what are your suggestions for starter poetry for people who dont have strong reading/analysis backgrounds
I've answered this a few times so I'm going to compile and expand them all into one post here.
I think if you haven't read much poetry before or aren't sure of your own tastes yet, then poetry anthologies are a great place to start: many of them will have a unifying theme so you can hone in based on a subject that interests you, or pick your way through something more general. I haven't read all of the ones below, but I have read most of them; the rest I came across in my own readings and added to my list either because I like the concept or am familiar with the editor(s) / their work:
Staying Alive: Real Poems for Unreal Times (ed. Nick Astley) & Being Alive: The Sequel to Staying Alive (there's two more books in this series, but I'm recommending these two just because it's where I started)
The Rattlebag (ed. Seamus Heaney and Ted Hughes)
The Ecco Anthology of International Poetry (ed. Ilya Kaminsky & Susan Harris)
The Essential Haiku, Versions of Basho, Buson and Issa (ed. Robert Hass)
A Book of Luminous Things (ed. Czesław Miłosz )
Now and Then: The Poet's Choice Columns by Robert Hass (this may be a good place to start if you're also looking for commentary on the poems themselves)
Poetry Unbound: 50 Poems to Open Your World(ed. Pádraig Ó'Tuama)
African American Poetry: 250 Years of Struggle and Song (ed. Kevin Young)
The Art of Losing: Poems of Grief and Healing (ed. Kevin Young)
Lifelines: Letters from Famous People about their Favourite Poems
The following lists are authors I love in one regard or another and is a small mix of different styles / time periods which I think are still fairly accessible regardless of what your reading background is! It's be no means exhaustice but hopefully it gives you even just a small glimpse of the range that's available so you can branch off and explore for yourself if any particular work speaks to you.
But in any case, for individual collections, I would try:
anything by Sara Teasdale
Devotions / Wild Geese / Felicity by Mary Oliver
Selected Poems and Prose by Christina Rossetti
Collected Poems by Langston Hughes
Where the Sidewalk Endsby Shel Silverstein
Morning Haiku by Sonia Sanchez
Revolutionary Letters, Diane di Prima
Concerning the Book That Is the Body of the Beloved by Gregory Orr
Rose: Poems by Li-Young Lee
A Red Cherry on a White-Tiled Floor / Barefoot Souls by Maram al-Masri
Deaf Republic by Ilya Kaminsky
Tell Me: Poems / What is This Thing Called Love? by Kim Addonizio
The Trouble with Poetry by Billy Collins (Billy Collins is THE go-to for accessible / beginner poetry in my view so I think any of his collections would probably do)
Crush by Richard Siken
Rapture / The World's Wife by Carol Ann Duffy
The War Works Hard by Dunya Mikhail
Selected Poems by Walt Whitman
View with a Grain of Sand by Wislawa Szymborska
Collected Poems by Vasko Popa
Under Milkwood by Dylan Thomas (this is a play, but Thomas is a poet and the language & structure is definitely poetic to me)
Bright Dead Things: Poems by Ada Limón
Teaching My Mother How to Give Birth by Warsan Shire,
Nostalgia, My Enemy: Selected Poems by Saadi Youssef
As for individual poems:
“Wild Geese” by Mary Oliver
[Dear The Vatican] erasure poem by Pádraig Ó'Tuama // "The Pedagogy of Conflict"
"Good Bones" by Maggie Smith
"The Author Writes the First Draft of His Weddings Vows (An erasure of Virginia Woolf's suicide letter to her husband, Leonard)" by Hanif Abdurraqib

"Try to Praise the Mutilated World" by Adam Zagajewski
"The Cinnamon Peeler" by Michael Ondaatje
"Last Night I Dreamed I Made Myself" by Paige Lewis
"A Dream Within a Dream" // "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe (highly recommend reading the last one out loud or listening to it recited)
"Ars Poetica?" // "Encounter" // "A Song on the End of the World"by Czeslaw Milosz
"Wandering Around an Albequerque Airport Terminal” // "Two Countries” // "Kindness” by Naoimi Shihab Nye
"Slow Dance” by Matthew Dickman
"The Archipelago of Kisses" // "The Quiet World" by Jeffrey McDaniel
"Mimesis" by Fady Joudah
"The Great Fires" // "The Forgotten Dialect of the Heart" // "Failing and Flying" by Jack Gilbert
"The Mermaid" // "Virtuosi" by Lisel Mueller
"Macrophobia (Fear of Waiting)" by Jamaal May
"Someday I'll Love Ocean Vuong" by Ocean Vuong
"Still I Rise" by Maya Angelou
I would also recommend spending some times with essays, interviews, or other non-fiction, creative or otherwise (especially by other poets) if you want to broaden and improve how you read poetry; they can help give you a wider idea of the landscape behind and beyond the actual poems themselves, or even just let you acquaint yourself with how particular writers see and describe things in the world around them. The following are some of my favourites:
Upstream: Essays by Mary Oliver
"Theory and Play of the Duende" by Federico García Lorca
"The White Bird" and "Some Notes on Song" by John Berger
In That Great River: A Notebook by Anna Kamienska
A Little Devil in America: Notes in Praise of Black Performance by Hanif Abdurraqib
The Book of Delights by Ross Gay
"Of Strangeness That Wakes Us" and "Still Dancing: An Interview with Ilya Kaminsky" by Ilya Kaminsky
"The Sentence is a Lonely Place" by Garielle Lutz
Still Life with Oysters and Lemon by Mark Doty
Paris, When It's Naked by Etel Adnan

Village Boy x Fem civil servant reader
《Beloved's Veil》
Tumblr media
(Warnings: will have themes like possession/horror and abuse) This story will have more than two parts, so enjoy🌼
"Do you like it this far, Ma'am? The village?" Odai’s voice cut through the soft hum of the engine, drawing your gaze to the rearview mirror where his eyes met yours.
"Yes, it’s quite peaceful. I've never lived in a village before."
