I think about this a lot, we know that those operatives were brainwashed with suppressed criminal impulses and sent back to wherever they came from after getting caught, but unlike carm and gray who recovered their memories these 6 didn't, which means that they are still out there living their life as a completely different person for years at this point, and that's so sad, they've been living a lie for years, they could have families now, children, long time friends something they got from being someone else. Also gray wasn't a VILE operative for long, a bit over a year but a few of these have to have been there for wayy longer, so they just lost their memories of a few years, they've been living with a gaping hole of their life missing. That's just sad to think about.

And I am so writing a fic about it.

look i know that the atla fandom clearly has One Specific View of their blorbos and any way they change from that is considered OOC but. i do not think Katara being less invested in fighting at 80+ years old is particularly shocking or that much of a disservice to her character actually.

Toph and Zuko are Beats People Up Georgs and are outliers and should never have been counted as the norm for what the gaang would be up to. (<- and even Toph says in season 4 "sometimes you gotta leave it to the kids.")

And in Katara's case, Katara was never against healing from a "it's too feminine" standpoint, she didn't appreciate being treated like that's all she was good for, which is a very distinct standpoint and has to do with her own sovereignty and ability to choose. Katara is also a character who feels very deeply about community and helping people in any way she can. She didn't ONLY fight as a teenager, she used her healing multiple times to help people, such as when she disguised herself as the Painted Lady. It's not OOC for her to recognize as she ages that she may have less ability to fight and chooses to focus on honing her healing skills.

Also being forced to take up fighting from a young age like the Gaang did because you feel like that's the only way you can help is not across-the-board empowering. It's also a tragedy, and it's important to consider that involved in Katara's decision to fight was that she was the last Southern Waterbender, and the Fire Nation was threatening to destroy her entire culture. Without all of that pressure placed on her, with safety and a community and rebuilding her tribe, it makes SENSE that Katara wouldn't want to dedicate her entire life to fighting.

pascal: knows conspiracy theories and this one is bullshit. or maybe it just doesn't interest him as much as aliens and that's why he thinks that
