This Week In BL - I’m pleased with what’s airing, but conflicted about what’s ended & getting started
Aug 2023 Wk 1
Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs. Organized by which ones (in each category) I’m enjoying most.
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Thai
Laws of Attraction (Sat iQIYI) 4 of 8 - Omg the way the bodyguard (handler?) looks at the rich kid. Gah. I see why @heretherebedork loves these 2. But I really hate him (not the handler, the kid). Fun fight scene. I love lawyer babygirl SO MUCH. HE WILL BE MY 2023 FAV CHARACTER. I’M CALLING IT. This ep, Srs? You’re killing me. Suits! Pussycat bows! And then... The Public Claiming!!!!! One of my favorite tropes! And openly flirting? Boys. I’m getting spoiled. Wait… is that…? NO SINGING. Ah well, Thai BL giveth and Thai BL taketh away.
Hidden Agenda that isn’t hidden (Sun GMMTV YouTube) ep 4 of 10 - I like the script for this. It feels like the conversations they have are very honest to a uni experience. It’s comfortable and breezy. I did not expect the kiss. Bit early in the arc. There is either going to be a lot of backend drama, or a long domestic honeymoon period. (Bet you can guess which one I vote for.)
Low Frequency (Sat iQIYI) ep 5 of 8 - It’s moving along in a Ghost Host kinda way (minus the killer chemistry). I’m not mad about it, I don’t think I'll remember it tho.
Be Mine Super Star (Mon Viki) ep 5 of 12 - My ambivalent relationship with this drama continues. Cohabitation trope. Punn is basically a huge puppy trying to spoil/cuddle/fuck his pretty kitty prince. It is what it is. Meanwhile, I just want more of Big Daddy & the Hot Doc. (Also the name of my burlesque show.) Why does Kevin have more chemistry with Ashi in a 1 min long scene than Punn has had… ever? Is this nascent bad boy effect or nascent 2nd lead syndrome I’m feeling? (Meanwhile Ben! Hi! Long time no see!)
Be My Favorite (Fri YouTube) ep 11 of 12 - Whatever. Trash(ish) watch here.
Dinosaur Love (Sun iQIYI) ep 6 of 8 eps - Aw pretty baby is unhappy his bf got injured. But also very blushing maiden. This is profoundly NOT GOOD.
Wedding Plan (Weds YT & iQIYI) ep 3 of 7 - I have decided that Lom’s theme song is BigBang’s Monster. Listen. You’ll see what I mean. Also BigBang = also very problematic but banging. What I’m saying is, I wanna punch Lom so bad, I went slightly bonkers. Water sports are addressed. A trash watch is happening!
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
Jun & Jun (Korea Thurs Viki) 3 of 8 - How DARE they make me love this show so much? I feel personally attacked. The smell thing! Gah. The way they automatically go informal in private. The flirting. The language. The suits, the EVERYTHING. It’s embarrassing how much I rewatch the final bits of each ep.
Stay By My Side (Taiwan Fri Gaga) 6 of 10 eps - I adore this ridiculous show. (I just realized that the actor playing Jiang Chi played Ray’s evil 2-timing bf in About Youth). Baby boy is quite clueless. Sweet dreams tho. I love them both so much. The washing his jersey scene was so fucking cute. Couple’s numbers, couple’s keychains, bridal towel, kisses. Thank you Taiwan for NOT activating blushing maiden. However, confident gay/confused bisexual is a go. And we got us some justifiable angst. Sigh. I’m so happy.
Sing My Crush AKA Follow The Wind (Korea Weds iQIYI) 1-2 of 8 eps - supposed to have released in the first half of 2022 this is a adaption of Myung’s webtoon, from the director of My Sweet Dear, and Love Tractor’s production house, basically Korea does About Youth. It’s sweet (the singing bits are easy to skip) and very much a story of young first love but less stiff than KBL’s usual high school fare (kinda Taiwan feeling). I like it but that very imprecision in production makes me concerned for an HEA, especially with such a low MDL rating.
Tokyo in April is... AKA Shigatsu no Tokyo wa (Japan Fri Gaga) ep 8fin  - Rough final episode, but it does end happily. Fortunately, I had some warning for my personal triggers, but this is Japan and they did go dark. Full review below.
Minato's Laundromat Season 2 AKA Minato Shouji Coin Laundry Season 2 (Japan Thu Gaga) 5 of 12 eps - Shin is so cute and proud and boldly out. I love him. Movement in the relationship with both couples, even if it’s movement into arguments and misunderstanding. I suppose we got 12 eps they need to do... something.
Stay Still (Hong Kong Tues YouTube) 1 of 5 eps - It’s confusing. And… not good? Some flashbacks some present day?
It’s airing but ...
Stay With Me ... NO I WILL NOT! And you can’t make me.

Review: Tokyo in April is... AKA Shigatsu no Tokyo wa
I had to chew on this for a while but here’s where I ended up.
Two young men with a shared tragic past reunite and fall in love all over again, but the past will not stop hunting them. Based on a manga, this office set reunion romance is GREAT… damn it. It’s Japan in full on soft focus which means it gets emo, abusive, and chewy. These two characters are giving parts of their souls away in a desperate attempt to shape themselves to the expectations they have of each other.
Japan gave us the Bed Friends that Thailand could never even imagine. But here’s the thing: I don’t enjoy my BL this heavy and cutting. I know that for The 8th Sense crowd this is peak BL and I can’t argue with the fact that the romantic devotion, domesticity, script, and acting IS all on point. It’s just not my personal preference for that point to be so damn sharp. I appreciate that this being 2023 I have the luxury of consistent quality (especially from Japan) and thus the ability to say…
I acknowledge that this SHOULD get a 9/10 but I can’t emotionally go higher than 8/10
RECOMMENDED BUT KNOW WHAT KIND OF BL THIS IS AND TRIGGER WARNINGS LIKE CRAZY
Japan = sticking to its lanes like their BL is on rails.
Next Week Looks Like This:
Starting:
8/11 Love Class Season 2 (Korea Fri Viki) 10 eps
8/12 My Personal Weatherman AKA Taikan Yoho (Japan Sat Gaga) 8 eps
Tumblr media
Still Coming August 2023
8/19 Love in Translation (Thai Sat One31) ? eps - Two strangers start working in a cafe together.
8/19 I Feel You Linger in the Air (Thai Sat Gaga) 12 eps - The time travel historical romance many of us have been waiting for.
8/20 My Universe series (Thai Sun iQIYI) 24 episodes - This is sampler pack BL, 12 pairs, each pair gets 2 eps, not sure on the order they’ll drop. Known couples include EarthBank from Destiny Seeker and KaownahTurbo from Love Stage!!!, mostly fresh faces otherwise. Jane to direct several.
8/22 Kisseki: Dear to Me formerly known as Miracle (Taiwan Tues ????) 13 eps - From screenwriter Lin Pei Yu (We Best Love, H3: Trapped) features a student doctor forced to take care of a gangster. I love the premise and like the writer, Viki or Gaga will get this one.
8/24 Man Suang (Thailand movie, domestic cinema release) - historical drama about Thai burlesque with KP’s MileApo. Tong is in this one too?
8/? Why R U? (Korean remake) is supposed to be out this month, filming started in sept 22. I find everything about this hilarious. I mean if Korea remakes it, we lose all the sexy and then... would we have a story at all? No we would not. Not even for six short eps. It’d be like one of those mesh shopping bags.
Oh yeah, Only Friends is coming.
2023 forthcoming BL master post (see comments, some are inaccurate, NOT KEPT UPDATED)
THIS WEEK’S BEST MOMENTS
Tumblr media
Hidden Agenda. I love them.
Tumblr media
Public claiming with the waist grab maneuver! A true hero.
Tumblr media
But I think we can all agree that THIS is the hero all love triangles deserve. (both Laws)

Azeez as romance tropes: HJ, SH, YH, MG
Vote for your favorite summary! Whoever wins I'll post a fic based on that trope.
OVERTIME
(Hongjoong x fem!reader - friends to lovers)
After getting assigned to work hand in hand with the team of a labels company, you meet ATEEZ leader Hongjoong. Months filled with sleepless nights, company dinners, and deep conversations together, you wondered, are co-workers supposed to look at each other like this?
STRAWBERRY MARMALADE
(Seonghwa x fem!reader - idol x fan, love at first sight)
You’re a fan of Seonghwa and have been for a long time. He recognizes you when he unexpectedly appears at your job with a friend. You’ve attended many ATEEZ concerts and events just to see him. You never thought you’d finally be noticed here, no makeup, sweaty, and in your apron. After purposely returning to see you time after time, encaptured by your kindness and beauty, he realizes he’s fallen for his fan.
#1 PURE LOVE OPERATION
(Yunho x fem!reader - fake dating)
You landed an acting gig in South Korea as the female lead in the new upcoming webtoon adaptation. Your acting partner, and love interest, is K-pop idol Jung Yunho. Your relationship quickly develops through months of working on the project together. A kissing scene between you two went viral, receiving popularity from fans throughout South Korea and The States. During interviews, you guys shared stories on the year-long journey, and fans quickly noticed your close relationship. Even though it was all fake, why do you find it so hard to pack up your bags and move back home?
#2 SOMEONE LIKE YOU
(Yunho x fem!reader - childhood friends to lovers)
Brought back together by a mutual friend's birthday dinner, you meet your old friend, Yunho, whom you haven't seen in over 8 years. Everything about him reminds you of the boy who used to text you till midnight, dance to your horrible singing, and buy you your favorite snacks on your late-night walks around the city. All the memories of your shy, innocent best friend came rushing back–except now, he was taller, more confident…handsome.
WATCH ME
Mingi - she fell first but he fell harder
After getting hired at KQ as a BBT backup dancer, you found yourself amazed by ATEEZ rapper, Mingi. The way he danced, acted, carried himself with nonchalant confidence around people made you attracted to him. But he never noticed you, and you knew he never would. You were always with him for concerts and team gatherings only to admire his talent from afar. As a new project develops, you and Mingi begin spending unavoidable time together. Dancing in front of him and with him was the only way you could finally get his attention. Once he’s finally laid eyes on you, can he get them off?

