The CritRole Werewolf au is a mighty nein werewolf au. I set it in a vaguely modern world, but... in the 90s/early 00's. I wanted it to have some Buffy/Blair Witch/Lost Boys vibes. Like, grotesque and terrifying but with moments of absurd humor and a really bitchin' soundtrack. The Brjeau's are, loosely, the main characters.

Beau and Fjord were the intro duo. They're amateaur ghost hunters touring the country's most haunted locations. They're using Beau's absent fathers' credit card to fund them sleeping in Fjord's work van and get them access to dope shit like handheld video cameras and microphones that Beau uses to prove the supernatural is real. (Fjord films/runs tech. He a) doesn't believe in the supernatural and b) is terrified of it).

They pair up with Caleb- a mysterious dude in a long duster coat with a weird accent who may or may not be a monster hunter, and Veth- who's definitely just some normal housewife who just so happens to hate werewolves and definitely isn't one. They join the team after a scary event where Fjord is lost for a few days in some weird haunted place/sacred temple to some old forgotten wolf god. Caleb and Veth want to make sure Fjord isn't cursed, Beau is thrilled to be proven right that the supernatural exists, and Fjord thinks this is all ridiculous. So what that he's been having some weird dreams? That doesn't mean anything.

(You can see where this is going).

To keep things reigned in, I tried to limit all the supernatural entities to just werewolves (save for Fjord's eventual eldritch horror wolf thing he has going on).

Yasha, Caduceus, Fjord, Veth and Jester are all werewolves. Some of them were born werewolves, some of them were turned. Some were turned willingly, some not(t). Caleb and Beau remain Team Human (though Scourgers are now werewolf hunters, and through grueling training are a weird almost "half" werewolf, so they can't be turned).

There was the smallest of clatters from the ceiling when the Mech crawled through the vents. His pedes and sharp servos tapped along the metallic surface while his long snake-like tail dragged behind him. His movements were as quiet as possible, to try to keep his presence to a minimum. After all, Darkfang wasn't suppose to be there, and sneaking in the vents wasn't exactly 'the normal' way to go through a ship or a building. Perhaps using his altmode would have given better results of movement, but alas, he preferred to be seen as a mech more than a cybersnake. Flashbacks to one time when a mech thought he was nothing but a snake and tried to chop him into tiny pieces. Darkfang's frame shuddered at the sudden memory file and he shook his helm.

His movements gradually came to a stop and the golden finials at the side of his helm twitched. A vent opening, this should be the place-- He slowly lifted up the vent cover and peaked his head inside to check if the room was empty or not.

"Otoko-chan" means "little kid", a nickname she derisively bestowed on me after our catastrophic first battle with Brock (yes I canonically knew about it – she wanted to be very sure I did – she mimed it out). It's not that she disobeys my orders (she does see the merit of "tail whip first, then tackle!") we just have that sort of relationship.

"I don't go by that anymore" is probably the most mindblowing phrase that came out of the 90s to me. (I know it didn't originate then but it sure became normal at that time!)

My third problem with "Pikachu's Goodbye" is the implication that Ash's Pikachu has never been in Pikachu society before, so Ash was going to just dump him on a bunch of strangers. If there'd been any hint that any of them recognized him... it would have at least explained why he's so good at taking care of Togepi!

This page is, honestly, the second-biggest reason why I'd never published the story before. As the first page where we can understand what the pokémon say, it needed to do a lot of heavy lifting including:

Establishing what sort of relationship Rei and I have

Making it clear that Rei has been here before

Following Rei while still showing what I'm doing

Keeping us separated but still in the same frame

The first draft continued with my freakout from the last page (with me saying “What’s this, fur?? What’s this, a tail?? What’s this, I’m small enough to be preyed upon??”) with Rei and Hearty arguing inaudibly in the background. Although this was funny, I felt the the story as a whole suffered as Rei later had to explain what they'd argued about. Show, don't tell, people!

