Of Course

Buck liked movie nights with Tommy.

He really did.

He liked visiting Tommy's house. He liked curling up on Tommy's couch. He liked that there was only enough room on there if they were practically on top of each other, which meant he got to lay on top of Tommy a lot like a weighted blanket.

And he liked Tommy's taste in movies.

It was adorable. It was. Tommy wasn't going to fight anyone on thatt, he knew he liked the most saccharine of shlock.

Buck kind of loved it too.

It was fun to lose himself in romantic comedies. Buck was more than happy for Tommy to rub Buck's back or play with Buck's hair absentmindedly as he talked about each film; gushed about them - praised themes, shots, plots. Gave entire TEDTalks about the importance of motifs and the symbolism in some of the films.

Or just.

Sometimes.

Talked about the love of it all.

And Tommy listened to Buck all the time. Buck would word vomit the history of the prey mantis and Tommy would be happy to listen; to ask questions; to understand and take in what made Buck excited.

And.

And Buck found himself enraptured by this. And this wasn't the only thing Tommy found himself talking too much about. There were monster trucks and mixed martial arts fights and flying and craft beers too.

But this might be Buck's favorite subject of Tommy's.

And Buck could hear it now. The romantic as you wish in every of course Tommy ever said; always sincere and always kind and always too soft for Buck to handle.

Buck took Tommy's face in his hands.

Tbh I enjoy writing Ellie SO MUCH

I’ve grown to actually love my characterization of her, she is one of two characters I feel confident to write (the other being Tommy for some reason)

her and Peach’s relationship is very special to me, it has been from the first chapter. Peach formed a bond with Ellie before she even met Joel and idk I’m such a sap for their relationship, it’s a balance of them being friends but also hints of a mother/daughter relationship here and there too

it’s been hard to push through with this series bc I keep letting my mind tell me it’s not good enough and it doesn’t compare to what’s popular, etc but waaaaay deep down inside I know that’s not true, it’s my little story and I love it and that makes it good enough and worth telling to the end ❤️

4. What’s your favorite c!Dream scene?

Probably the Spirit speech, aka c!Dream deciding once and for all that to protect himself and the people he cared about, he'd have to finally start playing the part of the heartless villain everyone thought he was. :(

In general or specifically? Because with the benefit of hindsight, it should would be nice to have definitive answers about the specifics of c!Staged's plan, because there is no way they were being 100% truthful to c!Clingy in Tommy's lore finale, ain't no way no how, WHAT WERE THEY ACTUALLY DOING.

I guess if I had to pick just one thing, though, it would be getting closure for c!Rivals. To know if c!Techno was really in on the Plan or not, if the breakup was staged (I still believe!!), and just… idk, to have a moment where we can see definitively once and for all that they were friends and they never stopped being friends would mean a lot to me. ;;

DreamSMP lore spoilers and discussion! This will be talking about c!Tommy and c!Dream, specifically their final moments in the prison in the finale stream. This will talk about child abuse, so pls be warned, keep urself safe <3 and it is c!Dream critical.

Ok I’m not very happy w the way that c!Tommy’s lore ended up panning out. (Not getting into that apology bc i wanna see if cc!Tommy is gonna say anything on that first. I personally am thinking that c!Tommy saying “I’m sorry” was intended in a diff way than it came across.)

I think that there were some very good elements in this lore (hopefully if I get some time soon I’ll be making some art based on those good elements) but the one I wanna talk abt rn is c!Tommy’s limbo sequence.

I’m gonna say, I really liked c!Dream being humanised there. I am genuinely really happy he was turned into something other than just a villain in c!Tommy’s eyes, even if the execution was a little clunky. I can’t help but feel let down though by the extreme nothing they do with this character revelation (obviously they didn’t have much time left after that but still! There could’ve been some confrontation!). I think that c!Dream should be humanised, not because he deserves redemption or deserves c!Tommy to empathise with or forgive him, but rather because I think it makes him so much worse.

Because c!Dream should not be mythologised into a Villain With A Capital Vee. He is just a man. He is just a human being. He’s a human being with a lot of cruelty and a magic book. And I think that in this context seeing that c!Dream was once happy and kind and good is important bc it shows that he was not made that way, he was not ‘forced’ to be a villain.

