Canon vs. AU Stories

So when it comes to fanfic, I have more experience with canon stories, but I enjoy reading and writing both canon and AU depending on the premise. For example, reading a firefighter!Dean story (and my love of Chicago Fire and other procedurals) led me to write Smoke Eater, my first full SPN AU story.

Writing an AU is more challenging in my opinion, because you're doing more extensive worldbuilding and character building than stories in a canon storyverse. Smoke Eater was much more challenging for me to write than Never Say Goodbye, for example, which is a soulmate AU within the canon SPN world.

A Book Maybe?

Second, do you only write fanfic or do you do your own personal writing too? I fully believe you could (and should) write a novel someday if you desired! You're so talented and I'd love to see what you could come up with.

Yes, I've actually been working on a novel for the past couple of years. I've taken a break from it since I've been writing so much fanfic lmao. But it's actually a a fantasy/romance. (Think Bridgerton and Howl's Moving Castle meets GoT, with less violence, lots of drama, and a bit more magic lol.) I had a major breakthrough in my draft and outline a few weeks ago, so my goal is to finish it this year! 💕💕

FMK With Dean, Beau, and Ben

Okay. Because I could never "Kill" any of these men, I'll sub that for "Kiss."

First, I'm gonna have to fuck Ben. Because...yeah. 🥵

(And sorry but aside from BMD-verse Ben, I think I'd tear my hair out with this guy as my partner, if he didn't break my back first. 🤣)

Next, I think I have to...and shit this is hard, but I'm gonna have to kiss Beau.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love this cowboy sheriff with all my heart and soul, and he would undoubtedly treat me right (once we got him into therapy for some of his trauma).

But...

Dean has held my heart the longest out of these three. He's flawed and has trauma beyond belief, but I'd love to give him the loving, comforting, supportive relationship he always deserved on the show. (And then fix that fucked up ending for sure.)

And for that reason, I'd have to marry Dean.

@luci-in-trenchcoats I would also love to hear your thoughts on writing canon vs. AU, since you've written so much of both. What's your favorite, and which do you find more challenging?

I think we should talk more about post canon Cas, Meg, Baltazar and Crowley dynamics

Post canon because it's easy to work on the dynamics after everything is said and done.

Both Batlh and Meg are important to Cas and see Crowley as a threat. And I am talking about a scenario where Crowstiel are testing waters with their relationship

For Meg, throughout their saty at the ward and after Cas came back from purgatory, Crowley was trying to kill him. She basically died to keep Crowley away from Cas

She won't have the best relationship with her killer after she comes back.

And when Baltazar died, Cas was working with Crowley and it was one of the biggest problems everyone had.

I think they both would be scared and worried and angry.

I also think Meg would come around quicker.

For a bunch of reasons

Killing baltazar is something that weighs a lot on Cas, he won't just approach Balth except for an apology.

and the way in which Castiel's relationship with heaven worsened. He is likely to confide more in Meg and Crowley and even Rowena.

Like from heaven's and Baltazar'a pov, they will have Cas spending time with demons he is too find of for the angels to be comfortable.

Also Meg would get a long with Rowena, I just know it and they will gang up on Crowley. And Crowley will make rulling Hell, hell by being the master of the Hellhounds.

That's something that would be interesting and funny and has lot of potential

Comming back to angels, they will take a long time to come around each other. There is a lot of pain and hurt and betrayal amongst them.

Also fixing relationships between Cas and angels will start only after Cas deals with the crushing guilt he lives with.

Like there is so much explored of these characters.

I have no idea why SPN writes insisted to making those two flannel clad nightmares the main characters, the only thing that can be done with them is

What you have here all makes sense and I agree, can be interesting to think about.

However I'm not sure it would be "post canon". Canon-wise, Jack brought back those Chuck killed-- but I don't get the sense he brought back "everybody who had ever been killed"? granted, I didn't really watch 5x19 and 5x20, and certainly not the "prequel", so I could be missing some information, but I wouldn't think post finale universe includes resurrected Meg and Balthazar.

The show's storylines for angels is done with such absolute malice and disdain it's pretty much impossible to explore it fairly without going non-compliant with canon. The whole thing about Balthazar is so senseless, that I just think it doesn't even deserve to be "resolved" as if it was an organic storyline. I intend to stay in denial, anyway.

So, you should definitely explore these things as you like, I'd only suggest there is no need to tie it to canon.

DISCLAIMER: Everyone who writes fic is awesome for doing it and should do what they want and my opinion doesn't matter because who gives a fuck what I think??? Write what makes you happy!!! It doesn't matter!!! If someone doesn't like it they can read something else or write their own fic!!!! I will jump to the defense of an author whose work I don’t even like if they get a bitchy entitled comment from some jerkweed who thinks every fic should be written exactly how THEY want.

That said, in MY opinion *breathes*:

Need more of Cas being a bitch. Cas can be cool sometimes yes and sometimes he can be awkward yes but also he doesn't answer the phone, and when you call him out for ghosting you he just shrugs and says he was busy. He rolls his eyes because you're exasperating and your voice is grating. He ate his own siblings a few times and also said he wanted them all to die because they were so annoying about free will in season 6. Like yes he does little puppy dog eyes and says “sorry” but then he does that same shit again for the 12 billionth time to everyone around him. 

Need more of Dean being that guy. The "I was right about the thing and you didn't listen to me and it blew up in your face, idiot" guy. Like a lot of fics that are Dean centric seem to focus on Dean's self worth issues and his belief that no one loves him and he doesn't deserve happiness because he is a Loser and Stupid and a Weapon and is parentified which is a thing that Dean deals with feeling, but he is also THEEE most annoying hoe when he is right about something and he will NOT shut the fuck up about it. There is a lot of "Nobody will ever love me I am not smart like Sammy ;_;" and I would love to read more "I am literally the actual psychic in this family and I can sniff out how this stupid plan you came up with will fail with the accuracy of a bloodhound looking for a corpse that is just 2 feet away and I will tell you exactly how dumb you are then the universe will prove me right after you go behind my back and I WILL remind you about it at least 5 times." Yes Dean has self-worth issues but also yes Dean will endlessly shit on beings who could kill him in the blink of an eye and will tell everyone they are fucking stupid. 

Nobody can write Sam. Not you, not me, not his fans, not his haters. If, by some miracle, a person CAN write Sam accurately, then they write the best Sam ever written in the entire universe and there are galaxies exploding in your brain as you read his inner monologue... until you get to the part where Dean or Cas becomes relevant and then you immediately have to click out of the fic because this author put every single stat they have into Sam Understanding and apparently there’s are Cas Understander and Dean Understander penalties for doing that of like negative 5 trillion. Worst takes you have ever seen in your entire life. It is too painful to continue reading. Horrible crimes are being committed.

If Kevin appears in a Sam-centric fic there is a good chance the author is mean about him. 

Now that we can exclude things from search results on AO3, I need a tag called: #Everyone gets an A+ on their Mental Health Report Card after the decades of torture and/or lobotomies except Dean who is the Only Fucked Up One Because He Just Can't Manage Like Everyone Else Can And He Is Explicitly Treated As A Burden For Having Trauma Instead Of The Idea Of Him Being A Burden Being Subverted. 

Fics where Cas shows up in the fic to randomly bring dues ex machina from randomcountry and then disappear again as unobtrusively and robotically as possible "You're welcome my friends Sam and Dean Winchester beep boop" *flies away on wings ignoring canon wing loss timeline* are just????  

I notice many authors don’t care/remember when Cas does and doesn’t have certain powers in canon and he flies everywhere and it leaves me very disoriented. Like who even IS a Cas who never lost his wings? That is a different guy.

