1. How many works do you have on AO3?

30! only 20 are visible from my profile, though. my older fics and drabbles are quarantined to a separate account, and a few things are posted anonymously.

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

113,190 words.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

it’s mostly the locked tomb these days. i also have a few old works for the penumbra podcast, the magnus archives, and the adventure zone—and a few even older works for harry potter and percy jackson, but those are on ff.net so i can pretend they don’t exist.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

it’s familiar (but not too familiar) - fluffy griddlehark time travel fic. this was my first attempt at writing them and i could definitely do a better job now, but the prose still holds up.

alive, barely breathing - post-canon griddlehark first time fic that’s fucked-up and sad. sometimes i look at the comments when i want to feel good about my writing. :3

bring your hunger - post-canon griddlehark grief/relationship study. also a WIP. (honestly, this one might go on anon for a bit—it’s vulnerable in ways i don’t want to explain, and i’m shying away from writing the next chapter because the Fear of Being Known got to me a little.)

it’s not unusual - fluffy modern AU where team 69 go to a bar and play catan. palamedes has an oral fixation, because of course he does. this one is campal with background griddlehark getting-together, but i might write a sequel from harrow’s POV someday.

bad idea right? - modern AU chatfic inspired by this post by eskildit. it’s about camilla dealing with the paldulcie situationship™️ & enduring so much dyke drama thanks to the nature of her friend group. it received a podfic recently, which is fun!

(… i also want to write a camdulcie sequel for this one. i’ve been rotating the idea frequently.)

5. Do you respond to comments?

almost always. there are a few scattered comments i haven’t replied to yet, but i like responding! it’s an excuse to drop more lore about the fic and the writing process, IMO.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angiest ending?

the ace cam fic i haven’t finished yet, which will probably be posted on anon. (i feel like people are going to attack me for poor representation or something, but it’s inspired by my own experiences, so. can’t win them all. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

something sweet is pure, uncomplicated fluff, so i guess i’ll go with that!

8. Do you get hate on fics?

not really. i’ve blocked a few people for being rude, but i haven’t gotten hate in years.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

occasionally. i’ve only posted 4 explicit fics, but so far it’s a pretty even mix of f/f, f/m, and other.

10. Do you write crossovers?

i have a tlt/w359 fusion AU i want to pick up again! i need to untangle some threads of the metaplot, though.

(also, the first fic i published on ff.net was a harry potter/rise of the guardians crossover. yes. it was cringe. yes, it’s probably still posted on the internet if you want to find it.)

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

nope.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

yes, actually! a few of my old hp fics were translated into spanish or chinese.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

i wrote a round-robin fic with the campal server once. i also started co-writing a fic with quinn a while ago (before we both got busy with school) that i’d like to return to at some point, because the concept still makes me vibrate with glee.

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

i’m not sure that i have one, actually? i’m a multishipper to my core.

15. What's one WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

i have so many WIPs in my google docs that i’ll probably never finish.

i’d like to revisit my fic about necromancers & dysautonomia some day, but my writing style has changed so much since then. i might have to rewrite what i’ve posted.

16. What are your writing strengths?

i’m frequently complimented on my worldbuilding. i’m good at examining the implications of things that other people might not think about, so my plots are original even when i’m writing a fandom trope. (i can’t wait to post my harrow nova AU for this exact reason.)

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

sigh. pacing. i write from very close POVs, but sometimes i get too far into the character’s head, and it drags the story down. i’m trying to write sharper prose, but i’m going through an awkward growth phase as a writer—i know the structure i want, but it’s a struggle to get there concisely.

also, i over-edit instead of writing new words, which does me no favors.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

i guess it depends on context? i have a pretty good grasp on code-switching from being bilingual but not quite fluent, but the memory of that one klance fic haunts me.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

i mentioned my first published fic earlier, but the first fic i wrote was a percy jackson self-insert fic when i was twelve.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

indelible! cam and pal figure out that dulcinea isn’t who she says she is at the fifth’s anniversary party, but it doesn’t change anything. <3

Alright time for some shameless self promotion. Have you ever wished for a pjo time travel fix-it that really explored the impact of traveling back in time? That explores minor characters and gave them PoVs? With a side of realistic Luke redemption, op demigods(not just Percy), and eldritch gods?