This was supposed to be some form of Therdeo Dane Lapileon Defense Thesis but my brain cannot pull off all the necessary research to do it justice.
So I guess let’s just brain dump all my thoughts and feelings?? About this manhwa?? (Spoilers for the story up to episode 63 on Webtoons and 66 on Naver Webtoons)
...this also gets FAR too long so cut is here for sanity’s sake. Tl;dr Theo Lapileon is a wounded puppy and I want him to be happy gdi
I need to preface the Theo content by saying that I adore Pereshati. I think she’s one of the more realistic heroines that I’ve read, in the sense that she’s plucky and determined but she damn well knows how the game is played. Every move she makes is plagued with doubt and uncertainty coz she’s only a minor noble, and one with an unbelievable story at that. (Resurrecting after being fed poisonous blood and getting thrown back in time is a stretch for anyone). But whenever she does decide to do something, she handles herself with the kind of poise you’d expect from a grown woman who knows how polite society works. It’s the kind of elegance and maturity that the novel’s Perry doesn’t have.
I wonder very much how seungu would have thrown Perry into Theo’s way if they had had full control of the adaptation because the first... 10? episodes or so reads very much like a typical isekai manhwa: she’s murdered, she awakes, and then immediately besieges Theo with a proposal, simply because he needs to marry someone to get the emperor/princess off his back. The Perry we see currently in the latest chapters would likely have done something smarter/more socially acceptable/conventional simply because imperial pressure or no, why the fuck would the grand duke entertain a minor noble they’ve never met before?
Granted, this is quite in line with Theo’s character in the first few episodes as well (which is lampshaded in a later chapter AND I LOVED IT) whose excuse for entertaining her absurd request/proposal is just “I got curious about the woman who kept bombarding us with messages”. The Theo we see later, who just burns letters from the Fourth Princess Dodolea without even thinking about it, would have hardly buckled under that kind of insistence.
This is all pure speculation of course because the artist, seungu, has no social media I could trace. The original novel’s writer, Han Yoonseol, has Twitter and various socmed that show an active writing career and interest in the MILAOWM webtoon. But the artist? Nothing, apart from their work. They’ve completed a previous series (Google translated to “New Year’s Taste”) but that also seems like an adaptation. I have no access to their thought process, rationale or any inkling of why certain decisions were made.
Whatever the case though, those decisions so far have me hooked. They’re making changes that reflect something more... realistic, with higher stakes and actual consequences for the actions of the characters. E.g. you can’t humiliate, much less threaten, members of the nobility at a public function in front of a crowd without some sort of retaliation. Theo in the novel actually threatens to kill a nobleman in cold blood in front of a gathered audience whereas Theo in the manhwa does this in private.
Well, I say threaten. In the manhwa, he has just a fraction of the dialogue Novel!Theo says. Just one or two lines before he snaps and is about to decapitate a mofo before being restrained by his guards. The bullying incident that precipitates this is also dealt with realistic actions and importantly, contains a reflection on Perry’s part about the power and privilege the Lapileons have in this universe. I don’t know if this foreshadows anything but my mind has gone as far as the dissolution of the empire/defection to an enemy kingdom (and the loss of their noble titles) by the end of the whole manhwa. Far-fetched? Maybe, but I have so much faith in seungu by now and so little idea of what they’re planning that I won’t be surprised.
Manhwa!Therdeo Lapileon is also extremely taciturn and poker-faced, to all the natural disadvantages this sort of personality entails. Everything we know about him is told in silent images, or expressions we explicitly don’t see. This is a man who believes in actions over words, who has no idea that open communication is a Thing and that doing stuff behind a person’s back without telling them can backfire at times (”I’m gonna have someone follow my wife’s ex-fiance around without telling her, and that got her kidnapped. SHIT.”) And all the backstory that’s been hinted at so far gives us very sad explanations how he turned out this way.
One could very justifiably argue that actually, the entire Lapileon family is a collection of sad iron woobies. Saoirse lost her husband and only son because of her own blood, Phineas is doing his level best to save his family but keeps seeing them die despite his medical expertise, Gloria probably had a HELL of a marriage to survive this long, and the poor children have had their own bouts of suffering and daddy issues. And of course there’s also Pereshati who’s been murdered about 3-4 times at this point, and lost a most beloved father to a stepmother she loved to the moon and back.
BUT. Theo.
If the housekeeper’s flashback in Episode 47 is anything to go by, and if I’m guessing right, Theo and Saoirse’s father (maybe grandfather? Unclear at this point but let’s go with father for now) was a nightmare of a man. Slaughtering servants for infractions was probably a regular threat in the Lapileon home, and judging from that flashback during the episodes when they first find Islette, so was torturing and testing his younger son’s limits. His survival in the family was due to his “usefulness”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
One can suspect that of the three siblings, Theo was the one with the softest heart. We have no idea what his older brother (Celphi’s dad) was like yet and Saoirse is a Lapileon to the core: toughened enough to do what is needed, hardened even further by tragedy. She’s also a mom, which is why harming Islette earned Gen a rightful and vicious stiletto-heels-to-the-face-ass kicking. It also gets Theo a reprimand: get his shit together or step down from the headship of the family.
(And I’m just. Saoirse, honey, I love and respect you immensely and to be stepped on by your footwear of choice would be my honour. But that’s your younger brother we’re talking about. And he’s been emotionally sucker punched in just about every aspect. He’s trying, okay?)
I’m just saying that when you’re a child, and abused to that degree, sympathy from the devil is still sympathy. Of course it echoes to the present day even as a full-grown, supposedly rational adult. Of course it’s going to fuck you up.
You were also probably raised to put family above all (witness Theo not trusting Perry with the full truth of Celphi’s condition until circumstances force his hand, Saoirse only fully warming up to her once it’s clear she loves Celphi without any ulterior motive, Gloria immediately expecting her to be wrong about the family blood being sold, only to be confounded by the awful truth that this stranger to the family was right). You’ve been operating on the full expectation that any Lapileon would follow that creed. How could they not? Their curse is too great a responsibility.
Then you’re forced to confront the devil who once gave you rare comfort as a child, and that devil bears your family name and blood. Not only does he spout the most heinous things you’ve never imagined, he also manages to hit you where it hurts: you have used your blood. You have used it for your own benefit. Are you truly no better than he is? Who are you to judge him?
(Never mind that the devil is a liar and is trying to save his own ass which is why Saoirse, who has a better understanding of her own identity and self-worth, doesn’t give him enough time to say anything - she just kicks the shit out of him)
Is it any wonder Theo hesitates to do anything harsher?
Everything he does implies a reluctance to inflict lethal force if it can be helped. Perry remarks on it when he first removes Schiff without killing him the day they got married. He doesn’t even draw his sword on the assassin at the parade, merely KICKING HIM INTO ORBIT subduing him long enough to be taken in by the guards. The only times he has killed someone in the story is Perry’s ex-fiance who had kidnapped and blackmailed her, and... well, Perry herself.
(Which again goes back to that weird early episode installment - how do you reconcile him feeding her his blood in such a cavalier manner with the gravity of his responsibility as head of the family to ensure their blood isn’t used exactly like that?
You give him a HUGEASS dose of remorse and guilt later on when Gen accuses him of also using the blood to his own advantage, and then have him offer a sincere apology to the woman he experimented on.)
He also very nearly murdered the father of the child who bullied his ward. But even that was prevented by Raymon, the guard. This is more speculation on my part but his personal guards - who are all loyal to him beyond a doubt - may have been instructed (by him?) to restrain Theo, maybe to make sure he doesn’t repeat the sins of his father who just murdered people as and when it suited him. I don’t know if seungu would even bring this up at some point but I’ll be thrilled if that is the case.
This abusive childhood is compounded by the trauma of war. Theo specifically is credited with just swooping in out of the blue and ending the conflict between the Castor Empire and the kingdom of Schwartz. His reaction to being hailed a hero is to show up covered in blood to report to the emperor, and then disappear back to the country without attending any ceremonies. It earns him the notorious reputation of being “the bloodthirsty war fiend”.
Judging from Episode 13, what he really earned was a lifelong diagnosis of PTSD and various other neuroses. “Fuck this noise, I’m going home” was a reasonable reaction from a man who has no care or time for polite society. I'd go a bit further to suggest he also didn’t want to hear his actions being lauded as heroic when all he experienced was violence and death (re: that line about him being glad his statue was destroyed, that it’d been a stain on his honour). Whatever he did was to satisfy the emperor who has some form of hold over him, and absolutely no respect for the Lapileons (every single reaction from any imperial family member, even creepy Dodolea, has been sneering condescension or reluctant compliments). So from that perspective, why the hell would he have stayed to schmooze at the castle?
There are no therapists in Castor clearly coz Theo does what most soft-hearted introverts do and represses the shit out of his trauma. Just... stuff it WAY down into the depths of his subconscious and never address it because what the fuck else would you expect him to do? Talk about his ~*~feelings~*~ in the Lapileon house where weakness is a death sentence? No, he bundles it all behind his iron mask and resigns himself to literal nightmares for the rest of his existence.
The timeline has yet to be properly established, but I'm guessing that he comes back from war only to find that his brother has died and sister-in-law has just upped and left. Which means baby Celphi is left in his care. I’m not sure why Saoirse wasn’t the one to adopt him, but I’m guessing since he’s the next in line to the grand dukedom, it ‘makes sense’ that Grand Duke Therdeo has to be in charge of him. (Saoirse not being able to become head of the family just because she’s a woman is another sticking point that I suspect will be key to resolving this entire mess) (how/when exactly he becomes Theo’s ward is subject to many theories since the timeline of the story hasn’t been actually clearly explained; a guess that a friend and I have settled on is perhaps at the time, securing Celphi’s place as a ‘spare heir’ after Saoirse, Saoirse’s son and Theo in the line of succession would have been a practical decision. Either that or, more plausibly, Theo saw Celphi in himself and just decided to adopt the boy. Which makes this next part even more tragic)
The image of Theo in a soldier’s uniform looking helplessly into the cradle, with baby Celphi reaching up to him, broke me when I first saw it. It explains every mistake Theo made in trying to raise him.
Tumblr media
He was a soldier. What the hell would he know about raising children (even if the theory that he chose to adopt this boy is correct)? He loves this tiny child with every breath, and he’d do anything for Celphi - but most of what he knows is how to fight and die. How the fuck does that help?? Not only that, his only experience of fatherhood is the shadow of a man who abused him so severely. What is that supposed to teach a man about parenting?
Clearly not much, considering his very shocked reaction when Celphi ends up demanding what he was supposed to think when his guardian/uncle kept ignoring him all the time while he was growing up.
And the boy is correct. Theo has no answer. He fucked up (again), and he didn’t know he was fucking up so hard.
But my god, he keeps trying to make up for it. It’s awkward and uncomfortable, but Theo shows up every day to pick him up from school with Perry; he’s even glad Celphi yells at him about killing Perry because that means he’s not turning out to be Therdeo 2.0. Celphi is expressing feelings and opinions and even if they turn the boy against him, so be it - at least it’s coming out. It may be too late for Theo to learn how to express emotions but at least his ward won’t make the same mistakes.
Which is why IT HURTS SO MUCH IN EPISODE 63 TO SEE HIM SO CRESTFALLEN. After suggesting to Perry she stay away from the Lapileon house for a while, she says she will and the dialogue translates to:
“Thank you for your kind consideration.”
THERE ARE THREE - T H R E E - PANELS where his face/expression isn’t shown at all but you can ABSOLUTELY TELL HE’S 360 DEGREES OF ANGUISHED.
This woman - this beacon of hope that he’s come to have feelings for (all the subtle blushing and unseen pining looks have been sprinkled very well throughout the chapters so far) - has just had to go through the ordeal of a trial (along with months of preparation before that) where she had to send her stepmother to 35 years of hard labour, among other things, for the murder of her father. She's just had to reconcile the mother she knew with the killer sitting in the dock, and the cries of a stepsister she once loved. And all this with the knowledge that it's the Lapileons’ blood that ultimately killed her father. There’s a stray thought that poisonous blood or no, her stepmother would have found some way to kill her dad.
But it doesn’t change how it was their blood - his blood - that killed Count Zahardt. It is Lapileon blood that has tortured Perry, the woman responsible for bringing out the best in his adopted son, discovering little Islette and bringing warmth back to this frozen wasteland of a household (to paraphrase Daniel Molton who is a treat of a character, I love him so much).
Yes, he's essentially thrown his immense resources into legal recourse, released her from their obligatory contract, and offered her help in being independent and free from them. He's done many, many things to try and make her current situation comfortable.
Yet the fact remains that she basically rescued so many parts of his life, and he inadvertently destroyed hers. Nothing he does will bring her father back.
Yet she won’t curse him or his family, won’t demand any form of recompense, won’t even give him the cold shoulder, despite everything in her that says she should. Her line “leave me be so I can resent you” is so good and so sad and my HEART disintegrated.
The most ironic thing is that Theo would’ve probably understood that reaction better. The justified reaction would have been to storm and rage at him. He knows what to do with anger.
Instead, she said thank you for your kind consideration.
And he can’t say anything to that as she walks away.
HIS LIFE HAS BEEN AND IS FUCKING SAD. AND IT’S GOING TO GET WORSE.
Episode 64 is already up on Naver and Dodolea is about to do a NUMBER on his ALREADY VERY FRAGILE PSYCHE. What she calls love - and what some of us may have suspected as straightforward obsession for his attentions - is seeming more and more like a love of torturing him, and watching him squirm.
He has to sit for a portrait in the palace (emperor’s orders probably because he just wants to jerk Theo’s chain around), and cannot escape when she comes into the room to sit and watch. There’s no good reason for him to leave, so he just has to grit his teeth and bear it.
And she laughs at his discomfort. She laughs and calls it “cute”.
The rage and fear in his face when she does so is alarming from someone whose poker face is usually immaculate. It sucks so much strength/spirit from him that it alarms Daniel who greets him at the house. I have a feeling that he’s about to just shatter into pieces since Episode 66′s thumbnail has him turned away, lying on a pillow. And then I will shatter, coz this dude CANNOT catch a break.
At some point, I came to the conclusion that Theo was soft-hearted and I cannot tell you when exactly that was. It's testament to how seungu weaves in his quiet charm throughout the chapters so we can see why Perry might possibly fall for him apart from his handsome face (even if at this point, that is the FURTHEST thing from her mind). There are huge things of course like rescuing her from her kidnapping and financing her legal battles.
But the little warm things speak volumes: learning how to dance so he could accompany her to a ball, saying yes immediately when she suggests maybe he could just reply to people, telling the servants to make her special tea when he found out she also had trouble sleeping, bringing a hot water pack(?) to ease her cramps, rushing back for her auction, squeezing her hand as he helps her into the carriage because that’s all he can do after the trial. (seungu did you also watch Pride and Prejudice (2005)? Did you see the hand flex scene and immediately decide to use this? Inquiring minds must know. Also inquiring minds screamed when they first saw that scene becausE HAND TOUCHES ARE GOLD BULLION IN SLOW BURNS) And just his face (?? back of his head?? seungu never gives us any idea what he looks like when he’s in ‘oops fell in love AGAIN’ mode)
BUT SOMEHOW YOU CAN JUST TELL:
Tumblr media
They all tell the story of a broken man who has made so many mistakes, but he can be kind and attentive, and tries hard to do what’s right (even if it takes him awhile to figure out what’s right, coz again: he’s Fucked Up). He’s also a socially awkward dork who ignores people at parties coz he doesn't know how to behave as expected. And resembles a really sad puppy when he disappoints Perry.
I could speculate a lot more on what/who the fuck Dodolea actually is and how she’s related to the Lapileon’s curse, but I also know this manhwa has steered some distance away from the webnovel. So I cannot really tell if the plot lines will be similar.
I’ll probably be back after the plot progresses further so I can scream some more. I’ve been shrieking on Twitter but that site is subject to a hungry ghost’s whims and I can’t hide spoilers/rambling behind cuts there. So here it will have to be.
Tumblr media
Hang in there, your grace.

Hi!
So Cherry Magic Thailand was amazing. Which really surprised me. I still have reservations about the next jbl adaptations by Thailand, but I guess we'll see. Anyway, because of that I have been thinking about this.
Which existing series do you think could benefit from an adaptation by a different country? That could maybe give the story a different perspective or simply because they would have different resources? Thanks
Rose💜
Thank you so much for this ask, Rose, and apologies for being so slow to answer!
The first obvious answer to this is anything from the censored era of Chinese BL being picked up by a different country. We're already seeing the benefits of that in Taiwan's adaptation of DaGe in Unknown the series, which from what I've been told is not only going to allow some intense kisses (possibly, if the actors aren't trolling us, more explicit sex scenes than are actually in the original Priest novel, though I'm not going to assume we're getting anything until I see it), but also with changes like a reduction in the homophobia of characters. Recently they announced SaYe/Chasing the Light was optioned for a film version outside of mainland China, so I'm now hopeful some of the stuff that was shelved is going to get made after all, and maybe with less censorship. That being said, a whole list of just censored dramas that were based on BL novels would be boring. So instead I'm considering what shows did I like but wanted to see done again in a different way, and which country would handle the themes and style of the original in a way that would be fun to watch?
I'm thinking about Love Stage!!! Which was a Japanese manga adaptation with a version from both Japan and Thailand, and My Dead Gangster Oppa which was adapted from a Korean webtoon, and Why R U Korea adapted from the Thai show, and how the productions in the different countries would change what we get. So, I'll be basing my answer on those as well as CMT you referenced.
[Sidenote: originally I was going to say Thailand should adapt Man Who Defies the World of BL except with Series-Y tropes and then realized that's exactly what Why R U was supposed to be in the first place--it would be neat to see a Korean version of this storyline with webtoon tropes (we kind of got that with Our Dating Sim but they went with dating game tropes instead). ANYWAY that's not really an adaptation so I'm not including it below, but putting it into the universe.]
Enough waffling, let's go!

