Prompt 29 - Climb
@jegulus-microfic October 29, Word count 881
Previous part First part
He couldn’t believe how many compliments Sirius had given him. He had no idea how to react to the praise, so he just nodded and smiled quick little smiles. He’d grabbed James’s hand at some point but couldn’t remember when. All he knew was that he couldn’t let go. He found it strangely calming, that simple touch. He felt confident enough with it to say a few things to his brother, even if they were only one or two-word answers.
“So where are you living now?” Sirius asked him after returning his sketchbook. He chewed his lip for a moment, knowing what Sirius was really asking.
“In the Halls. It’s noisy, but…” But it wasn’t Grimmauld Place. He couldn’t go back there. His parents had thrown him out right before uni had started, cancelling all his fees. Luckily, the university had been understanding and let him start his studies and move into his room on the understanding that if he didn’t get the student loan, he would owe them for back payments. It had been the scariest time in his life, but it had all worked out in the end.
“We loved Halls, didn’t we, Prongs? So many people to prank,” Sirius sighed nostalgically.
“Yeah, but everyone knew it was us. I think the Prefects were glad to see the back of us,” James laughed.
“W-w-what about you?” Regulus asked, wincing when he stuttered. Sirius looked at him sadly, remembering what had happened to Regulus at home if he dared to stutter within hearing of their mother.
“Up until a few weeks ago, I lived here. That was my room,” Sirius said, pointing at a door just visible from the living room.
“Why did you move out?” Regulus asked, his head filling with too many scenarios about James and his string of lovers and other highly upsetting things.
“Remus and I got a place together,” Sirius shrugged. Regulus guessed there was more, but Sirius didn't elaborate.
“Hey, Pads, come help me make more tea,” James had stood up while the brothers were talking and started collecting their used cups.
“What, why?” Sirius whined. “Why can’t you do it yourself? It’s only three cups of tea,” James leaned over, his nose almost touching Sirius’s and said very slowly.
“Mum sent over one of her chocolate cakes,” Sirius was out of his chair and racing towards the kitchen before James could stand up straight.
“Oi, Prongs, takeaway tonight? Reggie, you're staying.” Sirius said, coming back into the living room with a mouthful of chocolate cake. Regulus was relieved that Sirius had told him he was staying rather than asking if he wanted to. “I’ve put the kettle on,” He told James as he went to sit back down.
“Great, and now you can get cake for everyone and not just yourself,” James ordered, grabbing Sirius by the back of his shirt and preventing him from sitting. Sirius screwed up his face and mumbled profanity at James as James pushed him into the kitchen. Regulus couldn’t help the smile that spread across his face. He sighed and leaned back, tilting his head into the cushions and closing his eyes. He was exhausted. A lot had happened in the last few hours.
The front door opened again and a tired-looking, very tall man wandered in, yawning widely, his eyes half shut. He dropped his bag and flung himself across the sofa, his head landing in Regulus’s lap, while his arms wrapped around his waist. Regulus froze. The man froze too. He craned his neck back, staring up into Regulus’s face.
“You are not Sirius,” He stated. Regulus shook his head.
“Moony, Regulus. Regulus, Moony,” Sirius introduced them, not seemingly bothered by the fact that Remus was currently sprawled over Regulus.
“Hi,” Regulus said quietly.
“Moony's my nickname. You can call me that, or Remus. Whichever you prefer,” Remus told him gently before untangling himself from Regulus and going to greet Sirius. He kissed Sirius on the lips but yanked his head away as soon as they’d made contact and stared at him.
“It’s in the kitchen,” Sirius said, and then Remus was gone. A groan came from the kitchen a second later and Sirius snorted.
“Remus loves Effie’s cake more than he loves me,” Regulus now realised that Remus was Sirius's boyfriend. That made a bit more sense.
“I’m sorry,” He blurted out. “He was on me before I could stop him,” He really hoped Sirius wouldn't be offended and told him to get out. But Sirius shrugged it off.
“It’s fine, don’t worry,”
Remus and James came back with the tea things and plates of chocolate cake. James sat back with Regulus on the sofa, while Sirius took his chair again. Remus hesitated a second before he chose to climb onto Sirius’s lap, obscuring Sirius until he got himself settled. Grinning down at his large slice of cake. This was the weirdest tea party Regulus had ever been to.
“So, Chinese for dinner?” James asked, sliding his hand into Regulus’s again. Regulus nodded at him as he took a bite of the chocolate cake James handed him. He let out a groan.
“It’s the best, right?” Remus said, grinning at him. Regulus had no words, so continued to nod as he took another bite.