If so my fic has all that and more! It's called Safety's an illusion(Fates's all chance). In it Percy, Annabeth, Will, Pollux, Clarisse, Nico, Connor and Travis Stoll travel back in time from two or so weeks after BOO to the beginning of TLT when Percy first arrives in Camp.

Right now there are 12/21 chapters done and I update every weekend! Usually on Fridays. Please check it out and let me know what you thought. Either in my ask box or my comment section. I do my best to reply to every comment!

👻 What is one WIP you think you may never pick back up?

hmmm!! this is tough. but there was a fic i started quite a long time ago about shenanigans with that time travel hourglass thing in which a split off rose quartz from a slightly alternate universe, one where pearl was shattered during the war, shows up at the beach house. i still really like the idea, but it doesn't feel as writeable to me at this distance as it did when i thought of it years ago.

🤔 What is the hardest part of writing fic?

for me, it's literally actually writing it, like sitting down and putting words on the page in some kind of order. i waffle and research and percolate a LOT before i actually get to the point of writing, and writing is almost always very hard!

💭 What is a headcanon you have about your own work?

this is such a funny one, i asked someone else this one and did not think about how i might answer it myself. my first thought is that i think i could make interesting pairings of my fics across fandoms, like oh this su fic and this tlt fic are friends and should hang out together

Full TLT series to date thoughts on rereading Harrow the Ninth, chapters 5-10

A probably semi-regular weekly bonus to my reread blog, since sometimes you realize things on reread that just make you need to yell in a full spoiler space.

Mercy's naked relief that Harrow isn't in any way the product of Dios Apate, Major. That she doesn't have to deal with that mess. Little does she know yet who's tagging along behind Harrow's retinas.

I still don't really understand the Sarpedon fanatics in the fandom but y'all are out there doing your thing and I respect that and love that for you.

Alecto seeing John. Just, that's it, that's the whole statement. The hard angles of her Barbie face soften for him.

Harrow's unsureness in herself, thinking that John is only saying he thinks her incapable of surviving the River… but Ianthe is still fighting Babs too.

In chapter 7, when they're in the ship in the River, John says a word Harrow doesn't understand. Did he just cuss in te reo Maori? (EDIT) User typicalstormcloak in the replies raises a good point: it's "Kumbaya". Of course it is.

Here we are at last, chapter 8 and the description of Canaan House's origins, at least as far as the remaining multi-soul construct of Teacher will or can explain in the River bubble. The House came first, then the disciples at different times across centuries. But why does John's story in Nona conflict so much with this? I need Alecto so bad.

Given that Varun caught up to Nona… I wonder if it sped up because it felt Harrow in the River, felt Alecto with her. Felt its sibling traveling close, and felt a drive, a need, to find out why she was back.

And I don't get to brag about much in this read, but I can say that I put together that Harrow had done something to her brain and forgotten Gideon and replaced her memory with Ortus as soon as chapter 9 ended. I already had a strong suspicion so much earlier, when John names Gideon and Harrow hears Ortus and starts bleeding and losing control of her body. This just cemented that suspicion in my brain. I'm not always very good at guessing what's coming next, so I'm disproportionately proud of that one and I'm sure it will never happen again in this series. LOL

Seeing Ortus, Abigail, and Magnus talk around Harrow's delusion that the River bubble is real (since I suppose it IS real in a way, she's the one shaping it so), it's just so interesting. I can see exactly why I didn't guess this reveal on the first read.

