This is the first time they meet each other and they immediately knock heads. Jon’s lighter than life personality clashes with Damian’s cold personality and they don’t seem to get along but you can tell there’s something growing behind the eye rolling and tongue clicking… a friendship?

• Superman (2016) Issue #20, #21, #25, #26 (mentioned), and #43.

• Super Sons (2017)

This is the first of the Super Sons series, the series is really short but gold nonetheless. No Super Sons comic that I don’t like but this one is my favorite. They still are knocking heads and refuse to call each other partners but they grow and learn to be heroes together.

• Adventures of the Super Sons (2018)

They slowly start to get used to each other and this comic shows that Damian isn’t just straight up mean but is starting to somewhat ‘like’ Jon.

• Challenge of the Super Sons (2020)

The last main Super Sons comics. This one is fine but I love the others so much. These comics are essential to know Jon and Damian period, it’s the main comics of each others story and in a way they are important to each others development.

• Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons (2022)

Now after all that reading treat yourself to a movie because Jon and Damian got their own movie. This is what started Jon and Damian for a lot of people and this is probably where a lot of you are from. This movie is great and fun. They made Damian wayyy nicer than in the comics and their friendship easier.

Please find and read this. It’s so cute. I love it so much.

• Dark Nights: Metal issue #3 (2017 -2018)

They make a rock band in the beginning, its so cute.

This is such a good series, and story in general please read it. DC peaked with this one and its so angsty. I don’t care what comphet was happening, Jon was there for Damian like no one else. I think Damian ends up with Cassie which is weird to me because Damian has never shown interest in anyone before but I excuse it since it’s not really gonna happen again since they were in a relationship just for the story to be more high stakes and sad. Jon and Damian’s relationship was at the forefront and for comic book readers DCeased made people see the potential in Jondami.

• DC’s Terror Through Time (2022)

This is so cute, please read this. It’s a halloween special and they switch uniforms <3!!

• DC Saved by the Belle Reve (2022)

They help a nonbinary person navigate school and it’s so damn cute.

• The age up incident.

(Disclaimer: You can pretend this never happens and I wouldn’t blame you for doing that.) A writer named Brain Micheal Bendis comes into the writers room for DC and ages up Jon in short. The story is that Superman goes missing (He travels to War World and gets stuck there) and Jor-El comes back to meet Jon and he takes him on a trip to explore space, then they get trapped in a wormhole, Jon gets stuck on Earth-3 and has to fight Ultraman. He’s stuck in a volcano for five or six years and becomes seventeen (we think) when he comes back. This was sad to me because it took away all the potential interactions for Jon and our ability to see him grow up, it was rushed and purposely so. Jon takes up the title of Superman somehow and starts to date some guy named “Jay Nakamura.”

• Superman: Son of Kal-El (2021) Issues: #1, #6, #14, and #15.

He does get a boyfriend here and I think it’s amazing the fact he simply gets a boyfriend but no one really likes his bf so… and the are real reasons why Jay as a character is problematic BUT if you just don't want to see him with someone else than every time you see a pink haired twink, quickly skip.

• Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent

• Super Sons (2017) Special

This is them reuniting after the age up and it shows how Damian reacts to it. I can’t actually find this and if anyone can please let me know where it is. I can only find bits and pieces of it scattered across the internet. All you need to know is that he doesn’t like the age up anymore than us since he says “I miss my friend.” which is really sad to me because the age up ultimately really hurts what people like about their dynamic as well as tarnish Jon’s character almost completely.

I’d say they aren’t exactly written right, well over all they are but their personalities are more relaxed and they care about each other a lot and will go out of their way to make sure the other is okay and protect them from danger, make them laugh etc, theres nothing wrong with this, its really cute but you can tell its not the typical jon and damian writers is all. I like it.

Look, I'm obviously gonna pick Larissa first because I have made some genuine friends through the Larissa/Gwendoline fandom and that means she is my #1 baby girl/Menace Principal.

2. Moiraine Damodred - The Wheel of Time (2021)

It was hard to decide between Moiraine and Siuan, honestly, but Moiraine won out just because we get so much more screen time with her. She was the reason I came back to tumblr in the first place and I have such a lovely and supportive discord community thanks to her/the show. Her dedication to the mission about all else just gets me so 🫠

3. Aloy - Horizon Zero Dawn (2017)/Horizon Forbidden West (2022)

Aloy best girl 😍😍😍 I think the Horizon series might be my favourite games of all time. They are so much fun to play, the story is so interesting and Aloy is a great protagonist. She is strong, independent and doesn't bother trying to fit in. She does her own thing and I really respect that.

4. Xena - Xena Warrior Princess (1995)

Xena was so special to me as a little baby gay. The thirst I experienced was unbelievable but because her relationship with Gabrielle was (barely) subtext, it was safe for me to watch in a conservative rural environment.

5. Utena Tenjou - Revolutionary Girl Utena (1997)

This prince saves herself! Utena is iconic and this anime is one of the first shows that ever got me thinking about gender roles and patriarchy. Utena doesn't always get it right but she does try her best to help her friends.

6. Astarion - Baldur's Gate 3 (2023)

Look, I just love him. I would let him devour me with no regrets. I'm still in Act 1 of the game and he has absolutely seduced me with his charm.

7. Nadja of Antipaxos - What We Do In The Shadows (2019)

I cannot get enough of Nadja. The perfect all-powerful absolute idiot. Her own worst enemy. My beloved girlfail queen 👑.

8. The Captain - Ghosts (2019)

I love the Captain so very much. He's from an era when he literally would have been imprisoned for being open about his sexuality so he's so repressed and uptight but we see these little glimpses that are just wonderful and he's played with such care.

9. Kassandra - Assassin's Creed Odyssey (2018)

I still can't believe there are people out there who choose to play as Alexios when Kassandra is right there! She's amazing, such a badass and I never want to play another AC game because no other protagonist will ever be as good as her (also Ubisoft is evil).

10. Tissaia de Vries - The Witcher (2019)

Look, I just obviously have a thing for teachers who are a bit mean. Sorry not sorry to be a stereotype!

