── .✦ a/n: so this one shot was for a req that glitched out of my inbox awhile back, n this fic has js been chilling in my drafts since then. ur dear is having an exam tmrw so pls enjoy these bits of crumbs of killua :p

city lights flashing vibrantly, sparkling as the traffic buzzed in the central of yorknew.

in the heart of all the beautiful modernity, dusk had laid its touch onto the society.

“i’m telling you killua, you seriously have to start being more polite during interviews, as well as meet and greets!” kurapika frantically turned around and yelled after he finished a particularly unpleasant phone call.

“let me guess. my pa threatened to fire you and disown me again?” the unbothered albino questioned as he mindlessly scrolled on his phone, lazing around in his personal dressing room of the grammy’s event. “you know how serious silva is about your career, killua.” the blonde stressed as he felt a migraine coming up any time soon. “chill pika. i’ll make sure you stay as my manager, kay?” killua assured, eyes still glued to his mobile device.

kurapika closed his eyes, and took a deep breath. “alright, get up killua! time to get into your outfit! you have only 2 more hours left before the award ceremony starts!” the poor blonde clapped his hands as he started directing assistants to pamper the young celebrity.

killua zoldyck, was a child star due to his mother and father discovering he had “talent” and was also the most good-looking out of their many children at a young age. killua had a successful acting career as a young child until he was 14. afterwards, he ventured into the music industry and was just as successful, due to already being well known by the media and previous fans of his many shows and movies.

a few halls down, was the dressing room for y/n, a new star in the music industry.

you were once a child model, and did multiple advertisement gigs. once you hit puberty, your parents pulled you out of the public eye so you could focus on your personal life and on your studies. fortunately for you, you were born for the spotlight! you dropped out of college to pursue a music career, and it immediately took off!

“pika, i don’t get it. why is my pa so much more worried recently? its pretty fucking annoying.” killua rolled his eyes as he cheekily questioned his manager who was standing from afar as assistants dressed the star. “god, you’re so clueless.” kurapika face palmed as he began to pull out his phone. “huh? what do you mean by that?” the silverette cockily smirked.

“its all because of her.” kurapika shoved his phone into killua’s face, which made killua slightly back up. what was on kurapika’s phone was google results of many articles of a female celebrity named “y/n l/n”.

“who the hell is this bitch?” killua asked plainly as he looked back at his manager with a sense of annoyance. “she’s been your biggest opponent in the music industry currently, for the past year.” the blonde sighed, no longer surprised from his employer’s ignorance. “yeah right. she’s a chick, she’s in a totally different category from me!” the albino brushed off with an overflowing amount of confidence. “killua, ever since she gained popularity, your coverage in the media has decreased significantly! your father and i are very concerned by the effects that individual has been causing to your popularity.” the stressed manager was about to lose his mind, any second. “okaaayyy pikaaaa!” killua pouted as the assistants at last, finally finished dressing him up in his tuxedo.

“you seriously have me suicidal.”

“don’t be so dramatic!”

“you look so good y/n! i knew the dress i picked out for you would make you look stunning!” bisky exclaimed as she pumped her fist up in a rush of pride and excitement. “theres a reason my mom chose you as my manager.” you sheepishly smiled, still not over the fact of how much the whole outfit costed. bisky, your manager with a handful amount of experience under her belt, definitely was not afraid to put you in pricey things, she thinks it makes you look elegant while also discreetly hoping for one of the luxury brands to make you their brand ambassador!

the hall was now filled to the brim with a variety of celebrities and stars, all gathered for the well-known grammy’s award ceremony. you stepped into the humongous hall, star-struck by how cool everything is! the fact this was now your reality! you cautiously walked to your designated seat, anxiety bubbling up in your stomach by how all the older and well-known in the industry celebrities were so intimidating!

killua walked into the hall unfazed, he’d been in the spotlight for his entire life with no breaks, this was all way too normal for him. the handsome silverette non-chalantly sat down at his designated seat, crossing his legs casually.

hours had passed as the ceremony went on as expected, that is until the category that was crucial to you had approached.

“alright ladies and gentlemen! and the winner for female artist of the year isssss…” the host at the stage dramatically announced as she started opening an envelope that contained the results. you could feel your palms become sweaty, your heart racing up erratically, your legs shaking and a lump in your throat from the anticipation. this moment was absolutely everything to you.

“the winner for female artist of the year is.. Y/N! ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR HER, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!” the host joyfully yelled into the mic.