"Many people know about the Yellowstone wolf miracle. After wolves were reintroduced to the national park in the mid-1990s, streamside bushes that had been grazed to stubble by out-of-control elk populations started bouncing back. Streambank erosion decreased. Creatures such as songbirds that favor greenery along creeks returned. Nearby aspens flourished.

While there is debate about how much of this stemmed from the wolves shrinking the elk population and how much was a subtle shift in elk behavior, the overall change was dramatic. People were captivated by the idea that a single charismatic predator’s return could ripple through an entire ecosystem. The result was trumpeted in publications such as National Geographic.

But have you heard about the sea otters and the salt marshes? Probably not.

It turns out these sleek coastal mammals, hunted nearly to extinction for their plush pelts, can play a wolf-like role in rapidly disappearing salt marshes, according to new research. The findings highlight the transformative power of a top predator, and the potential ecosystem benefits from their return.

“It begs the question: In how many other ecosystems worldwide could the reintroduction of a former top predator yield similar benefits?” said Brian Silliman, a Duke University ecologist involved in the research.

The work focused on Elk Slough, a tidal estuary at the edge of California’s Monterey Bay. The salt marsh lining the slough’s banks has been shrinking for decades. Between 1956 and 2003, the area lost 50% of its salt marshes.

Such tidal marshes are critical to keeping shorelines from eroding into the sea, and they are in decline around the world. The damage is often blamed on a combination of human’s altering coastal water flows, rising seas and nutrient pollution that weakens the roots of marsh plants.

But in Elk Slough, a return of sea otters hinted that their earlier disappearance might have been a factor as well. As many as 300,000 sea otters once swam in the coastal waters of western North America, from Baja California north to the Aleutian Islands. But a fur trade begun by Europeans in the 1700s nearly wiped out the animals, reducing their numbers to just a few thousand by the early 1900s. Southern sea otters, which lived on the California coast, were thought to be extinct until a handful were found in the early 1900s.

In the late 1900s, conservation organizations and government agencies embarked on an effort to revive the southern sea otters, which remain protected under the Endangered Species Act. In Monterey Bay, the Monterey Bay Aquarium selected Elk Slough as a prime place to release orphaned young sea otters taken in by the aquarium.

As the otter numbers grew, the dynamics within the salt marsh changed. Between 2008 and 2018, erosion of tidal creeks in the estuary fell by around 70% as otter numbers recovered from just 11 animals to nearly 120 following a population crash tied to an intense El Niño climate cycle.

While suggestive, those results are hardly bulletproof evidence of a link between otters and erosion. Nor does it explain how that might work.

To get a more detailed picture, the researchers visited 5 small tidal creeks feeding into the main slough. At each one, they enclosed some of the marsh with fencing to keep out otters, while other spots were left open. Over three years, they monitored the diverging fates of the different patches.

The results showed that otter presence made a dramatic difference in the condition of the marsh. They also helped illuminate why this was happening. It comes down to the otters’ appetite for small burrowing crabs that live in the marsh.

Adult otters need to eat around 25% of their body weight every day to endure the cold Pacific Ocean waters, the equivalent of 20 to 25 pounds. And crabs are one of their favorite meals. After three years, crab densities were 68% higher in fenced areas beyond the reach of otters. The number of crab burrows was also higher. At the same time, marsh grasses inside the fences fared worse, with 48% less mass of leaves and stems and 15% less root mass, a critical feature for capturing sediment that could otherwise wash away, the scientists reported in late January in Nature.

The results point to the crabs as a culprit in the decline of the marshes, as they excavate their holes and feed on the plant roots. It also shows the returning otters’ potential as a marsh savior, even in the face of rising sea levels and continued pollution. In tidal creeks with high numbers of otters, creek erosion was just 5 centimeters per year, 69% lower than in creeks with fewer otters and a far cry from earlier erosion of as much as 30 centimeters per year.  

“The return of the sea otters didn’t reverse the losses, but it did slow them to a point that these systems could restabilize despite all the other pressures they are subject to,” said Brent Hughes, a biology professor at Sonoma State University and former postdoctoral researcher in Silliman’s Duke lab.