How I designed a new cover for my webcomic's Book 1 reprint

The cover. It's the first impression anyone has of your comic book, so it's got to make an impact. Which is why I'm really proud of the new cover of Heroes of Thantopolis Book 1.

Who are these characters? What kinds of fun and colorful adventures do they get up to? That's what I hope people think when they see the book when it debuts at Cartoon Crossroads Columbus.

But the journey to get to this cover was full of trial and error. Today I want to share that journey and what I learned along the way. Let's go!

The original print cover of Book 1

I self-published the original print of HoT Book 1 in 2016. This was before I joined @hiveworks, and I was using an on-demand printer not really known for their comics, so everything - including the InDesign template I placed the pages in - was done from scratch.

Here's what the cover for the original print looked like:

Helene and Cyrus are front and center amidst tapestries depicting the four chapters of the comic. It's not a bad illustration - not in the slightest! And the comic sold very well at TCAF 2017. But I think you can tell it's an amateur effort. I may have completed four chapters of my comic, but I didn't have comparable experience designing books.

Brainstorming for the reprint

I joined Hiveworks in 2018. Hiveworks has a lot of experience independently publishing webcomics. I planned to re-print Book 1 as well as print the first editions of the rest of the comic under their banner.

I had a good idea of the bonus content I wanted to include in the reprint. I had less of an idea of what I wanted the cover to look like. My first sketches were very movie poster-esque:

All of the main characters are here, with the villain ominously looming over everyone. It felt like an upgrade from the original cover. But... it felt generic, too. It didn't capture what was unique about my comic.

I put preparations for the reprint to the side for a while, until...

Inspiration

I love the opening of the Netflix cartoon Hilda. I love the music, the fluid animation and the super cool transitions between her adventures. Hilda goes from riding a dragon to dodging viking warriors, running through the locations and characters she meets during the season. It really captures the vibe of the show!

That's when it occurred to me what was missing from my cover. Readers of Heroes of Thantopolis will know that every chapter has a different color palette, giving them each a unique feel. A unified illustration wouldn't show the diversity of color or feelings. But a cover made of flowing segments, like the Hilda opening...

Now I felt like I was really getting somewhere!

Working with my editor Isa (@secondlina), I continued to refine the design of the comic. I wasn't sure what to put in the top left. Isa suggested creating a special version of the logo that flowed along the border created by the Sag segment.

From there, the final cover began to take shape.

Until we got to the final cover that appears on the actual book!

(Print colors are never as vibrant at RGB, but it still captures that colorful vibe.)

Conclusion

If there's one lesson in my creative life that I've seen play out over and over again, it's that your first idea may not be the best idea. Iteration and reflection improves the end result. I'm not saying you need to waffle over every decision. But rather, tp let your creative juices marinade your idea, rather than immediately put the concept to the fire.

I also couldn't have done this without help from people more knowledgeable than I on book design. Not every webcomic creator has access to print experts, true, but there are communities of webcomic creators out there that pool resources and share advice. We can always learn from other people. And that's why I made this post! I hope you enjoyed a peek into my creative process.

How did you get here

Like, other than the obvious, if you had to take your most comedic guess at how you got here, what would you say

i sold my soul to the devil so then i could have internet fame by writing sarge/fillmore fanfic. slash jay.

anyway, since i have a tendency to ramble, i’ll put a serious answer under the cut. i’m going to call this G’s Path to Accidental Internet Success.

1. i joined the fandom in 2016, when i was 14. as such, i bothered literally EVERYONE and tried to make as many friends as i could. i ended up with a pretty solid group of mutuals (most—if not all— of which are now deactivated. rip.) .

2. start asking for writing requests. the stuff i started out with was always in the 50-300 words ballpark (like drabbles). the main key here is to (a) have Exactly One Thing you write about (aka sargemore), and a handful of people that are willing to engage with you on that.

some cars fandom history for you: around this time (2018-ish), we had this anon “spam” (i hate to call them that, because we are now good friends) who would send many, many, many asks into my inbox about sarge and potatoes. i was able to turn some of their asks into legitimate oneshots, or take them a little farther than they likely expected. (see: wishes, as the sun sets, or anything else i posted in the summer of 2018). i guess what you can take away from this is that ANYTHING can be turned into writing if you are deranged enough.

it was also around this time that i bought the sargemore backstory comic off of ebay, and then spent an INCREDIBLE amount of time immersing myself in sixties history to write the third blink. i started posting that in june of 2019, and it went through the beginning of january of 2021 (covid fucked up my schedule). in that time, the fic gained a pretty decent following, a lot of whom usually still turns up for anything that i post on ao3.

so, number 3: if you put a lot of passion and time and effort into your work, people will notice! if you construct a good narrative arc for your characters, and do things that people aren’t expecting, they’ll stick around. a consistent posting schedule always helps too; think of it as tuning in to your favorite television show once a week, back in the old days of cable. i know i’m not one to talk about that (we all know i haven’t posted in like six months… yikes), but i’m telling you. it helps.

4. never shut the hell up about what you’re writing. i mean, seriously. you see the shit that i post about my AU. be obnoxious. have fun. start a discussion about your characters, or the narrative. in my case, i do this easily by creating a historical discussion through the use of sarge/fillmore as figures analogous to different political beliefs.

(actually. my ploy all along was to educate you guys. i can’t tell you how many comments i’ve gotten that are people saying “i wasn’t expecting to LEARN anything from a cars fanfic, but….”)

i think that’s all. i hate to say that a great deal of this is circumstantial, because i started in a height of the fandom in 2017, and the Potato Anon summer gave me a lot to work with, and i’ve been doing the same kind of thing for almost seven years now. but i think that you could still swing it. there’s enough people in the fandom that you could definitely attract the audience you want for your writing. i’ll be proud to be a part of it!

TLDR: have friends that want to engage with your writing, stay (mostly) consistent, and create a discussion about your “content.” and, most importantly— be passionate, be real, and HAVE FUN. none of this is worth it if you aren’t enjoying it.

Anon I’ve been hoping for this ask ever since I started seeing it go around, so I’m so excited, thank you.