“huh?” you quietly let out, unaware of what just happened. the winner is who? you? what? the winner is y/n? YOU? YOU WON? YOU WON AN AWARD AT THE GRAMMY’S?

you rose from your seat, legs subtly still shaking, as you proceeded to the stage while smiling back at the crowd. your mind was filled with rushing thoughts and your heart beamed with happiness.

as you stepped up onto the stage and got ahold of the mic and award, you started thanking everyone and such. while you were so distracted by your shining success, a specific pair of sapphire eyes were fixated on you.

killua examined you meticulously as you expressed your gratitude and whatever the fuck you were going about. he really couldn’t be bothered to focus on your words.. he was far too distracted by you, yourself.

you. the way your smile was so warm and vivacious. the way your glossy hair shined under the blinding stage lights. the way your glittering eyes sparkled with a sense of ambition and hunger for beyond. the way your dress hugged your curves, as if you were masterfully sculpted to be otherworldly charming. the way your movements were so mesmerising, it was almost hypnotic to him. the way your nails were done and manicured to perfectly match your whole look. they way you were was simply so enchanting to killua, yet he didn’t even realise it yet. he was completely disconnected from his surroundings.

all of a sudden, the albino was pulled back to reality when a heavy round of applause interrupted his moment of admiration for you, it seems your speech was over. killua was surprised his whole thought process stopped so abruptly, it felt like as if all he could hear earlier was his own heartbeat, despite your speech and cheers from the crowd, and all he could see was you, despite the ocean of other celebrities.

as you stepped off stage, giddy and holding your grammy’s award. killua placed his pointer finger over his mouth and proceeded to stare at the floor. what just happened to him? sure, he had his fair share of scandalous affairs with models exposed by the paparazzi’s.. but that one small snippet of you felt like something completely foreign and unknown to him. fuck, he had to see you. you were irresistible.

once the grammy’s award ceremony had officially ended, everyone returned back to their personal dressing rooms to pack up and to slip out of the uncomfortable outfits.

“killua! where are you going? go back to your dressing room with me! what the hell!” kurapika shouted down the hallway as killua bolted passed kurapika and his room, with no words.

“fuck everything, i have to find that woman.” killua muttered under his breath as he ran passed all the other rooms, looking up at the name plagues, hoping to spot yours soon.

eventually, the silverette stopped outside your dressing room, as he finally spotted “y/n l/n” hung on one door. before killua could knock, the door opens.

“oh! hi mr killua! this is ms y/n’s room, can i help you with anything?” the youthful looking woman questioned in surprise. “uh yeah, who are you?” killua asked as he started poking his head above bisky’s shoulder, trying to catch a glimpse of you inside.

“AHEM. mr killua, i am ms y/n’s manager, biscuit krueger. now, can i help you with anything?” the cute lady shockingly sounded like a fierce middle-aged woman.

“i need to see y/n.” killua requested rashly, his head still in a daze. “hold on a minute, please.” bisky pointed her finger upwards before she disappeared into the room. killua stood patiently, as he eventually heard a foreign set of footsteps approaching the door from the other side.

“oh, hello. may i help you?”

“have sex with me.”

“what the fuck?”

“im just kidding. can i have your number though?”

“aren’t you that child actor who became a singer?”

“yeah.”

“hm, why not. here, i’ll type it in for you.”

“thanks!”

“also, i’ll think about the sex part.”

killua then soon witnessed the sight of you minimising, as the door shut on him, before he could even process what was just uttered to him.

hi! i know very little about arknights but the gacha game i DO play is gonna be doing a collab with them this year (limbus) and i feel like, knowing limbus like i do, i very much need to ask: who is priestess and what kind of narrative haunting insanity is she up to

OK SO, important point: This is a spoiler as fuck answer

Priestess is a character that's been hinted at from as far back as the concept trailers of Arknights, and hinted at throughout the entire game up to chapter 15 of the main story, which is currently newly released and properly introduces us to her in the present day. The only time we saw Priestess previously was in one backstory event Babel, and even then she is incredibly mysterious, all we knew at the time was this:

She was the one who created Originum

Now, in Arknights, Originum is the magic rocks that give you rock cancer and are at the center of pretty much the entire plot: Rhodes Island exists specifically to try and cure Oripathy, the disease Originum caused, and the Infected are at the backdrop and root of most if not all connected plot threads in the wider AK world.

The Babel event has another crazy lore reveal in conjunction with the existence of Priestess: Our player character Doctor, or Oracle as they were known, did not know that Originum would hurt Terra like this.

