I cannot believe that the same man I protested alongside for BLM during the summer of 2020 got elected to be a state representative.... just for other lawmakers to put in a formal request for him and 2 others to be removed this year. Why do they want him removed, you ask? BECAUSE HE PROTESTED WITH 10,000+ STUDENTS YESTERDAY FOR BETTER GUN LEGISLATION, THEIR RIGHT TO FEEL SAFE IN SCHOOL, AND MORE!!
Representative Justin Jones, also known as Brother Jones to many of us here in TN, does not deserve this. He's a fantastic organizer and now state legislator who has repeatedly put his body, mental health, and life on the line for countless people. And the other two Reps., Gloria Johnson and Justin Pearson, don't deserve it either. Especially not for joining people they're meant to represent in a fight for their safety and rights.
If you wanna help them, please call Speaker Cameron Sexton's office at +1-615-741-2343 and leave a voicemail demanding they not unlawfully remove Reps. Jones, Johnson, and Pearson from their rightfully-elected positions. You can leave a name, real or not, and number if you want, but you don't have to. You can also email Speaker Sexton at [email protected].
PLEASE REBLOG THIS IF YOU SEE IT, AND PLEASE HELP IF YOU'RE WILLING AND ABLE TO!

god sorry for bringing this up again but its such a batshit time to be in tennessee. our state gov is so, incredibly, embarrassingly terrible right now and there's a lot of talk about how bad this will make our state look. i hope it does. i hope people talk about how poor a job the tn state gov is doing and ridicule it and i hope it shocks some sense into them. i hope Rep. Justin Jones and Rep. Justin Pearson get all the support they deserve. I hope Rep. Gloria Johnson continues her duty to use her privilege and amplify their voices first. I hope nashville receives some comfort that someone is standing up for them after they lost kids to gun violence. i hope this is a catalyst for some devastatingly necessary change.

With 19 candidates on the Memphis mayoral ballot, this is a nightmare.
Van Turner is a bigger name who's helped with taking down the confederate statues and works with the NAACP.
But Brandy is the furthest left leaning candidate.
They are the only two I'm considering voting for atm.
Vote October 5th

Dammit. There was a school shooting in nashville this morning. The shooter was a trans woman. I just know that the talking points tomorrow are not going to be gun control or mental health services. This is TN. This will be touted as another example of trans people being out to get our kids.

Watching Joe hills live streams is like a weird serialist horror stream.
There's no music, you can vaguely see his eyes over whatever he's building and everyone pretends there is nothing unsettling at all going on.

Please continue to share all you can about this! I think some bigger news outlets are finally covering it, but not nearly as much as they should. Us Tennesseans are trying to do all we can to fight this, among other things, but the more voices on this, the better.
Use this email prompt, and send them to the listed TN Reps if you have a quick second! The voting for this is supposed to take place tomorrow on April 6th around 9 AM Nashville time, I believe.

Hi idk if I’m back from hiatus yet but Vic worked me up on discord so friendly reminder that feminism is not about a woman’s choice but is a radical political movement fighting for the equal rights of half the world’s population. There is no widespread systemic effort to stop women from being feminine or relying on a man or having children, it’s literally the exact fucking opposite of that. Those have ALWAYS been the default for women and you’re fucking blind if u think that has changed at all in modern media depictions.
I’m tired of coddling women who believe the “choice” to do any of those things can be made in a vacuum. There is no such thing as choice when we live in a patriarchal society. Everything we do or enjoy is impacted by the societal pressures placed on us from the moment we are born. That doesn’t mean joy can’t be found in such things, or that even if it were a truly equal world some women wouldn’t make those choices, but we AREN’T in a world without those expectations. We simply aren’t.
It will never be a feminist choice to adhere to societal expectations. If you truly “enjoyed” those things as you claim you do, why are you so defensive? It’s impossible for every decision one makes to be a step in the march for societal change. Just fucking accept that having kids or wearing makeup will not be one.

Why aren’t the other democratic candidates on my primary ballot??
(For the record this a screenshot of a SAMPLE ballot that is available to see on the GoVoteTN app, not an actual pic of a ballot). But seriously I know for a fact that there are 2 other democratic candidates who are still in the presidential race as of today. Why is ONLY Joe Biden on these online sample ballots for the democratic primary in my state???
The 2 other candidates are named Dean Phillips and Marianne Williamson, and I’m sure they are far from perfect but are at least younger than Joe Biden and probably much better and they deserve attention!!! These primaries are Bullshit!
My state primary is on March 5th and it looks like I might have to write in Marianne Williamson or something? I hope this gets fixed. Do people in other states have accurate sample ballots???