Every time someone writes "Dean finally pulls his head out of his ass" in the summary of their destiel fic a cute baby animal gets swallowed up by quicksand. 

Making Benny evil is a self-report that you don’t know how to write a friend or love interest for Dean that is better than him and that fact lives rent free in your head.

Cas Fists the Leviathans

LMAO. Oh dear god, ok I went and looked into this because I was like wtf and what I have written in the doc is literally "The Trap. That’s it. That’s the prompt." WHICH IS ENTIRELY NOT HELPFUL PAST ME KJDSFHDS

BUT i think what this is for is a Cas perspective of 'The Trap' (spn 15x09) where he fights Leviathans and gets the Leviathan blossom for the Trap God Spell That Wasn't. And he apparently fists them. Is it sexual? Is it a metaphor? Who knows. Not me.

DUOLINGO OWL WIP MY BELOVED. Ok so the duolingo owl is hunting people for not doing their daily whatever on the duolingo app (and it's discovered that the duolingo owl is a tulpa from all the internet memes of the duolingo owl comes to kill you if you don't keep up your speaking in spanish streak). I don't know if the boys succeed on this hunt, but it's definitely a crack fic that knowing me becomes serious

MY MIDAM WIP. Ok so this is a post 15x19 fic where Chuck is alive (I think, I wasn't very clear in what I've written), so pretty much would follow the canon of 15x19 except Michael didn't betray the Winchesters and die and he and Adam are living and having their best life. (Also Gabriel's apparently alive in this fic so idk if this is supposed be post *my* 15x19/15x20 fix-it fic (TBPWYAD) canon or what because I still haven't decided if Chuck dies or not, but according this WIP he's still alive). BUT ANYWAY this is soft fluff fic where Michael and Adam go on a date in Italy I believe.

Bonus, I'll even share a little snippit because i love my little body-sharing archangel/human duo:

Adam quickly did a mental tally of every conversation they had had recently. There was world travelling, giving a silent ‘fuck you’ to both of their families (Gabriel was an exception, but he was on thin ice), making up with Amara for locking her up for centuries (that Thanksgiving dinner was going to be awkward), drop kicking Chuck into the sun (Michael was quite fond of that idea, especially after the Rapture, but Adam figured there were better ways to get back at the former God), finding a job… 

Oh, of course. A couple days before Adam had been explaining the point behind buying others chocolates and flowers and giving each other cards with pictures of naked baby angels on them (Michael had spent a good half an hour going over the inaccuracies of the cartoon cupids to the real deal).

“Wait, you’re telling me it’s Valentine’s Day?” Adam laughed aloud, earning him an odd look from the couple walking past. “And we’re… celebrating it?”

Michael shrugged. The archangel almost seemed embarrassed. “I believe you would call it a date.”

fic: the constant vow (chapter one)

You ever have that fic idea that you think, mm, that'd be fun to write, and you keep kind of prodding at it and tweaking it and reworking, and then it turns out it's like 9 years later and you finally sit down to write it and it turns out to be long and complicated and, oh damn, quite the endeavor indeed? Yeah.

I'm going to post the six chapters of this over the next six Fridays (barring getting hit by a truck or something) and, I'll be honest, I really hope people give it a shot in sequence even though it's technically a wip. Hopefully each chapter will be satisfying, even if you have to wait for the conclusion.

They've just finished up a pretty standard job and are killing time in snowy Wisconsin when Dean wakes up no longer looking like Dean. That's just the start of their problems.

can I ask what the appeal of wincest is to you? do you have a manifesto somewhere?

I do not have a manifesto. Do people write manifestos?? The only manifesto I can imagine being required is from people whose literal not-ironic favorite movie is Sharknado. And even then, the answer should be: "lol, why not?"

I can't decide if this is a bad faith ask or not but let's assume it's not, for fun and profit: the first level of the answer is lol, why not.

The second and largest part of the answer is: by watching the show as it's presented to me, without trying hard at all, I see a deep and tangible connection between the two main characters which is so intense that it actually would be less weird if they were fucking. The fact that they aren't, according to canon, actually makes Sam and Dean Winchester very fucking strange indeed. No one is that world-leveling over a sibling. It's insane behavior. They're bringing each other back from the dead and ruining each other's romantic relationships and accusing each other of cheating (thanks Sam) and condemning all of humanity to a world that still has demons in order to keep living in the same underground bunker together. Holy shitballs.

In some ways, wincest-where-the-relationship-is-physicalized is kinda cheap and redundant. Their actual-canon gencest relationship is so intense and over-the-top and strange that physicalized wincest almost becomes the only way we can talk about it, because we can't really conceive of relationships outside of romantic ones that are that powerful and all-consuming for characters.

So given all that, why not have them express their apocalyptic, world-ending (and world-saving!) love for each other via penis jousting. Like, might as well.

Sam’s fiftieth birthday isn’t much of an event. They don’t do much for their birthdays, never have, and even milestones have gotten lost in the general maelstrom that their lives became. When he was eighteen he ran away from home and felt so gut-shot horrible about it that he puked five times on the Greyhound taking him to what he’d thought was a new clean future. On his thirtieth he was in a coma in a hospital, getting nonconsensually filled with an angel. The years in between, May 2nd was a nonevent, other than a bloody reminder of bad times that weren’t far enough in the past.

In 2033, it’s different. Still reminders but they do feel distant. Some glass partition that’s slid down, between the bad old days and the current ones. They’re good, Sam guesses, but more than anything they’re---neutral. They’re exactly the days that he makes out of them, every morning. Lot of lives he could have had that would be worse than this one, and he knows that better than any other human in the universe, bar one.

It’s a Tuesday. A cool morning, for May. Sam goes for a run, like always. He comes back to the coffee not started, like always, so he starts it, and then goes and takes a shower. His knee hurts but not any more than his knee usually hurts, these days. Jeans, a sweater. The bunker seems colder than it used to, but then he’s a little skinnier than he used to be. A sweatshirt helps.

In the kitchen he pours two cups, and walks them careful back down through the halls to room fourteen. The door’s still just cracked and it’s dark inside, and he’s quiet as he sets the one mug on the bedside table but there’s a rustle, anyway. “Oh,” Dean says, and coughs phlegmy, and Sam wrinkles his nose but murmurs, “Sorry.” A waved hand, pale peeking out of the blankets, and then it gropes for the coffee. Sam shakes his head, goes to leave---thinking of the book he’s got split on the arm of his favorite chair in the library---but his knee’s hooked before the first coffee slurp is even over, and he waits. 

“Ugh,” Dean says, like always---Sam rolls his eyes, like always---but then there’s a little tug at Sam’s jeans and he sits, obediently, and waits for Dean to gulp down half the mug, and even in the half-light from the hall he can see the grimace. Dean sighs, putting the mug back on the table. “One day you’re going to learn the right amount of grounds to put in, dude.”

“One day you’re going to get up early enough to make your own, dude,” Sam says, and Dean blows a half-hearted raspberry. Even with the queen mattress they moved in here years ago, there’s not much room; Sam props himself up with one hand on the other side of Dean’s hip. Sips his coffee, looks at Dean waking up. Even with a drool smear he’s clumsily wiping off his jaw it’s a nice sight.

Dean curls an arm under his head, stretching his legs out lazily. “Fifty years of being my little brother, you oughta have realistic expectations,” Dean says, airy, but there’s a little smile curled in through his beard, and Sam pauses with his cup lifted halfway to his mouth. Surprised, sort of, and then not surprised. He finishes the sip and then sets his mug next to Dean’s, and when he leans down Dean’s already tilting his chin up for a kiss. Coffee and morning breath, and the soft scratch of beard. If he had any tension in him anywhere it’s gone, just from the taste of him, in the warmth of their bed in the morning. Dean’s fingers slip through his hair where it’s still wet at the back, slide down to hook into the v of his sweater. Sam pulls away from his mouth, kisses his cheek instead, and Dean huffs and pushes him back, just fingertip pressure but Sam sways easy with it, propped over Dean, thinking---nothing. Nothing at all.

