really love how throughout a lot of smith and jones martha is really skeptical and apprehensive towards ten (+ one of my favorite exchanges between them - "what, people call you 'the doctor'?" "yeah?" "well, i'm not. far as i'm concerned, you've got to earn that title."), not taking everything he says at face value, even doubting the fact he's an alien until over halfway through the episode.. And like. i really truly think the thing that wins her over isn't him kissing her or any of the other insane mixed messages he manages to send, it's this scene here, where he /earns that title/ in her eyes:

this is what their relationship is built on. it isn't about martha being the second-best replacement to rose or a rebound or whatever. bc it isn't really about rose. it's about doctor-in-training martha meeting someone (quite literally, "the doctor") whose ideals she aspires to, and doing her best to be the same person to him as he is to everyone else. it's about ten in return admiring her intelligence and inquisitiveness and how she cares for human life, recovering his compassion, letting himself lean on her for support - and then remembering at the most inopportune moments that he's supposed to not need anyone and be on his own forever. And around in their little nightmare loop they go where they save each other over and over until one of them breaks

i've seen ppl look at martha and go "why she does she admire/why is she so in love with ten if he acts like that to her?" or something along those lines and like. it's not just the fact she's in love with him (in fact i'd argue she actively tries to push it aside post-gridlock). it's the fact that she knows he's the kind of person to put everyone else's lives/well-being over his own. she trusts him to save her when she's in trouble even though it's been like two days at most that they've known one another bc she recognizes that same "deep all-encompassing drive to help others" in him. and she also recognizes, much much earlier than him, that he needs someone to save him, especially when he's unwilling to save himself. and yeah for a bit she thinks he returns her feelings and is just playing hard-to-get, but she realizes pretty early on that this probably isn't the case, and i think that realization fully solidifies here:

And idk it might just be me but i think this expression isn't just her empathizing with his loss. it's also guilt, for wanting something from him that he's clearly unable to give when he's wracked with so much grief. (and you see it in the next episode, where tallulah asks if they're together and martha says for certain that they're not, and that he doesn't know about her feelings for him. she keeps everything to herself bc she now knows that when he shut her flirting down at the end of 3x01 it was the genuine reaction of someone who a) isn't interested and b) is scared of getting close with someone else again)

freema described their dynamic as "she's keener than him" and i think about this all the time. martha doesn't really take what ten throws at her. what she does instead is constantly poke holes in his already-failing front of "i will show someone the wonders of the universe so i can ignore what is wrong with me". what she does is stand up and fight him when he tries to go off on his own. what she does is put aside her well-being in favor of helping someone - just like what she saw him do for the people in the hospital when they first met. tldr, that's the doctor and his doctor and rip martha you would've loved who's gonna save u now by rina sawayama

Falena was annoyed. Irked. Displeased. Leona had finally, finally, brought home a love interest, or at least that’s what Falena thought she was; However, Leona refused to admit or even discuss the possibility that she was his girlfriend.

It was the Festival of Love after all in Afterglow Savanna, a three-day event that celebrated all types of love within the kingdom. Why else would Leona have brought home a girl if not to celebrate with her, but Leona didn’t specify if she was his girlfriend or not upon introduction. Furthermore, when Falena prodded Leona for answers, he basically told him to shove off and leave him alone.

When Falena tried to investigate, follow them around, and send spies after them, they always coincidentally appeared to be just platonic friends. A woman holding a man's arm could still be considered friends after all. That wasn’t a big enough clue either way. And when Falena had finally thought he was going to catch them sneakily kissing in a dimly lit hallway, they’d always be conveniently separated from each other.

However, Falena could smell them on each other. Her light perfume blended into Leona’s skin and when she passed by, Falena could clearly smell the earthy scent of Leona’s hair products. They must have been coming into at least close to close contact to justify smelling like each other!

There were other times too, that were as plain as day, that the two were so obviously in love. Leona would laugh with her. Falena could hear their snickers and teasing during various festival activities. Leona rarely laughed as much as he did with her. He looked at her with a sort of happiness Falena hadn’t seen since Leona was a child. Leona would also talk to her, speaking far more than he had the past four years since going to NRC and starting his work as a Prince of the Afterglow Savanna. Falena could barely get Leona to say more than a sentence to him sometimes, but here he was having these long-winded conversations with her.

