It was so quiet even the sound of a pin dropping might be deafening. In fact, it was so quiet that it felt as though Spencer could've read your mind if he tried hard enough. If he could read you mind, he would unfortunately be privy to your annoying inner monologue screaming:

"How could I be so stupid? I've managed to trap us in a tiny, cramped closet that's barely 9 square feet. How on earth did this even happen?"

Or something along those lines.

You had been investigating a crime scene, and somehow, you both ended up crammed into this confined space—so close that you could feel his surprisingly soft, springy hair, which had grown to shoulder length, brushing against your forehead. The closeness was almost suffocating, and you could hear his breathing, which only heightened your awareness of your predicament.

You find yourself in an incredibly awkward position, pressed against his chest, with your arms pinned at your sides as if you're afraid to make a move. Any lower and you risk an EEO report, but any higher and you'll be holding on to his chest, which somehow felt even more intimate.

"Do you think they're close?" you whispered, not knowing why you felt the need to lower your voice.

It almost seemed rude to speak at a normal volume, as if it would be too intrusive. After all, you'd practically be yelling right in his ear.

"Well, we called them 8 minutes ago," Spencer said, his voice vibrating from his chest to yours. "If they took the normal route, they should be here in approximately 3 minutes and 45 seconds.  The average response time for our team in this area is about 12 minutes, but given the urgency, they might be a bit slower."

His hand moved to rest on your hip, and your body immediately went rigid. A jolt of electricity shot from your toes to your spine.

He sensed the tenseness in you because, well, of course he did. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, yeah," you breathed out, straining your eyes in the darkness to discern the details of his face. "Just a little claustrophobic."

That was only half true. It was more that you felt claustrophobic because you had no desire to be this close to the colleague you had been harboring an infatuation with for what felt like forever. He was intoxicating--everything about him. Especially now that you could feel his muscles flex beneath his shirt and breathe in the blend of old books and clean linen that seemed to define him.

Spencer nodded at your words, the movement of his head causing his entire body to shift. This brought him even closer, his arm instinctively wrapping around your back.

"Sorry, my arm was falling asleep," he justified, voice soft. You didn't argue, sparks detonating from the point of contact, your whole body aflame. "You know, sometimes applying gentle pressure can help reduce feelings of claustrophobia. It might seem counterintuitive, but it works."

"Well, I don't think we can get much closer than this," you chuckled nervously.

Spencer, without missing a beat, placed his hand gently around your neck and drew you into his chest. You didn't resist, didn't put up a fight. Your heart pounded, and with your ear now pressed against his body, you could heart his heart. The steady thumps were so clear, you could almost hear the blood coursing through its veins.

You softened into his touch, your hands moving slowly to wrap around his neck, unable to draw away from the continuous pulsing of his central organ. You were sick in the head, that was for sure, but the rest of your body didn't seem to care about your head's woes; it was all too keen to liquefy into his body.

You could likely die here—if the team never got here, and this is how you were to go—locked in a child's closet with the man of your dreams; you thought you might be okay with that.

But fate had different plans, which might have been a good thing; you might have been thinking a little rashly. You blamed it on the lack of oxygen flow. Spencer would tell you that the limited airflow in such small spaces means we're breathing in more carbon dioxide than usual, which can affect cognitive functions and make us feel dizzy and disoriented.

Dizzy and disoriented. Check and check. Now, whether that was due to the lack of airflow was a different story.

Without warning, Spencer's hand moved from your hip to your neck, settling between the nook where your jaw meets your throat. You froze in the spot, lips parted slightly as you watched his mouth move. Was he counting?

You realized he was when he let out a disappointed huff. His hand didn't move from your neck.

"Your heart rate is still pretty high," he observed. "Maybe we should try something else—"

"No, no, it's okay. I think it's working."

You didn't want to lose this closeness, and you weren't too eager for him to find out your heart rate was spiked by something other than the small space you were restricted to.

He hummed in response. You weren't sure if he believed you or not, but he dragged his hand back to your hip.

Thump, thump, thump.

You thought maybe you should tell him how you feel, that perhaps now was a better time than any—that the way your body froze around him was anything but friendly and that the feeling in your—

"Well, it looks like you two managed to stay calm."