Now, there's a lot of backstory here as well, but the TL;DR is that there was once this hyper advanced space faring civilization that traveled the cosmos before being attacked and brought to the brink of extinction by 'something'. We don't really know what that 'something' is concretely just yet, but it led to many of their greatest trying to find a way to preserve their existence and immortality in a multitude of ways, and a lot of the main threats we fight across the various modes of Arknights ARE those methods that have been corrupted by either time, human error, or Originum.

Originum was one of these methods as well. It was the silver bullet, in fact. Originum was left on an ancient Terra and allowed to grow, and when Oracle, the last living individual of this species returned, they found that Terra had developed into the modern world of Arknights, and that Originum was hurting them.

It always came back to Originum, Oripathy, and Priestess. And we learn what Originum truly is before we even meet her, in Chapter 14: Originum is an assimilation device, a way to preserve souls, information, and consciousnesses even through death within an alternate universe called The Assimilated Universe.

Priestess' final endgoal was the assimilation of all life and the universe, leaving it an empty void filled with nothing but black rocks, all living things locked in what amounted to an empty dream.

We have multiple instances of characters basically doomsaying as much throughout, but Originum, and specifically Priestess, has a hand in pretty much most of the tragic events in the main story that follow Rhodes Island and Doctor. And she wasn't there physically until recently, but she was always watching.

PRTS is the AI of the Rhodes Island landship, the main base for the characters, and specifically was something we as a player would always see and were passively aware of at any point, given that it runs our auto farm comps and we see both the logo and name pretty much everywhere.

PRTS. Priestess.

She was always there. Always watching. Waiting. Waiting for the right moment to finish what she started.

𝐁𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐛 (𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐮𝐭) : You had just landed at Boston airport last night, got a rental car, and Luca drove you to the beautiful little AirBNB that was decked out in adorable Halloween decor. Of course to break in the new space you went for a few rounds as soon as you got there, and you had left your phones off since you got on the plane since neither of you wanted to be bothered, and if you didn’t see it you wouldn’t have the anxiety that came with feeling you were required to reply even though neither of you had any interest in having conversation with anyone but eachother at the moment, so none of your alarms had gone off thankfully.

You and Luca had finally gotten some time off. You were currently studying law at the University of Copenhagen, and decided that you were going to take the fall semester off because you and Luca had just gotten engaged and wanted time together to plan your wedding. Luca had made his way up to head pastry chef, so in celebration Luca had surprised you with a trip to Salem to see the foliage and do other fun fall things. 

Halloween was always you and Luca’s favorite holiday. In the 3 years that you had been dating, you had always picked out cute couples costumes together, The first year, You were Fred and Daphne from Scooby doo, The next you were Lilo and Stitch, and this year you were going to be some girl called D.VA and Luca would be a guy called Soldier 76 from some video game that he was always playing when he had free time.

You weren’t so sure what it was, you just knew she wore a cute leotard that made you feel like a superhero and an adorable pink bunny rabbit she carried around, and he even ended up finding a cute bunny backpack for your costume to go with it. Halloween though, was over a week away. You had just landed at Boston airport last night, got a rental car, and Luca drove you to the beautiful little AirBNB that was decked out in adorable Halloween decor. 

Of course to break in the new space you went for a few rounds as soon as you got there, and you had left your phones off since you got on the plane since neither of you wanted to be bothered, and if you didn’t see it you wouldn’t have the anxiety that came with feeling you were required to reply even though neither of you had any interest in having conversation with anyone but eachother at the moment, so none of your alarms had gone off thankfully.

You woke up, entangled limbs and pumpkin printed sheets, cheek mushed on Lucas pec comfortably, as embarrassing as it was, a little bit of drool crusted in the corner of your mouth. What could you say? The 7 hour flight on top of 4 hours of tacked on extra traveling and then nearly 3 hours of intense hooking up with your boyfriend that had the stamina of a stallion wiped you out to say the least. 

The room was still comfortably dark, just a sliver of light peeking through the blackout velvet curtains. 

You peeled your cheek off of his warm chest,  your eyes fluttering open to see your beautiful boyfriend sleeping beneath you still. You planted a gentle, loving kiss on his collarbone, before getting up and tending to your plans you had for the morning. Your loving, wonderful fiancee had gone through all of the planning of your trip on his own, because he wanted to surprise you. He’d known you’d always wanted to go to Salem, especially around Halloween which was your two’s special holiday.

You slip on your fluffy baby pink robe, adorned with bats that he’d bought you for the trip, as well as your nightmare before Christmas slippers and pad out to the kitchen. Your first line of business was to feed your black cat, Since it was your cat together, of course he was named Salem - Who was meowing and weaving between your legs, asking for his breakfast.