That recipe is fascinating and I didn't recall it at all until literally just reading it to summarize. The only M we know in the original crew is Mercymorn… If it's her, then it's funny that it's abbreviated to just M, not Mercy, while Nigella is in full. It calls to mind John's (and Pyrrha's!) mentions of the dead names of his crew, though that would be M-.

Wake's missive to Mercy in chapter 10 is the W I L D E S T of rides. That's it, that's the whole observation.

This bundle of joy was just supposed to be an (Parent Approved™) art commission example but while drawing her, my brain was making headcanons and a whole dang backstory-

She looks like an Penelope to me so that's the name she's getting.

Also- probably unlike my other universe, Pen's is probably closer to ours in terms of reality (ex. no fantasy) however, there's also a high chance that I'll just through her into TLT's version of America - where like fantasy exist but just not known in irl places

She's her hometown's ideal teen. She gets good grades, she's responsible but most importantly (especially to the adults XD) she's obedient. She's also the town's favorite baby/kidsitter so she's rollin' in that dough XD - but there are times where she'll offer her services w/ out change - especially when her client's not doing so well financially

Her parents met while one of them was traveling. I'm not completely sure I'll develop this yet but I kinda want them to meet at some kind of fandom con.

So far the concept is that she's the oldest and pretty much big sister of this kid group (2/3) of them she'd probably babysat at some point. She's pretty much every kid (who is willing to be watched over-) dream sitter. She's super fun and she genuinely tries to understand the kid's opinions and feelings on things.

Also she's biracial. Her mother is white Irish & her father African American.

I really wanna draw her interacting w/ her parents. I just feel that they would have such a beautiful bond- sigh I'm such a sucker for parent/child fluff.

Also another random fact is that her pose is inspired from Pokemon's anime version of Bianca - so I kinda wanna give Pen a dash of clumsiness + a tad bit of persistence

I wanted to add a bit of 'kid w/ perfect life lives w/ pressure to be perfect' stuff - but I feel like it just doesn't fit her

Also I kinda just want her story to just be some slice of life graphic novel, similar to the Babysitter Club ones.

State of the Blog 8.1.2022

It’s been a while, hasn’t it?

The good news is that after months of feeling burned out and uninspired, I finally feel like posting and writing again.

The bad(?) news is that it probably won’t be much about either Magia Record or When They Cry.

That’s right, it’s time for this blog to take another sudden and random swerve in direction! But first, consider this post a farewell and postmortem to my feelings on the aforementioned fandoms, and an update on what to look forward to from this space in the near future.

tl;dr: friendship ended with MagiReco and WTC. now The Locked Tomb is my best friend. This is your warning to follow/unfollow accordingly!

As is probably evident from my half-year+ disappearance, I’m extremely not in the mood to engage with When They Cry stuff. Last year’s new mangas taking any queer SatoRika interpretations out back and shooting them dead (ow, right in the headcanon!) was the end. And that turned out to be the final nail in what was already a well-built coffin.

After the disappointment and frustrations of Higurashi SotsuGou being capped off with my worst queerbaiting fears coming true, I just… I just couldn’t any more. I saw the rest of the fandom engaging with the new material, and I wanted no part in it. I realized that thinking about WTC was making me miserable, and I have so many better things to do than rain on other people’s parades. Seriously, if you’re still enjoying the fandom, more power to you! But I don’t see myself coming back for a long, long time. If ever.

Without love, it cannot be seen. And I no longer have that love, so there is no point in my looking.

My only regret is not finishing my fic, Cat Got Her Tongue. I was quite close to finishing Chapter 7, and I might still try to do that one day. I also still have the very extensive plot outline, which I might polish up and post here at some point, just for the sake of closure.

But as much as it sucks to say it: consider CGHT officially abandoned.

