Mommy and Daddy's Little Panda Cub
CGs! Ming and Jin Lee and Regressor! Mei Lee 🍼
Plot: It's Mei's bedtime. Little scholars need their rest, after all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was a peaceful, yet cold winter night in Toronto. It was also raining. Raindrops made pitter-patter sounds on Mei's bedroom window. Ming had just finished giving her daughter a bubble bath and dressing her in a pair of soft, warm footie pajamas. She was now sitting in Mei's bed, cradling Mei in her lap as if she were a baby again and feeding her a warm bottle of angel milk that Jin had just prepared.
Mei had an eventful couple of days, filled with finals before winter break and getting her first period (for real this time), which happened on her final test of the semester. She powered through and aced her exams with flying colors. Now, she had regressed and was healing from her period, thanks to her parents' TLC (tender loving care).
"Are you feeling better, baby?" Ming asked softly.
Mei nodded and cooed behind her bottle. Ming smiled at this and stroked her daughter's red hair.
"Mommy wants you to know that she and your daddy are very proud of you. You're an amazing little cub, and we love you, no matter what or who you become."
Mei snuggled to Ming's shoulder as she drank her bottle. She rubbed her eyes and yawned, signaling that she was ready to go nini.
Jin walked into the bedroom with Mei's stuffed dog, Wilfred, and a pink, satin-trimmed chenille blanket. He had put them in the dryer to make them warm and toasty. He handed Mei the items, who cooed as her way of saying thanks.
Jin sat down next to Ming and kissed her cheek. Ming kissed Jin's cheek in return. She then kissed Mei's forehead as she finished the bottle.
Mei whimpered and whined after Ming removed the empty bottle from her mouth. Ming softly shushed and cooed as she replaced the bottle with a pacifier that was resting on Mei's bedside table. Mei calmed down as she suckled on the soother.
Ming rested Mei's head on the pillow and tucked her in. Mei snuggled Wilfred and her blankie in her arms as Jin turned off the lights and turned on her nightlight. He and Ming kissed Mei's forehead and whispered goodnight as they left the room.
Mei fell asleep, warm and safe from the cold winter's night.

Can you do Caregivers Ming and Jin and Regressor Mei (Turning Red) headcanons?
ohhh this is a fun one
-Okay so originally Mei starts regressing alone. She loves her mother dearly but knows that if Ming ever found out it would end in more trouble than it's worth. A hundred questions about where she went wrong and if she's a bad mother and if her daughter's okay what's causing her to need this kind of coping mechanism. Put simply, a huge mess. -So for about 6 months she slowly starts regressing more and more in the comfort of her bedroom, behind a locked door. Her friends catch on pretty soon (about 3 months in) that Mei sometimes gets in these 'Childish moods' where she's a bit more giggly and carefree, but they don't think much of it. If anything, they're glad to see her happier and to know that she isn't as stressed as they'd be in her position.
-After catching her biting through one too many pens and even her lips or nails, they order her some chewable jewelry for her birthday. They're not the pastel water-filled teether her little side longed for but she loved and appreciated them nonetheless. Happy to have something 'safe' to chew on!
-And then one day, she makes a mistake. After getting up to go brush her teeth before bed, she forgets to lock her door. So, of course, tonight just has to be the night her father decides he wants to say goodnight to her before bed and in walks Jin, who's met with his daughter cuddled under the blanks watching Ni Hao Kai Lan with a bright red pacifier in her mouth and stars in her eyes. And Jin can't help the way his heart absolutely swells, seeing his normally too big, too busy, too burden laden little girl so soft and happy. But the stars are quickly replaced by tears as fear pools in Mei, she spits out the pacifier with haste and a trace of disgust, her body physically shaking with the intensity of her sobs.
Jin doesn't waste a second in running to comfort her. Reassuring her that he's not mad or upset in the slightest, even offering the pacifier back to her, which she adamantly declines. After a few minutes, she calms down and he tucks her in to bed, pressing a kiss to her forehead and wishing her sweet dreams.
The next morning, Jin's presented with an entire power point slideshow on age regression, the ups and downs the ins and outs, everything there is to know about it and then some. And Mei gains her very first Caregiver.
Jin respects his daughter's decision to not tell her mother and agrees to keep the secret as long as it isn't hurting either party!
-Jin's a playful and lenient caregiver. It turns out to be surprisingly easy to find time for the two of them to be alone without fear of Ming intruding, and when they do Mei always has tons of fun. Sometimes it's baking something in the kitchen, sometimes it's watching a movie, sometimes it's digging up old toys out of the garage. Mei finds it difficult to regress the first few times, sill a bit fearful of being so venerable outside of her locked bedroom, but once she gets familiar she regresses harder than ever. And Jin is always more than happy to get to take care of his little girl all over again. -It only takes a month of regressing with Jin for little Mei to miss her mom/mama/mommy
(I think her nickname would change based on Mei's headspace age. Mom 10+, Mama 5-10, Mommy <5. But it's totally up to you!)
