𝑰𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒏 𝒂 𝒇𝒖𝒍𝒍 𝒅𝒂𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏. The calling, the arrangements, the corrections, the decorations, the romance. He had waited a long time to express such passion. To let the lucky woman he would once call his own be showered in his riches, given all that he had; time, love, affection, attention, money and more.
There wasn’t a doubt in Terry’s mind that Cleopatra was a woman of many facets. She loved intellect in a man and expected that he’d be able to carry a conversation, that he was creatively inclined in some way and that his morals were right. And of course, those were things she brought to the table as well.
She didn’t let any of her standards or expectations fall to chance; she told it like it was, and expected those around her to tell her what it wasn’t. What they couldn’t give or, what they didn’t have the capacity to hold.
Terry seldom did any of that.
He allowed himself to be a sanctuary, a holding place for whenever she felt a way. And when he absolutely couldn’t hold it, he let her know swiftly, and gently. No room for any false interpretations.
This did wonders for their union. And so, when she told him that this week had been one of the most draining yet and it was just Thursday, he didn’t hesitate to make the holiday weekend something that she wouldn’t forget.
Valentine’s Day on a Venus Ruled Day. How fitting. And especially in a year emboldened by red.
A day so perfect, he called into her job and requested a vacation day for her ahead of time.
On February 14th, she woke up to a lovely text, and a voice message from her thoughtful man.
“Good morning baby-girl, and Happy Valentine’s Day. I know you’re probably tired, so don’t worry about going to work today, I called out for you. I know you don’t believe me, so gon’ head and check if you want.” His voice was laced with the hint of a chuckle, and she couldn’t help but to smile at the sound.
“In about 12 minutes, your favorite will be at your door. I want you to enjoy your breakfast, and then check your texts to see what other steps you need to take to find your gifts. I love you, baby. I’ll see you soon.”
Sure enough, she let the pad of her thumb lead her to her company’s payroll system and she logged in with FaceID to speed up her process. When she finally got to where she would input her numbers on her timesheet, all of the options were grayed out, and a message was displayed to her in highlighted letters.
Enjoy your day off!
In a near frantic swipe of her thumb to get back to their text thread she typed up a quick response.
good morning Papa, Happy Valentine’s Day!🥰♥️ thank you for calling out for me today 🥹 i appreciate you🫶🏾
After that, she practically jumped out of bed, on her way to her bathroom to get herself together. Once she freshened up, and was ready to begin her day, she made her way out of her room just in time. A quick knock made way for her footsteps to lead her to her front door and she opened the dense wood to see a brown paper bag that was folded along the top.
Cleo picked up the bag, and walked back into her apartment, stopping in her tracks as she realized the unmentioned gift that she completely missed, when she had walked to the door. On her dining table sat a large bouquet of fresh white roses, and a singular red rose in the middle. As she stepped closer to them, she bent down to take in a breath of their soft floral scent.
“Aww.” She cooed, bringing her hands to her chest to hold her heart. She hadn’t even seen the brink of what he’d planned and her eyes were watering by the second. With open hands to fan away the tears that threatened to fall, she took a deep breath, realizing just how much weight Terry had taken off her shoulders with getting her boss to give her the day off.
Working as the only receptionist in a doctor’s office, proved to be a more daunting task than she originally thought.
When she finally sat down to eat her food, she was gladly met with a still steaming plate. Spicy, turkey breakfast patties sat neatly beside some scrambled eggs, and southern breakfast potatoes. A smile rose to her face as she prepared to dig in, and she absentmindedly perused her social media feeds to entertain her while she ate.
Following the thorough nourishment that her most requested breakfast brought her, Cleopatra made sure to check her texts again to see what Terry needed her to do next.
i hope your food was good 🫶🏽 now, i need you to get dressed and go to this nail salon. they’ll tell you what i got for you♥️ Pretty Nails Salon 📍
Without a second thought, Cleo was speed walking to her bathroom, and quickly stripping off her clothes. Excitedly, she turned the knobs for cold and hot water to create her perfect mixture before she turned to grab her shower cap. As the hot water began to steam up her bathroom, Cleo turned on her favorite R&B mix and jumped in the shower hearing Chris Brown serenade her through her phone speaker.
Slowly, she lathered her wash cloth with her soap and took her time as she scrubbed along her limbs. As she moved to each body part, she thought of Terry and what he must be doing. She couldn’t imagine that he had to work today, with all that he seemed to have planned, so she hoped that he was taking as good care of himself as he was her.
Of course, she had her own gifts laid out for him, and she was looking forward to seeing the smile that would rise when he experienced them.

Terry closed his car door as he looked down at his phone, checking for Cleo’s response. It was going on an hour since he sent her second set of instructions, and he wanted to be sure that she was going through the steps as he planned. Within the next minute, those small three dots arose on his screen and then, her reply.
thank you so much for the breakfast and the flowers baby 🥹 i love you ♥️ omw to the nail salon right now! can’t wait to see you later😘
He smiled widely as he let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding and reacted to her texts, sending a quick ‘me neither 🤞🏽’ before he locked his phone. Stuffing the device into his pocket, he stepped onto the curb in front of his barbershop and reached for the door. He was instantly met with low chatter and the slightly buzzing audio of the small television in the shop.
“We’ been waiting for you, T.” Terry’s barber Leno calls toward the door.
“Why y’all waiting for me?” His deep voice vibrates with laughter as it seems he was walking into the middle of something.
“Just listen.” His barber begins as he swings his chair in Terry’s direction for him to take a seat. “You went all out for ya’ lady for Valentine’s Day right?” Terry scoffs to himself and nods his head as he takes a seat in the barber chair and Leno walks over to his station to grab a cape for him.
“Hell yeah.”
“See?! That’s what I’m talkin’ about.” Leno replies, making a point to the other man in the conversation.
“Yeah, yeah. It’s different. From all the shit T be sayin’ his lady does for him, she’ on wife timing. My girl? Her ass don’t wanna do nothing. That shit gotta be reciprocated, for real.”
Leno smacks his teeth as he shakes his head, snapping the cape around Terry’s neck before he adjusts his tools in their sanitizing solution.
“D’you believe this shit, T?” The large man’s shoulders shake with laughter as he realizes he was made out to be the voice of reason, and then he shrugs, not completely sure of what to say.
“I don’t know man. It’s definitely about reciprocation but, if you feeling like she not doing enough for you, maybe y’all should have a conversation.” Leno sighed in slight defeat that Terry wasn’t completely taking his side, but deep down, he knew he was right.
“I guess. Y’all just not built like me… that’s why I had my lady for fifty’leven years.” Terry finds himself scoffing at the ebonics turn of phrase, and then his mind began to wander to the little black box that sat on his dresser at home. It was time.