Your head snapped up to see the team standing there, gaping at you like you were a couple of zoo animals. If they had given you 5 to 10 more minutes alone, you might have been.

You jumped away immediately, face burning as you raked a hand through your hair, glaring holes into Morgan's skull. On the other hand, Spencer looked slightly smug, a small smile tugging at his perfect lips.

"We were just... waiting," you protested, ignoring the look of disbelief from your unit chief.

Morgan chuckled, shaking his head. "Sure, whatever you say, hot stuff."

As you stepped out of the closet, your eyes lingered back to Spencer, your heart still racing. Your eyes met, and the world seemed to freeze for a moment. Maybe you'd tell him how you felt the next time.

"So, pretty boy, you think you'd be that snug with me if we were the ones trapped in there?"

3 YEARS LATER.

Atsumu is absolutely hyped. 

He’s finally here, the real big stage. The Olympics. 

Never in a million years would he have thought that he’d get here alongside many other amazing volleyball players. He’s snapped out of his thoughts when he hears his name being announced, leaving from under the stadium seats to run out to the main courts, allowing himself to flourish in the loud cheers. 

Atsumu was on his A-Game, he didn’t care who he’d have to go against, he was determined to win. 

The rest of his team came out shortly after Atsumu, the group of them huddled up near the coaches as the other team was loudly called out. The first match they had was against the U.S, and something about that sounded familiar, though he didn’t bother to think too much into it. He squinted as he listened to his coach yap about doing good out there and not let them get under their skins.

After the other team is lined up, the Japan team is lined up in front of them. There’s some commencement announcements that are being played on the speaker, allowing Atsumu some time to enter the zone. 

When the whistle blows, everyone takes their positions. Atsumu is ready. 

The match starts with the sound of a buzzer. And everyone is on the move. 

The U.S’ team was definitely a challenge for Japan’s, but after the rigorous training they’ve been put through, the win was more than easy to steal, the match ending at the 4th set with Japan named the winners.

Everyone cheered as they celebrated their victory in the main court. As Atsumu’s eyes scanned through the U.S’ team, his eye was caught on a woman who stood by the coaches.

His gaze went right past her at first until he backtracked and looked again, this time more intently. 

The adrenaline running through his body stopped almost entirely as he froze in place.

It couldn’t be, could it?

It’s hard to celebrate along with the rest of the team when his heart and his mind caught on to you. 

After going to multiple therapy sessions, he’d finally found it in him to let you go. From his mind at least, not so much his heart. 

But it felt like all the progress he was so proud of himself for making just washed down the drain. Just at the mere sight of you. Did you see him? Were you proud of him even though you were on the opposite side of the court? Were you involved with any of those men on that team? How have you been? You cut your hair? Seeing you let the many thoughts that he thought he had locked away loose. Though, he wasn’t sure if he was so mad at the occurrence.

Perhaps it was fate’s cruel way of reminding him that his past never really goes away. But even so, he knows better than to go out of his way to find you. The last time he talked to you was a hard time in his life, and you made it more than clear that you wanted nothing to do with him.

“You coming, Miya?” his teammate, Sakusa Kiyoomi, called out to him. The two had been chosen from the MSBY team together, alongside Hinata and Bokuto. 

“What, where?” Atsumu replies, a confused look on his face as his eyes meet Sakusa’s.

“The guys wanted to go to the Olympic Conference party, it’s at the facility down the street,” Sakusa is applying hand sanitizer to his hands as he continues, “Participants in the Olympics are all invited, but you don’t have to if you’re tired,”

Atsumu gets up, stretching his limbs out before finally deciding on going. “Sure, I wouldn’t mind getting some fresh air,”

The two of them join the others as they make their way into the shuttle that’d take them to the Olympic Conference. 

The place is bigger than it looks on the outside. He sees people from the swimming events and even the ice-skating events. The amount of people nearly overwhelms him, which is surprising for Atsumu Miya since he usually enjoys parties. He wasn’t quite sure where to go so he opted to follow Sakusa around, joining him in getting a drink by the bar.