I’m also not particularly enthused to post about MagiReco either, sorry. I eventually did watch the last four episodes of the anime, and I’ve put up my thoughts on them in this post. But while the anime sure was Something, that something wasn’t enough to grab me back. I’ve even stopped playing the game itself. My feelings on MagiReco aren’t quite as bitter as Higurashi, but, well, I’d already been disappointed in it for a very long while. Now I’ve finally run out of patience and impossible hopes.

So what will this tumblr be moving forward?

Well... few months ago, my procrastination and avoidance of anything WTC or MagiReco-related morphed into aimless wandering through an assortment of many different things - cosplaying Rozen Maiden in FFXIV, playing lots of Touhou-inspired D&D, and catching up on a few books with Actual Queer Characters that I’d had recommended to me - wondering if perhaps something might stand out and plant the seeds of a new obsession.

As it turned out, The Locked Tomb series struck just the right nerve! The whole “lesbian necromancers in space” tagline already had my Attention, but somehow no one had told me they were also mystery/psychological thriller novels! Like hi, hello, yes, that is precisely my jam.

I hope you all like the disaster lesbians as much as I do, because I will not be shutting up about them any time soon.

So yeah, to reiterate: this blog will be shifting gears again, and if you’re only here for WTC and/or MagiReco analysis, this is your warning to unfollow.

Now, the existing TLT books technically came out two years ago, but as everyone knows, time is an illusion during the pandemic and therefore doesn’t count. As such, I’ve decided to dig through the entire Locked Tomb tags on both AO3 and tumblr in chronological order, a thing that is both reasonable to want and possible to achieve.

In fact, I was initially planning to finish all of that before posting any of my own analysis or fics (because I do so hate the feeling of failing to do my fandom homework), but at my current progress rate, it will be months and months before I’m fully caught up. And Nona the Ninth is coming out in September, oh my!

So, for the time being, I’ll still be fairly quiet while in the process of devouring and incorporating a new fandom into my brain, and I probably won’t have much to say about all the Nona spoilers and hype while they’re relevant. 

But I won’t be completely on hiatus either. I’ll be putting up giant reblog queues occasionally, and maybe sprinkling in some of my own posts that I feel most confident about. I apologize in advance if they’re things that have been discussed before! As far my adventures in time travel are concerned, I’m living in December 2020 right now~

What’s a fic idea you’ve had that you will never write?

I think most "ideas I'll never write" fics are long, time-consuming concepts for fandoms I was only briefly into. Exhibit A: the The Vampire Diaries "Caroline travels back in time to the Byzantine Empire" concept. It was A BANGER. Alas.

If you could see one of your fics adapted into a visual medium, such as comic or film, which fan fic would you pick?

Comic for sure! I think it'd be super fun to see some of my TLT fics in comic format. I'm very fond of After me, the flood (post HtN, Augustine haunts Ianthe) because I think there's some COOL imagery there with the horror vibes. Also, Nothing Like The Sun, my niche rarepair Captive Prince fic (Jord/Laurent) (I know. But it works!)

What’s something you’ve learned about while doing research for a fic?

ENDLESS factoids. Mostly niche. Mostly have no real-world applications. However. Since I got into Ted Lasso I went from, like, average "I exist in a world in which most people hold football-themed conversations as small talk" level of knowledge to, like, "ITS OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!" level of knowledge about the most ridiculously minute factoids. I could destroy a Dude Sports Fan at trivia any day of the week. If that didn't mean actually having to engage with them

Are there any other au’s that you thought of but never drew/published, but maybe would like to someday? Or do you fear they wouldn’t get as much attention as izuku wears a veil for fun? What about other ships and/or fandoms? Do you often feel inspired to draw/publish something from different fandoms but choose not to, due to fearing it won’t get enough attention?

there is the bnha tlt [musical; i am so not ready to delve into the actual series] au that never went past development stage

theres the katsuyami aus (all of them, from protoverse to fantasy au), kacchako trolls au, and kacchako hadestown au that didnt get any reception whatsoever so i scrapped them even tho i love them a lot

i was also beginning to love the bog boy krbk au because it was a fun premise that had 2 things i loved: krbk and platonic bkdk; reception was pretty okay but there was a major conflict over the fact that izk was bkgs travelling companion and co-lyricist bc idk i guess kiri had to fill all roles next to bkg. still love krbk- the fandom just gave me a hard time. maybe ill come back to this au but for now its in the rejects

i want to make more shindeku and tokodeku content since its literally been a year since i last made any but im too busy and i know they wont get any feedback so theyre on the backburner

The mia6363 Starter Pack!