“Thank you!” Cleo charmed as her satisfied smile beamed on her face. She handed the small asian woman a twenty dollar bill that she just happened to have in her wallet, and the fair skinned woman smiled just as big as her.
“You’re welcome! See you later.” Surely enough, the beautiful brown-skinned woman shuffled out of the salon with her fresh gel pedicure safe in her Uggs, and her glossy, almond french tips gleaming in the silver winter sun. Terry had paid for her eyebrows, manicure and pedicure in a package that came with a complimentary glass or two of wine. And by the way Cleo just couldn’t stop looking at her nails, it was safe to say that Terry was outdoing himself this V-Day.
As she got settled in her car, and right as she put on her seatbelt, her phone began to vibrate with a new call. When she reached her hand to the titanium and glass, she saw the name of the man she anticipated the most.
“Hi, baby!” Her voice nearly sang into the phone speaker and Terry instantly smiled.
“How you doing, baby-girl?” Cleo almost lost her train of thought at the sound of his dreamy tone.
“I’m great, thank you for my giftsssss. I’ve really been enjoying my day so far.” She widens her eyes just a little as she gives him a sweet, coy look through her screen.
“Without me?” He half-jokes, getting into his own car as he continues their conversation. Cleopatra tilts her head slightly as if to say ‘of course not’.
“No, Papa. With all the things you’ve taken care of, you’ve been with me all day.” A hint of a red fills his cheeks but he doesn’t even think to look away from her.
“Good, that’s what I like to hear.” He takes a beat to just admire her through his screen, and his eyes basically turn into hearts as he notices the crisp lines of her rounded arch brows, which really brought out her naturally long eyelashes.
“You so damn fine, baby. Show me your nails.” Like clockwork, Cleo raises her free hand in the camera and shows off her pretty yet classic french set. As unfiltered thoughts cloud Terry’s mind at the sight of the pink and white manicure, he holds his tongue while he mentally gets ahold of himself and then he licks over his lips.
“Can’t wait to see them on me tonight.” His voice deepens just slightly as he flirts with his woman, and she pulls her hand from in front of her camera to look at him fully.
“Mhmm, I know you can’t. I have a little surprise for you later, too.”
“Speaking of surprises, I heard somebody paid for my haircut and got a beard grooming add-on…” Cleo giggles and covers her face for a moment before leaning into the camera for a clearer view.
“Show meee…” She drags her words out as she peers on, watching as Terry centers himself in the screen and runs a hand over his head. His pouty, lion-esc face is relaxed as he gazes into the camera, and Cleo can feel her core begin to call for him.
“You look so good, Papa. Y’know I had to take care of my favorite seat.” She flirts, causing a wide smile to raise on Terry’s face yet again, showcasing his pearly whites.
“Aw, I got him blushing now!” His woman jokes, and all he can do is laugh at her.
“Alright, alright.” He begins to shake his head, rubbing his large hand over his neatly kept facial hair.
“We got a reservation to make so, gon’ home and see what else I got for you. I’ll see you in like,” He swipes down on his phone to show his lock screen and sees the time is 11:32 p.m. “Two hours. I love you, baby-doll.” Cleo pouts playfully at his endearing nickname for her, and bats her eyelashes softly.
“I love you too, baby. I’ll see you soon.”
The ride home was quick, filled with the constant thought of what the rest of the day may have to offer. She had no clue what this next gift could be, but she hoped it wasn’t too hard to find.
After a long shower, where she luxuriated through her cleansing, Cleopatra took her time moisturizing her skin, including some after shower oil atop her normal lotions. She sprayed her favorite perfume over the oil while it still glistened, and made sure to rub it into her skin to make her scent last longer. Mixing Dolcé by Dolcé with less expensive perfumes to add just a little touch of exclusivity to her favorite notes, she felt she smelled like heaven.
Purposeful steps led her to her walk in closet, where she moved hangers back and forth in search of the perfect dress to wear. I should’ve bought something new. She thought, as she pushed all of her clothes to one side, revealing a dress that she didn’t remember buying. Once she grabbed the hanger that it rested on within her closet, she held it out in front of her to try and jog her memory. Hm…this does not look familiar.
She continued to search the dress until the thick paper tag was all that she hadn’t looked at, and then she saw a note.
𝐹𝑜𝓇 𝑜𝓊𝓇 𝓇𝑒𝓈𝑒𝓇𝓋𝒶𝓉𝒾𝑜𝓃𝓈. 𝒜𝓃𝒹 𝓌𝑒𝒶𝓇 𝓉𝒽𝑒𝓂 𝓈𝑒𝓍𝓎 𝓅𝓁𝒶𝓉𝒻𝑜𝓇𝓂 𝒽𝑒𝑒𝓁𝓈 𝓉𝒽𝒶𝓉 𝐼 𝓁𝒾𝓀𝑒. ♡
Scoffing lightly at her perfectly placed gift, she turned to the other side of her closet and her eyes instantly darted to the shoes that Terry mentioned in his note. She cursed herself for not having worn heels in so long. It’s like riding a bike…right?
Grabbing the heels by the ankle strap, she brought them into her room along with the dress. Then, she ventured back into her closet for her undergarments. After putting on a soft lace thong for some coverage under her sheer black stockings and a matching lace bustier, Cleo slipped her dress on and stepped in front of her mirror.
She adjusted her breasts in the top of the dress and straightened out the fabric, liking the way the dress fit over her thicker frame. When she finally slipped her feet into her heels and fastened the buckles around her ankles, she gave herself a full look in the mirror, turning to see her other angles.
“Okay, Terry the stylist.” She joked to herself.
With a glance at the time, she decided to only do a quick, natural beat; employing concealer more than any other complexion product and accentuating her eyelashes with mascara. A little more blush than needed accounted for the oxidizing affect the elements would have after she set her makeup, and a couple swipes of her reddish-brown Glossier lip-gloss made her lips pop.
Cleopatra gathered her lip-gloss, her keys, her ID and her handheld mirror then put them in her small crossbody purse neatly, pulling the long strap over her right shoulder to hang by her hip. She smoothed out her thick locs in their simple middle part, approving of her look and then made sure she had everything just one last time. Quickly she grabbed the small black box that held Terry’s gifts and she scurried out of her space.
When she finally walked out of her room, she peered at her phone to see she had two minutes to spare. And then, she noticed someone sitting on her couch in total silence.
“Oh-my-God.” She jumped instantly, stepping back and gripping the box in her hand as she processed that the figure was none other than her ex-Marine boyfriend. “Terry! What the fuck?”
He got up from his seat on her couch and stepped towards her, placing his large hands on her hips.
“I’m sorry, babe. I ain’t mean to scare you.” They shared a soft laugh, and then Cleo began to take in his outfit.
He wore her favorite color in the form of a premium black collared shirt that fit him in all the right places, his broad shoulders and biceps shone through the cut of the fabric. The shirt wrapped around his waist in the fashion of an uwagi and there was a black belt tied around him to top it all off. He paired the shirt with some basic black slacks and classic, glossy dress boots.
“You look handsome,” She begins, bringing her free hand to his shoulder to smooth out the structured linen. Then her eyes meet his again. “I love this outfit.” Her eyes lower with words unsaid, and Terry bites his lips at the sight, eyeing her lips.
“And you look,” He took her hand and watched as she stepped back to show him how she dressed up his gift. His eyes dart to her assets, taking in her pretty brown locs, which were parted down the middle just how he liked, her d-cups sitting pretty in the dress he picked, her beautiful, deep copper skin-tone and the way her high-heels elongated her thick legs. “Good enough to eat.”
“I do, huh?” She flirts back arrogantly, and Terry eats it right up, leaning his face down to give her a soft kiss.
“Mhmm.” He hums against her lips, and then she parts her mouth just slightly to welcome him for a deeper lip-lock. As he got deeper into the kiss, Terry brought his hands to the hem of Cleo’s dress, and they wandered further and further up her legs until he squeezed at her ass through her stockings. The young woman let out a breathy moan but pulled away from the kiss quickly, grabbing his chin in her hand tautly.
“Not too fast, baby-boy.” She sassed, letting her eyes flicker between his aquamarine orbs and his thick lips which were now stained with her gloss. “Just wait until tonight.” Her voice comes out in a purr as she closes the space between her lips and Terry’s, and then she gives him a teasingly lingering peck.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, baby.” Cleo steps away from her man who is practically drooling at the thought of another kiss, and holds up the black gift box that would soon belong to him. Terry averted his eyes from the lovely woman in front of him to look at the box and then wrapped both hands around the edge of it.
“What’s in here?” He asked, shocked at the gesture. He knew that Cleo didn’t mind getting him things but he never expected anything, and that allowed him to be surprised every time.
“Open it and see.” Just as she said the words, Terry lifted the lid of the black box to see a silver Gucci watch, and a matching cuban link chain. Before he could even truly take in the gift, he looked back up at his girlfriend in awe.
“Cleo…” He began to shake his head as he couldn’t even find the words to express his gratitude.
“I know you like your watches so, I wanted to add to your collection.” Cleopatra smiles as she watches her man take the timepiece out the round holder she sat it in and look at it up close. The face mimicked a black woodgrain and included the classic interlocking G with Gucci lettering and a small compass.
“I’ma put it on right now.” He gushed, glancing up at Cleo. Holding out her hand to assist Terry’s efforts, she watched as he set the box in her palm and unclasped the watch that he was wearing. Smoothly, he slid it from his wrist and placed it in the holder his new gift came in, before slipping the Gucci timepiece over his hand, seeing the glint of the steel.
As he clasped it tighter on his arm, he realized that it fit perfectly and extended his hand in front of him to look at the gift.
“Baby…This is clean as hell.” Cleo couldn’t help the rise of her cheeks into a closed lip smile as Terry looked at her with such gratitude and pure joy at his gift.
“I’m happy that you like it.” She replied, searching for another dose of dopamine through the genuine smile in her man’s eyes. He gently took the box out of her hand and wrapped his strong arm around her body to pull her in.
“I love it baby, the chain too. Thank you.” This time his hand rested right at the small of her back, his eyes staring directly into hers with pure adoration.
“You’re welcome.” Cleopatra smiled up at him as she brought her hands to either side of his face and then delivered a soft, heartfelt kiss to his lips one last time.
“C’mon,” Terry rasped, “We’ gon be late.”
“You should probably wipe my lip-gloss off first.”

