Ugigiugi and Tracing

Hello Twst Fandom! I’ve been silently paying attention to the drama around the Ugigiugi situation and wanted to add in something in regards into this topic.

I had to take some time to track down a particular comic, but I do have proof Ugigiugi has traced from another artist i followed on Pixiv. Bear in mind this artist also posted their art collection a month before Ugigiugi made one of her comics. I’ll be sourcing the Pixiv comic below and showing the panels that obviously have a been traced.

As you can see I pulled Ugigiugi’s and the Pixiv’s comic panels to show where the tracing is. The believe this all speaks for itself.

As an artist myself I’m going to state this very bluntly. You should not be copying/tracing someone else's drawings/comics for your own art. This goes for everyone. Older or younger; or even if they post on other social media websites. Tracing and posting things you originally didn’t create shows a level of dishonesty within the community. I checked Ugigiugi’s Pixiv account out of curiosity and a lot of her traced art isn’t hosted there. I can only hypothesize either it was once hosted on Pixiv at a point (possibly reported/taken off???), or she never posted on that website because she’s probably copied from artists there and didn’t want to get in trouble yet went ahead and posted to other social media sites for attention. (  T_T) It should go without saying that Ugigiugi appears to a chronic tracer. I have checked her DA posts and other SM posts but she has never given any artist notes on her submissions about admitting to using references, bases or even if people have “inspired” her with proper links on her traced art submissions. She just submits stuff with little description. There no shame in admitting you use references, game references or even doll bases or use tracing for the sake of learning (and only learning); that being said, giving your resources proper credit is necessary if your going to be using someones else resource for your drawing. But, it’s pretty clear Ugigiugi isn’t looking to even be an honest fanartist. Some of the artist that she has traced appear to be Japanese or of a different country and they may not have a Tumblr/Twitter/DeviantArt or enjoy interacting outside their local language websites. They might not even know their stuff is being traced which us why I am going to go ahead and link two more posts with fanart tracing for references. Don't harass the artist but don't continue to support her content! If you can find the original artists she’s copied from on other art peices and can send some form of notification to let them know Ugigiugi traced them. Giving the amount of evidence that keeps showing up it’s pretty concerning how much she’s stolen and it brings to question if any of her art is legit or if it is mostly traced or pure resources that she won’t credit.   (<x<’  )  I haven’t even seen her acknowledge all of this tracing or make a public statement either. It also begs the question of if she’s just going to continue to trace things, and if so; who else’s stuff is going to be traced next? Either way, if people continue to find more evidence or find the artist she’s copied please be mindful enough to help the original artists and not tolerate tracers or any type of plagiarism within the fandom space. Went on google search, typed in 'Ugigiugi' just to analysis her tracing again, and accidental found her ancient Egyptian Mythos art. Apparently either Ugigugi or someone else relogged them on Pinterest and because of that they are now forever frozen there as a memory of a person who is no longer on the internet (and thank god for that).

I was happy to actually find these because I genuinely need to see what these looked like, as when looking at the tracing PDF file that @/Twistedpometea made and seeing a few select of the Egyptian mythos art there, I noticed that if you go to her Deviantart (the only social media she has left) the Ancient Egyptian stuff was the only thing that was completely 100% deleted. you can't find any of the art for it other than on google.

Moving on to an actual topic, while looking at this art wise, not only can you tell that a mass majority of this art is traces of Leona from Twisted wonderland, but the designs are straight up nearly stolen from the Webtoon Ennead (Another place she also traced from in a few of her works). Her Seth is literally a hybrid of the Ennead Seth and Leona from TWST mixed together to make some hybrid child.

I'm assuming she decided to make this "beautiful' decision so that she can easily trace fanart of both Leona and Seth instead of actually have to draw anything at all from scratch.

Anyway, thought this was interesting because my closing suspicion of her possible being homophobic keeps growing because this is apart of the several pieces of work were she replaced a male character in a MalexMale relationship (whether its fanart or official original art) with her female self insert to serve a heterosexual perspective. This time being a more sever case.

If no ones ever read 'Ennead' it is strictly considered a boy love story. Seth (god of war in Egyptian mythos) is seen having several romantic and sexual relationship with men. Specifically the god Horus. Its-- the story is a lot, but the main point is that this series doesn't have many hetro elements to it.

In Ugigugi's version she keeps Seth, gives him Leona's personality (kind of), and then replaces Horus with her Self insert Julia. The stories are nearly the same from what I can gather and all she did was erase the more graphic and horrid parts of the story to create a more fluffy 'gentle' perspective of the relationship. Almost in a way to spite the Ennead version of the story which has a much darker storyline to it.

