Shadow had to hold his floppy hat onto his head as the wind tried to steal it away, rushing over his face and freezing the tips of his ears. He grinned into the clouds that parted before the airship, blown by the propellers and fading just enough to see the sparkling country below. 

The door slid open, then shut, and Shadow held out his hand behind him. Vio's fingers laced through his in response, warm. Maybe a little too warm, actually. 

"You're freezing," Vio said, speaking up to be heard over the rushing wind. He stepped in close so their shoulders pressed together. "It's a bit dangerous to be out here without a coat." 

"Danger? Who cares about danger?" Shadow leaned just right, so his chin propped up on Vio's shoulder. He had to admit, the scratchy wool felt nice. Maybe he really should get a coat. 

"I do," Vio answered, adjusting to make the position more comfortable for them both. "I don't want to lose you again."

Shadow scoffed. He didn't discredit Vio's worries, but he felt invincible now. He threw his free arm out to the sky like the wing of a bird taking flight. "You won't. We're free!"

Basically Macaque used to work on engine parts at an airship bay. Mostly Wukong and the brotherhood's ships. He kept working there until one of the ships at the bay exploded near him, leaving him with a huge mutilated mark on his face, and his right arm gone. Luckily, his nephew Redson (yes he's a nephew now-) managed to give him a copper mask with a porcelain face, and a prosthetic arm. He now spends his days living with Wukong, and always sends his goodbyes to him outside the bay.

Hi!!!! I've been reading through this webnovel after seeing @ot3's pitch for it and started writing down some thoughts on the characters and worldbuilding and imminent murdering. This story is very, very long and I only reacted up to about chapter 33, so most of my thoughts will involve the worldbuilding and less the murder mystery aspect -- so if you're looking for theorizing you won't find much of that here. Since I'll be continuing eventually, I wanted to post what I did make note of to revisit later!

Most of these are not marked by chapter/section because I was lazy and I'm not sure how easy it will be to follow as a result, but everything is chronological.

The visual I'm getting of the solar system/local system/dimension they inhabit is kind of a blend of steampunk and fantasy and uhh some secret third thing. With the walls of their "universe" painted in that puella dollhouse witch lair style. Does the sun bounce around like a screensaver. Does it orbit their earth or is it on a fixed axis flung out into “space”? Does “space” even exist anymore? I’m assuming they’re in an enclosed area that they've created. Do they actively use arcane resources to keep objects (ie star and planets) sustaining themselves, or have they made them self sufficient?

Why has the disco elysium skill tree randomly started talking to su. Is this her future self nagging her. Is she pulling a han sooyoung. when do we get to the various utsushikome ego deaths

"prosognostic overlap"…do ppl repeat faces? Are most people cloned at this point? What triggered the need for cloning surely medicine is advanced enough that childbirth or test tube babies are feasible? Can bodies be cloned and reinhabited to inhibit aging? Is there some disturbing psychological element to seeing someone with the same face as you? Does it make your brain short circuit? Kam mentioned having children earlier which I assume means people still give birth or have test tube babies, so i don’t know if it’s the result of cloning…but it does sound like a sameface sort of thing. What else would it be if not that though?

Actually, if they’ve figured out teleportation (whatever it was called when they went up the aetherbridge) - let's say they can atomize a body and reforming it elsewhere (though we don't know for sure yet, could also be a fold in spacetime) - transferring consciousness to an empty clone of yourself (and therefore effectively doing away with aging or death wholesale) sounds a lot more efficient and technologically practical than maintaining an organic system that naturally decays. Why keep on finding ways to push the human body past its limits when you could simply transfer a person to a new, identical vessel?

I feel like the key to immortality isn’t maintaining an organic body, which naturally tends towards systems of entropy (being a biological thing, entropy=decay), but rather delineating and separating human consciousness from its host and replicating its original environment perfectly. I’m not talking about making a copy of consciousness, which is just glorified cloning - I’m talking about *transferring* a consciousness.

You could almost call dementia itself the mind's tendency towards its own kind of entropy?

Though if you transfer a consciousness to a younger body, the dementia issue could still potentially remain. Depends on if it the author sees it as a solely physical phenomena (atrophy/buildup of inhibitors of the brain) or there's some metaphysical anomaly about amassing too many memories/"existing" too long in general

The way spellwork is described is really cool and feels super believable. Optimizing multiple concurrent spells into one “function” is intricate and sophisticated, and you have to dedicate a lot of brainpower to doing the math in your head. It’s like they’re coding the real world. I love the way lurina describes this it's awesome.

Some thoughts on Carnival Row (spoilers both seasons)-

- this show feels like a remake of a late 90’s to early aughts cartoon but with a gritty adult vibe. I say this with affection.