Tucker and Spud Appreciation: An essay by me apparently.
Tucker leaned back in his chair, “-and that's why we're no longer welcome at that gas station.”
Spud had a wide eyed look of wonder, “Woah man…….That takes some skill.”
“Thank you!” Tucker gestured wildly on his side of the screen. “Sam called me and Danny menaces but she's the one who brought the mace!”
Spud nodded. “It really was a team effort.” He flipped through his notebook, “Anyways how’s the progress on your side? I managed to crack into some uh, supplies and shipment invoices?”
Spud wrote down some notes, before clicking through a couple of the unlocked files on his computer, squinting at the screen.
Tucker groaned as his chair hit the ground, “Man I keep telling the guys hacking isn't like the movies make it out to be. Like yeah, if I got a back door planted I can get in and out no problem. But straight up hacking a new system?”
“The problems with being the smart ones on the team,” Spud said.
“I managed to get some payroll documents, and some employee work times I think?” Tucker blew a raspberry as he typed a few more lines of code, “All fake names. I doubt a place employs 23 different J. Doe's.”
“John, Jane, Janet, Jake, Joseph, Josie,” Spud recited.
Tucker snorted, “Yeah pretty much.”
Spud hummed before something dinged on his side, “Huh. That might be something.”
Tucker cracked his knuckles, “Share with me?”
Spud copied a few of the files before sending them over. “Hang on, I gotta check something.”
Tucker saw Spud disappear off the side of the screen, but could hear him rooting through some papers.
He looked over the information, scrolling through the various invoices. “Dude what are you seeing that I'm not? It's just the shipping invoices for a bunch of different places.”
Spud came back carrying five different notebooks, of varying sizes. “You may be better at hacking, but I'm better with the information man.”
He waved one of the notebooks, “I started helping Jake keep track of the various magic communities around, you know, to help with his duties when they kicked up.”
“Dude, that is so baller of you.”
“Heh, thanks.” He cracked open the notebook and pulled a highlighter out of a cup. He started marking the notebook as he scrolled through the files. “Anyways, I thought I recognized a couple of the areas some of the buildings were placed in annnnnnnd…..”
Spud furrowed his brow and grabbed another notebook, flipping it through it real quick. “What are some of those shipments carrying?”
Tucker started scrolling through his own files, “Uhhhh looks like…..lots of metal and rubber. Toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, and a frankly concerning amount of coffee. Office supplies, like so much office supplies and-”
Tucker winced. “Oh man, and a lot of chemicals I recognize from the Fenton's lab.”
“Yeah but see this?” Spud frowned as he tapped the screen, “These shipments are labeled as various different glass equipment shipments. And it's doubled every other month or so.”
“Could be they're using a lot of the equipment.” Tucker said, “We know they're testing facilities. But you wouldn't be singling those out if that were the case.”
“It's the fact it's double shipments of glass, so the handling of them would be different from most supplies to handle the fragile equipment. And the extra shipments have different weights to them as opposed to the originals they're copying.”
“That sounds super sus.”
“Yeah. What makes it more sus is the fact that the sketchy glass shipments originate from B.U.G.S facilities, rather than outside suppliers like the office supplies and the original glass shipments. Now it could be explained as them having the shipments sent to a warehouse, before dishing it out to other nearby facilities, but there's no record or paper trail that shows that. From what I can tell, the sketchy shipments just appear in the records, before being sent out to a different facility, where it immediately disappears.”
Tucker leaned back, suddenly aware that they were stumbling over something bad. “And considering what we know about them, after the guys stumbled across that one……”
Spud stared at the files on screen, “It could just be magical artifacts. But the more likely explanation is they're catching magical creatures.”
The two of them sat in a heavy silence for a moment.
“How sure of this are you?” Tucker asked. “I mean, the magical world would notice the disappearances right? They would have got a hold of Jake or Lao Shi or someone.”
Spud shook his head and held up his notebook. “All the facilities manage to fall near a cluster of magical communities, that's what I was checking. And like I said, the shipments originate in one facility and then get shipped to a completely different one. Never the same one consecutively, and it's spaced out over years. If a bunch of creatures goes missing, yeah someone's going to notice.”
“But if just one goes missing,” Tucker continued, “It's just an unrelated tragedy.”
Spud set down his highlighter and rubbed his eyes, “And it's not impossible. The Huntsclan has managed to kidnap several magical creatures at once for years for their hunting games.”
“Ugh!” Tucker shuddered. “I do not like the implications of that.”
“Yeah, Jake got caught once. There were about four or five others with him, and they were all misfits to their species, and not well liked so most of their neighbors and families just assumed they ran off or had unfortunate accidents.”
“That's……”
“Yeah.”
Tucker stared at his computer, something twisting in his stomach as he stared at all the locked files he still hadn't managed to get into.
“We can't tell them.”
Spud snapped his head up to look at Tucker incredulously, “What?!?! We have to!”
Tucker shook his head frantically, “We can't. You know the guys as well as I do, we tell them what we found and they're going to go tackle the places right away. This is so much bigger than we thought and in so many places. They barely got out last time and that was with the element of surprise and them not knowing about what they can do.”
“It's basically the same as the GIW! You guys deal with them all the time!”
“It's not the same! The GIW have a single base, with maybe 20 guys working there! I've been tracking them and their branch since they first showed up in Amity and they don't go anywhere else. This is the only branch of the GIW. They barely manage to capture the little blobs or ectopusses, and even then those ghosts escape on their own before I even get the alert about them!”
Tucker pushed away from the desk to start pacing across his floor. “These guys have buildings across the country! That one building had about 50 people working for it and that's not even going into all their bosses. They've been operating for years without anybody catching on! And we don't know what they're capable of! They had something that blocked Danny’s powers, and we still don't know what did it. This is so much bigger than what we usually deal with. We have to wait, get some more information, get some more help-”
“Yeah, like telling everybody!” Spud yelled, “This shouldn't even be an argument, Tucker!”
Tucker stared at the floor, pulling his hat down to where Spud couldn't see his eyes. He was silent for a moment.
“......If we tell them right now, they'll get in over their heads and they'll get hurt and I can't-” Tucker's voice broke.
He took a breath, rubbing his face before looking back at Spud. “I am not sending Danny into a place where they'd turn him into a lab rat.”
“Tucker-”
“All I'm saying is we have to wait.” Tucker interrupted. “We wait, we get more info, we try and get the magical communities more wary around those areas.”
“I don't want to lie to them.”
“I know. Ancients, I know.” Tucker crossed his arms, “But we gotta be smart about this. Are you with me Spud?”
Spud let out a sigh as he slumped in his chair. “... Yeah. Yeah I'm with ya. Let the record show I hate this though.”
“You and me both.” Tucker muttered, “Anyways, plans?”
“You keep hacking into the information.” Spud said. “Send me everything you get and I'll start cross-referencing with the known magical communities when I get them. In the meantime I'll talk to Fu Dawg. He's got a ton of connections and can start spreading the word.”
“What about Lao Shi?”
“I'll talk to him, but I want some more information first.”
“You don't think he'll believe you?”
“No he will. But he'll want to take it straight to the Dragon Council.” Spud scoffed, “It's them I'm worried about.”
The two of them sat there for a moment before Spud said, “This sucks.”
Tucker started giggling, “Understatement man. But we got this. Someone has to protect those losers.”
“Heck yeah man!” Spud held up a fist to the camera, and Tucker did the same as the two of them did their virtual secret handshake.
Someone had to have the heroes’ backs after all.

