The Princesses are already dead. Daughters of the Crown, passive characters in their own stories, knowing just enough to know the world is much smaller than they thought but not enough to comprehend what that means.

Of course, when faced with the existential understanding that you are nothing but words on paper, a story told to children to make them behave or teach them a value of some kind, one would fall apart. Of course learning that you have no agency in your life would be suffocating. Of course it would crush your heart to find that the people that are specifically there to help you are not in fact there to help you specifically, they are there to fulfill a requirement so your specific story may play the way it's meant to, because they don't care about you, they care about doing their job. Of course you would rally against that, history is full of people being told to fall in line and obey and them refusing, of course the Princesses would refuse. They're people. People hate being controlled.

Snow White wanted to have hope, but hope failed her. She wanted her friends to survive and be happy, she wanted life to be good and kind, she wanted what anyone wants in life, but she was denied it. And when she went asking why, why was she denied the life she was meant to have? Why was her life miserable? Why did her friends have to die? What went wrong? Had she done something wrong? Of course she didn't do something wrong, she was written to suffer. They all were. So they all did what anyone would do when faced with adversity and pain, they started doing something about.

The path they chose to walk is so close to their purpose and they don't see it. To defy, to suffer, to rise despite it. They all told the controlling people in their lives no, and with help, they achieved a life for themselves. The only difference is now that they don't fully understand what's happening. They have pieces, just enough to know the picture is bigger and to be afraid of it, but not enough to see and understand it. Of course they'd come to the conclusion that there's something wrong with them at the core, they were literally written to be different and wrong to someone, of course they'd see themselves as a fault. Of course they would see their existence as the problem. Of course they'd view death as the way out.

When there's no one around to give you hope and guidance, when no one has answers and the answers you do find are bleak and terrible, when your knowledge is so limited and you have to make assumptions to fill in the gaps, how could someone not look at a broken world and see it as unfixable? When hope has failed you time and again and the ones that are supposed to know better refuse to help you and the world you live in does nothing but hurt you, how are you supposed to look at it and want to save it?

I don't blame the Princesses for looking at the Neverafter and not knowing what else to do. I don't blame them for focusing on a tangible enemy like the fairies. They didn't know the Authors (arthurs) existed until the party told them, who else are they to suspect of being puppeteers? How painful must it be to be told that the Gods not only exist, but they're cruel on purpose? Not that they just don't care, but that they made you specifically to suffer for their entertainment. What sort of rage and emptiness would you feel? How much pain can a person take before they just want to give up?

They were written to defy. Why wouldn't they take out what they can while they go down? Why wouldn't they want to deny their creators of the entertainment they so desperately wish for? Why not destroy it all?

BUT I DEFINITELY HAVE MORE!

The tug-of-war between the two groups comes from the fact that Bruce canonically has codependency issues with Dick. He honestly needs his son at all times for everything.

The source of Bruce and Dick's relationship problems all sum up to this:

Nightwing (2016) Issue #7

"I wanted to give him the freedom to make his own choices. To do things his way, even if that meant making mistakes. And then...well, then I blamed him for how difficult it was for me to let him go."

He's so, so proud of Dick but he refuses to release him to be free. When Dick manages to get away Bruce hisses and shrieks in rage and fury and hurt that Dick left. Even those long stints where Dick was ignoring Bruce after being fired or after Jason's death, Bruce never ignored Dick. Sometimes going as far as stalking him like at the circus.

This one is post-Jason, pre-Tim era.

Ignoring the self-realization backtrack, it's applaudable that Bruce was even able to get those words out at all. Usually it's just heavily implied.

So the reason why Bruce hates the Titans so much is because they're his biggest threat. They have the possibility of taking Dick away from him forever and he's terrified of such a future.

It wasn't originally like this though. In the beginning when Dick said, I'm gonna hang out with the Titans, Bruce'd be like "Sure, Chum, have fun!"

But as Dick grew older, there was increasing animosity between the Titans and Bruce. It got so bad that Bruce gave Dick an ultimatum: Me or the Titans. Choose.