“Be sure not to drink too much,” Sakusa turns to the other man as they both down the drinks they were given. Atsumu gives him a funny look, “I’m serious, we still have matches to play,”

“Obviously, I’m not stupid,” Atsumu rolls his eyes, “Just needed something to take the edge off, y’know?”

Sakusa raises his eyebrows in turn before gesturing to Atsumu that he was gonna go. “Oh, I’ll follow,” Atsumu replies.

“You sure?” Sakusa looks back at him.

Atsumu confused, an eyebrow raising in response, “What? Yeah, I don’t have anywhere else to go, Shoyo and Kou already went their own ways,”

“Ookay, then,”

Atsumu is surprised as he follows Sakusa through the crowd. He wonders where they’re going as they leave the big crowd and make their way to the smaller party rooms. 

“Kiyoomi!” a voice calls, and it causes him to freeze in his steps.

The other man walks a bit further up, leaving Atsumu behind. Atsumu watches as a smaller figure embraces Sakusa in a hug. 

“It’s been a while, Y/N,” 

The sound of your name was almost foreign. Genuinely, it feels like he hasn’t heard that name in a millenia. He isn’t sure if he should go or keep standing there like an idiot, but fate chooses for him as you let go of the black-haired man and catch a glimpse of Atsumu behind him.

This is what Sakusa was talking about.

“Oh,” falls from your lips, “Atsumu? Is that you?”

He feels almost faint at the sound of his name coming from your mouth, your voice. His response comes out on his own.

“Y-Yeah, it’s been a while, huh?” He curses himself for the tenseness of his words. 

You give him a smile, saying something to Sakusa that he can’t quite interpret before you walk closer to him. Were you coming up to him or walking past him? His mind turns to goo as you’re a breath away. 

“Did you want to come outside with me? It’s a little hot,”

It wasn’t that hot, it was actually somewhat cold, but Atsumu nodded and followed your lead. He doesn’t want to say too much, he’s scared. He’s scared if he were to say the wrong thing, he’d wake up from this dream.

Atsumu’s getting deja vu as you lead him through the big crowd and through the double doors. 

The two of you stand beside each other, letting the cool air blow past. It’s silent aside from the cars that drive by, and the distant music coming from inside. 

Atsumu is getting anxious with every passing second, he can’t stop himself from speaking. 

“How have you been?” He's thankful the words that escape are normal and not created off the impulsive thoughts he had earlier. 

He hears you take a deep breath before you respond, “I’ve been good, like actually. It’s really nice in California,”

You sound genuine and it makes him a little less tense.

“At first it was hard, since I only understood a bit of English, but I guess Duolingo really helps you out,” you laugh, “But I’ve met so many people, a lot of celebrities especially since they come to the games sometimes,”

“That’s good, Y/N,” Atsumu gives. He’s not sure what else to say. 

There’s a hesitant look in your eyes, “How… how have you been?”

“I’ve been good, too. My brother recommended me to his therapist so I did that for a while,” your eyes widened in surprise at that. 

“That’s good, Atsumu,”

He nods, “Yeah. Other than that, it’s been the same old, just playing volleyball,”

The two of you sit in another round of silence.

He’s surprised when you’re the one who brings up the subject he’s been dying to know.

“Have you been seeing anyone else?” your eyes find a place in the opposite direction of him.

“No, not at all. Not since, well, you know,” he beats himself up mentally for the way he worded that. Was that necessary? “And you?”

“Nope, I’ve been too busy, but I’d be lying if I said I’ve been celibate while here,” you let out a breathy laugh. “Party culture is huge in California,”

Your words prick a little at Atsumu’s heart, but who was he to judge?

“That’s cool,” a faux laugh escapes his mouth.

“I’m sorry,” your words caught him off guard, “I can’t lie to you, I have your name blocked on everything, so I didn’t know you were on the Japan National Team, but I’m proud of you,”

“It was definitely a shock to see your face from across the court,” you continue. “I hate to bring up the past, but I’m sorry for how harsh I was that night,”

“It’s fine, it was my fault,” Atsumu smiles down at you.