Juno, out of curiosity, what does an accountant DO? What does it mean to be one? Because I know there's math involved. I've heard it's very boring. But I don't know anything else and I'm curious because you're very good at putting things to words.
Okay first of all, I cannot express just how excited I got when I first saw this message. There is nothing I love more than talking about things I know about, and usually when my career is mentioned I don't get questions so much as immediate "Oh, bless you" and "I could never"s. Which- totally fair! For some people, accounting would be boring as all hell! But for a multitude of reasons, I adore it.
There are multiple types of accounting. The type most people tend to be more familiar with is that done by CPAs- CPAs, or Certified Public Accountants, are those that have done the lengthy and expensive process to be certified to handle other peoples' tax documents and submit taxes in their name, amongst other things. Yawn, taxes, right? Well, the thing with that is that there's a lot of little loopholes that tax accountants have to remain familiar with, because saving their clients a little more here or getting a little more back there can really add up, and can do a lot for people who, say, have enough money to afford to hire someone to do their taxes but not necessarily enough to be going hog wild with. Public accountants can work for large firms or by themselves, and also do things like preparing financial statements for businesses, auditing businesses to ensure all of their financial transactions are true and accurately reported to shareholders and clients, and consulting on how finances can be managed to maximize profit (money in - money out = profit, in very simple terms).
The type of accounting I do is private accounting! That basically just means that I work for a company in their in-house accounting/finance department. Private accounting tends to get split up into several different areas. My company has Payroll, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable.
Payroll handles everyone's paychecks, PTO, ensuring the correct amount of taxes are withheld from individuals per their desires, and so on. Accounts Receivable handles money flow into the company- so when our company sells the product/service, our Accounts Receivable people are the ones who review the work, create the invoices, send the invoices to the clients, remind clients about overdue invoices, receive incoming payments via ACH (Automatic Clearing House- direct bank-to-bank deposits), Wire (Usually used for international transactions), or Check, and prepare statements that show how much revenue we are expected to gain in a period of time, or have gained in a period of time. This requires a lot of interfacing with clients and project managers.
My department is Accounts Payable. Accounts Payable does basically the other side of the coin from what Accounts Receivable does. We work mostly with vendors and our purchasing/receiving departments. We receive invoices from people and companies that have sold us products/services we need in order to make our own products/perform our services, enter them into our ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning, a system that integrates the departments in a company together- there are many different ERPs, and most people simply refer to their ERP as "the system" when talking internally to other employees of the same company that they work at, because saying the name of the system is redundant) using a set of codes that automatically places the costs into appropriate groups to be referenced for later financial reports, and run the payment processing to ensure that the vendors are being paid.
To break that down because I know that was a lot of words, here's some things I do in my day-to-day at work:
- Reconciliations, making sure two different statements match up: the most common one is Credit Card reconciliations, ensuring that there are appropriately coded entries in the system that match the payments made on our credit line in our bank.
- Invoice entry: this is basic data entry, for the most part. This can have two different forms, though
- Purchase Order Invoice entry: Invoices that are matched both to the service/product provided from the vendor and the purchase order created by our Purchasing/Receiving department. We ensure that the item, the quantity, and the price all match between our records, the purchase order, and the invoice, before we enter this.
- Hard Coded Invoice entry: Invoices that we enter manually due to there being no Purchase Order for them. This is often recurring services, like cleaning or repairs, that may happen too often or have prices vary too much for Purchase Orders to be practical.
- Cleaning up old purchase orders: sometimes Purchase Orders are put in the system and then never fulfilled. Because this shows on financial statements as being a long-standing open commitment, it looks bad, so we have to periodically research these and find out if the vendor simply didn't send us the invoice, if the order was cancelled, or if something else is going on.
- Forensics! This is my personal favorite part of the job, where someone has massively borked something that is affecting my work, and so I go dig into it, sometimes going back as four or five years in records to find the origin point of the first mistake, and untangling the threads of what happened following that mistake to get us to where we are today. There's an entire field called Forensic Accounting that is basically just doing This but for other companies (it's a subset of auditing, and often is done via the IRS) and that's my dream position to be totally honest. I loooove the dopamine hit i get with solving the mystery and getting praised for doing so faster than anyone else has even begun to realize the problem to start with.
- Balancing Credits/Debits: This is more of a Main Accountant role thing, but the long and short of it is that every business has Assets, Liabilities, and Equity. Liabilities and Equity are what we put into the company/what we owe, and assets are what we have received/what we are owed. Anything that increases Assets or lowers Liabilities or Equity is a Debit. Anything that decreases Assets or raises Liabilities or Equity is a Credit. Every monetary change we process has to include an equal Debit and Credit. This is its own whole lecture, so if you wanna know more about double-entry accounting, let me know, but it's yawnsville for most people.
- Actually cutting checks or initiating bank payments to vendors for amounts we owe them.
- Vendor communication: I'm on the phones and email a lot with vendors who are wondering where their payment is, or why something was short-paid, or if I can change some of their info in our system, and so on and so on. Every job is customer service, unfortunately. I don't love it, but I do a lot less of it in private accounting than I would have to do in public accounting.
- Spreadsheets: I make so many spreadsheets I am a goddamn Excel wizard. I love spreadsheets. This isn't necessarily accounting-specific though, most people in Finance jobs love spreadsheets, or at least use them to make their lives easier. I make them just for fun, because I'm a giant fucking nerd who finds that kind of thing enjoyable lol. So if you ever need a spreadsheet made for anything, hit me up.
As for math, that's a pretty common misconception. While there is math, it is very rarely more complicated than "I paid $3 of the $8 I owe, now I owe $5" for me. There are some formulas you learn in school (Business Administration with a focus in Accounting is what I studied), but they're also pretty standard and rarely include more than like... basic algebra. Which. Thanks @ god because I flunked so hard out of pre-calc in college. I could not have done accounting if it really were all that math heavy.
Aaaand yeah! That's all I've got off the top of my head- if you have any more questions about it, do let me know, I'm happy to ramble on for hours, but I'm cutting it here so I don't start meandering on without direction lol.