The findings raise the question of whether other coastal ecosystems might benefit from a return of top predators. The scientists note that a number of these places were once filled with such toothy creatures as bears, crocodiles, sharks, wolves, lions and dolphins. Sea otters are still largely absent along much of the West Coast.

As people wrestle to hold back the seas and revive their ailing coasts, a predator revival could offer relatively cheap and effective assistance. “It would cost millions of dollars for humans to rebuild these creek banks and restore these marshes,” Silliman said of Elk Slough. “The sea otters are stabilizing them for free in exchange for an all-you-can-eat crab feast.”"

Bumblebee

He was the winner for my poll on which character I should share lore on first, because he was one of the quiz answers I will add his description there but first let show you the blog where I will be keeping the rest of the information for this au @ask-the-lost-hunt-team

"Bumblebee is an enthusiastic young bot. He has just reached age of the majority and he thrilled to be mostly on his own in New York. He loves his human partner Bri, and her honey bee farm. He is a curious and clever young bot. While the war did tare up his childhood he excited to learn and even play games with his human partner. Bee has always known his Carrier was a decepticon he's just never known who however he does know that Ratchet was his Sire and that Ratchet had Optimus raise him more. Bumblebee oftentimes feels that he is undervalued by the older bots around him and he desperately wants to prove himself. He is determined. Bumblebee starts as a yellow bug but when he notices that Bri has an eye for fancy cars he chooses a 2007 Camaro as his altmode"

Which covers the basics of Bumblebees story. Let me say Ratchet is not evil whatsoever he just didn't have time to take care of his son in between the war and his medic duties. Bots were dying he was doing what he could. He didn't mean to hurt Bumblebee, none of this was on purpose. However he did cause Bumblebee to feel under valued and that he wasn't enough to receive his sires attention and this has caused a rift between Bumblebee and Ratchet, and between Ratchet and other autobots.

Elita one specifically feels that it is 100% Ratchet's fault. She didn't want sparklings and it was unfair that Ratchet expected her and Optimus along with some other bots to drop everything and raise his son.

So Bee and Bri, Bumblebee and Bri met eachother by total accident. Like someone crashed into Bees alt mode accident. Bri went to help the people and she was shocked when the car that got hit had taken off. She followed him and saw his root mode, Bumblebee took her on as his partner and they've been friends ever since.

Bumblebee was excited when Optimus called for him and the other Autobots to meet up and he loved meeting Kaya, E, and Aiden,(Jazz, Bulkhead and Arcee's human partners)

Bumblebee hopes to make Ratchet and Optimus proud of him

When Bumblebee does meet his Carrier he's shocked by how sweet they are to him and he momentarily considers joing the Decepticons

I wanted to have some bug-like attributes to Bumblebee and many Cybertroians actually have the same type of leg set up as Bumblebee. It's ment for speed and dodging, some warframes will have legs like this but usually war frames are a little more sturdier. Also Bumblebee has an extra set of arm, this is a trait he inherited from Ratchet. I'm still not in love with this design but it's getting there.

Bulkhead and [REDACTED] "E"

So two post for the two winners, I'm so sorry the art took forever and I had some personal stuff come up

Lore + art underneath the cut

So I'm pretty sure the only reason this duo won was because of E, so we should probably start with who E is and his relationship with Bulkhead.

Bulkhead's altmode is a truck, for some plot purposes but also because I think it fits him and with his story.

E is the last letter in E's dead-name, the only remnit of his former self as he likes to say (E is a by product of a childhood nickname as well). E is a Transgender kid who is finishing up his last year of High School when he meets Bulkhead.

So how did they meet?

We can thank E's extremely supportive Grandpa, who was always willing to help E out, whether his interest in cars or getting his dead-name removed from documentation at school. E's Grandpa was in the military and this led to Bulkheads interest in humans leading him to E's Grandpa. When Bulkhead comes to vist E's Grandpa he's of course older and unable to provide the alliance Bulkhead will need. So E and Bulkhead get introduced to eachother.