Funniest part of this all? She's drawn Ennead fanart before so I genuinely do not get why she thought she was going to get away with this.

(LMAO love how in these pieces to not make it clear that she took heavy, and I mean HEAVY inspiration, from Ennead she just changed the art style. Just because the designs [which were probably also taken from other sources] are different doesn't mean that the tracing of the characters aren't obvious)

Now the only thing I want to know is why she mass deleted all of the Egyptian artwork she did and not the obviously traced Twisted Wonderland work that's still on her DeviantArt. is the author of Ennead more threatening with copyright striking? Was the universe she created actually co owned with another user and the other didn't want to participate anymore after realizing she was a tracer? Was she accused of something like racism ? Its odd for sure. if anyone knows comment or reblog because I think its really strange.

(also in the process of making this I found more of her ancient Egyptian mythology art so will make another post. Apparently its being sold on those weird scam sites that sell things for expensive prices. Apparent they think many of this work is worth 24USD. )

ANYWAYS! What I wanted to say is...

Imagine how cool would it be for we to have an event in the Coral Sea and actually see stuff like different merfolk species having different cultures and societal norms?

Morays mate for life, and can mate between 2 males and 1 female, so it could happen that Mer-eels have a common occurrence of polyamory and a low divorce rate compared to some other species of merfolk.

There is also something about mershark. Imagine how other merfolk react to them? Maybe different from what happened to Azul, where he was bullied, mershark are isolated from being "intimidating" (this is lore of a test oc of mine)

This is mostly a great excuse for us to get cards of Jade and Floyd in their mer-eel form, and if we are lucky, maybe we could get some other characters getting transformation potions and they would end up looking like merfolk of the nicknames Floyd gives them?

I mean, CMON VIL WOULD BE GORGEOUS WITH A BETTA FISH TAIL

Or even, imagine we get the contrast of a a happy Octo-mer Lilia (flapjack octopus) compared to Azul, who doesn't like his merform?

If I didn't have so many projects already like requests, my Hc arts and posts, etc etc, I would actually make fake cards for this... Maybe I'll do them in my free time, who knows. I'll give y'all updates.

Why Leona and Vil get treated differently – and why not everything is always about race

Yeah yeah, it’s been a long time since this discourse happened... not. Because apparently we’re beating this horse even after it’s deader than Cater’s clones. Somehow this stupid conversation keeps getting rekindled over and over and over and over again, and I’m just so tired so I’m just gonna put my thoughts down so that the next time I get caught up in it, I’ll have this post at the ready. Read at your own risk, this may trigger some people, especially those who claim the only reason anyone would ever dislike Leona is his skin color and not, you know, everything he does.

Leona’s murder attempt was pre-meditated. Unlike Vil, Leona spent quite a long time planning out everything he did in episode 2. He made sure the injuries happened in a way that couldn’t be linked back to him and that nobody could see Ruggie while he was using his unique magic. When it came to the actual murder, he even made a deal with Azul to ensure the event venue was set up in a certain way and that Ruggie got a potion to boost his magic before the whole thing started. Vil, on the other hand, snapped under momentary pressure, and didn’t spend weeks planning how to murder a rival over a competition.

Leona was ready to go through with it. I see a lot of people conveniently ignoring this but someone actually did die during Leona’s murder attempt – Cater’s clones did. Now, whether or not clone lives count as actual lives is irrelevant at the moment because all that matters is that Leona didn’t stop until there were bodies on the ground. Remember he watched the whole thing. He knew what was going on and when to stop. On the other hand, Vil immediately stopped the second a new element was introduced that snapped him out of whatever he was going on. Which brings me to my next point.

Leona acted with full clarity. Unlike Vil, Leona was fully in control the whole time. Vil was in a haze of reliving his past trauma, a haze that he snapped out of the second someone other than his target spoke to him. Leona, while motivated by past trauma, was fully in control of his actions.

Leona never showed any growth. This may be a controversial point for some people. And I understand that Leona is older than most of the other characters, however that does not make him stubbornly refusing to admit he did anything wrong any less jarring. Everyone showed tangible visible growth after their overblot, except Leona.

We are clear on what Leona wanted. With Vil, we never got a clear-cut confirmation that he was out for blood. We know something unsavory would’ve happened to Neige if he drank the apple juice, but truth is, it was never explicitly stated that he would die (if it was in EN, then just chuck that on the pile of things EN ruined). People just jumped to assuming murder because that’s what we’ve seen before and because Vil is associated with poinsons.

And when it comes to how their attempts were handled in-universe, let’s take a look at that.