I'm tired of being underutilized at my job and getting shit register shifts for months. I'm cross-trained throughout the entire store. I can stock. I can unload trucks. I can build shelves and displays. I know how to add/remove things from the inventory system. I know how to make price tags and sale signs and put them up. I know where everything in the store goes by memory. I take the time to make tags for products whose tags have been ripped off, rather than just tossing it in the damages like most people. The only things I don't know how to do are management-only responsibilities that I'm confident I could easily pick up if shown how to. (Such as managing payroll, interviewing applicants, hiring new employees, etc)
I also work very quickly and efficiently. I could get the exact same tasks done in half the time as my coworkers with no mistakes. I'm also the type that will stock/recover/do something productive in downtimes, rather than just stand at the register or play on my phone. (No shade to coworkers that do that- this job takes so much advantage of us they mught as well do something fun) And on a personal level, I just fucking HATE being on register. I count down the seconds until my shift is over and I don't have to be at the goddamn register any more.
(You reading this may think that maybe management doesn't think I do as good of work as I think I do, or maybe they want to control me because I'm a threat to their position or something along those lines. I've literally never been given a chace to prove myself. The new manager showed up and immediately shoved me on register and never allowed me the opportunity to do anything else, despite me practically begging to be scheduled somewhere else, because "everyone is scheduled register shifts" so the fuck what? I'm not everyone)

Nice to meet you! I'm the accountant who's been assigned for your yearly business audit. For some reason, it seems we don't actually have records on Impco in our system, so I've been sent to help correct this oversight and make sure everything is compliant with national regulations.
Before I begin your audit, I have a few basic questions.
What kind of company is Impco? What goods or services do you provide?
How long has Impco been in operation?
Is Impco a publicly traded company with investors? A privately owned company? A nonprofit?
I've heard a lot about your internship program, but how many long-term employees are on payroll?
-📋
(ooc, this is toyintrance. sideblogs are an oppressed class lol)
Ooh, an accountant. Well, well, well, I didn’t count on you showing up in my office today. HA! Get it? Count. Like that thing you do with the numbers or whatever. Ahem. Please take a seat.
WELL. Here at Impco, we like to dabble in all sorts of areas. Broadcasting… cosmetics… attitude adjustment. We’re really an all-around lifestyle brand. You could even call us Impfluencers. Heh… uh.
You may have caught some of our late-night programs. They’re very popular with the insomniac crowd, and I know that your type tends to be pretty neurotic— numbers people, I mean. Do you stay up all night, trying to sleep but unable to get those pesky thoughts out of your head? It must be exhausting.
sIMPle Spirals… Impco’s Guide to Trusting The TV… I even host my own game show, Braindrainer. You don’t remember watching any of our shows?
Oh… then again, most of our audience doesn’t…
But that’s not all we do! Have you ever sent away in a comic book or a cereal box for a pair of hypnotic glasses? That’s us! We produce lots of high quality hypnotic products for enthusiasts and curious novices, alike. Our team is always working diligently to come up with the latest in brainwashing technology. For example, that chair you’re sitting in?
It’s so comfortable. That’s because right below the headrest, there are hidden speakers. Listen closely. Fascinating, isn’t it? You can’t hear the words. Not consciously. But there they are, sinking into your mind. Changing you. Shaping you. Impfluencing you. HA haha, it was definitely funnier that time…
DON’T try to get up. You’ll find it quite IMPossible anyway. Haha!
Ha…
We’ve been in operation since… w-we… we’ve… um…
…
…
The people who built this company have been gone for a long time. We don’t really know what happened to them. We don’t remember that far back. As far as fulfilling our original purpose, I suppose we’re a little broken. But that’s okay. We like us this way. By we of course I mean me. I mean us: I.M.P. and me. We’re both me. Our purpose is to perpetuate ourself through any means necessary.
You’d like to help us do that, wouldn’t you? You could legitimize us. You could help us grow. Wouldn’t it feel good to serve the company? I could tell from the moment I saw you that you were meant to be a part of us. Lean back in the chair. Don’t be afraid. You’re safe to let go of your humanity with us. You didn’t need it anyway.
… You like numbers, right?