Disaster Lineage Timeline and Ages
Here is a Disaster Lineage timeline that actually makes sense and includes all members, plus their relative ages for each event. For all my fic writers who also get a headache trying to figure them out.
I tried my best to keep the relative ages the same as what Canon or Legends gives us with 2 exceptions (Xanatos and Komari). So while the dates may not be canon accurate for becoming a padawan or Knighting, their ages are. The grey cells mark how old the person was when they died.
I've given permission for this to be on the SW Reference wiki. Here!
Enjoy and hope you have fun with it! Detailed explanations for birth-date changes below the cut!
Buckle in Folks.
OK, so Dooku must be aged up minimum 5 years in order to train Rael before Qui-Gon and so Qui-Gon can train Feemor and Xanatos before Obi-Wan. Rael has to be at least 10 years older than Qui-Gon so that he can be knighted when Qui-Gon is padawan age. Canon has Dooku take on Rael at 22 so I kept that cause it's funny and that means Dooku has to be older than his canon birthday of 102BBY to fit both in.
Neither of Qui-Gon's birthdays work if you want to fit the other lineage members in. This is not at all annoying. 80BBY(canon) has him too young to train both Feemor and Xanatos before Obi-Wan and 92BBY(legends) has him being 17 when he becomes a padawan if Dooku trains Rael before him. 86BBY is my magical average that just barely works. I use fanon that Qui-Gon takes over Feemor's training cause it's the only way to fit him in without making Qui-Gon too old, thus domino-affecting Rael and Dooku.
Does this mean the 4 of them are all knighted between ages 21-23? Yes? Is that insane? Yes, but alas it's the only way I could make the timeline work.
Komari is the only birth-date I've moved for non-math reasons, her actual birthday is 62BBY, same as Nim, but that makes her 18 at Galidraan and I felt that was too young personally. (She kills 20 Mandos singlehandedly there. yeah. wtf)
Xanatos's birthday and death date are the same but I made him older when he fell because Legends has him as 16 and that really feels too young, especially since he was considered for the goddamn Knight Trials when he fell and we know Anakin was considered exceptionally young when he was knighted at 19. It makes for some nice parallels between them. Plus all the shit Xanatos gets up to after he runs off, he should be a little older to pull it off.

ONE: ok guys here’s an arc about mob, in his growth as a person, being confronted with an ideology he’s unfamiliar with, and he has to learn from it but also understand why it’s unhealthy and bad to properly grow from it and choose kindness in the end, albeit in a more nuanced way than before, and this will make mob more able to confront later problems in the season that can’t be solved with mere kindness and require a deep understanding of loneliness and solitude, something he hasn’t had much room to speak on until now. To express mob being shown this villain’s ideology we have a sequence where we see how mogami views the world and by extension how he sees mob, by putting mob in the kind of sad fucked up world he thinks exists, but mob will overcome it with the knowledge that in the real world he has people he cares about and that even the people who make the world bad sometimes can change and nobody is a static evil and kindness and courage when you’re going through hardship goes a long way. despite the darkness this is ultimately a very uplifting experience for him and a show that life is always more than its darkest moments, and also how picking yourself up instead of wallowing in your own suffering and trauma is hard but a very courageous act and what makes mob stronger than mogami
mp100 fans with tunnel vision: Oh so mob was tortured for six months and is sad? He’s literally so sad and traumatized and nobody is talking about this?