Leona got called out by Lilia. It was vicious and rude, yes. Was it racist of Lilia to tear into Leona? No. No part of Lilia’s insults had to do with Leona’s race. He compared Leona with Malleus and evaluated which one of them has a personality more suited for a leader – the answer should be clear if you consider which one of them committed murder over a sports contest. This was also after Leona attempted to murder Lilia’s son, his son’s best friend, and a person he’s been taking care of for decades, or possibly even longer. Leona is lucky Lilia is no longer in his general days otherwise he’d likely be made into a throwrug, how handsome is up to your personal tastes. However, Leona’s call-out ended there with no further consequences other than being disqualified from the contest.

Vil got called out by nearly the entirety of the VDC group. Granted, it wasn’t that vicious or rude, but that’s because it didn’t get personal with anyone. Had he killed Neige, it wouldn’t personally affect any of the VDC group members. While Rook is a huge fan of Neige’s, that’s as far as it goes. However, Vil had lasting consequences from this lapse of judgement. You can find my full analysis of that mess here. That alone makes fans less eager to harp on him, since it at least feels like he got what he deserved – or possibly even more – while Leona gets to walk free with one verbal scolding.

Lastly, if you’re here to tell me to kms or harass me, do us both a favor and just click block and hide. I’ve got enough of that to the point where I just roll my eyes and block you back without it really affecting me. You’re just wasting your time as well as mine. You can think Lilia calling out Leona for murder was racist but at that point, you’re just willing to use skin color as a free get out of consequences card, and I have no desire to talk to people like that.

If you agree, feel free to share, if you’d like to respectfully debate, I’m 100% down for that too, just know that I tend to be pretty stubborn😅

Edit: If you are here to talk about wider fandom treatment of dark-skinned characters, that isn't what this post is about so please just make your own. This post is about a specific situation. Of course, there will always be bad people who judge people and characters based on skin color, but let's not act like everyone who dislikes Leona does so for those reasons. There's plenty of differences between his and Vil's situation that can make people like one and dislike the other without being racially charged. THAT is the point of this post.

I hate doing this kind of thing, but here goes. I’m just getting annoyed that this is constantly happening now.

Seeing the tag get filled up with the female mc vs male mc discourse is getting really annoying. I get people want a female mc for the anime, but to say that “there are more story possibilities with a female mc than male mc” comes across as alienating and excluding. It just rubs me the wrong way. Story plots can be done with male or female mc. It wouldn’t be much different aside from the MC’s appearance. Having one gender doesn’t make it so that there are more or less story ideas. It would be the same either way with minor tweaks to it.

And the “The people against having a female mc for twst have a cult mindset.” thing also feels wrong. It kind of feels like people are being villainized for liking the idea of having a male mc. You may think that by praising and promoting the idea of female mc is great, but being so pushy about it can turn people away from the idea. For some people, having something constantly pushed in their faces makes them less inclined to support it. You can promote the idea of having a female mc without putting down the idea of having a male mc.

As many people have suggested, why can’t we just have MC be represented by a shrimp plushie? It would solve this whole gender debate since plushies are plushies and don’t have a set gender. Plus many people already represent mc with a shrimp. MC of the game is gender neutral, so the plushie could be a good representation of MC. It would be kind of cute.

IMPORTANT NOTE!!!: A number of Japanese artist we have sourced her traced images from do have a rule of “no reproduction/posting/tracing in their social media Bios. Ugigiugi has not only traced from them but has violated their rules in doing so! I’ve asked a friend of mine to reach out to one of the artists on our behalf and explain the situation that's going on. We’ve also compiled sources for them as well as the DMCA/Copyright links in case they wanted to take action. In the meantime I’m going to repeat my rules from my last post. Remeber! Warning for new TWST fans about a possibly dangerous person that's rejoined the fandom

A specific user has decided to crawl back out of the sewer and rejoin the fandom. Of course, everyone is free to follow and interact with whoever they'd like, but as a warning please be weary of @octavinelle-mafia (and her main bittersweet-faerietales). I'd personally suggest just blocking and being done with it as she's got a WELL DOCUMENTED history of manipulation, predatory behavior, guilt tripping, exposing IRL minors to NSFW scenarios/headcanons/edits, etc, harassing and bullying people with similar traits to her OC (like similar socks or hairstyles), and tracking who visits her blog and follows/unfollows. The list is quite literally endless, if you want more info feel free to check my tag "gravedigging" and there's hundreds of posts that cover it. This all originally happened in autumn 2020 so it's been a hot minute, but from what I dug up, twst is the third fandom that this sort of behavior has been present in since at LEAST 2015.

