I finished the Doctrine Book-bag for my Lamb cosplay! I think jt turned out pretty well, I used black foam clay for the edges and was going to carve them when dried, but I actaully?? Really like the goopy unclean look so I might keep it

I might still carve it idk, and maybe replace the strap with a chain for the whole theme

I know the Doctrine is a book in game and usually as a prop but I need something to hold my phone and wallet in easy access for when we scour the artist alley, so this idea came to be. Now it can hold my stuff AND it's in character!

I also recycled a cardboard box to put my cosplay in, made it look COTL specific:

thoughts on fanfiction, perfectionism, and being enough

I'm pretty sure I'm ill and half-asleep and the Good Omens fandom has destroyed my last tenuous grasp on reality, but I am making a post anyway not knowing what I'm going to say. Because that's what this site is for, is it not?

*holds out hand* *waits for you to take it* Hey, you know, you're never going to be done. You're never going to look at something you made and think it's perfect. It's never going to be enough. It's okay to stop and it let it be imperfect. The earth didn't just birth life into just the right conditions, it made creatures which evolved and went extinct, ice ages which ended, volcanos that destroyed life and volcanos that preserved cities for millennia. It made jagged rocks that would be smoothened by rivers and stomachs that would hunger, rivers that would flood and rivers that would run dry.

Create imperfect things and give them to the world. Let the world create from it in turn in an endless cycle. Like Milton on the Bible, like BBC with Sherlock Holmes, like anyone writing fanfiction of their favourite show... Let your creation be imperfect, so you can see all the million ways in which people try to perfect it. All the million ways in which perfection can exist. That's the beauty of fandoms and fanworks. It keeps the creation evolving, keeps it breathing and alive. It becomes the work of a million people, and carries their stories with it in a little back pocket.

And maybe we were made to be imperfect too. Our hair tangles just to be brushed, our arm itches just to be scratches, our hand clenches just to be held and unclenched. There are odd shapes that make us up but they fit in with everyone else's, in handshakes, in bridal carries, in a parent lifting a child, a rescue worker lifting a victim, a girl kissing her wife, a child hugging his toy, a person holding their hands in prayer or in pain.

I'm trying to remind myself of that, because it's so easy to keep wanting more, to believe that there will be a point at which I will be satisfied with what I have done. Even in this fandom, I look at my ridiculous summaries I accidentally wound up making, and look at someone's beautiful meta blog and I feel like shrinking a little bit. But in real life, I'm a designer and an artist, a reader and poet and songwriter, and someone who has been a writer the past eight years, if not all my life. Have I done enough to qualify for any of these roles? Who knows? It shouldn't matter to me, and it shouldn't matter to you, whatever you love doing or are doing.

It will never be enough, you will never be enough for yourself. Can we try to make peace with that little gap in ourselves that acts like a vacuum to keep sucking in more and more effort and things? It'll never be filled. That's okay.

*squeezes your hand before letting go* Isn't it amazing how imperfect and fucked up we all are? Isn't it beautiful that we don't have to sit and stare at statues we cannot touch, but we get stone that we can keep carving all we like? That creation starts with imperfection? I don't know if I'm making sense anymore, the medications are kicking in and my eyes are closing. But I love all of you, everyone who is a maggot and everyone reading this post, too.

Take this *holds out a seashell* it's pretty and it's broken and the animal that made it his home changed it, the sea changed it, and I hope you change it, too. That's all.

"Disappointed." (Was told, again, he couldn't see them)

"Why?" (After being told by Niki that she would get nervous/upset if he did)

"Unimportant." (I would usually group this with the one above considering they're the same word within a short span of time, but this one was spoken right after Niki asked what he wanted to do with the eggs)

"Why must you hurt me? Why must you hate me? Why must you? Do I need this? Is this for me? Do I need pain? Am I important?" (After he couldn't find a way to the eggs)

"We are not done yet." (Now talking to Empanada, who warped to them)

"Are you important?" (Asking Em)

"In everything?" (After being told that Em is important to her friends and family)