"You’ll love it, Ma’am. It’s indeed peaceful, which is good for someone like you who enjoys working in a calm environment. The beauty here adds more to the experience." He smiled, his eyes glinting with nostalgia. "This is my second time here. I once drove the Commissioner on a visit. The people are kind too."
"Mhm." You nodded thoughtfully as Odai slowed the car down on a narrow street. Your eyes wandered, taking in the surroundings--quaint homes with old wooden doors, vibrant rugs hung on balconies, and villagers watching the car with curious eyes. "But even the smallest villages have their dark sides. Crime, hardship--they exist everywhere."
"Indeed, ma'am." Odai's voice took on a more serious edge. "I kept news of your arrival under wraps, which is why no one's gathering around our cars." You glanced back at the security vehicle trailing behind, steady and unobtrusive.
"Good," you mused, lighting a cigarette, the flicker of the flame momentarily catching your gaze. "Maybe they are not happy to get a new DC so soon." You chuckled softly, exhaling smoke into the still air. "And what about the other task I gave you? Judging by those wary glances, it might be working."
"Yes, ma'am. I handled it." You'd instructed Odai to spread rumors before your arrival, whispers about your uncompromising nature--how you were a stickler for the law, an officer with unshakeable honesty. It was a strategy you'd wanted to test, a way to plant seeds before even setting foot in Al Razeh. Spread your roots before you even step into the territory, you thought with quiet satisfaction, watching the smoke curl and dissipate into the air, like invisible tendrils laying claim to the village before you.
You, (Y/n), had just been appointed as the Deputy Commissioner, DC, of a district called Kamandik, and your new office--and residence--was nestled in the village of Al-Razeh. It was a quiet place, far from the hustle of the city, a change you welcomed after the long, exhausting journey. Coming from a distinguished family, it almost seemed like destiny had led you to this path. Your lineage boasted army officers, doctors, and civil servants. Your father, a retired military man, had served with distinction, and your mother, an army doctor, had met him through her service. It was that kind of background that had built your discipline and drive.
"Is the Assistant Commissioner going to be there?" you asked, gazing out at the unfamiliar landscape as you approached.
"He will arrive tomorrow, ma'am. His flight got cancelled for today." Odai replied.
Good. You felt a sense of relief. One less formality for today. You leaned back into the seat, letting the exhaustion sink in, already imagining the stillness of your new residence awaiting you.

"But I want you to work with me, my son," the old man said, his shivering hands reaching out as his weak, but soft gaze fell upon his youngest. Habib--the kindest, gentlest, and most beautiful of his sons--stood there, looking down at his father. His pale green eyes and thin, golden locks were a wonder, something the village marveled at since his birth. His father, prayed each day that God would grant his son a life as beautiful as he appeared, for Habib had known nothing but pain because of this beauty--this curse.
"Baba, you know they don’t want me to," Habib began, his voice barely a whisper, catching in his throat before it could fully form. The familiar heaviness of his situation silenced him completely as soon as his oldest brother, Basim, strode into the room with an air of command.
"Baba, how many times must we go through this?" Basim’s voice cut through the room like a blade. "I told you--he is not working, and that’s final!"
"He is going to work in the store I go to! With me! He has to do something."
"Him? Are you serious? " Kadir despite being not having the desired strength at the moment stood up from the bed and Habib immediately supported him, his own eyes casted down in his brother's presence.
"Basim, you seem to forget that I am still alive," Kadir said, his voice low but firm, "and I am very much capable of making decisions for this house. Do you hear me?" His words hung in the air, heavy with authority, and Basim, eyes flickering between his father and younger brother, clenched his jaw before storming out of the room, leaving a tense silence in his wake.
Habib finally exhaled the breath he'd been holding, his shoulders sagging slightly. "Don’t be afraid, son," Kadir soothed, resting a reassuring hand on his son's cheek. "I’m here for you. I will always be."
Habib nodded, pressing his lips softly to his father’s weathered fingers. "Just follow what I tell you in the shop," Kadir continued, "and you’ll learn the work in no time."
Outwardly, the Jafaris appeared to be a humble, respectable family--Kadir himself was a respected elder in the community, with his two eldest sons already married. But beneath the surface, the Jafaris were infamous. And though it seemed like many things, perhaps the real reason for the rumors that clung to them like shadows was just one thing--Habib.
Tumblr media
Habib woke with a start, his heart pounding as he scanned his dimly lit bedroom. The narrow terrace window was open, a detail he couldn't remember opening himself. No, wait, he had opened it earlier, hadn't he? The memory was foggy. He looked down at the book in his lap, the dim light from the terrace lamp casting strange shadows around the room. Quickly, he turned on the side lamp, its bright light offering a small sense of relief.
He ran his fingers over the pages of The Book of Kings. The words seemed to mirror his own sorrow: “On my heart, this pain and sorrow are so abundant, in mourning for you, the assault on my anxious heart is endless. O heart, you are with me, but you constantly mourn the lost beloved. Every day, we remember you, and at night, we weep for your love, as if my heart cannot reach any solace from your absence and this pain has no remedy.”
Indeed, there seemed to be no remedy. The ache and torment felt as fresh and unyielding as if it had happened just yesterday.
His footsteps were light as he stepped out of his chamber, and with a whispered prayer, he made his way to the kitchen. It was 10 p.m., and most people had gone to bed by 9. He had missed dinner once again. The worried faces of his parents flashed through his mind, contrasting sharply with the indifferent expressions of his brothers.
As he approached the dishes stacked in a corner--likely left there by his mother--he began to prepare his plate. Suddenly, a chill ran down his spine, and the hairs on the back of his neck stood on end, signaling someone's presence behind him.
'No, please-'
The words of the cleric, Nazim, echoed in his mind: “Remember, my boy, never be afraid of anything, for these things feed on fear.” Despite the reminder, he remained paralyzed, his fear not only of the unknown but also of the possibility that it might be Basim, who wasn’t pleased with what Father had said earlier.
The plate in his hand nearly dropped when the person touched him. "God!--Uncle, it’s me, it’s me, Rahim. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you...""
"It’s alright, Rahim." The teenager, Rahim, was the son of Basim, his oldest nephew, and also his best friend. "Why are you awake?"
