So I was reading a TCF reaction fic, I think it was Beginning of the End by who-stole-my-fries. And in that one of the Choi Hans, TCF Choi Han I think, was talking about what happened at Harris Village. And he said something like "I used to wonder how anyone could take another person's life. After that [the assassination of Harris Village], I realised how blind I'd been". Something along those lines.
What a line. What a line to have in a fanfiction. What a line to have Choi Han, the protagonist of The Birth of a Hero, the hero of a story and a hero in this world too, say. And it doesn't really matter which Choi Han said it, because it was referring to an event they both experienced, so we can assume that they both had this realisation.
This somewhat but not really links to an interesting theme among Cale and his friends and family. Because they are heroes, they're saving their world and other worlds and saving people. But none of them are completely pure or morally white. They all have, can and will do evil sadistic things to the people who hurt those they care about and put them in danger and they won't feel remorse for it. They have no qualms about killing or torturing or getting revenge. Because, yes, they're saving the world, but one of their main motivations, main reasons for doing this, is each other, to keep each other safe, to protect each other, to get revenge on behalf of each other. They only do those things to evil people, villains, but it's so interesting, because I feel like if you put them in other worlds, not their story but other stories, they'd be seen as vigilantes or even, in worlds with black and white morality, villains.
And I always think that's really cool. When a story doesn't have that black and white morality, when the heroes have to do "bad" thongs to win. Because really what's the alternative? They don't kill or torture people, they let them live, imprison them or something. Considering some of the villains are gods and others have special powers and abilities, that won't work. And these people aren't going to change their minds and suddenly abandon goals they've been working towards for decades and centuries. There is no alternative.
Or maybe there is. Realistically Venion could have simply been imprisoned, left with the knowledge that the brother he hates, the brother he thought he'd got rid of, had the position he always wanted as Marquis. But he tortured a child, a child dragon, but still a child. So is imprisonment punishment enough? I'd say no. Not for this. For abusing and torturing a child since they were born.
And that's one of the reasons I love these stories. Because there are so many stories where the villain is allowed to live at the end, hoping that justice, the system, will deal with them. But sometimes, sometimes revenge is understandable, sometimes the only way to stop the villain, is to kill them.
Choi Han wondered how anyone could kill another person. But then people came for his family, his friends everyone he knew and cared about, and he realised how blind he'd been.
Sorry, idk what this was. That one sentence or couple sentences from a fanfiction just stuck in my brain, not the exact words but the meaning. Ugh, god, I love TCF and I love fanfictions based on TCF.

Tcf a summary by me
1K notes · View notes
Cale stops at the door. Inside of the room is a concert hall, and in the center...
A... piano?
The God of Death said that he had a gift for him, but an instrument that Cale hasn’t touched in decades certainly wasn’t what he expected. This will be weapon that can only harm enemies, never allies, if the God of Death was telling the truth.
Cale frowns. He ordered Raon and the rest to stay out while he inspected it, and now he’s glad that he did. He may need a few minutes to warm up his skills.
Sitting at the bench brings back some of his oldest memories, and Cale lowers his guard subconsciously. His fingers flutter over the keys and settle into a comforting position, ready to play a simple scale. He hums, recalling it.
Within a few minutes, Cale has Recorded a correct play-through of every scale. His heartbeat relaxes, falling into a slow cadence as Cale reminisces. The orphanage, the old, untuned piano… the nice teenager who taught him a few scales before she left, like everyone did. He used to practice those scales when he could, and he learned a few simple songs before the piano fell apart completely.
He doesn’t hesitate to stumble through one of those songs. The errors are corrected and perfected within moments after they occur, and Cale loses himself to the easy refinement.
He adds his second hand , brushing through a scale easily. His Record ability makes this very simple. A genuine smile slips onto his face, though he does think about the advantage he'll have when using this divine item since he already knows how to play.