Hey guys!

I’ve gotten a few new followers, mostly because of the follow up I wrote for @reapersun’s amazing, dark, and adorable comic! So to the new faces, hello! I’m Mia and I bounce around fandoms, though I’ve really found a nice home in Teen Wolf. 

For the new faces I thought I’d do a little self-rec post/starter pack of works that I really like/are a good intro into my style and the tropes I shamelessly revist.

Goodbye to a World: 

This is the first Teen Wolf fic I ever wrote. Is it my favorite? Absolutely not. Like with any first venturing into the fandoms, I have a hard time looking at it again because I’m going to constantly pick it apart and wish I’d done things better. It’s very popular, which is very flattering and I’m glad it just didn’t die out in the wind when I posted it, but yeah. I’m always someone who wants to improve.

I wrote it for @cywscross and it was a time travel prompt. Some ideas within the prompt were that Stiles was magic and… well, if you know me, you know I celebrate humans going toe-to-toe with supernatural beings and supernatural problems. Stiles has magic in this fic for about two minutes before he’s rendered a human being, in a time that isn’t his, with a Pack he doesn't know. It’s angst-city with a happy ending, but yeah. I got into his fandom because I was tired of humans being shunted. And time travel fics where it all just works out right away isn’t my cup of tea either, so this was a fun way to explore how it takes a lot of hard work and sacrifice just to make something work.

Sing Among the Stars series: 

After getting my feet wet with Goodbye to a World, and getting more confidence in writing for the fandom, this is what came next. So far there are two installments, and I will get around to writing a final third.

This is really me just being pretty blatant about human beings being worthy of standing up with other beings. This is an AU where I took some Star Trek and Mass Effect and blended them all together. It was a challenge and a huge risk, but it really paid off and I am still proud of this series. This is a science fiction/space fantasy where it’s Stiles, a legendary Commander of a military ship in an alien galaxy, just wanting to get home to Earth, the planet no one has ever heard of.

There was also that tumblr post going around about humans being space orcs, and that definitely had an influence. If you’re up for some found family and space adventures, I’d consider checking this out.

The Kindness of Strangers: 

Ahh KOS. I’ll always have a soft spot for this fic. It was my first multi-chap for Teen Wolf and it was hitting yet another point I LOVE to make: Sheriff Stilinski is not a good father. When I first started getting into Teen Wolf and going through fics and gif-sets, the fics told me that the Sheriff was such a sweetheart, but the gifs told me another story. One in particular, when he says, out loud in front of his son, that he wished Scott was his son and it was supposed to be funny… yeah. He just lost me at that point.

Does this still have humans being on an equal playing field as supernatural creatures? Of course it does.

I work mostly in AUs because I like the added challenge of maintaining character despite throwing them into a totally different setting. This is where Stiles is a fantastic liar who finds himself working for a strange agency: The Kindness of Strangers. He’s the first human that can maintain his heartbeat and body chemistry even when telling outrageous lies, and it spirals out of control from there. Grey morality, slow burn, suspense, and that slow and brutal spiral that happens when, inevitably, your lies catch up to you.

This is totally a cathartic work and yeah. It’s also totally self-serving just short of being mastabatory but I had a really fun time writing it and I’m glad it resonated with some other folks.

If you’re into a big heaping layer of angst with a mostly happy with a sprinkling of hopeful ending… check this out.