So why was Leona hiding it? Was he ashamed of her? No that couldn’t be it. Leona would not have brought her otherwise. Was it because he knew it would annoy the entire family if he was as vague as possible about it? That was a possibility but seemed to be a bit of a stretch. They had apparently known each other since NRC but Leona hadn’t thought to bring her around until now? How could Leona decide to enlighten his family with a girl and then proceed to not introduce her as his girlfriend?

Furthermore, every time Falena tried to get the girl alone for a quick chat, Leona would somehow always swoop in like a knight in shining armor here to sweep his obvious lover away from revealing any sort of truth to the matter. Leona always pulled her away with a groan of ‘Don’t annoy F/n with your questions.’ Really, how could Leona consistently be so grumpy about it?

It really was starting to get to Falena. He was determined to find out the truth and the perfect opportunity to do so was going to occur later that evening. A special event was planned called ‘The eye of love.’ It was a yearly activity where a magical camera would pan the crowds showing couples that exhibited a blossoming love. It was an ancient spell mainly used for fun to embarrass couples and had been a main part of the festivities for centuries.

Falena politely, strong armed the yearly caster into making sure, no matter what, the camera would focus in on Leona and his friend. Was this perhaps a bit petty? Yes. Was this also a small invasion of privacy? Also yes. Falena was determined though, to thoroughly ignore his brother's reluctant feelings to find out the truth.

Why, one may ask, was Falena so determined to find out whether Leona had a girlfriend or not? The answer was simple, Falena wanted to make sure the one person that seemed to make Leona happy would be welcomed into the family. Instead, Leona had been corralling the girl away at any possible moment. Two could play this game. Leona wasn’t the only one that could play dirty.

Soon, the roar of the crowd killed Falena’s train of thought concerning his brother. He walked out onto the stage waving, sending out well wishes and hopeful phrases. The general announcements occurred as well as the small speech about hope and encouragement for the love season. Normally Falena wasn’t so impatient during this part, but he really wanted the excitement to start.

Finally, the magical camera, naked to the eye, zoomed around homing in on various couples of various ages. It was quite cute. The first couple to be shown was an elderly pair that seemed to finally admit their love for one another. The next two couples were younger, around mid-age, and were showered with the traditional flower petals for the event during their kiss.

Falena could barely contain his excitement as Leona’s face appeared on the magical screen. The crowd instantly recognized the second prince with a slight cheer. Excitement was strumming through the air. Falena’s smile slightly dropped though, when it appeared that Leona wasn’t at the event at all, but seemed to be walking in some sort of foliage area with F/n.

“If you get in trouble for missing the eye of love event, I’m not gonna defend you.” F/n said. A smile appeared on her face as Leona helped her step off the rocky ledge.

“What do you mean? You’re my accomplice, you’re breaking the rules with me.” Leona responded as he looked back with a smug grin.

“That’s not what I’ll be telling King Falena.”

F/n didn’t have to be looking at Leona to know he was rolling his eyes as she trotted up behind him.

They had been walking for a good thirty minutes. Winding through a rocky path, up various hills. Honestly if F/n knew Leona was going to take her on a full blow hike she would have worn different shoes.

The path soon widened and appeared a large opening filled to the brim with green foliage and blooming flowers. There was a small opening to the left that looked over the grasslands. The sun was just about to set, yellow and orange hues filled the sky.

“Wow… it’s beautiful!” F/n said, running up to the opening admiring the view and the flowers. An excited smile graced her features. “This is what you wanted to show me? How romantic.”

“Always gotta get a tease in, huh.” Leona shuffled back and forth on his feet. He took a few steps towards her, grabbing her hands. His features softened and a slight anxiety bubbled in his chest. “F/n, I… wanted to ask you something.”

“Yes?”

“Actually, I wanted to give you something.” Leona said, reaching into his clothes to pull out a small box. He flipped the lid up revealing a red jewel hanging delicately on a golden chain. F/n's eyes widened, and she glanced back and forth from the box up to Leona’s eyes.

“This… this is for me.” F/n asked. She was shocked, while Leona often gave her gifts, they were usually just things F/n had recently said she wanted. While it was incredibly thoughtful of him to always indulge her whims, his normal gifts weren’t as elaborate. They were flowers, or a blanket for them to share during naps, not an incredibly expensive looking necklace.