Choi Han opens the door right as Cale loses himself completely to the creation of music. His companions watch in fascination as the notes sing within the church, clear and perfectly in tune. Cale accidentally makes a harsh chord, corrects it, and keeps playing. He doesn’t notice their entrance.
No one breathes as Cale closes his eyes. They’ve never seen their young master look so at ease, so at peace. The music he creates is mystifying, crossed between gloom and hope. His long fingers look like they were made for those white and black keys, which only Choi Han can recognize. It's a unique instrument for their world, after all.
Cale blinks. A tear falls from his eye, to his utter astonishment. Is this an effect of the divine item? He reaches up to touch it, leaving the music on a beautiful, unintentionally sad tone.
He smiles, slightly. If this is the only effect, maybe Raon won’t have to feed him soggy apple pie so much.
Rosalyn holds in a choked gasp at the image of Cale smiling softly, a single tear drifting down his cheek, a delicate finger touching the fresh, gentle trail of its path.
Choi Han takes in a shuddering breath. Choi Jung Soo’s memories don’t mention that Cale had been a piano player.
Cale finally sees his group from the corner of his eye, and he smiles picturesquely. No one speaks at this beautiful, quiet image of their commander.

I am firm in my belief that TCF is writing its own crossovers and fanfictions into the story.
A story where what if everyone died except for Cale after the final battle against the White Star? Just check the Wind Island Test.
A time travel fix-it/everybody lives fic? The Sealed God's Test on Earth 2 technically counts.
An AU where the White Star wins and Cale loses, or maybe a world where Cale does not exist? Reading about Kim Rok Soo's past before the apocalypse or when he was a kid? What if Choi Han managed to save Harris Village? You can find all of that in the Sealed God's Temple!
What if TCF had a crossover? No problem! Do you want a necromancer world? A murim world? Or do you want a "Duke of the North Cale Henituse" world? Do you want a Demon King with that, or a side dish of the Divine Realm?

Personal pet peeve: When a particular character has a lot of paperwork and such associated with their job and it has been established in universe that the work is extremely hard, complicated, and tedious but then in fanfic another character in another job position takes up this character's paperwork and does it perfectly. That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works.
Paperwork is not some nebulous pile of papers so easy that anyone can just waltz in and fill it up just like that. Paperwork, especially for large organisations, requires specific training and knowledge. A particular situation might have at least ten forms associated with it depending on how it happened, when it happened, who were involved, who were affected, who filed the initial report etc. It could be form A.1, it could be form B8, it could be G3 or D-3.2e, and then it has to be filed away in a specific way under a specific designation. At times it could be completely nonsensical but still necessary and part of proper procedure....all of that requires training and experience. Someone from a totally unconnected role can't just take over this position and do an excellent job at it, unless it has been previously established that they too had prior training and guidance in this.
Example: Cale(KRS) and Basen Henituse in Trash of the Count's Family. Kim Rok Soo before trasmigration into Cale Henituse was a team leader who has experience with important official documentation and paperwork for the Company. Basen Henituse is established to have been send to territory heirship classes and doing well in them. These two people being able to take on the other's paperwork load is not at all farfetched. (Same with Cale and Alberu though the latter would still have to sign and seal his insignia separately in the end.)
So no someone who's untrained can't just take someone else's paperwork and just breeze through them unless they are like supernaturally intelligent to the point of figuratively downloading all the necessary data and information directly into their brain or something.
Let's not even talk about how the character might have a particular way and organisation of doing things and someone else taking over their workload without permission might just mess that order up and their well intended actions might end up doing more harm than good.
Look at MXTX's Shang Qinghua or Ling Wen. As I'm reading SVSSS right now let's take it as an example.
Someone who can conduct and lead an audit: Shang Qinghua, specifically trained as an auditor. Yue Qingyuan- can possibly fill in for a specific kind of audit.
Someone who cannot conduct an audit: Literally every other Peak Lord on Cang Qiong. Not trained for it. Should not be in charge of it.