Hear me out. If we're going to see this story again, I want better reasons for needing to fake date and better chemistry once they're actually dating, and I can imagine Taiwan adding in the angst and chemistry to make this show work through to the end. Taiwan would also have no problem keeping Sarawat's obsession with Tine's pecs in the storyline (critical inclusion, imho), and we know Taiwan loves a "they met before and this is fate" plot so I think this would work well. Switching Sarawat's obsession with Scrubb to something else would be a really interesting cultural shift and would help ground the series in the adaptation country.
Korean adaptation of I Can Hear the Sunspot / Silhouette of Your Voice
Tumblr media
@absolutebl has said this before and they're right, this is the one JBL manga adaptation that I'd love to see it done again as a series with enough time to fully handle the character development that happens in the manga. NGL in my heart of hearts I'd want Japan to take another crack at it, but for this game I'll say Korea. I know Korea has a few good disability narratives (thinking of the love for Twinkling Watermelon I've heard about recently) so I think they could do a good job. Korean media also handles silence well and that's pretty critical for this one; they could also do some interesting things to illustrate the changes in the main character's hearing.
Japanese adaptation of Love Sick
Tumblr media
I am envisioning a reverse Cherry Magic scenario, in which the foreign adaptation follows the written source material better than the domestic adaptation did, and then adds their own flair. Now take this with a grain of salt because I haven't read the novel, but my understanding is that the original Thai novel is about Pun and Noh as the main characters with the music club all there but the dramatic side heterosexual storylines are not nearly as front and center, and they were added to pad out the show because folks weren't sure how a BL series would land. I know there is already a Thai remake but let's pretend that's not happening. Japan handles earnest and sweet school-aged first loves well, and can handle the goofiness required of the Noh character, and deeply understands and portrays found family core friendships well, and I bet a Japanese production would do a great job with that core storyline. We don't get a lot of larger friend groups in Japanese BL and I want to see a Japanese production handle that. The one thing that gave me hesitation about this was the importance of the busking subplot and I don't think busking is a big thing in Japan the way it is in Thailand and Korea but that could be another opportunity for making it feel more grounded in the adapting country so I'm keeping it as-is.
Thai adaptation of Boyband Love
Tumblr media
I'm going to steal the idea that I've seen @lurkingshan @bengiyo and @shortpplfedup mention before and riff of it to say that Daou and Offroad should be in a boyband BL; this is a main reason why I want a Thai remake of the Filipino series Boyband Love [which I don't actually recommend but, fun fact, had an out gay couple starring in it but they were not paired together in the show--Gus, who plays the lead Danny, has 2 kids with Louie who plays the side character Rico]. Thailand is clearly desperate to do a boyband BL so that they can make money off the concerts; Boyband Love as a story is already calibrated to be cheap to make because it's about a band getting ready to debut, and Thailand can scale it up from the original show. It's also no longer a period of COVID restrictions so crowds can be brought in. The storyline is pretty much what I would want of a Boyband BL: rivals within a band to lovers, pining amongst band members, underwater kiss, industry drama, and (spoilers for a 2020 series) the decision to essentially do BGP but keep their relationship secret. Thailand would have fun with that, I think. And they can add a little more heat, it's very important to me that something happens in the practice room pls and thank you.
Japanese adaptation of Middleman's Love
Tumblr media
Japan gets two because they can do this type of comedy so well, and I really liked the bones of the Thai version so I'd love to see it done again. Japan can also handle trauma narratives so if they wanted to do both Bed Friend and Middleman Love they would be able to handle it. Korea is really good at balancing humour and trauma, but Japan is so good at losers who don't think they deserve love, and also excellent at pining, so I'm giving this one to Japan.
Korean adaptation of Triage
Tumblr media
We're getting Korea twice because I haven't seen Korea do much in the way of genre BL yet, and while I admit this may be slightly influenced by me watching Hospital Playlist right now, Korea can handle the fast-paced ER scenes that are throughout this show, as well as the mix of drama and comedy. I'd love to see a more highly produced version of this show, and I know Korea can handle this kind of time loop shenanigans and heavenly spirits helping the protagonist along from kdramas. I liked the original a lot but I'd love to see it done again a little more tightly!
Bonus nonsense one: Taiwanese version of Calculating Love
Tumblr media
This one is literally just for me. Ok listen I know I'm the only one who likes this show, and that's fine, it doesn't actually deserve attention. And it's so small that it would never be adapted. But I loved this dorky little short about nerds flirting with calculus and I want more. Taiwan is fantastic at dorks falling in love narratives, and so many of the HIStory series were short school BL, so I think they'd do an excellent job tightening up the story in the back half which got a bit meander-y and keeping the heat that's already there.
Thank you again for the really fun ask, Rose! 💕

It’s spooky season so here are some webtoon recs
apologies in advance for the low quality images some of them are locked behind paywalls now (on the kr app the translated ones should be fine) and I was too lazy to go through all the chapters for the good panels
Ghost Teller- I’m so biased but this is one of my favorite webtoons. Summary in one line: ghosts go to therapy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Real summary: various ghosts (s1 is eastern ghosts, s2 is western ghosts) tell “human stories” (like how we talk abt ghost stories lol). the art is amazing, and all the episodes are all pretty solid. even if some stories are predictable you still feel for the characters (although personally I prefer s1 over s2)
Sweet Home- some of you might have seen it on Netflix but whether you watched it or not I highly recommend the webtoon (I have issues with the adaptation but that’s another story)
basically people suddenly start turning into monsters and the survivors of this apartment try to survive together. except the mc shows signs of becoming one of those monsters which creates unrest amongst the survivors. not going to get too into the monster part bc spoilers but the webtoon explores what people would do for survival so you get to see scummy ppl, kind ppl, all trapped together and try to survive 👍
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the art style captures the story’s spooky/horror vibe so well. I didn’t include Bastard on the list (the previous webtoon the same author and artist worked on) bc it’s more of a psychological horror/thriller than creature? horror but if it sounds interesting or you liked sweet home I highly highly recommend Bastard as well.
+) There’s also a prequel called Shotgun Boy that’s more about the creatures’ origins
Surviving Romance- despite the title there’s little to no romance although it can probably be read as sapphic if you’d like. if you read makeup remover it’s by the same author. I’ve also seen some people compare this to orv but I can’t speak for that since I haven’t finished orv… haha
one line summary: mc gets isekai’d into a romance novel except it suddenly turns into a zombie apocalypse
long summary: mc is the mc of a romance novel but on the day she’s supposed to receive a confession from the male lead, there’s a zombie outbreak. she already read the novel so she knows the story and characters, but literally everybody that’s not the love interests don’t like her bc that’s how the mc of the novel was written. she finds out that the day resets when she dies but she doesn’t really care until someone she doesn’t know the face of saves her and she decides to find that person and make sure they make it out alive
Tumblr media Tumblr media
even if you don’t like isekais (I personally don’t) it’s worth a try. it plays around the isekai premise well and the fourth wall moments were just *chef’s kiss* the impact of those moments especially when the webtoon was still ongoing was 🤌
the cast is primarily female characters, and despite the cast being on the slightly larger side, each of them are distinct from one another and the characters designs are very cute and colorful. overall it has an unique premise that it delivers pretty well on
Night of Shadows- kinda underrated tbh. mc has prophetic dreams, creatures from her dreams start appearing irl, and she’s the only one that knows how to deal with them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
mc is great. she’s strong, smart, and knows when not to give a fuck. the other three characters of the main cast are also pretty strongly established, and the plot and pacing are pretty good. this is the only one on the list that’s still ongoing (currently on hiatus after s1)