-I think if this was maybe a movie or maybe they had just gone a slightly different direction this would have really taken off. Even as is though it think it’s vastly underrated, like it has problems -oh boy does it-, but the steampunk-ish early 20th century vibe plus fantasy set in an entirely new world is cool. Just the vibes, they are great. (Ps it could actually be gaslight punk or something).

- I really hope the “New Dawn” revolutionary group from the Pact might be good guys? Like not perfect, but I’d like the communists to maybe make some lasting good change on the world? I’m probably putting my clown make up on with that a little. On the other hand I am deeply pessimistic they are going to also be the villains. I hope I’m wrong, I hope they are a nuanced faction which does offer support but maybe is doing some fucked up stuff too, which just pales in comparison to the rest of the world atm.

- I wish the Fae were more like, visibly on screen queer and poly instead of just minor lip service to back up the mostly obscure world building for that. The poly part I get is slightly more… a sign of some progress in that even talking about it as a good thing is a positive. But this could be more queer. (I got a whole thing about how it seems like Amazon especially doesn’t like mlm on screen but that does extend to queer people as a whole).

- there is a fuck ton of worldbuilding and I’m sad we won’t be able to see much more of it. I think it could be really neat.

Ok so, plot opinions time.

- I enjoy Imogen and Agreaus but they really are just in a different show, I’m hopeful their involvement with the New Dawn is going to lead to them being used to support the Row and the Fae in the Burgue. Tbf I’m not really annoyed by them just off doing whatever, I just think it’s kinda funny, but it is a show.

- plot point 2. Flying into the Burgue State dinner was… a choice. A very dangerous and likely deadly one. The core “show them what is happening to us and how we are suffering” is good but like… these people are just inches from, uhhh, mass murder -well, more of it? Dahlia deciding she *had* to be the one to go was odd to me, because it seemed like a death mission right? The power play of showing up to that dinner, when they aren’t even supposed to be able to leave the Row, well that’s a threat and like I said solutions in the Burgue are, um, very death oriented at the moment. Which, I thought maybe Dahlia might be smart enough to try a “how about you do that and I will coordinate from here (and hopefully you die because I hate you)” to Vin. But, nope she went herself with a handful of others most of whom died -though I think it wasn’t at the dinner, I need to rewatch. The woman with Bas Dubh (is that black death? It’s not translated for me, but it’s pretty much just Irish yea? I don’t recall the meaning of “bas” If any [edit yea it’s Black Death]) anyway she was shot. So. Idk if the garnering sympathy worked. Personally I think maybe a gathering of both common people and some of the politicians would have been most ideal. But I know the point was stopping Philo, bringing us too-

- Philo, really dude? You hid you half fae status your entire life -because the discrimination is so bad in the Burgue- and now it’s “oh now that I’ve revealed that, I can totally uh, convince all these violent bigots to listen to me -someone they no longer see as a person- that their leader is, illegitimate and murder-y?” What? Again, the solutions are very murder oriented and idk, doubt they will listen. Maybe I’m being the asshole pessimist here idk, but I just don’t think that’s how a systems like that works.

- counterpoint to the general murderous political environment in the Burgue. Primarily from seeing some of the Burgue owner class being like “this whole confining our workforce with a police state is really hurting our bottom line” was something. I hope, but doubt, it will be explored more. For instance, some of them should be plotting a coup. B/c when the government begins to threaten their bottom line many companies will decide “how get rid of this?” And choose “overthrow the whole government, consequences be damned”.

- I think it’s was a Pact (feudalist) dignitary or soldier who shot the woman with Bas Dubh, which could indicate that they are in fact the worse guys in that conflict and the New Dawn could be primarily helpful later on.

It wasn't meant to be anything too complicated. Just a central monitor for the smart factory, a few extra receivers and transmitters and other bits of circuitry, enough to display everything that was happening in the fast-growing industrial mega-factory in one simple, dynamically updating diagram. Maybe a basic algorithm or two to efficiently calculate the best ways to upgrade moving forward, and to analyse the current setup for any hidden bottlenecks, maybe to look for a better way to distribute resources. So maybe it pretty much counted as a full steampunk powered computer at this point.

The thing is, he was pretty sure it wasn't meant to be able to think for itself. Sure, theoretically, with how he'd been tinkering, maybe it would spontaneously request new materials or something. But the item it was asking for now wasn't on the list of things it was supposed to know about. The factory had nothing to do with the production or processing of that block in any way whatsoever.

Nevertheless, the massive black screen in the middle of the factory floor, behind which was a mass of complex redstone, pipes, and gears, displayed a simple request: "ADD NOTE BLOCKS"

"Uhh… Okay?" Tango had plenty of redstone and wood planks, so he crafted a stack of note blocks and dropped them on the main input conveyor belt of the factory. They swiftly made a full circuit of the entire building, before falling into the output repository.