Someone who can file in medical paperwork: Mu Qingfang, head of medical operations in the sect.
Someone who can't do that: his Peak Lord colleagues. At most they'll be able to file in incident reports and other such forms that guardians of patients will have to fill in at a hospital.
People involved with merchants and associated business transactions: Shang Qinghua(logistics expert-procurement logistics), and for large contracts, Yue Qingyuan(Sect Leader). Other Peak Lords depending on the goods. For example the Zui Xian Peak Lord when they are negotiating prices for the raw materials or equipment for alcohol brewing or Wei Qingwei when they are sourcing metal.
Someone who can handle annual budgeting: Shang Qinghua. Person who allocates the funds according to the final budget- Yue Qingyuan.
Persons who can't do that: His colleagues who are definitely not trained in finances and accounting.
And so on and so on.
Shang Qinghua was invited back to the sect after literal treason because nobody else could do his job. That should tell you that people without specific training can't just take over the paperwork of another person's job unless their own jobs are connected enough to be sufficiently similar that they can handle it.
So no someone like Shen Qingqiu who's a scholar and tactician primarily, can't take the entirety of Shang Qinghua's or Mu Qingfang's or Yue Qingyuan's paperwork and fill it in for them, no matter how intelligent he is. Though I'm sure Yue Qingyuan would let him sect be damned lmao.
You see things like this in many other fandoms as well. Innocuous forms that anyone can fill in are okay but complicated paperwork for auditing, budgeting, logistics, diplomacy, business transactions, internal affairs, etc? No way. That all takes time to familiarize with before even properly filing them let alone actually doing them.
This is of course a personal pet peeve as I mentioned from the beginning. People are free to write what they want, read what they want, like what they want. This is no way an accusation towards particular individuals. It's just that for me it breaks immersion pretty quickly.

Draft for the fanfic thing I was talking about
The OG!rokcale one:
Cale: Fuck you, yo mama, yo pet, AND that crusty ass village!
Choi han: you wanna repeat that?
Cale: As a matter of fact, I will. Fu- *sees guy falling from the air and catches him on instinct* what the fuck?
Choi han: *looking at the guy only to notice Korean features*…. Give him to me
Cale: *clutching him protectively* ??why? So you can beat him up next?
Choi han: No?! Why would I do that!?
Me and the pookie have dubbed this a meme draft. This is only for the first chapter.
We decided that at least 3 chapters should be written before posting the first one... I've just barely started the second one, but the first one is done! Almost 2k words, so proud of myself 😭
This is gonna be on AO3!! I'll post the link when I actually get to it haha. (Also might put it on Wattpad if I feel like it)

Top 10 TCF Fanfics Formats
So, as far as I can tell, if you're looking up TCF fics on AO3, at least 90% of what you see will be one (or more) of these formats:
Reaction Fic ("In an Instant" fic alikes: all sorts of "divine intervention" and "watching the show" setups)
Where Cale is Not Cale (usually: KRS transmigrates as another character. Most commonly: Twin Cales AU.)
TCF Except Slightly AU (sometimes because of a ship, but generally a straight-up canon retelling with changed details)
Shipping "Ahoy!" (I don't read those, but I've seen Alberu/Cale & Choi Han/Cale tags a lot. I can roughly imagine.)
Angst Fest Under Magnifying Glass (mostly based on the colorful collection of Cale or OG Cale's traumas, but often exaggerates them to make them EXTRA depressing and basically AU)
Dimension Travel (kinda similar to reaction fic premise, except Cale and sometimes others literally appear in the TBOAH dimension)
Crossovers (usually ORV, mostly Cale ends up in a crossover and... is being Cale, but nothing status-quo breaking happens most of the time?)