Ranting about discourse (Diasomnia uniforms)

Out of all circus, that we as a fandom, experienced for 2 days straight I would like to emphasize on 2 specific points.

First will be uniforms themselves. I can safely assume,that uniforms inspired by military uniforms. The uniforms that were worn not only by n@zis, but America, Britain, USSR, Japan. Here is an example:

So either you gonna tell me that all of those countries are n@zis at this period in time or you would assume, that this is just a military uniform. The difference between n@zis and other military soldiers were in it's symbolic a.k.a swastika. Do you see any symbolism for n@zis.....No? Then it is likely just a military uniform.

Translation is a very serious and careful process. If you mess up, you will get twst discourse. Anyway, here at least two translations about Diasomnia section from two different translators before this whole mess.

The translator, who messed up in the first place already apologized for mistranslation, therefore zero issues there.

Now, towards the thing, that really pissed me off. Btw I am going to talk not only to the OP, but also people who supported misinformation and did nothing to redeem themselves in public eye.

First of all, "could be a translation mistake", it is a translation mistake. The OP of the translation admitted to it and apologized. As a bilingual person, I understand people can make multiple mistakes in translation.

Next about intentions..... It is ironic. The fact that you and your peers misinterpreted Yana's intentions and spread around misinformation, got flack for it and now sitting here crying how people misinterpreted your intentions. You talking about "educating people" and "we are not here for a clout", then why didn't you check everything before throwing around n@zi claim? Why did you never ask yourself "wow this book is 2 years old, there certainly some translations out there besides the one on reddit"? Why did you follow the advice your peers gave everyone else and "do your research"? By spreading misinformation citing one screenshot and running around the platforms like Neanderthal you not only destroying your credibility, but also making yourself and everyone else who believed it look like a joke. In order to inform someone you check the resources and making sure you are correct about the information you are presenting to the public. Even at the end of the post, you have an audacity to question whether or not it was a mistake, by saying "could be". This post is a pure deflection of responsibility for your actions, because you had a morally high cause. If you truly cared about educating people of social issues, if you truly give a crap about people that are victims of these caricatures, you would get it right the first time. You would do the right thing by checking around with other translators and their take on Yana's interview. You would talk to bilingual/native Japanese speakers. Each time you post about social issues, you need to make it count. In order for people to read and listen to you, you need to cite more than one resource. Nobody should give a shit about your intentions, when your actions shows how fast your are to believe what one person says.

Also in hashtags "people doxxed a minor for fuck sake do you think this is a problem".... what???

This is exactly why people are going to trust you less and your credibility will go down in shambles. You make a shocking statement with no proof, hoping that people would believe you and gloss over all the deflection in the latter half of your post. Who is the minor? Is it op translator? If it is not then as much of a bad news it is, it doesn't revolve about situation at hand. Situation being: you and your peers deflecting and not saying "yes I fucked up by not checking the translation, I promise I will be more careful with information given by translators". How high you actually are on that moral horse? Is it difficult? Why you cannot admit that you fuck up? Why you blaming everyone else for misunderstanding your intentions? What else people are suppose to believe, when group of people, that know nothing in Japanese going around claiming Diasomnia uniform are inspired by n@zis? That you trying to educate??? Moreover, when actual Japanese speaking people trying to correct you, you throw away that screenshot and bunch of n@zi's pictures claiming they are in the wrong. How do you function??? How about I give you advice on how to receive information, since your language/history teacher didn't taught you, or you were just sleeping in class.

Here the issue with all this situation. Inability to evaluate the information with letting your emotions to rule your actions. I sincerely hope you either change your methods of analyzing information or nobody will go to you for protection purposes. Personally, I wouldn't leave my toothbrush under your protection.

By The Way, did you know the reason why they changed exotic is either from JP community backlash or people at Disney explaining the problems with the word. Just saying, you posting on Tumblr/Twitter will do nothing to change Diasomnia uniforms. The basic premise was and is a royal/imperial guards. There wasn't and isn't anything problematic with it. So either make a wave in JP Fandom or stop dreaming.

The English-speaking twst fandom is so weird. They claim to be against racism but look at what they've criticized so far:

Middle-east-inspired outfits that actual middle-eastern people said looked great

Japanese-inspired outfits (multiple times)

African-inspired outfits based on the Lion King Broadway musical

Here's what they didn't criticize and make a big drama about:

Replacement of cultural meals with western slightly similar alternatives

Erasure of queer content

Making Jamil's unique into a racist stereotype

Making Jamil's nickname Pyramid

Something isn't adding up here.
