Hi! I want to say I love the au!!! This is so great I'm in love.
Ok questions!
Dose wally help people on the rink or poppy
Are frank, eddie, and wally in a Pollyanna relationship? (I think polly?)
And my last question...
Why did u come up with this au?
(Sorry for all these questions)
(Have a mini wally)
hello! glad tou enjoy the AU so far!!
1. both! while they were mainly there for enterainment purposes, all actors of the puppets were taught things such as first aid and would help people around the rink - even with things such as helping them use their roller skates!
2. yes, they are in a polycule! both the puppets and their actors were dating, and after the actors (Renny, Ken, and Mateo) married eachother, the puppets held a small ceremony at the rink which everyone could attend!
3. this is an idea I've had for months - I think since april or may of 2023? I really like both skating and roller skating, so when thinking of possible AU ideas, it was one of the first things I thought of. (more + concept art under the cut!)
I wasn't sure where to go with the story, though - just a vague idea of what I wanted to happen, so I let the idea sit in the back of my mind and focused on other AU ideas (@infectedhome & @thefoolau!).
around mid October of 2023 friends encouraged me to continue working on it, and I've been slowly doing so ever since! :)
here's Wally's first concept art! he was initally supposed to be with Sally, but while defining his design I realized he looked uhm. a bit Too Gay to be with a woman, so. here we are!

fun vessel/player fact:
(spoiler)
you DON'T have the reset in this au. but you can die and come back some place else.
and when you do you move on to a different vessel. your previous vessel will perish forever.
the more you die the higher your DP becomes and the more distrustful your next vessel will be.
what is DP? death points =)
if you manage to keep your first vessel alive they'll grow stronger alongside you and trust your judgement further. they'll become assimilated with your will if you wish so even when they completely trust you to value life.
if you discard them like tools they'll treat you the same. these puppets may not have much autonomy but they WILL react to your DP. some may even actively self sabotage and kill you if your DP is high enough.
some vessels yearn for your control... others will fight it. some will try to pry you out of your current body and have you to themselves while others want you OUT of them.
the lower your DP the more likely they'll listen to you even if you aren't possessing them. you can even have multiple vessels if you play your cards right!
try not to die too much in this au. you don't have many chances to prove yourself.

I'm tipsy and watching the 2011 Into the Woods and I'm having Thoughts™. Truly the best version.
Changing the narrator from the Bakers dad to a CHILD?? A kid who ran away from home?? Acting out and directing the whole thing with his toys?? I'm insane thinking about it.
A small boy, scared and alone in the woods, telling himself the story of an entire village of people scared and alone in the woods...The witch's lament about keeping children home and protected hits even harder when told through the lens of a child who ran away, who probably heard all the same words from his parents. "Stay a child while you can be a child."
AND THEN! The story starts to fall apart the longer our narrator stays away from home (Act 2). He realizes that running away doesn't solve anything. A main theme of Into the Woods is what you think you know vs. what the world teaches you. This boy is learning things he wasn't ready for, things his parents were probably trying to protect him from. Even early on, we see him standing close to the Bakers Wife when she says "maybe we should go home".
And he tries to escape the consequences! He wants out of the narrative - "I tell the story, I'm not part of it!" - and is forced into it by the witch anyway, immediately leading into (part of) her song, "no matter what you do, children won't listen".
And then we don't see the child again until he wakes in the woods!! And (spoilers) we see that the Baker - the one struggling with his role as a father for the whole play - is actually the NARRATOR'S father, who is just as distressed as his son and has (presumably) spent the entirety of the play looking for him.
We see a lost and scared little boy trying to make sense of the world and the relationship he has with his father, and a father who feels like he cant be the person his child needs, reconciling at the end and telling the story together.
It is a PERFECT change and I love it so much.