Romance Game and/or High School AU (for some reason...? Usually Cale-centric, but not always)
Something Weird Happens To Cale (usually de-aging scenarios, curses & transformations)
Various one-shots (mostly Gen small what-if or canon compliant scenarios)
I'll be perfectly honest - I'm guilty of mostly writing that kind of stuff as well. I covered a lot of different fics within those categories, so it might seem unfair. But... TCF fandom can use a little bit more variety, don't you guys think?

All hail the weakling Cale
So, I'm writing a sick Cale Henituse fanfic with a little bit of plot and a lot of stubbornness on both Cale and the others' side.
Just a snippet from chapter three that I have not posted yet.
"No."
And if anyone asked, no, Cale wasn't shaking from how scared he was of a certain Butler's hand pushing him down; he was just cold.
Unfortunately, Ron also seemed to think so, as he fixed the blanket that Cale had pushed off earlier over him. He and Ron stared at each other for a moment before they both let out the same tired sigh at the same time.
A few quiet moments later, Beacrox entered with just one tray. The kids were outside, playing. Or at least that's what Choi Han told him with that scary look in his eyes.
(Little did he know, the children averaging 9 years old were not so much as 'playing' as 'training'. Well, to them, there isn't much of a difference.)
Aigoo, how'd I meet so many vicious people in just two years?
Cale continued to internally sulk while his face outside was still stoice and flushed. His slacker life was still quite far away, but he still had some stuff to deal with on the Eastern continent. There were also the pressing matters of the mermaids that he tried to ignore but couldn't anymore, and of course the white radish found a new buddy around as strong as Syrem.
Cale was frowing when Ron finished setting up his breakfast and smoothed his hair back. He probably didn't like what he saw in the redhead's eyes, as the atmosphere around him turned chilly. But that also quickly subsided when he saw his young master shiver.
Cale looked at the food with a disgruntled expression. He didn't feel like eating when all he was doing was throwing up and wasting precious resources. This was a waste of money, food, and hygienic cleaning supplies all at the same time. He would much prefer to talk with his wicked hyung at his desk about his reward money, which was due to arrive in buckets soon enough.
So he didn't pick up the spoon. And even when Ron picked it up to feed him—really, how old do they think he is? Strong people must have very high standards for strong people, or else why would they treat him like a weakling?!
(AN: LMAO, Cale mistaking their affection for him to them treating him like a weakling!🥹Though he is a weakling in a sense, albeit a very strong one.)
Cale discreetly takes a glance at Beacrox, who is standing by the door as if trying to replace Choi Han's palce, who is currently busy 'playing' along with the children.
So, in short, Cale did not need to be a role model anymore and could be as stubborn as he wanted.
His trash insticts kicked in.
Cale pursed his lips shut and did not budge even when he saw Ron's hand twitching with frustration.

part 1
so. this is part one of a red dragon!krs fic ive been building up… this first chapter doesnt really have much much interesting scenes as of right now, and I’d love love love the input from everyone on how to continue, ideas for characters, and if theres anything i should consider changing!! that doesnt mean that i’ll be changing everything according to commenters, but i’d value all opinions to help build this plot 🥲
I’ve already finished around 3 similar length chapters and recently got stuck, so think of these posts as drafts and final revisions will probably go officially on AO3. thanks everyone 🤪
———
Oh, Pitiful Dragon (1)
-
Ever since his birth, the child longed for death. If it could take away his pain and grant his freedom, he’d trade anything he had so scarce of already. And on a particularly horrible day— the day that terrible man decided he would rip out his heart and use it for evil— the little child met a god.
The God of Death.
He thought it was ironic, seeing how soon his own demise was due soon. But this God didn’t come to reap his death, rather it came to propose a deal.
And the red dragon would accept any deal to be free of this pitiful life.
-
Kim Roksoo awoke suddenly from his slumber. His vision was black and only began to adjust to his blurred version after continuous blinking. Why was it so dark? And how had he fallen asleep? He was just finishing Volume 5 of The Birth of a Hero series and now— wait, are those chains?!