Jin is absolutely heartbroken when little Mei starts asking for Ming, an he's not sure how to explain to her why she's not allowed to see her, so he normally tells her something about her mom being busy with work, etc. About a week after this starts, Mei comes to him asking for his help to tell Ming.
Together they set up a modified powerpoint on Agere and tell her on a Friday night, so that she has time to process it all.
-Ming's more than a bit apprehensive at first, but Jin being there really helped. She was a bit upset that he found out first, but when she took a second to think about her initial reaction she understood why Mei went to Jin first.
They start off Saturday with a little morning, Mei's in a WAY bigger headspace than normal because she's still a bit afraid, but Ming slips into caregiver mode surprisingly easily. She manages to be this perfect balance of cautious and caring, without being condescending. By the time Breakfast is over Mei is practically in babyspace, and she's attached to her mother's hip. Constantly holding onto her hand or arm. Very touchy/cuddly.
-Once Ming gets familiar with it, she support's Mei's regression wholeheartedly, even scheduling little days every weekend on her calendar. She and Jin take turns looking after Mei, but Mei's favorites are days/nights where both her parents are free to take care of her. She especially loves movie nights with ice cream and cuddles and lots of popcorn! Uhhh specific cg headcanons bc I'm not sure if the above is what you asked for <///3 Jin - Again, super playful and lenient. Mei can basically puppy dog eyes him into letting her so just about anything. Extra cookie? Later bedtime? Help packing up toys? You name it, she can get away with it. Jin really doesn't mind and Mei hardly takes advantage of that.
Because he loves to cook, he sets up lots of simple treats they can make together. Usually heatless and quick silly snacks, he's really good about picking things suitable for Mei's headspace! He's got 'a thousand and one' tiny bowls and dishes (according to Mei) for prepping ingredients to make things easier. Mei especially likes their mini cheesecakes! Super into playing along with games and things. (Think Bandit Heeler/Bluey's dad if you've seen Bluey! )
Ming -'Strict' but not really. Like very much the more logical and rule oriented of the two (her and Jin) but still very much willing to bend and break rules for a good teary eyed pout. Super cuddly and touchy with Mei (who absolutely loves it). Very sweet, and unfairly good at babying Mei and making her feel absolutely itty bitty. (She and Jin have little 'competitions' about who can make her regress smaller)
She spoils her baby and she's proud of it. Mei just has to mention something she wants more than two times and consider it purchased. Jin can't even be mad at her for it. Mei's face just absolutely lights up every single time. She's giggling and clapping and bouncing. Her whole body just bubbles up with joy! And it's never something expensive either, everything she wants is less than 10$ usually less than 5$ even.

The Turning Red 9/11 review is probably old news at this point but I’m really fucking angry tonight and need to blow off some steam, so I am finally breaking my silence on this matter, because there is so much I need to scream about.
This is not in any particular order because I just don’t fucking care, so bear with me as we sift through what is possibly the angriest post I will ever make on this hellsite.
“Boy bands were on the way out”
Bullshit. I was born in 2004, and let me tell you, boy bands were absolutely still in during the late 2000s and into the 2010s (Inside Out, another Pixar film released in 2015, directly states the main character likes boy bands at the end). Even ignoring the obvious example of One Direction, there were pop groups like Big Time Rush, punk groups like Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, and today, we have K-pop groups like BTS. In fact, there is literally a member of 4*Town directly based on a member of BTS.
Tumblr media
See that? That’s a breathing reminder that boy bands are still popular and that your point is literally false.
“This strange adult trying to completely obscure their appearance, carrying a box”
1. The only thing different about Ming’s appearance in that scene is that she’s wearing sunglasses, which is something the Aunties do later in the film when they are doing the opposite of obscuring their appearances, 2. Ming has a child in the school (who’s in Grade 8, so she’s been there for three years), so they would absolutely recognize a child’s parent, especially one as overprotective as Ming, and 3. What box? It was hidden in her purse, out of sight of the security man. Even then, the box is very obviously a box of menstrual pads, and not something that would raise suspicion.
Tumblr media
Gee, I sure do wonder who that is...
“I bring {9/11} up because it radically altered the culture of the time”
Then how come I didn’t learn about it until I was 12, in 2016, when the 2000s were over? By the way, I see you showing a Muslim character on screen when you start bringing up a terrorist attack that sparked a huge wave of Islamophobia that still hasn’t stopped today. Real classy there.
Tumblr media
That poor woman. She didn’t deserve this shit.
“The dad has two words throughout the whole thing, then near the end he decides to become an actual character”
THE MOVIE IS NOT ABOUT JIN! THE POINT IS THAT THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE MOTHERS AND DAUGTHERS ARE STRAINED AND NEED TO BE FIXED! JIN IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE A SMALL PRESENCE BECAUSE HE IS LARGELY UNINVOLVED IN THE PROBLEM!
