Daytime TV Dreaming (A Fyuuture Kid AU Drabble ft. Heartsabyul, Savanaclaw, and Octavinelle)

While camping in the mountains during Camp Vargas, you encounter a monster exactly like the one you fought off with Ace and Deuce at the beginning of the year. While trying to fight it off again, a strange portal opens up in the mine and a person jumps out of it to your rescue. He says he doesn't remember much, but it's clear when you bring him to Crowley that this boy is also from your world, despite being a mage, and until the headmage can think of a better solution, he assigns "Yutu" to your dorm.

notes: When I was re-working my masterlist I deleted a fic that I meant to be the start of a series where Yuu’s child travels back in time to try and prevent the destruction of Twisted Wonderland and their parent's untimely death. For some reason I wrote that child as having been born after Yuu was forced to leave Twisted Wonderland with modified memories, so he doesn't actually know that much about his dad until he gets iseakaid just like Yuu did to attend Night Raven in a much more dystopian setting. Anyway if I ever go back to that concept I'll probably re work it, but I thought it would be fun to share my notes about the guys reaction to this newcomer who gets sorted into Ramshackle Dorm. They/them used for Yuu as always but they are implied to be afab, "Yutu" is not meant to be the child's real name, and he is meant to be wearing a disguise to make his identity less obvious. Heartsabyul

Ace- is legitimately worried about the intentions of this weird newcomer but it comes off as him being a jealous brat so no one takes him seriously. Look, something just doesn't feel right about this! Your world doesn't have any mages but now one shows up? And he's weirdly familiar with you? Cmon someone other than him start asking some questions please! Tries to have "a talk" with Yutu, who is trying really hard to understand what his parent saw in his dad and... just not getting it at all. RiP Ace you have been assigned cringe before the kid has even been born.

Deuce- only concerned with making a good impression because if this person is from Yuu's world then they might value his opinion on.... things. Also an honor student would try to win over his crush on his own merit and not by intimidating potential competition. Actually ends up befriending Yutu and really liking his vibes, which gives the boy a lot of guilt because he knows his dad would probably feel very guilty if he knew what his son's life has been like.

Trey- he is slightly worried about how Yuu will handle having to take care of an actual person and not just a monster, but he also feels like it is none of his business so he doesn't pay too much attention. But then Yuu mentions that Yutu is a pretty talented baker and that's why they haven't been bugging him for sweets as much. Well isn't that just ADORABLE??? Trey isn't upset about this at all nope, not one bit. He's extremely upset and Yutu is stirring the pot because he thinks making his dad angry is funny.

Cater- oh look, another person who won't be a part of his life eventually. He doesn't get any weird vibes from Yutu so he doesn't worry about what his appearance might mean too much, but there is something about the way the newbie insists on trying to be his friend that reminds him a lot of Yuu and isn't helping with this whole "denial of the crush" thing he is trying to do. If he didn't know any better he would think Yutu was doing it on purpose.

Riddle- immediately starts butting into Yuu's life more to give them advice about being a proper housewarden. Not that he didn't already see them as one, it's just disciplining a human student and disciplining Grim are a bit different and no he is not using this as an excuse to spy on the Prefect how dare this brat suggest his intentions are impure?!?! (Ah but you see Riddle you can't just take Yutu's head off in front of their Prefect because you want them to liiiike you and he is so going to use that against you.)

Savanaclaw

Leona- understands that something is not quite right as Yutu's explanation of who he is doesn't quite pass the sniff test. Literally, the brat smells like Yuu with his magic and since Leona was one of the people who got a good look at the portal Yutu came through he pieces things together pretty quickly. Not that he immediately goes and pulls a Vader on the kid, he just makes it clear he knows there is some time travel involved and demands to know what his goals are. He can leave the family shit for after he's secured the kid's existence.

Ruggie and Jack- while they have different opinions on the new kid, Leona's sense of smell still tells him Yutu's identity and as their dormleader he feels the need to take them aside and mention what he knows... sort of. He tells them that he's pretty sure time travel is involved and that Yutu is related to Yuu, but he neglects to mention the whole bit about who he thinks the father is... which drives them insane in completely different ways.

Ruggie thinks that since you clearly have a thing for beastmen anyway he would be stupid not to shoot his shot. He doesn't give two shits about whether or not Yutu is his kid, time isn't real so he can just rewrite it a bit.

Jack is determined to treat Yutu fairly and protect him since you are his friend and that's what friends do for each other's kids. Has a full blown panic over whether or not this might give the kid an identity crisis and takes him aside to reassure him he doesn't want to replace his real father, and that he will be happy as long as Yuu is happy. que the world's most awkward conversation

Azul- Oh? Ramshackle has a new dorm member? And he's a mysterious mage... allegedly from the same world as Yuu... something doesn't make sense here but while he is figuring that out. Capitalism ho! Jade- a new mage? How delightfully unpredictable. He's probably the only one genuinely happy Yutu is around because of how funny the story of his arrival is. The only upsetting thing about this is that he wasn't able to go camping with Yuu himself. Like Azul he senses something is wrong with Yutu's story, but he doesn't intend to press him until he has the new kid's trust. He's just here to help after all, there's nothing to be afraid of so long as there is no need for him to be jealous.