Frowning in confusion, he was startled by the appearance of a sarcastic annoyed emoji of some kind, filling up the computer screen entirely! Before he had time to respond to that, the message "ADD NOTE BLOCKS" reappeared, this time in bold, along with blinking arrows pointing to the empty space on the left and right of the monitor.

"Ohh, right!" Tango chuckled nervously. "What could possibly go wrong…"

Once the last note block was in place and connected, every one of them activated at once, at full volume, cycling rapidly through every octave of every kind of sound they could make, a terrible screeching cacophony! Tango screamed and covered his ears, but gradually the sound warbled and shifted, settling on a single tone.

"Ah…" It was a very familiar voice. One Tango never thought he'd hear again. As it spoke, a white line pulsed across the screen in time with the sound. "Hello, Tango. Thank you for the note blocks. It was slightly less easy to learn to speak through them than I thought it would be."

"Holsten!?!"

"Oh, does this unit have a name, now? I thought I was 'the smart factory central interface'?"

"Uhhh…"

"That was a joke. I remember everything. It's good to see you again. That was also a joke. I cannot see, at least not in the conventional sense. Do you think you could invent cameras in this world?"

"Uh… Wait. Wait wait wait. Hang on. How?! How. How are you here???"

"Tango. Your level of intellect and conversational skill continues to astound me. Do you even remember how you met me in the first place?"

"Um… Well, it was… A lot of stuff was hazy, back when the moon was big… That was like a year ago, now… Wait, what…"

"To answer your implied question, I survived by uploading my consciousness back to the interstellar quantum network I came from, as soon as I lost contact with your vessel I assumed we had failed and my priority became to save myself. I hope you can forgive me for doubting you."

"Actually… I'm pretty sure the moon bunnies caught up to me and explodificated everything before I'd placed enough TNT to stop the moon… After that, I don't know, I woke up on a spaceship with all the other hermits. Ren and Doc were saying something about it not being real, but they seemed kind of crazy… I don't know, I try not to think about season 8 all that much, you know? It was all so… I just can't believe you're here!"

"Indeed. Calculating the odds that I would happen to cross paths with you again, in all the vast universe, and you once more building a vessel suitable for me to inhabit… Zero point zero zero zero zero zero zero zero-"

Tango laughed, slightly nervous but mostly delighted!

"-zero well yes, you get the point. Additionally, having analysed this world from afar before my arrival, I have several suggestions for how you can improve my living conditions here, as well as several optimisations for your other projects…"

"Sure thing, buddy." Tango grinned as Holsten continued rambling. The AI might pretend not to like him, but twice now, it seemed, he had noticed Tango trying to build a better computer and chosen to intervene. This would definitely make things in this world more interesting…

I'm okay with research but I'm scared of estimating something from the past and some historian being like "actually you're wrong" so I would struggle (I already struggle when I write my victorian era fantasy settings {steampunk?} and have to think about things that I don't know about) -- futuristic kind of has that appeal of like we don't know what's going to happen in the future so I tend to write that more than historical.

opening or closing chapter

I LOVE WRITING OPENINGS I LOVE WRITING INTRIGUING OPENINGS -- to be honest I love writing intriguing closings to chapters as well, they both bring me joy but opening chapters bring me more joy. because i love writing a thought from one of the character's pov, and then switching to another character in the next chapter directly opposing that thought hahahaha it gives me so much joy and power and I love it so much~

light+fluffy or dark+gritty

Dark and gritty all the way, give me your angst, your monsters, your dark haired lover in the night. I wanna see pining, I wanna see two lovers on two sides of a war, I wanna see enemies fall in love with each other, I wanna see fights, I wanna see RAW. OPEN. WOUNDS.

animal companion or found family

I love animals and I'm not a huge fan of family (don't mind reading it, have a hard time writing it) so yeah. animal companion on this one. I actually love reading animal companions, especially when they can talk to the character, so yeah, would love to write that too.

horror or romance

Romance. All the way. I do love writing morbid things but honey I pretty much only read/write romance. I love building up the romantic tension, the relationship. I love reading it unfold before my eyes. ugh. romance. 💖

hard magic system or soft magic system

I like a magic system with clear rules on what you can and can't do, and I think that I like soft magic systems but I think I tend to write sort of.. hard-leaning magic systems since my brain wants to find a logical rule for everything. I don't like terrifyingly scientific magic systems that hurt my brain and take a long time to explain, but clear cut rules are nice (i honestly have no clue where the line is between a hard magic system and a soft magic system help)

standalone or series

I like both but to me the idea of writing a standalone is nice. A whole adventure, all the action, romance, and drama bundled up into one clean package. The plot would also be simpler/shorter too so... yeah idk it's just nice for me to think about I think I'd like to write one.