I can’t choose one favorite, so I’m gonna share multiple and say what I like about them, with the rants as asked below the cut :)

Two Player Game: This song is really special to me for multiple reasons, the main one being it’s the first song from the musical I ever listened to. I heard this song by chance at a summer camp years ago (2016 or 2017) and then I tried to find it again and failed. Then, again, by chance, it autoplayed on my YouTube while I was listening to music doing homework in April of 2018, and I recognized it and listened to it until I knew the song. This is also my favorite for singing with other people and it’s so fun to sing along to.

A Guy That I’d Kinda Be Into: I’ve always been really attached to this song because it’s just so sweet and fun, I love it a lot. I love Christine and Jeremy’s chemistry- both platonic and romantic- and this song displays it so well, because already you can see Christine trusts Jeremy, enough that she’s telling him all about this. She likes him a lot, she likes being around him, and it’s so special. Also, this one is really satisfying to do karaoke of because I learned the timing for an audition, so I sing along to it a lot. Also also, Christine is just like me for real and she’s one of my dream roles, and I personally like this song more than ILPR.

Loser Geek Whatever: THIS SONG IS FUCKING EVERYTHING!!!!! Like the previous two there’s already the sing along value of it. But there’s also a point where I remember listening to this song for the first time. I remember downloading the single to my phone before the Broadway album was released. And man, this song Hit so right for me. Jeremy, in my opinion, definitely benefited this song. This is a big decision for him, going from Jeremy 1.0 to 2.0. It’s a big decision moving on from Michael. And Loser Geek Whatever is such a perfect song for that decision. We know everything going through Jeremy’s head, and it helps us, as the audience, to be more understanding of Jeremy’s choice to continue blocking out Michael. (If he even REALLY had a choice, but that’s getting off track.)

Halloween: I literally just think this song is fun. Specifically the Broadway version of the song, it gets me so pumped up every time I listen to it. I love the energy going into it, and it’s definitely up there for that reason. Plus, you gotta appreciate the choreo the actors learn in the stage version, it’s truly iconic.

Michael in the Bathroom: Full disclosure, Michael has always been my favorite character. It flips now between Michael and Christine, but even then, he’s up there. As I stated with Loser Geek Whatever, this song really benefits Michael as a character, because from what we as the audience have seen, it’s really out of character for him. Throughout the entire musical to this point, Michael is mostly a pretty upbeat and chill guy. We get times where he’s more anxious or insecure (“would you be too cool for… video games?”) and there’s other times where he’s kinda pissed off (“really? so you’re not the one who’s been avoiding me?”), but both of those examples are both quickly followed by his more chill attitude, and both feel different than this situation. Michael is angry in the bathroom scene, and then as soon as Jeremy leaves, he’s sad, and he’s trapped, and he’s scared. This is Michael’s darkest moment in the show (like a lot of characters tbh- Halloween was not a good time), and the fact that we as the audience get to see it? It’s really good for Michael’s character arc. Not to mention the song itself is SO FUN TO SING. This is a song where if I’m driving and I get distracted from singing along, I’ll start the song over so I can sing to all of it.

The Play: OOOOOOOUGH I LOVE THE CHAOS IN THIS ONE!!!! Seeing it on stage through bootlegs is so wonderful, I love how this song is staged, and it being the climax of the show. It s everything. But you don’t need the stage version for this song to be chaotic. I listen mostly to the Broadway version of bmc, and wow. They weren’t fucking around with this one. Jeremy gets to interact with nearly every cast member in this song, and every interaction is wild. In the Broadway version, we actually get to hear Jeremy and Michael’s fight, which in itself is everything to me. There’s the interaction with Chloe and Brooke (which is unsettling at best). There’s Christine!!! THERE’S “THAT’S NOT CHRISTINE AND I’M STRONGER THAN YOU THINK I AM” and then there’s screaming. So much screaming. The screaming in Two River is funnier in my opinion, it’s fucking hilarious, but the screaming is so good regardless, and the the SQUIP dying?????? Chefs kiss. I love the play.

So upon watching Radio (2003) and just being a general consumer of media, I think I’ve realized the problem a lot of media has with representations of autistic/neurodivergent people and characters. That being that the story rarely centers the neurodivergent character in question other than as an object of interest.

What do I mean by this? It sort of falls into the same trap a lot of white savior story lines fall into. High budget Hollywood, especially in the past, could hardly tell stories about racial struggles without having it told through a white perspective. Examples include the Help, the Blind Side, etc. Hell even in allegorical stories, such as Avatar or Atlantis, the allegorical POC rarely get to tell their own story. Of course the problem is that these stories are often framed in how they relate to the white person rather than the actual issues the POC characters are going through.

A lot of autistic media similarly has an allistic person looking at them from the outside, rather than getting a look inside their inner world. Radio (2003) follows this closely. Radio (the central autistic character) is not the pov character but a point of interest for the coach of a football team, who is the actual main character. Similar stories, even if sympathetic to the character, tend to define the character by how they differ from the allistic characters. Worse versions of these stories can instead focus on the burden or struggles of working/living with autistic people, with examples including Music (2021) and other stories. Even worse these characters tend to be very static while allistic characters have the character arc that is focused on.

Even stories that do make the autistic character the main character, such as the Good Doctor (2017), still tend to make their autistic character a spectacle and frequently focus on how other people react to them.

This isn’t even restricted to inaccurate representation of autistic people. A common criticism of the 2018 Shera reboot and Entrapta is how she is often framed by how difficult other characters find it to work with her. At the very least, Shera gives a look at Entrapta’s inner world.

And it isn’t impossible for this to be done well. Stories of autistic characters and their struggles need to be told. However, these stories can be told while also giving a look at the inner world of the autistic character in question instead of forever wonder what’s going on in their head. Stories of social/education struggles have been told for years and been able to properly show how the characters are affected internally. If Good Will Hunting is able to talk about educational, financial, and personal struggles while still giving a look at Will’s inner world, why can’t more autistic characters tell their own stories? ADHD and dyslexic characters are able to be the focus and have powerful arcs, so why not autistic characters?