Rahim smirked and leaned against the counter. "Just couldn’t sleep," his playful demeanor shifted to concern as he took in his young uncle’s appearance. "Uncle... were you sick again?"
"I’m always sick, nothing to worry about."
"You should take better care of yourself. I worry about you. And..." Rahim hesitated, "I doubt that--"
"Rahim, I’m fine. And no, it’s gone. Long gone. Believe me. I’m just... going through some side effects."
"Wow, all that pain and now side effects too, even when you’re free from it? It’s been years! You should see an actual doctor." Rahim was just a toddler when his uncle was afflicted in a way he never imagined possible. Yet, he remembered it all like a vivid nightmare.
"Rahim, please. I am fine," Habib reassured, his voice soft but firm, trying to mask the lingering shadows of his past.
The boy decided to drop the topic for now with an unconvinced sigh. "I brought those pastries you love."
"Why?! You know Brother Basim--"
"Uncle, please. It’s my pocket money, and I get to buy whatever I want for whoever I want." Rahim smiled, and Habib couldn’t help but chuckle, the sound light and comforting in the quiet of the kitchen.
Rahim’s grin widened. He always loved seeing his uncle, who was more like an older brother to him, happy. "Shall I make tea?"
"No, I'll make it. I don't want you waking the whole house."
The two chatted softly, the kitchen door closed to keep their voices from carrying. Basim would be furious if he knew they were up.
"Oh, how could I forget to tell you! When me and my friends were playing, we saw the new DC’s car. She’s here. And from what we’ve heard, she’s very upright and strict too. Which I think is a good thing, considering the previous one was lousy as hell."
"We’ve never had a female DC before, have we?" Habib wondered aloud, trying to recall if he had ever seen any officer around or remembered the last DC’s name.
"Um, no. And do you know her bungalow walls are so high, you can’t see past them! Imagine how cool it must be from the inside. Plus, all the cameras and stuff, which I heard they’re going to put around the village too."
"Mhm, nice." Habib nodded, his smile fading slightly as he sipped his tea. The conversation about the new DC and the changes in the village did little to distract him from the quiet sadness that lingered in his heart.

𝟛𝟘 𝕪𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕤 𝕠𝕗 𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝕃𝕚𝕠𝕟 𝕂𝕚𝕟𝕘 🦁💛
The Lion King has been my favourite movie for as long as I can remember.
I don't recall the very first time I watched The Lion King because I was still chilling in the womb 30 years ago and I was just one month old when it came out on VHS but Disney movies were constantly playing in our house thanks to my siblings.
However, every time I hear the opening score, I'm instantly transported back to being four years old, sitting on the floor of our blue-themed living room, watching The Lion King. I vividly remember the moment when the mother and baby giraffe step into the sun.
Tumblr media
Nostalgia is powerful!! The Circle of Life, with its expressive music, serves as a strong trigger for my childhood memories.
Honestly, I struggle to get through the intro without shedding a tear. a reminder of how formative experiences and powerful storytelling can impact our emotions throughout our lives and we're only 4 minutes in! Yet those 4 minutes feature some of the most beautiful and well-crafted animation and storytelling ever, in my opinion.
The story of Simba resonated with me deeply. I was particularly drawn to Simba’s journey of self-discovery and the lessons he learned about bravery, grief, and responsibility. I admired Mufasa's wisdom and strength, and I found Timon and Pumbaa's carefree attitude both funny and comforting.
The Lion King was probably one of my first major hyperfixations.
When I was around 8-10 years old, my nighttime routine involved watching The Lion King and Simba's Pride before bed every night, always remembering to rewind the VHS ready for the next day.
It was around this time, I first gained access to the Internet. One of the first things I searched for was The Lion King. I discovered lionking.org and its fanart sister site, realising that many others also loved this movie just as much as me.
I was too young to really communicate with anyone at the time, but I admired from afar, which made me feel less alone. When I discovered Tumblr many years later you bet I created my own Lion King fan page which is still up to this day for archiving and memory purposes.
If not for The Lion King, I wouldn't have made some lifelong international connections and friendships.
Whenever I felt down, lonely, anxious, or afraid, The Lion King was there to support me.
The Lion King taught me many lessons about life and death, the importance of facing one’s past.
This movie didn’t just entertain me; it also shaped me.
Most people see The Lion King as just a cartoon for kids, I view it as a work of art, showcasing the beauty of animation, music, and storytelling. Beyond the visuals, the story behind its creation is a testament to the power of passion, dedication, and hard work.
Initially, many at Disney underestimated the film, doubting its potential. Many top animators chose to work on Pocahontas, believing it would be superior. The Lion King was crafted by junior animators who believed in the project, and despite the, it became a beloved classic.
It remains a timeless movie that I will always cherish, not just for its beautiful animation and music, but for the profound impact it has had on my life.
The Lion King taught me that it's okay for things to change and to grow older. It showed me that ignoring your past will only hurt you in the long run and that it's better to address and learn from it rather than pretend it didn't happen.
Ultimately , The Lion King is about finding one's place in the world, something I'm still working on.
It's been an absolute pleasure to grow up alongside this beautiful movie.

What fans say:
Rise of the Guardians:
It's a fun story with good writing and really interesting characters.
I was drawn in by the white haired anime boy when the trailers first dropped, I was further drawn in by the fact that he was also dead (Hurt/comfort angst potential is HOUGH) But also the visuals are absolutely gorgeous and I fell in love with the story of hope and faith and of wanting to be seen. It's such a wholesome movie and I've watched it repeatedly when it came out in theatres. Did I also mention the SOUNDTRACK?! ACK-! I love it!!!
I was here when this film was HUGE on Tumblr and I get so much nostalgia over it, sure, it was a little cringe*, but I had fun and that's what matters <3
The Emperor's New Groove:
Funny, memorable, guy turns into a llama.
This bad boy can fit so many memes! A great movie. Really good story about empathy. Fantastic villain. Fun family dynamics. The main character is FLAMBOYANT. Kronk is in this. I don't know what else you could possibly want. Oh yes, 2D animation my beloved.
