Yep. It all began because the British colonized Palestine. They were spread too thin at the time and basically enlisted Zionist militia groups to administer the region for them, training them in the genocidal tactics they used in Africa, India, and all over their empire at the time (the UK no longer uses those tactics since WWII ended, but it’s literally all the things you see the IDF doing, the leaders of which were the original terrorists trained by the British Army). That’s why Israel acts like a settler colony, because they were trained by the “best” at just that. The other Western countries have also long supported this colonialism for various historical reasons, though none that can truly justify it. The U.S. is the worst offender, but no Western government’s hands are clean.
“Israel is committing genocide.” Yes. They are. But so is the US. The US is 100% complicit in this, and Israel would not have been able to do as much without the help of the US. I’m disgusted to be living in a country that is complicit in the literal MURDER of civilians. Men, women, children, elderly, families. All dead because of Israel AND the US. This needs to STOP.

This man really just out loud said “we’ve never wanted a diplomatic resolution with Hamas.” And, of course, he says they totally want a ceasefire, but they just want Hamas to end up destroyed at the end of it. Well, that’s just killing everybody. Hell, later in the interview Matthew Miller even says he wishes Hamas would come to the table because they’ve been absent the past couple weeks. Oh, really? You mean since their lead negotiator was assassinated? I wonder why they might not be talking right now!

Like, yeah, U.S. is like “come to the table Hamas.”
Meanwhile, the table:

This is the question that I would like to ask state and federal members of Congress, should there ever be an occasion (town hall or some such) to do so in person. It's a relatively simple question, made multiple choice so that it's easy for them to answer.
"Esteemed Congress person, why is it that you have remained silent on (conversely, openly supported) the Trump administration's deliberate implementation of Project 2025 and the erosion of our democracy? Is it because:
A. Someone in the administration has knowledge of something with which to blackmail you with
B. You believe that compliance will put you in a position to profit and hold some sort of political power
C. You're a bigoted, misogynistic, fascist sycophant who is eager to live in a whites only world
D. You outright lied when you took your oath of office to protect the Constitution
E. All of the above"
And should the esteemed Congress person deny all of these and want an option F, none of the above, I would then demand that they fucking prove it, in action not just in word.
Grow a damn spine.

Crazy, because they definitely couldn’t do that if they didn’t have all the weapons we keep giving them to do this.

wait what was anti-science about twisters?
It’s not anti-science (quite the opposite!) but anti-education I think.
*WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW *
The male lead proudly boasts that his storm wrangling team don’t have or need “fancy PhDs” to do their job, while being very reluctant to discuss his college background . He and his less educated team are the good guys, giving free food and using their earnings from selling tornado merchandise to offer tornado disaster relief.
Meanwhile the more educated academic team, Storm Par, are all boring snobby squares, and idiots unknowingly giving their data to evil real estate developers who exploit tornado victims. The only two likeable Storm Par members (Kate and Javi), are the ones who switch sides to help the other “hillbillies” team.

An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress
End the Massacre, Protect the Innocent
1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
As a concerned American and one of your constituents, I am writing to express my PROFOUND HORROR and OUTRAGE regarding our complicity in Israel’s genocide of Palestinians. The toll is devastating: over 43,000 Palestinians, including 16,765 children, and 1,200 Israelis have lost their lives, with countless others wounded, held hostage, or missing. In Gaza, Israel's blockade has left over 2 million people, half of whom are children, without essentials—food, fuel, water, electricity, and medical supplies. This collective punishment violates international law and humanity itself. On
February 25, 2024, Aaron Bushnell, a 25-year-old U.S. Air Force airman, took his life in an act of protest outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington, DC. Dressed in uniform, he set himself on fire while shouting "Free Palestine," expressing his deep disillusionment and refusal to remain complicit in what he saw as genocide. Bushnell's final act was a plea for justice and a testament to the moral crisis that weighs on us all. His sacrifice underscores the urgent need to address the humanitarian crisis in Palestine and end U.S. complicity. We cannot continue to support actions that blatantly disregard human life and dignity.
As you prepare to vote on aid to Israel, I urge you to stand against violence and advocate for an immediate ceasefire, the lifting of Gaza’s blockade, and diplomacy that upholds the rights and lives of all people in the region. Americans stand with peace and human rights, not oppression and endless cycles of violence.
The time to act is now.

Tempted to go back and find every article I've ever reblogged about privacy and/or security concerns in re: TikTok, with maybe a couple side posts about China's human rights abuses just to prove a point, but I'm rapidly running out of my ability to interact with people and I should probably save what I have left for the last two hours of work.
Also, I'd be attempting to prove a point on Facebook, which is just madness.

A U.S. nonprofit has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for an Israeli sniper unit for the stated purpose of buying scopes, silencers, and other equipment. The unit, which is nicknamed Rephaim, or “Ghosts,” has since been implicated in possible war crimes and killing over 100 people in Gaza and has been tied to the killing of four unarmed Palestinians in Gaza since October 7, 2023.
On October 9, 2023, the mother of unit member Daniel Raab—an Illinois native—posted on Facebook that the nonprofit, registered as “Friends of Paratrooper Sniper Unit 202,” was in need of “helmets, rain gear, barrels, vests, sniper stands, silencers, camouflage, and the list goes on.”
In its 990 filings, Friends of Paratrooper Sniper Unit 202 is described as “an organization dedicated to catering to the additional requirements and the overall welfare of soldiers serving in a specific military unit.” The description continues to say that the primary focus of the nonprofit is, “to ensure that soldiers have access to the necessary resources, support systems, and amenities that can enhance their comfort, safety, and well-being while they are actively serving their duty.”
The charity has raised significant amounts of money for the sniper unit since its establishment last year. According to its tax filings, Friends of Paratrooper Sniper Unit 202 raised over $304,000 in the year ending December 2023, of which it spent roughly $208,000 in grants—money which its promoters emphasize goes directly to soldiers in the unit.

