It doesn't seem that long ago, the time when emo was used as a pejorative. There are a lot of ways that word can be interpreted. Ranging from a broad and diverse style of hard-core that puts emphasis on negative emotions. Or even a whiny brat that thinks emotions are unique and no one knows what it's like to be like them. Glaive falls somewhere in the middle. Not even being 18, glaive gives the impression he doesn't know exactly where he wants to fall on that spectrum. However, he is certainly reminiscent of the latter. His pop rock performances may be coming from the right place, but the lyrics make it so much more difficult to take him seriously on record.

First and foremost, he is clearly working with the right people. Glaive's craft is traditionally more aligned with hyperpop and digicore. He hasn't completed abandoned these roots as well. Many of the tracks here are undercut with the same variety of white noise that makes his music nondescript and keeps it from being 100% accessible. But don't take that as a sign that his work isn't easy to digest because it is. The track list is packed with adequately put-together pop rock nuggets, all made grimier by glaive vocals, his voice is very obviously underdeveloped. But he knows how to use it. Glaive makes good use of his dynamic range, making for a performance that grabs your attention. Compare this work to another from this year, Post Malone's already forgotten, monogamous 5th album Austin. Also, an uncharacteristic excursion into the pop rock fray. The fact that he played guitar on every track and his trademark love/hate relationship with downers are completely overshadowed by the horrendously bland production. Sucking all remaining life out of this comatose record. I care so much that i don't care at all is not like this.

The lyrics, on the other hand, range from passable and vague to immature and embarrassing. Possibly worst of which is the opener. The clumsily titled "oh are bipolar one or two?" Reads like an angsty adolescent trying to half ass their last words. But it comes across as tasteless and tacky. You can just sense the "this'll teach em!" underscoring each goodbye. Not one of them sounding sincere or from a place of genuine pain. His words of apathy and high school drama make me think of xxxtentacion in a bad way, and sam ray in a good way. The elements of Ray's genius shine through in his tendency to use simple words and ideas to create a larger whole. Each individual word serves a purpose to communicate his concerns and feelings. I care so much is clouded by an air of pretentiousness and self-indulgence

It is unclear where glaive will be by the time his next album comes out. He will presumably be an adult. His fans will also be a lot more mature. If he continues in his current trajectory, he may end up going nowhere. If he continues to change his approach to music, then he might just be ok. He might need to figure out what an ego is first, though.

james is very fascinated by muggle cameras. lily and regulus notice this of course and lily pitches an idea: to get james a camera for his birthday. they save up the money they need for a higher quality camera and wrap it up in a fancy box and present it to him on his birthday. the smile james gives them is worth every penny they spent.

they expected the obsession that came after. james took his camera everywhere, always taking pictures, not just of the the scenery or himself, but of his friends and family and most importantly of lily and regulus. what they didn't expect was that james had all of their photos printed and compiled them into an album, decorated it and drew little hearts and stars and flowers on it and wrote down little notes of what had happened the day the photos were taken. he revealed this album to them on their anniversary as a shared gift.

u ever think about how the kids aren’t alright is a love song to friendship and pete said favorite record is a love song to the fans, when talking about it he said ‘my favorites always feel a bit off and out of place- maybe that’s why i love you so’ and twin skeletons is a love song to him too, where he said ‘the world doesn’t make sense to me but i’d rather it not make sense when i am lying next to you’, and maybe abap is an album that sings of all the devastation of love but is also bursting at the seams with the potential of love and love that comes to us in unorthodox ways, with all of its possible imperfections and deep devotions. maybe it is our time now if you want it to be, maybe i’m yours when it rains it pours, i spin for you, we could be immortals, if you just hold on. like maybe abap is one of the best most important albums ever do u ever think about it??

i think in the hamster wheel of my mind a big part of where people go wrong with eddie and his shitty garage band as an extension is that they for some bizarre reason think he's gene simmons metal when he's jack black metal. heavy metal. he's tenacious d metal. he's school of rock. he's stoner lord of the rings metal he nearly wore blue jeans and plaid. jack black literally in real life once said eddie was the best character bc he's heavy metal like him. Love how in Sweeny Todd Mrs. Lovett and Sweeny Todd are both freaks but they're freaks on completely different wavelengths.

The only reason Todd is bothering to continue breathing is for revenge. The only interest he has in anything or anyone around him is how they might help or hinder his cause. The only relationship he's legitimately emotionally invested in is with his straight razor.

Meanwhile Mrs. Lovett thinks she's in a rom-com where her old crush has come back to help her get her struggling restaurant on its feet, but her crush's ex keeps coming around trying to ruin everything.

Both of them go the whole musical without fully realizing that their brainworms are mutually unintelligible.

Antony is there in the background oblivious to this entire dynamic because he's too caught up in his own gothic romance plot to notice that the castaway he rescued is murdering people.
