i'd like to think im roughly 97% recovered from nanami (hush...we don't speak of the 3% on wednesday post-midnights) - it's a little bit scary to think about returning to that state. i don't mean in a bad way, im just recognising the emotional weight of it. i both miss it and am intimidated by it, yknow.

i wonder sometimes if i only could get that attached because i didn't know how ruthless akutami was as an author - i definitely attribute or associate my longing for nanami with the brevity of his feature.

i would joke about the psychic damage that panel still deals me but the gag is the self-deprecating "if i don't laugh i'd sob about it" kind

with higuruma yeah, i'm deep enough into the series to know not to get too attached. i am still very attracted to him! but it's so far off from nanami's era. they are quite different men too. but yknow i will confess my type may just be (hot) world weary mentor figures. unfgh

from time to time i muse, was there something about nanami that lent him a certain versatility amidst verisimilitude or was i just so enamoured i could imagine him in any plethora of scenarios?

i wonder! because currently i like to play around with a more fixed set of scenarios with higuruma, feeling out the perimeters of his predictability- perhaps im just getting started on knowing him, figuring out how to flesh him out - but i find the appeal of his character distinct too from nanami's. grounded but not quite jaded, knows how to poke fun at himself, at systems. his sense of irony has a more comic inflection, even though i know how much it's underpinned by the tragic too - but well, it's always been...a challenge shall we say, for me to resist characters who laugh and spit in the face of fate.

i adore(d?) nanami with an all-consuming unrivaled ingenue sincerity, whereas there's an impossible to ignore relatability about hiromi and him being embattled by his own zeal for ethical standards. i miss them both so much! it's odd to articulate this but sometimes it makes me so frustrated and forlorn that the only place i get to enjoy their company again is on a blank page. but i guess, that's the mark of great fiction, the beloved are real for the littlest while, and not real enough for the remainder.

i adore everything you have ever said about bruce and talia, the recent post about the romantic tension is something I thought about too. do you have any other similar post-lexcorp era headcanons for them. I agree on talia choosing her own path seperate of the playing house future people like to adopt for her but the bittersweetness of their relationship after that is so !!! something about tragic romances or duty before love romances are incomparable! do you have any other such ships?

so like. for whatever all i said and my many cries that if talia was never in a batbook again i would be happy (and i really would like fuck that editorial team) i do think it's obv it would be completely impossible to stage jason's return and damian's introduction without her being involved yknow. so i have a lot of overarching hcs about her being an ally during that time period in the batman mythos but less as someone easy on the eyes and more as someone truly painful for bruce to look at. bc there's a lot of explaining she has to do. how does she explain how the red hood came to be. how does she explain potentially killing the joker (bc let's be real. she would. killing is a non-option for talia until not doing so directly puts a loved one's life at stake and i do believe whatever fucked up effect the joker has on jason would qualify by her standards). how does she explain not telling bruce that she did have a baby. how does she explain that bc she walked away from ra's she wasn't careful enough and ra's found out and got the baby back. etc etc. to me the irony of the completion of lex corp era is that like. you had a glimpse of the repreive that could be wherein bruce and talia may have almost believed they could maybe reconcile and speak to each other on warmer terms. but with the way everything else in the batman mythos was going shit would inevitably hit the fan and everything talia thinks she walked away from would come rushing back to haunt her. and it would create a really great opportunity, i think, to turn bruce and talia's dynamic on its axis while focusing on how all of this only hurts talia more, bc obv bruce is going to be upset. but what about all of the times talia was upset and had to make the difficult decisions and go it completely alone. she was wrong and she made some mistakes but he doesn't get to patronize her after everything he's put her through yknow. so i'm really intrigued by the idea of this time period where they both want the same things - for jason and damian to be safe and happy - but there is so much grief behind how all of them got here that they'll have to wade through first and that will inevitably put them under the microscope of their surrounding audience bc everyone will see clearly how much they care for each other and yet how stubborn and principled they are anyway, and how this ultimately keeps them apart as much as their circumstances do