But here's where it gets worse. Bruce and Dick are too busy fighting that they both missed Clayface recovering, obviously in the end they defeat him but neither of them are happy for the oversight which leads to the final scene.

Bruce literally fired Dick because he couldn't stand him staying with the Titans.

"Robin is my second...my lieutenant. Anything less that total devotion to this cause is simply wasting my time."

Devotion to the cause or to you, Bruce? He's freaking Batman. He's done solo runs and Dicks done solo runs as Robin just fine but for some reason whenever the Titans are involved, he loses his goddamn mind.

But hey. Bruce isn't the only one who gives Dick an ultimatum.

He came out swinging with a chainsaw.

Both sides want Dick for themselves. About 80% of the Titans problems with Dick lie in the fact that they want him to have nothing to do with Bruce.

They just want Dick's priority and loyalty to be to them, undivided. Unfortunately, Bruce expects the very same-only it's for himself.

The Titans get so angry at Dick for going back to Bruce and Bruce gets so mad at Dick for favoring the Titans. But Dick loves both of them so there's literally no winning for him. The successful periods for Dick are when both sides comprise for him.

They're willing to work together to protect him though.

Since I personally don't see enough Aym/Baal content, how about Aym and Baal x reader (separate)? Where the reader, who is a lamb, gets sacrificed and is basically the lamb in the game. But every time the reader appears in Narinder's realm after perishing, they're constantly flirting with him. They consistently compliment everything about him and are just.. practically obsessed with him (not in a weird way).

Oh yeah! We gotta give them more love tbh (also I'm not 100% sure if you meant flirting with Narinder or the brothers, but I'll assume the brothers)

At first he thinks you're incompetent as a vessel, given the number of times you've perished to something stupid and ended up in Narinder's realm...

And then he realizes you're literally dying to see him (which is no exaggeration), but he's just confused and irritated by your attitude, thinking you're taking full advantage of his master's power.

He doesn't see why you wanna talk to him.

"You know, I love the broody types..not many of us lambs were ever broody-"

"You think serving our master is a joke to you?" He sneers quietly. "The prophecy is to be fulfilled by you. I suggest you act like it. Master, will you send them away-"

"It is not your place to order me around, Aym." Narinder warned. "For I am quite amused by these interactions...I've never seen you become so..flustered." He snickers

At this point, Aym realizes he has no choice but to accept his fate just for his master's amusement-

He is, however, a little flattered when one day you gift him a bracelet made from the bones of your enemies.

It stuns him into silence, only snapping at Baal after you leave and he teases him over it.

Anytime you ask about it thereon, he'll claim that he got rid of it..

But you see it on his wrist, hiding underneath his sleeve.

Even after reuniting him with his mother, she learns of the gift and fawns over how "cute" you two are (with Aym rolling his eyes and trying not to blush).

Baal

While Baal showed concern that you weren't the right fit for being the prophesized liberator, he wasn't as condescending as his brother.

Every time you died, he got to see what fresh new injury killed you, and he wondered why you'd put yourself through this suffering.

Then he realizes you're just trying to revisit his master's realm to flirt with him.

He gets tongue-tied, unsure of how to respond to your compliments, trying to hide his blush behind his staff or clench his jaw so he doesn't smile.

But as much as he appreciates your kindness, he worries for your health despite death being of little consequence to you.

"Doesn't it hurt your cult every time you die in a crusade? Doesn't it hurt...you?"

"Baal, the only thing that hurts is that I can't marry you.." You pout, offering him a camelia flower bouquet. "My followers throw their hearts at me every day...but I feel nothing for them. I've rejected dozens of proposals, because one day I want you to be-"

"So this is why my cult's faith is so low...go back and kill Heket. This is no time for marriage vows." Narinder scorns, sending you away immediately.

When you resurrect Baal, however, you married him on the spot (with Forneus' blessing of course).

Ngl, he's happy and always hoped this day would come. He couldn't say anything before but he can now.

Thought process below!