“In my culture, giving a gift like this is… 2nd to a marriage proposal. It’s a declaration of intention. An intention to love forever.” Leona explained, bringing a hand up to F/n’s cheek. Leona was a bit scared, nervous to ask this. He had never met someone as wonderful as F/n. While he didn’t think she’d say no, there was a possibility she would maybe not prefer this life with him. “If you accept this, it also means you… feel the same.”

F/n smiled; a nervous feeling fluttered through her. She couldn’t believe it. Leona and her had been serious for a while. While she knew he took their relationship seriously and she did find the whole ‘annoy Falena as much as possible’ schtick funny, this wasn’t what she was expecting.

“Leona… are you sure? I’m… not royalty and well… I don’t want you to be put in a bad position because of it. You care for your kingdom, and I just want to make sure you’re always happy.” F/n responded. She really was worried. She loved Leona and didn’t want to make his life more stressful. What if the kingdom didn’t accept her? What if he regretted it?

“Tch, what happened to that lecture you gave me the other day, huh?” Leona asked with another roll of his eyes. He handed her the box as he wrapped his arms around her. “You told me the world was full of possibilities and that there was always hope. You’re not gonna fight for me now after saying all that?”

F/n laughed, her body shaking in Leona’s arms. He always had to be so cheeky.

“Well that doesn’t count. Don’t use my words against me.” F/n responded, leaning in closer. She could see Leona’s eyes soften. Who was she kidding? She would do anything for him, even if it led to tough times. “You promise to take care of me every day?”

“Of course.”

“Alright then Leona Kingscholar, I accept your love.”

She saw a smile appear on his face, the brightness behind his eyes gleamed, as she leaned up to give him a kiss. Her arms wrapped around his neck as he squeezed her tighter. Leona kissed her back passionately. A laugh bubbled out of her as Leona slightly raised her body off the floor spinning her around.

“Perfect, my love”

The camera cut out. Falena could hear the deafening silence as the crowd, as well as himself, processed what they had just seen. It took about three seconds before cheers broke out. The silence turned to rancorous chants and screams. Flowers were thrown up into the air as music started to ring out.

The crowd seemed to fully support Prince Leona’s plight for love if the chanting of his name was anything to go by. Falena was quite happy as well. Now he could finally get to work and plan a wedding. As well as devising a separate plan to make sure Leona didn’t kill him after finding out the entirety of Afterglow Savanna witnessed his love confession. Perhaps Falena should go on an extended trip to a neighboring kingdom to avoid Leona’s wrath.

Well, it’s not like Leona would find out that Falena was the one to order that the magical camera be rigged. It was just a very very unfortunate coincidence. Well, Falena would find a solution soon enough. Perhaps Leona would be so enraptured with his newfound love he’d be too busy to plot murder. Falena was content to enjoy the festivities for now, maybe he’d get lucky, and Leona would never know.

The luck of the draw always fell towards the king after all.

Hi kit, do you know how to tell if a person sending asks saying they need donations for their family in gaza, is fake?

Cuz someone sent me an ask and I’ve reblogged it but I was going through the comments and there a several blocked and one of them says that the op is scamming people.

I know there are ppl like this that are that horrible, but I wonder if you know how tell them apart ? Or if anyone knows for that matter. Cuz I don’t want to mislead people and give them the wrong information or anything.

hi, honey! this is gonna be all over the place but. i've had this very thing happen to me before as well, maybe three or so asks just like the one you received. i did fall for the first one, but once you see them over and over again, i think it can get easier to tell when it's a scam. one thing to note is when the actual account began to post. i notice a lot of these accounts began to post in recent days or weeks. at the time that i donated to the first person who sent me an ask like this, it was february, and they began to post around mid january. the next tell is one i see a lot, where they'll reblog a bunch of things about palestine, but they will all be in a matter of hours, days, etc. usually never weeks (and also, you'll see that they randomly begin to reblog in very recent days. ex. all their reblogs are from three days ago and onward). one more thing: look at their posts (not their reblogs. their actual posts), and check if it says "some replies may have been blocked, deleted, removed, etc). absolutely, 100% not a good sign. chances are, replies are being removed by the op because they're getting called out for scamming.