"This is good." (After being given an "I guess so" from Em in response to his previous question)

"Important." x4 (After being told he is important. The last two "important"s are said strangely, so I'm not sure if he's saying "I important" or just "important")

"Perfect." (After Niki tells him she thinks everyone is important, after saying this he would bring Em back)

"Are to/too/two are important./?" (It's very hard to decipher what he says here, so I'm unsure if this is a statement or a question or otherwise)

"Thank you." (After Em tells him that the Morning Crew and Sunny loves him (she didn't know he wasn't Tubbo at the time))

"What is king?" x3 (After Em calls him king)

"Need a home." (After Niki asked him if there was anything he wanted/needed)

"Please do not talk of; creator." (After Em asks if he's Tubbo or someone else)

"Outside must not; be on here." (Unsure whether or not he says "be on here" or "beyond here")

"Creator will not be mad, just will have to start over."

"When start over, I end." (I assume it's either like a full reset and then completely remaking the code, or a factory reset that wipes any memories or anything else)

"I end forever."

"I do not want to end."

"Let's go somewhere." (He says this before he starts walking off)

"Not finished; I struggle." (I assume he's referring to himself being most likely 'incomplete')

"The jump, keeper." (After Niki asks what he struggles with)

"You, keeper."

"I struggle with jump."

"Must not wet." (He says this after he sees a river, so I assume he's a robot of some kind)

"No fear but scar."

"Indeed." (After being asked by Niki if the water hurts him)

"Indeed." (Repeated after Niki asks him if he knows where he's going)

"It hurts; my feet." (After he sits down on the beach and his feet are dangling in the water)

"Indeed." (Confirming he feels better after Niki places scaffolding under his feet so they aren't touching the water anymore)

"You are sick?"

"I could tell." (Niki was sick during this and he says this after she confirms that she is sick. Also I hope she feels better soon <33)

"I said you would become sick."

"No, I just knew." (After Niki asks if he got her sick)

"Unimportant." (After being asked how he knew)

"Creator; and shells." (After being asked what is important)

"Only one is not." (Talking about the eggs)

"Unimportant." (He was asked two different questions before he answered, so I'm not sure which one he was answering to, "which shell isn't important?" or "are you here to protect the eggs?")

"The shell that is not." (Niki asks him again, "which shell isn't important", and he seems to dodge the question)

"I do." (When asked if he knows the name of the egg that isn't important)

"No." (When asked if he could give Niki the name of the egg)

"Must not." (When he was asked why he can't give the name)

"Priority of protection is private." (When he was asked again why he couldn't give the name)

"Some come first, some come after."

"Creator says the list must not release."

"Unimportant." (When asked if he is here to protect the eggs)

"To some." (After Niki said "I think it's very important")

"Purpose." (After being asked if it is unimportant to him)

"fandom is dying" is it? or is it already dead? like i don't know about you but i don't see anyone making things anymore. or if they do, they quickly tire and burn out and can't have fun with it anymore and use it as an escape, because they're stuck in a place of constant comparison: there is a certain kind of "content" (a word that makes me gag) that the new wave of 'fandom' is interested in, and that's whatever is trendy the second it's trendy for gifsets, or anything explicit for fanfiction writing. and then you also have how fanartists are treated: fic writers being compared to one another, being talked down to for how their stories ended, being run off tumblr and ao3 to the point they don't write for something that was so special for them anymore. gifmakers bust their ass making things just to have their creations stolen, get no appreciation and shares, and often have to deal with a constant stream of negativity on their sets.

the new wave of fandom just cares about what's currently trending and unsexy sex and it's so so tiring.