“Want to go over to Marlow’s and get burgers for lunch?” Dean says, after a little while of looking all over Sam’s face. Sam wonders what he sees. He’s content to wonder. “And I got a good lead on a bottle of scotch that might just be hidden somewhere in the library.”

“Oh, a mystery,” Sam says, dry, and Dean smiles at him outright, easy, no smirking or holding back, and god, he’s just. He’s so. Sam smiles back, helpless to do otherwise. “Yeah,” he says, and then has to clear his throat of thickness. “Yeah, that sounds good.”

“Cool,” Dean says, casual, like he didn’t just catch Sam in the middle of loving him. 

Just another day in the life, together. Every morning that’s true---Sam wouldn’t  be caught dead calling it a gift, certainly anywhere that Dean could hear it, but. It’s something, all right.

“Maybe after some scotch you’ll let me do that thing you’re embarrassed you like,” Dean says, and Sam refocuses to find Dean looking a little less sweet than previously, and---goddamn him, it’s not fair that after fifty years he can still make Sam---

“Dude, cut it out,” Sam says, and Dean grins filthy and says, “Come on, remember? That time in Germantown where I got your leg bent back to your shoulder and---”

“I hate you,” Sam says, getting up, and Dean crows back, “Oh, I know how you do,” and just for that Sam takes both coffee mugs with him, and what’s so supremely irritating about Dean is that Sam’s flushed (not blushing, thanks) and annoyed and is now thinking about how his knee isn’t so bad today that they won’t be able to do---that---which he’s not embarrassed by, he just doesn’t like how he gets so out of his mind when Dean---when they---

Dean’s cackling back in the nest of blankets. Sam heads determinedly out of range and thinks about pouring the rest of the coffee down the sink, just for retribution, but it’d be a waste of good coffee. 

That night, in bed, after lunch and a movie and scotch and then other things and then clean-up, because even if Dean doesn’t mind it Sam’s never going to like sleeping like that---Dean curls up to his back, kisses behind his ear. “Happy day, man,” he says. “Many more.”

“Minimalist,” Sam says, and Dean snorts. Sam covers Dean’s hand, where it’s settled naturally over his breastbone, and thinks of all the days to come.

My #1 post of 2022

hello, hello -- happy w.w. to all who celebrate -- and as part of that delightful day, I wanted to get a sense of interest in a similar project that might have a slightly wider scope. You'll see the details in the linked google form.

Fandom's not *dead*, it's just... tired. And busy. And overstimulated-while-simultaneously-not-taking-anything-in. And sometimes people feel like they can't send a message or leave a comment or whatever because a) they just didn't have time when they saw it, or b) because they thought the post was too 'old' and it might feel weird, or c) who knows! Tons of reasons. But, in general, it's the interaction and communication that makes fandom feel alive, so -- we want to encourage that! Wouldn't that be fun? A little 'hey, I see you!' across the various dashboards.

It'd be super helpful if you'd take the little survey. (It's seriously little: two questions plus an optional short answer.) Share it widely! Tell your friends! Tell your enemies! And then, at some point, a later project (with an actual title) may come your way.

My current spn fic ideas

Succubus!sam - canon divergence where everything is the same except that Sam has Succubus powers that he cant really control. Humans and monsters will at random fall obsessively dangerously in love with him. (Not all of them but it happens often enough that its a problem) It does affect all demons he meets though. Weaker and lower demons will literally worship the ground he walks on and will be compelled to follow his every command while more powerful demons will be attracted to him but not subservient to him. This would most likely be a Cram fic btw

Fic based off this post- the apocalypse happens when Sam is in his teens. The fic I want to write is basically a rewrite of s4 but sam is 16 and Dean is 20 and they r 10x more emotional and irrational bcuz they r in the most insane situation that a 16 yr old and a 20 yr old could be in.

No monsters au/serial killer john au- i read this criminal minds/ spn crossover fic and became obsessed so I really wanted to write a criminal minds crossover of my own. Specifically i wanted to write a pre series fic where john and dean get caught but neither of them are talking so the cops bring in a 13 yr old sam and grill him but hes too traumatized to talk. However him being traumatized is interpreted as him being a stone cold psychopath and when the story gets out the media paints him as a serial killer in the making and 10 yrs down the line this reputation is still haunting him

Casifer gets trans woman Sam pregnant with Jack - Sam thinks that shes having sex with Cas but shes actually having sex with lucifer possessing cas. They of course do it raw and afterwards Sam begins noticing some strange things going on with her body but brushes it off as nothing until Lucifer reveals himself. However Lucifer also hadnt realized that hed gotten Sam pregnant until the soul fisting scene. At some point after the whole deal with Amara is resolved Lucifer kidnaps Sam and stashed him with Dagon (and yes i realize that i am ripping off Kelly Klines entire storyline for Sam) However sam of course wins Dagon over with her puppy dogs eyes and compelling personality and Dagon ends up deciding to help Sam and bcuz i refuse to kill off a woman of color she lives and becomes a part of team free will

(Additional Girl!sam fic- i also just want to write another girl sam fic that takes place in the early seasons. my idea of girl!sam is literally just kristen Stewart if she were 6'3. Shes super awkward. Also Jess is a dude and hes Josh Hutcherson bcuz short king)

Every sam girls favorite: Sam visions returns - After the episode which the name for im blanking on rn, bit its the one where they kill that one demon and get the spear of Michael. Anyway after sam kills that demon it ends up triggering his visions returning. Sam does not realize this but the visions are all about an unborn Jack bcuz yeah. Also probably some sam amd mary relationship weirdness bcuz you know. Also probably some Sam and Mary relationship tension bcuz she has once again altered his fate and inadvertently allowed the state of his "humanness" to be altered

But yeah these r the fic ideas that i have so far. Please let me know if any of them sound interesting and u think that i should write them!!

I thought I was the only one who was a little annoyed about folks being hostile towards Ethan in regards to Benji's trauma!!!

I'm an active Benthan fan and I can kinda see how as a fic writer it could be interesting to explore that idea-- that since we didn't see Ethan comfort Benji onscreen at the end of RN after he was kidnapped and almost killed by Lane, that maybe Ethan didn't comfort him and maybe Benji has feelings about that-- but to act like Benji's trauma in the M:I series is a result of Ethan being a bad friend or a bad person is a huge stretch.

It takes away Benji's agency as a character. He chose this really dangerous job that frequently goes off the rails, and honestly Benji's trauma in RN is more directly from Lane's actions than anyone else's. Sure, Ethan's not perfect, he makes mistakes and those close to him get hurt, but Benji specifically knows the risks. We know he knows this because he shouted this at Ethan (and all of us) in the movie. At that moment he actively opted in to the danger of being an intelligence agent. I think Benji in particular is the only character in the film franchise that moved into active field agent work from an office/desk job position-- he put himself in that situation.

(If anything Ethan would blame himself and Benji would tell him it's not his fault. Because that's kind of the argument they had after the opera house. "I can't protect you" meaning, "if something does happen it'll be my fault because I know I can't stop it" vs "that's not your decision to make" meaning, "It's my choice. I choose what I do and what happens to me, not you.")