the structure of the actual ask is also a dead giveaway. if it ends in "my goal is x amount of money," usually somewhere in the hundreds or thousands, not a good sign. if they are asking you to respond to their ask PRIVATELY, not a good sign. if you copy part of their ask and paste it into tumblr or do an internet search, and you see it elsewhere, not a good sign! these blogs will go around copying the same message into people's inboxes. chances are, someone else on tumblr has posted about the very person who sent you the ask, OR, you will find it somewhere else on the internet, etc a gofundme (which, by the way, is where most of these scammers obtain their story or pictures. they'll find it in gofundmes as i said, articles, etc). before you engage, copy the username of the person who sent you the ask, and paste it into the tumblr search bar. this is how i found out that the first person who sent an ask like this to me was a scammer.

this post here (which i absolutely implore you to read, as it captures what i want to say here much better than i'm doing so right now) explains why there is an abundance of people on tumblr sending asks like this in people's inboxes. for one thing, they target popular tags (ex. literally, the "palestine" or "gaza" tags, or any tag that may be trending at the time), or, they go for blogs who are consistently reblogging and/or uploading content related to the genocide. why? because they're taking advantage of the fact that you want to make a change in regards to what's going on. and if that's the case, what would stop you from donating to someone "in need," right?

if you want my honest opinion, if someone is sending you an ask about this on tumblr at all, it's likely not real. to put it into perspective: people who are really in gaza and want to escape, raise money, etc, will go to big network places such as gofundme, because there are better chances of them raising actual money in general, but in a short period of time. as opposed to asking people individually, their cause will be more widespread, and more people will see it. not only that: places like gofundme are pros at figuring out what's a scam and what's not. op in the above post noted this, and how places like gofundme will remove causes that are clearly scams. that's why scammers avoid places like this at all, and go to places like tumblr, where it isn't so easy for the actual site to remove their post. it's only when people on the app pick up on it, that scammers' facades fall. does that make sense?

i feel like this sort of jumped around, but i hope i was able to clarify what you were asking anyway. if someone feels the need to add onto this, please do, and if i need to clarify any point i made, etc, please let me know! ♡

i obviously can't just make ppl actually read our posts to get our point, but yeah it's infuriating that spop stans just assume we're haters with no life for hating on a silly little kids show (while at the same time stans make spop look deeper than it is). we're just seen like homophobes/lesbophobes, racists, ableists etc. who send death threats to fans and the crew-ra.

of course, there are some people like that, but most of the anti/crit community does NOT condone harassment. although we may get a little intense about our criticisms, they're still valid. spop does romanticize abuse. it does make light of bullying. it normalizes ableism. it's still racist. maybe these things aren't intentional, but the fact it's a KIDS show is why we're so revolted. kids and teens are going to internalize these elements and think they're healthy both in fiction and in real life. we also have to remember that grown adults are behind this show, hence why we have to call them out on it. and still, we aren't out there attacking or sending death threats to nd stevenson or anyone in the crew-ra. i certainly do not support that.

also, at least i actually post things that aren't negative rants. i do post some constructive criticisms, like how certain characters and plot elements could've been awesome if done right. like i talked about how frosta would've been a more interesting character if she retained her s1 personality, or how a friendship between bow and kyle could've been neat. how characters like castaspella or micah could've been more relevant to the plot, or how catra's redemption arc could've been more efficient. you know, we're not attacking the show. most of us still love it - or at least what it COULD'VE been. spop has a good premise. the problem is the execution.

besides, i feel like this is important to ppl who want to write their own stories or maybe their own tv shows and movies. it might make a difference to these creators! who knows! at least i'm an artist and a writer, so it could help me. but most importantly, this is a space where we can point out these issues and what we would've done if we were the creators of spop. we don't attack spop fans, we just offer a critical view of the show. not to mention we're just a minority in the fandom, it's not like our blogs are going to cancel c//a or anything. the show is over and everyone got their "happy" ending, so we're not rlly ruining your experience. you can just block us or filter the tags, because at least we DO tag our shit.

Usopp is shafted by the fandom bc of racism mostly unfortunately but also I've heard a lot of people tend to not like Usopp because of how pre timeskip he's so cowardly or whatever which really throws me through a loop and floors me personally because besides the fact that he's my besutiful funny little guy for that, I also think Usopp isn't really that cowardly at all--I think he's brave. For the same reason why Nami is brave and why they both help eachother. They don't have superpowers or freak bones built into them, they are realists and grounded in the fact they know exactly what they're up against and they're just normal ppl against gods and bloodthirsty weirdos. And yet they both overcome that fear of...Dying and stand with their crew anyway. They are so brave and strong to me. Usopp is amazing and the reasons people have for not loving him to pieces are ones I always find quite shocking.