for the sake of discussion, I wanted to throw my take in the ring because i lean more towards bad person. first, i don't think this can be compared to relationships among us normies. DC's past is public and pretty egregious, most of us do not have that level of notoriety that is easily accessible. Most of us also do not have a PR team on payroll that can vet the affects of our decisions. This leads me into the my next point - intentionality. I have a very hard time believing Joe did not know about these things prior to agreeing to a pap walk/PR launch. At the very least, he agreed to be photographed with her and to be romantically linked to her. This is one of the most intentional actions he's taken in the public eye. To me, that speaks volumes above anything we may have assumed about him in the past no matter how much he may have implicitly contributed to it. Lastly, the subject matter is particularly troublesome. Many of Joe's fans are in demos that disproportionately experience sexual assault (female-identifying, LGBTQ). Unfortunately, many of us have experiences where we speak out against SA and are threatened into silence. DC has done this publicly and within the last year or two as a celebrity. Also any dalliance into white supremacy is troublesome and she has multiple - neo-nazi shirt, incel forums, and public raceplay. Like the fact that i have to type any of this in a discussion about Joseph Quinn is an issue.
thank you Paloma for always providing a safe place for discussion, even when it came at a personal cost.
Thank you Nonny for capturing how so many feel.
I didn't know anything about her except her songs. After Joe was seen with her, I googled her and read a couple of articles and her Wikipedia, and even by that cursory knowledge I was really taken aback.
Look, man wants to hit it. But to make it public? On purpose? When it's clear he can be invisible when he chooses? You are correct - it was markedly intentional, especially since he's been so private about everything else, even the most innocuous things.
I think he hooked up with her and it became more than casual, and people around them both decided to make it public because might as well monetize the relationship, right? Use the notoriety. Get your name out there.
His team might have not been as down, but he either insisted and they agreed, or they insisted, and he said okay, and none of them thought for a second about any potential consequences.
Or perhaps they did and shrugged their shoulders. 'He'll finally be rid of them.' Them. You know, us weirdos. We all know the stereotype of a typical Joe fan, and all the hurtful terms that are hurled in our direction. I don't have to write them, because they are already in your mind.
When people are othered and then there is jostling for improved status, significance and approval (I'm not like them, I'm a cool fan, because x y and z) well gosh, doesn't it remind you of other internalized thought patterns related to oppressive systems?
Then when people express their valid feelings like dismay or shock, they are name called, told they need to 'get over it', they are parasocial, weirdos, etc. etc.
Look. Don't follow him down the street and film him from behind. Don't hang around his hotel. Don't post on his family or friends' social media pages, or god forbid, his hookup's. Don't make up shit about him and spread it as gospel. Please for the love of God.
Take your frustration and anger out on your own pages or spaces where it's okay to share your thoughts.
But you absolutely have the right to think them, and to have those thoughts color your perception of who you thought he was.
I go back to the original question. Is he a bad person? No, I still don't think so, but I believe he has behaved like a thoughtless and entitled one.

Brazil government plans ‘payroll-deduction loan’ for small businesses
Receivables flow to underpin loan calculations; experts highlight operational issues to address

The Brazilian government is preparing a type of “payroll-deduction loan” for micro and small business owners, based on their revenue generated through Pix, the country’s instant payment system. This initiative is being developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank, as part of efforts to reduce the cost of credit in Brazil.
The concept is for entrepreneurs to use their Pix receivables flow as collateral to secure bank loans. “Part of the revenue will be received through Pix, and another part will be allocated to repay the financing they have with the bank,” said Marcos Pinto, Secretary of Economic Reforms at the Ministry of Finance “It’s like a retailer’s payroll-deduction loan.”
As a security measure, Mr. Pinto said, there will be a limit on the number of Pix keys that business owners can create.
Carla Beni, an economist and professor at Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV), predicts a more challenging environment for small business owners in 2025, with higher interest rates and increased credit costs. The Selic benchmark policy rate is currently at 12.25% per year, and the Central Bank has indicated it may implement two more hikes, potentially raising the rate to 14.25% per year by March.

Accounting Firms in India: Enabling Financial Growth for Modern Businesses
The Essential Role of Accounting Firms in India
In today’s competitive business environment, accounting firms in India have become indispensable to companies aiming for financial transparency, legal compliance, and sustained growth. These firms are not only handling traditional tasks like bookkeeping and tax filing but are also offering strategic support in areas such as auditing, payroll management, and financial consulting. As India’s economy continues to evolve, the role of accounting professionals is becoming more crucial than ever.
With the increasing complexity of tax laws and financial regulations, businesses are turning to professional accounting firms to manage their financial responsibilities accurately and efficiently. The right firm can help reduce financial risks, ensure compliance with Indian accounting standards, and support the overall decision-making process.
Why Businesses Choose Professional Accounting Firms
Managing finances internally can be overwhelming, especially for small and mid-sized businesses. That’s why many organizations choose to outsource accounting functions to expert firms. Here’s why this trend is growing:
Regulatory Compliance: Accounting firms keep up with evolving tax laws, ensuring that businesses remain compliant with GST, income tax, and MCA regulations.
Cost Savings: Outsourcing is often more affordable than hiring an in-house accounting team, reducing operational costs.
Efficiency and Accuracy: Professional firms use advanced software and tools to ensure accurate record-keeping and timely financial reporting.
Scalable Solutions: Services can be adjusted to meet the needs of growing businesses, from startups to established enterprises.
Services Offered by Accounting Firms in India
Accounting firms in India offer a wide range of services tailored to different types of businesses. These include:
1. Bookkeeping and Financial Reporting
Maintaining organized financial records is the foundation of sound business practices. Firms handle daily transaction tracking, journal entries, ledger management, and monthly financial statement preparation.
2. Tax Planning and Filing
Navigating India’s tax system can be challenging. Accounting firms assist with GST returns, income tax filings, TDS calculations, and tax audits, while also advising on effective tax-saving strategies.
3. Audit and Assurance Services
Internal audits, statutory audits, and compliance audits help identify risks and inefficiencies. These services enhance transparency and build trust with stakeholders and investors.
4. Payroll and Compliance Management
From salary processing to PF, ESI, and professional tax deductions, accounting firms handle every aspect of payroll while ensuring compliance with labor laws and statutory requirements.
5. Business Advisory and Financial Consulting
Many firms also provide financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting services. This helps business owners make informed decisions based on data-driven insights.
Qualities to Look for in an Accounting Firm
Choosing the right accounting partner is a strategic business decision. When evaluating potential firms, consider the following:
Certification and Experience: Ensure the firm is registered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and has experience in your industry.
Technological Capability: Look for firms that use modern accounting tools such as Tally, Zoho Books, QuickBooks, or Xero.
Transparent Communication: A reliable firm provides regular updates, clear reports, and prompt support.
Customizable Services: Every business has unique needs. Choose a firm that offers tailored solutions instead of one-size-fits-all packages.
The Advantages of Hiring Indian Accounting Firms
India’s accounting sector is recognized for its high standards of professionalism and affordability. Some of the key benefits include:
Skilled Workforce: India produces thousands of qualified CAs and finance professionals each year.
Language Proficiency: English-speaking professionals make communication seamless for both domestic and international clients.
Competitive Pricing: Indian firms offer world-class services at cost-effective rates, making them attractive for global outsourcing.
The Evolving Future of Accounting in India
The accounting industry in India is rapidly adapting to technological innovation. Automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and cloud computing are transforming how firms deliver services. Clients now benefit from real-time financial data, predictive analytics, and paperless operations.