as for other romances of a similar kind this is why i recced song of the bandits recently! the main couple have very strong brutalia vibes imo even though the setting contextually is very different

anyway outside the goatboy tragedy...czerny was more interesting than i expected? I didn’t even realize he was a major character before oops. the whole deal with being leithanien’s only recognized infected musician so he has to keep giving things up to help the others...that seems to be the theme with him doesn’t it. he has to give up his privacy(?) to promote Morgen und Abend, then all his copyrights to get hospitals to treat infected, then eventually was even going to give up his life for eben and kreide. they don’t really dwell on it much but even at RI he donates most of what he earns... like yeah he’s a really nice guy but it seems like being the only infected in his position probably makes him feel like he has to be the one who does this for everyone else’s sake. which is tragic in its own way...dude please be a little more selfish. but this is a pretty realistic thing...

Oh yeah and I’m disappointed carnelian wasn’t here. like when i heard a leithanien event announced on stream that’s all i was waiting for and nope... please god let her be in the next one she desperately needs story. but this isn’t actually related to the event story

anyway my one real gripe… hibiscus…

why did she even get an alt. like you could replace her in this event with some npc and practically nothing would change...

the previous ones... lava being in who is real follows from her bond with nian, and kroos is A1 so yea she tags along, then gets an alt later... but why is hibiscus in leithanien. who knows. and you can see how lava and kroos have changed but hibiscus didn’t seem to change all that dramatically, yet they still dangle this ooh something terrible happened in her profile like Yes Okay I Know either tell us exactly or shut up this is the third time you’ve done this

well they had sarkaz racism and also immediately dropped it...speaking of that that’s something i’ve never liked. oripathy discrimination works (sometimes) because it doesn’t really have a clean real-world analogue, but this... hmm with the whole stealing blood thing this event they obviously seem to be making this an analogue to antisemitism. which... okay but the sarkaz are literally devils. like they got shapeshifters and vampires and are also most of the major enemy types... that’s not good...? 

idk i didn’t like the victoria taran thing for a similar reason. and then there’s how ursus hates catgirls and victoria maybe looks down on zalak from this random throwaway line just. why??? 

aegir in iberia is the only time ak has done this decently because they don’t try to make some stupid reason like actually they tried to take over the world 200 years ago, it’s just xenophobia amplified by the church picking a scapegoat after the Silence. and they use this interestingly sometimes with how the cult preys on vulnerable people. also aegir are from fuckn atlantis so they can’t make bad analogues thankfully

I’ve always really liked kroos, and fang and beagle by extension, and then lava after who is real... but hibiscus just makes me feel nothing. she’s just a medic who works hard and has her 1 gimmick of making terrible food. and i wanna like all of A1 so i don’t like that

at least they made a point of how she doesn’t know how to play the flute because looking at her e2 yeah i can tell STOP HOLDING IT LIKE THAT !! (but also her class doesn’t make much sense i don’t remember there being any big moment in the story where she decides to use her arts offensively... it’s mentioned in one of her voicelines tho so i might have missed it????)

Yknow one of the most ironic and tragic facts about the bad future is that... in the msot twisted way possible, the boys got ehat they wanted. Throughout the series they've been shown to want to be able to mingle freely with the human and yokai populous, two worlds that they all have a foot in but don't belong to either of them. In the bad future the lines between Yokai, Mutant, and Human are nonexistent and they can freely interact with the world and be seen for the amazing heroes they are... but at the price of the Krang (which I discovered is spelled with only one 'A' in Rise)

I don’t know if I totally agree that they ever wanted this. The only turtle who shows a real desire to be among humans is Donnie, and that’s only so he can show off how smart he is. Everyone else seems to just kind of embrace the awkward nature of their existence. But it’s a bitter irony that the turtles, who are half human and half yokai, are the ones to bring the world together, but only in the event of an apocalypse where the world is ending.

@pathos-logical also wanted to know about this one! here is another fic i currently have no intent to publish, unless i manage to separate it out into a few different cohesive story-threads, but i keep trying to do that and it just Does Not work as well without all the clashing vibes of storylines i like

in this fic, thus far, damian has gone full murder-child in order to avenge the well-proven death of Nightwing (i still struggle to wrap my head around the "time travelling batman" plotline & fully believe tim got shafted by the batfam in it so i've opted to disregard it entirely for the purposes of this fic. however damian arrived vaguely early in the sequence of batfam canon, and bruce freaked out over the Literal Child Assassin he now had on his hands on top of Everything until dick just like, stealth-kidnapped him off to bludhaven, where he was pretty much living until the whole "disappearance and death" thing went down)

jason is building his crime empire, still unknown to the rest of the family except as an ominously-named minor threat, and has also rescued sasha grimm of the scarred face and sellout father. this is a character in canon that is almost entirely forgotten because the comics dropped her pretty fast (my theory is that DC didn't know what to do with a complex female character who wasn't Pretty. but that's just me) and i care about her. so much. she doesn't even have a canonical last name i made up "grimm" due to the etymology & vibes of it. she is however canonically jason's sidekick who goes by "Scarlet" and sees the red hood as family (because he rescued her when batman & robin promised to do so, and left her behind; because he rescued her when she had a horrific mask glued to her face and enough trauma to kill her own father, and didn't care if she was a monster, because she was also a kid. god i just care so much about sasha)

meanwhile tim is spiralling bc batman is once again self-destructing over a dead child, & this time tim isn't enough to fix it, so he's directed all his focus to solving the mystery of dick's death because maybe that'll help something, somehow. unfortunately he gets in over his head with one of black mask's henchman. fortunately, a begrudgingly moral crime lord is also staking out black mask at the time. robin is summarily kidnapped by the red hood, much to everyone's dismay, including jason's.

over in the increasingly dysfunctional manor, cass is near-constantly accompanied by steph & helena kyle - who was never given up for adoption in a misogynistic storyline that relied on catwoman becoming too much of a woman to be a good criminal when she had a kid. adoption is an extremely valid and loving choice for a birth parent to make but the rationale for these writers to make catwoman choose it was literally "unlike bruce wayne, who has a literal parade's worth of kids in his basement, catwoman can't juggle being a parent & having a (night) job without letting her Emotions and Womanly Irrationality get in the way of good crime work" so. helena kyle sticks around in my canon. daughter of batman & heir to the Cat, u guys, this character is SO underplayed

and duke - duke is just chillin in gotham, livin his life, for the time being. for the time being. the joker's about to break out of arkham again, though, and - well. let's just say i've opted to fix the meter of a certain chilling rhyme...

Okay, so chapter 20. Love Fundy’s power based on his fox origin, makes total sense. George is useless and I love him for it. Karlnapty isn’t immediately giving up on their relationship, so that’s a win.

More irony. Dream is the reason Tommy has a moral compass, which is why Tommy didn’t want him killed and why it hurts so bad that he did. Meanwhile, all Tommy’s rage is still there, which allows him to keep pulling until he kills dream. This is the same rage and protectiveness as Phil and Techno have. And just like them, Tommy didn’t properly think about the consequences. But they ultimately made that mistake first and it’s a repeated offense, so of course Tommy is gonna blame them. Maybe they finally , earn to think things through.

Then we also have the showdown between Dream and Phil, with Tommy’s mental commentary. Dream is one giant red flag big enough to cover the city at this point. Phil, while trying, is still speaking for Tommy while reducing to drop the syndicate name after being told not to use it repeatedly. This tells you everything you need to know about Phil and Techno’s hypocrite and how little they value their youngests’ emotions dispite the fact that they love them very much.

This was a great chapter and you are evil for having Tommy kill Dream (as all authors should be).

and yes the dramatic irony of tommy killing dream... and you get it the parallel with the anger and protectiveness that phil and techno both have... and tommy does have a right to blame them! he shouldn't have been put in that situation in the first place yknow? they should've left well enough alone but they didnt and tommy had to pay the price

also yeah I really wanted to show that phil was better than dream in pretty much every single way, but he's not perfect. he still has a lot of things he needs to fix about the way he views tommy and his emotions

2: What is your character's favorite memory?

Ahhh . ow ok so,

when she was a young kid she wandered off into the woods alot. see, she grew up in tuscany, areas surrounded by forests yknow . when she was little she would always find bones and some more odd things huddled deep in the thicker places tourists wouldn't visit and . things like that are what sparked her interest in investigation and biohazard work

and her father would usually come with her. but they moved to japan when her father fell ill. so until her early teens when she left she could never go on those walks with her again.

those moments are special to her in of themselves because . she was allowed to be quiet and silent. she just had her supervision to wander around is all . but that's not exactly her fondest memory. see, you know how I mentioned tonio is like a father figure for her .

she doesn't really celebrate her birthday, but she'd gotten the week off for a break to have some time to mourn. for various reasons related to her hometown. and tonio knew what it was for and let her stay home yknow. well, when she came back, a new decoration had been added to the various displays around the resturaunt, yknow? the pictures on the walls, the bird statues- well, the province she was raised in is known for its flowers . next to a photo frame on the mantle was a little vase of orange cosmos . though mostly insignificant it's something she's grateful for

listen I won't discuss the meaning of those flowers and her and what significance they have to her but. she feels much more at home there, now. she always sits at the table closest to them on her break, if there's no customers there.

Complicated! See, Fausta isn't her real name. It's an alias . Her real name is entirely dead to her, if only because she refuses to use it for her own safety and peace of mind. the origin of her name is a play that influenced her alot as a child. The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus

Its.. significant to her, in ways she can't explain. an unpopular name to use, due to faustus and his pact with the devil, but it stuck with her when she's first heard it. she's adopted it as her own, now.

as for actual meaning. it means " fortunate " or " lucky, " which is.. a bit of irony, really

so we're doing chemistry rn and looking at atoms and ions and elements bc chemistry, and you've got three particle? thingies and they're electrons, neutrons, and protons. protons positive, electrons negative, neutrons neutral. nucleus is the centre of something bc it literally means centre

side note, alchemy set science back a crapton bc ppl saw "scientists" going like, hmmm yes elixir of life and lead into gold. how shall I achieve this? and ppl were like wtf are scientists okay

anyway. in the periodic table, the atomic number is generally top left, atomic mass number is below the letters, which will be a shortening of the elements name. examples are H for Hydrogen and Au for Gold (Aurun in Latin. that's why so many shortenings of the elements don't look like their elements name - they're in another language but we (my school vghvjdf) use the English terms)

atomic number = the number of electrons, which then equals protons bc negative must have positives balancing it out, yknow? neutrons are found by taking the atomic number (number of protons/electrons) away from the atomic mass

then you've got the structure of an atom! which is basically protons + neutrons in the nucleus, with the electrons "orbiting" them in their shells.

the electron shells hold the electrons around the nucleus. the first shell holds up to two electrons (1 electrons means uve got Hydrogen, two means you've got helium), the second up to eight (but you've gotta fill the first up fully before you can move to the next)(the eight are uhhh lithium, beryllium, boron, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, fluorine and neon) then the third eight again (sodium, magnesium, aluminium, silicon, phosphorus, sulfur, chlorine, and argon) and then it changes again I think, but we only went up to the third shell

oh, and the way you write the electrons is with, for example uhhh silicon, you'd go 2, 8, 4 bc that's that's order they're in (bc first shell holds two, second holds eight, third holds four.)

and then you have ions! ion is pronounced quite similarly to iron, because we've dropped the r from iron. pronounce it with a hard r, like in irony. it's basically that. anyway, ions are what happen when electrons do funky shit.

look, so an atom wants its shell(s) to be full, yes? bc like, completeness. idk bro. so if it's like, for example, fluorine which has only 7 electrons in a shell that can hold, and therefore wants, eight electrons. and its reactive (an alkali I think) because it wants to have all full shells, and therefore it has to "steal" another electron (it could lose seven, but that's rare af)

whereas atoms with less than 4 electrons (bc four is weird, it's right in the middle. 1, 2, 3 all go down (usually), 5, 6, 7 all go up (usually), 4 is fucking annoying) will all, in most likelihood, lose electrons to get full shells.

now, when a shell loses or gains electrons, the atomic becomes an ion! an ion basically means an atom with a charge.

atoms don't have charges, as such. this is because the protons and electrons balance each other out, and the neutrons are neutral and therefore don't affect the equation (or maybe they do, idk yet they don't teach us that stuff until later)

so with something like Boron (B) with the atomic number 5 (which is all I care abt rn), it has 2, 3 electrons per shell. but if it becomes an ion, it will "lose" those three electrons that don't make up a full shell (most of the time!) which means that now when you try to balance the electrons & protons, instead of it being 5 protons minus 5 electrons, it's 5 protons minus 2 electrons.

that results in an ion! because now the atom is positively charged, since there are less electrons then protons. this would be written as B3+ (bc 3 positives aren't balanced out) *the 3+ would be in superscript not subscript but. tumblr.*

and so the noble gases (which are like. either very or mostly stable depending on how far down u go) are non-reactive because they all have full shells. halogens and alkalis are really fucking reactive because they're really close to either only needing to lose one electron to have a full shell, or gaining one to have a full shell and therefore wanna react.

an oxygen ion is called oxide, the -ide suffix being used when something gains electrons. -ate is the suffix used when it loses atoms.

Twilight Highlights

(A.N: my first WWDITS fic! it’s a little ooc but yknow its canon that nandor likes twilight and none of u can tell me otherwise. also i love nandor/guillermo with all of my soul and being)

"Oh yeah, I introduced Nandor to Twilight," 

Colin Robinson shrugged at the cameramen, beige sweater almost blending in completely to the cream coloured chair he was currently swathed in. 

"I figured it'd be a good way to bring more tension into the household. People were getting a little chummy lately - and that's kind of a disruption to my feeding." 

Introducing things to people was a pretty good way of draining energy, but this was a game his flatmates had long since gotten wise to. Usually when he was recommending something, it was just a long winded way of getting a good energy harvest - annoyance with a long buildup was something of a feast for him (the creation of the podcast had truly been a turning point in energy harvesting techniques, a real big hit in the Energy Vampire community). 

Twilight was supposed to be another one of these schemes, but it turned out Colin had severely underestimated the former warlord's love for YA melodrama. When he'd tried it on Laszlo, he'd fed for a week on the angered ravings of vampiric inaccuracies and overall poor word choice. And of course, anything Laszlo heard about was shared with Nadja - so it was really a 2 for 1 meal, courtesy of Stephanie Meyer. 

He'd been expecting the same with Nandor - although his flavour of anger was a bit more punchy than Laszlo and Nadja's. They were more of a slow-cooked kinda deal - hisses and grinding teeth and darkly muttered curses. Nandor was more the type to skewer a book he disliked with a sword and then never speak of it again. Kind of like taking a shot of something strong.

He'd waited a week for that punch of energy. What he got instead was a tentative knock on his door, and Nandor asking if there was another book, and that's how he knew he was in trouble. 

Because, he'd had to pour over those books for hours to get the right information to spam the message boards with. To get details wrong, you needed to get them right. And there was nothing like spreading blatant misinformation about a YA series on an internet forum to get his engine going, so to speak. 

Which meant that he knew about Twilight. 

Which meant that, since he was a fan of it now, Nandor talked to him about Twilight. 

Now he was hanging out with Nandor of all people, listening to him ramble about the tragic romance of Bella and Edward, and feeling the full force of the lovechild of irony and karma hitting him in the face because holy shit, this is what it feels like.