His eyes blew open and his vision was finally adjusted to the pitch darkness that surrounded him. He tried to stand but winced when pain spiked all across his body. Only then did he realize just how badly injured he was. Why was he so weak? Had someone kidnapped and beat him to a pulp?! He was completely blinded by the inexplicable pain that he hadn’t realized something much more important. No— wait, pain is important! It’s definitely concerning! But… why was his whole body covered in crimson scales?
‘Oh geez, well isn’t this new.’
Shortly after he had that thought he passed out from exhaustion and shock.
-
When Kim Roksoo woke again, he was practically being strangled. He quickly gasped for air and focused in on his current situation. He was being held up tightly by a metal collar on his (very, very sore) neck by some strange man in front of him. His hair was a long, spiky mess of blond and didn’t look very well-maintained. But his eyes… they were bloodshot red and had a crazed glint to them.
‘Crazy bastard…!’
Roksoo’s breathing was beginning to strain more and more, and suddenly he felt something prick beneath his scales painfully. He looked down and saw a clear tube running from his body all the way through an open passageway not so far from him. His blood began flowing through it.
‘Blood— They’re.. taking my blood?’
His thoughts were becoming even more incoherent by the second but after securing the clear tube into the little red dragon, the crazed man dropped him to the floor.
“You’re blood is so pure and vibrant, it’s so beautiful.. just like the color of your scales! It will definitely aid our liege and his cause. Haha!”
All Roksoo could think of was how crazy this lunatic was. He was still heavily panting, because honestly when was he not at this point, but thankfully he hadn’t passed out again. Instead, he glared with all his being towards the crazy bastard standing above him. Unfortunately, it only seemed to excite the lunatic even more.
“Maybe I really should visit you more. That look in your eyes gives me chills!”
Mumbling to himself, the psycho soon left the room through the very passage his blood was being drawn towards, and Roksoo was left alone; unprotected and cold. He hated feeling this way. These people didn’t seem to want him alive for so long, considering his “luxury” treatment. He was going to miserably die at their hands sooner or later. And he was too weak to do anything about it.
His eyes suddenly flashed with memories— no, records— of his fight with the second unranked monster to plague Korea. Lee Soohyuk and Choi Jungsoo… he had let them die. It was his fault and he knew it. It was something he’d regret for the rest of his life. But… they had told him to keep living. To keep living for them. He couldn’t die. It didn’t matter how he got into this situation. He’d rather crawl in shit than die this pathetically. He’d survive his new predicament— this new life that’s been granted to him. He’d survive.
He’d definitely survive to smack these bastards in the back one day.
-
Roksoo had spent weeks in that dark hell. His blood continued to flow from his body to somewhere unknown, he was paid violent visits by that lunatic, and he got weaker and weaker because of it. But his will didn’t waver for a second. Whenever someone came in to check on him, he’d mark it in his mind every time. Soon enough, he learned their patterns and found openings. He finally had a plan to escape this hell, no matter how many holes there were.. it was a chance.
With his limited information, there was only so far he could get, but somewhere deep inside him, he knew he’d manage. So, he followed his instincts. The minute his opening came, he used all the strength he had gathered and focused.
‘Concentrate. Concentrate on that feeling you’ve been accumulating, Roksoo!’
Suddenly, Roksoo felt as if he’d achieved some sort of enlightenment like the ones described in murim stories. He felt an overwhelming warmth spread throughout his body and a rush of adrenaline pumped through his veins exponentially. This power… He didn’t know where it had suddenly manifested from, but he was sure now. He could get out of here using it. His mind and body began working beyond their limits, and eventually everything around him felt like it was moving at a snails pace.
‘Instant..?’
His second ability from his past life, Instant. Time would seize and he could move freely for a short while. With a heavy cost on his body of course.
‘But this… it’s similar to instant, but it’s not completely it. I think— No, I can definitely handle this much better than what I’ve been able to before in Korea.’