The Last Trolley Stop: 

If you read the blurb about KOS and were like “whoa, Mia, I don’t need that kind of stress in my life,” I totally understand and that’s how TLTS came about.

The way I love to describe this (and how others have as well) is that this fic is a cup of rich soup on a long, cold day. It’s a hot bath with soft music on in the other room, it’s reading your favorite book on a rainy day, it’s just a soft bed to fall into when you just need to feel good.

This is an AU about a children’s show, which ran for 3 seasons and made a huge impact, not just on the viewers, but on those who worked on it. I live out in Los Angeles and work closely with the industry so it’s a little bit of wishful thinking on my part, an optimistic dream that there are teams like this out there. It’s also a multi-chap with two different slow burns, one emotionally slow, the other physically slow, so you can get a taste of both!

I also had wonderful art commissioned by it from @trashyscarface whose style just spoke volumes to the story.

Also, it’s when I really just hit my stride with Bobby Finstock/Kira Yukimura. The weird rare pairing that I created the tag for because of a few pictures on Instagram. I took that plunge and haven’t looked back.

It’s ten chapters of character development. Nothing shocking happens, there aren’t flare up fights, no one is unfaithful, and a chapter doesn’t end on an unresolved argument. This is just… a group of people who came together to work on a show, and ended up finding friendships of a lifetime because of it.

TLTS is my little darling. It’s also half a tourist brochure for Los Angeles, so if you’re ever out West and need restaurant suggestions, this is the place to find them.

And that wraps up my little starter kit. I’ve written more but the stories seem to gravitate around certain themes that you’ll find in these pieces. I like to get dark, but I also love heartfelt fluff. This is little samplings and if you like any of these, consider checking out others that I’ve done, usually one-shots that are wrapped up with a bow by the end. Sometimes it’s an ambiguous bow, but a bow nonetheless.

Full TLT series to date thoughts on rereading Nona the Ninth, chapters 6-John 15:23

A probably semi-regular weekly bonus to my reread blog, since sometimes you realize things on reread that just make you need to yell in a full spoiler space.

"We lost something very important." Gideon's body, however that happened. (I neeeeeed the answersssss.) (Sorry screen reader users but the dramatic effect is required somehow here.)

“If I remember who I am, can’t I help to find them?” Oh, shatter my heart to dust, Tamsyn Muir. So many little, innocent lines stand out all the more on reread throughout this series.

Note to self, see if the red eyes or the hunger in Nona's night-one dream compare to anything later in the book. I could keyword search but I think it's more fun to let this second journey be its own adventure. Or if someone knows offhand or gets curious enough to look it up, you can reply to this post about it. I'm just waiting and relying on my memory of my first speed-read instead of peeking ahead.

John 15:23 seems as good a time as any to say I am a believer that the John River-dreams happen because of Harrow's soul being linked to Alecto's, and Nona needs to be asleep for Harrow to be able to travel it across to hear the story for us. I have seen a lot of theories and I respect them all. I love this damn fandom so much. But this is where I land right now, until something convinces me otherwise.

There is so much in 15:25 to talk about, though I hardly feel qualified to analyze it all through full-spoilers.

"So, my two kids, the guinea pigs, they were U— and T— on their certificates, you know, their old names. I thought about using those but it didn’t seem appropriate. They weren’t around to say yes or no. I was starting to really care about that. What they would’ve thought, what they would’ve wanted." I am just screaming, crying, rolling on the floor with emotion. I don't know what to believe. I think he DOES care, just… not the way he SHOULD care, maybe? It's so complicated. I just love John. I'll be so upset if he's a one-note villain in the finale the way so many people expect.

But also, the implication on the whole rest of the series so far, and on this whole book. That moment when Pyrrha says G- not G1deon. My obsession grows a tiny bit every day and will continue to do so until I get an answer as to what's going on here and why he did it.