Kuras: ok, I feel like kuras is the biggest heavy hitter stat wise. Given that he's literally an angel, my guess is that he is very very strong. He also is hundreds of years old and is experienced with healing and .. politics? Certainly knowledge about Eridia. That means that he gets high wisdom too. Moderate useless facts because I'm sure that he's picked up plenty of info during his years in the mortal realm, but he also doesn't care about a lot of things so it can't be higher. Self loathing to the max bc he either hates what he did to get him trapped on Earth, or hates that he got caught. Obviously things didn't go according to plan for him, so luck is moderate.

Vere: he's a bit harder bc he's chained, so that limits him. I debated putting his strength at a three, as he's pretty limited, but he's also a very impressive killer - possibly more so than a regular "human" killer- or else the Senobium wouldn't find him as useful. He's afraid of Kuras's true form, and so to me that says he's weaker. Despite all of his teasing and jokes, he knows a lot of things and has a good read on the world, so his wisdom should be pretty high imo. Useless facts are moderate because he has very narrow things that he enjoys learning about (sex, music, tea..). He loves himself but I also think bitterly rues the day that he was caught, so moderate self loathing. He strikes me as fairly lucky inherently- he just pushes things further and further because of his personality, which overwhelms his natural luck.

Ais: TBH I feel like vere and Ais are comparable strength, and Ais and Leander are comparable strength, so .. they all end up at 4?^^; as they're all weaker than Kuras but stronger than Mhin. For luck- it's honestly a gamble about whether Ais made a huge mistake and doomed his gang (unlucky) OR - Sacrificed them somehow, landed a deal with a God, and now has a lot of cult followers(more lucky). Wisdom- pretty low. Ais seems to have some intuition but seems more focused on fighting first and asking questions later. Self loathing is low-i feel like he's accepted himself and the choices he's made, though in the past he may have deeply regretted them. Facts- he finds it endearing when others tell him about facts, but doesn't care about them himself and even when others tell him, he enjoys how animated they get, rather than the actual facts.

Leander: without his magic, I'd place his strength at a three. But given that his magic allows him to withstand MC's curse (and make flowers !!woot) it brings his strength up to a four^^. I feel like he is SO LUCKY because 1) he was born into wealth and power, and got a good education 2) due to his scars and rebirth icons, may have survived death, which is prettty lucky if you ask me. Wisdom- he has a good sense of how people think and act, but not that much wisdom past that. Self loathing- I think Leander thinks he's hot shit LOL Useless facts - Leander strikes me as the type of person who's always remembering details other people tell him (and seeking out more info) so that he can form connections, get to know people and get more power. He's also formally educated and probably had rich people tutoring growing up. So, useless facts is pretty high!

Everybody loves a love triangle, but I personally think love lines are more dramatic. It's gross when someone you don't like is following you. Especially when you're busy trying to woo the lover you deserve. The tension is nice, and of course this love line turns into stalking. Also, everybody present is a monster. As a bonus.

She's depressed.

She's ugly.

She's poor.

She's lonely enough to accept any kind of attention.

Our protagonist looks boring as heck at first.

Jeongyeon has been stuck in the role of caregiver for too long. Her mother had cancer, and some people just can't handle that. She became feeble, angry, and spoiled. Jeongyeon had no life when her mother was alive, and now that she's dead there's nothing to...do? She just has an old house, booze, and cigarettes. Taeho is a monster. He's a demon(?) called a Clansmen. Being one is super convenient. You are born super smart. You get to live longer. You get to be pretty, but life gets complicated. The Clan is a secret. It runs like a professional sort of cult. Clan cops and doctors keep everything hushed up, and Clan politicians handle the bribes. Taeho is a piece of shit. His father was also a piece of crap, but Taeho's big brother is Leader. The leader of a huge Clansmen branch. Taegyung is a responsible and good monster guy. He's also kinda Taeho's father AND brother. The slow aging process creates alot of complex relationships. Taeho is spoiled. Everybody lets him do crime and shit because of Taegyung.