His new body must’ve integrated Instant into another power. And this new power was about to help him escape. A small smirk graced his torn and bloodied face. Perfect.
Shackles that were tying his limbs down shattered beneath the little dragon’s feet in the blink of an eye, and in a literal instant he was darting across the passage with his slashed and scarred limbs.
‘Keep going. I have to keep going and get out of here!’
He was sprinting through the corridors, and if anybody had looked his way all they would’ve seen was a long, red blur. A bright light was beginning to seep in between the cracks in the ceiling of the dark man-made cave he was confined in.
‘Screw the consequences, we’re blasting through!’
With incredible speed, Roksoo was right beneath the seeping cracks of light and expanded his unused wings for the first time. His wingspan barely fit within the wide corridor as he spread them out and up, blasting off from his spot on the ground and flying like a rocket towards the ceiling. He was making it out.
Just as he impacted and the dust and debris had shot up everywhere, he spotted a few individuals standing far off in the sunlight. The most notable was a red haired main of fairly tall stature completely frozen in place by Roksoo’s sudden escapade. He wore a strange white mask over his upper face, his eyes a bright red with hints of brown. The person looked far to similar to Roksoo. His prominent crimson red and his own piercing reddish-brown eyes. They would’ve looked entirely the same if it weren’t for Roksoo’s current form.
He only locked eyes with the man for a split second, and continued shooting up into the sky. He began to hear shouts and alarms blaring within his vicinity. He had been encaged in a mountain with a large encampment stealthily surrounding it. He’d remember this exact spot.
Massive fireballs and arrows began piercing the sky in an attempt to bring Roksoo down, but he clumsily maneuvered around each and just barely grazed a few on his crimson scales. Suddenly, a blinding white spear had crossed his vision. And before he knew it, another had pierced right through his wing, tearing it open a considerable amount. Roksoo stifled the cry of pain that threatened escaping his lips, and instead gritted his teeth and continued to fly towards any kind of safety. Anything other than here will be safe, he just needs to lose these bastards first. The adrenaline rush he had originally received numbed all the pain in his body, but he knew that wouldn’t last with his current levels. He had to make use of every last bit of this power that he had in him.
He flew over an ocean and kept flying as far away as he could. Eventually he reached the mainland. The forest underneath him was dark and vast, a perfect hiding spot. He glides over the tree-line and with his remaining strength he just barely managed a suitable landing right by a flowing river. His landing was a little on the rough side and he was still so sore, but… he had finally made it out. He was successful. Now, he could truly live a slacker life! Wait— he still needs to get back at the bastards who had tortured him in the first place. Ah.. he also needs to secure enough funds for his slacker life as well.
Sigh.
Roksoo had much to do before he got to live a peaceful life.
‘But first, let’s just lay here a little while longer…’
Roksoo succumbed to his exhaustion and pain, entering a deep slumber.

I actually had this crazy idea for a tcf fanfiction. So Raon told Cale (despite him not wanting to know) that Alberu is not human and his hair and eyes are dyed magically, them originally being brown. When Raon saw dead mana for the first time, he realized it was similar to the energy the crown prince was giving off. That is how they came to realize that Alberu Crossman is actually a quarter dark elf. So imagine if he was a vampire instead. Like, they're also creatures of the dark and not much about their powers are revealed (I haven't reached that part of the novel, I've only read spoilers). So like, Raon would go he's not human. He's strong, very strong. His hair is actually white (I don't know the real hair colour of vampires) and Cale trying to figure out what exactly Alberu is. Maybe he wouldn't because he thinks getting involved with the crown prince would be trouble for him, but he might have to because the help of this scamming prince is very essential in his future plans. Since Raon was never exposed to Vampires in the first season, I suppose there's no way to find out. Then imagine they somehow formed an alliance. Then Raon gets to meet a vampire, and he goes, it's similar to the energy of the crown prince. And Cale be like, wut? But there are a lot of complications in this fanfiction, because vampires age like, very slowly and a twenty something year old Alberu would be a toddler more than anything. But it might be different for half-vampires, I think? (If that's even a thing) And imagine Alberu going, your blood smells nice or something like that Fredo guy and Cale just making a deal with his blood rather than dead mana? I dunno, this all sounds messed up but it's so funny. I mean, Eruhaben who lived for a thousand years can be the one to reveal Alberu being a vampire too, since he's a thousand years old and has seen a lot of beings. And then, I dunno, Fredo can be alberu's mom's brother or something? And he'll go, oh my nephew, is that you?.....this is such a mess

Read the trailer chapter before reading this one if you haven't (it's a mix between the story summary and a chap so you need to read it before this one)
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
You just stared at the blue screen with a look of pure confusion and horror, not quite understanding the words the screen just said. "What?" you asked once again, still not fully comprehending the situation." run that by me again?"