“I know baby I know baby!” You coo, picking him up and kissing his fluffy head as you walked to the kitchen. After you got him all settled, you got working on the Classic English Breakfast for Luca using the groceries that you’d ordered from instacart last night. Pork breakfast sausages, poached eggs, fried mushrooms and tomatoes, black pudding, and sourdough toast with lots of english butter, which you realized costed a whopping $6 opposed to it only being 2 back home. 

Just as you were getting everything plated on the table, you heard a cough come from the bedroom “Lu?” you called, hoping his throat felt a bit better then yesterday. Luca hated flying to say the least. 

“Are you cooking” he called back with a light cough. 

“Mm breakfast is made pretty boy” you went and stood at the doorway to see Salem had made his way to cuddle up on Lucas chest. “And petting him so close isn’t gonna help that dry throat” you told him, going over and kissing his forehead gently. 

He puckered his lips for a kiss and you lean down, brushing his messy blonde tufts out of his eyes and giving him a gentle kiss. “What did you make?” He asked softly when you pulled away, taking your hand and kissing the pads of your fingers gently. 

“I made you some green tea for that airplane throat, and your favorite, classic English- cmon. Let’s go curl up on the couch and watch Goosebumps” you told him and giggle as he pulled you to lay on top of him since Salem had went off to go play with his toys 

“Mmmmm - I don’t think that’ll be enough, I think I’m in the mood for something a little sweeter” he said softly in your ear before taking the lobe between your teeth and tugging gently. 

You giggled at the way he’d been awake  for not even 10 minutes and he was already trying to get you out of your robe this morning. 

“Breakfast, then dessert, let’s go handsome” you gently played with his pretty blonde locks and he hums. 

“I guess breakfast will get cold, mm” he said and kissed the side of your face lightly. “And I can tell you if your egg poaching skills have gotten any better” he teased, pushing up the bottom of your robe and squeezing your bum between his palms, trailing his hands up to your hips.

“It will- I know what those hands are up to” you giggled as they made their way back down to cup your heat through your panties. 

“They have a mind of their own in the mornings” he said with a small smirk. You hum and leaned in, kissing him deeply just enough to make him believe that he had won this little battle that he’d started with you, before pulling away and getting up with a frisky grin.

“Well it won’t be a fair judgment of my eggs if you let them get cold, Lu!” you giggled and made your way out to the dining room, leaving him cold in bed.

“You’re gonna pay for that - we don’t have anything planned today” he chuckled as he finally got up to follow you.

What fandoms do you write for?

Currently? One Piece and I'm fiddling with Arcane behind the scenes without posting. But I have written for Avatar The last Airbender, Game of Thrones, Star Trek, The Magnus Archives, Silmarillion, My Hero Academia, and MXTX works.

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

OK so my inbox is a fucking mess. I do try to respond to comments but once I fall behind I fall so behind. And once I start getting mean comments or concrit, it's hard for me to go back and respond to comments on a fic. Usually, I'll respond in a big wave to comments on the last chapter before posting the next but sometimes I forget.

What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I don't really write unhappy endings. 🤔 I currently have an abandoned wip that ends at an unhappy spot and I have a few dead dove oneshots that are pretty angsty but no multichaps. Maybe feather of lead.

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

They are genuinely all so happily ever after fluffy that it's hard to choose. Maybe Car Trouble. Or after all the angst, you might consider the ending of such small words super happy. Idk.

Do you get hate on fics?

Depends on how you define hate. I get comments telling me I made incorrect choices or that my fics are wrong in some way for doing xyz. I get character hate. I've been told I'm a bad person for writing certain kinks or tropes on pwps or that I'm perpetuating stereotypes and that's damaging. Annoying shit like that.

Do you write smut?

Lmao yes

Do you write crossovers?

I've done it once! Star Trek/Good Omens for shits and giggles.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

One time. It got taken down fairly quickly though.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yeah! A handful of times. It's always so cool when people ask.

Have you ever cowritten a fic before?

Yes. With my beloved collaborater naromoreau. I think we have like eight fics we wrote together? Probably about 200k collaborated words at this point. I've learned so much from her and nothing is as fun as writing with her.

What's your all time favorite ship?

I will probably never get over spirk.

What's the wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Hot Sugar. I'm so sorry but I lost the will.

What are your writing strengths?

I am a fast writer. My methods of getting through writers block almost never fail. But those aren't strengths that translate to the page.

On the page, I think I'm good with character psychology and motivations which I think shows up well in dialogue, pacing and plot beats. My writing is concise mostly because if I don't have a reason for including something, I will cut it. I'm a brutal editor and will kill my darlings without remorse.