When the story starts

Arcee and her human partner recive a call from Optimus, Bulkhead didn't even though he was supposed to so Arcee and Bulkhead want to go find the other autobots. It ends up being extremely convenient for E, who had been contemplating running away from a young age. E's whole backstory is another mess. The important part is E and Aiden pack most their stuff with Bulkhead and Arcee carries some as they head to New York to search the entire State for Bumblebee and Jazz.

E at this point also has a puppy, a gift from his grandpa, that he supposed to train to help with his anxiety. The thought was that by haveing a dog that needs to be brushed very often that E could sooth himself by doing something repetitive. The dog is a poodle and named Bang.

Anyway E is very loud, he's excitable and he can be extremely impulsive however he's also very intelligent and his intelligence can get him out of the those situations. E looks at life like a puzzle, good news for him, he loves puzzles. E also loves dying his hair and mostly shaves his head when the story starts because his parents force him to have it long. He eventually grows it out in the way he wants and dyes it as he pleases.

E and Bulkhead can feed off of eachothers energies and this can make them a very chaotic duo at times. Bulkhead was reminded of the way he and E understand eachother to the way cybertorians communicate through EM feilds. This led to the discovery that being around cybertorians can change some human DNA and the fact that both E's Grandpa and Dad (unknowingly) spent time around cybertorians so E is hypersensitive (for a human) to EM feilds.

So there's this silly issue that comes up where E loves swimming and hates getting out of the water once he's in it, no matter how early it is. This means that at 4am there have been times where Bulkhead, Bang and E go down to the beach and just play in the water when no one else is around.

While the team is in New York they find another puppy, he's a mutt who looks color and face wise to be mostly Rottweiler named Crash.

E oftentimes feels like Bulkhead is the only one he can confide in and often times Bulkhead ends up comforting him. The two end up very close by the end. They both know they can fully trust the other

Been thinking a lot lately about romanced Astarion post-spawn ending.

Because like. The Funnest™ thing about cptsd is how much of it gets delayed. When you're trapped in a lengthy, ongoing traumatic situation, you do not have the ability to process and start healing your mental wounds. Your brain and body go into survival mode, and all that matters in the moment is that you somehow cope with the horrors. He wouldn't have been able to even begin dealing with the physical, mental and emotional toll of two hundred years of torture, brutalization and dehumanization while he was under Cazador's control; he is in constant danger, surrounded by sharks in the water, and survival means not letting them smell blood. He can't afford to fall apart, to show weakness. He is shockingly functional and competent in-game, partly because he has to be to work as a game character, but also partly because...it do be like that, to some degree. When death, for whatever reason, is not an option, you just have to shut down and keep going. People adapt in order to survive, and when we learn that showing an "injury" (physical or psychological) only gets us punished, we learn to hide it.

Early-game Astarion is terrified - of Cazador, of Godey, of being hunted down by his siblings, of being staked or sold off at the first opportunity by Tav and the other companions, of turning into a mindflayer, of another painful transformation, of losing himself when he's only just regained his autonomy after two centuries, of what Cazador will do to him if he ever finds him - the man is overwhelmed by fear. He's on thin ice as a vampire, and he's not going to give them any more reason to want him gone. Survival instinct is still in control, and in this new situation, crafting some fragile safety for himself means not only selling his body for protection, but also being useful. Clear-headed. Good in a fight.

Endgame Astarion finds himself in a completely different situation. The time-sensitive overarching threats - Cazador and impending ceremorphosis - have been dealt with. He has a loving, supportive partner he's really starting to feel safe with - Tav/Durge has proved that they're on his side, that their affection is genuine, that they don't just want him for the one thing he's been told he's good for. They've told him they're going to help him find a workaround for his sun allergy. He's getting fed regularly. He has time to stop, and breathe, and just. Recuperate.

For the first time in 200 years, he is safe.