Thankfully more stories are actually placing autistic characters (or at least very coded autistic characters with no official confirmation) as main players without being a spectacle. I adore Aaron in Mitchells vs the Machines for how he is able to both be autistic and have a character arc. Donnie in ROTTMNT is a dynamic and fun character with many different character arcs who happens to be autistic. His neurodivergence is a part of him but it is far from his only defining feature.

This isn’t even getting into the problem of autistic characters and people rarely being portrayed by autistic actors but that’s a rant for another time.

Hello! The ever-sweet and wonderful @marthaskane tagged me to share eight shows that define me/help you get to know me. Without further ado, the shows!

Alias (2001-2006)

Alias has taught me the value of old LiveJournal pages and the Wayback Machine more than any other show I've ever loved. I discovered this show in 2013 when it was on Netflix and then I spent a few months in Germany, where I spent too much money buying almost the entire show on iTunes because I could not comprehend going more than a day without Sydney Bristow with me.

2. The Clone Wars (2008-2013, 2014, 2020)

I remember when this show first aired and my siblings and I had a square dance at our school (very American, I know) so we had to DVR it. The next morning we snuck down early to watch it with the volume super low so we wouldn't wake up our parents. Few shows have continuously come back into my life the way this one has. I can track a lot of how I've changed as a fan through the different ways I've viewed this show over the last 15 years.

3. Fringe (2008-2013)

I've been rewatching this show since January of this year and can confirm: it is still a nearly perfect 100 episodes of TV. Fringe manages to perfect a lot of the plot lines and dynamics that appear in Alias (both are J.J. Abrams/his collaborators projects). It manages to walk the line between a procedural and a mythology-driven show beautifully and so clearly knows what message and themes it wants to share from the very first shot. If you like exploring messy family dynamics, action, and the X-Files, Fringe is a good option for you.

4. Gotham (2014-2019)

I historically have no cared much at all about Batman. He struck me as pretty boring in comparison to every other person he interacted with. Gotham change that for me (turns out he just needed to be put next to any even more boring guy, but I digress...). Loving this show is a lesson in looking past weird choices, wacky inconsistencies, and learning to just trust that writers will give you a fun ride, even if you understand less that 15% of it. It helped me remember that the sentence "I love this show" does not always mean "here is a perfect example of perfect storytelling" and just how freeing that can be. It also gave me a beautiful little group of friends who continue to make me smile on a regular basis.

5. Blindspot (2015-2020)

While this show may not be one I post about often, it was foundational for how I interact in fandom now. It was one of the first times I was active in a fandom from the start of the show. It was the first time I was in a fandom group chat and my Tumblr friends broke containment into being people I followed on Instagram and texted. I organized a Secret Santa. It was the first time I remember actively freaking out of promo photos (1x09 IYKYK) and synopses. Almost all the confidence I have when interacting in fandoms is from these experiences. And the plot is stellar.

6. Iron Fist (2017-2018)

I can't tell you how I ended up watching this. I do not know what prompted me to turn it on but I'm really glad I did. This show has so many amazing nuggets of amazingness and its shortcomings brought me together with two of my favorite people as we tried to understand what had gone wrong and where. (This is not a good ad for the show.) I love getting to play with stories and characters that have seemingly infinite potential and getting to do it with other people who are just as committed to the story as I was meant the world.

7. The Rookie (2018-present)

I fought against this one so hard. I did not want to get into it, but as my dash filled with those gifs of Lucy in the green dress and I had my wonderful friend pitching the show to me over and over, I caved. And I'm really glad I did. The experience of watching a long season over months, one week and one episode at a time, is so different than streaming or rewatching shows and I'd forgotten how much I missed it until I got to do it again for this show. My Tuesday livestreams with my lovely friend single-handedly pulled me through so many rough spots over the last year. For a procedural dramedy, The Rookie continues to serve up some of the best characters on TV right now and consistently delivers some of the best cold opens.

8. Prodigal Son (2019-I'm in denial)

The show that owns my heart and soul. The show I'd sell my organs to get new episodes of. Returning to this show, whether I'm writing fic, doing a TED Talk in my head about the psychology in the show, or actually watching an episode, consistently feels like coming home. I did not know it was possible for someone to stick their hand in your head and pull out a show custom-made for you, but that's what this is. The characters are all so perfectly imperfect and desperate to be better. The plots are just the perfect amount of bonkers. The show being a drama pretending to be a procedural is beautiful. If you'd told me in 2019 that a show about a profiler whose dad is a serial killer and they solve crimes together would be the show that would leave an indelible mark on my life, I would have rolled my eyes because that's so cliche. 2019!me had no idea what she was on about. But I'm glad she figured it out and randomly put on this little show one night that had continued to pull me through good days and bad days and everything in between.

Hi. Sorry it’s me again. I’m having too much fun discussing Daniel with you and have to add on.

I like how you say he feels a sense of duty to people on his side of the garage and at the factory. Because when you watch the Through the visor episode on monza and Daniel says his first thought when he got the lead over max was that the team must be so pumped right now, we’re leading. That win was as much his as it was theirs and he was happy to be the one to have given them that. Also in Singapore this year, after all the shit that has gone down, he has his best season finish and he captions his Instagram post with we needed that and includes a photo of his team members.

But as you’ve said how fine is the line between duty and ego? Like after Baku 2018, his ego takes over. He knows he is not at fault and he doesn’t hesitate to say fuck em all in the media, that red bull deserves to have both cars out of the race. But in a way his lashing out at that time kind of spoke of how comfortable he felt in the team. Yeah, it was quickly becoming Max’s team, but it was still his team and he knew he could voice out his dissent and still be secured within the team. Which is so in contrast with his time at McLaren. Like all through this year and last year, through all the bad pitstops, strategy calls and team orders, I don’t think he ever once lashed out on the radio or in the press afterwards. I don’t know if that says he lost his fighting spirit or he felt like whatever he said was not going to be heard anyway or the dynamics in the team was so bad that he felt he couldn’t push back because he never truly felt comfortable there.