“Time away allowed me to really get in tune with my emotions and thoughts, and I finally think I was able to really forgive you. I mean not that it matters, I just think seeing you made me feel nostalgic,”

He laughs, “No, I get it. I feel similar,”

“To be honest, I wasn’t planning on seeing or talking to you at all during my time here. I was hoping we just wouldn’t cross paths, but I’m glad we did talk. Genuinely,”

“Same, Y/N. I’ve been thinking about you since I saw you on the court, and it was really scary considering I haven’t thought about you that much since years ago. But talking to you really helped, and I think maybe I finally got the closure my therapist was talking about,”

You share a small smile, “That’s good,”

The wind blows a bit harsher, the passage of time didn’t really click with Atsumu until now.

“You want to head inside?” he holds an arm out, which you hook onto.

“Sure,”

The rest of the Japan team are huddled in their own little group when the two of you approach them. Shot glasses are shoved into your hands before you can rebuttal. 

“I really shouldn’t–” Atsumu pushes. 

“Just do it, Tsum-Tsum,” Bokuto smiles.

Cheers, echoes through the air as the lot of you raise your glasses and down the hard liquor.

“I’m gonna find a seat just in case I collapse,” you whisper into his ear. He chuckles to himself when he remembers how much of a lightweight you are.

“I’ll come with,”

He’s surprised how quick you are to start yapping. Laughing as you go on and on about your ventures in California. It’s interesting though. The states made you glow and have definitely changed your demeanor. 

“I miss home, though,” you whine, “But I’m glad I’m coming home soon,”

Your words cause a brow of his to rise, “Soon?”

“Did Omi not tell you?” you mumble, there’s a confused-worried look on your face, “I’m coming back to Japan after the Olympics,”

“What?”

Your eyes widen, “W-Why? Should I not?”

“NO- I mean no, that’s great news,”

He can see you visibly settle down at his words. The two of your bodies melt into the couch as the time passes. He’s looking around, watching the other party goers have their own fun. Your breath falls into harmony with his own. 

The news you just dropped on him was definitely a shocker. He wasn’t quite sure how to process it.

Would you be coming back to MSBY? Probably not, huh? Maybe a nearby team? Maybe he should stop getting ahead of himself. He looks down at you, your eyes are dozing off. 

“Atsumu,” your voice is small as it calls out for him.

“Yeah?”

-i always imagine you meet Rick through Beth somehow. In my head, it's usually though an exercise class of sorts (Zumba, bc my first R+M hyperfixation was when I was doing dance twice a week LOL), but I also really like the neighbors approach too (typical) because i think it's fun to think she starts inviting you over to have wine nights with her and you become really good friends!!

-I also love HCing Morty bonding with you too!! Seeing the way you make his mom happy and pique Rick's interest in just the right way makes him literally. Want. to befriend you. He thinks you're cool and also genuinely NICE ASF which lowkey pisses Rick off for a bit but makes him all the more inclined to like, actually talk to you (bc he's jealous you won over Morty so easily<3)

-Rick definitely goes (a little) out of his way to impress you (eventually). not... overboard, because he's still Rick and his literal brand is not caring ofc, but... i do think he enjoys it, per se, esp season 5+ Rick who's a lot more considerate... when you seem interested in what he's doing and actually want to talk about it. Part of him is def still skeptical, but... it grows on him the closer you get emotionally ...

-Rick is surprisingly appreciative of acts of service!! Esp. things like cooking him food / doing laundry, and even more so if who you're helping is Beth, Morty or Summer!! -I LOVE RICK'S LITTLE COT in his room. it is so silly to me that he sleeps on that in HIS fucking DAY CLOTHES. So I think he gets all weird abt spending the night at your place. Maybe weird is the wrong word, but like. usually he's down to fuck and then just go home (or spend the night but not care abt the emotional significance of it and skip your morning together) and it's like. which I think for a while you're kinda cool w/ because... idk. It's not that serious? but the first time you actually have a real sleepover in your own space (and not an alien motel or his car) is genuinely so. intimate. and signifies and big change

unmasking: reasons

⇴ as a way to build trust

⇴ as a way to build comradery

⇴ because they're all spidermen/spiderwomen/spiderpeople, so there's no reason to keep a secret identity in the first place

⇴ unmasking as a big plotpoint (could be the oc's climax or a way to build relationships between other characters)

unmasking yourself is personal in any circumstance. for example, even though all the spiderpeople in ATSV are seen unmasked, those people are only unmasked around the other spiderpeople, not around the people in their own universe.

when your oc is unmasking, make it a big plot point. how important is their secret identity? are they scared of unmasking after fighting the villain? what are the stakes at hand here?

unmasking: dialogue

since your oc is very pretty, think to yourself of how you would react when seeing a very beautiful person.