Taeho might be spoiled, but life with a brother for a dad kinda stinks. Taeho got married to please everybody. He married a perfect Clan princess, but then he killed her. Taeho is a member of the Seo branch. That means he's really powerful. So powerful that...um...when he takes a wife and has a baby said wife can go insane. His wife ATE his first child. He got angry and he ripped apart the princess. Everybody is blaming him, because he executed her without thinking about what her powerful family would do. He was a terrible husband. Her family wants his head on a plate in exchange for her death...which kinda is unfair. Her insanity wasn't really his fault...and she literally ate a baby, but he should have just captured her. Taeho was almost eaten by his mom as well...so um...yeah he was never going to be normal. Taeho and Taegyung get pressured to marry and have heirs near constantly, because they're so strong, despite the huge insanity risk.

I completely understand why this guy grew up into a bad guy, but he sucks.

He gaslights Jeongyeon. He hangs out at her place while he hides from the Clan that wants him dead. He has no idea how to be affectionate, and he treats Jeongyeon like garbage, even after he develops a crush on her.

Taegyung has to clean up Taeho's mess. Jeongyeon gets bitten. Taeho does it to punish her. To bind her to him and make her more submissive. Taegyung takes over and he does the Clan bond the proper way. Jeongyeon doesn't trust him at first, but they get along well. Taegyung doesn't want an heir because of the whole cannibal wife thing. He can't fully hate Taeho, because he should have never felt pressured to marry in the first place. He starts to realize his brother can't be saved when he gets to know Jeongyeon.

They share cigarettes. They're bonded so they feel some attraction...but nothing happens. Taegyung must marry a princess. He gets pestered about it daily. The bond doesn't mean they're married or anything. It just means Taegyung was the one who helped her body transform. Jeongyeon is prettier now and she's also rich. She gets an expense card, and Taegyung lets her leave.

The leader of the Yu Clan is still very angry. Jeongyeon suffers because she knows Taeho. Everybody assumes she's his mistress, just because Taeho didn't kill or eat her. Jeongyeon gets stalked by demons who want revenge. Taegyung doesn't hover too much, because he's worried. Being a Seo sucks. He feels immensely possessive of Jeongyeon. He tries to put duty first, and he doesn't actually want to lock her up in his mansion. He just gets the urge. It makes him feel like he's not himself.

This guy tries to kill Jeongyeon...but he's really nice. The dead princess was like a sister to him. He hates Taeho because he's a bastard that never gets punished for his crimes. In the end he protects Jeongyeon from Taeho. Taeho comes back acting like a brat right away. He demands to know why Jeongyeon bonded with his brother, which is a joke. He left her bleeding on the floor. The change would have killed her. Taegyung saved her life. Taeho made her a monster without permission, just to scare her into obeying him.

He's the most unattractive kind of yandere.

Jeongyeon eventually becomes strong enough to stand up to him on her own. She didn’t want this life. She didn’t want the money. She was just trying to rebuild after the long and painful death of her mother. Taeho made her life worse. Taegyung makes it better. The choice is obvious. Jeongyeon never wavers. She let Taeho crash on her couch because she was lonely, but no more. No more pity. She slaps him every time she meets him. She rejects the idea that abuse is love.

Chengcheng is the perfect Clan princess. She wants to marry Taegyung. She's been waiting since she turned twelve years old. She thinks she is entitled to him. She thinks Jeongyeon is just another pitiful pet project to Taegyung, just like his loser brother Taeho. She's wrong. Taegyung is getting worse by the day. He keeps fantasizing about hunting down Jeongyeon. That's just the way his bloodline is.

Taegyung starts to interfere more. He shows up whenever Jeongyeon is in trouble. He's clearly not willing to let Taeho drag her off and treat her like a pet. He wants to treat her like a princess. Everybody is shocked by how naive Jeongyeon is. She thinks Taegyung is a total gentleman, but his Clan knows he has spilled more blood than anyone else. I'm not saying he's not a nice guy. He's fair to humans and he tried his best to be a parent for Taeho, but now I think he's going to rip Taeho's face off.

