Head canon moment between Katniss and Peeta during CF

Imagine this conversation but between Katniss and Peeta after the first games.

Picture them in a random moment during the victory tour, when they are constantly together and Katniss is just thinking about convincing Snow of her love and doesn’t really have time to wonder if her feelings could be actually true.

Of course we know that she’s delusional, so even though she isn’t direct about it she’s always clinging on him so you can connect the dots. (she can’t sleep without him on the train, so I guess that during the ceremonies she doesn’t leave his side even for a second)

Now imagine a moment when they’ve snuck out and they are kissing or doing whatever just so they can stay away for a little. Mid kiss she stops and just stares at him, not a single rational thought behind those eyes other than “oh he’s just so steady and warm and I’m so comfortable and his eyes are so blue”; you know, the silly things she always says.

At the same time Peeta is just watching her and doesn’t understand why she’s looking at him like that. She’s just so cute with her mouth slightly open and looking at him with those eyes that appear like they’ve seen the most precious thing in the world, so for a moment he simply believes that this is true.

But then he remembers where they are, that she’s desperately trying to get over this tour, absolutely terrified of Snow and he feels selfish for thinking, even if for a moment, that she could be feeling something like this for him in these circumstances.

Still his heart is clenching in his chest, so in a moment of weakness he says:

“I wish you wouldn’t look at me like that”

It’s just a whisper so he hopes she didn’t hear, but it’s too late to retract what he just stated when she asks, immediately snapping out of her thoughts:

“Like what?”

“I don’t know”

He says, thinking about how to divert this conversation, but it’s too late, so he guesses he could just say it anyway

“Like you could love me”

I’m on TikTok and there’s currently a “Peeta Mellark Renaissance” happening, with lots of videos about how people are getting back into the Hunger Games and loving on Peeta all over again. Someone recommended a fic that’s the whole three THG books written from Peeta’s perspective. It’s called Peeta’s Games by igsygrace. Has anyone here read it? It’s on AO3. People are losing their minds over these fics on TikTok 😂

Surprise!!! I have a TikTok haha!! After a couple of weeks being all over the place I’m finally settling back down for a bit and creating silly little things huzzah!!