What are your writing weaknesses?

I am a fast writer lmao which sometimes means I write too much and quality dips massively because the mental reservoir will empty and I end up tapping an empty well. While I like to think I am concise and efficient at conveying things, I sometimes think I "underwrite" or perhaps "overtell."

Thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages?

As a younger writer, I did it but only because I spoke that language. I think there might be value. Here we come back to, if you can make a compelling argument for *why* it serves the story then I'm open to it but also you better check with someone who is fluent.

First fandom you wrote for

Star Trek. Unless you count my notebook scribbling of inuyasha fic when I was 14.

Favorite fic you've written

God ok. I've written nearly 200 fics across a gazillion fandoms so there's a few. Most recently life in your shape for One Piece because I challenged myself to write something low conflict and loved how it came out. Watermark from Good Omens. And Grossly Undeserved from Star Trek.

I just love writing about what love means to different people!!!

Man, it's been a minute since a scammer reached out to me; I've gotten so used to only seeing real campaigns in my inbox, I started wondering if I'd never receive another scam message. Alas, I was wrong.

This is normally where I'd provide a checklist of common red flags I noticed, but instead, I'll just show you what I found when I put the photo of the girl OP provided through RIS:

The first link that RIS provided led to this post, which is a reblog of another diabetic fundraiser that originally belonged to "pinkkidcreator" (who's currently deactivated. How interesting.)

Notice how they use the exact same photos as OP? And that the words they use are exactly the same? And how the text in both the linked post as well as OP's post is multicolored, despite how out of place that is for a presumably serious request for help this is supposed to be? (It's not uncommon for fundraising posts to use color to bring attention to their campaign, but most of the legit posts stick to one color per line, not one color per word or per letter; that's something I've only seen on scam posts, like the ones pictured below ⤵️)

Also, peep the name used for their empty PayPal account (which is always included in scams like these) that someone else linked in the notes: "Eunice Odira". How coincidental that the person using the same photos as OP is also named "Eunice", even though they have different last names for some reason. However, they way OP writes their name in their own empty PayPal, “eUnice'margwel'”, is a rather odd way of writing a name, isn't it? Not only is it odd, it's actually something I've noticed in names used in scams I've called out previously (such as the example in the screenshot pictured below, which is from the post in the link I provided ⤵️)

Never trust a donation post linked to an empty PayPal account unless said link has been verified by a trusted source

I’m writing a novel that I’ve been working on for years. I recently read a book that contained a LOT of worldbuilding concepts that are very similar to my own, though our plots are different. I’m worried readers will think I ripped off this other novel even though we clearly both had the same ideas independently (a magic system based on a particular way real-word science works, and the aesthetic look of a character including their signature wound). How do I deal with these similarities in a social and business aspect when trying to publish my own novel?

Three Secrets About Book Similarities

Here's a little secret: every book ever written shares unintentional similarities with some other story, and probably with lots of other stories. There are millions upon millions of stories in the world. Humanity is steeped in stories. The likelihood of coming up with a setting, plot, character, magic system, etc. that doesn't share similarities with countless existing stories is very, very slim. Here's another secret: When you've poured your heart and soul into a story, it's so special to you that even the slightest similarities to another story will glaring. The truth is, however, magic systems based on particular aspects of real world science are a dime a dozen, so the odds of you being the first person to do it are virtually nonexistent. It's much more likely that there are actually hundreds of other stories based on the same particular way real world science works. But if you didn't intentionally copy one of those other stories, I guarantee the particulars of your magic system are different enough to matter. And while it is a little weird that you also happen to have a character with the same aesthetics and wound, that's easy enough to fix. You can make a list of similarities there and tweak them. Now, here's the final secret: No one cares. If you didn't blatantly and obviously plagiarize this other story, it is not a business issue and is not likely to be a social issue. The industry and readers actually favor similarities in stories... why do you think everyone rushed to write vampire fiction after the popularity of Twilight, which actually shared some pretty big similarities with The Vampire Diaries which was published 14 years earlier... Look at the current popularity of dragon riding stories. Look at the dystopian craze ushered in by The Hunger Games, and the spicy romantasy era brought in by Sarah J. Maas. Look at the way comps are used to entice readers to read new books... "Fans of blank and blank will love this book!" or "For fans of blank and blank." Comps exist because of similarities between one book and another book, and because readers enjoyed those similarities enough to read another book with them.

So, truly, don't worry about it. If it makes you feel any better, you can absolutely tweak what you have to make it different enough to ease your concerns. Here are some previous posts on the same topic:
