How did you come up with Stephanie’s name, and why/how did you decide she’s from North Carolina of all places? (I feel like it’s a very insignificant state even in America, but maybe we’re more popular than I think.)

Fun story about that one!

Stephanie's name comes from two places: One was that I was trying to find a name that means something fitting in Greek. So I went looking for words for grapes, etc etc. Stefanos/Stefania is a name that means crown or wreath in Greek, so I wanted to combine it with something meaning grapes, like a crown of grapevines.

Then the Greek word for grapes turned out to be stafýli which said out loud sounds like Stephanie. So in order to avoid a Remus Lupin situation where Stephanie would be called Stefania Stafyli, I decided Stephanie sounded enough like grapes in Greek, and still means wreath, and changed the middle name to Elia, because I also happen to like the name Olive.

So, Stephanie is essentially named Olive Wreath. Do what you will with that.

Secondly, I really like the name Stephanie. I have known many chill and nice Stephanies, and so I felt the name had the right vibe. I mean, look at her:

The North Carolina is even stranger, honestly. I looked up 'States in the US with most vineyards' and NC is surprisingly high on that list. not in the top five but it's up there compared to other states. It was also one of the states that weren't near California (because LC would've been a very different story if Steph was from California lol) and wasn't right next to New York, because I knew I wanted her to have a 'far away from home' vibe, and being from Connecticut or Pennsylvania didn't quite have the vibe of 'wow this is so different from my home' lol

I guess I also just thought that Stephanie being southern was a weirdly fitting vibe. It just works. She's so Miley/Hannah Montana coded if you don't think about it at all.

After researching it a bit, it grew on me. Like the Appalachian culture had great potential for adults disregarding (or maybe superstitiously believing) Stephanie's 'monster stories', the nature felt right for her being a Dionysus kid (Dionysus loves himself a mountain), and there was something weirdly charming about the image of driving through endless fields and wooded areas, only to turn off the road and drive down a very long gravel path to finally emerge at Whitland: A pocket universe in its own right. It just felt right, without even really needing to think too hard about it, so I went with it.

Out there in an alternate dimension Stephanie from Pennsylvania exists. In another one is Stephanie from California. Scary stuff.

I haven't watched any of Wrestle Dynasty at all, but I woke up to the news that Takeshita has apparently signed a contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling? But the most surprising part is that he is also still under contract with both DDT Pro and with AEW?

This news really shocked me. I don't think I've ever heard of a wrestler simultaneously having contracts with three different companies, let alone three different companies on two different continents.

I personally have mixed feelings about it - Takeshita's an amazing wrestler, but I'm not a fan of the constant promotional crossover thing, and I'd rather see him build up a story in one place than have him doing short appearances at three different promotions. But he sure wrestled a lot more in NJPW than DDT in 2024, and while I don't follow AEW I think the same might be true of AEW, so I suppose it makes a certain kind of sense.

i still don’t want to talk about what the work of fiction is but i legit just got reminded today that while it’s been like over 15 years that i did want to check this thing, the character that “caught my interest like 7 years ago” actually caught my interest 12 years ago. i’ve been in hysterics for the past ten minutes because i’m realizing it’s been over a decade that once in a while i had humored starting this thing, and that while it definitely started out of another place, it’s been 12 years that steadily it was because this character was standing out to me enough that i wanted to get into it, but then forgot all about it, and now i’m out there actually getting into it after a *dream that came out of nowhere about this chara popping up while i haven’t thought of them in years* and i’m just.

A Brief Rundown of the IRL Ithaca Saga (to the best of my memory, in probably not chronological order)

jorge (creator, odysseus) decided it'll be cool to celebrate the ithaca saga with the epic cast via a trip to ithaca, greece

surely nothing can go wrong

mico (telemachus) seemingly found out about the trip with the rest of the fandom. he proceeded to plot a trip to ithaca

the epic cast dealt with multiple broken vans and missed a ferry by one minute. they had to cancel a stream because they were too exhausted

mico made it onto a plane

ithaca got hit by a typhoon, forcing them to move another stream indoors

mico got banned from tiktok. it was reversed

mason (tireseas) asked luke (zeus) to stop the rain. luke refused

the crew hiked up to odysseus' palace. they ran into a roadblock. mason looked into the future and did not see a way around it. (they found a way around it)

the crew found a well and sang their epic songs into it. except jp (crew) who just sang happy birthday

janani (aphrodite) also sang "royal we" into the well

anna (penelope) made it onto the plane to fly out to ithaca

hermes (troy) decided to take a plane to ithaca like a normal human instead of teleporting. he got side-eyed by a woman at the airport as he slept sprawled out in a chair. this quickly became a meme

hermes arrived in ithaca to the delight of everyone except jorge. mico also appeared in his videos. mico still had not updated anything after getting on the plane

anna's connecting flight got cancelled, leaving her stranded in a fancy hotel. she struggled to find the toilet in her hotel room

To the great grief of adoring fans, a famous rock band's singer announces that he's retiring from the band, and leaving the public life altogether. He's done being famous, and is going to go into hiding to live a normal regular life somewhere else.

About a year later the band gets a new singer, and she looks almost exactly like a female version of their previous main vocalist, and a huge explosion of celebrity gossip and speculation begins about the new singer being the old singer, who transitioned. There appears to be proof both ways, both of them have some exact same physical quirk or way of moving that's inherent to a person and would be really hard to fake, the same natural hair colour (though one of them dyes their hair), but the new singer also doesn't appear to have one tiny distinctive tattoo the former one had, though she doesn't dress as revealing on stage as he did, so it's hard to say. The band refuses to answer the question in any way, that's personal and invasive, and the vocalist herself pretty much just goes "wouldn't you want to know, weatherboy" about it. The confusion seems to be delightful and hilarious to her.

Eventually it turns out that she isn't him. She's his twin sister, who happens to be trans.