Tbh I've always thought Usopp was underrated mainly because of racism but being white I don't think I can make a proper analysis about the racism within the fandom because I don't get it first-hand. But I would love somebody to write it because I genuinely think it's very off-putting how the fandom treats him and I'd love to read it. And yeah, most of the people I've known who dislike Usopp always use the "he's a coward" excuse when he's genuinely one of the bravest characters. Zoro, Luffy, and Sanji can rely on their abilities while Usopp is just- He's not built different like them. He's no swordsman. He can't ignite fire from his leg. His body isn't rubber. The monster trio is called the monster trio for a reason, lmao, and they're also pretty much normatively pretty and just guys. Like average guys. Don't get me wrong, I love the three of them, but they're extremely sexualized for a reason and it's because they're sooooo made for the male/shonen-gaze. And I actually love the Monster Trio because even if they're like that, they have amazing backstories and their personalities are extremely complex, even more if you compare them to an average shonen protagonist. But, you know, after all, they're still normative af. They're made for men to want to be like them and women to love them, so a straight white cis guy from the general audience will see them, and ofc he will resonate more with them than with Usopp (when actually the Monster Trio is also for the queers and their stories are wayyyy better than what the general audience ends up seeing, but the mischaracterization of these three is for another post, ig).

On the other hand, Usopp is not like that. He isn't normative. First of all, he's black (forever mad at the whitewashing the own show did to him) so of course racism plays a big role here. But also he's scared most of the time because he's not built like the monster trio. He's scared of dying and scared of being left out and a burden. He wants to be stronger and turn into the adventurer he dreams of being. Despite not having any talent (or not seeing his own talents), he still tries to train harder and harder every day to overcome that fear. Even when he's scared, he'll help his friends and his captain even if that means dying. And people still call him a coward because they can't fucking read properly and they just see the first layer of his personality. I honestly think people don't like him because they hate having to think and having to analyze a character that has more complexity than just fighting and being hot (two things that he also does very well, thank you very much). Usopp is brave and complex and he's so so so funny and enjoyable to watch. He's a relatable character for a lot of people and he has one of the most emotional moments in the whole show. Maybe the people who don't like him suddenly skipped Water 7 because otherwise I don't fucking get it. One of the things I love the most about him is that his dream is something he has to achieve by himself. A thing he has to do by himself and for himself. Believing in himself. Unlike the other dreams of the crew, because most of them are tangible. I know his character is often played for laughs but damn, his emotional moments hit hard and they always break me. I've always loved him and I always will and I will forever fight Usopp haters because I just don't get them.

Omgggg I just saw your Striker post about all the theories AND YOU GET ITTTTTT

The recent surge in Striker has royal blood bc of Satan’s reveal has been wild bc we haven’t even seen the dude’s face to truly confirm if they look alike (but ppl are saying so anyway). Like I’m not against this theory entirely, I think there’s a couple ways it COULD work but everything you said about it diminishing so much of Striker’s character and story HITS THE NAIL ON THE HEAD because that’s exactly what this would do.

So much of Striker’s character has been built around his vendetta, his hatred for bluebloods, his reputation, and how’s he’s an example of just how bad things in Hell can get for an Imp like him BECAUSE of them being on the bottom of the hierarchy.

His story fits better as just some dude who wants more for himself because he feels he deserves more than what scraps are handed to him but the society he lives in just constantly beats him down despite his efforts (or the narrative in some cases LMAO). He wants so desperately to be somebody in a world where he’s forced to be nobody at the bottom. It’s why he admired Blitz back HMF for building his own business.

The fact he’s still grieving and is still very angry over what happened to him to the point he physically and violently reacts whenever his hypocrisy is called out (Stolas & Fizz) shows that things go deeper than simply not getting a parents approval or being abandoned.

Not to mention if Striker had blue blood in him, you would think he’d have some strings to pull to not live in the cave he resides in or he’d be recognized more outside of his wanted posters.

There’s just a lot that this idea contradicts about Striker’s character that we already know and I’m so glad you put it into words.

I did indeed also start writing the post out of frustration for this latest theory that has been getting traction with Satan and Striker and ended up including everything I've found off putting over time.