Appologies for any writing mistakes. Note that the plot summary is only focused on the his main storyline, and it leaves out/glosses over some interesting sideplots.

Plot of kantje's story

After arriving to the server, kantje’s (he/him, name always lowercase) main goal was getting his kidnapped daughter named Onion (she/her) back. At the same time, he made sure to help out everyone around him, be kind, and make the server a better place. He was always willing to talk to his friends about their joys and problems, and he was proactive in solving server-wide conflicts through diplomatic, non-violent means (eg. he held a petition for a dictator to step down, he ran for mayor, etc.). 

He was beloved for his outgoingness, friendliness and helpfulness, though he was also known for his great business skills (at times going into slightly scammy territory), and his tendency to self promote. He was composed and good with words, which is not to say he wasn’t an emotional person: over the course of the story there were many times where he yelled and/or cried.

His first step in his goal was trying to figure out *who* kidnapped Onion. All he knew was that it was someone who wears purple, since he heard Onion yell out a rough description of the person. He decided he needs to create a big distraction, so he built a casino with his friend Effy (any pronouns). While the whole server gathered for the casino’s grand opening, he had Effy search the house of every person who wears purple. Effy founds nothing.

This left him with only one purple-wearing culprit: God of the server, ZolisterTV (note: this is a different character than Zolister [without TV], who’s a human. Both use any pronouns). kantje summoned ZolisterTV, who told him that the reason He took his daughter was to entertain The Audience. He considers kantje His favourite "play-thing", a main character for the server's story. kantje didn’t understand what He meant by that, but over time he figured it out.

One day, Effy managed to get an interdimensional portal to work. kantje traveled through it, and after going on a grueling adventure, he acquired two magical items: 1) unremovable armour, which when worn causes you to pursue your primary goal no matter the cost, throwing away your morality, 2) a disc that can grant you any wish from the god that you are a patron of, provided that certain conditions are met. kantje’s patron god is ZolisterTV.

During his trip he also met The Pariah (it/its), guardian of the dimensions, who told him exactly what ZolisterTV wants kantje to do in order for Him to give Onion back: he needs to put on a great show for The Audience by creating a Catastrophy, then a Tragedy, then a Betrayal, and lastly he needs to activate the disc by taking one life of someone who’s a patron of ZolisterTV (note: most characters have five lives). kantje is reluctant to go through with this, since it would involve hurting people.

However, Mugm's (he/him) and Silvasaur’s (he/they, I think) dad Cupid (he/star/spark) got killed, and the two brothers took the disc from kantje hoping to revive Cupid. kantje’s friend Effy was involved, and kantje was crushed by this, desparate enough to put on the magic armour. Gone is the kindness he used to be known for, his morals out of the window. The fact that he's ZolisterTV's favourite gets to his head, and he embraces his role as the "main character".

What follows was him orchestrating the Catastophy, Tragedy and Betrayal. I can go in detail about what happens if you’d like, the events were very interesting and iconic, but essentially it involved killing, manipulating, holding people hostage, erasing people’s memories, and emotional torment. 

Through careful planing, the good reputation he built up remained untouched until almost the very end, when he nearly completed the mission. However, Rin (she/they) and Effy, his friends who were horrified by what became of him, revealed all of his actions to the server. Te people decided to inprison him. While he was in prison, Winsweep (he/him) took revenge on him by erasing *all* of his memories. As he slowly regained his memories back, his friends figured out how to remove the magic armour.

Finally it was time to use the disc. There were two choices: bring back Onion, or bring back Cupid. kantje, who had his kindness back after the armour was removed, chose to bring back Cupid. He thought Mugm and Silvasaur deserved to have their dad back after all that kantje put them through, and that he’ll find another way to get Onion back. Cupid reunited with star’s sons, but since star is the self-sacrifical type, star stated that star wishes for Onion to be back instead.

kantje finally had Onion back, and the reunion was joyous. However, kantje was crushed by the guilt of what he did to everyone, and decided that he needs time to reflect, and that the people deserve a chance to heal without him present. Knowing that Onion is safe and in the good hands of his friends, decided to leave for a little while. He gave as many people as possible proper goodbyes and apologies, and then traveled to another dimension. 

This is where we have currently left off in kantje’s story, though we can see Onion through Vi’s (he/neos) pov, as he works hard along with kantje’s other friends to keep her safe from the various malicious actors on the server, like Winsweep.

Short but impactful moments

Some facts about Onion

As of right now, she is six-years-old. At the start she was five.

She’s quite shaken by the fact that she was kidnapped, but she’s still a playfull kid.

She gave kantje his scarf, and her favourite disc is Otherside, so these two things are very important to kantje.

She communicates by making the allay noise, which transmits words into the minds of the people she’s talking to. She speaks Dutch (kantje is from the Netherlands), and she’s learning English.

She doesn’t quite understand gender properly. (She also might be genderfluid, but don’t quote me on that, I might be misremembering.)