The movie has a pretty silly concept but still contains plenty of heart and themes of cooperation and friendship. Plus all of the characters are iconic. They tend to be just a little bit horrible but still loveable (or at least extremely entertaining to watch).
I have loved this movie for 20 years; like 10 years ago I managed to convert my mom and now it’s our Thanksgiving movie. Infinitely quotable. The fact that Patrick Warburton is genuinely so tone-deaf that Kronk’s humming of the Mission: Impossible theme is UNRECOGNIZABLE.
Has the best character development of all time and also a himbo who likes to cook and Eartha Kitt!! my brother and i would always watch this movie on road trips it’s iconic and the best scene is definitely when Kuzco wakes up as a llama in the countryside and both he and Pacha freak the hell out and Kuzco goes “LLAMA FAAAAAACE” it is HILARIOUS amazing movie fr
It’s so well done! The voice acting is great, the whole movie is campy and fun, and it’s a movie about learning to care about other people.
*Mod note: we embrace the cringe in this house.

Re-living my childhood and working on doing a fashion history spam of the American Girl dolls!
Oh my god I can’t begin to tell you what a huge part of my childhood those dolls were. Before I go on, let me clarify my family’s financial circumstance growing up: I was a pretty solidly middle-class only child. I definitely wasn’t rich, but my mom was willing to spend a lot of money on buying me a shitload of American Girl stuff because A.) she thought they were cool, and B.) they provided a much smarter alternative to Barbies. And when I grew up and got too old for them, I was able to give my stuff over to my younger cousins.
Looking at what the brand has to offer now, it’s pretty clear that the brand has changed over time and that the emphasis has gone from the historical dolls to the modern ones. Honestly, that’s not a 100% terrible thing. I fully embrace change as a part of the universe, and if it’s a part of the survival of the brand, so be it. As long as the historical dolls remain in tact and the brand integrity is respected. And for the most part, until very recent years, it looks like it has been.
Mattel bought the American Girl brand in 1998, and from then on, you can see the brand shifting away from the original five dolls. I’m going to get waaay more into this with the spam, but really, the historical dolls until very recently have actually remained pretty great. If there’s one really broad critique I could give, it’s that the overall color palette skews towards the modern, with a lot of very bright colors and a heavy emphasis on pink, but when taken individually, the pieces remain very accurate.
HERE’S THE THING! In 2016, a new historical girl was released: Maryellen, repping the 1950s. She’s blonde and has blue eyes, following shortly on Julie, who repped the 1970s and also had blonde hair and blue eyes. You can kind of see a theme developing here. The girls from the 30s, 50, 70s, 80s, and 90s are all blonde with blue eyes. You’d think that girls in the 20th century were only blondes. But anyway I’m getting away from the point. Maryellen was released with only TWO books! The fuck?! Maryellen’s collection remained the same very immersive collection that I love about the brand, but clearly, shit’s changing.
The next historical dolls, Nenea (repping Hawaii after Pearl Harbor), Melody (repping Black girls, Motown, and civil rights in the 60s), Courtney (repping blonde hair blue eyed girls with 80s nostalgia and very little historical engagement), Claudie, (Black girl in the 1920s Harlem Renaissance) and Isabelle and Nicki (again blonde girls repping 90s nostalgia with little historical engagement) all only have two books. The brand has LITERALLY been diminished. The books were an equally important part of the playset, not only providing context for the garments and objects you were playing with, providing REAL, often complex lessons about history, making history feel real and relatable, but they fleshed out the girls, their lives, and the worlds they lived in. They made what you were playing with more than just a playset, more than just a dollhouse or Barbie accessories, they were a whole universe for girls to explore.
Like I said at the beginning, I didn’t grow up rich. I definitely had more privilege than others out there, but I still wasn’t the rich kid villain from a 90s kids movie. I had a lot of American Girl shit because my mom saw the value in the brand and was willing to spend a lot of money on it in a way that she wouldn’t be willing to spend a lot of money on Barbies.
Honestly, I don’t know the toy industry, I don’t know what little girls today want out of their dolls. I know that times change, and that what’s beloved in one generation isn’t necessarily going to be carry over to the next. But I find it hard to believe that little girls straight up no longer are interested in history, and that moms no longer want to give their daughters toys that will actually teach them things. I’ve read a lot of articles about how the brand is struggling, and I don’t think it’s a generational divide. Mattel has fucked up the brand, and I am not just saying that out of Boomer toxic nostalgia that says that everything from the past is GOOD, everything today is BAD, and that anything that changes is inherently not only bad but a personal insult. The stuff that made these expensive dolls worth buying just isn’t there.

John Lennon X Insomniac!Reader - Midnight Memories 💤
Tumblr media
(here is John's version of the previous prompt requested by anon!! hope you all are having a lovely day or night, wherever you are ✨️)
☆☆☆
John sat cross-legged at his desk, surrounded by scattered sheets of paper and pencil shavings. His fingers danced across the blank page of his workbook, sketching out intricate designs that seemed to materialize from the depths of his imagination.
He rubbed his tired eyes, trying to shake off the fog of exhaustion that threatened to consume him. It was another sleepless night, the hours slipping away like sand through his fingers.
He glanced at the clock, the ever-moving hands seemingly mocking his plight. He knew he should try to rest, but his mind raced with thoughts and ideas, refusing to be silenced. With a frustrated sigh, he pushed himself away from the desk and wandered into the living room.
You were already there, curled up on the couch, the soft glow of the television illuminating the otherwise dark space as you flipped through the channels in search of something to watch. You were suddenly shaken from your dull trance by approaching footsteps. You turned your head to identify the source of the sound, your face drawn with the weight of sleeplessness.
John made his way to your side, perching on the arm of the couch and brushing a lock of hair from your forehead.
"You too, huh?" he asked, his voice tinged with sympathy.
You shook your head with a frustrated groan. "It's like my mind won't shut off."
With a determined nod and no hesitation, John reached for the remote, taking it in hand and aiming it at the television set. He browsed the pay-per-view catalog for only a moment before selecting a beloved classic, one that held a special place in both of your hearts.