You questioned while rubbing your temples as if to help you wake up from some crazy dream.
The system, whose name is Jin Xian, looked at you nervously before explaining once more.
You took a deep breath and tried not to lose it."So what you're saying is, there's a bug that's currently hiding in all the manhwas and novels I read for the last few years now and it's probably aiming to kill them all for some unknown reason?"
It hesitates before nodding slowly, "Yeah.. I guess you could put it that way"
"...And you want me to take care of it right?"
"...Y...Yes." It said awkwardly.
"And can I ask why you or whoever you work for haven't done anything about it until now?"
"We tried.." the system answered sadly, "But we just couldn't detect its exact location or even track down where it originally came from. There wasn't anything to pinpoint exactly. But then the people in charge decided that the best course of action was to let us deal with the situation ourselves while they search for another solution, so they decided to send the best world-hoppers to those worlds to try and stop it from spreading, those people are considered the best of the best, all their worlds missions were successful so far with a SSS ranking, of course only the higher ranking systems get those hosts while we low ranking ones have to look for temporary hosts with zero experience." it paused for a moment, before continuing, "So here we are"
It pouted as it said that sentence."Why do I always get stuck with the lowest rank?"
You raised an eyebrow at it." Because you're an idiot, you couldn't even get the right person to be your host, a simple task that should have been easy enough for systems of all rankings and you still failed, no wonder your rank is so low." you snapped in annoyance.
"...That... might be a tad harsh, miss..." it admitted sheepishly. it's been called a lot worse, especially recently, but it still hurt. it might be a robot but it has feelings ok?!
"So now that everything is clear, we need to start moving now! The more time we waste, the faster the bug will spread."
It was silent for a moment before you gave the cheerful Xian a small smile.
"No."
You stated with finality.
"...what?" the system replied in confusion." What do you mean no?"
"Look, as much as I want to meet the characters and go through the quests to get to the bug's location I can't, I have a life here and I'm guessing this mission of yours is gonna be pretty dangerous right?" you gave it a stern stare."So I'm sorry, but I like being alive and I'm not gonna risk it for some fantasy."
"But... but mis-" it attempted to explain, desperate to convince you, "You can't just-"it tried to speak, only to be cut off.
"This mission needs someone intelligent and dedicated, and I assure you I'm neither of these things." You continued to reason, ignoring the obvious pleading tone of your companion. You chuckled, giving the poor thing a comforting smile before continuing."tell you what, I'll pretend that all that happened today was a terrific fever dream and you'll go and look for an actual host that suits you, how about that?"
"But-!"
"Goodbye~! Have a good hunt!" you said as you grabbed it and throw it out the window and closed it shut."I wish you luck!" the room fell into silence again, only the whirring sound of the air conditioning filling the room.
You sighed in relief." Finally." you said, ready to forget the shit that just happened.
"I'm afraid I can't let you do that, my dear host." a cold voice sounded from behind you as a chill run down your spine.
'Fuck.'

You ever write something really late at night, post it, and then by morning completely forget you did it but now you have a few comments and kudos on it?