Latest Story: You Pretended Not to Care
HOO BOY! THIS STORY! (And by that, I mean the source material) I've barely written 3k words of fictional prose since 2022. Then I read through episode 20 of the webcomic adaptation of Not Your Typical Reincarnation Story (aka I Thought It Was A Common Transmigration), and I churn out a 7200-word BEAST to fill in that "fade to black" we got.
I did try to write this so even if you don't know/remember the source material you can still (hopefully) enjoy this sweet bit of smut. Hope I did right by all of you!
Oh! And btw, it wasn't until after I had this story edited did I go back and find the English translation of the original Korean webnovel. I'm pleasantly surprised at how close I was to the character's motivation and inner monologue. It was so cool to find out that I was able to pick up on the crumbs the author (and adaptor) left for me.
Also, in case it isn't clear, any italicized text between two chevrons (<>) is Killian remembering passages from Edith's diary. Also, for any who may be unfamiliar with the source material, or who might need a refresher, the reason Killian had Edith's diary in the first place was because she used it as a handwriting sample to prove papers were forged in her hand.
Finally, I tried really hard to make it evident when I switched POVs. If any part (or the whole thing 😬) feels "head-hoppy" please let me know.
OK! Enough stalling!
Summary: When Suna Choi reincarnated as Edith Rigelhof, the villainess of the novel Suna read the night before she died, she knew she had to do everything possible to avoid Edith's cruel execution at the hands of her own husband. Seemed easy enough to avoid the pitfalls that led to Edith's demise. She attempted to befriend the novel's protagonist Rhyse Sinclair. She refused to be her despicable father's spy. Most importantly, she wouldn't fall in love with her husband Killian Rudwick. His heart already belonged to Rhyse, and his arranged marriage to Edith wasn't going to change that. Despite her best efforts, Edith is still being forced down the same path as the original novel's plot. At least, that's what it seems like. But when Edith finally waves the white flag and decides to just follow the plot after all, the novel again has other plans. Edith steels herself for the next main plot point: a failed attempt to seduce her husband… except… this time it isn't going to fail…. **A more in-depth look at Episode 20 of the Webtoon adaptation that doesn't shy from the smut** Rating: Mature/Explicit (due to description of a sex scene) Word Count: 7,228 Status: completed one-shot Continue reading below, or find this story over on AO3 or on DA.
You Pretended Not to Care
Dreading what she was about to do, Edith cracked open Killian's bedroom door. She hated this. She hated it all. She hated that she had no control over this life either. She hated that her fate was locked in. She hated that she had no choice but to have the entire Rudwick family despise her. To have Killian hate her.
Worst of all, she hated how she didn't hate him in return. She wanted to. She needed to. It would make everything easier. Despite the past three months, though, she didn't hate her husband. What's worse, there were those quiet moments where he didn't seem to remember that he was supposed to hate her as well.
Those quiet moments -- those glimmers of hope that he could maybe learn to love her -- were the cruelest parts of this new life. Those breaths of fresh air where she truly believed that she might have found a home where she could relax and enjoy life. That she found a loving family. That someone could maybe fall in love with her. That she wasn't destined to have her own husband cut her down while she begged for his mercy.
She didn't want to advance the story to its next plot beat. It was too painful to be so vulnerable, and for that vulnerability to be twisted into manipulation and used against her. She had no choice though. That was now clear. Despite how much she fought to not be the Edith Rigelhof she had read about, despite showing kindness and humility and making every strategic move she could think of to avoid Edith's downfall, the story marched on exactly the same.
Edith purposefully didn't pick out dresses for herself while the dressmakers were at the estate, and she was still accused of being rudely disapproving, unappreciative, and entitled. She graciously accepted the dainty ruby necklace Rhyse picked out for her, and yet Killian's older brother Cliff still bought all of the other jewels for Rhyse in order to make a point. Just like in the novel. Edith wanted nothing to do with espionage and smuggling information to her father. She even sent him a letter stating precisely that. She was then framed and accused of espionage nonetheless. It didn't matter what she tried. The story was already written. There was no way to change it. The plot would just correct itself to keep following the path already carved by the novel.
Tonight, Edith will attempt to seduce her husband. There was no getting around it. The story would find a way to make sure of that. Even if Edith never left her room again, she'd probably still be accused of it; hated for it. She'd lose Killian no matter what she tried. She might as well lean into her fate. She could at least enjoy getting one kiss.
Edith stood beside Killian's bed. She stared at his beautiful face; his bangs fallen into his eyes. His white shirt was loose and partially unbuttoned, leaving a tantalizing view of his strong, broad chest. A chest she wanted to lie upon; to be held against. Edith knew she was doomed the second she set eyes on Killian. Not just because he was destined to literally kill her, but because – aside from his older brother's mesmerizing golden eyes – Killian was the most breathtakingly beautiful human she had ever seen.
She knew the deal. Killian was madly in love with his family's ward: Rhyse Sinclair. He'd spend his whole marriage to Edith loathing the arrangement and resenting his wife's very existence. It was impossible to win her husband's affection, especially away from the gorgeous and charming little Rhyse. There was no point in falling in love with Killian.
She couldn't resist no matter how hard she tried, however. Even before being reincarnated as Edith, Suna Choi had preferred Killian. He was the secondary love interest of the novel Stop Obsessing Over Me, Brother! She knew that his attempts were hopeless, that Rhyse and Cliff were end-game. Still, the way Killian loved Rhyse and supported her felt so much more sincere. Suna had wondered what it would be like for Killian -- or, really, any man -- to love her the way he loved Rhyse.
And then she was reincarnated as his wife in an arranged marriage. She saw him pine over Rhyse instead of her. Suna didn't fault him, though. It was that devotion towards Rhyse that Suna had fallen in love with Killian for in the first place. She didn't begrudge Rhyse for making Killian smile so brilliantly. She just wished he would smile her way now and again as well.
After tonight, there was no hope that she'd ever see Killian smile again.
Good, she thought, I can't keep pretending this marriage will ever work out. I can't keep holding onto hope. After this incident, please hate me like you're supposed to. So that I can resolve my own feelings.
Edith brushed her hair back and out of her face as she leaned down towards her husband. His soft lips were temptingly parted as he slept; beckoning. It would be the last bit of fun Edith would be able to have. She could give herself a treat. Make what she was about to do worth it.
Even with how cruel Killian had been to her, though, she couldn't do that to him. She knew that he was saving every part of himself for Rhyse. He was going to hate Edith either way, but she couldn't bear to take that away from him. She wasn't the villainess they had all decided she was.
Instead, her lips drifted to his forehead, softly brushing his bangs out of the way without use of her hands. She soaked him in best she could; inhaling his scent as her lips tenderly kissed his smooth skin, the tension of his daily scowling at her relaxed as he slept.
Her lips lingered a bit longer than they probably needed. She didn't want to pull away and give up the only loving contact she'd probably ever have with her husband. Edith needed it all over with, though. She retreated slightly, but still stayed close enough that her face would fill Killian's vision as he opened his eyes.
Now, when he wakes up, Edith thought, he'll look at me with disgust.
She wanted to avoid this next part so bad. She feared seeing what true disgust would look like carved on Killian's angelic face. She knew she'd seen close, and it pained her each time she remembered each of those cold, heartless looks. This would be a new level, though, and she struggled to not cry in anticipation.
Killian stirred oh-so-slightly. His breathing shifted. His lashes fluttered.
Here it comes. Get it over with, Killian. Prove to me that you will only ever hate me.
Edith expected a scowl upon him seeing her. Shouting. Shoving. A demand for guards to take her out of his sight. A berating for her vulgar behavior.
She did not expect Killian's right hand snatching hold of her left wrist.
Edith jumped back, tugging slightly against Killian's tight -- but still gentle -- grip.
“You pretended not to care this whole time.” There wasn't any grogginess in his sharp tone. It was as if he had been awake the whole time. Edith panicked that he had somehow known about her seduction attempt and had faked being asleep.
She wiggled to break free, but Killian tightened his grip. Edith was startled not by his strength, but by his control. His grip was firm, unrelenting, and a bit ravenous. But it didn't hurt. The tension made it seem like he wanted to hurt her, and yet his grip never once clamped down enough, as if something inside him was able to stop his muscles just before breaking that thin line.
“Are you now so overwhelmed with lust,” Killian continued, “that you can't pretend anymore?” He was sat up in bed. His head was tilted forward, knocking his bangs back into his eyes, giving him a mischievous, fox-like stare. He finally smiled at Edith, but it wasn't the warm, beaming, kind smile he would give to Rhyse. This was a lecherous smile full of cunning and the satisfaction of a successful hunt.
This wasn't how it was supposed to happen! Everything else had gone exactly how Edith had read it in the novel. No matter how she handled the situation, the end result was always the same. Edith was still accused of being vulgar and entitled after the dressmakers visited. She was still left with just the dainty necklace while Rhyse received the rest of the stock the jewelers brought to the estate. Edith was still accused of espionage, put under house-arrest, and eventually let go. It shouldn't have mattered what she did that night. Killian was still supposed to awake disgusted with her seduction attempt.
Killian's look was anything but disgusted though.
“No,” Edith choked out in fear. Her mind raced as she tried to sort out what Killian was planning on doing with her. “I just--”
“That's fine,” he interrupted. With the elegance and strength only gained from years of sword mastery, Killian yanked on Edith's left arm, pulling her towards his bed while also flipping her onto her back. In an instant, he was straddling her knees.
Edith's long, red hair billowed out behind her like a messy halo; pinned beneath her body. Her left arm equally pinned to the bed by Killian's stern grip still on her wrist. Her right arm was free, but it felt too heavy to move as Killian looked down on her with that mischievously lustful grin.
“Satisfy me, Edith. Seduce me like the Rigelhofs taught you.” Killian started undoing another button on his thin, white shirt. His eyes drilling into his stunned bride beneath him. “Who knows? I might end up attached to your body.” His voice got deep and had a voracious gravel to it.
What is he doing? This isn't right! This isn't how it was supposed to go at all!
“W-wait! Killian!” Edith willed her right arm to move, and she pried Killian's hand off of her. Without him pinning her down, Edith sat up best she could. Her eyes flashed with worry, panic, and confusion. She knew this wasn't what Killian wanted. It couldn't be. The novel version of him had no interest in Edith. He would never fall for her seduction attempts. He was too devoted to--
“Are you sure...” She took a deep breath. She didn't want to ask. She didn't want to hear his answer. She didn't want him to change his mind. She knew she had to be certain, however. “You'll be alright with me?”
Killian stopped undressing himself. The passion and thrill of the hunt flushed from his face as Edith looked up at him in full earnest.
“...and not Rhyse?” she finished.
A pain shot through Killian's chest and his stomach twisted slightly. Does she truly not care, he wondered, enough to bring up my feelings for Rhyse?
He pulled away, stepping off the bed and allowing Edith to sit the rest of the way up. Her eyes were so huge and sincere. It was hard to not recognize the surprise painted across her face. It made Killian want to both retreat from her and devour her.
Even if we were forced into a marriage of convenience... she really doesn't expect anything from me, her husband....
Her lack of expectation from him infuriated him. She was fully aware of his love for Rhyse, and she had resigned herself to a loveless marriage. Even so--
<His face is glowing and his body is so hot! I can't stop drooling, just thinking about him....> <I really think Killian is more my type than Cliff.> <I happened to see him wave at Rhyse-- I thought I might be blinded by his smile.>
Killian was giving himself to Edith, and yet she stopped him. Even when he thought he was offering her exactly what she desired she still expected nothing from him.
Killian wanted to satisfy her. He demanded that she satisfy him, but he knew he wanted it the other way around. He wanted to reward her words in her diary. He wanted her to keep watching him and desiring him. He didn't want her to give up her fight for his affection. He yearned for her to crave him.
He rested a hand beside her leg on the edge of the bed, then made it creak slightly as he leaned towards her. She leaned away, giving him space as she studied him and tried to figure out his angle.
His angle was lust.
With the blinding swiftness he used before to catch her wrist and pull her onto the bed, Killian pinched Edith's chin between his thumb and forefinger. Halting her retreat instantly, Killian leaned closer, bringing her face inches from his. He stared intensely into her large, uneasy eyes, and delighted in how his boldness caused those doe-eyes to soften and close slightly.
They were the furthest from Rhyse's eyes. Edith's large breasts -- raising and lowering in quick, short breaths -- were far from Rhyse's as well. Edith's full, supple thighs and curved hips were the opposite of Rhyse's slender frame. Her wavy, fiery red hair equally foiled the elegant fairness of Rhyse's straight golden-blonde locks.
Killian loved Rhyse. It was true. He'd do anything for her. He wanted to spend every waking moment with her. He delighted in her smile. He wanted to protect such a gentle and delicate woman. She was sunshine personified. He had wanted to give her his all.
Edith was the farthest from Rhyse that he could think of. Yet he also wanted to give her his all. In a different way. In a more primal way. He wanted to gift himself to Rhyse. He wanted to lose himself in Edith.
And yet, Edith hesitated when he offered precisely that. If this was what she wanted, why would she care if Killian would regret their night together?
“I should be asking you that question.” He whispered. Soft. Firm. Challenging. Playful. Aloof. Yearning. “Aren't you the one who was so confident in yourself that you would crawl into my bed in the middle of the night?”
She wouldn't believe him if he told her he wanted this. He wasn't even sure he could say those exact words.
Edith...
He'd get her to accept his offer. To forget Rhyse the way he did. This wasn't about her. This was about a man and his wife. This was about quelling a fire. This was about finally letting go and truly going for something he desired without hesitation.
Killian pressed his lips against Edith's.
Her eyes stayed wide; frozen in shock. Those lips weren't supposed to be hers, as much as she wanted them to be. They were Rhyse's. Killian had waited the last four years for her. He had never before felt the touch of a woman. Never tasted another's mouth. And yet he was pressed against Edith's.
It was a bit awkward. A little innocent, but still very lustful. Suna never felt this level passion before in her life. Either of them. It shot warm shivers through her core.
Killian ravenously pushed on her mouth with his own, trying to force her down. Edith retreated across the mattress, and he pursued her, crawling his way back onto his bed. His left knee wedged between her legs.
Edith's fear of the consequences and misconceptions of this night vaporized as Killian's kiss drained her brain of oxygen. This night alone didn't cause her eventual death, so why not enjoy the bliss?
With a gasp and slow exhale to steady his breath again, Killian pulled away. He towered over Edith as he remained kneeling with their legs interwoven. Before Edith could regain her own senses, Killian brusquely snatched her wrist once more.
<His face is glowing and his body is so hot!>
“After all the snooping and sneaking glances,” Killian aggressively teased, “now you can touch me all you want.” He finished unbuttoning his shirt and pressed Edith's right hand against his tight pectoral. With a shrug his undone shirt slid off his shoulders, revealing them to her as well.
Edith fiercely blushed as she remembered that Killian had read a portion of her diary when she used it to try to prove her handwriting was forged; that she wasn't the one who sent insider knowledge to her father. Her face and ears burned as she tried to mentally recount exactly what she had said about Killian; what he could have possibly read. How lustful had she been in her writings? Was he just toying with her to teach her a lesson?
“N-no,” Edith stammered in a panic, “that's not what I...” Her eyes darted from her hand on his chest up to Killian's deep, dark eyes. The puckish grin and challenging stare had both fallen; softened. Killian almost looked defeated; pleading. He couldn't have possibly wanted -- genuinely wanted -- Edith to lust after him, could he?
His chest beneath her hand was firm and silky, but it rose and fell in uneven, subtly quivering breaths.
That's right. Killian didn't know the touch of a woman before now. He wouldn't possibly go this far just to mess with me, right?
“What I mean is...” Edith relented. She pressed slightly with her finger tips, and Killian's grip loosened, more cradling her wrist than actually holding it. He gently directed her to follow the crease separating his pecs. Edith's fingers quaked against the soft ridges of his chest. Before her mind could catch up with her body, her fingers slid down to his abs. She outlined each one with her nails, memorizing the sensation as it shook through her.
Killian's muscles were all the more defined as he directed Edith to explore them. He flexed each one as her fingers wandered. He had to. It was the only way to keep himself from shivering at her touch. He wasn't expecting the tingles along his skin. He didn't anticipate how much his body would miss the delicate tickle of her fingers as they roamed to a different part of him. He wanted to collapse into her. He wanted to give her everything she desired of his body. He wanted to devour her in kind. He wanted to tear the nightgown she was wearing. Ruin his sheets. Decimate his mattress.
He had always been able to keep his desires in check before. He was able to have full control of himself. With Edith, however? With her feather-soft touch? With those fierce quips? With those saucer-large inquisitive eyes? With her quiet lusting for her husband? With that porcelain skin? He was becoming a beast and he needed to rein himself in.
“Are you happy now?” He asked her barely above a whisper. His voice strained as he struggled to contain himself. They hadn't even done anything physically strenuous, yet sweat already dotted his temples. He hoped Edith didn't hear him gulp down the sticky saliva making his mouth dry and his teeth hungry for her skin.
<I really think Killian is more my type than Cliff.>
He had never been preferred over his brother before. He was either Cliff's equal or he had fallen behind at some point. Killian knew his father would never overlook Cliff and name him heir of the dukedom instead. He also knew that it was pointless to think that he could ever win Rhyse away from Cliff. There was no world wherein Killian got what Cliff desired.
Killian didn't need to fight for Edith though. She was all his, and she preferred it that way. He wanted to make sure she would always choose him over his brother.
As he stared down at her, Edith melted at Killian's soft, flushed face. His tight voice rattled in her head; otherwise empty due to her brain traveling along with her fingers across Killian's exposed stomach. His hand giving her the guided tour. Happy? she thought, I could spend the rest of my life just touching this man's waist, stomach, arms, and chest...
Suddenly, she realized he had asked her a question that she didn't answer. Blushing harder, she focused on her hand traveling back up to his left pectoral. She was acutely aware of what she had been doing, and how humiliating it was that he had read her diary and then called her out on what she wrote via... this! She couldn't look at him. Not into those soft, pleading, lost eyes.
She tried to ignore the quivering in her voice as she answered. “Huh? Oh... I-I...”
Killian used his right hand to continue directing Edith's fingers as they skated across his chest. Meanwhile, his left hand found her ankle and started venturing its way up her leg, pushing up the skirt of her nightgown slightly as he did. His nails dug tantalizingly into the back of her calf just below her knee.
“Yes...” Edith breathed, finally answering Killian. Yes! Good Power Almighty, yes! In both this life and her previous one, she had never been more happy. She wanted this to go on endlessly.
Screw restraint. Edith's breathy “yes” was all Killian needed. That single word was filled with tension begging to be released. It broke Killian's willpower. He needed her now. His hand snaked from outside her gown to under it, feeling the silky lines of her bare legs. A fever raced through him and his groin twitched.
Like a taught fishing line, Killian's eyes darted to the nape of Edith's neck. That obscene lure that snagged him their wedding night. With an invisible yank of the line, Killian's lips crashed into her neck.
Edith gasped and twitched at the touch, which just made Killian linger there all the more. His teeth gently scraped across her collarbone and his lips brushed against her skin in phantom kisses. Each inch his mouth crawled caused her to squirm and gasp again.
This was a fun game. He wondered how many times he could make her quiver. Was it infinite? Would she eventually numb to his touch? Could he turn that gasp into a squeak or a moan?
I can't believe I find Edith Rigelhof adorable...
Her chest heaved in shaky breaths against his bare chest, and his heart raced knowing how undone he was making his fiery bride. His hand crept higher up her thigh, his forearm pushing the skirt of her nightgown up and over her knee. All of his slow, methodical, gentle touches made her shift and squirm, and it excited him all the more.
“K-Killian!” she gasped as her leg twitched against his touch.
There must be something wrong with me, Killian mentally berated himself as he shifted his weight forward, creaking the bed again.
Then it happened. Edith groaned. It was strained, like she was fighting against letting the lewd sound escape her lips. It was soft and deep and rumbled out of her chest.
Killian ripped his arms out of his sleeves and tossed his shirt to the floor. He then crashed right back into Edith, concentrating on her right collarbone this time. His hand reaching her bare hip as he rested more of his weight against her.
Edith's mind went blank. She knew she needed to keep her wits about her. She needed to strategize. She had to deduce how this act would be twisted by the story to keep the plot on track. Prepare herself. Find a way to at least lessen the blow.
Instead, her mind was filled with Killian's lips on her skin and his hand on her hip; wordlessly instructing her to strip. She was more than happy to comply.
Shifting her weight, Edith slid the back of her nightgown up to her waist so she was no longer sitting on the skirt. Lightning shot through her as her fingers entangled briefly with Killian's. She then squeaked out his name as his hand followed hers and he caressed her ass.
“What's wrong?” Killian roguishly chuckled into Edith's ear before nibbling on it. “No final words for me tonight?”
He was right. It was mortifying for her to be his putty like this. She needed to take charge. Just as she had always done with him. She had never allowed him the upper hand before. Every time he had pushed her she would push right back.
First, she needed to regain her bearings.
Edith arched her head to try to pull away from Killian's insatiable mouth. It backfired and instead left more skin for him to explore, making her squeak with surprise. Her nails scraped across the sheets, and she gathered whatever loose cloth she could into her tightening grip. Her toes curled. Her stomach flipped. She had failed. She didn't want Killian's lips to ever leave her skin. She panted his name once more as she submitted to him.
Shifting his weight to better balance himself, Killian kept his left hand exploring Edith's leg and hip. His right hand then traced its way up her spine, searching for the tie to her nightgown. Upon feeling the soft ribbon tail, he tugged. Her gown loosened. The neckline instantly drooped and slid off her right shoulder, granting Killian more real estate to traverse. As his lips and left hand continued their private expeditions, Killian's right hand traveled back down Edith's spine, making her shiver at his touch.
His middle finger caught the buttons along the ribbon at Edith's waist. It was a bit more work to slide them back through their restrictive loops than he expected. Despite normally being a very dexterous person, Killian was clumsy with his unbuttoning, and he growled his frustration about it into Edith's shoulder. Gasping, Edith grabbed the back of his head and held him against her skin. Her hips shifted in his grasp as well. Her left leg pushing against his right, spreading herself more for him.
Killian's chest tightened. His nails pressed against her hip. He slid his left leg over, shifting her leg as well. A new fragrance wafted into the room. It made his head spin and his heart race. Cradling the back of Edith's head, Killian broke from her grasp and collided with her lips.
Running on an autopilot she didn't even realize she had, Edith massaged Killian's lips with her own, demonstrating the proper way their mouths should dance. Her tongue gently tapped against his lower lip. He instantly granted her entry, and she gingerly ventured into his mouth. He greedily pushed back, nearly choking her.
She pulled back with a gag, and Killian instantly stilled. Heat billowed off of them both as they stared each other down, studying their partner for their next move. Cradling each side of his face, Edith gently pulled him down to her. She gave him a cautious, closed-mouth kiss. He allowed her to set the pace, so she tested the waters with her tongue again. His lips parted hungrily and welcomed her inside. She gently pushed against his tongue before trying to wrap her own around his. Understanding, Killian responded in kind. Softly this time. He let her take the lead as his mind instead focused on her buttons again.
Edith rested her head against the bed, and pulled Killian down with her. She left her back arched for his hands to undo her buttons. The new angle helped him, and they unfastened all the easier. Each time she felt her nightgown loosen a bit more around her waist, Edith ran her nails across Killian's back. Finally, the third button was released.
Realizing his task was done, Killian sharply inhaled Edith's scent. Pulling away from her mouth, he slowly let his breath back out with a ravenous sigh. His hands roamed her bare legs. Her hands explored his back. His heart pounded in his ears. He couldn't believe the next step he was about to take. There would be no undoing this night. He would never be able to pretend it didn't happen.
“Killian?”
Her voice was too gentle. Too breathy. Her eyes were too wide and pleading. Her hair looked too enticing sprawled out behind her on his bed. Her skin was too soft. Too warm. Too welcoming.
“Tell me what you want, Edith.”
“I--” She studied him. This was her out. She could escape before this whole thing went any further. They'd regret this in the morning. She knew that much. At least, Killian would regret it the moment his lust was satiated. She just needed to tell him no, and he'd probably let her leave.
She couldn't deny what she wanted though. The weight of his body pressed against hers was too sweet. The slight roughness of his swordsman-calloused fingers sent electricity through her. Her body was feverish and her mouth was dry and starving. She'd break if they stopped now.
“I want you, Killian,” she whispered.
That puckish smirk returned, along with a glint in his eyes.
“What do you want from me?”
“Whatever you are willing to give.”
“What if I already did that?”
Edith's face fell. Of course he was just teasing her, playing with her. Her face burned with embarrassment and desire. She curled in on herself, and nibbled her thumbnail to try to release some tension.
“Do you wish for me to leave then?”
Killian's stomach flipped as Edith looked up at him with a little pout. Watching her bite down on her fingernail made him instantly miss her mouth. He wanted to hear her pant again; moan again; to gasp out his name again. He would never sleep again if he didn't know those sounds by heart.
He leaned in so his lips were tantalizingly close to hers. “I wish for you to tell me specifically what it is that you want from me.”
Her gasping breaths tickled his lips. Edith's mind raced for the right answer. She knew this was a test of some sort. Her brain was too full of lewd thoughts though. Now wasn't the time for strategy. Before she could finish calculating, her mouth blurted out, “I want to feel you.” Her eyes darted towards his waist before blinking back to match his gaze. “All of you.”
Killian's crotch twitched. In an instant, his tongue was in Edith's mouth again, and his hand was tangled up in her hair. His free hand scrambled for the bottom hem of her nightgown, and he was startled to find her hand already pulling it up for him.
They broke away from each other, and he hurriedly peeled her gown up and over her head. He didn't look at her skin as it was exposed. Instead, his eyes followed the cloth as it slid up her body and through her long, thick hair before it dropped to the floor. When he turned back to his bride she sheepishly had her arms over her chest and her knees pressed against his leg still wedged between them.
Could Edith Rigelhof be shy about her body?
With a tenderness Killian didn't understand, he brushed his fingers against her exposed collarbone. He then played with her shoulder for a second, drawing a few circles and causing Edith to shiver at his touch. He then traced her arm down to her elbow, and then across to her wrist. His hand never ventured towards her breasts, instead concentrating on the goosebumps growing on his wife's arms.
Edith squirmed beneath him. Her breath quaked in anticipation. She fought the urge to just grab him and do whatever she needed to satisfy herself. She felt so close to the brink as it was already, it wouldn't take long.
What is he doing? she thought as Killian's feather-light touch skated across her skin. Why is he so--? It kept her a second to realize the word she was looking for was sensual.
She was still nervous about letting him fully see her. True, he had watched her in the tub their wedding night, but she was able to partially cover up, and the rose water obscured his view slightly. Killian's room was dark, but this was still different. He could destroy her at any second.
She didn't take her eyes off his face from the moment her nightgown was tossed to the floor. That fox-like mischievous hunger he first had when he caught her in his room was gone. As his hand traced her arm his eyes had a soft concentration to them. He focused on exploring every inch of her skin with genuine curiosity. His upper teeth brushed his lower lip, as if fighting against biting it. He gently pressed his knee against her bare crotch, and Edith resisted grinding against it.
Why isn't he simply taking me?
Then Edith remembered how new Killian was to all of this. As flustered as she might be, she still had some experience in her previous life. Killian didn't. When his hand reached her wrist she relented to his touch and let him pull her arm away with ease. With her free hand, she cradled his face and brushed his cheek with her thumb.
“Edith.” He whispered her name. He had no clue why. It was like a prayer. Like a confirmation that he wasn't actually asleep. She was there. She was waiting for him. She was gorgeous.
He started at the nape of her neck, then kissed down to her cleavage. He tasted the faint salt pooling along her skin. He felt her chest shiver at his touch. He focused on her soft panting. Her breasts were so velvety. He never imagined how pillowy they actually were. As his lips and tongue explored her chest Edith moaned again.
“Killian--” She sharply inhaled as he switched to the other breast. “Please.” She whimpered slightly, but held his head in place.
Hearing her plead with him awakened the animal instincts in him once more. In a flash, his pants were off and on the floor. He then grabbed behind each of her knees and angled her so he was pressed against her soft flesh. She gasped at him simply knocking on her door. Her heat engulfed him. Juices already welcomed him.
“Do it again,” he growled. It wasn't malicious. He meant to demand this of her, but his voice came out wanting.
“Hmm?”
“Plead.” He hoped she didn't hear the pleading in his own voice.
Edith's nails dug deliciously into Killian's upper arms as she weakly tugged on them. She looked up at him with her large, saucer-wide eyes, her eyebrows pinched in yearning. “Please,” she whimpered. “Keep going. Don't stop.”
Killian's crotch twitched again in response, and he thrust forward, causing Edith to cry out. His angle was off and he instantly knocked into bone.
Edith winced, but truly didn't want him to stop. She pulled his hands down to her hips. Then laced her legs around his waist, holding him in place so he couldn't retreat. She then shifted her hips and arched her back. As she readjusted around Killian he rubbed against her clit and she cooed.
“Are you okay?”
Edith blinked up at him.
Did he seriously ask me that?
She nodded. “Slow. Please?”
He complied. At an achingly slow pace, he slid out of her until just his tip remained inside. He then slid back in just as slowly, allowing Edith to shift and readjust his angle as he crept back into her. He watched every inch of her shifting body and blushing face.
“Like this?”
Edith whimpered out an affirmative as she bit her lip.
Killian gave her a couple more slow thrusts to memorize the proper angle. He felt like he was going to burst at this pace though. His whole body vibrated as he ached to build up the pressure faster.
“I can't keep going this--”
“Faster,” she interrupted. “Please.”
He gladly complied. Noting the angle he needed to be in, he shifted them both so he could thrust his hips faster. Edith cried out once more, and Killian instantly paused, nervous that he hurt her again.
“No. Please. Keep going,” she panted. “Like that. Please.”
He did as his wife asked of him, causing her to squeak and moan some more. It was becoming Killian's new favorite sound.
“Killian.”
No. Hearing her pant out his name like that. That was his new favorite sound.
He leaned in and kissed her neck and along her jaw. She shuddered at his touch and ran her fingers through his hair.
Suna had boyfriends in her past life. She had slept with them before. It wasn't terribly frequent, but she wasn't inexperienced.
Nothing felt as good as Edith felt in that moment, though. Her body was feverish. Tension was knotting in her stomach. Her mind grew foggy. Her skin tingled. Killian's body was the exact weight to counter the pressure building inside her.
Maybe it was the learned vigilance of a swordsman. Maybe it was because Killian was a virgin. Maybe it was because he was exploring and experimenting. Maybe it was because he was subtly looking to Edith for direction while pretending he was still in charge himself. But Edith had never known a man so attentive. Every changed note of her moans told him where to press. Every shift in her breath directed him where to kiss. Every mew that escaped her lips informed him of how fast he should be going. A few sharp gasps instructed Killian on where to focus while inside her.
“Killian,” she panted again. She was cresting the hill. Her whole body felt so tight. She didn't realize that sex could feel so amazing. She wanted more. She didn't want Killian to ever let her go.
His back was clammy against her greedy hands. The sweat from his chest mixed with hers. His primal grunts and growls only made her body heat up faster. His face remained buried in her neck and chest.
“Edith,” he gasped, causing her heart to skip. She didn't want to admit until that very moment that she had been wondering if he was just picturing her as Rhyse. That he was ignoring who he was actually sleeping with. That he was using her as little more than a sex doll stand-in for his true love.
“Edith, moan again for me.”
He quickened his pace again. One hand anchored him to the bed. The other wrapped around Edith's back and latched him to her. He rocked his hips, trying to remember to grind against her slightly as he thrust into her.
Edith's chest tightened as her breath became harder and harder to catch. She bit her lip and groaned against the tension. She whimpered with longing and pinched her eyes tightly closed. The pressure in her crotch increased, but the one against her stomach lessened.
“Edith.” Killian's voice shook as he struggled with his own tight chest. “Look at me.”
She did. She released a breath she forgot she was holding, and opened her eyes. He wasn't pressed against her anymore. He had pulled far enough away to look at her; watch her face again. He grunted as he quickened his pace once more, slamming hard into her. She didn't care. She needed that extra pressure as well. She winced, trying to trap a scream inside her throat.
“Don't.” He brushed her lip with his thumb. “Don't hold it in.”
He grunted and gasped as he climbed to his own climax. With an animalistic drive, he did whatever he needed to finish. He barely slid out of her, keeping the pressure of her vagina firmly wrapped around him.
Every inch of Edith felt too weak to do anything but let him use her. Still, she wanted to repay him for his efforts, so she tightened herself best she could. She instantly felt him pulse against her, and she screamed out. She didn't try to muffle herself this time.
Her constricting around him, followed by her crying out in ecstasy was the final push for him. Loudly moaning himself, he released all of that built up tension inside his wife. She responded in kind. Her back arched and she rocked onto the back of her head. Every muscle within her tightened like a rope about to snap. Her toes curled and her nails dug into his back. He felt her hips shift and her walls pulse around him; squeezing him dry. She cried out with a high pitched scream of pleasure, and her legs shook against his hips.
Both spent, Killian collapsed against Edith's chest. Her legs flopped to either side of him, and she melted under his weight. They both struggled to catch their breaths, but Edith had little problem running her hand through Killian's hair, petting him.
Killian was the first to even out this breathing. Gently, he lifted himself off of Edith and brushed his sweaty hair out of his face. Her hand rested against his chest, not ready to separate from him.
“Edith,” he whispered once more.
She couldn't respond. Her own breath was still too shaky.
Tenderly, he untangled himself from between her legs.
Here it comes. Edith looked away from him. He was satiated now. His senses would soon come back, and he would throw her out of his room; instantly regretful for his lapse in judgment.
Killian took her in. He watched her start to curl into herself again, her eyes tightly closed against him.
Is she nervous that I will want to go again before she recovers?
Killian brushed her hair out of her eyes and kissed her forehead.
Edith's eyes shot open, and she turned to face him. “Killian?”
He didn't say anything. He simply snuggled next to her and rested his head on her shoulder. He then pulled the sheets up around them.
“You should stay here tonight.”
She blushed as she nodded, then rolled onto her side. Killian's arm snaked around her waist and pulled her close to him. His body heat wrapped around her was soothing, and it wasn't long before she fell asleep in his arms.
Killian felt Edith's breathing slow as she dozed off. Her body relaxed against him. Her scent filled his nostrils, making him feel a little dizzy. He didn't hate the sensation though. Despite common sense screaming otherwise, he didn't hate anything that happened that evening.
He had been relieved to find out that Edith had woken up earlier that day, but didn't know how to approach her. He had feared that he was part of the reason she had fainted in the first place. He had assumed that she no longer wanted anything to do with him.
His heart had danced when he caught her in his room. She looked so earnest and innocent it had overwhelmed him.
Then he was inside her, and he never imagined a feeling so amazing. It took all of the willpower he had earned from years of training to not climax after that first corrected thrust. He couldn't let that opportunity go by so quickly. He focused on Edith instead of his own euphoria as best as he could to make it last.
Besides, after everything, didn't he owe Edith that much?
Killian kissed the crown of her head and pulled her in tighter.
What am I going to do with you, Edith Rudwick?
He buried his face into her plush locks, and fell into one of the deepest and most restful sleeps he remembered having.