As the familiar theme music filled the room, he settled himself on the couch, sinking into the cushions beside you. You curled up next to John, the warmth of his body a comforting presence in the dimly-lit room. Together, you lost yourselves in the world unfolding onscreen, the characters and storyline drawing you in with their timeless charm and offering a welcome distraction from the turmoil of your mind.
With each passing moment the weight of insomnia began to lift, replaced by a sense of nostalgia and familiarity. As dawn approached and the first rays of morning sunshine slipped through the curtains, you found yourself leaning against John's shoulder, the rhythm of his heartbeat a soothing panacea. The gentle hum of the TV droned on, guiding you ever closer to the elusive embrace of sleep.
After a while, John looked down to see your eyelids shut, a peaceful expression gracing your features.
"Sleep well, love," he whispered, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead.
As he watched you drift off into slumber at last, John felt a sense of calm wash over him and he settled further into the plush upholstery of the couch. He closed his eyes, letting the rhythm of onscreen dialogue carry him away as he realized that sometimes, the most meaningful moments happen when the rest of the world is fast asleep.

"What a wicked game you play, to make me feel this way What a wicked thing to do, to let me dream of you What a wicked thing to say, you never felt this way What a wicked thing to do, to make me dream of you And I don't wanna fall in love (this world is only gonna break your heart)"
You can't tell me that after reading this you didn't thought of Javier Fucking Peña.
Frankie Morales
Tumblr media
judge me but i see Frankie listening to Frank Ocean on off. and Pink + White intertwines themes of nostalgia, the inevitability of change, and the bittersweet nature of life. Also i picture Framkie listening to this remembering abou the happy moments he had with his friends.
Marcus Pike
Tumblr media
COME ON GUYS THIS IS HIS - AND ONLY HIS - SONG, the lyrics, instrumental, the feeling everything is Marcus Pike.
Our beloved hopeless romantic deserve this magestic song! i mean:
'Cause with your hand in my hand And a pocket full of soul I can tell you there's no place we couldn't go Just put your hand on the glass I'll be tryin' to pull you through You just gotta be strong
THIS SCREAMS MARCUS PIKE!!!!
Agent Whiskey
Tumblr media
You say it's big but you take it Ride cowgirl
THIS IS EASILY SOMETHIS JACK WOULD SAY LIKE COME ONNNNNN just imagine the scene, he's laying down on the bed while you are on his laps, both of you bare like the day you were born, his hands gripping your thighs sinking down on his cock throwing your head back murmuring.
"It's so big Jack"
He chuckles grabbing his cowboy hat from the bed headboard and place it in your head.
"You can say it's big but you take it, come on, ride cowgirl"
as he says he grabs your hips circling it while his cock is deep buried inside of you.
DAMN I JUST WROTE A LITTLE SMUT IN THIS, I LOST IT A BIG TIME AGO FOR THIS ONE.
Dieter Bravo
Tumblr media
We all know Dieter is very famous in The Bubble universe and he does every thing he can just because of this, and that is literally what the song says about, it tells you about doing every thing to be popular, and well Dieter already is so he is.... enjoying it(?.
Dieter loves attention, he loves the most part of what he can get about being famous.
Dave York
Tumblr media
If im not into this man than maybe he's haunting me, besides of being misterious and very hot he also have an interesting job that makes him even hotter.
Just listen to the song and i dare you to say that it doesn't remind you of him.
Din Djarin
Tumblr media
I feel like behind that helmet Din jus truly wanna be loved, like he could just forget about all his problems and focus on something else. For this one i don't really have an explanation i just feel it.
Oberyn Martell
Tumblr media
This song is the most pure lust you can ever hear, and everyone knows that Oberyn loves and enjoys sex, and this song.... OH MAN IF YOU REALLY EARNED IT IN HIS EYES YOU WOULD BE PRATICALY DEAD FROMPLEASURE THE MORNING AFTER.
He wouls make you go through - at least - 4 or more orgasms, this man won't settle for little, he wants you screaming his name, clawing at his back, begging for him, and after all of that he would give you a breath taking kiss and help you clean yourself.
Tumblr media
I hope that everyone who got here enjoyed! Feel free to comment your opinion :)

What No One Tells You About Writing 8— “Anyone can write a book”
Yes. But actually no. I say “writing is easy” in that it doesn’t take a degree and textbook learning to understand. You can get an English or lit degree if you want, but writing is incredibly subjective. It’s not even like an art degree that has you study different mediums and historical styles. “Writing is easy” in that it’s about feeling, and instinct, and a little bit of common sense. Anyone can do it in that it doesn’t take financial investment to start. Steal a tchotchke pen and paper from a hotel room—you’ve got all the tools you need. I have a communications degree and 9 years of experience, and I'm about to publish my first supernatural fantasy novel.
Writing is not easy, however, if any of the following applies to you:
You want to make enough money to do this full time
You want to appeal to mass audiences
You want to be a NYT bestseller**** or get an adaptation
You want to be regarded as the best of your generation and fill bookstore shelves
1. It takes a healthy dose of self-awareness and a reality check
I beta’d for an author who thought that he was comparable to GRRM, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire, because both have adult themes in their book and if GRRM can do it, why can’t he? The sheer vastness of the divide between ASOIAF and this awful, awful manuscript wasn’t worth putting into words for the amount I was being paid, though I tried.
Yes, you can write whatever you want. Yes, you can write to please yourself and stroke your ego. You can write the hammiest wish-fulfillment author insert that you desire. But you can’t expect anyone else to want to read or pay money for it. It’s great to have confidence as an author and envision your success, but starting right off the bat with “everyone will love this book because I’m really smart and I love this book” is only going to leave you bitter and penniless.
2. You might be an expert in your given field, doesn’t automatically make you an expert at storycrafting
I really, truly want the above godawful toe wart of a human (who tried to justify pedophilia in his book with the Israel-Palestine conflict) to stop featuring in my writing advice, but I know he’s not the only person out there who thinks like this. You might have a doctorate in engineering, medicine, political science, chemistry, physics, history, paleontology—any field you want. That does not mean you can successfully translate your expertise into a well-crafted and compelling narrative. It means you can write a college textbook lecturing your readers for 300 pages. Heck, if you can't explain what you do like I'm 5 years old, then you're not an expert in your field.
