I've been working on this commission

and scales infuriate me

to the point where I've made my own brush pack for it, and there are so many points where I feel emotionally blackmailed by my own process, of failing to understand immediately and getting frustrated by it.

I know making mistakes is a part of the artistic process, but I'm so annoyed at how useless I feel. Even when I find a solution, I feel like all my past HOURS in progress is pointless - despite that progress leading me to the conclusion.

I know I'm interpreting this process like the glass is half empty instead of half full.

But I just wanna vent about it a little. To focus on that feeling until its useless to me, because it feels better than denying it entirely, even if its in exchange for a positive mindset.

‘i’m going to die. it’s not a joke anymore. i seriously feel like i’m going to die’ he tugs at the hem of your t-shirt as you clear up the mountain of tissues on the left bedside table, and then tugs again while you’re clearing up a pile of dishes on the right.

you sigh, ignoring him, and disappear into the kitchen to reappear with a fresh bowl of hot chicken soup ‘seungcheol, we’ve been over this already. you’re not going to die’

‘forget it! just get me my will. i have to make some last-minute changes’ he asks for it dramatically, draping a limp arm over his eyes.

‘you don’t have a will’ you blow on the hot soup in quick bursts before feeding him a spoonful.

you force-feed him another spoonful to shut him up, a bit of it spilling onto the quilted blanket. the soup must’ve still been too hot because he lets out a little cry, whining, though it’s entirely possible he’s overreacting.

‘you’re not taking this seriously, i’m actually dying’

‘what do you know! you’re not a doctor!’ he grumbles, taking a moment to tell you he really likes the soup and really really appreciates you making it for him before continuing to rant.

‘yeah, and what about the actual doctor we called who said you’re not?’

‘he doesn’t know anything either, that hack. the people on the internet’ he picks up his phone from the bed, showing you a screenshot from some site you’re pretty sure is for hypochondriacs to confirm each other’s delusions, and taps on the screen ‘have told me i have less than 24 hours left. 24. 24!’

‘seungcheol, i can’t have this conversation with you anymore. seriously. you need to go to sleep’ you put the empty bowl aside, straightening, and then pulling the blanket up to cover him.

‘no, no, don’t leave. i want lap time’ he pouts, baby-talking his way into his third one of the day. you sit back down on the bed with a sigh as he repositions himself to lay on your lap, wriggling his head around until he’s comfy. your fingers slowly comb through his hair, your nails scratching lightly against his scalp to soothe him. in a slightly gross but domestic act, you pick a few bits of flaky skin out of his unwashed hair, flicking them away. you should wash it for him later, you think. he’d like that.

seungcheol always found the sensation of you picking at his scalp strangely comforting, and surprisingly quite sleep-inducing. minutes pass without a single sound.

it’s quiet. finally. or so you think.

‘if i die, you can’t date anyone for the next 10 years. at least’

‘what?!’ you jerk your thighs up, pushing him off your lap ‘10 years? you’re crazy’

he can’t believe what he’s hearing.

I must say this chapter launched me into a full blown Mitsukou/Soukou brainrot. I have like a million fic ideas for both of them now and there’s no way I can possibly write all of them AND complete my requests so I just have to be sad. But omg, what a chapter!! I’m still stuck on the “smothered him with attention” line, that sounds like some shit I’d write. And ofc Kou being “captivated by that loser.” Ugh they’re so in love. I am now fully convinced that Sousuke had a crush on Kou in the former timeline when he was alive, you literally cannot convince me otherwise

The fact that if Kou’s mother hadn’t died and his father wasn’t neglectful, he would’ve used his free time to befriend Sousuke…and him being the one to save Sousuke’s life in the new timeline…oh I’m ill. The finger scene. Kou’s little blush. MITSUBA TEACHING KOU HOW TO USE A CAMERA BY STANDING BEHIND HIM AND GUIDING HIS HANDS. This was their cheesy romcom moment. The dead wife montage in an action movie

I love how their former selves are trying to reach out to them. No.3 was so unhappy with his existence to the point of wanting to die, and he wanted Sousuke’s life so badly but now that he’s lost it all he wants it back. Kou learned during the Red House arc that it’s okay if life is complicated, it’s okay if he’s stressed and doesn’t have everything he wants, and now he has to see a version of himself live in blissful ignorance. I don’t understand how people can say this timeline is better unless they’re fluff addicts, them staying in this timeline would do nothing for their character arcs and the overall narrative themes of growing up and facing reality. This life may be easier, but it robs each of them of their natural growth. I understand people are gonna have different preferences but the conflict of the old timeline MADE the story, do ppl rly want all of that to be thrown away for some “and then it never happened” ending?? Do you genuinely think it would be better writing if we never saw No.3 Mitsuba again and his arc ended with another shock value death???