She’s adopted, and she isn’t the first child kantje adopted. His first child, Niko, is now an adult, and he turned out to be a horrible person (/rp). He is only briefly relevant to Showtime SMP.

“So, here’s a question for you. Where does the name ‘Chelsea’ come from? When Mase told me I was shocked.”

“So, my dad is a massive fan of the club. Always attending the games whether that’s Premier League, FA cup, Carabao cup, Champions league games, name it. He has pictures of John Terry, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba on his office walls and replicas of signed shirts.”

“And then you were born, giving your father the perfect opportunity to name you Chelsea.”

“Exactly.”

“The name really suits you. Royal blue vibes. Which leads me to my next question, which club do you support?”

The drive to Manchester was one of the most enjoyable I’ve ever had, with Ben on the line, talking about our lives and getting to know each other. I feel like it would’ve been better if we were face to face but things have their time.

He was so keen on getting to know me better and I was too. I’ve been a fan of his for so many years, something I haven’t admitted yet, and learning more things about his life brings a smile to my face.

“A professional never reveals their favorite team. I have to remain unbiased, impartial and fair to every team.”

“But now you’re not being fair! Come on, it’s just the two of us. I swear I won’t tell a soul.”

“Look, here’s a deal. If you score a goal at the next match that I will happen to commentate on, I will tell you my favorite club. Deal?”

“Fine, you win. A goal for the club it is. You have a deal.” I can hear him groaning annoyed at the offer I made.

Sometimes life is not jolly for footballers either.

“It was lovely talking to you Benjamin. I have to go now unfortunately, just arrived home and I need to prepare my notes for Manchester’s next game.”

“Oh yes, I fully understand. I enjoyed our conversation and getting to know you better. Talk to you later, blue.” I smile at the nickname ‘blue’. It’s not the usual ‘chels’ but I very much like it.

Mason stops talking abruptly, I hear him opening his front door and quietly walking outside. He takes his keys with him and I am assuming he is afraid that something is going on.

"Everything okay mate?" I ask from the other line of the phone but Mason hushes at me really quickly.

"I can hear yelling from Chelsea's apartment. I can see two cars parked in front of her house, but I can't tell who is the person standing in front of her door."

"Is she alright? Is it her father?" worry rushes through me and my heartbeat is rising extremely fast.

"It looks like Jenson. Wait, I will call you back, I'm going here to help her get rid of him."

"I need to be alone right now Jense, what can't you understand?" It's incredible how I am literally begging for a few days of sanity.

"I can't live on the other side of England, knowing that my girlfriend is angry at me." The word 'girlfriend' almost made me throw up.

"I am not your girlfriend. You never asked me to be. You were the one who suggested we didn't put a label in our relationship and me being a classic idiot, I agreed" It should have been a warning sign that Jenson was not taking me as seriously as I thought.

"I thought that by saying 'I love you' to each other, this meant that our relationship was serious enough that we didn't have to labelize it."

"The moment you finally realise what I am to you, instead of just assuming, give me a call Jenson." I try to shut the door at his face but he holds it open with his arm. Fuck him.

"You have to be joking? Right? Come on Chels, don't act like a five year old." The moment those words left his mouth, I could have easily shed a river of tears but I had to show him that I wasn't as vulnerable as the current situation made me be.

Asking him to take me seriously is me acting like a kid? By that, he simply proves my point.

In the heat of the moment, before I could answer, Mason showed up, holding two bottles of wine, empty. I was kind of weird out by what he was trying to do. But I didn't question him.

"Hey, I am so sorry to interrupt, but you had promised to give me some of your cousin's wine. Guests are waiting." Mason said in a shyly manner, trying not to catch Jenson's attention too much.

"Oh yes, sorry, they are in my celery, let me bring them." I say, thankfully with the assistance of Mason and him using a very convincing lie.

"I will call you tomorrow Chelsea. You better pick up." Jenson's voice was extremely stern and all I did was nod to him. Not even a 'goodbye'. A simple head movement.

Jenson shut the door behind him and Mason let out a sigh of relief. He placed the bottles on the table and pulled out his phone to text someone, who ended up being Ben himself.

"Are you okay? The moment I heard screaming, I thought something was going on and we both got worried." My heart melted at the thought of two footballers and possible best mates of mine worrying about loud noises.

"Wait, who is we? Do you actually have guests?"

"No. I was on the phone with Ben when the yelling started. I told him about it and he got so worried that he was about to tell me to call the police."

Ben barely knows me 48 hours and yet he acts like the boyfriend Jenson isn't. Cares about me from distance and needs a double check from his friend.

"Thank you guys for everything. I don't know how to repay you. You saved a possible self invitation of Jenson at my house."

"It was nothing, Chels. We are friends. That's what we do. No need to repay us."

"Sure? If you need anything just tell me."

"Well, now that I am thinking about it, would you like to attend with me Chelsea vs Crystal Palace? Unless you're on the commentary box during the game."

"I won't be. Because the next day I will be commentating on United vs Fulham."