Elements of good storytelling include well-rounded characters, solid pacing, compelling themes and motifs, an engaging main conflict and character arcs and edge-of-your-seat action, romance, debates, and arguments. It’s so much more than “I’m going to write a textbook, but have my character tell it to you, and everyone will love it”.
They won’t.
3. “I’m gonna be a millionaire like JKR”
The frustrating thing about making money writing is that at the end of the day, you are still selling a product. Which means that it doesn’t matter how amazing you think it is, if it’s not what sells. The Fifty Shades series is hardly a poetic epic with deep, meaningful characters and themes, but it sold. It got adaptations. Why? Because it was a product people wanted and its writing style appeals to mass audiences who aren’t entertained by fluffy, antiquated prose. I hated the Divergent books. They soullessly and shamelessly fed off the success of Hunger Games. But they sold because “teen dystopia HP houses” was what audiences craved and what Hollywood was pushing to make movies out of.
Personally I don’t have any nostalgia for Harry Potter and I both wish I did so I could have one more beloved series and fandom to participate in, but also am glad I don’t because of JKR. HP is chock full of plot holes and “fuck it we’ll do it live” worldbuilding and so many concepts that look cool on paper until you really start thinking about it.
JKR didn’t make a million dollars because she wrote the greatest fantasy series. JKR made a million dollars because she wrote a book that sells every goddamn piece of lore for $15.99 or more and collects on all those sweet, sweet royalties. She understood that she’s selling a product, not just a story, selling everything from Slytherin ties and wizarding robes to golden snitches, sorting hats, wands, chocolate frogs, and every other prop seen in the movies.
You sure can chase trends and I’m sure Divergent is somebody’s favorite book and you can hock chocolate frogs. Everyone’s writing goals are different.
4. “But GRRM did it” (or, adhering to genre expectations)
Circling back to this one. Once again, you can write whatever you want, no one is stopping you. However, books are products and if what’s in the summary and on the cover isn’t what’s on the pages, you’re going to upset and annoy your readers. For example, if I slap a chiseled six-pack of man meat on my book cover with flowy calligraphy for the title that reads something like Sex and Pink Champagne and my summary is all about how protagonist girl gets the adonis of her dreams, you’re not going to be happy if, 200 pages in, the plot detours and Mr. Sexy fucks off to sell NFTs.
It doesn’t meet genre expectations.
GoT kicks off with incest and child defenestration. It tells you *exactly* what you’re getting into immediately. You can subvert plot expectations all you want. You can subvert tropes and archetypes and throw in all kinds of twists and turns. But if you’re writing a YA novel and 100 pages in after campfire songs and the power of friendship, Protagonist gets assaulted in a 7-11 parking lot because you wanted to be ~edgy~ you’re going to piss off your readers.
Take Mulan for example. It has a dramatic tonal shift so powerful, the musical stops being a musical because it’s traumatized. Mulan doesn’t drop in the grizzled and horrifying wasteland of a battlefield with thousands of dead soldiers in an episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. It’s already a war movie, the possibility is already there.
If you want to write adult content, then write a book for audiences who are prepared for and want to read adult content. Otherwise you’re setting yourself up for failure.
5. “Okay but it’s not entertaining”
Your first job as an author is to entertain (your second is to do it responsibly imo). There’s millions of books out there—why should someone read yours? Whether that’s entertainment through a feel-good romance or a gut-wrenching tragedy, you need to keep convincing your readers to stay invested in the story, otherwise they can and will put it down to read something else. No one is obligated to read your book to the end.
So, yeah your protagonist might have all the elements of your own personal tragedies and it sure is meaningful to you, but the way you wrote it is incredibly boring and no one will care. It might be the most brilliant heist plot ever conceived, but you focused on all the wrong elements, the pacing is whack, and your protagonist is annoying, so no one will read it.
Very few individual elements can be good enough to carry the entire manuscript and the likelihood of an author being really good at one thing and awful at the rest is slim. Readers can quit a book over the most arbitrary reasons. Do you want to die on a hill of “I’m not changing my annoying protagonist, I’m right and they will see”? They won’t. The arguments authors get into with me over how I hated their protagonist or I told them which parts were boring and dragged because I “didn’t understand the story” are pointless. If it’s boring or confusing or annoying, no one will read it.
6. First Drafts are drafts for a reason
Actually writing is less than half the time and effort spent on getting a book to publication. Probably less than a quarter. The rest of that time is spent editing and rewriting. Some first drafts will be better than others, not arguing that, but your first run through your story has a non-zero chance of needing revisions, even for something as small as typos and punctuation.
You have to edit for pacing and tonal shifts, erroneous details and entire scenes, character inconsistencies and goals. You have to make sure your conversations flow believably, that you hit every talking point that scene requires. You have to make sure your character’s motivations don’t create plot holes and that they’re always on track like a real person and not a creation of your imagination. You have to make sure your action scenes and sex scenes are legible and as thrilling for a reader as they are for you. You have to make sure your worldbuilding is consistent and logical and easy to understand.
Some people outline heavily before starting page one. Some people have a sticky note of “beginning middle end” and run off that. Some have whole folders of different documents to keep track of all their elements. Everyone’s writing process is different, but it is a process, not a one-and-done. It requires revisions, seeking feedback, implementing that feedback, and more revisions until it’s as good as it can be.
Yes, you need to edit. No, you’re not the writing god who penned perfection on your first try. Maybe a piece of your story is perfect on the first draft, but not the whole thing from start to finish. It’s okay that your story isn’t what you thought it would be when you started, and it’s no failing of you as a writer to need edits or even massive changes. It happens to everyone.
7. “Writing is easy, thus it’s not a real job”
Really the notion that creatives are lesser than corporate business people solving problems that their business created. But specifically for writing, the idea that it’s just putting words on a page, thus it’s easy and anyone can do it, so it’s not impressive or deserving of praise and you really need a real job (you probably will because writing doesn’t make much money for most people, but that’s just how it shakes out).