To add on about how things at red bull would go down if (or is it WHEN) he gets that seat, I think red bull would expect him to be grateful, which is a bit like how they did with checo. We saved your career so do as we say. But Daniel would be coming off a year in which he’s had to play the show pony for red bull (whatever brand ambassador means), he’ll be hungry to prove all the people wrong and Daniel’s strongest motivator has always been winning when people don’t expect him to (China 2018, Baku 2017, Mexico pole 2018 and going further back that one race at Silverstone in formula Renault series where he won over Bottas and he still goes on about that). People saying he will suffer the same fate as checo forgets the one key difference between them - Christian loves him. He’s the one that got away and they didn’t know what they had until they lost him. So maybe at first he’ll be firmly stuck in the 2nd driver role but if he starts showing he still has it, I think they’ll allow the drivers to fight it out.

once again, SO good, SO true, SO interesting to think about on so many different levels. in particular, i think that point you raise about him not lashing out on the radio or in the media while at mclaren is SUPER interesting. i think you're right that there's maybe a bit of ~hopelessness to that, but it seems to me like it's almost driven by his own self-perception more than anything? like for as lighthearted a person as he generally is, it seems like he really sees himself as (or at least is very much Trying To Be) this grown, mature person when it comes to his career. someone that doesn't lash out or air his feelings out to the media anymore, someone that's aware of the time and effort and dedication that's being put in by people on the team and knows that airing shit out or publicly putting the blame elsewhere isn't really helping anyone. and obviously that goes right back to that sense of duty towards the team, maybe also combined with that part of him that still doesn't really like interpersonal conflict or making other people feel bad.

but like i was kind of alluding to before and you're alluding to here, the real test of that maturity would be being put back in a situation like the red bull seat and fighting it out at the front with the best of the best again. but if, in that situation, he could walk the tightrope and keep control over himself and his emotions in a way he maybe didn't quite as much before, it would only make him that much more of an asset to the team, i think. cause like you said, they fucking LOVE him there, and sure you can be a loose canon at times if the team loves you and your talent is otherworldly enough to back it up, but it's a lot easier for everyone involved if you're able to self-regulate those emotions. so for him to be someone that the team loves, that's bringing results, that fights for himself but is also willing to play the team game or stick to the party line when necessary? they'd never ever want to get rid of him ever

one tree hill (2003 - 2012) i feel like this one is the most important show if you want to know me. It's half of my personality. I grew up with this show and all of these characters mean the absolute world to me, I relate to them on a deep level and I've rewatched all 9 seasons of this so many times that if you tell me a quote from the show I can tell you who said it and in what context and season (maybe even episode) it was said. It's probably the best teen drama ever made and except for lack of representation (which i can excuse to some extent because it started airing in the early 00s) this is really something everyone can and should watch. Nothing beats the friendships in this show. I'm still searching for the brooke & haley to my peyton tbh

the vampire diaries (2009 - 2017) this show is very special to me because I started learning english more intensely and on my own outside of school because I couldn't wait until they were showing the eps with german dub half a year after they originally aired. I had to wait 4 years until the show made stefan & caroline a couple and no other ship has ever come close to how I felt (and still feel) about them. best friends to lovers will always get me and they did it so well. we do not talk about anything after 7x05, the show ended there for me tyvm. they were by far the best part of the show for me since I dislike a lot of the decisions the show made a lot of the time. but they were the reason I created a tumblr account back in 2015 that I've since forgot the name and password for 😂 it was an account dedicated to making icons for tvd. ugh i miss shows with multiple seasons and 24 eps for each season

blueming (2021) this bl drama is always gonna be important to me since it made me decide to choose film as the thing I want to major in. I got really into independent movies after watching blueming because the cinematography of it astounded me and I wanted to learn more about it and how to create beautiful shots like those in the drama myself. I also rewatch it frequently. siwon is very dear to me.

taxi driver (2021 - 2023) i debated if i should put this or the devil judge/flower of evil/happiness here because i love them all dearly and they're all tied for my fav kdramas of all time but this one was the first kdrama i watched weekly as it aired and I was so obsessed with it and its cases and characters. i love darker themes and case-by-case dramas, it's my favorite genre when it comes to korean shows. kim doki is such a dear character to me and i love the way jehoon plays him. words can't describe how happy i am that it's back on my screen and just as good as it always was. (plus pyo yejin is one of my biggest celebrity crushes i love her sm)

the haunting of hill house (2018) one of the greatest shows ever made and imo the best of its genre. ep 6 of this show especially impressed me so much because it just consists of multiple one-shots. i love mike flanagan, he's my favorite director and if you're into psychological horror i more than recommend watching this and midnight mass because they're both masterpieces. mike has this way of connecting horror and sadness and he does it so so well. I could write essays about his filmmaking and he's my biggest inspiration when it comes to film.

my engineer (2020) this was the first bl I was really invested in, I even bought tickets to the online fanmeeting which i usually never do for anything. these characters and actors really helped me get through the lockdowns in 2020. one of the few bls where they managed to give everyone their fair screen time and made everyone's story enjoyable to watch. also very important part of why i loved watching it was the lack of fanservice they made the actors do and that we got them all in one room reacting to every episode together. it was the best and i wish more shows would do it.

light on me (2021) oh what a show. even though I don't like the ending and I think the last episode had some continuity issues and felt like a second thought in some ways I thorougly enjoyed the ride this drama took me on. the runtime allowed for the show to explore its characters well and made us able to connect with them. i miss that for newer shows a lot. shin daon is and probably will always be my favorite k-bl character, he felt so real and I could see an old version of myself in him. he deserved a lot better and I hope he's off to college living his best life, he deserves it.

one day at a time (2017 - 2020) let me just say that I am NOT a sitcom enjoyer. shows that are targeted to make me laugh usually don't and I get bored early on because I don't get the appeal. nothing against these shows, they just don't speak to me. HOWEVER odaat is a huge exception because I was hooked to the well-balanced use of humor and deep conversations and topics portrayed in this show. plus it also made me laugh!! and sometimes also cry both in the span of 5 minutes. these characters have a special place in my heart. elena halped me a lot in my journey of self-discovery and I loved the way the show portrayed her journey.

bonus: (i know this technically makes it 9 but i didn't know where to put it)

wish you (2021) I'm adding this as well but extra since I only ever watch the movie version of it. it's imo the only kbl that works as a movie. even though not a lot of people love this, it is my most rewatched k-bl (and I think bl in general). I adore Sang Yi, he's a lot like me and watching him be an awkward mess in front of his crush and idol is very cute to watch. the OST for this show is also so good i listen to it all of the time.

Week 8 - Elements Descriptions

Canon DSLR Camera

Canon 750d is a digital single-lens reflex camera produced by Canon, a well-known Japanese camera company. The Camera was released back in February 2015. This camera was purchased by my parents for me back in 2018 from Harvey Norman for my school photography subject. It was the one of the best Budget to Mid-range DSLR camera at that time. It is important to me because one of my hobbies is photography and I like to capture the moments in time and share them to the public. The camera reminds me of my creative and adventurous self. The fact that I have brought the camera to various locations and places that I have visited and travelled to. It has increased my creativity when it comes to storytelling through images and using creative digital tools to enhance the thematic idea. 

Bible

This Bible was from a church conference that I attended back in 2017 held by Life Church in Auckland. The black leather New International version bible was given to me by my parents after the church conference ended. This object was given by my parents. It is important to me because it helps me with my faith and deepen my relationship with God. It is significant to the Christianity faith that I believe in. I have taken the bible to mission trips out in the middle east and the word of God comforts and encourages me in my day to day life. It shows me how I should live my life and how good my God is. It not only strengthen my faith but it also teaches me the characteristics of God. The bible helps me to create design projects for the church that I am currently in through words spoken by God. 

Cross

The origin of the cross symbol is from Christianity. As Christians we believe that Jesus died on the cross to pay the price of our sins but on the third day, he resurrected and now there is life and that we now can have a relationship with God the father. This element was founded in my faith as a Christian. My parents are Christians so I have been exposed to Christianity since I was little. The Cross is a significant symbolic imagery widely used in design to show the love and salvation that was freely given to us.

AirPods

Airpods is a wireless earbuds from apple. The 2nd generation pro series was made earlier this year. It improves the sound and noise cancellation quality. The AirPods was purchased earlier this year to replace my older 1st generation AirPod Pro's. This listening device is significant to me as I have a passion for music and music helps me to unlock ideas and creativity within the design space. It also helps me to focus and not get distracted.

Macbook

Apple's M1 MacBook was released back in November 2020. The first Apple Laptop with Apple Silicon Chip which increases performance in every aspect. This Computer was gifted by my parents as a graduation gift. The main purpose for the device was to pursue my design degree at the university. This device is significant as it helps me to create and using tools for design. It is the main device where designs are being produced. The computer helps to gather information and design ideas where I can learn new tools and techniques to master and improve my creative skills.

Piano

The Piano is an instrument that produces sound when the white or black keys are being pressed. The Piano was invented by Bartolomeo Cristofori in the mid 1600's. (Yamaha.com) This Kawai branded instrument was bought by my parents back in 2016 when my brother was still learning the piano. I occasionally use it to play worship songs as a way to relax and have fun. This instrument is significant to me as my mother used to play piano at church and I want to pass on the gift that I have in music to Worship God. The piano can be used in various settings and playing different genres of music, in the same way I want my designs to adapt to various environments and be inclusive while being diverse.

Wall Art

The wall arts in my room are encouraging Bible Verses and Prayers that represents my identity as a Christian. The Wall Art was passed down by my family and it is still relevant to today. The significance of the Wall Arts not only decorates my room and make it look nice but it is also a reminder of my Walk with God as being intimate. Hanging the wall arts on my bedroom wall also shows that I welcome God to dwell in the place that I sleep in, which gives me comfort and peace on a day to day basis. Each Wall art are creatively crafted and drawn to show its character and tells its own story. I want my designs to be able to tell a story to my viewers and help them understand my intention behind each individual art piece.

Coffee

Coffee is my go to fuel when I needed to focus and get things done. It helps me to stay up late to finish work. Coffee is also known for its aesthetics packaging and design that helps to inspire me with my design work. Coffee helps me to reflect and calm myself down in stressful times. Coffee also helps spark creativity and ignites my thinking as well.

School Yearbooks

School Yearbooks is one of the memory objects that I still hold onto till today. The yearbooks shows the transition from one year to the other. Showing achievements and photos taken at that time period. School Yearbooks shows different themes every page with its own style and characteristics while telling a story through visualisation. I want my designs to create a history that people will remember and appreciate.

Flight Tickets

Aviation plays a significant part in my life. As an aviation enthusiast, I have been collecting flight tickets of planes that I have been on across the world. Airlines such as Turkish Airlines, Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines to name a few. I am fascinated by the different ticket designs by different airlines. How different airline branding such as colour influences the content that is in the airline ticket. It inspires me as a creative to have a consistent design system in various collaterals even in the small details such as a plane ticket.

Stickers

FindGod Clothing stickers are a merchandise by FindGod clothing, which is a christian apparel online shop with its aim to spread the gospel of Jesus throughout New Zealand by wearing the clothing pieces. I have been given stickers as part of my clothing purchase. I am always inspired by the slogans and bible verses that are on it. Each stickers uses its own unique colour palette and typography to spread the message across. The stickers shows the significance of spreading a message or awareness in a form factor that is easy to put around while showing its unique designs to enhance the communication within it.

FindGod Clothing

FindGod clothing was first launched back in September of 2022 by two Young Adults from the same church. They had a vision from God to be unashamed of the Gospel and they started the clothing brand as an expression of the calling. I have bought a few pieces from them through their online website for the past year and I really enjoyed wearing them out in the world. Spreading the message of love to those I walk past. These clothing are significant to me as it shows the identity I Have in Christ and that I should not be afraid to living out my faith and sharing them to the people around me. The designs inspires me to create a clothing brand in the near future, focusing on christianity apparel.

Pick Jesus Necklace

One of the clothing accessories that I wear often is the Pick Jesus Necklace. Pick Jesus necklace was bought from a friend at my Church as part of his fundraiser to Cambodia Mission Trip. I very like the design as it represents a guitar pick and the word "Pick Jesus" it creates a humorous approach in conjunction with the design. Behind it is a bible verse to encourage not only myself but the people around me. I very like the simple approach the necklace has and it represents my style as a designer as minimalist.