Far be it from me to yuk someone's yum-- We all have our pet head canons-- but there is a lot of woobie Benji in the fandom, and I think fanfic readers and writers can forget that their interpretation is just one interpretation of many possible fan interpretations and is not in fact canon.

ahhhh so true anon!! sorry it took me a hot minute to get to this, and i DO have so much more to say on this but alas i am Very busy at the moment with school and i don't have the time to be writing up long rant posts LOL (but i wanted to say this now in case i waited too long and you never saw it asgasdfashgs)

but i fully agree about taking away benji's agency as a character... it's really the whole reason why i stopped reading benthan, i just got tired of the same trope over and over again where he's a blushing virgin and the damsel in distress ... i also don't want to yuck someone's yum but surely benji has more character than that...

and aside from that the post just felt so... entitled? idk? like they were saying that they thought ethan should've comforted benji on-screen instead of ilsa being there with him at the end of fallout, and look i get that these people love their ship but they sound just like spn stans when they call benthan queerbait. it is not queerbait. they aren't canon! (and just because the scene doesn't happen on-screen doesn't mean it didn't happen off-screen! that's what fanfiction is for: write it yourself! ethan isn't such a terrible friend that he wouldn't check on benji after two near-death experiences. if they think that he's neglecting benji then that's a massive character assassination on their part.)

Bloody Winchester

So, this is just a silly little idea that popped into my head while my friend was watching Good Omens. She commented on the scene where Crowley is berating his flowers and I confused GO Crowley with SPN one and we began thinking about the circumstances under which our beloved King of Hell would ever talk to flowers. This is the direct result of that quick brainstorm so I'm giving credit where it's due bc this little ficlet would not exist without my amazing friend! Also, it's been a while since I wrote anything and English is not my first language so please, forgive any mistakes. It's also not proofread so yeah, read at your own risk XD.

Warnings: pinning, alcohol consumption, Crowley may be a bit OOC, one-sided attraction, was supposed to be funny but the concept ran away from me, mentions of murder (no actual murder happening) playing fast and loose with canon bc I don't fully remember Dean's demon era, demon!Dean is his own warning even if he's just mentioned. angst I guess? bad writing, sad Crowley., swearing? It was well into the late hours of the evening when Crowley found himself unable to focus. Being the king of hell didn't create a lot of opportunities to relax and that task was made harder still ever since his best demon has been recently turned back into an insufferable human. Most of his lowly servants couldn't hold a candle to Dean in both effectiveness and sheer ruthlessness. It certainly helped that this particular member of the Winchesters was rather easy on the eyes and was able to hold a decent conversation and keep pace with Crowley while drinking. Hell has never run as smoothly as it did with Dean as his right hand. However, ever since the squirrel came back to its cozy little nest with moose and feathers, Crowley found himself having less time for himself, having to constantly oversee his lowly servants and oftentimes punish them for their ineptitude. While he would never admit this out loud - and certainly not to the man in question - the demon found himself greatly missing Dean's company and, sentimental though it was, longing for the times when his right hand would sit with him over a glass of whiskey and share easy jokes. Crowley was ripped out of his thoughts by the knock on the door. He heaved a sigh and entertained the idea of just killing whoever it was that dared to disrupt his peace but decided against it. It's not that hell didn't have enough demons to cover for one or two spontaneous murders but he simply didn't fancy dealing with the very possible coup if he were to go on a killing spree. However, he also didn't fancy hearing about yet another failure and so, with a wry smile he snapped his fingers just as the demon opened the door to Crowley's study.

Lilith's former right-hand man found himself in a dirty back alley of a pub he used to frequent with Dean and, although it was not his original plan, he decided that if he was going to be pathetically sentimental over some stupid human then he might as well go all in and get a drink in a place that holds a lot of fond memories. He walked into the establishment looking as though he owns the place and sat at the stool flagging the bartender down with a commanding wave of a hand. "Bottle of Craig, 30 years if you could" He said, not even paying attention to the person behind the bar instead choosing to focus on his surroundings. Crowley usually wasn't one to engage in the desires of the flesh with random strangers but he wasn't some shy maiden and if he were to find someone who'd catch his eye, he certainly wouldn't mind taking them to bed.

However, a quick sweep of the pub turned out to have a rather disappointing result and with a heavy sigh, Crowley gulped down the entire glass of whiskey in one go, trying hard not to focus on the fact that the person he'd like to see in his bed the most was also the one that would sooner push a blade through his chest than their tongue down his throat. He continued drinking in a similar fashion, and it was only when the bartender outright refused to serve him any more whiskey out of fear for his life (stupid human, if Dean was there he would've slit the idiot's throat in seconds for the audacity) that he pulled a couple of crumpled bills out of the pocket of his coat and slammed it on the table. Crowley stumbled out of the bar (having previously stolen another bottle of his favourite alcohol and concealed it within the sleeve of his coat) and onto the almost abandoned street. It was late, the sun has set hours ago and the moon was shining brightly through the tall buildings of Oakdale, encompassing the area in an otherworldly hue of blue.

Without any conscious thought, Crowley's legs carried him to the mostly abandoned park bench surrounded by, now mostly withered, tulips in shades of yellow and green. The latter reminded him of Dean's eyes and the demon cursed out loud, pouring his whiskey into a cardboard cup to conceal it. The last thing he needed tonight was dealing with cops for "disorderly behavior in public" or whatever bullshit name did humans come up with for having a drink outside. Bringing the cup to his lips, he allowed the alcohol to make its way down his throat, warming his insides and leaving behind a smokey taste of wooden barrels in which it was kept to mature.

"I thought we had something, you know? Me and him. It felt like he understood me like I could be myself without fear of being judged or ridiculed. We had that easy camaraderie and goddamnit but I miss him." Crowley started rambling, not particularly caring if anyone heard him. "I've never had anyone I was as close to as him, there's never been a single person, human, demon or otherwise that could make me smile, really smile in the way that he did. And! He made an amazing demon too, ruthless, cruel and clever, and, and-" he gave a hiccup and soldiered on. "and now he's just a human again. Pathetic and weak, with useless morals and a stupidly soft heart, and yet… there is no place for me in there. I just thought.." The demon trailed off for a second, his gaze focused on the flowers surrounding the bench. Almost all of them were showing signs of decay, and only the green ones still bravely holding on in the harsh Minnesotan winter. "It doesn't matter what I thought. I should've known that he'd think himself too good to affiliate with a demon" Crowley sneered to no one in particular and petulantly kicked the batch of tulips closest to him. "Bloody Winchester and his stupid, beautiful green eyes and ridiculously kissable lips." He raised the drink halfway to his mouth but was stopped dead by the sound of something landing on the bottom of the cup. He stared at it, mindlessly and it took his alcohol-addled brain a minute to work out that it was, in fact, a coin that was currently swimming in the amber-gold liquid. He raised his head with an indignant scowl on his face, ready to lash out at the presumptuous idiot who ruined a perfectly good cup of a 30-year-old whiskey but, whoever it was, has long before disappeared into the night. The former crossroads demon let out a few curses and, still muttering profanities at humans in general, dumped the remaining drink and the 50 cents onto the green tulips, spitting on it for good measure. He left the park in an even more foul mood than before and with a snap of his fingers, brought himself back to his house. Not bothering to do much more other than shrugging off his coat, Crowley laid down in his bed and fell into a fitful sleep, haunted by emerald green eyes and a deep, soothing voice of a certain hunter.

summary of my thoughts on The Winchesters 1.01 (but slightly to the left)

sooooooooo mad rn i wrote an entire summary of my thoughts on the spnwin premiere and then fell asleep and my laptop shutdown so now i have to do it again:

anyways (medium spnwin spoilers belooow)

- Overall I really liked the pilot. It messes with the core plot quite a bit but in a way that makes it clear that there’ll be some sort of plot twist. I’m excited to know where it goes to say the least. There was an issue with really fast pacing but I think thats usually a problem with pilots anyway so fingers crossed next week’s episode goes at a slower pace.