I know ENNS won’t appeal to everyone. I know there will be people who hate my characters, who don’t understand them or don’t agree with their philosophies or find my writing trite and too lean and not ~immersive~. I know there’ll be homophobes out there who won’t even read it but hear about it and make assumptions and will leave me crap reviews. I know it’s not the greatest supernatural fantasy novel ever written.
I’m not in it to make money or get a movie deal and see my merch all over the shelves and get my own theme park. I write so that even one reader might see themselves in my characters and know they’re not alone. So that even one reader has one of my characters as their favorite and that character motivates them to do the Thing or keep moving forward or be brave enough to finally do whatever they’ve been too afraid to attempt before. I want to help people, even if at the end of the day, my writing only helps myself.
Yes I need supplemental income (who doesn’t these days). It’s the way of the world. But I’m doing what I love in my free time and it is a real job because it takes work, and it might not have monetary value but its value to me is priceless.

7. why did you choose your header?
wanted it to fit the theme. also i adore the last twilight rooftop kiss, it's one of the brightest spots of the show
8. what’s your post with the most notes?
most likely this the untamed edit from 2020. i was truly living my peak back then :'D tbh i feel like the whole of tumblr was living its peak when the untamed was airing and when we all lost it together for the longest time after
9. how many mutuals do you have?
way too many and i adore all of them, tho i probably forget or cannot recognize most of them. especially if you've changed your url/main fandom OR i have, we might not even know each other anymore haha

more than i deserve and idk what all of you are even doing here but i like feeling like i'm part of some type of crowd ♥

15. how do you feel about ‘you need to reblog this’ posts
mostly i don't like doing things when am told to do them
16. do you like tag games?
yes! it always makes me happy to know that someone is thinking about me and i do find these a lot of fun to do ^^
17. do you like ask games?
also yes. i just don't often reblog those bc i don't really have a lot of interactions on this site. if i find an ask game with very interesting questions, i might forward it to kiddo @i-am-just-a-kiddo and we do it together privately to enjoy it like that ♥
18. which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous?
the first one that comes to mind is hanyi @ruanbaijie who i think deserves all the recognition for her absolutely amazing giffing skills ♥ she's also the sweetest so idk what's not to follow, make her even more famous if you can!
19. do you have a crush on a mutual?
nope. idk if i function like that tbh. i have some huge friend crushes tho and want to be closer with some ppl a lot! not mentioning names bc am shy haha
but i want to say that monica @stormyoceans is very important to me these days. she brightens up my days and makes my whole fandom experience so much better by simply being her enthusiastic and authentic self ♥ never change!
and also jessi @oswlld who i still cannot believe is someone i can call my friend and bestie on this site. i am so happy we've gotten to share bad buddy, vice versa, and last twilight together! also happy to hear about your life at times and to just share silly things with you ♥
third one i want to mention is shannen @icouldhyperfixatehim who always manages to stand out in a positive way. we don't interact much but i cannot help but feel very giddy about their presence on my dash. they leave the best tags and every time they reblog any of my edits with their tags, they manage to make me feel like i've made it and my edit was worth the effort :'D so thank you!
20. tags?
want to tag at least @psychic-waffles @foxofninetales @hils79 @sherrymagic @srnileforme and @thitiponqs ♥ also the ones i mentioned before are free to join and anyone else who wants to do this!

Tomorrow X Together on new music, US tour: 'Never expected' fans to show 'this much love'
Tumblr media
Members of Tomorrow X Together, the wildly popular K-pop group, have come of age during a rapid ascension in the music industry. Quickly after the quintet debuted in 2019, they started winning top awards and peaking on both Korean and American charts. Last year, the group's third album hit No. 3 on the Billboard 200, they headlined Lollapalooza and won a MTV Music Video Award.
Since their beginning, TXT's music has kept to the narrative of a boy's journey through life. As the members themselves have matured in the spotlight, the process of growing up has been influential for the discography.
Just as people reach reflection points on the cusp of moving from one part of life into the next, TXT's newest release, "minisode 3: TOMORROW," finds the guys contemplating their past and hoping for the future.
"This album is all about being reminded of the promises of the past and going on a search for 'you' who I shared a promise with," Taehyun, 22, told USA TODAY.
'minisode 3: TOMORROW' furthers Tomorrow X Together's narrative
This album is Tomorrow X Together's third under the "minisode" title. These releases have always been a bridge that connects the larger chapters in quintet's music.
As for "minisode 3: TOMORROW", it speaks about life and reality, said Soobin, 23, the group's leader.
The new album references Tomorrow X Together's prior moments, highlighting how nostalgia intersects with growth.
"We had a look back on some of the lyrics of our past songs and the music videos like 'Nap of a star'," said Taehyun. Lyrics in the lead single "Deja Vu" also give nods to some of the group's first singles "9 and Three Quarters (Run Away)" and "CROWN".
With this album, the members wanted to capture their unique identifying quality: Storytelling.
Over the years, the members have become more involved in the creative process, said Hueningkai, 21. "As we try and channel our honest, personal stories into the album, I think it helps me realize more and more who I am as an artist."
Understanding Tomorrow X Together's creative process
The members have become more ambitious when it comes to sharing their perspectives within their songs. "Rather than drawing inspiration from an outside source, I think it provided us with an opportunity to look back on our own lives," said Soobin.
"It's a crucial part that we cannot miss out on in order to make sure our stories more compelling and convincing," said Taehyun.
In particular "Deja Vu" is full of impact, said Beomgyu, 23, exhibiting "how much we've grown and how far we've come." The song infuses rage and emo rock, underscoring TXT's versatile sonic range.
Tumblr media
Tomorrow X Together US tour, reflecting on debut anniversary
In support the latest release, TXT is set to embark on its third US tour May 14. The group will be performing in eight cities including Los Angeles, New York City and Washington D.C.