(Yes, there was a war and yes, c!Tommy burned down a house that one time but c!Dream’s response was wildly disproportionate to those actions, and thus I do not think he was forced into abusing c!Tommy in exile bc he clearly and obviously chose to do that of his own volition.)

He very actively and deliberately chose to hurt those around him bc he WANTED to. And he didn’t have a tragic story that pushed him over the edge! He was happy at the beginning of the server and then he became cruel. There is no plot twist backstory that paints him into shades of grey or justifies what he did. He was a man who was happy and lived a good life and made the active decision to be cruel anyway.

And for that, I think the limbo sequence was good. Sadly it wasn’t utilised as such and rather just seems as canon fodder for those who wish to defend c!Dream’s actions as if he did not abuse a child for months on end.

The Unpaid Intern

When Tommy's Uncle, notorious villain Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz, had dubbed Tommy his "Unpaid College Intern" (despite Tommy not being in college) and tasked him to do research on the "Hot Firefighter-inator", Tommy knew that he would have to go deep undercover.

He joined the army.

He got discharged from the army early.

He got his pilot license but then finally hit step two - becoming a firefighter.

He silently worked his way to Harbor Station and built essentially an almost twenty-year-long fake career as a firefighter pilot.

And then.

Tommy found him.

The perfect research subject for his uncle's "Hot Firefighter-inator".

Evan Buckley.

Not to say that Tommy hadn't accrued research on other hot firefighters over the years. Howie Han, Hen Wilson, Bobby Nash, Lucy Donato, and Metlon had all been prime research subjects for Tommy's mission. Even newer faces like Eddie Diaz and Ravi Panikkar were now vital to Tommy's "Hot Firefighter-inator" data.

But Evan Buckley?

There was something different about Evan Buckley.

It totally wasn't because Tommy was in love with the guy. It totally wasn't because every time Tommy's eyes locked with Evan's, his heart skipped a beat. It totally wasn't because every time Evan's eyes flittered from Tommy's eyes to his lips, Tommy wanted to kiss him. It totally wasn't because every time Evan gave him a TEDTalk about the evolution of ants or the history of the paperclip, all Tommy wanted to do was listen to Evan forever.

However, Tommy didn't expect his heart to break when he saw that Evan had found his dastardly plans - had walked into the guest bedroom marked "TOTALLY NOT SECRET PEPE SILVIA ROOM" and found all the data Tommy had gotten over the years for the "Hot Firefighter-inator" tactfully organized on the walls with red string.

With Evan at the center of it all.

"You're... trying to make a ray gun that turns everyone into hot firefighters?" asked Evan, confused.

"Yes. Well. No. Not me. My uncle is. But it's true. I've been lying this whole time," said Tommy, "I'm not a hot firefighter pilot. I'm an intern. An unpaid intern for an evil mastermind hellbent on turning everyone into a hot firefighter. And I'm here to spy on you all."

"But - you have a pilot license."

"I do."

"You've been a firefighter for almost twenty years."

"As a ruse for my nefarious schemes."

"And - and you think I'm the hottest firefighter?" asked Evan, waggling his eyebrows.

And.

Okay, Tommy thought Evan would be a little more upset over this.

"I mean, yeah. You're always smiling. You can talk for hours about monarch butterflies and the creation of butter and it's always fascinating. You're sweet. You're kind. You're thoughtful. You've got muscles and a nice tummy. Not all hot people are abs on abs on abs. Who doesn't like a bit of a stomach? It's healthy. And all I want to do is spend time with you. Of course you're the hottest of the firefighters I've spied on."

"Oh, of course. Definitely just because I'm hot. Only ulterior motives with that answer," said Evan as he walked over and draped his arms loosely over Tommy's shoulders, "Want to make out? For science?"

"I mean, if it's for science," said Tommy as Evan backed Tommy up into his Pepe Silvia board of hot firefighters; as Evan dove into a deep kiss that made Tommy forget his name.

And okay.