It's been a long while since I last talked about Remarried Empress, but anyway. I don't particularly agree that Ergi should be written instead as someone who hates Sovieshu and his said hatred slowly grows into an unhealthy, twisted obsession. Judging by how Alphatart has written him, I think the writer wanted to pull a "haha villain not" contradiction for his character but they keep on backpedalling. It comes to the point that the readers didn't take the bait and thus the author didn't explore his story further.
I'd break down the details of the story that subtly tells us about his character before elaborating, so the post won't be as messy. Beware of spoilers from the novel.
1. Baby breaths
Him holding baby breath flowers definitely struck me for a long time when I was first reading the story. It's a flower with a fragile meaning yet the writer made him hold it. It's included in the novel as well, so it's definitely an important detail. Or at least supposed to be.
2. Ergi's mother
His mother is sickly and thus he always cares for her. This is when Ergi’s warm side has been introduced and completely contradicts what his character is in the last seasons.
3. Heinrey
Their friendship is nothing more than a facade. He never called Heinrey by his name, only addressing him as "Your Majesty" or whichever his title is. While it's true that he calls him by his first name, he only does it in public. Whenever he talks to Heinrey personally, he insists on calling him by his title. It was proven further in the webtoon adaptation where they removed the part of Heinrey squishing Ergi’s cheeks on Navier’s pregnancy banquet when Ergi kept on frowning, which is supposed to be an indication that they are close friends.
4. Navier
It’s not included in the webtoon, but in the chapter where Ergi helps Navier escape from her house arrest in the East, Navier specifically says that "You have questionable methods, but you're a good person." There are also a few moments of them where Ergi shows vulnerability around her, talking about how people often cast you away despite all the good things you've done to them.
5. Guilt
Right after he ran away from the Eastern Empire when the paternity test was done, he was gloomy and kept on staring at the waters from his ship. The pirates have said along the lines of “He always falls into moods like these after he gets what he wants. He’ll go back to normal after he finds something new to be interested in.” It’s meant to be a representation of his guilt or a reflection of the things he had done. But he’s gone too far deep, so he won’t turn back.
6. Alessia
Ah, yes. Alessia. The root of his problems. The one who actually ruined his life but also the person he couldn’t bear to hurt because he firmly believes that she saved him; when in reality, it was a calculative move.
With those points laid out, I feel that Alphatart wanted to write him as a bastardous, but sensitive character. A man of contradiction. A villain with a heart, if that would make sense. While his morals are nothing but gray, there is a kindness beneath him that keeps on holding him back.
He wants to have his revenge, but he doesn’t want to harm the person (Alessia) who almost sacrificed her life (she didn’t, it’s all but a ploy) to save him. So instead of going after her, he exploits Sovieshu, who is secondly the person who only happens to be related to Alessia’s endeavors. And that’s it. No unnecessary feelings or obsession. He only uses Sovieshu as an outlet for his so-called revenge which is nothing but pointless. He knows it and he hates himself for it, but he doesn’t act on it. He doesn’t want to face it either.
In the end, his character is a coward. He would willingly hurt other people to scratch his itch for revenge but never the root of his pain. He preaches about morals when he couldn’t even fix his own. His character arc would be satisfying if he took on Alessia himself and made her run away, but instead he lets somebody else (Angel) expose her fraudulent acts in public. Why would he even hurt other women who happened to be like Alessia when he can just take on her and destroy her himself? His chance of being redeemed just gets thrown off the window. He never grew as a character and that is the only part I am disappointed in.
Saying that he’s obsessed with Sovieshu is too much of a stretch. And it’s just lazy writing to justify his actions. His actions on harming Sovieshu is nothing but pure cowardice. While he had executed his “revenge”, it will never give him comfort because of the other people he had harmed. He will live with guilt throughout his life.
His character doesn’t need much altering. I already like it as it is. Not too dark but he’s complex enough. It’s well enough on its own but only with very poor execution and inconsistency.