- I think the best part of the episode was the new characterisations of John and Mary. They feel like themselves but in fresh, new ways. John (who I hate in spn) especially, I found very compelling. because we see him start off right as all his problems do, just returned from war. The John we know is still just around the corner for him, though, and the show will probably follow him as he steps into the role (before Mary dies anyways). 

I really liked Mary’s character in season 12 and 13 of Supernatural, and The Winchesters Mary has a lot of potential. She reminds me so much of Sam in season 1, wanting so badly to get out of hunting, though we know she never truly will. Of course, she is also very deanlike in general attitude, but I think the parallels with Sam got me more excited. Since it’s clear spnwin diverges from canon (for now) I wonder what it means for Mary’s character.

Carlos and Latika are great, although I don’t have much to say about them. Latika’s moment with John gave me a tiiiny sliver of hope that Mary and John would each try to escape their fated romance with other people, until they get magneted back by the forces that be. Tbh I doubt that’ll happen though (cant get my hopes too high). I kind of wanted someone to be killed off immediately but thats because I hate quads im not gonna lie. 

Not loving the scooby doo van, or energy to be honest, but I can overlook it because I like the characters. 

- Now, about the romance.

 Please, god, the dialogue. Everything else was fine but some of the dialogue is. yikes. Mary especially is the worst offender for this with lines that feel so painfully CW (are you KIDDING ME.)

I also (no shocker here) don’t like Mary and John’s romance, i’m sorry. I really don’t feel the chemistry between them... hopefully thats on purpose? (its not). I don’t like how fast Mary warmed up to and was ready to explain the hunting life to John, it does not feel consistent with her character. I do not at all like their banter. Also I know Jensen was probably trying to sneak a little cameo in there with the nickname ‘soldier boy’ but I hate it. a lot. (that is just a personal thing though). I’m really banking on this show playing with the whole ‘destined to be together but aren’t gonna work’ thing that John and Mary have, because if it’s just Supernatural: love story edition i’m going to be very sad. 

- seeing dean at the end had me smiling because he’s BACK!!!! and he’s back in the CAR!!!! Where is he? No idea. Where is he going? No idea. Does his appearance and voice over actually add anything to the story? Probably not yet. Am I happy to see him? Absolutely.

Survival of the Fittest

Okay, time out.  I just stumbled across some “anti-hunting” posts and I want to address it.  Before I do, though, I want to make clear my loyalties.  I watch Supernatural and I like the show.  I vastly prefer both Dean and Cas to Sam, while there is very little disparity between my affection for Dean and my affection for Cas.  I recognize that all characters make mistakes, with varying degrees of justifiability.  I recognize that, in some limited ways, hunter-hate can be valid.

But.  I want to address one particular point.  I no longer remember who posted this because I’ve been stewing on it for a while, but I remember that they argued that, “a group of humans going around and killing non-humans for the simple crime of killing a human, even when they were just starving and needed to eat, are the bad guys.”  And just.

No.

And I say no, not because I’m blindly on the side of the hunters — since, as I said, I fully recognize that they’re not always in the right — but because predation exists???  In the natural world???

I mean, put it this way… My family keeps chickens.  Hawks and raccoons eat chickens.  They do not eat chickens because they’re cruel or sadistic; they eat chickens because they’re hungry and chickens taste good.  Shocker of all shockers, the chickens don’t want to be eaten.  If you don’t think the chickens are going to attack any hawk or raccoon that comes into the coop, you’re mistaken.  They will do their very best to attack the predator before it kills them.  Oftentimes, they will fail and they get eaten anyway.

Saying that hunters can’t attack supernatural creatures who are eating humans simply because “the monster is just trying to survive” is like saying that chickens cannot attack the creatures that go to eat them, or that any prey doesn’t have the right to defend itself against its predators.

Also, to rephrase the initial point, it’s basically an argument that hunters have no right to kill supernatural creatures because said Supernaturals are just trying to survive.  In other words, Supernaturals shouldn’t be killed because their mission is survival.  Which… like… sure, I guess I follow the point, but also; the point of hunters is to protect humanity’s survival (albeit on an individual level)?  So the argument is that the Supernaturals’ survival somehow deserves to be inviolable at the cost of human survival?  But that’s deemed illogical by the alleged “logic” of the initial argument; if killing a Supernatural is horrific because they’re just trying to survive, then killing a human is horrific because they’re just trying to survive.

With all due respect… just no.  At this point, the entire human-supernatural conflict should just be a matter of predation and what truly affects the outcome is survival of the fittest.

Inspired by this post, cause i never tell no to a Dylan Dog based fix it.

Dean after the finale had had enough of everything, go find God in the garden of Eden, decapitate him and throw his head to restart the universe, this time with real free will and also some adjustment cause he deserve it.

Why the knife function? imagine what you want. I imagined it as a owerpowered Cain knife, but whatever fit your narrative is ok.

A bit more of explanation and mumbling under the cut just cause if not was too long:

The first 9 pages are actually only redraw of the Dylan Dog number 400. You know, the one were Dylan after HIS HUSBAND is killed in front of him go in the liminal space between universes and decapitate the author so he can make a new big bang and have him again, and also being canonically bisexual and a bit more feral.

For who does not know, i am sorry. Really a big moment for bisexulity.

This story start by the theory the spn ending was in reality Chuck doing. He did not really lost his power, or better, maybe he did, but he also had already wrote a plan about how to have again some, and was so ready to write what he tought would have been an hilarious happy ending, that would never solve the tension between the character and just put under the rug all the plot point.

Is also why i did not tought too much about the knife. In a world like this, does it even matter?

Being Chuck the writer, it cannot exist in universe something kill him, cause for his nature he is not of the universe.

But alos, outside of the universe, Chuck is normal. He is not all powerful, and is all about the intention. Dean had enough intention in canon to go against the writer, why could he not go all the way? He could have gone only with his hands, and stil it would have functioned.

As wrote before, i like to imagine it like the Cain kinfe, for the added poetry of the creation killing the creator, the son killing the father. But it could also be a normal kitchen kinfe. Even a plastic toy. Is all really in the power of the character wanting to rebel against his God.

Dean is shirtless cause now that Chuck is killed he can finally fit better in his body and go out dressed as he want, that mean if he now want to be shirtless for estetic, he will be. He deserve it. The only motivation he does not have shorts is cause he could have to walk again the garden and he does not want to be bitten by some leftover snake.

Also the original scene in the comic is shirtless and i could hear the muse in my ear telling how terrible it would have been to dress him up.

About all the scenes from the new universe Dean just started, i just put the first characters come to my mind while storyboarding this. Of course they are not all, but with 15 seasons was difficult to put everyone without making a whole book out of it. Feel free to add your idea about what this new free will the universe have rebooted world could contain.

In case is not clear, the people appearing, in order, are: -Wayward sisters -Sam and Eileen -Adam and Micheal -Charlie and her girlfriend Stevie -Rowena -Angels now directed by Hannah  -The Roadhouse people that absolutely deserved better -Benny -Bela, that have absolutely domesticated the Hellhounds cause she deserve it -Kevin and his mother -Billie and Death -Meg -Bobby, Rufus and Crowley, in their every weekend meeting “what have the winchester done this time”.

Dean and Castiel, and probably Sam, as people actually remembering everything of the before, will go to teraphy as they should have years ago and actually stay, instead of doing it for only one half of the episode. It take time, but it gets better.

Could not fit Jack in it without adding even more pages, but he is now a baby as he should and he will grown up well and with A LOT of parental figure.

Hiii anon this ask absolutely made my day. Very excited to answer this.