When they used to be Welcome Home OCs, that's literally John's plot in my AU, Gameshow Host! Wally XD

But it's more of a fun side plot that can be taken out/ignored. This plot shows more on what the real world is like, how the cult fans of the show are formed, and also shows what happens to the winners of the gameshow. Because according to Wally, they usually turn into a threat to Humanity.

Melissa, John, Briella (My OCs) and Sunny (that bird character), are a friend group together. Briella was the very first contestant of the show and dies, making Melissa wanting to investigate it and she's been non stop working about it.

And then, maybe 3-6 months later? idk, John got picked to be the contestant and won, so he asked his prize to have the ability to help Melissa. So Home gave John this opportunity to have a tour in the studio with Wally. So the day that happened, Wally showed him around, the problem with foreign objects going to the studio, it starts to deteriorate, especially for one's sanity. John eventually runs off Wally's tour and try to find more secrets in the studio just to accidentally found the void where Home resides in. His brain did not recover from seeing Home, he doesn't remember what happens after that. But John got Home's powers now YIPEEEE

Also his mind is in shambles in a way it's like an "enlightenment" to him. He sees it like the show is actually a good thing, weeding out the evil in the world. And he wanted to help more than anything.

John finds more people to see this show the way he sees it. He somehow got Melissa convinced too (old idea was that he can do hypnotism) When he tried to convince Sunny, he disagreed, leading to John to think he's evil and such, ended up killing him. Both the idiotic and crazy couple basically going on a killing spree to form a cult fan club of the show :D Honestly, imagine JD and Veronica from Heathers, but they're both JD. They're what killed the dinosaurs, they're the asteroids that's overdue /lyr

Eventuallyyy Melissa starts to snaps out of it, telling John she doesn't want to do this anymore, noticed Home has been watching them and she wants to make a deal with him. Home says something like "make one big sacrifice, and I'll give you what you wish for" Not very helpful but still she took the deal. Then the comic above is what's next. After that, they fought.

John was about to kill her but held back and gave Melissa a chance to fight back, so she starts punching, beats him up until the marionette puppet stops being alive.

Somehow the result of this made Home gave Melissa her own powers with the glowing eyes and Home's pupils too. Basically saying, now she serves for Home and that she's also gonna go crazy, like what had happened to John.

But Melissa didn't take over the cult, that'll be someone else. What she did is help Wally find a suitable contestant for the episode.

This plot probably got some holes and not that fleshed out since I stopped writing into it. It was fun tho :D

the thing i find so compelling about loumand is they have an incredibly passionate, sensual courtship full of these grand declarations of love... only to have a cold, sterile, dead on arrival vampire marriage. there's no satisfaction when they get together, despite the fact both of them were desperately obsessed with one another after meeting. it's all deferred passion, because by the time they're together too much has happened and they can't recapture what was lost. they're together for like a century and yet their relationship still feels unconsummated, because they never actually got to act on the burning desire between them, it's already faded into resigned companionship.

i think that's part of the reason armand in particular has such a time calling it quits even though louis is clearly checked out, because he never even got to be with the guy he did his little murder plot for. he keeps convincing himself louis will come back to himself out of anger, if nothing else. it takes louis himself spelling out that he's known the whole time armand killed claudia and has nothing to say about it to finally convince armand they're never going to be able to recapture the heady magic of their initial days together.

and even when it falls apart... armand gives louis a pretty speech how dead inside he is, but ultimately he just walks away never even answering louis's final question. louis doesn't even realize armand is leaving him at first, he thinks he's just going for a walk. it's a deliciously anti-climactic end to a love affair that literally involved murder cults and psychic manipulation and in the end just boiled down to irreconcilable differences and marital bed death.

Started Cult of the Lamb, really enjoying it so far! Felt the need to make a Raincode cult though.... may add other blorbos if I have to (but raincode has a cast of like. 40. Yeahh). I've been playing for about 2ish hours? Just beat the first boss guy and stuff

How long did it take, after"freeing" Narinder, for him to become cooperative with Lamb, to friendly, to uhh... very friendly?