I’m curious, what did you think of the first two episodes of jazz for two?
Hi Shawn! I’m sorry for the late reply but I wanted to take my time to write you my answer to your ask.
Here are my thoughts on the first six eps (I was able to watch the next four eps in the meantime so I thought why not share more than what you’ve asked ><).
Let’s start with the things I don’t really like to end on a nice note.
Doyoon
I’ve told you before but I think he’s the most interesting character from the webtoon and I have mixed feelings with the way he was written in the drama adaptation. I feel like Hangyeom has a pretty solid understanding of the character so I’m blaming the writing on this one.
In the webtoon, I feel like Doyoon is the kind of character you easily misunderstand at first glance. He looks like the typical guy who acts first and thinks later. Although he appears easy-going, he’s also really attentive and thoughtful so whenever he does something, he’d think of the consequences first. He catches on quickly and since he’s attentive, he notices things that most people miss. That’s why I couldn’t comprehend why the screenwriter chose to make him look for his best friend’s house for a whole afternoon. That makes no sense to me. Taeyi is his best friend. Of course he’d know his address.
Doyoon and Jooha’s romance
One of the things that bothers me most about this drama is the pacing and the way the story unfolds.
I’ve never been a fan of Jooha but I think the webtoon makes you sympathise with him a bit more than the drama.
In the webtoon, you first get Jooha’s backstory, then you get Doyoon’s pov and learn that he likes him. The fact that the drama chose to first show Jooha being all weird and cruel and then proceeded to let us hear Doyoon’s thoughts about his feelings for him made me uncomfy. It makes it look as if Doyoon is in love with a bully and it’s just messed up. Jungha is a bully but he’s also someone who’s completely lost and doesn’t know what to do with all the feelings he has stifled inside. He’s not emotionally mature and it really shows in his behaviour. Doyoon falls in love with him because he sees right through him. Because he can see the man Jooha can be and he chooses to believe in him. But the drama doesn’t make that clear and so it kinda ruins the romance between the two of them. The source material isn’t helping to be honest because their romance is quite unhealty at the beginning. The drama toned it down but, in the past, Jooha didn’t break Doyoon’s elbow or wrist, he broke his ankle! Imagine how violent this is. And then the webtoon went on showing Doyoon being all forgiving because he knows that deep down Jooha regrets it and that Jooha has things to figure out and Doyoon is aware of it so it’s all good. I’m being a bit mean here but it’s quite ridiculous to be honest. Doyoon plays basketball and practices hard so imagine having a broken ankle. What Jooha did was plain cruel.
But it’s really fun seeing Hangyeom act. Plus, his acting is quite natural. I hope he’ll get more opportunities to improve his skills!
I’m also a bit bitter because their first kiss was so rushed. It happens much later in the webtoon and the stakes are different.
Storytelling
Another thing I don’t like is how they make everything so obvious. You’re not supposed to know that Doyoon likes Jooha from episode 1. The way they made Doyoon’s gaze linger on Jooha… They really didn’t have to make it that obvious. It’s as if the director was scared we wouldn’t get the hints. So, he didn’t give us a choice and made sure we got the message. (How could we not get it?)
I wouldn’t call Taeyi and Seheon’s romance a slowburn but they do take a bit of time to understand their feelings. However, the opening scene is them looking as if they’re kissing. Again, why make things so obvious from the very start? This drama has only 8 eps so things are bound to happen fast. There was no need to spoil the romance between Taeyi and Seheon so early on. Everyone is expecting it anyway so I don’t know what the director thought it would add to start with such a scene.
Cinematography
I know it’s the same directing team as A Shoulder To Cry On but there are so many similar shots. It doesn’t feel like a directing style. It just feels lazy, as if the director has copy-pasted shots and thought no one would notice. (again)
The cinematography is okay but I keep on noticing similarities and it bothers me a bit, hence my rather harsh comment.
But I’ve watched till ep 6 so I’ve obviously enjoyed some bits!
The cast
I think the casting director did a great job choosing the four main actors. Jin Kwon is the perfect Seheon: his facial expressions fit the character so well. They’re the perfect match.
In the webtoon, Taeyi has the saddest eyes. He wears a mournful expression and although it took me a while to warm up to the artist’s style, I was touched by the way they drew Taeyi’s forlorn look. I think Ho Geun does an okay job overall. There are some moments where he perfectly pulls it off though (the scene where he looks at old videos of his brother for instance or when he looks at Seheon who has fallen asleep next to him).
Ho Geun makes me like Taeyi way more than when I re-read the webtoon (I don’t remember if I liked him on my first read) although I don’t really know why ><
I like Joo Ha’s micro-expressions and his presence matches with how I imagined Jooha would behave (his voice, his body language, etc.).
The plot
The drama changed the whole plot of the webtoon and I don’t mind it. The webtoon doesn’t have a plot per se. That’s why there are so many kissing scenes that act as fillers (imo). The plot is basically the characters’ journey and their development.
So, I liked that they added the whole ensemble project in the drama. Very dramatic (Taeyi’s entrance I mean) but it was fun to watch.
Not sure if you’re interested in these but here are some differences between the webtoon and the drama:
If I remember correctly, Seheon was never home-schooled nor was he made to study classical music. I don’t think his brother was ever mentioned either.
Doyoon doesn’t play the drums.
Seheon thought Doyoon and Taeyi were a thing, not Jungha and Taeyi. (I feel like my wording is confusing… Hope you got my point!).
The rooftop is Doyoon and Taeyi’s hiding place to smoke.
Seheon’s mom forbade him to play the piano that’s why he only practiced at school.
Joohee is much more fleshed-out in the drama than in the webtoon and I appreciate that!
The first song Seheon plays is “Autumn Leaves” which was Taejoon’s (Taeyi’s brother) favourite song. That’s why Taeyi reacts so strongly when he hears Seheon playing.
Taeyi’s uncle appears much later in the webtoon.
Joohee’s gives Taeyi’s overcooked cookies and not chocolate and it’s funny because Doyoon and Seheon end up tasting them and it tastes so bad that Seheon forces Taeyi to eat one as well.
This got way too long. I’m so sorry >< I’d love to hear your thoughts on this drama as well!

Naomi is the last of our main characters, as Olivia's girlfriend and Autumn's roommate. Naomi struggles with always playing second fiddle to her more outgoing and talented twin sister, Ruth, and in her desire to keep up with her becomes susceptible to the temptations and manipulations of the god of decay, Ozymandias, posing as her familiar.
Animus Vitrum is a bit of a beast to discuss the plot for, as each major character has a cast of side characters and subplots that quickly become out of hand outside of my primary goal of resolving their main arcs, solving the mysteries of the various conspiracies to destroy the world, and the actions they take to get there. It's also had a number of iterations as I fiddle with the world in which it's set to get it where I'm happy with it. Ideally once I'm at that point, I'll be able to start adapting it into a comic to put on Webtoon.

So I was just looking through my drive, as you do, and stumbled across a short story that I wrote my senior year of high school and??? It's actually pretty good??? Can't remember the grade I got on it tho :(
I'm also thinking about making a webtoon, but can't decide on the story (I have too many), so thoughts on me adapting this??
“New Blood”
The door burst open, the crash of it hitting the wall echoing around the large room, drowning out the uneven pounding of the teenager’s feet hitting the floor. In the center of that room stood a grand desk, dwarfing the man that sat at it. He looked up at the intrusion, away from a pile of papers and books that were haphazardly strewn out on the wood.
“Ah, Zero! I was wondering when you’d show up.” He grinned at the teenager still storming towards him, his brown eyes retaining their usual coldness.
Slamming their hands down on the desk, a few papers flying to the floor, Zero spat at the man. “Was that part of your plan? What were you thinking?!” Their eyes blazed, teeth bared at the man whose grin only grew.
“Was it not to your liking?” The man asked, already knowing the answer.
“My liking- Darius, my entire team was killed!” Zero fumed. They were still in their uniform, ripped, covered in dirt, and splattered in blood. Their gun was still in it’s holster, but their knives were missing. Most likely lost in the mission. “How could losing your best squadron to try to kill a politician, of all things, be to your liking?!”
“My dear Zero, I did not lose my best,” Darius spread his hands, eyes softening slightly. “You are standing before me, after all.”
“Only because Meave threw herself over me!” The teenager growled, crossing their muscular arms. They made quite an intimidating figure, fresh from battle, but the man was not perturbed.
“Oh, stop whining. They wouldn’t have been able to harm you anyway.” He rolled his eyes.
“Don’t tell me to shut up! Those weapons could have even killed me! It was an absolute bloodbath!” Zero yelled a wordless sound of frustration. Why was Darius being so calm about this! He killed their entire team! Why couldn’t he see his fault?!
The man’s grin turned smug. “Truly? Why don’t you tell me more about those weapons.” It wasn’t a question.
Zero gaped. “You-” They laughed without mirth. “Of course. That was your plan? You made me lead my team to slaughter to learn about their weapons?” They turned, limping towards the door still standing ajar.
Darius rose, face forming a blank mask. “Zero, where are you going.” Again, not a question.
Zero didn't even bother to look back. “The Lab. I can’t deal with you right now.” They frowned down at their uneven steps. Their right foot was still completely shattered, and while the pain could be ignored, Zero knew that healing was taking far longer than it should have.
Darius probably said something in response, but Zero wasn’t listening, instead thinking back to their horribly failed mission. It was supposed to be a typical assassination, in and out, their team keeping watch; the lazer guns forcing them to cosplay swiss cheese were unexpected, to say the least. It was a little overkill to protect some no-name politician who cared more about unfairly taxing the labor force than protecting the country from domestic terrorists. Why would they have done that? Did they know they were coming?
Zero paused outside of the Laboratory door, blinking. Was there a mole? They shook their head. No, it was useless to become paranoid right now. It was time to mourn and reevaluate their attack strategy.
The door slid open, revealing a sterile white room filled with medical equipment and sciency stuff. Zero didn’t really know the room’s full capacity was capable of, but it did make them, so it was definitely impressive. The only occupant to the room was a man, a few years older than Zero, at a station looking through a microscope. He looked up at the sound of the door opening.
“Zero! You're back! How was the mission?” He tilted his head. “And where’s the rest of your team?”
“Dead.” Zero sat down on one of the examination chairs, sighing in relief at the weight off of their foot. “Leima, I know you have questions. Interrogate me after you look at my foot? It's all messed up.”
"...Alright then," Leima shrugged. He wasn't all that close to Zero's team, only ever seeing them when they were injured. Although, he knew Zero ever since he had started working in the Lab five years ago, since Zero was practically raised from there.
Rolling himself over in his chair, Leima slid to a stop in front of the teenager. "Take off your boot, show me what I'm workin' with."
Zero complied with a grunt, scrunching their face up in pain as their boot was pulled over the worst of the injury. Leima sucked in a breath at the sight. A gruesome collage of blues, browns, and purples spread across the disfigured foot, contrasting horrifically against Zero's pale skin. Leima looked up, his blue eyes locking with Zero's own red, the worry in them tangible.
"What happened." Not a question, but unlike Darius' demands, the young man's was made with concern.
"Steel beam fell on it," they broke eye contact, instead focusing on their foot. Zero wiggled their toes, testing the pain. Ouch. "Which, normally, I can just walk off, you know? But I was hit with some lazer thing-- which healed, don't worry-- and then my foot was squished. Now I'm not healing."
"Mm, guessing that's how your team died?" Leima hummed, reaching into a drawer and pulling out a syringe filled with a light blue substance.
"Yep. Probably some sort of biological warfare weaponry." Zero leaned back in the chair, bracing themselves. That shot would hurt, the liquid inside a healing booster made specifically for them. "And can you believe that it was all Darius' plan? He knew they would die! What kind of leader does that?"
"A crappy one." Leima injected them with the syringe slowly, right in their calf muscle. Zero was right, it did hurt. "Ya know, why don't we get a new boss?"
"What, like anarchy? Walk up and take the metaphorical throne out from under him?" Zero rolled their eyes, then winced at the feeling of the booster reconstructing their foot. That was something they could never get used to.
“Why not? I’ve been thinkin’ about it for a while, ‘cause this wasn’t the first suicide mission he sent out.” He pulled out the syringe, frowning. “We’d be better off without him leadin’ us.”
"I doubt that can happen without bloodshed." Still focused on their foot, Zero wiggled their toes again, easier to do this time.
"Do it," Leima met Zero's eyes again, more intently than before. "Zero, he wants to make more of you. More weaponized this time. Blood will be spilt; just make it in our favor."
"What? That's not good." Zero frowned. They were made as a living weapon, scientifically altered at an embryonic state to regenerate almost instantaneously. Anything unnecessary, like reproductive organs and the appendix, were removed before they were ‘born.’ The drawback is that they are highly susceptible to airborne viruses and illnesses. More 'Zeros' wouldn't be ideal, nor very humane. "Wait- are you saying you want me to be the new boss?"
"Well, yeah. You're, like, my closest friend, and even though you just barely qualify as an adult, I know that you'll be great as a leader." Leima smiled. He rose, and patted Zero on the shoulder. "Alright, you’re all healed up! Go snatched that throne from Darius."
The teenager laughed at their friend’s antics, pulling their boot back on. "Okay, okay! I'll be the new leader." With a wave goodbye, Zero left the Lab, already forming a plan on how to take over; something that showed power, but nothing too flashy.
A few hours pass before Darius summons them to a meeting to debrief the mission with the higher-ups. Zero stepped into the large office, this time without a broken foot, and analyzed the situation. On the desk sat three vials in a protective case, most likely ingredients to make more ‘Zeros.’ There were four men in the room, other than Darius, none of which were fighters. Perfect.
"Zero, dear, there you are!" The lead man himself said, standing and spreading his arms in a sort of greeting. "Why don't you tell us about the mission you were on earlier in the day, hmm?"
"No." Zero raised a knife that they had grabbed before coming, and threw it. It embedded itself right in the center of Darius' forehead, knocking the man back onto his seat, killing him instantly. The other men were too stunned to speak, or to do anything other than stand and stare.
"Well then," Zero stated, no emotion on their face, wiping nonexistent dust from their sleeves. The teenager walked around the desk, shoving the corpse off of the chair and onto the ground with a thump. They’ll have to get that cleaned up. That’s why Zero never liked to kill indoors; too messy. Sitting on the leather throne, crossing their legs, eyeing the others in the room who stood there gaping at the scene having just taken place, Zero addressed them for the first time:
"It was about time this organization was led with new blood."

