i can’t do fan art or anything artistic, but i really enjoy carving things in wood so i tried to make the Halo and here’s the result

Thinking(something I didn't know I am capable of) about the psychological term Halo effect and remembering how at the beginning, when Ava just got the Halo, the OCS members perceived her as this cowardice, self-centred and thoughtless person just from their first impression of her. Then(I would like to think that), Ava's personality and strength are what channel the literal Halo effect.

pre-canon Halo line-of-inheritance theory

This theory is a little out there, but just hear me out.

I don’t think Shannon was the next-in-line before she became the Halo-Bearer.

Most of this is stemming from the dialogue during Lilith and Mary’s fight on the docks in 1x05.

Lilith: We used to be friends. You're the one who taught me how to shoot, remember?

Mary: And you know when we stopped being friends? When Shannon got the Halo, and you didn't. You changed that day.

Mary says, “When Shannon got the Halo”, not ‘When Shannon was chosen as next-in-line” or even “When Shannon was chosen to wield the Halo”. It was as if Shannon receiving the Halo was an unexpected event. It implies that it was the expectation that Lilith would get the Halo, so Shannon getting it was a surprise for everyone.

From what the show tells us, the Halo is supposed to be passed from the Halo-Bearer to the next-in-line, probably including some specialized training to “pass on what you’ve learned” (and perhaps even an “heir and a spare” situation considering the life expectancy of Sister Warriors). The show timeline is pretty crappy, considering they don’t provide much to tell us the passage of time and only give vague references to when things happened in the past. Suzanne was the Halo-bearer “a few years ago”, Shannon was the Warrior Nun for an indeterminate amount of time (but presumably not a very long time), and Ava has had the Halo for the 2 month duration of the show. Based on the Warrior Nun journal there could be at least 1-3 Warrior Nuns between Suzanne and Shannon (unless Suzanne never put her name in the journal, or used a different name when she signed it) (also this is based on my ability to read the cursive signatures in a blurry screenshot, so…).

Anyways, what I’m getting at here is that I think in pre-canon, Lilith could have been the next-in-line to Shannon’s predecessor with Shannon being “the spare”, and something happened to prevent Lilith from becoming the next Halo-bearer after they died, leaving Shannon to become the next Warrior Nun (we know that they have to do the transfer of the Halo relatively quickly as leaving it exposed attracts demons, so perhaps Lilith had been injured on a previous assignment and was not on the mission that lead to Shannon getting the Halo?).