⇴ think of how you would respond, and then try to apply it to the other characters. of course, make sure it's not out of character.

if whatever you're thinking is not in line with what one of the characters would think, then don't include it (even if it's for the sake of storytelling).

⇴ when describing how characters are reacting, sometimes (instead of dialogue) using physical characteristics are better.

for example

"you're gorgeous!" person b gasps

person b gapes at person a for a few seconds. their eyes seem like they're bulging out of their head, and suddenly their mouth feels a lot drier than usual. a gulp escapes person b's mouth before saying, "you're gorgeous!"

doesn't that add a lot more? of course, write however you'd like, but if you really want to emphasize a character's beauty, try using physical reactions as well.

if you kiss him he’ll stop anything that he’s doing and stands/sits there for at least two minutes before his ears turn red and his cheeks slightly turn red as well

there was absolute silence, not a single movement from your boyfriend who you decided to kiss on the cheek/lips for the first time as a sweet reminder of how much you loved him. you grew to become a bit worried and poked his shoulders. "SUNNY?? SUNNY, are you okay??" you asked your stoic boyfriend. after a minute of poking him, you saw his ears turn a bit redder then usual and then his cheeks. you smiled a bit, knowing your boyfriend enjoyed the little kiss you gave him

she immediately look at you in disbelief before slightly smirking and letting out a chuckle. she secretly enjoys being hugged, especially when she’s feeling down the most. she also touch starved without realizing it from not receiving any attention from her mom and due to MARI’s passing

if you give her a kiss she’ll immediately panic a bit and look at you with an even more expression of disbelief like "WHY did u decide to kiss me?!" but she’ll think back to it when she’s alone and not even realize her cheeks are turning red from the feeling and thought of the little kiss

AUBREY’s cheeks grew flustered when you decided to kiss her on the cheek/lips, she looks at you in shock and a bit frustrated. "wh- what was that for..?!" AUBREY asked as you stifled a giggle out. "i just wanted to show my girlfriend how much i love her!" you responded, smiling a bit at her. "pfft— whatever.. at least let me know next time, you dork.." AUBREY looked away as she didn’t want you to see how red she was.

he’ll surprisingly give you affection more than you, and even be ECSTATIC when you give some back! he enjoys it no matter what and he’ll definitely need it when he has a bad day of some sorts

if you decide to kiss him, KEL would slowly process that you kissed him and once he does he gets even more ECSTATIC! he’ll gladly kiss you back with his dorky smile across his slightly red cheek

"woah!" KEL raised his voice a bit after he saw you give him a quick kiss on the cheek/lips for being such a good boyfriend. "you… you kissed me?" KEL said, kind of processing it which made you laugh a bit. "yes, yes i kissed you, KEL." you answered, and KEL finally processed it with a huge smile on his face. "you kissed me! you really did kiss me, [READER]! wow, i’m so happy!" KEL gave you a tight hug and plants a bunch of kisses across your face as his own reward for being such an awesome person to love him!

like the others, KEL does not mind at all if you’re super attached to others including him. that’s what makes you.. you! he won’t change it for the world

in a way, he’s sort of like that too! he understands where you’re coming from and even is a bit bashful is you’re already attached to him!

if you’re already attached to someone else that isn’t him, he won’t even consider himself jealous! he’ll instantly befriend the person as well!

HERO

HERO absolutely enjoys the amount of affection you give him! sure, he’ll be a bit awkward and nervous about it at first but he’ll always enjoy the amount of affection you give him!

he’ll always do something for you in return. you needed to get some chores? HERO has already done them for you! are you hungry for a home cooked meal? HERO has already something cooking just for you!

if you decide to kiss him, HERO will instantly flustered but will give you his own charming kiss back as a little thank you

HERO looked at you with his eyes slightly widened after you decided to give him a kiss on the cheek/lips. he immediately turns into a slightly blushing mess and laughs nervously, "gosh [READER]! at least let me know when you’ll kiss me, haha!" HERO half-joked, looking away to hide his red face. "sorry, sorry! i just wanted to let you know how much i love all that you’re doing for me!" you explained your excuse, to which HERO looked back at you with the same surprised look before smiling warmly. "…thank you, [READER], i appreciate that you’re still with me."