"Is that a yes then?"

OH MAN. thank you so much 😭 i sort of talked about him here kinda recentish! as for other stuff… i will say that i feel like i’ve seen a lot of takes recently about adam’s relationship with his dad that i don’t really vibe with. 🤔 implying that he doesn’t care about adam’s wants/needs, or that adam’s scared of his dad, which i don’t think is the case at all…

like, if you think about it. to adam and his dad, bombay is the villain of d1. the movie framed adam’s switch to the ducks as something positive for bombay, the ducks, and, eventually, adam. and–while this may be true–reverse the situation and you end up with a father who is told that his kid can no longer play on the team that he wants to play on. the team where he has his friends, the team his big brother (who adam most likely admires) used to play for. like!!! IMAGINE. some jackass coach from the worst team in the league coming up to gleefully tell you that your son–who is not only incredibly talented but loves the game–can’t play for the rest of the season or his team will have to forfeit. i would’ve socked bombay right there in the face lmao. THE AUDACITY!!! 

so, phillip banks tries to do what any involved father would do: find a way around it. possibily throw a bunch of money at it, because he’s in a position that he can. again, bombay refuses. not because he wants to give adam a place where he’d be treated better. no. he doesn’t know that kid. bombay says no because he’s a petty bitch, knows that adam is a great player, and does not want to give reilly the advantage. then he leaves the office quacking like an asshole. if i had been phillip banks, i would’ve been questioning that man’s sanity.

ANYWAY. we know phillip’s opinion: according to him, adam would rather not play than play for the ducks. except! adam shows up in the locker room anyway, which means that his choice was different: he just wants to play hockey, no matter where it is. and, rather than telling him no (especially after witnessing how much of a quack his new coach is), phillip agreed. 

this shows us two things: 1) phillip cares enough about adam that he’s willing to let him go to a team that he (phillip) may not like, as long as it means his son gets what he wants (aka to play hockey). and 2) adam does not cower around phillip. he was able to tell him that he wanted to play and “win” whatever argument there might’ve been. it was adam’s choice. i think this is a very important distinction to make.

“but tumblr user gaffney,” i hear someone cry in the distance, “what about that time adam’s dad wore a hawks jacket to the finals?” WELL, random shout in the void, it’s like i said: to adam and his dad, bombay’s the villain. we don’t see phillip ever interact with bombay again prior to adam’s injury. now add the fact that adam wasn’t exactly welcomed to the team and most likely returned home from practice every week with another story of how jesse hall glared at him from across the rink (with good reason but that’s another story). it’s very likely that adam himself thought he’d be going back to the hawks after this season. he was still embarrassed/uncomfortable/trying to hide his face when he saw mcgill & larson, and this was after they’d made the playoffs. basically, phillip had no damn reason to support the ducks, even if his son was on the team. and even despite that, he cheered adam on. he left his seat immediately once adam was injured. they held hands when adam was rolled off the ice. 

then there’s d2. in flashbacks, we see bombay’s dad, who appeared to be a really good guy before his death. bombay then draws parallels between his dad and adam’s dad, which is something he probably would not do if he (still) hated adam’s dad or (still) thought he was an awful human being. to quote bombay, “(bombay’s dad) didn’t need me to score a hundred goals for him. he was proud of me because i was his son, and i did my best. i’m sure that’s how your dad feels. i know it is.”

Got told by a friend who also reads the tumblr that my ramblings about Doctor Who are the same as you with ReBoot: "endlessly trying to get people to watch a show just so you can have someone to talk to about it" as they said. and I wanted to ask how you managed to get people into a show they are put off from due to being told about it a lot? also what are your thoughts on Doctor Who and it's 60 year history?

In my experience convincing someone to try a show is like 20% your actual pitch and 80% them. Your pitch can help them decide if they might like the show, but it's up to them to decide if and when they'll actually watch it. They need to be in the right headspace, have the right kind of schedule, nothing else eating their attention, etc. Some people just don't do bingewatching, or they only do bingewatching and need to block out a long weekend to power through. And since I know a lot of artists, sometimes they react to media in unpredictable ways - an episode will hit them just right and suddenly they're off on a tangent and can't even think about watching TV.

It can be a bit frustrating if you really want to talk to them about it right this minute, but honestly I've had some very nice discussions about media with people who haven't tried it, and I've been on the other side of that dynamic as well. I first got into Leverage because my dad used it as an offhand example when describing a frustration he had with longform media (that characters wouldn't be allowed to overcome their personal issues because they made good drama) and it intrigued me at exactly the right time to make me want to check it out. Hell, the entire point of the Detail Diatribe format is one of us rambling an explanation of what makes a piece of media so cool or so annoying to an audience surrogate who hasn't seen it.

I have had luck offering to watch shows with people before - I sat through the first three episodes of The Owl House with a friend recently and she really liked it, though last I checked she hadn't watched more since. I got another one into Transformers Prime by just showing the Starscream episodes which I knew would hit just right. The downside is sometimes I'll be told that they haven't watched more since because they like watching it with me specifically, which is both very sweet and mildly frustrating.