You’re just mad that Jin didn’t have a larger role because he’s a man, aren’t you. This whole fucking video reeks of misogyny.
“Anime was a more niche thing”
More bullshit! Anime like Pokemon, Dragon Ball, and Sailor Moon (a major influence on the movie) became popular in North America during the 90s, and exploded in popularity in the 2000s! The early 2000s were also around the time that anime-style effects became more common in Western cartoons (see: Teen Titans 2003). Anime was more of a flavour of the decade than fucking 9/11!
Tumblr media
See? Stacy understands the assignment. Why don’t you?
“(literally anything he says about Ming, take your pick)”
You clearly do not understand the point of the term “exaggeration for comedic effect”. The point of scenes like the school scene and the Daisy Mart is that Ming is overreacting, and it’s causing a rift between her and Mei that needs to be resolved before the movie’s conclusion.
Also, the way you word things makes it sound like Ming went to the Daisy Mart for Devon’s sake. She didn’t go because she wanted Devon to know that her daughter was drawing suggestive fanart of him, she went because she suspected someone she thought was a grown-ass adult was hitting on her 13 year old daughter. In what fucking world is Ming not justified to be pissed off at the idea that a 30 year old was trying to fuck around with her minor child? (Doesn’t mean it was right for her to shout at him, just saying I totally understand her mama bear rage)
“blah blah blah Disney selling your values back to you, yadda yadda rainbow capitalism, what the fuck ever, I don’t fucking care anymore”
This is where it becomes blatant that this review was written by a white man. Turning Red is important because it’s the first time a woman (a woman of colour too, no less) was able to direct a Pixar movie and not have that credit stripped from her and given to a man (ahem, Brave). It’s the first time a girl of colour has stepped into the spotlight in a Pixar movie. It’s the first time in God knows who long that I’ve watched a movie about a girl and really felt like it was truly about a girl. So many girls and women, of colour or not, felt seen by this movie, and it’s coming from Pixar, a company that previously had staggeringly poor treatment of women and POC. If this movie is not proof of how far Pixar has come, and isn’t a goddamn accomplishment, then I don’t know what is.
Braceface is irrelevant because that show has nothing at all to do with Turning Red besides the two shows both starring teenage girls in early 2000s Canada. Turning Red talking about periods is just as important as Braceface talking about periods, because in case you couldn’t tell from the backlash this movie got, periods (and female puberty in general) are still something that a lot of people feel shame about, and it absolutely must be normalized. By the way, a lot of episodes of Braceface (not the one mentioned in the review, but a lot of others and even the entire third season), as well as a few episodes of 6teen, which started airing a few years later, were banned in the US because they talked about heavier subjects (which included elements of female puberty, adolescence, and yes, periods), so your point about being “dArInG” is also irrelevant, because when cartoons in that time period tried to “be daring” (a.k.a be realistic to a teenager’s life), they were very quickly shut down, or at least received major controversy.
This entire video was a disaster. It’s truly broken me. Turning Red was not the most perfect movie ever, but god DAMN I feel sorry for Domee Shi and her crew for having to put up with all of the shit their work has been receiving.
Thank you and good night. I’ll be jamming to 4*Town in the corner, if you don’t mind.

I originally didn't plan on watching this movie. I saw people prematurely memeing on it long before it even released, and because I had no prior experience with it, I quickly adapted a similar mindset. Then one day I saw a post on here, showcasing some of the gorgeous backgrounds from Turning Red, which got me thinking that maybe I SHOULD give this movie a shot. If anything, I knew I would end up liking the backgrounds and overall setting of the movie.
Sat down in late March to finally watch it...and cried fat salty tears multiple times. Excellent movie, much approve. 10/10
Anyway, I really wish we had gotten to see a little more of Jin and Ming's relationship. I LOVED the scene where he sits down with Mei before the ceremony and tells her about Ming's panda. I also really love how Jin is the one who goes to calm down Ming when Mei escapes from her panda banishing ritual. You can really tell their personalities complement each other.

Hey! What's the agere/caregiver headcannon for Jin Lee? He's my favorite turning red character, and I feel like he would be very kind :]
Tumblr media
Caregiver! Jin Lee (Turning Red) Headcanons
Jin is one of the sweetest gentle giants you will ever meet!
He will cook your favorite foods.
He is very empathetic and will listen to you if you ever wanted to talk about something.
He will give you the biggest hugs if you want one. He will even carry you on his hip and let you rest your head on his shoulder.
His voice is very soft. He will never yell or raise his voice, nor reprimand you if you make a mistake or a mess.
He has a calm-down corner filled with calming activities (feelings chart, books, toys, deep breathing techniques) if you have trouble regulating your emotions.
He will put your stuffies or blankies in the dryer to ensure that they are warm and soft enough to cuddle with.