HERO is genuinely a bit surprised how attached you are with people, but doesn’t judge you for it. that’s who you are and he doesn’t want to change you at all because he loves you!

he does know that there are actual jerks out there who’s take advantage of how nice people are, so he wants you to be extra careful!

if you’re already attached to someone else that isn’t him, HERO would love to meet them! he starts up a conversation with them, and just to make sure, let’s them know he’s your boyfriend

BASIL

BASIL is another touch starved one, and it’s pretty obvious. like AUBREY, he’d panic and be all flustered when you give him physical affection

he tries to calm himself down and slowly get used to all the love he gets from you, but he can’t help it! he appreciates all the attention and affection he gets from you but sometimes he gets overwhelmed easily, so make sure you start with him slowly

if you decide to kiss him, BASIL will immediately become all flustered and nervous. he’d excuse himself to the bathroom for a bit and once he does, he immediately tries to calm himself down. he can’t help but smile a tiny bit and cover his face in embarrassment

BASIL let’s out a tiny squeak as you one day decided to give him a kiss on the cheek/lips for how much he’s come so far. his face immediately turns all red and looks at you with a stunned look that said 'did you really just did that..?' you stifled out a tiny laugh and spoke, "sorry, sorry! i’m just really proud of you BASIL for how much you’ve come so far! i guess that was a bit too much for you, so i apologize..!" after you explained yourself, BASIL simply nodded and asked with such a meek and nervous tone, "sorry.. could you excuse me for a bit?" and immediately heads to the bathroom and locks himself in there. he couldn’t stop smiling and blushing for minutes!

BASIL is also surprised when he finds out you’re attached to people quite easily. he used to be somewhat the same four years ago and so he doesn’t judge you for it

although he’s closed off a bit now, he does secretly want to be your number one and never wants you to leave him for someone else

if you’re attached to someone else that isn’t him, BASIL will panic a tiny bit on the inside as he sweats more on the outside. he tries to reassure himself that you love him, so make sure his reassurance is correct!

MARI

MARI absolutely enjoys all of your affection! she’s pretty affectionate herself, so expect a lot of hugs and kisses on the forehead

she also uses words of affirmation as one of her love languages, so expect a lot of compliments and flirting coming from her!

if you decide to kiss her, she’ll blush a bit before smugly looking at you. she definitely tease you a bit just for fun before kissing you as well!

"oh my!" MARI had a bit of a surprised look on her face as she looks at what you did. you decided to give her a kiss on the cheek/lips for being the best girlfriend ever!! you stifled a laugh at her response but immediately recognize the smug look on her face and realized what you put yourself through. so i use picsart usually for my headers. (it’s free) ur gonna wanna open that up — then go to your camera roll and click wtv header you want to edit

once you do that, it’ll show options like these. click to where it says 'fix' or 'effects'

scroll to where u see colors -> pick color gradient

this is optional sorta. colorize works well also but personally, i use color gradient :3

on the second, i think it’ll automatically change the color for you.

you can easily change it by the displaying color 1 & 2 it shows on the left slide. choose wtv colors you want -> i chose blue n pink.

after that (if u want) u can make the saturation a bit higher like i did, this only makes it appear brighter

after that, press apply near the top right and go back to the options at the top -> find where it says blur. (it’s next to ai & colours)

you can copy by settings if you’d like. when you’re in blur, make sure you scroll to where it says "lighten" — feel free to play with the blur n fade settings !! i like having a lil blur effect bc why not hehe

"It -" Maitimo said. He stopped. "I…" Stopped again. In the face of Findekáno’s obvious upset he did not know what to say.

Findekáno’s face softened again. "I understand that it is - fraught," he said, "and that there is much grief bound up in it, and it may be difficult to talk about, but -"

Maitimo held up a hand - the closest he could come to interrupting Findekáno - and his cousin immediately stilled.