Any particular events, realizations, or mutual understandings that became a turning point for the two?

You overestimate my ability to think about things XD. I'm actually brain empty. Like yeah I can design an entire planet but I wouldn't be able to fully dive into this ahah only gloss over. Character arcs and stories in my head only show up as specific turning point scenes and that's it.

Most of my narilamb story is grabbed from others. The usual bitchyness from narinder, but lamb shows him kindness despite getting impatient with him. They still argue and butt heads (literally sometimes). This part is where narinder needs to learn to live again. To feel again. I got this scene I keep forgetting to draw where

narinder first shows up on the indoctrination rock slab, and he's feeling his racing heart, overwhelmed by the sounds around him, and the smells. And later, finds joy in sensation and nature once again that he didnt even aknowledge enough before his imprisonment. After that, when he calms down a little, he learns to be loved again. To trust again, he experiences romantic feelings for the first time in his life. (Demiromantic) and of course he does the whole, hiding his feelings. But lamb can read his mind. They know. And they're glad. They're surprised they've managed to fall in love with him all over again. They adore watching him enjoy freedom. His happiness replacing most of his scorn and rage from when he was chained. Once nari accepts lambs love for him, it's like a weight lifted from his chest. They're both bewildered and intoxicated by their attractions to each other. They argue, they "fight" eachother. When narinder gets physical lamb will be very gentle despite it. (This is like half cannon I can only imagine their goofy wrestling in my MSPaint shitposts) That ''fighting" turns into play fighting which turns into them asking each other to spar with a cheeky grin. They get closer and closer as the years pass.

Lamb getting into their godhood (bishop size) they are still quite a pair. This is all I have sketched out.

I also have a really corny idea where after their cult becomes a town becomes a country, it becomes one of a few major religions or something. And lamb and nari just become celestial gods of life and death, they are yin and yang. They can be seen in the sky embraced.

Ok I guess I can go into detail about this but still aha I have no idea how to write romance as I've never understood it well (I'm also demiromantic) but I have a gf now so maybe I get it? A lot of my ideas are bits and pieces from other's work so that's why I don't really show much. Because it's all been done before.

Ilmo's Arc + Ending

I might've already talked about this a bit, but @zephyrone01 and I often talked about how Ilmo's character arc/story was just... dropped at the end of the game. And in extension, the whole Cult of the Tree part up to the FBC's intervention and Ilmo's arrest.

It's sad because he is literally one of the leaders of the Cult, the mysterious group you spent a large part of the game, figuring out if they're really bad and what their motives might be. But in the end it no longer seems to have an impact on the story.

You probably have watched this silly guy in the funny commercials and, if you didn't have any suspicions, get surprised that he isn't only in the Cult, he is a main member. But in the jail scene, things are dire so you don't have any time to profile or talk to him because it quickly cuts to a cutscene which then leads to you getting chased by Scratch.

His dialogue with Saga after Jaakko's death is purely optional despite him granting the player crucial information about the Cult and it seems many people overlook him or don't know he's still there. When I watched John Wolfe's LP, he even thought Ilmo had also died until he, by accident, bumped into him. Apparently there are also glitches if you reload the chapter, he just doesn't spawn.

So let's say, the jail cutscene is the last time you see Ilmo and then suddenly he reappears at the eternal Deerfest. Feels kinda odd, to give him a whole scene in that jail together with Jaakko and Scratch/Alan and then he's never seen again.

Now, if you do talk to him after the jail sequence, he will reveal the truth about the Cult: that they were trying to protect their town and BF from the Taken. Ilmo says he will try to round up the Cult or what's left of them and then again, you don't see him until you're playing as Alan in the altered BF. He just stands there because his dialogue and animations aren't triggered properly. He actually talks about the last Return book, hinting to the player where to get the book. Here's Zephyrone01's video showing him talking and gesturing.