Maybe this wasn't just about science.

no one asked for a rant about joel but

so i'm thriving seeing other people react to joel's choice at the end of tlou... seriously, it's giving me life. the moral debates? exquisite.

i love joel. obviously. more than i should. that bitch smuggled my heart ok. and because i love him, i get to talk shit about him.

lying to ellie was not easy for him, but it takes him a long time to regret it. if anything, he regrets that his choice hurt her, but not the choice he made. even when he tells tommy, all he says is 'i saved her'. he believes that. he also knows that ellie doesn't fully buy into his lie. he knows that things aren't right. but she 'hasn't said otherwise', so he wills himself to keep it up for as long as he can.

they didn't give her a choice, and he hides behind that as if he's given that back to her. in his mind, he has. she has the choice to grow up, make friends, live a 'normal' life, be something. he praises her every chance he gets to try and convince her that nothing would be the same (or as wonderful) without her. he knows that she's hurting, but he just vows to be whatever it is she needs to realize that this life he can give her is better than whatever could have happened in that hospital.

when that stops working (as if it ever really did), the guilt sets in. he overcompensates. he meddles in her independence, he pushes himself into the things she's developed outside of him. he tries to protect her the way that he used to.

then she figures out the truth, and he's fucked. he has to fess up. but he would rather ellie hate him than not have her at all.

Spoilers for HBO show’s ending, and Part 1 and Part 2 of the games.

I need to make this post because I’ve been holding it in for a few years.

Troy Baker (Joel’s VA + HBO’s James (HBO’s David 2-in-command)) and Nolan North (David’s VA) did a playthrough of The Last of Us Part 1 and had Merle Dandridge (Marlene’s VA and actor) partake in the last part of the playthrough. All three then talked about the ending, its meanings and the ethics behind Joel's final decision in the hospital. And the one take away that I remember is that Troy raised the theory that Ellie always knew that she had to die for there to be a cure. 

‘To be the cure also meant to be the sacrifice and this [The whole game, Ellie’s journey with Joel] was her death march’ as Troy put it.

And when comparing the game and the show, there is such an emphasis on Ellie’s curiosity to the world, to the past and the future, or more specifically, what’s next? Her recognition that if this is the world she is meant to save, she wants to understand it. Why is it worth saving? 

I’d say this is further empathised with Ellie’s relationship with Riley and the mall, Episode 3 with Bill and Frank and why HBO had Ellie read Bill’s letter, the couple Joel and Ellie found in the middle of fucking no where living a life, and Tommy’s community. All of these relationships and interactions made Ellie understand that her role and purpose in life was to die for the greater good. So that what happened to Riley, Sarah, Tess, Sam, Henry and Ellie’s mum would not happen again. So that communities like Tommy’s could flourish in a safe world and people like David and FEDRA would lose control. So that people could fall in love and have a life together and grow strawberries without the craziness of the apocalypse and the looming thought of death. Essentially, Ellie viewed herself as a last hope for the world and accepted it.

And very sadly, Joel took the purpose and meaning behind her death away from her when he saved her life. Because, while Ellie wanted to save the world, Joel only wanted to save Ellie. (”Joel saved his world, and his whole world was this little girl. And if we can’t save one little girl, then this is not a world worth saving” - Troy again in the playthrough)

Which to me, explains, a) her rage towards Joel in Part 2 and b) why she is so quiet during the last part of the game/ show. One moment she is quietly accepting her death and then the next, she is mourning the death of her purpose. Because, what is she meant to do with her life now when she was ready to die? (I 100% think the giraffe scene and the giraffe motif (game more than show) was Ellie’s innocence and her acceptance to let it go (the giraffes walking away)). And, as stated above, her death taken from her is a cause of her anger in Part 2 but also I think is an aspect behind her recklessness because Ellie has been ready to die for a very long time. 

Troy and Nolan bring up some really interesting questions and discussions, and I just recommend everyone who enjoyed the show and games to go watch the playthrough. They have Neil Druckmann (Director of game and show), Ashley Johnson (Ellie’s VA and HBO’s Ellie’s mother), Jeffrey Pierce (Tommy’s VA), Brandon Scott (Henry’s VA), Hana Hayes (Sarah’s VA) and other members of the game’s cast to give commentary and it just provides another layer to the story.