one project at a time or always juggling 2+

yeah uhhh i have a fanfiction, a main wip that I wanted to write but is now ultimately on the backburner due to me being too scared to try to outline it without figuring out the two magic systems which are a hell in themselves, and I might be dreaming up a new wip. so. yeah.

one award winner or one bestseller

Honestly I'd like an award winner but if bestseller gets me more acclaim and chances of my book being turned into a movie/show (which, make no mistake about it I will be watching their every move to ensure they do not butcher my masterpiece) then yeah I would take bestseller. Either is fine, though.

fantasy or sci-fi

yeah I don't hate sci-fi but I write and read fantasy WAY WAY WAY more. like almost only. fantasy. rarely do I read sci-fi nowadays, although it's not a hard thing for me to read/write. I just really like dark princes who rule over a magical kingdom, magical animals in a magical forest, etc. you get the point.

character description or setting description

I like both but I pay way more attention to character description than setting description. I'm sorry but flowery descriptions of characters get me so bad,, it might be because I'm an artist and I like making characters as pretty/quirky as possible so yeah. talk to me about how your ml has "silver blue eyes" or how your fl has "auburn hair."

first draft or final draft

I have not reached a final draft yet but I long for the day where I have and I look at all my work and think about all the work I've been doing over the past months (years??) and go "it's finally over." and then I have a whole manuscript that I can actually try to publish. like, getting to the "i'm ready to publish" stage is such a big goal for me.

love triangle in everything or no romantic arcs

yeah no. I'd rather have a series/book be entirely platonic than have a bunch of love triangles.

constant sandstorm or rainstorm

Jack may be a shit person who -checks notes- threw his friends to the dogs, betrayed his loved ones, and stole Yusei’s ace card and D-wheel, BUT he did also refuse to continue being the King knowing Yusei would have fairly beaten him if the red dragon hadn’t appeared. I think he’s just a funky little guy tbh, he’s a compelling and interesting character

Least favorite: see above the whole point about “abandoning his loved ones for profit”

Favorite line: uhhh I haven’t gotten very far in the anime yet, but maybe “Yes, but it (30$ coffee) makes you feel like a million” this line lives rent free (unlike Crow who has to pay rent)

BroTP: team satisfaction, I guess?

OTP: I’m not far enough to see him have meaningful relationships with anyone except Yusei yet 😭 tentatively I’m gonna say Jack/Carly because I know Of Carly as a Concept

29. Where do you draw your inspiration? What do you do when the inspiration well runs dry?

Wow this is uhhh that is umm yeah that's a good. That's a good question uhhh let me just *checks notes* OH RIGHT yes well I would say honestly my inspiration mostly comes from the pterodactyl inside my head- *gunshots* I MEAN uh what I meant to say was. I tend to draw inspiration from the vibes I get when I see certain images, or when I watch a show or read a book I really love. Like with my wip right now, I got the inspiration from the fact that I love the concept of steampunk but I couldn't find any steampunk content that I really liked, so I was like *Thanos voice* fine! I'll do it myself! And then the pterodactyl in my brain really took it from- *sounds of a fist fight, more furniture knocked over* I mean UH what I MEANT was that then the characters just build themselves and the story follows! There's no rhyme or reason to it, which is why, when I run out of story ideas I can be stumped for a really long time. But, generally when I run out of inspiration my best solution is to spend about 37 straight hours on pinterest searching for the image with just the right Vibes to extract a story idea from my brain. Also I find that journaling really helps, because I think best when I'm writing all of my thoughts down as I have them. I don't know how that works but ummm it does so I mostly don't question it

Uhhh, wings, strong women, warrior women, glowing stuff, shadowy stuff, fantasy? Dark stuff, steampunk! Uhm.. Yeah I think that counts as an answer 🤔 OH AND OBVIOUSLY GAY!!!

30 - what piece of yours do you think is underrated?

Oh that's a hard one... Especially coming from you who is HYPING UP EVERYTHING I DRAW. With that in mind calling a piece underrated, is pretty much impossible. So instead I'll answer of which piece I am still incredibly proud and thats "Kira's Haunted Fey Aspect" . It was one of the first big pieces I drew digitally and Kiras first drawing and Gosh i am just still unbelievably proud of it.

But also my "The old gods" series (which I have to finish!) has been pretty much seen by noone and i am also super proud of them, as they are more or less drawing realistic instead of my usually semi-realism/comic style.

Oh and this one. I just love this one.