I really hope the actual show doesn't go that route cause it would be messy and very unsatisfying and I'll be the first to admit that hellaverse writing falls into underwhelming writing choices all too often despite all its merits and I basically don't trust it 100%

katara is constantly on twitter & she is currently STRUGGLING w what to do now that elon has singlehandedly imploded the platform. she has a decent following on instagram, but it’s not nearly the same bc she loves getting into fights w ppl and that’s simply much harder to do on an image-based platform. she doesn’t even consider joining tumblr (isn’t that like, a website for gay furries?) and she can’t join reddit either (that’s a website for the azulas of the world) so she’s currently just in the process of hoping that this whole twitter mishap will blow over soon. her camera roll is 90% selfies, pictures of her cat, and/or selfies with her cat, and the other 10% are pictures of her friends, but mostly zuko bc he hates having his picture taken so she finds it particularly funny. her phone case is made out of 100% biodegradable/recyclable material. the first thing she does in the morning is open her phone, read the news, then check tinder, hinge, and then scroll thru her twitter feed. and only then (once she has finished tweeting something bravely controversial) does she get out of bed.

aang isn’t technology illiterate per se, but he is way too cool to be addicted to his phone. he does use the popular social media apps a semi-regular amount, just because he genuinely enjoys seeing what people are up to, but he’s extremely healthy about it. his camera roll is filled with pictures of his friends, memes, and every animal he’s ever seen and been lucky enough to snap a photo of. he also has one of those ecofriendly phone cases of course. he mostly uses his phone to be a part of so many whatsapp group chats, including one thats just him, sokka, and mai sending homemade physics memes back and forth. he also uses his phone to spontaneously call people when he’s thinking about them, which all his friends have just gotten used to despite the fact that his generation simply doesn’t do that. from anyone else it would be annoying, but from him it’s just adorably charming.

sokka had a shitty old flip phone for the longest time because it was the phone his dad gave him before he left, back when he was a kid. by the time he gets a smartphone he has absolutely no desire to use social media, having seen its disastrous effects on katara’s brain. he has one of those bulky phone cases that doubles as a wallet and also a swiss army knife. all of the apps on his phone are organized into labeled folders. even his contacts are organized in groups. that said, his notes app is a fucking MESS.

toph has a phone, but she doesn’t use it much, bc it’s kind of a hassle. her friends and family know only to text her when it’s urgent, with exception of sokka, who texts her constantly, and aang, who will call her whenever he feels like it. she had sokka change her settings so that everything she writes (dictates) comes out in all caps; she’s sick of people informing her of this fact as if it’s a glitch and not something she is doing on purpose. she does have a twitter account, but she doesn’t actually follow anyone, just tweets whenever she feels like it (ie, whenever she has a thought she feels needs documenting). she has amassed many followers due to her dril+cher tweetstyle, a fact which pisses off katara (rightful queen of twitter of their friendgroup) to no end.

zuko is very precious about his phone, because it’s where he will someday write the next great asian american novel. at the present, it’s mostly scattered across various notes in his notes app, and mostly in code so that azula or his father won’t understand it even if they do read it. azula hacks into his phone a lot, a fact which he has resigned himself to, which is why all his text conversations are incredibly boring, except for his messages with katara, which are communicated almost entirely in an emoji secret language only they understand. his camera roll is almost exclusively screenshots of pdfs and pictures of other people’s cats he’s saved, as well as some of iroh’s old man memes he sends in the whatsapp family group chat (which is just uncle, zuko, and azula who has it on mute and never opens it) which autodownload into his camera roll (he doesn’t know how to change that setting). he sleeps with his phone under his pillow, and always has it in his pocket during the day, but somehow azula still manages to steal it at least once a month, and until he leaves for college, he’s just gonna have to live with that.

suki loves her phone for one reason and one reason only: spotify. the annual release of spotify wrapped is like a holiday to her. she does not shut up about it for a whole month, which is as annoying as you would think it is. she uses instagram sparingly, mostly to slide into slide into hot girls’ dms or respond to dms from hot girls. her voice memos are littered with half-baked ideas for new songs that she wakes up in the middle of the night to record before the idea is lost forever. her camera roll is mostly selfies of her with her friends and videos of her skateboarding. she also has an ecofriendly phone case (it was a birthday gift from aang).

mai loves her phone because pretending to text gives her an excuse to avoid talking to people in public spaces or at parties. she's very invested in her physics memes groupchat, which has an unspoken competitive element to it to see who can craft the cleverest physics-related joke (it's the only time she's ever actively cared about winning anything). she has a lot of games on her phone, half of which are for tomtom. she's very lucky that she knows how to jailbreak her phone, because he makes a lot of in-app purchases without her permission. every day when she wakes up she solves the latest redactle and then scrolls through her tumblr feed. she has an entire folder in her cameraroll that's just videos of katara and azula getting into fights. she rewatches a couple before bed every night. it relaxes her.