SPOILERS IF U HAVEN'T WATCHED THE LATEST TUBBO STREAM AS OF TODAY (Feb 21, 24) JUST SO U KNOW !!!!!! I will summarize these massive paragraphs in the points at the very end in a sort of timeline order that I can think of for this so gonna start off this rant talking about how the timeline makes absolutely no sense at all

So there was some sort of ancient thing from "long long ago" or something and they went to get the remains of it because for whatever reason that was gonna help to bring q!Tubbo back

also Creation was built by Tubbo to protect the eggs(? or atleast thats what its doing rn) (mainly Sunny I assume but could've originally started building it for Chayanne and Tallulah) after it was built it was given instructions I guess on what to do in case of certain situations such as him being gone in any way etc etc

but if Tubbo erased his memory (we'll come back to how that doesn't make sense as of now, later) of building Creation, then he must have already been given Sunny by the federation in order for him to have been able to put her as rank 1 on the list (because of course, he erased his memory of Creation, so he couldn't have gone back and changed it later)

Creation had been originally built "long long ago" (during the time of said ancient thing from earlier, some sort of order or something? we don't really know (double parentheses, crazy I know, but keep in mind that order could also potentially mean like "given an order" as in something it was told to do previously)) so was Creation originally built for something else? and then his purpose was changed to protect the eggs after that? Well then that implies Tubbo knew Creation existed during his time on Quesadilla island up until sometime after he got Sunny (I've seen some people talk about time travel theories about what I just said but im not gonna get into that cuz its a whole lot, im just saying what we know and adding a tiny bit of theories into it)

He joined an Operation at some point also? Im assuming during the long ago ancient era or whatever but like bro these are too many words to remember

So "the old order" and "the operation" are most likely 2 separate things as Creation doesn't typically use multiple names for one thing

So he made Creation before he joined the operation as a "last effort to hold on" and he did all that "very very long ago before the island looked like what it [does] today"

last effort to hold on makes me think like, as in someones dying? like Creation is his last chance if he comes close to death (which based on what we've seen makes complete sense)

anyways enough of confusing timeline stuff for now, time to get into whats going on with Tubbo specifically

Personally I though he might've been a robot, and I still believe that to be true despite information we've been given I feel its sort of a really badly kept secret on Creations part, it keeps sort of slipping up in its wording, forgetting saying things like "he will be shut off for good" is not the typical word use for humans(?) (things that are alive ig)

Because bro like you cant just drop "he was never alive to begin with" (he said talking to Phil) and like...... do anything else with that???? If something was never alive, it was never alive, like I dunno what else Tubbo could be without never have been alive?? It could've been an exaggeration or meant to be more like "he was never alive since the day you met him" instead of never alive at all

besides that, getting back to the "he erased his memory about specifically Creation existing" point not making sense, that is also why I think hes a robot still, cause how else would bro be able to just grab a specific memory from his brain and delete it??????

PLUS THE NEEDED DATA TO BRING HIM BACK HOW, WHO, WHERE, WHAT, WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU NEED DATA TO REVIVE SOMEONE WHO WASN'T A ROBOT??

even if hes not a robot bros got some like computer chip in his brain or something like........

also just gonna add in that on the original Creation stream (Niki's stream) he says something along the lines of protecting all the eggs except the one that isn't actually an egg or something Just wanna say that I think this is referring to Tubbo because yeah, he was always jokingly treated as an egg with cookies and everything and then towards the end he only had 2 lives just like them and Creation never protected him cause (A) he wasn't actually an egg and (B) Tubbo can't know he exists, so even if he wanted to protect him he couldn't either that or it was code flippa but whateverrrr :P

anyways thats the end of that for now until my brain goes crazy again

Tubbo made Creation before he joined "The Operation" (don't know what Creation was originally built for)

he did all that "very very long ago before the island looked like what it [does] today"

At some point he was frozen in the ice prison after this (we don't know for sure if he still has his memories of before this at this point, but most likely does for this to make sense (unless time travel maybe but we don't talk about that))

After meeting everyone and getting close with the eggs (specifically Chayanne and Tallulah) he starts changing the purpose of Creation to protect the eggs

Not long after this hes given Sunny by the Fed

He then completes Creations new purpose by putting in the ranking system (he would've had to have met Sunny before this or it doesn't make sense)

Then he deletes his memories (somehow lmao) of Creation

Creation is most likely shut down and hidden away somewhere, set to only activate if needed (dunno what these reasons he would've given Creation would be but one of them was definitely if he went missing/died or something)