It wasn't as bad as being drained by Evie, but still. Owch. 

Although he couldn't deny that the hit of energy he got from Laszlo accusing him of turning Nandor into a glitter loving monster was one of the most interesting flavours he'd had in a long time. 

"You bloody idiot, you know what he gets like!" 

Laszlo had sighed, dusting off a small pile of glitter from his sleeve from where he'd accidentally disturbed Nandor in the middle of a portrait creation. 

"This is going to be the ball of basket obsession from the 1990's all over again."

Nadja hissed through bared fangs, bony fingers clenched tightly between her skirts. 

Maybe there was another reason that Colin had introduced Nandor to the books - and, when he'd caught up with the technology, the movies. But it wasn't something he was about to disclose in front of a camera for the whole world to see. 

He had a reputation to protect. Cool, suave, level headed Colin Robinson. Ruthless, fangless - an apex predator in a beige sweater vest. He couldn't risk that getting damaged - his flatmates would lose respect for him. 

Although to their credit ever since his promotion and subsequent funeral, his flatmates had been trying with him. Whether that was out of genuine friendship or fear for their immortal lives - well that was anybody's guess. And, so what if he wanted to do something nice in return? Doing something nice just added more build-up to the eventual anger he'd get when he next decided to feed on them - draining his flatmates was no fun if they were expecting it. 

And if he'd introduced Nandor to a book series where the vampire and the human could be together...well, it was a coincidence. It was just to get Nandor mad when the movies turned out to be terrible. 

It wasn't to give him something to relate to. A piece of fiction where he wouldn't be portrayed as the monster feeding off of an innocent human, where vampire hunters weren't the likes of Van Helsing with stakes and pitchforks.

It wasn't to give Nandor an excuse to ask Guillermo to take him to the movies at night - one of the few activities the two could actually do together and still feel normal.

No, it was to annoy him. At some point, Nandor would get annoyed by something to do with Twilight, and then it was a win-win for Colin Robinson. Slow cooked anger achieved - yay for him.

Yeah, that was it. 

Nandor and Guillermo would be insufferable as a couple anyway, he was sure of it. There'd be even more opportunities for him to sweep in and make things awkward: candlelit dinners to disrupt, gifts that he could read the ingredients lists of and watch as the light left his flatmate’s eyes. 

Hell, a double date with Laszlo, Nadja, Nandor, and Guillermo would give him enough anger and frustration to feed him for a month. 

So it really was all for selfish reasons, this new hobby of Nandor’s. Reputation protected.

   (  Hello there everyone, yknow um  The reason Jervis is often not caught in his more ugly acts and mad experiments is because he almost always chooses his targets from the circles he’s most often in, which means... criminals. Already shady characters. Often times, especially people he happens to have bad blood with. Still not remotely an ok thing to do, but... he considers it better than picking up random, perfectly happy members of regular society. He’s even considered himself helping against crime sometimes. Even if that’s just a shallow justification for the sake of his mental dissonance.

Except in that one special case, of course. His Alices. Which makes his fixation on Alice always the catalyst for his most reprehensible behavior toward the most innocent of people, inevitably creating that tragic irony of turning something sweet into something horrifying. Luckily, this is usually the one Batman tends to catch him on right away, as it’s most often one: an impulse decision with little planning, done during his most irrational of psychotic episodes and two: very predictable behavior.  Batman hears a blonde girl’s gone missing and he’s just immediately at Tetch’s door!

But that first drabble I did was what I’m referring to when I always say it’s very important Jervis is not allowed to keep an Alice. Who knows what he’ll randomly decide to do to “fix” her.  )

cyclonus is so iconic...he just smacks the sword out of drifts hand like ‘yeah we’re not doing this.’ 

aaand then he just pins drift down effortlessly...I feel kinda bad for drift cause he’s trying so hard but also, cyclonus is such an icon