Old Receipts

I have collected a bunch of old receipt that I got from various stores that I have been to. I am fascinated by the typography each store has and the composition/layout of the content within the receipt. The receipts creates memories of things that I have bought in the past. Some cheap and some expensive purchases. It helps me to expand my knowledge on composition as well as looking at the past and the historical designs that were made.

Design Books

I have a few design books that were given by a Friend who we visited as a family. He knew that I was about to study design at the university so he gave me a few design books for me to look and take inspirations from. At that time I wasn't clear which design pathway I wanted to take so he gave me some books of Product Designs. Even though I didn't take product design as a major, I am still inspired by the designs that many designers designed. The material choice, the patterns, abstracts and form not only inspires me as a graphic designer but it also unlocks a new perspective by incoporating principals of Product Design into my Graphic Design projects.

Packaging and boxes

I am a huge nerd when it comes to technology. I have been collecting packaging and boxes of devices that I have bought. I am fascinated by the different packaging designs that each product and company offers for its consumers. From the simplistic clean approach of apple packaging to the busyness of the Oral B packaging. I like the different forms and sizes that packaging has to present their product in a form factor that is user friendly and accessible. These packaging designs help me to think outside the box and focus on the user's experience when it comes to UI and UX.

Birthday Cards

I have an archival box that I store items that holds dear to me. Inside includes hand written birthday cards that I have received from friends and families. These collections of Birthday Cards has emotional connections to it and it conveys the feelings in an artistic way and humours way.

Seashells

As an outdoor person, I like going to the beach and collecting seashells that I find were unique and beautiful. I am fascinated by the form and pattern of each individual shells. Most of the shells were collected at Mairangi Bay Beach few years ago. The seashells helps decorates and sets the theme for the overall feel and look of my room. It helps me as a creative to find natural elements or elements in general that helps to set the atmosphere and the overall mood of the style that I am going for.

Samsung Button Phone

The White Samsung button phone was released back in 2012, it features a tactile number pad as well as a small lcd non-touch display. The phone was given to me during my mission trip in Turkey. We weren't allow to use our own personal smartphones so we had to use the button phones that were given to us. I very enjoyed the tactile buttons of the number pad and the navigation buttons. It has a satisfying click and response to it. I like the small form factor of the phone and it includes all the necessary tools to get things done. This object helps me to step back and appreciate the nostalgic designs in the past. It also helps me as a designer to create something that is different and unique to modern day designs and providing a tactile, intuitive approach when it comes to designing for the user's experience.

Music sheets

Music sheets accompanies the instrument and the musician to play a music piece. Music sheets are significant to me as it helps to learn and play Worship songs at church or at home during my own time. It's a supportive item to help what I needed to achieve. It helps me to get the tempo and rhythm correctly as the song intended to be. It helps me as a creative to have a systematic approach and finding tools to help and support me with my overall design idea.

Art Improvement

I've wanted to post some improvement for a while and with the recent art asks I think it's a good timing. Unfortunately I couldn't easily find art before 2007 so it's 2007 - 2022 now.

Detailed/Yearly examples below (long post, contains partial non-explicit nudity):

2007 - Started with ultra anime style. I always liked coloring and put lots of time into that. All art was still on paper, usually with pencils and copics.

2008 - Got into digital art, including drawing websites (I forgot the name of the one I mean - will update if I remember. kinda miss those) because my brother gifted me his old Wacom tablet. Still very anime but quickly getting somewhat away from it. Mostly because my fave artists weren't anime.

2009 - More digital art. Nothing special to say. Still mainly drawing headshots and 3/4 portraits. Honestly just drawing for fun and because I enjoy the media. Bully/Canis Canem Edit and South Park were the first fandoms I stayed long time and drew lots for.

2010 - More tries and focus on painting and rendering. Style is slowly gearing towards my current style I think.

2011 - ??? I dunno why but I couldn't find any art dated from this year lol. Maybe just not organized well enough?

2012 - Trying to get some anatomy practice done. Slowly starting to focus on actually improving because I couldn't get what I head in my head on paper.

2013 - 2014 - Still lots focus on painting. Also getting a liiiittle out of my comfort zone with poses - not a lot though. For some pieces I put in a lot of effort which definitely shows (I still like them to this day). I think this is where my improvement actually started.

2015 - 2016 - I think this is where my current style really begins showing through. I'm getting more comfortable with anatomy, clothing and painting.

2016 - 2017 - Start of active improvement and looking things up. I'm big time in the DC fandom (especially Halbarry) and draw tons for it. Starting to draw people interacting instead of just headshots. Starting here is my biggest improvement I think. Body language and emotions are becoming a key focus since I value this the most.

2017 - 2018 - More focus on bodies interacting. Anatomy definitely improved here. I'm starting to get away from painting lots and draw more simple colorations or just lineart. Definitely helped getting better at anatomy more quickly.

2019 - 2020 - didn't draw much. Mostly easy lineart stuff. South Park is still showing through ahaha. Didn't improve that much during this time.

2021 - not much to say. Also didn't draw much. 2022/today - drawing a lot again thanks to Sally Face. Currently focusing on special posing, angles and just people interacting.

The Late Late Show with James Corden producers called you and Harry trying to book you both to be on the show and to an interview together. You have to admit it that you got nervous; of course you had been through tons of interviews before but to do a double interview with Harry is a whole new level. You both are really private about your relationship and it's kinda rare to actually see one of you talking details of it, and it also had something to do about the larries fans. You were really concerned about them, you never want to disrespect them or even upset them in some way, even though some of them made fun of your relationship, they're still Harry's fans and you respect all of his fans without exception. But anyway, after a lot of talking between your management and between both of you too, you agreed to go and also felt a lot more comfortable because it was going to be with James, that was already friends of you guys.

It was set up that you both will be playing a game in the show called ''Spill your guts or fill your guts'', which actually worried you a little because of the hard questions but besides that, you were really calm, Harry made you calm. He was so great at calming you, I think it's the fact that those past 2 years you both had been through ups and downs and you got quite great at calming each other. And by the way, your man looked SO nice! You were kinda matching actually, as you both were wearing grey. You were in a grey suit and Harry had a grey sweater on looking stunning.

James called both of you on stage and you entered smiling and waving to the crowd as yoi walked towards James's direction. Harry gave him a big hug and you followed by hugging James as well. You both sat in the couch besides James's desk as the crowd got more silenced.

— It's so great to have you here! — James said to you both as he sat down on his chair — Honestly, I really thought you wouldn't accept!

I mean, I feel like there are times when we actually kinda get away from the world a bit. I truly don't know why. We just focus on spending some quality time together as a couple because we both work so much and we spend a lot of time traveling so it's something really important to keep the relationship stable. And we do it specially in the begging of the year, because that's when we celebrate our anniversary, so I guess it's just a habit that we have to disconnect and enjoy our time together so we can just focus on us and what we expect from the relationship on the following year. And it's the best time to do it because the holidays just happened and he have a little no work time to really be just us.

— Oh right! And how long have you been together by the way? — James asked, he actually knew the answer of that because you're all pretty great friends and you and Harry actually hangs out a lot with James and his wife.

— It's been two years now! — You answered.

— Yeah, it's been a bit now! — Harry completed.

— Oh so, you both weren't dating on the VS Show 2017? Because there were a lot of rumors by the end of the show! — James asked.

— We were not! We actually met at the VS, we took a long time to actually start dating, we started dating in early january 2018, I guess — Harry answered as he slided his hand on his perfectly styled hair.

— Oh, I see... And do you guys plan the future? — James asked making you and Harry exchange looks while smiling at each other — Oh, I like that look... Marriage? Kids? We ALL want to know!

— I mean... yeah! It's almost impossible to be this long in a relationship and not plan it! — Harry said — And I feel like we enjoy a lot of the time we spent together, it's been quite a journey and it's nice to have someone that you really care about and you want to have a future with by your side at some of the most important moments of your life, but I think we both agree that we still have a lot of things to experience before taking this step, you know, the marriage step. But yeah, I can't wait for a time when this is going to be a thing for us! I'd marry her in a heart beat and she knows it! — Harry said. He looked focused while talking but as soon as he felt your gaze towards him, he blushed and started smiling like a little boy who just got his favorite candy.

— So, you won't pop the question anytime soon? — James asked teasing Harry about his reaction over your gaze. As James were close friends with you guys, he knew how much you loved each other and actually everyone could see how Harry kisses the floor you walk by. He is head over heels for you and he melted anytime your hand touched him and anytime you smiled or even looked at him. You and Harry left the studio of The Late Late Show in NYC and grabbed dinner at a french restaurant in the city exactly like you both said you'd do in the end of the night. In the restaurant, you basically talked about the game and how fun it was to do this together and how much you loved going through new experiences together and how much you wanted to see what the future will bring to both of you, because even though the future was uncertain, you both had 100% of certain you wanted to spend it together.

feel free to ignore or delete- but what keeps you interested in liam/his career? i used to be a big fan but dipped because I didn’t like his music at all and felt he could do wayyy better not only lyrical wise but in general with how things turned out. i feel like his lack of genre direction and whatever background interferences really screwed him over. he put out collabs that weren’t interesting or that good. he would hype up a song, put it out then weeks later put out the MV when ppl were slowly losing interest and still expected his fans to do the heavy lifting with streaming/requesting because his interviews sucked and never focused on the right thing. i know his team is ultimately to blame but it was really frustrating because in a way he just seemed over the whole thing and who could blame him? I always wanted him to take a long break (from social media too) and use that time to find his sound, or an idea on what kind of music he wanted to put out and really put effort into it..but alas that never happened. do you think whenever he puts out new music it’ll be better this time or will it be alll the same?

I thought about not answering your ask, but I decided to go for it and developed a few points you made that aren't 100% correct.

It's normal people lose interest in an artist especially if said artist doesn't do songs that make them feel connected or not in the genre they like. That's completely valid! I go through that a lot and I'd be a hypocrite if I said I didn't understand it because I feel disconnected from everything Harry does so I don't engage with it.

But also I have to kindly and respectfully disagree with a few things you said in your ask and maybe correct the information because it's not right.

Even though a few of his collabs weren't interesting others really helped boost him solo career and even know are hits (For You and Polaroid, for example). These collaborations especially were hits because the promo rounds were heavy and there were a lot of performances in multiple media outlets (shows, radios, awards shows, etc.)

Liam or dare I say his team basically always released the music videos of the songs one week or two weeks after releasing the song. And now that isn't even the case since they always release the video at the same time as the song or on that same day (his latest singles and even during the LP1 promo with Stack It Up and Live Forever). I think in 2017/2018 was the year a lot of artists still waited a few weeks to put the music videos out due to being a strategy to get more people hyped for the songs and it was connected to promo phases. All the boys did this at that time! In the last two years, I believe artists and labels understood that the moment passes so it's better to release everything on the same day for major attention!

Liam's interviews haven't sucked a lot... in the last year, I'll tell you that the most part of them sucked because it's always the same themes and the same things being said over and over again. But Liam has had so many interesting interviews in the past... him being silly and having fun, talking about important issues (like mental health and the bad sides of the industry!!!!) and music. The problem is that those interviews aren't getting the attention they deserve! The attention falls on interviews about 1D or even his personal life and that's what the tabloids spread. His interviews with Capital aren't groundbreaking but that's what his team does in the last few years!

Now this isn't me defending everything he has ever done because a lot of things weren't good. But what motivates me still is the fact that this is one of the most talented artists in the world! It's being wasted by him and everyone around him, but that doesn't change the fact that he is a brilliant performer with the voice of an angel.

He has the potential for a lot of achievements. He just needs to focus on the genre he likes and on the message he wants to send. He has to do his work and present it ! Fuck everybody around him. He needs a new direction! The right one.

So my answer to your last question is no, I don't think things will be different soon or when he releases something next. Not if he stays with this team!