~~show spoilers ahead~~
I get that adaptations take liberties with the source material. and for the most part, nearly every change that was made from the webtoon appeared to be to Enhance The Drama.
but the changes to her first life? the changes to why she remembers her lives, and what will resolve it? the choice to have her lose all her memories?
that didn't enhance or add any drama. it actually lessened the amount of drama there could have been. the tension reading the chapters as they came out was palpable as her past was slowly revealed and people wondered what kind of choices she was going to have to make. and then when she had to confront herself. and then when seoha had a choice. (and I'm keeping this vague for people who want to read the webtoon.) with, of course, things ultimately working out.
I'm not saying they couldn't have made some changes to her first life and still had it work, but I don't see why the changes were made. and I particularly don't see why they had her lose her memories. it not only was a change from the source material, but it had no internal logic within the structure of the story! it's only redeeming quality was letting seoha get to confuse her, but that's it! (and if you wanted that scene so bad, you could have teased that she lost all her memories and then reveal she hadn't.) but her whole life was spent trying to get back to seoha! why would she still be working at MI at all if she didn't remember him! why would she go back to working there and not continue working at the hotel? if it's supposed to be like a reset or something, then she should be having to deal with her loser dad and brother and barely scraping by because she doesn't have her past lives to get her somewhere! if it's not a reset and it's just like the next day picked up with her doing the same old things, why is she back as an engineer? it makes no sense! that's what bothers me the most, it just doesn't make sense within the story. plus, just because she knew them in her past life doesn't mean she interacted with them as her past life! she was interacting as jieum! she made that very clear from the beginning, that she wanted seoha to like her as she was in this life! why should jieum lose memories that jieum made??? it would make sense to lose her memories of her old lives, and so lose her memories of seoha and chowon as kids, or of aygyung as a kid, but not to lose the memories from her current life!
sorry okay okay I'll stop ranting now. I just need the people to know, who haven't read the webtoon but felt confused by the ending of the show, you should feel confused because it made no sense and now please go read the webtoon so you can experience the story as it deserves.

K-DRAMA REVIEW: Hell is Other People
“Hell is Other People” is the most recent K-Drama I chose to add to my binge watch marathon list which never seems to exhaust itself. I had heard a lot about this drama and raving reviews on how good it is, but I knew that I was in for a treat because it’s Lee Dong Wook as a serial killer. What could be more fun than that? I suppose I also had confidence in the storyline because it was adapted from a Webtoon. (Disclaimer: This is a spoiler review)Lee Dong Wook, as in the role of Seo Moon Jo.I think this series is testament to how humans being social creatures doesn’t always work to our advantage. The main lead is an unsuspecting lad, Yoon Jong-Woo who has recently moved to Seoul for work and to be closer to his girlfriend. I think everyone starts out rooting for him to make it. He has the struggles of poverty rubbed in his face quite literally. He’s furious at injustices or taunts, but you can see the wheels turning in his head as he slowly buries his thoughts each they flare up.He moves into the cheapest apartment he could find, one that is called a “Goshiwon” in Korea. Goshiwons are matchbox rooms with barely enough space for a bed and table, much less space to breathe. This one, particular, is the most dark, damp and unhygienic place you could imagine called – Eden Goshiwon. A laughably ironic name for a place that would become the origin of the main lead’s spiral into madness and chaos. Hell is other people. Available on Netflix.
Eom Bok-Soon is the inconspicuous looking landlady who greets everyone with a smile, which you can tell is just like a mask plastered onto a face to hide what’s underneath. Seo Moon-Jo is Lee Dong Wook’s acting at its finest, in my opinion. Because he made my skin crawl. The Twins too, we’ll call them Twin 1 and 2 from now on, were an interesting dynamic. The Pervert provided a foundation for the story, by becoming the first person Jong-Woo hates for his porn addiction and blank stares. Everything about the place feels off to Jong-Woo, however he cannot help but stay because of his financial conditions. It’s frustrating to see Jong-Woo being gaslighted by the whole world with the words, “Come on, it can’t be that bad. If it’s driving you crazy, why don’t you move out or better yet, just ignore them…?", when we already know that his suspicions are 100% right. The residents of Eden are all in on the murder and disposal of whichever new resident moves in. You either join them, or you die. Better yet, your teeth will be pulled out one by one as you are strapped to a chair screaming for it to stop, while Moon-jo smiles and tells you it’s all gonna be over soon. The teeth are then fashioned into rings and bracelets like trophy trinkets and prized possessions.People keep disappearing in and around the Goshiwon. Jong-Woo is driven to the edge by paranoia. His room being broken into every night, seeing Moon-jo or Eom Bok-Soon follow him everywhere he goes.
The side characters deepen Jong-Woo’s resentment and anger. The older college senior who is his boss, hiring him as an intern but secretly making advances on Jong-Woo’s girlfriend. His girlfriend being unaware of the boss’s feelings but still unintentionally gaslighting Jong-Woo’s concerns and fears about the Goshiwon. The jealous male co-worker who can’t stand Jong-Woo getting attention from the female colleague he has a crush on. He constantly pokes Jong-Woo saying,“I know that behind your friendly demeanor, you are hiding something. And I’m the only one who can see it for what it is. You cannot fool me" I cannot help but feel for Jong-Woo. He is misunderstood, gaslighted and mocked by the world while he suffers from nightmares every night he sleeps in the Goshiwon in the midst of suspicious happenings and people that make his skin crawl. He has terrifying memories of his military enlistment which come back and trigger him. However as the drama progresses, we peel back the layers. Jong-Woo’s righteous and honest nature makes way to reveal his compulsive habits, repressed rage and judgemental vigilante attitude when it comes to people he doesn’t approve of. In one particular flashback, we discover that during his enlistment, he was the one who beat his subordinate half to death with a brick because the subordinate used to kill cats as a hobby. After things calmed down, he grit his teeth and whispered,“I should’ve killed him".
The irony here is astounding, with the revelation that his submissive demeanour is only a thin veneer to hide the murderous thoughts and short temper which become a wildfire the moment something spark it. The Goshiwon and its residents unwittingly did just that – Light the match. Moon-jo who knew exactly what he was doing and saying, to incite Jong-Woo and make him his “true self”. In a suspenseful edge-of-the-seat climax, Jong-woo attempts a rescue suicide mission when Moon-jo abducts his girlfriend to lure Jong-Woo back to the Goshiwon. From the very first, we see Moon-jo constantly saying “You and I are one of the same kind” and referring to Jong-Woo as “Honey", like an endearing nickname you call your partner. And the fight scenes between Moon-jo and Jong-Woo, seem like a last dance as Moon-jo smiles like he has achieved his wildest dreams…while Jong-Woo charges at him more maniacally than the serial-killer himself in the situation.
I think anyone would assume the natural thing and think that the first version of events we see is the most plausible version. Eom Bok-Soon kills the pervert for playing with “her things” who were locked in the basement, Moon-jo kills the residents and the landlady, then ensues the climactic fight scenes until his death at Jong-Woo’s hand. The police comes in when the ambitious wide-eyed patrol officer who was the only one who believed Jong-Woo, is locked in the basement with another victim and manages to call for help after Eom Bok-soon kills the pervert. At least, that is certainly what we are led to believe, even though there isn’t complete certainty about the events because Jong-Woo is the only one who can attest to everything that happened.Suffice to say, there is a huge sigh of relief when the Goshiwon and the murders or disappearances surrounding it are blown wide open by the police. Jong-Woo is protected by law because it was self-defence and he spends his time at the hospital releasing a breath he has been holding for what seems like ages. It’s exhilarating to see all of it finally coming to an end, after being on edge for 16 episodes. It’s a win for everyone except the dead bodies… until you get hit in the face with a curveball of a twist.
The patrol officer’s stricken face when she finally remembers where she had heard the jingle of the teeth-adorned bracelet that Jong-Woo is still wearing on his wrist while laying on the hospital bed, exactly mirrored mine. My jaw almost fell to the floor. She recognizes the jingle as being the same one she had heard while lying barely conscious on the basement floor, right at the same time when the pervert was supposedly killed by Eom Bok-Soon. She walks out of the hospital in a daze, grasping at mental straws. Anything that might make sense out of what she just discovered. She believed she was the only one who had opened their eyes to the happenings at the Goshiwon, the only one who wanted to help Jong-Woo, only to discover that she had been sleeping the whole time, unaware of the very person in front of her.
I looked on in shock as a new version of events started playing, one where Jong-Woo takes Moon-Jo’s offer of sparing his girlfriend if he kills everyone else at the Goshiwon. The version where it is Jong-Woo doing all the killing with the maniacal smile of someone who enjoys blood. Bashing the pervert’s head in with a wench, slitting the Twin’s and Moon-jo’s throat. Moon-jo is dead, but he doesn’t need to be alive to influence Jong-Woo anymore. Jong-Woo has started hallucinating his presence and voice, so everywhere he goes Moon-jo will always follow him.For Moon-Jo, this was probably the greatest way to die. To die at the hands of the greatest masterpiece you ever made, after making him realise his true potential and opening the door to a new way of expressing his repressed anger at the world. The freedom of saying and doing exactly what you feel. Curse, Scream or Kill – it doesn’t matter anymore as long as you are being true to your thoughts. Moon-jo’s genius was not in his unique way of artistic expression by making teeth his choice of gems to put into jewellery. but in his masterful manipulation of a person’s trust in sense of self, in the world and perception of reality. Fear is sown in the mind, and it blossoms into paranoia. Jong-Woo didn’t escape, not because he was incapacitated, but because he believed he couldn’t. Moon-jo had him convinced that, no matter how far he ran away, he would be found and dragged back to that place. That the killer’s presence would pervade and poison every moment in his life no matter how many kilometres he tried to put between him and Moon-Jo.
With what we know now about Jong-Woo’s past and present, our perception of his actions shifts 180 degrees. He is no longer the troubled main lead, much less the victim. He is now the culmination of Moon-Jo’s work, unleashed from his shell of fake niceties and repressed emotions. One is tempted to ask : Did Moon-Jo make the monster, or is that something Jong Woo did all by himself? In my opinion, this violent outburst of self-righteous judgement – “You all don’t deserve to live“- was always a long time coming. All Moon-Jo did was as previously mentioned, light the match, and wait for the wildfire to take over, inviting destruction. He became the catalyst for what would be Jong-Woo’s journey of self-discovery.An eerie feeling crept into my spine, as all the pieces fell into place. Moon-Jo was right. He and Jong-Woo are made from the same cloth. He peeled the layers hiding the madness inside, pushed aside the veneer of that innocent face and was the only one who saw Jong-Woo for who he truly was – a pressure cooker filled with murderous rage. So Moon-Jo took off the lid.We can find a parallel here with Seo Moon-Jo’s day job as a dentist, putting aside the more darker pleasures for now. He found pleasure in the job by scraping the teeth and finding the cavities inside. But with people, his pleasure was in scraping at the enamel until he found the cavities inside, just so he could slowly, imperceptibly feed them…ultimately eating the person themselves.Seo Moon-Jo’s chilling last words come to mind,“You are my greatest masterpiece. Now, You and I will be together forever…Honey.”The last scene will be etched in my mind, Jong-Woo’s face has the shadow of Moon-Jo’s smile as he repetitively types the same word on his laptop, “ Die.“