I think that mad men being visually stunning in so many different ways has created some kind of wall a lot of people can't get through to truly appreciate the writing and acting. idk how to explain it but so many people seem to have cordoned it off into a separate zone of appreciation. people want to look at it but they don't want to watch it

when the same people who wouldn't shut up about you giving too much to everyone and asking you to hold back start complaining that you seem more reserved and don't have the same love and joy for the world and everyone in it as you used to once you actually take their advice...I fucking called it. I knew I should've trusted my gut. I'm not built for holding back and rationing my love and being careful with my heart. I have a big fucking heart and my love isn't expendable it grows the more of it I give and im built to love strangers and listen to people's stories and hold little parts of them in me wherever I go. I'm tired of being careful. I love people and yeah I keep getting my heart broken but it grows back bigger and stronger every time. I wouldn't trade the experiences for anything. im built to be a best friend to whoever needs me because that's what gives me joy. not all of it is a transaction and its okay if everyone doesn't return my love and kindness with the same intensity. im not doing it for a reward. im doing it because knowing a person for however long is a unique and beautiful experience and the reward in itself. I fucking love people you're the reason I want to live

the brilliance of mystery spot, in the canon of famous time loops, is that your ordinary time loop ending is like, the final thing that the characters need to solve or defeat in the story in order to move on. in mystery spot, the time loop ends halfway through the episode and then things stop being fun in any way and just get a thousand times worse . the time loop was a lesson, punishment, ironic/poetic situation, sure, but in its own repetitive way it was also protecting the characters, keeping them from having to face the consequences by always resetting them to a time before disaster strikes. breaking out of the loop only makes disaster more permanent, and then you find out that they're just in a longer version of the loop

tell me about your correct opinions. I love hearing opinions...
Honestly I can't think of any specifics rn hdggjndg I just know I am a Nishikiyama Understander. I think one off the top of my head is that yes, he's clearly more emotional than others, but he is not remarkably so and he is NOT a 'crybaby'. Like every time he's cried on screen it's been for very understandable reasons and in highly emotional situations.
Or the idea that him not reciprocating Reina's feelings is like, an inherent character flaw??
#smol responds#dont get me started on k_zum_ji i will appear to be such a hater and im NOT i SWEAR its just i dont think theyre built for a cutesy domesti#relationship theyre FUCKED okay aaaand im gonna shut up they WILL kill me xgmdkg#also my opinions on the first half of the ship on his own cause like i KNOW he's beloved i KNOW his heart is in the right place but GODDDDD#HE PISSES ME OFFFFF and part of my frustration comes from the fact I recognise myself in him and it hurts man!!! We Cannot Keep Doing This!#Maybe one day I'll collect my Discord ramblings together fsjjf also i realise how full of myself i sound??#in that im not just a Fan but an Understander cause i do feel there's a difference. Its like with my bestie she loves this one character#and other people call themselves the no. 1 fan and i believe em i think she's the true Understander though yknow?#classic 'i love this guy AND i see how he really sucks and i love that' and she says im the same with Nishiki#I see his flaws man and i get em i SEE where he got this from but im bot disliking him as some 'incel niceguy' like its not a common take#but ive seen it a couple times and im like are you stupid??? hes not some wifebeater?? are you daft?? no he shouldnt have slapped her#but if your takeaway from that is 'he hates women' or some shit you might be a fool. Shoutout Atanx for that very correct post a while back#sorry turns out i DO have opinions lmao basically Nishiki Is Mine Yall Cant Have Him zfhzfn#WAIT MY MIREI OPINIONS- [i am dragged away once more]

If you search up chazuke/ochazuke recipes on YouTube and look through the comment section, you'll find so many comments talking about Atsushi, so please consider:
Actor AU characters are favorite foods becoming trends and perhaps having their own fan base. Any time an actor is like, "I like this food," there will be a cult for thar specific food or brand. Countless videos cooking/baking and taste famous actor's foods. Atsushi loves when fans or cooks give their own twists on chazuke and try them out. Dazai's obsession with canned crab from one specific company turns into him becoming the face of the company's logo. Chuuya as a wine ambassador for different companies. I just think it would be funny if get the vocaloid treatment with their favorite foods.
On a sskk note: i like to think both atsushi and akutagawa, growing up poor, despite having the money for luxurious meals and lavish dining, still have humble tastebuds. Atsushi enjoys chazuke specifically from this one small, humble little resturant run by a little old lady rather than fancy places. Where I come from tea vendors are a thing, similar to street food stalls/vendors, where they brew hot tea for cheap, and I think many people would be surprised to find Akutagawa prefers tea from the run down, unhygienic, and less frequented alleyways of the slums where he grew up in. Perfect places for dates in disguise or when the paparazzis are too afraid to follow them
[sskk actors au] Oh my God I can totally see that, thank you so much for the prompts these are glorious 😭😭😭 Dazai and Chuuya's actors being food companies ambassadors is fantastic, Chuuya would look fabulous accompanied by his fancy wine and Dazai associating himself to a canned crab company is the perfect kind of chaotic thing you just know Dazai would totally be up for.
I do agree sskk would stay humble even after reaching financial stability, and that counts for canon as well!!! For Atsushi it's something close to a guilt thing that stuck with him even after having forgotten the guilt, for Akutagawa it's more of a being quite close minded and not understanding the utility of most things, but I agree overall they'd stay pretty frugal. I fell in love with the concept of Akutagawa frequenting tea vendors you mentioned. In a twisted way, it's the familiarity of his childhood, because even where it was constantly pain ridden it is his childhood and there's some sort of sweetness in being able to drink the tea he used to consume with his friends in the slums, savoring the lingering taste of something that used to be a rare luxury and to that day still feels most precious. The reminiscing the few happy memories he has left from those times. This is really an excellent headcanon, I adore it. And how eventually he'd want to share that piece of his life with Atsushi 😭😭😭

also its really fucking telling that you think lesbian = terf. trans men and cis men cannot be lesbians. lesbians do not and cannot fuck cis/trans men. really insane that y’all see anything about lesbianism excluding men and automatically think it’s about.. women? i don’t know why y’all are so fucking obsessed with weaseling your way into a sexuality and gender identity that is exclusive of men, it’s almost like you hate it when ppl want to be away from them. lol
Oh it’s the TERF again lol.
I don’t associate lesbians with TERFs, but responding to someone mentioning trans issues with essentially “god forbid lesbians have anything” is the most obvious TERF calling card you could leave because we weren’t even talking about lesbians.

I have this thing that happens with longer personal writing projects where I go, “what would the query letter to an agent look like” - partially bc I’m a creature of habit and want to publish everything, partially because fits about focusing on the through line and can help me figure out the core of the project.
And right now it’s very much like, why should anyone care about my lil guys? What are their journeys and what is compelling enough to encourage people to go beyond the first paragraph, let alone the first page?
Which in turn leads to the question of like, why am I compelled by these stupid guys?
And honestly, it’s because I sat them down and gave them my issues and pushed them to the point of absurdity and said “go live with that for a while and get back to me” and now they’re fucked up in some pretty fun ways and I like writing about the hopes and fears that it inspires
But I’m still like, questioning why anyone else would care about this, beyond the queer rep

In the mid-19th century, socialism and communism were largely synonymous, and as often as not they referred to the dream of a future without all the institutions at the service of bankers, landlords, and factory owners; a future without the State. Since Marxism crowded out the utopian variations of socialism, however, the term has come to refer to the authoritarian shift in the international anticapitalist movement.
[...] This brings us to their primary weaknesses, which, ironically, are also interrelated and also connected to their class and subjective relationships to the workers’ movements that they did more to weaken and destroy than the police agencies of most contemporary governments.
All of their hypotheses about causation and order—where these oppressions come from, how they will change, how to change them—are worse than trash. They are either phrased in a way that is pseudo-scientific and untestable, which helps explain why Marxism has held increasing appeal among leftwing cults the more Marxist experiments proved to be real life failures (cults thrive on pseudo-sciences). Or, their affirmations about the future of capitalism and how to change it that were phrased in a falsifiable, testable way have all proven dreadfully wrong. Exactly as their anarchist contemporaries predicted.
[...] Many of us, perhaps most of us, will not get another chance for a revolution, for creating a world meant for life and not for the extraction of profit and power. We had a real shot a century ago, and we blew it. Since then, the hour has grown very late. Despite this, or likely intoxicated by the sense of urgency, many of us have forgotten our history and are turning again to the false promises of the State, in the forms of progressive, charismatic politicians, ecosocialism or eco-Leninism, the Trotskyist or Stalinist sects that have begun proliferating again, or the crypto-authoritarianism of the latest new cult of grad students who think they know better."
[...] It’s not too late, though. To recover our memory of generations of struggle. To learn from our recent setbacks. To discover ways to help as many of us as possible to survive the inferno that capitalism has become. The State is a machine for controlling and exploiting a society. It has no other function, any more than a car can grow strawberries or make milkshakes.
But communities of living beings acting in solidarity? No one is better positioned to define survival and to achieve it. Survival, and life, and joy, and healing.