Okay so, I don’t have a fic of this but I do have the secret better soulless Jack arc that exists in my head. This originated from me brainstorming it in DMs to @autisticandroids (so there is stuff in here that is from them) around the time I watched the canon version for the first time a couple of months ago. It diverges fairly significantly for 14x16-14x18 and then sticks more closely to canon for 14x19-14x20, but like, the things I've changed mean that those episodes are put in a different light by the time we get to them, and so the main point of this soulless Jack arc is “okay, what actually is the best way to deal with this?” and the answer is compassion!!

Obviously, Mary doesn’t die in this au, because it undercuts stuff to the extent that I don’t think it can have been the original plan. That doesn't mean, though, that I'm reverting to the improved soulless Jack arc I think s14 was building to before it got derailed by Mary's death, because that focusses a lot on Dean and Dean & Jack parallels, which isn't really the most interesting to me. This is a very Cas & Jack centric soulless Jack arc, as it should be.

So, the major structural diverging for me starts in 14x16 – in this version, instead of Cas being off screen, him trying to find a way to fix Jack’s soul is the focus of the episode. He gets to have two episodes getting increasingly desperate and probably physically threatening people (because I will forever be mad about the fact that in the entire show he punches 1 (one) car for Jack and that’s it). The idea of this – in addition the fact that Cas’s pov here is the most compelling objectively – is to help to maintain the sense of foreboding re soulless Jack, but also crucially to keep it in the right context of this being specifically something devastating for Jack and people who care about him. The idea of him as a potential ‘threat’ isn’t the point.

Then, I’m a little torn because I do think the s14 Nick stuff is the stupidest writing decision spn ever made, but I do also think Jack killing someone intentionally (as opposed to the stuff with Mary) is an escalation point that makes sense, because like, the issue with soullessness is that his moral reasoning’s off, but with a trustworthy guide he would still be fine! So I think while the emotional core of 14x17 is Cas still trying in vain to find a solution to Jack’s soul, this is the background to salmondean having taken Jack on some kind of motw case, explicitly as a test-drive for him, effectively. So the question the episode is asking – while it becomes increasingly clear that Cas’s mission going to be fruitless – is “is Jack’s soullessness going to be a problem?”, and then when he (well-meaningly!) brutally kills some malevolent civilian and flies off in a panic, we get the answer “apparently yes”.

Okay so NOW we get to my alternate 14x18 which is my favourite bit. In the canon soulless Jack arc, obviously we get Hallucifer 2.0, which I find pretty insulting tbh – I think it smacks of the writers being like “oops! We don’t know how to convey Jack interiority properly so we’re going to make him hallucinate someone to talk to instead!” (From the point of view that Nick’s death was probably meant to be the escalating event rather than Mary’s, this would make slightly more sense as a fossil of that, but it’s still annoying.) SO my solution to this is to convey Jack interiority by co-opting a bunch of other characters to voice his worst fears to him, in a way which escalates the situation, but like, in a way that makes it clear that the situation is being escalated because it’s being handled poorly. We’ve turned this into a Jack character study episode and all of the other characters are tools to serve this goal <3

Firstly, we ideally have a morally dubious ally. Annoyingly, I think Rowena's already too good by this point, and while an Uncle Crowley would be perfect, he has been killed off leaving his slot vacant. Anyway, we have [whoever. A not-dead Aunt Meg would also be great] make a spike btvs “I’m not good but I’m okay” style argument – “it’s fine that you don’t have a soul, you’re just like me and I’m fine”, which is kindly meant but still upsetting to (an already pretty distressed) Jack.

Then we get apocalypse world Bobby, with some other hunters in tow (including non-fridged Mary trying to talk him down), and (in line with the vibe from him at the beginning of 14x19, which was just never followed through on) he’s like “you are just a monster now, and we’re therefore going to kill you”. Which is clearly completely the wrong approach and just escalates things further as it reinforces Jack’s fears about himself and makes him more upset. Jack sends out some sort of shockwave in his panic to get away, and injures a couple of the apocalypse world hunters as well, but not intentionally. By this point he’s so upset that he’s leaving a bit of a trail of destruction in general, and that obviously increases people’s belief that he’s dangerous but like – he’s just distressed! They just need to be kind to him and tell him it’s okay and that they’ll help him!

And then we get to salmondean driving to intercept Jack. Cas is racing back from where he was of trying to fix Jack's soul, but they’re still a lot closer than Cas is, so Cas is begging Dean on the phone like “please please wait till I get there to talk to him. Please.” But Dean’s like “no, we need to sort this out right now” and so he and Sam barrel into the situation without Cas. They try to holy fire ring Jack to contain him while they try to talk him down, which obviously just makes Jack even more upset. (Sam is uncomfortable with this and tries to talk Dean out of it / tries to use waiting for Cas as an excuse, but he does ultimately fall in line.) And then when they’ve got Jack in the holy fire, Dean is taking what he genuinely thinks is a tough love approach of “well you’re not a monster, if you can get this under control” (voicing Jack’s fears to him. We’ve co-opted the avatar of the narrative to serve the end of expressing Jack interiority <3), and Jack’s like “otherwise you’ll kill me?” and Dean’s like “yeah. If I have to”. It eventually escalates to the point that Jack feels so overwhelmed that he is about to give up and just walk through the holy fire, not knowing whether it’s going to hurt him, but just before he does Sam caves and breaks the circle, so we don’t actually know what would have happened, just that he was prepared to do it. Salmondean don’t quite realise what was about to happen, but the audience do.

So we finish 14x18 with Jack still at large, and still upset and therefore out of control, and the crucial takeaway is that all of these attempts to talk him down failed because everyone was making the same misapprehensions about how to help Jack, making Jack’s non-monster status conditional, just feeding into his fear that he can’t avoid being a monster, and the destructive distress it’s resulting its, whereas Cas’s approach would have been “no you’re not a monster, and I’m going to help you” which is why it’s the only one that would have worked.

Then, when we get to 14x19, escalating to trapping Jack in the box makes more sense, because they have already tried talking to him. At the same time, the audience knows that trapping him in the box is still the wrong approach, because Cas's compassion that he didn't get to exercise is still in clear contrast to all of the other failed approaches. The Dumah stuff in this episode probably gets replaced by something where Jack has a little more agency, because the point is “yeah he might do dubious stuff in a well-meaning way without a guide, but if he is looked after he’s fine", so it makes sense to show him doing some well-meaning 'bad things' – having stuff that he's purely manipulated into is a little dull.

In addition to the fact that salmondean wanting to trap Jack in the box makes more sense in this version, because Sam let Jack out of the holy fire ring, Dean can leverage Sam’s ~responsibility in whatever chaos Jack has causes since, to persuade him to go along with the box plan, so the character dynamics make a little more sense there. Also obviously, removing the revenge motive that comes from Jack having killed Mary makes Dean come off as less callously vindictive, and more (very poorly, but still) trying to deal with this very difficult situation. Like, he's still not behaving particularly sympathetically, and he has fallen back pretty quickly into his earlier ways of viewing Jack, but it's much more earned, and less "woah! Where did that come from?!" than in canon 14x19. Another thing that's fixed by Jack not having killed Mary is that he looks much less gullible for being tricked into the box, as opposed to the canon portrayal of which is sublty ooc in a really insulting way.