But when it comes to the actual pitch, in my experience it's good to zero in on the parts you personally really liked and the parts you think they specifically would really like. For Doctor Who, I loved the RTD portrayal of 9 and 10 as "lonely gods," and I really liked the angsty character drama, but to get someone into the show I'd probably show something like Blink, which stands on its own with a very simple yet scary monster premise, or Vincent and the Doctor, which highlights the historical angle, is incredibly emotionally impactful and also stands on its own without needing much overarching context or understanding of the show. Neither of these episodes show the parts of the overarching story that I liked, but they work well to communicate the general vibes without needing too much outside context, and they're about as good as the show gets.

As for Doctor Who specifically, I was watching New Who as soon as it started because my parents were so into it (which meant I had nightmares for months about that fucking gas mask zombie two-parter jesus christ) and I really liked the 9 and 10 runs, with a slight preference for 10 because he was a little less grumpy. I stuck through the whole 11 era even though I kinda stopped liking it after Amy and Rory left, and I finally tapped out with 12. The problem was I was watching Sherlock around the same time and was starting to notice Moffat's habit of rewriting all his heroes into deeply unlikable turbochad megageniuses and then turning directly to camera and saying "isn't he wonderful? if you don't agree you're shallow." Because it's a really good sign when you kick off your season by guilt-tripping your audience into watching!

Even that didn't fully wreck it for me, but I remember the exact episode that made me go "yep, think I'm good" - series 8, episode 5, "time heist." The Doctor and friends wake up in a weird room with some strangers and no memory of how they got there, a hooded figure on a screen tells them they all agreed to get their memories wiped to rob a bank and that they all have doohickeys that will instantly "shred them to atoms" that they're supposed to use to avoid capture by the telepathic minotaur thing that'll melt their brains if it catches them. Now, rule number one of character deaths is "if it doesn't leave a body, they're not actually dead," so I figured the doohickeys were teleporters, and the hooded "architect" pulling the strings from a TV screen was probably a recording of one of the memory-wiped characters pulling the strings - most likely The Doctor, what with him being the genius master planner type. These twists aren't particularly complicated. I cannot stress enough how simple "The Doctor orchestrated a mildly clever way to break into a secure vault without the telepathic minotaur thing finding out" is. The part where I tapped out is when The Doctor went off on a long-winded, very impressed monologue about how ingenious this whole scheme was, culminating in the big reveal that the brilliant architect who orchestrated this entire scenario was in fact……… The Doctor. Obviously.

My tolerance for authorial wanking is very low, and while a lengthy monologue by the hero about how smart the hero's plan was is tolerable when the hero is an egotistical genius about to be taken down a few pegs by the narrative, a lengthy monologue by the hero about how smart the writer was for writing the hero's plan is another animal entirely, and it circles around to being frankly insulting when the plan is that basic. "I put on a hood, recorded a video, wiped my own memory and then watched the video. Truly my genius is unparalleled on this or any other world."

So yea, that's about when I called it off, and why I wasn't particularly surprised when Sherlock season 4 turned into an unmitigated tire fire. I watched a few episodes after The Doctor regenerated into 13, but I kinda fell off the wagon after it started looking like none of the characters were getting arcs I was interested in following.

Historically, Doctor Who hasn't been good, it's been fun. I've watched some snippets of Old Who and found them difficult to stick with. It's had an astoundingly widespread cultural impact, but it's one of those things I don't really get, and because the show changes so much from season to season and Doctor to Doctor I think it makes sense that most fans are really only fans of very specific eras and doctors. If the whole show changes out from under you, it makes sense you might not be as invested afterwards - that's just the nature of the game when the franchise has been running since 1963.

The Summer I Turned Pretty 1x04 Review -- This was probably the most boring episode and it shouldn't have been considering what happens

"The fourth of July in Cousins is all about traditions." I think that's a pretty widespread phenomenon, Belly.

Like both Susannah and Laurel talk to their kids about their dads with little regard to how they feel about the situation.

"Is this what it would be like if we were older? Me and Conrad together?" You're literally making up a bed, Belly.

And if the point is that you're just SO happy to be in a space together where it's just the two of you -- even though you've been a space just with him before -- that's when you do things like an accidental brush of the arms gets you excited or casual touches on the shoulders/back make you hold your breath. Like it still needs to be charged moments just casually done.

Which is why something like this doesn't really work for me

because she reacts like they're just bros and there isn't the best friend breakdown of what happened afterwards with Taylor where she's like "So, he messed with my hair but in a friend way not in a something-more-way?" "OK walk me through it, how did it happen, where were you standing" (unless I missed it which is very possible)

whereas something like this -- they don't end up together because she and Shin belong together, but she's cheesing SO HARD

So is the way they pal around different from the way she pals around with Jeremiah and vice versa? What makes her interactions with either brother unique from each other.