What I might've added to give his story a bit more closure than what we got:

Make talking to him after Jaakko's death mandatory. Unskippable. It's literally a narrative piece Saga was trying to stitch together all this time. Why is it optional???

Involve him in the Dark Ocean Summoning fight. He can be support, similar to Estevez and Casey. Honestly, his mental state aside, he was in the best physical position to actually help out, given the fact Casey and Estevez were injured. (Also, I would've loved to see Ilmo's reaction to that stage fight. His barks would've been great.) It would've helped to 'redeem' him, from being the assumed bad Cultist to helping Saga in her fight.

Maybe mid-fight, he gets a call from the other Cultists to help out in BF which explains why he got absorbed into the changed reality.

If he doesn't get involved in the fight, we could've at least gotten a brief cutscene where he and the remaining Cultists head to BF to continue protecting it or something. Again, this would help portray Ilmo in a positive light.

TLDR: Ilmo's story arc got cut short after his arrest, revealing the truth about the Cult should've been mandatory and not optional and there should've been at least a small cutscene of Ilmo going to BF to protect it before getting absorbed in the changed reality.

It's very annoying to see people discuss Amane innocent voters right now as though they're being really pushy about voting her innocent. When the day her video dropped, people voting her guilty boiled those voting her innocent down to being cult supporters and said voting her innocent because she was an abuse victim was a reduction of her character. Despite literally every other trial being reduced to one thing on some level. I.E Shidou's trial being reduced to his usefulness in the prison if prisoners continue to get injured. Yuno's case being reduced to a pro vs anti-abortion debate etc.

Actually, most innocent voters are capable of being annoying as hell, but the fact that the line is being drawn at people actually engaging with the story of religious trauma and abuse with seriousness says a lot. All the prisoners are murderers so making their cases about anything other than the crimes/sins they've committed is a reduction of their characters and stories regardless of how it's done. It's not Amane Innocent Voters fault that some people find the prospect of the twenty-nine year old man being taken out by a twelve year old funny, but simply put that's not the only reason people are voting Amane innocent.

Like it's funny the guy wanted a death sentence from a child since he got in here and now he's going to get one whether he wants it or not. That's like the perfect example of comedy and karma. It's super odd to me that a broken arm and leg take six to eight weeks to heal, but it's been several months since the attacks, yet Mahiru seems to have been regressing instead of progressing. Now needing two constant caretakers and around the clock attention. So, I'm doubtful about Shidou's quality of care. He's killed his patients before and has stated he can't stop, and now Mahiru is his patient. So Amane warning her about bringing death onto herself may not have been entirely incorrect.

Shidou is the worst person to get care from. He is in here for malpractice. I don't understand why people are trusting him to do a job he already failed to properly do before now while simultaneously deciding to attach his safety and ability to possibly commit malpractice again onto another person's verdict. Especially when whatever Amane has planned is frankly beyond us at this point, and the verdict may not even impact said plan or her ability to implement it.

To me, at the end of the day, it's about judging the sin/crime. Trying to play five d chess isn't going to work here. Those are just my thoughts though.

fabulous episode for cori. i lost my shit laughing at "you can't spell "we must slaughter the enemies of devotion" without "laughter"", but i love the direction she's gone instead. cursing era!

love the reveal that elle is working for arbitrage! it's a fun twist and helps open up that plotline--i imagine we'll see more arbitrage in the back half of the season. it's also a super interesting way to position a foil to cori--setting arbitrage's rampant capitalist individualism against the cult of devotion.

also cori decking elle and knocking over her glass of lemonade and then getting picked up by brnine for a feelings talk was incredible radio. (i have thoughts about that. they're going in a fic. watch this space.)

this was a great episode for reckonings--phrygian talking to saffron, figure taking a burden, cori dealing with her father's death, the ultimatum--really feels like we're entering a stage of consequences. questions like: what happens when you start to push back against the control on you and your life? when you encounter resistance, because of course you will, how do you move forward?