And then, like in canon, Cas is away while all this is happening, and stuff plays out pretty much the same when he returns, except that Dean tries to physically restrain him from going to get Jack from the box, and Cas shoves him out of the way, because I do have an agenda re the angel and (here, very mild, but still) violence in defence of his child <3

For Moriah, the actual Jack stuff can play out pretty much the same (but of course with the prevailing sense that "no, Dean is wrong to think he has to kill Jack! Cas will be able to sort it!"), only obviously Chuck doesn’t kill Jack. This is for several reasons: 1) Chuck killing Jack is a massive cop-out in that it avoids dealing with the repercussions of Dean nearly killing Jack, which is lazy, boring writing; 2) if the point of this rewritten soulless Jack arc is “what is the solution? Is there an alternative to trapping/killing him?” we need him to survive so that we can see that the solution would have worked, have the cruel approaches refuted; 3) for there to have been something gained from all this, the arc needs to conclude with Cas leaving with Jack. Cas has had major revelations re the situation his child would be in continuing to live at the bunker, and also been shown the extent to which his drive to take care of Jack differs from Sam and Dean's, both of which are reasons for him to realise that he does need to step up as Jack’s parent, in order to do right by Jack, the way he wants to. Like, Cas has learned stuff from this, and he should get to act on it, rather than just having his child killed in front of him. Also, I get a real kick out of getting to say to the audience “look, only one of these three can reasonably be considered Jack’s parent after all that! It's only Cas!”

Not sure what really happens after that. Certainly I am super enamoured with the whole “Cas caring for soulless Jack” vibe – it compels me greatly. I also have in the back of my mind a character-stuff-masked-as-lore solution which could happen either instead of or following that, where Cas sacrifices his grace to fix Jack’s soul, and then Jack is able to restore Cas’s grace via giving him a little of his own (given it’s turbocharged nephilim juice), and it doesn’t give Cas angel terminal illness this time specifically because it’s the grace of his son. Like, their chosen relationship being recognised metaphysically in a way that resolves the situation.

Anyway crucially, the soulless Jack arc has been rewritten so that the instead of the clumsy canon version, the focus is “what does it truly mean for him to be soulless? How do we resolve this situation?” and the answer is that while his moral reasoning is a little out of whack, he does still mean well, and we can resolve things by being kind and having his dad take care of him <3

The Last Time I’ll Write a Long Post About Supernatural (15x18-15x20)

15 YEARS OF WATCHING THIS SHOW. 11 YEARS OF RUNNING A BLOG ABOUT IT. IT’S BEEN QUITE A RIDE.

[15x20 Speculation + evidence at the bottom]

First off, I just wanna come clean and say, after all these years, I still think they should’ve ended at Season 5.

If you’re going to come at me with “Then why’d you stick around to watch it if you didn’t like it?”, your question is immature, and the answer is simple: I just want to know what happens next (I also love the main characters and their actors too). You can watch a show and still think it’s shit.

Call me a clown, but despite all the disappointment and trust issues that this show has given me, I would still look forward to the day where it might just turn itself around and bring back the quality it once had, or realize the potential of each story it was trying to tell, or at the very least, do justice by my favorite ship.

Never happened.

They’ve had a few good episodes here and there. I can’t imagine the SPN Universe without The Man Who Would Be King, The French Mistake, and Scoobynatural. Seasons 6-10 were enjoyable at times. I blocked out most of 7 & 11-15. 

If you’ve been following this blog since its heydays in 2010-2014, you’d know I’d try my best to defend Destiel and this show’s decisions regarding it no matter what.

Because you know what, as a CONCEPT, this show is good. If you take a look at all the worlds its storylines have birthed in fanfiction/fanworks, you’d see how much Supernatural has wasted its own story arcs. The writing got shittier as each season progressed, and they’ve obviously given up in production as well because the quality in the execution has noticeably gone down too, but if you take a step back and take a look at the bigger picture, you’ll see that this show still tries to make sense of itself.

[If you’re still following this post, please bear with me, I know this is long, but I just want you to understand how jaded and pessimistic I am with regards to this show, so maybe you can buy into whatever hopeful thing I’m about to say later on.]

SO LET’S TALK ABOUT DESTIEL

Never in my wildest dreams did I think that they would give us Castiel’s “I love you” speech. To the point where, if I weren’t so desperate for it, I would argue that it was completely out of character for him to word vomit the way he did (but I’m not gonna diss on that right now because I’ll take what I can get).

I’ve valued every meaningful and obscure exchange that Dean and Cas have had in the earlier seasons, and I was willing to accept their relationship as just that--undefined, without any clear boundaries as to what they really are. And I think that was beautiful on its own.

But now, they’ve chosen to define it.

After they’ve driven every possible wedge between Dean and Castiel in seasons 11-15, to try to explain away their feelings as something they offer to a collective.

Dean can’t mourn and pray for JUST Cas, he has to mourn and pray for EVERYBODY--even Crowley, even some chick he just met, because god forbid he cries about just the guy who has given up everything for him--that would be “too homo”.

They’ve even set Cas on a path to abrupt fatherhood just so he can care about something other than Dean. Make it seem as if Dean wasn’t his purpose through and through.

And after all these years of this stupid show trying to deny it, they choose to acknowledge it at the worst possible circumstance, at a time where they’ve been so far apart, that it seems so foreign for them to suddenly come together.

But here we are. And they’ve chosen to tell us.

Chosen to tell us that everything that Castiel has done leading up to his death, he has done it because he was IN LOVE WITH DEAN WINCHESTER.

Chosen to tell us that the ONE THING THAT WOULD MAKE CAS HAPPY IS DEAN WINCHESTER.

Chosen to tell us that BEING WITH DEAN WINCHESTER is something that CAS WANTS BUT KNOWS HE CAN’T HAVE.

And they’ve also chosen to tell us nothing about how Dean feels.

Sure, finding out your angel made a deal, the stipulations of said deal, his newfound happiness philosophy, his long-winded monologue of why he loves you and why you’re worthy of his love, and to top it all off he tells you that being in love with you is enough to make him happy while he subtly hints that he’s always wanted to be WITH you romantically, was a lot to process in the 5 minutes after you’ve just had an existential crisis.

It’s whatever, right? Let’s culminate 11 years worth of tension and feelings in 5 minutes. Let’s waste the entire episode with cringey expository dialogue, and irrelevant sequences. The whole season was a waste anyway.

You know what Supernatural? FUCK YOU FOR THAT. They deserved better. WE deserve better.

And I would love nothing more than to hurl every possible insult your way,

But for the last time, I’m going to HOPE that you’re finally going to try to make it better for the fans that stuck by you all these years.

No more baiting new viewers, no more placating casual viewers, no more excuses. 15 years. Bring it home for the people who have actually been around.

SO HERE’S HOW I THINK 15x20 IS GONNA GO

There’s two ways this series is gonna end. Horribly or Spectacularly.

First let’s all take into consideration what Andrew Dabb says about it:

So, let’s start with

ENDING HORRIBLY

In this scenario, Misha is telling the truth about his last day of filming being 15x18. His “camping trip” during the last few days of filming 15x20, was actually a camping trip. He doesn’t go to Vancouver to shoot.

Jensen wasn’t “being careful” during the zoom interviews that it was just him and Jared quarantining for the shoot, it really was just him and Jared (althought most of these were done pre 15x19) Supernatural isn’t smart enough to do misleading PR, and they’re once again oblivious to the potential of their own story.

Misha hasn’t posted a “Goodbye Castiel” tweet because he’s probably saving it for last episode or he forgot because it was overshadowed by the Destiel trend that night.

So what we get is:

Sam and Dean are on the road again, up against the monster of the week. Only their world no longer has actual Supernatural beings anymore, so the monsters they’re fighting are humans.

Humans end up killing the Winchesters (despite having gone up against literally every powerful being imaginable INCLUDING God himself). Dean and Sam end up in heaven and relive their greatest hits.

Meanwhile, Castiel rots in The Empty because he died after realizing that he was happy and gay. Jack doesn’t bother rescuing him—his surrogate dad, the guy who made this specific deal to spare him—even though it was so easy for him get Cas in and out of The Empty when he had a fraction of the power that he has now.