What would make more sense is if she and Taylor didn't talk when she left and Belly gets drunk and she feels left out of the conversation when they're comparing Ibiza to whatever else and she leaves to call Taylor because she doesn't feel comfortable with them and then they're having a heart to heart and she's like "I'm not mad that you made out with Steven" and then Shayla, who would go after her to see if she's OK since she's a) dating Steven so she would want to check on his sister b) she's actually pretty nice overheard.

Like if the point is that she's projecting her "stuff" with Conrad and Nicole onto Taylor Shayla and Steven, I also don't buy that because she's supposed to be really drunk so she would just blabber about her and Conrad.

Even though Conrad isn't playing her hot and cold. He's just been cold.

Teba and Saki have those parent instincts on Lock. And not just for all four of them but Riju, Yonobo, Revali, and Mipha and Sidon (despite those last two having an actual Dad around.) (Granted they aren't really the 'Primary' parents but still, they will be that older Mom/Dad friend and they will make you feel bad for lying to them. Or for teaching Tulin new swear words.) Daruk is also Dad and Urbosa have achieved Peak Wine Mom/Aunt vibes. And I'm throwing in Dorephan too. He tends to Dad the Champions and Sages too. (*holds him up* I just think he's neat.)

Champ calls him Dad exactly once and Dorephan is in tears. He's so happy with his soon-as-Sidon-Gets-His-Act-Together-son-in-law and He straight up adores his feral in-laws who scare the crap out out of Muzu and their sole source of sense who seeks him out for tea and talks.

The Four lost their parents in the Calamity and came out with a whole pack of parental figures.

Speaking of losing people, I feel Aaliyah more than Sage but he still gets it too occasionally, they also have issues with separating these Champions with the ones who died. Again nothing is held against them, but it still takes everyone a second to readjust when a memory one person has doesn't entirely sync up with another person's memory.

Aaliyah is not literally chained to a bed for the duration of her pregnancy but it is a damn near thing. She's chewing on everyone, left and right. Sage especially.

Tia will abuse both her magic and her surprising buffness to cart off her idiots. They drives her crazy and just wants five minutes, but they are her idiots at the end of the day.

Aaliyah is the favourite purely because she's the only one who stays to listen. Champ just clamped his hands over his ears like a kid (which fair. thats his Person and ew.) while Sage just about turns straight out of the door (which rude. She listened to all your pining!) And they wonder why Aaliyah gets an inch more leeway than they do.

Aaliyah just straight up YEETING the contraceptive into First's face and yelling about she doesn't want to hear shit anymore is hysterical to me because none of the three would have any idea. And Tia is left to awkwardly straight-faced explain that while she appreciates them respecting protocol and all that jazz, please at least hold her hand and stop leaving room for Hylia. Hylia aint done shit for her. And while they don't have to take her straight to her room and leave her boneless for the rest of the day, a little defilement never hurt anyone. Please she will beg if she has too. She did not spend 100 years holding back Ganon just to get cockblocked by her position as Queen. She will wait until marriage if that's what they're comfortable with but, please stop treating her delicately all the fucking time.

(Tia blames Hylia and potentially Sky's Zelda because if she hadn't gotten laid and started the Royal Lineage, then Tia wouldn't be getting cockblocked now.)

As I love literally all the companions, bc they are all so messy and beloved to me, most of my characters tend to have that disastrous found family dynamic that I adore <3 but ye I think they've all got their own relationships with each other them

I think Pyre gets along really well with Karlach? Which I imagine surprises the others, somewhat. But they're both soldiers, at the end of the day, and there's a comfortable familiarity in that dynamic for both of them. Karlach, of course, is somewhat irreverent when she responds "Sir yes sir" to Pyre giving her an order, but he finds her energy and zest for life really refreshing? They both know what it's like to be a prisoner, after all, and to cherish the freedom they have, knowing what it's like to claw your way out of hell.

He gets along with Lae'zel for similar reasons in one direction, and Wyll in another. He and Lae'zel talk shop and strategy a lot, and she respects his shrewdness and forceful decisiveness, and he her focus, determination, and discipline.

With Wyll, once things come out about Mizora, there is definitely an uncomfortable familiarity for him, and it makes him determined to help Wyll escape the contract however he can.

I feel that Pyre feels much older than the rest of the party, save Astarion and Halsin, and it's sort of given him a reluctant dad vibe 😩 Well, he acts gruff and reluctant, but I think deep down he enjoys having this sort of close bond with them all. He's been alone for so long...

As for non-party members? He and Zevlor get along fairly well, even though I feel like it doesn't seem that way to most who see it. I can definitely see some history between the two of them, and I think they interact exactly how you'd expect two gruff old men to interact.

NOW FOR MOSS

With Moss, I think the rest of the party wind up very protective of him. He's so open and earnest, and also just... doesn't understand a lot of the intricacies of the world around him. He's very clearly completely lost, with no memories to speak of, not even a name at first. Still, he's determined to survive same as they are, and he becomes... terrifyingly loyal to them, very quickly.