Need to rant feel free to ignore :D
Have you seen the new windara poster? I'm very excited for june now, i am SHOCKED at how well the bug aliens look. Also kokotiam's armor design looks so fun and fits so well with the overall bug theme (Gopal and fang are hilarious i cackled when i saw them)
Boi's an ant and theres probably an essay someone already wrote about the meaning behind that, yaya's a lady bug and gosh she looks pretty, ying is a bee and i love the sporty look since bees are very fast bugs so it fits very well (also thank God she finally has a helmet my girl you are basically at a war protect your head dear God) it also fits better than the previously more "mage" look which.. did not make sense to me WHY she was designated that class
Fang and Gopal are Hercules beetle and rhinoceros beetle, which looks absolutely hilarious but makes sense. Again theres probably already an essay out there about the significance of each bug that has been designated for each kokotaim member so i won't bother you on that (though the research is fascinating and i highly recommend!)
Now.. بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ...
Consumers. Kindly. SHUT UPPP
Kritics are getting WAY too comfortable, we get it its not based on the comics designs. Infact i'd argue its better since the comics are literally just them with armor. In a bug planet. They have armor. For. Humans. That LOOK human, with the exception of Fang's but do you realize how nonsensical that sounds?
Also we were already told there were going to be changes in the story and design. The creators were very open on that, you don't like the 3d animation design? Great! You have a preference, sure; fantastic happy for you, we have our opinions so kindly. Shut up :D
Look kritics are normal i am not dissing on that, i'm more on people being mad that kokotiam doesn't look as "pretty" or "cool" or whatever and all i can say is. ARMOR IS FOR PRACTICALITY NOT LOOK POINTS WHAT ARE YOU PEOPLE ONNNNNNNN
Also adapting a 2d design from a comic to a 3d design is HARD (trust me, blender i both love and hate you) thats not even counting ANIMATING it, you hate the 3d version? Well boi do i have good news for you that theres a 2d version :D its in the comics thats FREE for you to read on webtoon.
There wasn't even supposed to BE a galaxy season 2, there was no preparation for it ehich is why the comics are so different than the status quo. They took risks because there was never a plan for an animated version. So the fact we're getting anything at all for FREE mind you is a BLESSING
You can kritic sure yeah thats fine but use at least polite wording. These are people thats working on these things not your slave.
DON'T JUST SPEW NEGATIVITY AROUND LIKE ITS NOTHING. YOUR RUINING THE FUN FOR EVERYONE; THOSE WHO DIDN'T MIND THE DESIGN CHOICE, THOSE WHO JUST WANNA HAVE FUN, THOSE WHO ARE ENJOYING BBB JUST AS IS.
You have a specific design or writing that cater to you or you enjoy more? Do it yourself :D
Grab a pencil and start writing/sketching. HAVE FUN, you may not like it but not everyone is like that. There are those who like it, there are those who don't mind, there are those who understand that its not easy to create an adaptation.
Moreover the comics and show have very different audiences. Look at the difference between movie 2 and its comic, you can see that some scenes were either soften up or cut entirely because what audience it caters too more
If you want a more serious and emotionally mature view you can go read the comics (they are fantastic btw! Highly recommend movie 2 and the compilations)
Take a deep breath and think for a second. Is this kritic important? Is there an ACTUAL issue with this design choice? Will there be people who feel hurt by your words?
Anyway how was your ramadan and eid? Did you have fun :D ?
ALLAHUAKBAR ANON 🤣🤣
I can feel your emotions went turmoil in your long essay and yet still managed to end it with a smile. Of course I could not ignore yours anon😅
Have you seen the new windara poster?
Definitely~~ :3

My biggest spotlight of all for me was how they reimagine the adult characters since well to be fair it has been uhh.... six years ago we had more than a few we had since movie 2? (Sori only had Gaharum and....uuuhh the trio lobster guys that I forgot what their names were in the tv ver :/)
And yes anon. The lady bug, Maripos, General Reramos and Princess Kuputeri. That number alone is a big step up from Sori. We also need to mention the army below in the poster. I highly appreciate they risking themselves by involving more characters like in Galaxy season 1.
To my suprise, I really looove Maripos in this ver. 😘🤌
Wait there's an essay behind Kokotaim's suit? Can I see???👀👀

ANON CALM DOWN
Tumblr media
I absolutely understand your feeling, sister/brother. 😅
I think I already written an essay, twice. Either if it's your ask box or not I'm just gonna put it here
and here.
My version gonna be a bit different from yours, so bear with me anon. Every perspective from each individual is still counted as subjective, no matter how objective they are, including myself.
Ehem.
Me personally... I'm on both sides of the group. I can understand why some people are angry about the suit design because I'm gonna be honest, even tho there were two different media between the comic and the tv/movie, staying in the source material without changing anything is essential to any adaptation series.
So the way people are furious with it. I can see where are they come from.
'The Kokotiam armor suit is heavily different than the comic ver?' Valid; 'Still use the chubbier render ver from Sori when this arc starts to get darker?' Valid.
And other takes that I obviously ignore since that were just beyond logic. I kid you not, anon. When they posted it the first time, my instinct was muting all words related to Boboiboy or spending my timeline with another topic. Because your frustration was my biggest worry that came true.
But at the same time, not many franchise could do the same strategy. Sometimes, refurbishing them without losing the source material could also work WITH extra proper care and permission from many parties. Because this tactic is such a gamble to please anyone. I also highly recommend studying the story behind the redesign of Sonic Movie 2020, Pre-Launch-Post Launch, and the impact on its linked franchises.
(Well to be fair the MCU franchise starting from Spiderman 1 was also a good topic to study)
So my bet is...maybe Monsta doing the latter strategy. It is risky for sure, I can guarantee that when they published it on YouTube since og era. But I can see the reason for their decision. Designing a proper armor for their planet's theme is genius tho. Big bonus to differentiate each bug for Kokotiam's gang that has meaning to them.
(Were they attempted to make Bug's Life in Boboiboy series? Lol😅)
Critics aside, people need to know, that even tho the comic looks dope as heck, Boboiboy's first release was on the screen, not on the paper. The screen audience within SEA is waaaay higher than the comic enthusiast. Therefore comics, in this case, is a fan service. You don't need to know the details, but you might get curious to search behind the scenes further.
(That's what I do after I finished Sori btw.)
There are advantages & disadvantages of Monsta releasing the second season comic first before the animated ver. The launch of the Mechamato series and Galaxy 2nd season may or may not help Monsta during the pandemic. Monsta's mini-series about covid awareness also helped them to survive.
Yet, people treat the Boboiboy franchise now are kinda similar to how people demanded things from an animated series that adapted from the manga. Which... Uuuh a bit unhealthy to be honest.
But again as I said before, at the end of the day, criticism especially from the internet always wants what they ask, not what the creators want.
This is also the reason for my decision to not meddle my interest further on the internet. The damaged left me a scar from my previous fandom that I'm at this point I'm toooo lazy to engage more in the community.
(But that doesn't mean I don't like the franchise anymore tho. I still love it af)
Anyway how was your ramadan and eid? Did you have fun :D ?
Alhamdulillah anon! My schedule really packed pre-during-and post Ramadhan!
I went to two towns for "mudik" tradition before and after ramadhan for the first time after the pandemic! (for outdonesian or maybe outside of malaysian as well, it's like a Christmas gathering at grandparent's house... I guess(?)).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was such a wholesome trip for sure! but boy I did need some time to adjust too(It was a challenging ride if you have a place at the mountains🤢)
My ramadhan month was also busy with working as a part-time job at my family stand. It is tough to sell things that were really not on the most target wanted.
But Allhamdulillah most of them were sold! I'm soo relieved! 😆😆
And because it was a holy month, I really need to take a rest from any social media. I still use them honestly, but not as many as before.
Now I'm struggling to get my drawing and writing enthusiasm back.

Hope you also had a wonderful ramadhan too, Anon!😆👍

This story reminds me a lot of monster in the best way possible The way you thread stories and characters is very good. By any chance have you read monster or any other manga and if so do you have any recs? If not then I highly reccomend it, I think you'll really like it.
Monster happens to be my favorite manga 😳
In all honesty, that story still has a place in my heart even today, so much so that I even based some of Owen's personality from Tenma lmao. But I didn't realize it captures the same mood as well! You've got no idea how much happy I was that HM has been compared to Monster for the second time now.
Monster was the best I've seen in terms of a story combining the twists and turns along the plot with the development of the characters--I didn't even think Eva would be so interesting right at the end--and, well, I suppose I have the same goals for writing HM.
Sadly, I haven't been reading manga lately, and I feel like Monster is really just on a league of its own (or maybe I've just forgotten what I've read before) but I do have a couple of recs! Please keep in mind that I have read most of these stories at a time when I wasn't exactly quite of age yet, so there might be some here that doesn't portray its themes as well as I once thought.
Pluto - This is the author's other work, actually! It's about a robot detective who's trying to find the perpetrator behind the continuing robot and human deaths. The story's not as good as Monster's, but it's also thought-provoking, and the depths of the characters are magnificently shown through limited panels. Naoki also has this one called 20th Century Boys but I haven't checked it out yet.
Parasyte - So, this one's a psychological horror, and I remember it being one of the few that got me thinking a lot about societal norms and the concept of altruism vs selfishness. It's sad--some of the scenes really got to me--and full of contradictions, yet somehow everything about it is beautiful. I haven't checked out the anime, though, so I'm not sure how different it would be, but there are exactly three scenes in the manga that will always haunt me.
Boku Dake Ga Inai Machi - I remember being surprised at how serious the themes were for a manga that partially centered on the lives of children. It got too heavy for me at times as a teenager, mostly because some of the scenes in there hit too close to home, but everything from the mystery to the characters were all brilliant! I'd highly advise you to be wary of the content warnings, though, as it really doesn't shy away from showing those.
To Your Eternity - I actually haven't finished this one, but only because I lost someone at the time when I was reading it, but I think it handles the concept of grief and survival quite well. Cried at the beginning 10/10.
A few webtoons that may be worth reading as well:
Gepetto
Bastard
Sweet Home (I'm sorry but the live adaptation doesn't do it justice)
Dark Mortal

See You in My 19 Life - Overall Review
Tumblr media
I finally just finished watching the live action of that Webtoon that I loved to pieces. Obviously, my opinion is going to be biased since I read the original story way before it came out as a drama. However, I will try my best to put it into perspective.
Plot
Even though I have some frustrations about the way the drama unraveled differently than the comic, it is a very interesting plot. Ban Ji-eum is a young woman who remembers her past life. After dying too early in her 18th life, she vows to find back her childhood friend/love interest in her next life. She transfers to the hotel he works in and as she reconnects, she’s still very much in love with him and tries to gain his affections, while working through his trauma of seeing her past self die. It’s a beautiful story aside of the romance, because it teaches how to be forgiving towards oneself, even when it’s hard. There’s a lot of growth going on, even for a character that already lived 18th lives to become more mature.
Honestly, I think that if I didn’t read the manhwa, I would have loved the story as it is. I really enjoyed the littles slices of life from Ji-eum’s past life, it was super sweet most of the time. However, I’m very disappointed in how they changed her first life, which is the beginning of everything. I feel like they went to a more fated love route, because us romantic usually never get enough of these, but knowing the real reason she was remembering her past lives in the original story makes this adaptation very… plain. But that’s my opinion. To me, the original version was just that good, that it didn’t need any changes.
Overall, it’s hard for me to rate the plot of this drama, because of my bias. I would say it would be an 8/10 if I didn’t read the Webtoon, but since I read it, it’s more of a 7/10 for. Not excellent, but not so bad either.
Acting
As a disclaimer, I have almost to no knowledge of Korean. So my notes and remarks here are based on feelings solely, as I rely on subtitles to understand what’s going on and I don’t trust them 100%.
Can we talk about Shin Hye Sun? She was wonderful. I really liked how she portrayed Ji-eum. The character was loveable even though it was supposed to be so old. She was really a natural at jumping between each sides of her personality, going back to a moment of her past lives. I liked her quirkyness. I only enjoyed a little less her acting as Su, in her first life, but I think it’s partly because it wasn’t aligned with the original story and it was pretty intense. I think she carried this whole drama by herself and I’m really looking forward to see her again on the screen.
However, I really never could agree with the casting for Seoha. Ahn Bo Hyun is… I don’t know. Too serious. Seoha is a serious character, definitely not the most joyful one since he does have a tormented past. However, I didn’t picture him as tormented as they portrayed him in the drama. And I don’t think the actor did a bad job here, his interpretation was a little bland to me at some point, but it got a little better towards the end. It was just really hard to relate to his characters emotions and I could really feel a wall that shouldn’t have been there.
I always focus on the main leads, however I really liked Ha Yoon Kyung as Chowon, she was little less cute than what I would have imagined, but it fitted really well with the drama and the rest of the casting, so I enjoyed her presence. As for Ahn Dong Goo, they didn’t give him really any opportunity to shine. There wasn’t enough room for development for his character and thus when he could have done a brilliant job, the context made it feel all the way too rushed. Which is a shame.
If it was only for Shin Hye Sun, it would be a 10/10, however I can’t rate this any higher than a 7/10 again, because there were some casting and directing errors that didn’t bring out the best of the actors.
Aesthetic
Visually it was a very pleasant drama to watch. I especially liked the past lives scenes. The ones from her first life were great, with the tinted clothes and everything. There was a lot of symbolism with the glimpses that we could see and that was so great. They kept everything simple and I feel it’s a little harder to comment on the visuals of a somewhat modern day drama, because I’m not really into nowadays clothings, where as when it is a costume drama, there’s so much details that wow me.
However, I really liked the OST of the drama. The songs were really good, especially the kind of sad one. I need to find out what’s the title for it, because that’s the kind of music that I would put on my playlist. Anyways, it was overall very well matched to the events in the drama, so good job.
This gets an 8/10 for me!
Should you watch it?
I would say… if you haven’t read the Webtoon, it’s a very nice drama. It’s cute at moment, but it’s also serious. The plot is quite original and is a nice change of pace if you want to go for something a little unusual. The story is easy to follow, the lead actress is phenomal, it would say you can’t go wrong. If however you did read the Webtoon, just be prepared for disappointment. Because it’s just really not as good once you know everything. I was thrilled to see some scenes from the Webtoon that I really liked, however… I was disappointed in many ways by the ending. It’s a fine ending, it’s jut… not the one I hoped for and what waiting for. So yeah, if you’re looking for a quick watch that is a minimum serious, this is good, but if you need to chose between the comic and the live action, go for the comic.
The whole drama is about a 7/10 for me, if that could help into making your decision. It’s a good watch overall, just not an all time favourite. See you soon!