I love how every version of Mitsuba wants to be someone else, they each perceive themselves as the “fake one” (excluding OG Sousuke) and feel disconnected from their existence. When I get around to writing my character analyses for TBHK I WILL talk abt all the queer allegories that go along with Mitsuba’s character but for now I’ll hold my tongue. All ik is this chapter made me love Sousuke sm more

Oh, and adult Amane…jump scare of the century. I can’t wait to see what his role is in this new timeline, I have a feeling it may be similar to Baby Tsukasa in the previous one. I love whenever the Yugi twins interact with Mitsuba (yes even the angst with Tsukasa) so that scene made me cheer. Also Kou saved his boyfriend!! Yippee!!

Sousuke and Kou wanting to run away together gave me major Picture Perfect Amanene vibes. Also HKOTO vibes, pls bring back the yaoi kidnapping🙏🏻

walked for an hour (caught up with a friend in my apartment who's also in 11th, i haven't talked to him since just after board results came out. i seem to have been misjudging a lot of people lately but also i can see that the both of us have grown in mindset and i feel so much more comfortable talking to him now. rant incoming!! there was this certain incident that happened way back in the first half of 2023 and i realized that my apartment friends were actually quite homophobic/transphobic. it was more a bigotry born out of ignorance & the 'phobes pushing lies than anything but that was a time that i had just figured out my sexuality. now listen it's not my job to fix ppl or anything. but after talking to him today i realize he's actually quite a nice person but social media algorithms have shown all the wrong things. UNLIKE with the other two people in the ~incident~ who are just.. ugh can't describe them (in a bad way).. anyways me & him have a lot of values that align and he is open to listening. he knew about me being queer when i was still questioning and though he reacted in a way i didn't like, it didn't change our relationship or dynamic. maybe he just forgot, i only made a passing remark that i thought i was bi after all. anyways, i feel comfortable opening up to him about some stuff so i think i might properly come out to him one day too. maybe right before leaving for college but that's like 2 years away lol. but if the past few months have taught me anything, it's that i'm growing up and i should hold on to the friends who value me and listen to my opinions. friends make your life so much richer and i've never been the best at making them. i don't have many friends but the ones i do, i want to cherish. he is not perfect in anyway whatsoever but quite thoughtful for a 15yr old cishet boy)

A mature bonkai reunion how would you approach it after or during legacies?

In regards to mature BK during legacies I'm unsure, I've never watched legacies but I know that Bonnie never appears in that show but Kai appears on it and the general opinion seems to be that he was ooc in it

I think something that would have avoided him being ooc in that show, might have been to have him paired in scenes with Bonnie, (but just to clarify I would never actually want Bonnie/ Kat to be anywhere near any of those writers, this is just hypothetically speaking)

I feel that he seemed most true to his character and he had more interesting reactions/ interactions when his character was paired with Bonnie.

I tried looking up Kai's storyline on legacies...but I just didn't really know what any of that was or who other characters were meant to really be except for like Jo's grown up twins and Alaric ? - freakin Alaric man ...anyways

I was so confused, I thought Kai was left chained up in Karaoke Hell prison world or whatever but for some reason in legacies theres all these other random people that were students? Being punished? Alaric sent them there? I think I'm misremembering what I read 😭

I'm sorry for the legacies rant, but since I didn't even watch anywhere close to all of TVD I'm even more confused about what's supposed to be going on with Legacies 😭😭

I'm thinking we have Kai in his Karaoke prison world, he's all bitter and angry and half-dessicated.

We have Bonnie, who on the outside seems to be doing good, maybe she's found some distant Bennett relatives, so she moves to where they are, it's a quiet town, there's a local witch community who her relatives introduced her to, she keeps in touch with the gang from Mystic Falls from time to time, all seems to be going well, but maybe too well ?