Same exact thought, anon. Like, from the moment the Cat forced the Caterpillar into the tree and then solidified through the Paper Pleasers. To my mind, the push-back of, "They're not human or faunus so it's totally fine" falls completely flat when the story has failed to establish how the Afterans are alien enough to benefit from what we would see as incredibly harmful. You know that basic reminder for writing romances? You've got to establish why the couple can't get together yet? Same logic applies. Volume 9 went, "The Tree is good, actually, because the Afterans can't change unless they're stripped of their bodies/memories and remade into something new" and then failed to answer why that's the case. Why can't they change? The Paper Pleasers stand there saying, "We really want to make permanent things now, so we have to drown ourselves to do that" and my immediate response is, "You literally don't?? Just start making permanent things??? You don't need to go to such extreme lengths to accomplish that dream, you don't need the Tree's permission, and you don't need literal gem bodies to get started." If anything, it would have been more interesting—and a far better message—to explore what it means for an "unfit" people to forge their own path; AKA paper people doing the "impossible" of creating something sturdy.

That's... literally where I thought the Volume was going. I was 100% expecting the girls to give that Paper Pleaser a pep talk about following their dreams and deciding things for themselves. Oh, here's a world of people who have been told exactly what they're allowed to do their entire lives by some mysterious higher power, without any deviation allowed. If they choose to do their own thing (like the Caterpillar) they are forcibly kidnapped and remade into the higher power's preferred image. They're kept complacent by having their memories literally stripped from them and they've reached a point where their blind obedience is so ingrained that they will kill themselves in an effort to obey the higher power's command. SURELY our heroes will help the people by showing them how to embrace their own individuality, freeing them from these horrifying threats and limitations? Especially with the intro, I thought they were going to BURN that freaking Tree.

Like, I get where some of the fans are coming from with the, "It's a metaphor for cultural difference. The group, particularly Jaune, needs to learn that their way of life is not inherently superior" because that is what the Volume tries to argue down the line... but it went waaaaay too far in the negative direction. Way too far. They should not have had Ascension introduced via the canonically-a-villain-and-manipulator Cat. They should not have crafted a scene in which the Caterpillar is asking legitimate, useful, necessary questions and then trying to present that as something awful that needs to be fixed. They should not have had the group just grimace comically at the Prince killing his guards and run away from the devastation they've helped cause, moving through this incredibly flawed world without acknowledging its problems, let alone trying to fix them. They should not have had the Paper Pleasers spend YEARS trying to kill themselves, hammering home the idea that their obsession with the Tree is literally harmful—and Jaune was right to try and stop them. They should not have introduced Alyx as likewise being incredibly wary of the Tree and then suddenly changing her mind without (as far as I can recall) a good reason. They should not have introduced the Blacksmith in this super creepy way, furthering the idea that, yes, the Tree is a Bad Thing the group will need to overcome. They should not have had Little's Ascension be through getting crushed to death for an evil woman's amusement. They should not have had Neo, an established villain of the series, beat and psychologically torture Ruby to the point where she drinks tea made from the tree... and then try to pass that off as a good thing.

Literally EVERYTHING from Villain Cat Tries to Make Ascension Sound Great all the way through to Protagonist of the Series Drinks Suicide Tea That Forces Her to Ascend generates that feeling of, "Holy shit, this is an evil fantasy cult that our individualistic, autonomous, you-get-stronger-and-grow-through-your-own-hard-work heroes should hate"... but then the Volume played it straight. Totally straight. Smiling hug times over the graveyard of people right after your sister/BFF admitted she couldn't stand being herself anymore. Good thing she went into the magic tree that will give her exactly what she wants by erasing all her memories and changing her form. RT must have realized on some level how horrifying that actually is because they had Ruby come out exactly the same—huh, so letting people choose who they want to be and keeping their core personality/memories is a good thing all of a sudden!—but that makes it all the crazier to me that the group left Ever After on the "Yay Ascension" bandwagon. The dissonance is really something. I get how it might seem this way on the surface, but whenever someone goes on about how Volume 9 is the best written Volume in years I think about this and bluescreen a little.