And it will probably take a while to catch up, during which time he will seem to be coping really well, but at some point, his brain is going to realise that he's safe, and it's going to finally start processing the sheer fucking horror he's been through. Since I haven't seen anyone talking about this particular fun aspect of cptsd, allow me to offer u some thoughts on issues Astarion and Tav might end up dealing with in the months/years postgame, during the

✨ Delayed Trauma Response ✨

Memory Gaps: Astarion realising, as he opens up to Tav, that there are entire years or decades of his life from which he has only a handful of memories. Great big blank stretches where he has no idea where he was, who he was with, what was happening to him. Some of the gaps cover years at a time where he was so dissociated and shut down that he just didn't retain any memories of what was going on around him. Some are shorter periods of particularly horrific torture that his brain has deliberately blocked out to protect him.

Recovered Memories: At some point, years into the future when he's done A Lot of healing, he might find that every now and then, a fragment of those lost memories will unexpectedly come back to him. He'll catch a particular scent on the breeze, or overhear a specific phrase in the street, or cross paths with someone whose face is oddly familiar, and he'll get a glimpse of an acute horror he'd filed neatly away where it couldn't hurt him anymore. He very rarely remembers all the context to those flashes of his past. He might recall that he was punished, but not what he was punished for, or he might remember words spoken by a greedy conquest, but be unable to recall the man's face.

Dissociation: Tav knows going into this relationship that Astarion has basically made an art out of dissociating during sex. They also know, from their shared encounter with the drow twins, that he's not great at enforcing his own boundaries - he'll always say he'll speak up and back out if he stops having fun, but in practice he rarely does; he's not used to having the option of saying no to his partner, and being punished if he tries. So they know there's going to be some practice and experimentation and negotiation necessary there, to figure out the rough limits of his comfort zone. But once he starts really processing, there may be days where he just checks out completely. Tav will touch his shoulder, and he'll startle and apologise - "Terribly sorry, darling, I was miles away for a moment there." And Tav will gently point out that he's been sat in the same spot vacantly staring into the middle distance for hours. They've been checking in on him occasionally and this is the first time he's responded. It's unsettling, to say the least.

Lost Time: Astarion was very young when he was turned, physically mature but emotionally juvenile. He was basically an overgrown teenager, in the phase of life where elves are just starting to learn who they are and what they want, and figure out their place in the world. But he never got to do that, because he spent his formative young adult years in a world where everyone became an abuser, where his only means of surviving was to smile and charm and obey while even his basic human dignity was stripped away. He learned that communication is based on manipulation. He learned that the powerful can do whatever they like to the weak. He learned an incredibly toxic, abusive way of life, and that was his family dynamic, his everyday life, for as long as he can remember. Now that he's free and safe, he's realising that the world doesn't actually work that way and that he's now far behind even shorter-lived races in social/emotional development. He's grieving for the person he could've been. He's grieving for the life he could've lived. He's grieving for all the years he already lost, and the ones he'll lose in the future as he flounders to catch up. A decent chunk of his life was stolen from him, and that's time he will never get back.

Flashbacks & Night Terrors: Specifically the kind where your brain convinces you that an injury you had a long time ago is actually an injury you have (or are receiving) right now. There are nights where he'll wake Tav in a panic, because his back feels like it's on fire, he can feel every freshly-carved wound dripping blood and he's in so much pain he doesn't know what else to do. If Tav looks, they see nothing out of the ordinary - old, long-healed scars, same as always. But the pain and the fear and the distress are all very real to him, and all they can do is try to comfort him, cover his back with cool damp cloths or healing salves, remind him he's safe now and they're not leaving him.

Boundary Shifting: Sometimes, Tav can come up and hug him from behind, and he'll melt into them a little bit and go all soft and happy. Other times, he might flinch away or go rigid at the same gesture. A lot of the time, it really depends on how he's feeling on the day, but at least a little bit of it is deliberate - he's pushing to find the limit of just how much autonomy Tav is willing to give him. He wants to know at what point they'll stop respecting his "no". Will they accept it if he doesn't want a hug? If he wants to sleep in his own room tonight? At what point will understanding turn to anger at being rejected? From the drow twins four/fivesome, we also know he's got a tendency to push his own boundaries, and jump into things he's actually not ready for, and Tav would be the one holding his hand through the fallout as he tries to figure out what his own boundaries even are.