‼️‼️ UPDATE ON THE SITUATION GOING ON IN TENNESSEE ‼️‼️
They have successfully expelled Representative Justin Jones (AKA Brother Jones) of the Tennessee Three from his seat in the TN House of Representatives with a 72-25 majority vote. It was not a fair process. This entire situation isn't fair and was never meant to be.
A motion to adjourn until Monday was made by another Rep. who supports the Tennessee Three immediately after the expulsion vote. That was shot down with another majority vote. They have now moved on to the expulsion of Rep. Gloria Johnson.
The TN House GOP is truly about to fuck around and find out. This will not end well for them.
The people are sick of the excuses.
The people are tired of their children and members of their community dying.
The people are fed up with Tennessee legislators ignoring their pleas and doing nothing to help them.
As Brother Jones stated during his testimony, the people are sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Friendly reminder to all my friends and enemies with asthma:
I grew up the South and was gifted the ✨Bootstraps Mentality✨ for Christmas so I'll have you know that there is NO and I mean NO shame in using your inhaler. I was diagnosed less than a year ago and I struggle with "asking for help" even from a prescribed medical device. I almost collapsed today (I'm all good now) partly because I didn't use my inhaler and take a breather.
USE YOUR DAMN INHALER

A Tennessee Republican’s verified Instagram account repeatedly commented on racy photos posted by a young gay musician.
Over several months, Lt. Gov. Randy McNally – who has supported several anti-LGBTQ+ bills – posted heart and flame emojis as well as compliments in the comments of the 20-year-old man’s very revealing photos. The young man, who identifies himself on Instagram as Franklyn, routinely posts photos of himself in little more than underwear.
“Finn, you can turn a rainy day into rainbows and sunshine!” McNally’s account commented on an image of Franklyn’s backside in January, apparently using a nickname.
TN Holler reports that an anonymous Twitter user alerted the site to the comments. Franklyn, who grew up in Knoxville, TN, told the site that he and McNally have been friends on Facebook for years, and from there McNally found his Instagram account. He says the Lt. Governor has also messaged him directly on social media, though they have never met in person.
“My body is art, I like to use it the way god intended,” Franklyn said of his photos.
“I just thought he was older and out of touch. I’ve always taken it as a compliment,” he said of McNally’s comments. “I don’t dislike him or think he’s a bad person, he’s one of the only people who has consistently uplifted me and made me feel good.”
“I’m not a stranger to compliments, so I don’t really read into them because I just think that’s wrong to assume somebody’s hitting on you just because they’re nice to you,” Franklyn told ABC affiliate WKRN. “He did not say he wanted to date me or have sex or anything like that.”
WKRN also reports that McNally’s account “liked” a photo of a transgender woman.
McNally’s office has not denied that he liked and commented on any of the photos.
“Trying to imply something sinister or inappropriate about a great-grandfather’s use of social media says more about the mind of the left-wing operative making the implications than it does about Randy McNally,” they said in a statement.
“As anyone in Tennessee politics knows, Lt. Governor McNally is a prolific social media commenter. He takes great pains to view every post he can and frequently posts encouraging things to many of his followers. Does he always use the proper emoji at the proper time. Maybe not. But he enjoys interacting with constituents and Tennesseans of all religions, backgrounds and orientations on social media. He has no intention of stopping.”
Under the leadership of Gov. Bill Lee (R), Tennessee recently passed legislation intended to ban drag performances in public spaces and to ban gender-affirming healthcare for transgender youth. Numerous other anti-LGBTQ+ bills are currently moving through the state legislature.
Lee himself has been criticized recently for his support of the anti-drag law after a photo from his 1977 high school yearbook surfaced appearing to show the Governor in drag.
When asked about McNally’s support for Tennessee’s anti-LGBGQ+ laws, Franklyn told WKRN, “I just hope that he knows I love him and LGBTQ+ loves him and would love him even more if he would open his heart and treat everyone else the way he wants to be treated because the way I want to be treated is to be accepted and be able to be myself and not be taken to police.”

i have a feeling the circle of people i interact with here already know and agree with this, but i’m just so tired of thoughts and prayers. i live relatively close the the school shooting in nashville that killed 6 people a few days ago, and the majority of the state’s reaction has been prayer services. these aren’t bad, they’re reverent and very healing to many people. but they cannot be our only response. I have been actively protesting for more gun control since middle school and we continue to regress as the shootings continue. politicians speak at these vigils and say that of course we need to do something, but we shouldn’t talk about that now, and instead just pray. we cannot put this off. people will keep dying, children will keep dying. i am so, so tired of this.

Just doing a last minute reminder to fellow usamericans to file your taxes before April 17th 2024, with a high recommendation you use the IRS free filing or one of the affiliate programs they have if you make less than 79k a year (because the more people use it the better, fuck Inuit TurboTax & H&R Block)
You will need to make an ID.me account which isn't really any more difficult than making any other login (you will need your SSN tho), but the filing itself was so simple it took me no time at all and was way faster than using TurboTax because the IRS site doesn't waste a bunch of time doing needless animations to "show your progress" while filing
I filed my taxes a week ago and I've already gotten both my federal and state returns direct deposited. I've never gotten my returns so quickly, it has never been so easy to file, and if people continue to use this service from the IRS it'll only get better.
Also important things to remember with tax season! The IRS will never call you with an automated response about your taxes, those are scam calls just ignore them, and if you do make a mistake while filing don't worry too much because the IRS will just quietly fix your return and either mail you the check/bill or direct deposit it. Happy filing! You got this!

I just realized that, among my favorite bands, I can now name at least two artists who (badly. badlybadlybadlySOVERYVERYBADLY) faked a Southern accent in their songs at least twice, and one artist who denied, drawling, 'I don't think I have a Southern accent, no. I don't get why people think I do.'