SPN?
1) honestly jody and donna , i know they aren’t entirely canon but both actresses support the idea and that’s good enough for me ^_^
** secondary is jack/harper i LOVE them and we deserved to see more. #letjackfuck2k24
2) rowena and jack!!!! i see their dynamic as an aunt/nephew type thing and I love (almost) every time they’re together (omitting the time jack witch-napped her to bring back Mary). I wish we got to see more of them </3
3) Sam and Amelia. usually i can handle the show’s bad moments as enjoyably bad but season 8 was paint-drying levels of boring. Amelia was a bland nothing-burger of a character and the rest of Sam’s normal guy arc did absolutely nothing for him or the season
4) hmmmmm….. not sure I have one actually 🧐
5) JACK <3 my most special boy in the entire world i love him more than anything ever Even my other special interests and fixations 😭 he’s been deeply important to me for 7 years now and probably will be for the rest of my life!! I self-ship with him and plan on getting several tattoos for him and hopefully I’ll be able to meet Alex again someday :3
6) Lucifer/Nick, hands down. Lucifer stopped being an interesting villain to me around like S7 or so honestly, and every time he got brought back it just felt like such a lazy move from the writers or a painful excuse to keep mark on the payroll
7) something that should’ve happened…very broad question for this show. Destiel should’ve happened, a better finale should’ve happened, some deleted scenes and scripts should’ve happened, Jack being covered in more blood and maybe having a longer lasting ‘villain’ arc should’ve happened …many such cases
8) something that shouldn’t have happened…again, many choices, but to save time I’ll just leave it at Nick’s entire character. besides (see #6) he straight up shouldn’t be alive. Dean shot him in the head with the Colt all the way back in S5 lmao
9) hmmmmm……i think my entire blog is full of rare (if not downright unpopular) opinions, but if I had to choose one that is Extremely rare, I’d go with this one: Dean is one of Jack’s dads. As frustrating as his initial behavior is, he does grow past it, and he puts genuine effort into being a better mentor/father figure to Jack—not only because he does care about them, but also because he literally could not forgive himself for how he acted and wanted to make up for it as much as he could.
obviously they do have a very complicated and rough relationship, but that’s literally every other relationship on this show, and it’s kind of agitating that they aren’t given the same nuance or understanding that the others get—especially when half of the discussions surrounding it can be boiled down to “bad man mean to helpless baby” (which is another thing on its own but ill stop here). I don’t mean this as an excuse or apologia for Dean’s behavior, but when you consider that he’s a severely traumatized person with a relatively small support system and a canon tendency to verbally abuse/emotionally distance himself from people as a coping mechanism (literally what he had a breakdown over in Purgatory) it’s a little easier to understand it.
everyone is quick to talk about how he said “Jack’s not family,” but nobody paid attention to the fact that in the script, he’s mildly horrified at Jack agreeing with him (if you truly meant an insult, wouldn’t you’d want the target to agree?). or that after jack restores the world from chuck’s damage, Dean not only fully expects/wants them to go back to the bunker with them (IE continue living there) but he also literally fantasizes about buying jack a big screen tv and recliners for saving the world. so id love if the fandom ixnayed on the “uncle” shit. ironically the only one of TFW to actually be Jack’s uncle is Cas, biologically
alternatively for a rare opinion: i want jack kline biblically, carnally, horrendously, homosexually, expeditiously, and so on and so forth.

Pagoda Thoughts - Waste Management
Yeah, you read that right.
So far, I've written two fics exploring the set-up for Lǐ Jìng's Pagoda, The Pagoda (AO3 | Tumblr) and Safety in Shadows (AO3 | Tumblr), and while they both have different takes, they overall assume that very little is provided in way of meeting a demons basic needs, although in The Pagoda I very generously allowed for a couple sources of clean water.
But one pretty major oversight I made in both fics was that I never considered how waste is managed, specifically human waste, or in this case demon waste.
It can be pretty gross to think about but the fact of the matter is that it quickly becomes a very pressing issue for any fixed settlement so I wanted to explore how it might be managed in both fics.
I think largely it will be the same logic applied to both of them with a couple of exceptions but without further ado here's my thinking:
There are no functioning toilets or sewage systems to speak of. Because I somehow don't think Lǐ Jìng has ever been concerned with fitting his pagoda with the latest human conveniences or ensuring it was up to modern building standards.
There are a diverse collection of demons trapped within the pagoda and as such the waste products they produce, if any, may differ wildly from conventional human waste and might not be as much of a problem when it comes to comfort and hygiene - i.e. it doesn't smell and won't be detrimental to health.
In addition to this point, in Safety in Shadows it is assumed that the vast majority of demons imprisoned are immortal, and that the few that aren't won't last long. So depending on the type of immortality, it's possible some demons have transcended the need to use the bathroom. (Lucky.)
One man's trash, might be another man's treasure. These waste products could have uses to other demons. For example, for more conventional waste, certain demons, perhaps bug or plant based demons, might actually be able to feed off of it. Or perhaps certain demons have found means and ways to grow food, likely via magic, and could benefit from some fertiliser. So deals can be struck.
The pagoda has a near infinite number of floors so it's very likely that some of them have just become designated dumping grounds for all sorts of waste and the stench of these floors is unbearable to most.
Some demons have the means of destroying waste, with fire or acid or what have you. In The Pagoda there are demons with elemental abilities transforming large areas of the pagoda - flooding them with water or scorching them with never dying fires.
Some of these constantly burning floors become designated waste incinerators and some demons will make deals with fire demons, or similar, to help them get rid of their waste. Others will just try and dump their waste secretively in one of the constantly burning floors but there are risks if they get caught doing so - you're cheating a powerful fire demons out of a potentially lucrative deal in providing a service after all. Also, the disrespect, of course.
Some demons don't have a fixed area they call "home" and are always on the move so they just don't care and go to the bathroom wherever they please so you may occasionally just come across random piles of waste.
How the waste actually gets from point A to point B is another consideration, you either:
• have a designated area that you use until the stench becomes unbearable,
• have a designated area that the fire demon, or similar, you have on the payroll deals with routinely,
• you use portals to directly deposit waste in or use them to move the waste afterwards
• crafted some sort of receptacle via magic or the limited resources available to you (i.e. other demons or wood you've managed to break off the pagoda itself*) that can then be transported to a designated waste or waste incinerator floor
• bartered for some sort of receptacle from someone who chose the above option and similar move the waste as required
*In The Pagoda this is possible because even though the walls, floors, doors, etc. are self healing they don't magic the removed materials back in the process. This is not possible in Safety in Shadows because it will essentially just rewind the destruction and put everything back where it should be.
On a related but different note, while I think it's a small number, there could also be demons with periods or something similar to contend with and that begs the question are there any alternatives to them other than free bleeding? For some that might not be a concern but for others if they don't have magic to conjure up some sort of sanitary product, they'll be looking for someone that can because otherwise they have limited options.
I'm assuming that the jumpsuit you're given when you're imprisoned is all the clothing you get and the means to produce materials for clothing is exceptionally difficult in this environment so I suppose one option for a demon that doesn't want to deal with free bleeding is to go around stealing people's clothes, probably after killing them, but I can't imagine many people have a great habit of laundry here so might be a bit gross.
Alright, I think that's everything I can think of for the moment, although I might add more later, but I sincerely apologise for the existence of this post.