azula is torn between hating apple products and knowing that having the latest iphone model is a necessary status symbol. which is why she has both an iphone AND a blackberry. she has a huge gold iphone with no case (and yet not a single scratch on it!) and one of those oldass blackberries with the tiny little keyboard. it’s sort of unclear what she needs both phones for, since it’s not like she’s a drug dealer, but she insists that both her phones are as necessary as her two laptops (one for schoolwork, and one for reddit and online chess, naturally). she’s in a group chat with mai and ty lee which mostly consists of one of them saying “lunch?” and the other two sending thumbs up emojis, as well as frequent correspondence with her father, which is mostly articles he forwards her that she reads and responds to thoroughly, and conservative memes that she always responds to with a “Hahahaha! Very funny, Father!”

ty lee has so many notifications blowing up her phone at any given time that she's just elected to ignore them throughout the day and then check on the people she actually cares about responding to (mai, suki, azula, 2/6 of her sisters...) before bed every night. she sees opening her phone as a kind of chore, and always has it on do not disturb mode, except for when she's being deliberately petty, at which point she'll turn it on as loud as possible because it makes her laugh when azula and mai snap "can you put that thing on silent?" in unison. her cameraroll is soooo many selfies, but seeing as posting pictures of face literally makes her money, can you blame her? she has a huge following on instagram, but she wisely never checks her notifications or dms because it's scary in there. the only apps she's actually addicted to are sudoku and online chess, where she is secretly catfishing azula by pretending to be some 12 year old boy from turks & caicos who trounces her every time. meanwhile whenever she plays azula in real life, she makes sure to always lose to her and never employ any remotely similar strategies as her catfishsona. azula never catches on.

can i be a lesbian who uses he/him pronouns? my reasoning for this is:

i am afab, i like girls, and i do not want to medically transition. i cannot even wear a binder and stuff as I’d like to for a good many years until i’m out of my parents house. i don’t use labels for my gender but if i did have to label my gender identity it would be something like genderfluid and agender. i dont feel like i have a gender but i fluctuate between feeling like i want to present masculine and use he/him, like i wanna present adroynous and use they/them, like i wanna present as feminine and use she/her. but i feel masc presenting and comfy w/ he/him most of the time. however, i’m only out to like two people, and both of them, while queer or a good ally, still see me as a girl bc i go the same girls school as them, cant present as masc, etc. and it’s obviously the same everywhere else - society, friends, family, treat me like a girl, even if i’m not one. i grew up as girl, i feel like - i only started feeling like i wanted to use he/him and present as masc in my late teens. and i like girls! i love girls. and my love for girls and for women is so shaped my the fact that i spent most of my life as a girl (feeling like one, that is), so shaped my the fact that society and friends and family perceive me as a girl even tho i’m not. that’s why calling myself straight would feel…. wrong, at least to me, you know? bc. yeah. i do wanna present as masc and use he/him pronouns most of the time. but i’m never really gonna be seen as a boy by most people. i wasn’t a boy for most of my life. and my love for girls and women is shaped so much by those two things that i feel comfortable with the term lesbian, while simultaneously wanting to be addressed by he/him pronouns. so, like….. it feels so awful, i feel like such a terrible person. bc i’be spent so long fighting myself out and now that i finally feel like i’m comfy with my identity i don’t actually feel comfortable at all, i feel like i’m hurting women, or i’m stupid. i just saw a post the other day that said smth like ‘while every1 can identify as they wish it bothers me that he/him ppl use the term lesbian, as women need a term solely for women who like women’ which, like. i feel terrible about. women have been through so much already for all of history, there’s a reason l comes before g in the acronym, and i don’t wanna stomp on them and all the progress they’ve made, i don’t want to be a bad person…. Okay lemme start with,

Greek people aren't a race. We've never been that, I don't care how much the Renaissance has whitewashed our history. Greek people have never looked one way or the other. I just like to debunk white supremacists and their theories because

1. I'm not a mulatto nor a g*psy

2. My cousin is a black Greek man and this whole thing started because I wanted to show him that his heritage is his: success.