Frustration! So, so much frustration. He wants to be Over It already. He wants to move past everything that ever happened to him and never think about it again. He hates that Cazador still has a grip on him, even in death - he doesn't want to give the bastard the satisfaction of dwelling on all his punishments, his cruelties. Sometimes, that frustration is going to explode outwards at Tav - he'll get angry at them for coddling him, or find something small to start a fight over, or he'll set an unreasonable boundary and try to defend it because he's still learning what healthy boundaries look like. Sometimes, it will implode inwards, and that won't be about Tav at all, but they'll get the brunt of it all the same - it might come out as self-loathing or self-punishment, and he'll react by doing something stupid, like trying to drive them away, because having a secure, relatively healthy relationship is terrifying and the instinct is to destroy it before Tav can. There will be yelling and angry tears and deeply unhealthy coping mechanisms, and they'd have to work through that. Trauma is ugly, and Astarion is right at the beginning of a very long journey towards healing.

Abandonment Issues: Astarion wants the relationship to be one between equals, but he's kind of got Tav on a pedestal all the same. They saved him. They helped him get rid of Cazador for good. They chose him and love him despite a wealth of better (in his eyes) options, and all his baggage. They stayed with him even when he has very little to offer them. We know his vanity and obnoxious self-absorption is a fragile attempt to obscure the fact that his self-esteem is in the dirt and he has virtually no self-worth, and there are a couple of occasions in-game where it becomes clear that he's afraid of losing the one person who somehow considers him lovable. After seeing Sebastian and all the other conquests, he begs Tav not to hate him, saying that he did what he had to. If he has a rival for Tav's affections, and Tav informs him that they broke up with the rival to be with Astarion, he's shocked and the first thing out of his mouth is, "You ended things with them for me? Why?" And if Durge tries to break up with him for his own safety, his facade drops and he immediately asks if he did something wrong. So while he's not afraid to argue with Tav, if something happens - like an angry outburst - that upsets or angers them, and he thinks he's at risk of losing that one steady, stable person in his life, he might well cling and overcompensate to try and repair what he thinks is a fracture in their relationship. He'll fawn or beg or crawl into Tav's bed to "apologise" and "make it up to them" because, well, very occasionally it worked on Cazador. With patience and good communication and lots of repeatedly driving the lesson home to overcome 200 years of education to the contrary, he will eventually start to believe that "I'm really pissed off at you right now," does not equate to, "You are the worst mistake I've ever made and I am leaving you."

Panic Attacks: I feel like honestly he'd get some symptoms of these on a fairly regular basis, but he's never been given any option other than just trying to power through them. He's used to realising he's shaking, he's used to feeling like he's watching himself from outside his body, or like he can't breathe even though he doesn't need to. He's very familiar with the sickening fear in his gut, so intense it makes his head spin. He's not used to being comforted or reassured about them - he thinks they're normal. Tav disagrees.

Anyway, cptsd is messy and complicated and often looks very different from person to person so these will not represent everyone's but these are just some ideas for what the ongoing recovery process might make them work through, based on the aspects I'm most familiar with.

Astro observations pt 1

Hey y'all this is my very first post :) Please take it with a grain of salt. These are just my interpretations and observations and a placement could mean million different things on how its being viewed and understood and nothing is sure on how it manifests for you in your chart.

Jupiter in 8th house can mean many things, one of them being your spouse would bring transformative experiences into your life.

2. Scorpio mercuries may have a tendency to over analyze what is being said or always wanting to read between the lines

3. I have seen Pluto in 5th house of all the people who's mothers were dominated. Though this can mean the other way around too, and could be that the mother was dominating.

4. I think other than most people saying Pluto 1st housers go a massive change in appearance, I think it could actually mean that their personality and persona goes a massive change at some point in their life, or its constantly being evolved through learning experiences

5. Venus in 1st house people, are extremely beautiful.

6. Check Asteroid fama (408) and industria(389) if any of these positively aspect your venus, you could get fame for your beauty or work within the beauty industry.