He said, "It is not that."

"Then - then what?" said Findekáno: frustrated again and trying to hide it. Maitimo was always too slow, now, slow to speak, to react, to move. He did not know how his family bore it.

But bear it they did, so he continued on.

"It is only that," Maitimo said, trying again, "that I thought you would be - be happy. Your father has wanted the crown for - many years. And you deserve - many crowns, and all honors, and my - my loyalty. Now you will have it. Without question."

Findekáno beside him was utterly still: so still that for a moment Maitimo thought perhaps it had all been a trick after all, and stilled himself. But then Findekáno turned to look at him. There was naked grief on his face.

"Maitimo," he said, "I have never wanted your - subservience. Nor did my father want the crown if it came at the cost of your father’s life. No matter what has happened between us since. I swear to you. I only want you to be happy." He hesitated. "And - you would be a good king, once you are recovered."

Will I recover? Maitimo wondered. But he did not say so. Instead he simply tilted forward, until his head hit Findekáno’s chest, and stayed there, and breathed in the scent of him. Ground beneath his feet, sky above his head.

Findekáno sighed, the movement of his shoulders rocking Maitimo, and gently began to card his hand through Maitimo’s curls.

"It is only," he continued, "I do not know if you are well enough for such a decision. I fear you will regret it. And I do not want you to give up what is rightfully yours out of some misplaced desire for…appeasement, I suppose, or…" he trailed off.

"What is mine is yours," said Maitimo, puzzled.

Findekáno’s fingers continued their gentle path through his hair. "And what is mine is yours, melmenya. But this is - this is what you have left of your father. He did great evil; but I yet grieve with thee for him. And you are not your father."

Maitimo did not want to think about his father.

He said, "Your father will be the better king."

"You cannot know that," Findekáno said softly.

"I do," said Maitimo. "Your father is the son of Finwë; I am the son of Fëanáro. That is how I know."

Findekáno sighed. But he did not say anything else. Instead he simply sat, and breathed, and let Maitimo sit in stillness until the healers came again.

hiiiiiii! nh question: when does nh james realize he’s bi? cuz ive been thinking abt it for DAYS seriously i can’t stop. like he is super in denial in pt 3 and doesn’t even seem to think about how Not Straight that kiss was (reg in his lap, wanting to take it further, kissing him in a way he never kissed emma….) but does he realize before his first time w reg or does it like. Take Him A While after they’re hooking up to realize bc he is SO oblivious? does someone else have to literally Tell Him “hey it’s Not Straight to fuck your best friend who is a man so maybe ur bi” and is he just like “no? reg isn’t just a ‘man’ he’s ‘my best friend’ so the rules don’t apply here cuz we have a super normal super platonically sexual relationship that has nothing to do with my sexuality actually i like WOMEN and REGULUS and that is Heterosexual still” like he is my roman empire (i love him sm) i cannot get over how ridiculous he is for not realizing he is in LOVE!

it takes him a little, and even when he's sort of aware of the fact, he's still a bit in denial.. like, in part 4 he mentions he's fooled around with boys before as in . he's never had actual sex with a boy but he's made out with guys before, done a bit more than that too. but he never mentions liking one or being anything other than straight. he thinks he's experimenting, exploring his sexuality a little, and that it's normal and there's no harm in it, but he doesn't think there's more to it. women are very hot but men can be very hot too and james kinda assumes that's like . an universal experience

but no, during part 3 and the whole emma thing he believes that making out with regulus is platonic and the only other boy he's kissed so far is remus, so i feel like he didn't have any doubts about his sexuality back then

he does realise at some point, once he and reg have begun to hook up, but again, it's more of a quiet realisation?? something he knows in the back of his mind but never really says out loud?? or acknowledges it?? not for a while. nh james has a bit of internalised homophobia tbh. it's not too bad and it's not like . a plot point or a theme but it is there and he doesn't embrace his sexuality completely until he realises his feelings for regulus. it probably 'helps' that he never likes another boy apart from reg, he's attracted to other men and even has crushes but it's never . strong enough to force him to acknowledge it yk??