The members are looking forward to seeing their fans and visiting cities they haven't been to yet. As for the shows, Beomgyu said there's "so much in store," adding, "I'm excited to show you guys what we have prepared."
The group celebrated its half-decade anniversary March 4. The last five years have been filled with many accomplishments and accolades. Stand-outs included performing at stadiums for Soobin to attending and performing at the MTV VMAs for Beomgyu.
Tumblr media
For Yeonjun, 24, he is thankful the members have made it safely to this point and he hopes to continue this in the future.
"The most important thing would be that we will still be together all the members and our beloved MOA," said Yeonjun. "My hope is that a decade into our debut, we would still be dancing and singing in front of our fans together."
On theme with "minisode 3: TOMORROW" and its reflection of the past, the members are proud of how far they have come.
"I never expected that I would end up receiving this much love and I think it's a huge blessing and I'm so grateful for that," said Yeonjun.

Hey Simooon 💜,
♡ SMALL THINGS: pick a fic and I’ll tell you my favorite minor detail from it!
For Lavender Haze/all this shit
♬ THEME SONG: pick a fic and I’ll share a song that reminds me of it (and why!)
You crave the applause yet hate the attention
Kyss mig med dina röder läppar and/or
Lavender Haze/all this shit (just feel free to pick one or any she/her Wille coded song)
⇆ SLIDING DOORS: pick a character from one fic to drop into another!
I'd love some Aylin somewhere
↻ FLIP FLOP: send me a scene from one of my fics and I’ll describe or write it from another character’s POV!
maybe some Lavender haze from Simon's or Maddie's pov
I know I sent in quite a few just feel free to pick the ones you wanna answer and leave the rest
Heyyyyy, Sophia!!!!! Thank you so much for this lovely ask! 💜💜💜
♡ SMALL THINGS: pick a fic and I’ll tell you my favorite minor detail from it! (For Lavender Haze)
When they exchange shirts at the end 😭😭😭 that was one of the many little ideas that surprised me while I was writing it and I was like!!!!! Omg!!!!!! Mutual "i'm taking your shirt home with me" moment!!!!!!! Promise of "we'll meet again"!!!!!!!
♬ THEME SONG: pick a fic and I’ll share a song that reminds me of it (and why!)
(okay, full disclaimer: I never really choose songs for my fics, unless they're already based on one, just because I never really find one that fits? but I'll try my best, haha)
For You crave the Applause / Yet hate the Attention:
Is it a cop-out if I say Achilles Come Down?? I really can't think of anything else and the line I used for the title quite literally inspired the whole fic (in the sense that I went.... wait..... Wille doesn't like when the attention is on him but he relishes in the kind things Simon has to say to him??? that's my anxious praise-kink-haver Wille)
For Kyss mig med dina röda läppar:
Okay, based on nothing but the fact that I had to come up with something right now? Welcome Home, Son by Radical Face is THE song for like... childhood nostalgia to me? And just because to me there are elements of nostalgia in the whole childhood best friends set-up? That song maybe? Also, just cinematically, please imagine the crescendo of "Welcome home" playing as they finally kiss. You're welcome <3
Lavender Haze/all this shit (just feel free to pick one or any she/her Wille coded song)
I........ I truly got nothing 😭😭😭 I'm so sorry but I am HORRID at coming up with songs for fic vibes
⇆ SLIDING DOORS: pick a character from one fic to drop into another!
Since you mentioned Aylin, my beloved, from Lavender Haze/All this shit.... hmmmm.... I was thinking that she could easily be sitting my Felice's side in Flash The Camera, You're A Star! and helping her search for the mysterious man that made Wille lose his mind (and almost lose his interneship </3)
↻ FLIP FLOP: send me a scene from one of my fics and I’ll describe or write it from another character’s POV!
I'm going with Lavender Haze Simon in this one and (because I begged you to choose a scene in the DMs dkagfdkjg thank you <3) I'm writing a part of the scene where they first talk <3 (this is unedited and all I have in me today so bear with me)
Simon takes a deep breath. This is it, he thinks, squaring his shoulders a bit while he stares at the stranger's back. And what a back it is... A small voice in the back of his mind is telling him to turn back around and give the guy some space. Maybe he hadn't meant to stare Simon down the way he did, maybe it's all just a big misunderstanding, but Simon knows that he would regret not trying more than getting rejected. Even though he hopes that rejection is not where this is heading. When the stranger finally turns around, a bottle of coke in his hand, Simon feels his pulse hammering inside of his head. Because, okay, he knew the guy looked pretty, but this is- "Hej," Simon tries, because someone has to say something, right? And that does seem to work, because finally, finally the man in front of him lets a smile tug up the corners of his mouth. "Hi," he replies, and Simon can feel his own smile widen because, yeah. Yeah, this guy is really, really cute from up close. A beautiful dusting of freckles on his high cheekbones, dark eyes that are again and still trained on Simon and when he lifts a hand up towards his hair Simon thinks he desperately wants that one on him until. Oh fuck. No. No, no, no, this surely must be a joke. That movement rings a bell, it definitely rings a bell and the bell won't stop ringing because... No. No way in fucking hell did Simon end up trying to to talk to the fucking prince of all people. "Vänta!," the prince yells, and it's only then that Simon realizes that he stepped back. Despite the shock, the little outburst makes an incredulous smile reappear on his face. This is not the way the guy acts in those boring little TV appearances Simon sometimes sees him in. “I’m Wilhelm, uh… Wille, I mean…,” he adds, a little quieter and maybe it's the light, but Simon thinks that he might just be blushing. “You can call me Wille.” This is not what Simon thought was going to happen if he went to talk to the guy, not at all and maybe it's the whiplash Simon just experience, but this is... almost endearingly awkward. “Wille, huh?” he asks, because... he's pretty sure he should be his-majesty-ing the guy. Not that he'd do it, he just assumes that might be the expectation. But those big eyes are unfairly charming. And Simon feels stupid, reckless, absolutely fucking out of his mind, but he steps closer. Because something about him, something about the way this pretty, pretty man is looking at him... Maybe Simon gets to make some bad decisions sometimes. “Well, hello Wille , I’m Simon,”