3. Greek culture does not belong to the Romans nor white Europe, die mad. Sami ppl can have it if they want, cause I said so.

4. I like to piss off Nazis

Going as far back as Homer, dark skin was regarded as healthy and beautiful amongst us. White skin was associated with weakness. Λευκώλενος for example, means white-armed which meant weak.

Pharos is a good source that I think talks about the dark skin part of it all

Heracles is painted in most cases with dark skin. So, it's safe to say that he was seen as a dark skinned man. (Look up paintings on amphoras, look up the terracotta statue of him and Apollo, etc.) Dark skin is associated with strength because, to put it bluntly... White people would faint and die if they ran around ancient Greece without sunscreen. Rip.

I went the extra mile and said he was probably a black Greek man because of Andromeda, who was the daughter of the king and queen of Ethiopia. Andromeda was Heracles's great-something grandma. And Zeus, well.. I'll get there in a bit.

A little about Ethiopia, most sources will say it's just Africa. But in some ancient texts it's described as the East and West. This might be a wonderful little hint, that said Hey. Black people were just living life all around us. I can't prove it but hey.

Memnon is another character who is either dark skinned or black. He's been portrayed as both in antiquity. Here's an article.

Achilles is a funny story. Most fanart will portay himst as a blond man.

Now. Allow me to go off a bit.

Achilles has never been described as white nor blond in the actual texts. Ξανθός doesn't mean blond. I call my sister that, she's absolutely not blonde. But she does have lighter hair and skin than me. Do with that what you will. His hair was also described as pyrros (red). Idk how to tell white people this... But your concept of blond and red hair? Very different than ours. Ξανθός can even mean glistening, the ocean was described as that, I don't think the ocean is yellow, do you? Another source, Aristonicus, says that Ξανθος meant angry (ξανθοχολοι). It doesn't help that Achilles's hair is described like that only two times, at Patroclus' death and his funeral. Both times he was angry. Aha! A clue perhaps, Sherlock.

Idk what else to tell ppl, Achilles was not blond.

In fact, Achilles has more in common with Memnon than any other character in the history of Greek epics. Does that mean that my ancestors were like "Woaah look at the light-skinned man! He can actually run in the sun without dying!!" Or was he dark skinned. I can't say cause it's just a story.

Odysseus, when Athena made him look like a "god", darkened his beard and his skin (Od. 16.175: μελαγχροιής, melanchroiês, which is a compound of melan, “dark,” and chroiê, “flesh”).

Zeus was portrayed as a black man by Sophocles. Not just dark skinned. Black. (Read Inachus)

I focus on the black history of it all because had Europeans not been racist towards black people I would have never been racialized and experienced violence because I'm a "mulatto". It's personal vindication to look at the history of my people with a critical eye. Idk if that makes sense but

I say this in the most genuine way bc I really am putting faith in your "I don't hate trans people! I am even friends with one!"

the thing is, you can say that you love trans people as much as you want but you still see people with dick as a man (aka, your dni says man = XY chromosome) and that's what one of the bare bones of the transgender moviment and it's really contradictory you say you support them but then turn around and says that a trans woman is not a woman bc of her dick

it's okay to say that you don't want to fuck an actual dick, just don't say these womans aren't woman!

Okay but like. This is where I get attacked. I don’t think trans women are women (or trans men as men). I respect them as people, and will refer to them how they want, but at the end of the day, I don’t and never will see them as women. I’ll always condemn violence towards them, bullying, or any kind of mistreatment, but I simply cannot ignore the fact that biological sex is a real thing and can’t be changed. And please don’t with the “but sex and gender aren’t the same!” Yes they are. Gender ROLES are a (mostly) social construct. Gender isn’t. My biggest question is at what point did the feminist movement start to prioritize males with dysphoria over females? I’ll never understand that.

I will also never be okay with the implication that males can be lesbians. Don’t shoot okay

All that being said! I am not being preachy or condescending when I say I love and respect people with different views on this. I’m literally the only person in my friend group full of gnc and non binary/trans ppl who thinks this way. Unfortunately, I’m definitely going to be called miserable, unloveable, evil, bigoted, worthless, etc. that’s what makes me genuinely sad. It would be one thing if I was out here calling all trans people disgusting predators, saying they don’t deserve rights, or that they should be mistreated, but I’m not. And I genuinely wish we lived in a world where I could have my beliefs and others could have theirs and we could all avoid telling each other to off ourselves :)