Maybe she's a little bored ? For the majority of her life she's been in the centre of so much mayhem, whether she wanted to be or not. She knows she deserves peace, she deserves to rest. It just seems like she doesn't know how though. She probably wouldn't describe herself as a thrill-seeker, yet she finds herself drawn to other people's problems -the witchy kind of problems that require witchy solutions... and maybe siphon solutions.

She doesn't know many siphoners, to her annoyance, they seem pretty rare and she wouldn't feel right forcing just any of them to do her bidding. Except, she knows one siphoner who she wouldn't feel guilty about ensnaring to join her cause.

And so, she gets him out (we all got that one prisoner we keep locked away in an alternate dimension, guys chill).

And our boy Kai is as vengeful as ever, he will obviously not make this easy for her and Bonnie knows this, so she takes some necessary precautions -a spell to ensure that he is bound to her in some way, but he is still a pretty powerful coven leader (nvm the fact that coven's population is very small now) so the spell comes with some stipulations -she is in turn bound to him.

The spell ensures they're not able to hurt each other past a certain degree, so cue a ton of psychological warfare on both sides as they both try and out-manipulate the other (it turns into a power play sort of situation *wink wink*).

He's absolutely lost, his unbeating heart pulling him in every direction. But he knows he can't lose you. Not like this. He cares for you too much. He really likes you. He... actually loves you. So he follows you. Because he doesn't want you to leave him. He's still silent as he thinks about how to never make you feel this raw again. About the emotionally sensitive part, people don't talk about it because ashelsha people are good at hiding their emotions. I mean, all normal people are emotionally sensitive but how they deal with those emotions differs. (and please don't kill me for saying this)But I have never had good experiences with ashlesha dominant women, they always want to be in the spotlight, the type to announce their pregnancy at somebody else's wedding and I know a lot of other people who've had similar experiences with ashlesha women. So a lot of people nikalofy their bhadaas on ashlesha women by villainizing them (like, I'm doing right now). Ashlesha is also considered to be the "man stealing" placement. And I know that the man is in the wrong for cheating on their partners in the first place and that somebody who is yours cannot be stolen and all that shit, but I have also noticed that ashlesha people will literally see a person in a relationship and then go after them ONLY.

I actually like being called a Mahila, like dude fuck yourself I AM A mahila, lol. But as a Punjabi, I love the woman words of Punjabi much more. and also, I do not like "woman", it sounds like an extended version of "man", like it was invented as a second thought, ykwim. monster high rant under cut because i have feelings and wanna rant lol

ugh now im thinking about how the new show like ... sort of removed clawdeen's blackness. like i'm glad she's still not white, oh my god i would have lost my mind. but at the same time it feels like a weird choice to change her as dramatically as they did. like draculaura is still miss perfect while being an absolute sweetheart; and frankie is still a newbie who's prone to mess ups. but clawdeen is....not clawdeen??? She's not miss fashionista with a bite who's a protective big sister anymore. it just feels ... weird. idk. (also the whole thing where in reboots the black characters suddenly become biracial feels weird in a way i don't know how to explain.) i'm not black so like, idk if this is just me comparing new clawdeen to old clawdeen & therefore i am only noticing the lack of 'blackcent'; but then there's also the fact that her g3 doll is lighter skinned than g1, g1 cgi animation is darker than g3 cgi animation; and box art g1 is darker than g3 box art, and her hair is lighter color. Also if they end up making her and deuce a thing then they're actively ignoring that the creator basically said she's a lesbian; and that's....something.

also, the way that draculaura is biracial is sort of weird if only because it constantly feels forced. Dracula was romanian. and original draculaura was romanian. and now she's asian. it just feels like a strange choice? Espically when there are plenty of other characters with unspecified backgrounds / uncertain backgrounds (twyla, Ghoulia, Toralei, spectra, Purrsephone and Meowlody, etc). but espically removing any hint of an accent from draculaura & making her dracula's bio daughter feel like the weirdest choices. It's like, completely removing the entire point of her character. She was prosecuted, a plague survivor, and they got rid of that. I hope they at least like, say she's half-romanian and half-asian. That would honestly satisfy me that way; but it doesn't look like they will.

I like the choice to change lagoona from austrailian into latina as a nod to the creature from the black lagoon which was in the amazon rainforest. It's a neat nod. I do wish we had another austrailian character though just to fill that hole. maybe they'll do it with gil? idk i miss gil lol

anyway, my tl;dr is that some choices make sense. other parts just feel....weirdly forced. and im tired lol