Insane that there was actually a video of the IDF doing a controlled demolition of a university in Gaza, clearly showing it couldn’t have been a military threat, especially since they had been using it as a base for a month, and the Biden admin was literally saying they can’t give any facts on the matter until Israel tells them what they are. Like, really? Facts are just whatever the government of a foreign power tells us they are. Can’t make any independent conclusions at all. These assholes are making us look even more like clowns than Trump did at this point.

Wow, yeah, we should be happy that Biden has provided only enough ammunition to destroy 55% of the Gaza Strip in less than 6 months. Don’t worry about how much more will be destroyed by Election Day in ~8 months, because Trump would have had it at 100% way earlier than Biden. And when it comes down to it, doesn’t it matter most that we commit genocide a lot slower than the Republicans would and while furrowing our brows about it?

tentative processing rambling about today's events
#maybe aim for bigger fish ????#this won't have the same galvanizing effect as luigi#But also I'm thinking would I also be feeling this way if it were u.s. ambassadors in a foreign country?#I guess it depends on which country they're hypothetical ambassadors to#maybe maybe possibly those two were trying to fight genocide from the inside#but either way people continue to prove that they're generally very okay with murder as long as they don't have to see it#people really think that the systems we live in aren't inherently violent#and that this is some kind of exceptional unjustifiable occurrence#even if the ethics of it are murky#still trying to figure out the ethics of a hypothetical violent second rev war in general#I think maybe we'd need to reach a point where the most vulnerable have had federal support completely withdrawn from them anyway#(which... we are inching closer to)#before we can justify attacking the stability of the gov vulnerable people are forced to depend on to NOT die#I have no idea if at the end of these four years if anything of that systemic safety net will be salvageable#but we'll see I guess#in terms of palestine#violence against the aggressor (not civilians)#(and they count as aggressors imo. they're representatives of the state and likely took part in securing u.s. funding for the genocide)#is always going to be understandable but not always pragmatic for the cause#we've had at least two people self immolate#and not even directing the violence inward has gotten lawmakers' attention#it's become increasingly clear they value no lives but their own#and are allowing the rule of law to be actively dismantled#obligatory jfk quote about inevitable violence#idk man maybe I've been radicalized and the worth of souls is great and all that#but. once again. these people are the aggressors. the perpetrators. actively choosing to be responsible for civilian deaths#even if they aren't 'active combatants' they are 99% likely actively choosing to make complicity in genocide their career#would I have targeted these specific people in response? no. and the practical consequences make it unjustifiable#but in this dire of circumstances violence is at the very least always adjacent to self-defense#the decorum of mourning and wailing over these two randos is so freaking asinine when 50+ nameless gazan children are murdered per day

[ID: A series of tweets from "Jessica Ellis" @baddestmamajama on Twitter, replying to a tweet by Vivek Ramaswamy (@VivekGRamaswamy), in which he says, "This whole 'they're weird' argument from the Democrats is dumb and juvenile. This is a presidential election, not a high school prom queen contest. It's also a tad ironic coming from the party that preaches "diversity and inclusion". Win on policy if you.. (tweet cuts off).
Ellis replies: "No, it's not. It is important to point out that the tenor of conversation from Republicans has changed over the last 15 years. We're not just disagreeing about taxes and small business. They want to know what my genitals look like and when my last period was. It's fucking weird."
"Part of the reason the Democrafts' messaging has been garbage for the last decade is that establishment Dems kept insisting that these are people we could reach across the aisle to, that it's all just minor differences of opinion. It's demonstrably untrue and has been a while.
Acknowledging that their fascist oppressive party identity is not a norm of democracy is an important forward step. We would like them to be opponents, but they aren't -- they're something much more invasive and dangerous and I'm delighted to see Walz lead the charge on saying so.
Also let's be real. They have been calling us Lesbian Poetry Fairy Soy latte-drinking arugula-eating polyamorous deviants since the beginning of time. One week of calling them weird for undermining privacy and democracy and suddenly it's so mean and juvenile? I see." End ID.]

An open letter to the U.S. Congress
Sponsor the NEWBORN Act to address the infant mortality spike!
42 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!
A new CDC report has found that US infant mortality rates rose by 3% in 2022, with significant increases among Native Americans and white non-Hispanics, and among male babies. This is appalling and worrying. It must be addressed. Leading causes of death were maternal complications and bacterial sepsis of newborns. Health policies that affect mothers and children (or more accurately, lack thereof) are also a significant cause. Could abortion bans also be contributing? We simply don’t know. We do know that infant mortality rose significantly in four states: Georgia, Iowa, Missouri, and Texas. It’s time to find out why. Please co-sponsor the NEWBORN Act (S.2978 and H.R.5789), which, if passed, would “create infant mortality-focused pilot programs in the highest-risk areas of the country.”  In the wealthiest country in the world infant mortality rates should not be increasing. We need to get to the bottom of this immediately. Please support the quick passage of these bills so we can begin to find out what’s gone wrong. Thanks.
