I just finished the first book of magnus chase and I fucking LOOOVVEEE this series already magnus chase is an amazing main character his narrative is so aggressive but he is not made for aggression. Love Hearth the elf man with my whole heart and having a bestie elf and dwarf is so no. 1. The whole time I was praying Sam and Magnus didn't develop a crush becuz I'm so sick of female character besties being only used as love interests and when it was revealed she liked someone else I was like YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSS.

I'm going to make a magnus chase oc.

Annabeth Chase has probably never gotten used to death being a permanent thing in life. like, the first time ever she saw one of her closest friends die was thalia, and she came back to life a couple years later and became an immortal warrior. then she saw percy, someone who probably meant just as much if not more to annabeth than thalia, die in an explosion. Then, he crashes his own funeral. Then her cousin Magnus dies and so does her friend Leo. She goes to her cousin’s funeral and surprise surprise, guess who’s there: Magnus fricking Chase in almost perfect health. (Ik he isn’t technically alive but eh). Then when Annabeth goes back to chb, she gets news Leo’s alive! So imagine how she must have felt when jason died. No matter how long it wouldve been, some part of her would always think hes coming back, just like with thalia, just like with percy,just like with leo and magnus. She knows he’ll never come back. But she hopes he does.

Annabeth: If I had a nickel for every time I went to a funeral and the supposed deceased showed up, I'd have 2 nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice.

Can we talk about how we definitely don’t give the Magnus Chase books enough credit? Like these books are such a beautiful depiction of coming to terms with grief and finding purpose in new relationships. Magnus’ struggle to accept his mother’s death and his guilt over it culminating in a beautiful moment where he feels her love and presence with and for him in his battle with Surt. The horrific despair he feels whenever someone around him is hurt, literally moving him to tears every time, even when it’s Gunilla, someone who has been actively hunting him. The line about how they are all empty cups, but that they can share each other’s burdens instead of filling themselves with pain. Just the beautiful bonds these characters who have each been isolated in their own way have formed with each other. How each of these characters have every right to be bitter and spiteful as a result of the tragedy in their lives, but choose love and each other at every turn.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone talk about the parallels between Annabeth and Magnus’ parents. Like the goddess of war strategy and the god of peace? Greek virgin goddess and Norse god of male fertility? Literally Annabeth and Magnus should oppose each other on paper but in reality they’re the only Chases NOT doing that.