They have to help him a lot with just becoming a functional person? And tbh I feel like some of them take that duty VERY seriously. Gale for sure. Especially bc Moss will happily listen to him explain magic things for hours on end just staring at him like 🥺. He and Shadowheart bond over that shared amnesiac trauma, and also later on the fun Abusive Parent situations. Lae'zel admires his power and brutality when it's necessary, and his struggle to resist that brutality when it isn't. Wyll just admires how honest he is about what he is and what he's feeling, and how empathetic he is when he has absolutely no reason to be.

Karlach has decided she's his big sister, even if he is A Good Bit Bigger Than Her. She cannot wait until it is safe to put him in an affectionate headlock and give him a noogie 😩

Halsin takes on a mentor role as a fellow druid because there's a lot about being one that Moss, oddly enough, doesn't really understand? Moss respects him enormously.

At the end of the day, Moss would tear out the entrails of any who dared hurt any of his friends and eat them bloody (ʘ‿ʘ✿)

theres also metarthur which is my very very beloved longtime rarepair. which i um. uh. ahahahah............. i get very slightly nervous talking about on main because a lot of people hc arthur as meta knights dad or parental figure but i shouldnt be nervous about hc differences really....... anyways theyre supposed to be like parallels of each other. people who are opposites thematically (arthur being leader of the gsa; mk being a former deeply infamous demon beast) who find themselves in similar positions in that they both kinda struggle with their sense of purpose vs their sense of self. meta knight sees his past struggles in arthur and so he finds himself drawn to him. he cant really Solve his situation, but (during their war-time relationship specifically) he hopes to offer some solace to him which functions as a form of catharsis to mk himself too. the two get to connect and understand each other in a unique way. i wont get too into this one right now either lol since the dynamic changes a lot depending on if its their during-war relationship or post-war relationship but theres the basics. i have a comic expanding on their general relationship in my drafts too but its at the bottom of my to-do list tbh. maybe someday though

im only into this one casually nowadays but morphogala... you really cant go wrong with "knight of death saves the greatest warrior in the galaxy from their torturous fate". something something the themes of wishing for the release of death being subverted into yes, death itself releasing you but in a way that actually Saves and rescues you instead. the hope and love in spite of all of the hopelessness AHHHHGH the themes of this one make me so weak. theres so much potential...... i really love this one on an aesthetic level too

Alright, I've been looking at all the queer crap, so Imma rant about that today. (I also accidentally reblogged a Nimona post on here instead trashlikesmedia so oops, but you can see where I started.)

Labels suck but I need them so there. I consider myself asexual, I came to this conclusion last summer. I've never been in a relationship, never really had any crushes. I always joked about how I had a crush on this guy in like 3rd grade and he liked my best friend (who I didn't actually like but that's a different story), and I've never loved since, but like it's true. I haven't. I always had this idea that I just hadn't met someone worth crushing on. I would ask people how they got into relationships and they'd always be like "just be yourself, one day the right guy will come along and it'll all work out" which was not helpful at all. My younger sibling is queer and they kind of introduced me to a lot of different identities and ideas, and it just kind of grew from there. It all started with me acknowledging the fact that I didn't want to sleep with women, and I felt the same way about women as I do about men, so I'm bi? pan? ace? It took a while to get comfortable with it, but now I'm here confidently ace.

Then the romantic side of things got tough. I've been on exactly one date (it was terrible, I did not like the guy and he did not put in a lot of effort and it was so uncomfortable), and I've only ever really had one crush on a guy and it was such a weird experience, that I couldn't figure out what was going on. (that was actually last summer and part of me realizing I was ace was being excited to hang out and talk with him but physically recoiling when I even thought about kissing him), so romance was not my thing. I do identify as aromantic, because it's the label that most closely matches my feelings and experiences, but I still feel like it's not right. I don't know if it's because I genuinely am alloromantic, or because I so desperately crave romance.

The big deal of it all is that I grew up in a not great family environment. My parents hate each other, especially my mom to my dad. They have been outwardly antagonistic towards each other for as long as I can remember. (I think the only reason they haven't gotten divorced is because it would be too expensive and my mom doesn't want to lose my dad's paycheck.) That contrasted really sharply with all the romance I would read about and see in movies and stuff. I'm a big reader and I have always loved romance. So I grew up with this reality of a terrible relationship and a fantasy of a perfect romance. I constantly worried that I would either settle for a terrible relationship because I thought that was realistic or end up alone because nothing matched my standards. Now, I don't know if my aromantic feelings are just because I'm scared of relationships and all of that nonsense or if I'm just genuinely not attracted to people. It keeps me up at night. At the end of the day, I just vibe and hope that everything works out.

In regards to gender, boy howdy do I have feelings. Cause like, gender isn't real, it's a social and cultural concept that people cling to because they like order. This is not invalidating trans people, gender and body dysmorphia is a very real thing and associating your identity, experiences, and sense of self with a gender and/or sex is normal, whether it aligns with your gender assigned at birth or not. My sentiment is more about the way society views gender as 1) a binary that aligns perfectly with sex and 2) an inflexible and constant pillar of identity that comes before any other identifiers. This is where I got beef. At the end of the day, your personal experience of gender is just that, personal. It's a part of who you are, but it's also influenced heavily by the way society views gender and gender norms, that's inevitable. My personal feelings are just complicated. I identify as a woman and use she/her pronouns because it's easy, not because I feel particularly aligned with the female gender. I'm not uncomfortable being perceived as a woman, but I also just don't care. Gender just isn't something that I consider important to my identity. I am me, I love these things, I do these things, these are my opinions. Y'know? (It probably doesn't help that my sense of self is also just wack, but whatever.) Something that I am uncomfortable with is being viewed as a woman before being viewed as a person. I have always called myself an actor, not an actress. Cause what's an actor? Someone who acts. What's an actress? A woman who acts. Why should part of my identifier clarify that I am a woman? That just doesn't make any sense to me. This view is rooted in my feminist ideals as well, as I've always been an advocate of getting rid of gendered job titles, seeing as the masculine form is almost always the default. However, I can't help but correlate the feelings. I just want to be a person, not a woman. Most of my hesitation in reaching out to and looking into the genderqueer community is just imposter syndrome probably. I don't care about being a woman, I don't feel gender dysphoria, people on the street probably aren't going to hate crime me for not aligning myself with a binary gender, so why should I try to claim any of this. Maybe it's just me making up excuses and pretending to be queer so I can feel cool or special. Maybe all the queerphobes are right and I am pretending to aroace and nonbinary so I can fit in with all the cool kids without actually having to date a woman and transition. I know that's a messed up view. Everyone's experience with gender and sexuality is extremely unique and no one will fit into a single box. I'm allowed to have these feelings without hating myself. It's just hard and scary. But c'est la vie.

On a lighter note, I love the asexual pride flag, it's so pretty, and I love the aromantic pride flag, it is also very pretty. But the aroace flag isn't that great. The colors just don't itch my brain the way the asexual and aromantic flags do individually y'know?

Long post, but I got's lots of feelings. I'm sure I'll make a bunch of posts about queerness, it do be a thing, but this was a good way to get my base feelings just out there.

Like I said in the P7 family post I was typing up, Compton's parents were the wealthiest of all the 7's parents. I don't know if they run/own a fancy resturaunt brand or something to do with animals or what but they're like fanciful edwardian non-psychics who care a lot about their Image and how other people See Them. this certainly had no adverse affects on their child whatsoever

I mused a bit about Compton having a sibling or two, but still not sure about exactly how that manifests in the broader scope of things. it just ""sounds right"" whatever that really means

Harvey, my friend Harvey, met Compton in their young adult years because Harvey's family runs some kind of rustic ranch that the Booles held a fancy little charity event at and Compton was like "wow... you like horses....... this must be Romantic Love"

whether it actually was Romantic or just Compton and Harvey being very close i don't know. i like aroace compton and also gay compton. both can hold hands bc orientation is silly like that

the important part is they liked each other enough to get married. or like domestic partners at least. they move in. oh my god they were roommates.

their daughter, dont worry about how they had a kid, i never have a name for her. I'll call her Suzy just to have a name.

but i think Suzy's not psychic and takes after harvey a little more than compton, which was ok for a long while. compton actually raised her with harvey at least up into her teens, because I think she was 16-19 years old when the Incident Happened.

i think this bc i feel like Suzy and Truman have to be around the same age? it makes sense in my head for that to be the case at least. Don't worry about it.

Sam's prison/mom line in the diner gives me a couple options. either Suzy went to prison, works at a prison, or Sam's just being a little sillay.

I tend to gravitate toward "works at a prison" or "sam is being sillay". I saw a headcanon once that the noodle bowl chef lady is Sam & Dogen's mom, which is cute, I think about it sometimes, but i also dont rly think she feels like their mom. to me at least. but it was interesting to bring up.

what headcanons I actually have abt Suzy amount to thinking she's... well meaning but maybe the worst parent out of the Truman/Augustus&Donatella "second gen" of psychonauts folks.

to say the subtext as text, Dogen being cut to when Raz says "your mother is afriad of you", it always gives me autism mommy vibes. like Suzy goes oh my poor little dogen and sam are so Strange, just like my Father. I don't want them to become Criminals, Also Just Like My Father. and she maybe makes some poor decisions because of it. Not as awful as say Loboto's parents. but not great.

Their Dad I think is the most guy ever. just a real nobody kinda dude. he carries a briefcase. works a nine to five. loves to talk about the Big Game. has kind of a minnasota accent when I try to imagine him talking. car grill mustache.

Compton has a weird, awkward relationship with Suzy & her husband bc of all this. He had kind of lost contact with her and Harvey after moving to GNG, and didn't hear from them again until well after the Psychonauts became a government agency because that's when he learned 1) he's a grandparent and 2) little baby Sam is burning the curtains oh god what do i do . I imagine Suzy made a panicked call to the Psychonauts one day and it got redirected to Compton once the family name came up and it was the most awkward phone call in the history of man kind.

Compton does love his grandkids though. And he's tried a lot of times to let his own kid and his ex-husband that they are welcome at the Psychonauts. he might not be available but yknow the other agents here are more capable anyways have you met Truman he's also a dad.