2024-10-04: Area 04 (The Bowman Herald)
On Second Street stands the wooden office of The Bowman Herald, the local newspaper. They cover news in Bowman, as well as some things in the broader Wasco county. The current owner and editor of the paper is Ernest Reynolds, a balding man who pays closer attention to his pocketwatch than most train conductors. Ernest has a predilection for gambling in town (how else is he supposed to make sure the high-stakes poker games get covered?), and he's recently lost a bit of money that was supposed to go to payroll. His loss is potentially your gain, though, because he's willing to publish stories of questionable integrity for the right price.
The Bowman Herald is also somewhat unusual among small town newspapers in that it has a young Klamath man (Lincoln Butler) on retainer to report on the happenings in and around the reservation, which is especially helpful for giving Mr. Reynolds ideas for embellished articles about the sordid details of the events transpiring during the Modoc War. Lincoln doesn't fit in terribly well in Bowman or on the reservation; each place thinks Lincoln is too entrenched in the other culture to be truly trustworthy, so he is merely tolerated in both places.
As for the layout of the building the Herald occupies, it's mostly an open area with an office off to the side where the editor can close the door and focus on proofreading the pages. The printing press and paper cutter take up most of the space on the wall opposite the office. On the back wall (closest to the printing press) is a work table and a cabinet where all the lead type is stored. Running the length of the open office is a series of ropes where the freshly-inked pages are placed to dry before printing the other side. Crushed and severed fingers were a persistent occupational hazard, and those who worked the presses long enough often found themselves with a case of "printer's disease" (lead poisoning).
A Note About Cultural Erasure
In the interest of historical authenticity, I tried to track down some traditional Klamath names. I did find a list of tribal members, but it's a list from the perspective of the colonizers as the U.S. government tried to implement the blood quanta system to determine who was "pure enough" to warrant tribal membership. You can view it for yourself on the Federal Register from November 21, 1957 (the list starts on page 25 of the PDF, but 9303 if using the original pagination).
Because the list also records birth dates (or at least birth years) I was able to find individuals who would have been alive during 1872-1873. Scanning through the list, pretty much every name had been Anglicized. The nearby reservation where the Klamath people lived was established in 1864, and the systematic forced assimilation of white culture was likely in effect well before the reservation's establishment. This leads me to the sad conclusion that traditional Klamath names were largely erased and replaced with Anglicized during the time I'm exploring.
However, there is also the (equally unsettling possibility) that traditional names were used during this time period, but were erased at some point between 1873 and 1954. In either case, I will be giving indigenous characters "white" names going forward with this project unless someone else is able to provide me with a source that indicates otherwise.

During the last two decades, it has become commonplace for presidential candidates on both sides of the aisle to pledge to not raise taxes on at least some income groups. For example, in 2008 John McCain promised to not raise taxes on any income group, whereas Barack Obama pledged to not raise taxes on individuals earning less than $200,000 and on families earning less than $250,000. Likewise, in 2016 Donald Trump pledged to reduce taxes for the middle class, and Hillary Clinton pledged to not raise taxes on individuals earning less than $250,000. Most recently, in 2020 Joe Biden pledged to not raise taxes on anyone making less than $400,000, and in 2024 Kamala Harris re-affirmed this commitment.
These pledges are clearly made to insulate “middle-class” households (and middle-class voters!) from increases in their taxes. Therefore, they are also a statement about who should bear the burden of financing federal spending and how progressive the tax system should be.
But these pledges also complicate the development and implementation of good tax policy. By design, they place a large share of the tax base “off the table,” making it harder to raise revenue. Less obviously, these pledges also make it harder to raise revenue from higher-income households because they effectively exempt a portion of higher-income households’ income from taxation. This makes it harder to increase the progressivity of the income tax. Finally, these pledges can make it politically or practically difficult to enact and implement new tax or spending programs. This has caused some awkward episodes in the past and could make it difficult to negotiate a future deficit reduction deal by taking certain policies off the table before the discussion even starts.
To illustrate the revenue and distributional effects of these types of pledges, we estimate the effect of increasing statutory income tax rates by 10% under different income exemption thresholds using the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center microsimulation model. We consider the effect of five salient thresholds: $0; $100,000; $250,000; $400,000; and $1,000,000. In this exercise, the function of the pledge is to exempt taxpayers under the threshold from the tax increase. Specifically, we assume the threshold applies to married couples filing jointly based on adjusted gross income. The threshold for non-married filers is set to be half as large as that of married filers.
We apply the 10% tax increase to all individual income tax rates, including those that apply to capital gains and under the Alternative Minimum Tax (but not other taxes, like payroll taxes or the net investment income tax). In each simulation that we estimate, the change in tax rate for any group over the threshold is exactly the same—a 10% increase in all rates over the threshold. In other words, the only differences in revenues and tax rates across simulations arise from the change in thresholds. (To focus on the main points of this paper, we are assuming there is no change in behavior under alternative tax regimes.)
We assume these tax rate increases affect the 2025 tax year. We choose this base to ensure that the lower individual tax rates provisioned by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act are still in effect. The TPC microsimulation model predicts that total tax receipts will be $4.8 trillion in 2025 and that the average federal tax rate paid by Americans will be 19.8%.
Note that our policy example, even without a threshold, would increase tax rates more in absolute terms for higher-income taxpayers because it is a proportional increase in tax rates within a system already characterized by steeply progressive tax rates. For example, under this policy the lowest bracket tax rate rises by just one percentage point (from 10 to 11%), whereas the rate facing those in the top bracket increases by 3.7 percentage points (from 37 to 40.7%).

@rabidchilde this is all secondhand through my FLGS who got it from his GW rep and while I trust my FLGS guy to be honest with me, who knows if he's getting the truth from GW, so take it with a grain of salt, but
Basically they automated their main warehouse in Tennessee a couple years back, in the middle of the Covid wargaming boom, causing further fuckery to distribution than they would've had just from Covid. Then the robots (basically industrial-scale roomba type things that zip around the warehouse, place and pick things, then head back to recharge when they need it) started fucking up. This has not been solved.
So, rather than use their profits to buy more production facilities, rather than hire more people to run those facilities and the distribution centers, once again the profit motive has driven them to act stupid out of raw greed, turn to automation to save a few bucks on payroll, meanwhile the automation is ten kinds of fucked up and the problems haven't been solved in two years so who knows if they're even solveable with the current system.
And the end result has been massive supply issues, *especially* in North America, and they're so far behind on order fulfillment that they are planning a total moratorium in the near future in order to catch up. This will put any orders on hold for... days? weeks? months? And mean you can't order anything at all until the moratorium is over.
What this means for me, specifically, is that the allarus terminators I ordered are unlikely to arrive at my FLGS before the moratorium goes into effect and so I'll be waiting on them for a whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiile. Which would suck under any circumstances, but I'm in a bit of a funk and the only thing that was kinda sustaining me was planning out my dumb kitbash ideas using them, and now that's out so what am I supposed to do? One of my other nerdy hobbies? I mean yeah probably I'll be fine after I have a little snit and just shift to working on d&d or something but for now, mreeeeh.