Dean never speaks of Castiel’s confession because despite all the hints of a profound bond in the earlier seasons, and the fact that Dean has never cared for anyone (who isn’t his actual brother) as immensely as he does Cas, Supernatural just can’t have its main macho character be “suddenly bisexual” because that would hurt the male ego or some shit.

His heaven would probably be living happily ever after with his family. “Family” meaning Mary and John Winchester--two of the shittiest parents ever (but they’re not going to include them in this episode like they were supposed to because of Covid) and Sam.

Sam also gets a dog. As usual.

I wouldn’t put it past Supernatural to do this. After everything they’ve pulled, this would be right up their alley. I actually expect this ending.

Anyway, onto the next possible ending

ENDING SPECTACULARLY

In this scenario, Supernatural tries to stick the landing, and Jensen’s whole “It didn’t sit well with me at first, but then I took a step back after talking to Kripke, and realized that I had to view it from an audience perspective, I am now really excited about it” (DC Con 2019) anecdote about his thoughts on the final episodes, were actually about Dean potentially ending up with Cas. (Which would totally make sense because Jensen at first didn’t see Dean as anything but hetero, but as of late, he has been throwing in Destiel jokes of his own, so he seems to have warmed up to the idea)

Backed with Misha’s tidbit (DLConline 2020) that he and Jensen had conversations about Destiel, and that they wouldn’t have gone through with it if Jensen wasn’t onboard with it, but Jensen didn’t push back at all. (Why would they need to check with Jensen if it was just Cas going all in?)

Robert Berens (writer of 15x18) also wrote the script at the beginning of Season 15, but made Misha privy to the concept a year prior (Season 14), so they went into this season knowing about Destiel going canon.

This one’s a reach, but this scenario also supposes that Misha was lying about his whereabouts during the filming of the final episode, and him saying that 15x18 was his last episode is part of the diversion to avoid taking away from the weight of Castiel’s death.

And that Supernatural is actually self-aware of its own material (similar to how they have wrapped things up in the past—lots of expository dialogue, poor execution, but fulfills the story arc)

Since Season 15 is basically a Meta Season (Chuck/God as a writer, pretentiously calling out how he created the worlds, its characters, and basically invalidating the past 14 seasons), and 15x19 is supposedly the finale for Season 15, written by two of the worst Supernatural writers, Brad Buckner and Eugenie Ross-Leming (Bob Singer’s wife), then we can assume that 15x19 is where the shitty writers kill themselves--as Chuck, of course.

So we get a badly written episode that produces a bad ending, or as Becky put it, “All action, and no Cas”

So we get the bad writers season ending at 15x19.

And 15x20 is where Sam and Dean write their own stories, and where the cast had a hand in pitching ideas for it.

Dabb has mentioned that 15x20 (Act Two) is a SERIES finale, where they try to resolve the characters’ journeys.

Because as everyone has acknowledged, Supernatural isn’t about the story, it’s about the characters.

So here’s what we can get out of it:

With no more Supernatural beings left to fight, Sam and Dean are in a stalemate. They’ve resigned themselves to fighting to the bitter end, but the “end” has passed, and they’re still standing.

So they try to figure out who they are now, and what they want out of the life they still have.

Sam still wants a normal apple pie life. Before Dean dragged him out of college to go hunting with him, he had a whole life planned out for him. Become a lawyer, settle down with a nice girl, and get a dog. He gave all that up because they had work to do, but now the work is finished, he can finally go back to wanting that for himself again.

Dean finally realizes his self-worth after Cas saves him again. His prayer to Cas in purgatory may have helped him come to terms with his anger, but the whole “you’ve done everything you did for love” speech finally put him in his place, and he learns not to hate himself anymore.

But of course, he cannot fully reconcile with himself if he doesn’t get Cas back, and tell him how he feels.

Because Dean actually wants something for himself this time. Something he knows he can finally have if he can just salvage it.

So maybe this time around, with the help of Jack (off-screen), Dean saves Cas. Grips him tight and raises him from perdition.

They bypass The Empty deal by turning Cas human, and he lives the rest of his days with Dean.

Dean and Cas know they deserve to be saved, and they know that they deserve to be happy.

(Wishful thinking, maybe they kiss a little)

Anyway...

I’m just saying, there’s NO WAY that they’d have Cas go through that whole rushed speech, if they weren’t going to do anything about it later on.

But again, after 10 years of disappointment, I wouldn’t put it past Supernatural to pat themselves on the back and say, “Okay, we sort of gave them what they wanted. We’re good now”

If that’s the case, Supernatural, I’m sorry I wasted my time on you.

Me and @autisticandroids were having a back-and-forth the other day about Cas, Jack, and Kelly. And the most intense tonal shift happened in the middle of it. I wanted to share it, so I took our concepts and ran with it:

Cas suggests that he possess Kelly during her labor to help her survive.

They succeed, and both Jack & Kelly are safe and healthy. (Jack still grows up fast like in canon btw)

HOWEVER, Cas can't go back to his body because there's no soul in there to consent. (I know that Cas' body is technically his and not Jimmy's anymore but indulge the idea for a second.)

Kelly and TFW now pass Cas around while they raise Jack. They have schedules for "possession duties" and everything while they look for a way to bring Cas back to his body.

We can go insane about the Cas-possessing-Dean scenario for another time but the important thing here is Kelly.

I don't know who initiates it, but Dean and Cas DO have sex while the latter is in Kelly's body. (Kelly is okay with it because frankly she simply CANNOT stand the longing and shit. Actually I think it would be funny if KELLY initiates it.)

Before they know it, they have another nephil to deal with. (Except this time it's not an apocalyptic threat because it's sired by a powered-down seraph instead of an archangel. No one in heaven even notices its conception.)

Kelly!Cas gives birth, AGAIN. Jack now has a little brother ❤️ (we haven't decided on a name yet. He grows slower than Jack but he tries his best to catch up to his big bro)

They find a way to bring Cas back to his body.

Most of the canon plot unfolds the same except there's an extra child there and also Mary is there because we said so. Dean also exhibits less toxic behavior towards Jack because Kelly, Mary, and Cas are there to call him out on his shit.

The SPICY things start to happen when Jack ends up accidentally killing both Kelly and Mary. He still loses his soul btw

To those familiar with my spn mpreg rewrite, y'all know that I love giving Jack siblings in order to like. Mess him up more.

Dean definitely treats Jack's baby brother waaaaayyyy better than him. This of course gives Jack soooo many problems disorders.

Think of Jack and his lil bro as the reversal of Dean and Sam's dynamic. (You might see where we're going with this.)

Okay. Imagine how diabolical "Jack in the Box" is when they lock up Jack in front of a young and gullible child. It adds to Dean and Sam's credibility (like. Jack goes: they wouldn't betray me in front of my little brother right?)

Okay. Imagine the kid overhearing the adults arguing about the gun. Imagine Dean looking at the kid and having something click in his head.

A nephil cannot survive without its grace, but it CAN survive without a soul. If the Equalizer carves out a piece of the shooter's soul, then if the shooter is a nephil...

Imagine Dean talking to the kid privately and handing him the gun. "You have to kill Jack. That's not your big brother anymore." Imagine a father who doesn't have the guts to shoot his own son, so he leaves the task to his other son.

Imagine Chuck enjoying all of this unfold. Hey, if he can't get his Cain and Abel story from Dean and Sam, he might as well get it from the young ones.

Imagine a little boy looking up at his big brother, his eyes wet and his hands trembling as he's pointing the gun at Jack.

Imagine Jack kneeling so that he's eye level with his little brother. Imagine him saying: "I understand."

Imagine if Cas named the kid Dean Jr. so that in the end, it's still "Dean" who ends up shooting Jack. Who ever said that "Abraham and Isaac" and "Cain and Abel" had to be separate stories?
