superpower ideas ✦・゚* .•
I’ve been writing a novel about some characters with some powers, and I thought I’d share those powers if anyone needs inspiration for their own characters !!
I tried to make sure each one isn’t entirely overpowered and if it is it has major drawbacks. I also wanted them to be unique, and to my knowledge none of them are copied from already existing characters. Hope these help with anything you may be writing!!
-✦・゚* .•✦・゚* .•✦・゚* .•✦・゚* .•✦・゚* .•✦・゚* .•✦・゚* .•✦・゚* .•✦・゚* -
Power Name: Sunspot
This is a healing power that converts light/heat energy into usable energy for the human body for healing. The user of the power can heal people or accelerate the healing time of a wound as long as they have access to a natural light source (sun, fire, etc.) The bigger the wound the more time or energy it will take to heal
- ✦・゚* .•
Power Name: Bloodhound
This power gives the user the ability to see people’s trails/paths, as long as they have an object that belongs to the person they’re tracking or have interacted with them recently. Things like water, snow or certain weather can wash away a trail, so there may be gaps or parts of that person’s trail entirely missing. (for the purposes of my novel the power works on ghosts or long dead people as long as the trail isn’t washed away and the user has the person’s possession, but it can also work only on living people if you’d like)
- ✦・゚* .•
Power Name: Dreamwalker
This person can explore/live through the dreams of people they are near and “catalog” them for later use. They can then bring elements of those dreams into reality, things like objects or events. The larger the element the more power it takes to use, and the more severe the drawbacks for the user. Overuse of this power or overfilling their “catalog” can lead to amnesia, drowsiness, and in extreme cases physical pain.
- ✦・゚* .•
Power Name: Sweettalk
This person can influence other people’s thoughts and feelings based on their tone. If they express a certain emotion in their voice, others will also experience that emotion. It is very powerful but also highly uncontrolled. The user has to be incredibly careful to not drive people to depression, uncontrolled anger, or even a state of happiness in which they can feel nothing else.
-✦・゚* .•
Power Name: Shade Speaker (this one is more supernatural, and may not apply to whatever you’re using these powers for)
This person hear the voices of the dead, as long as they are in darkness or shadow. These voices can be helpful or misleading, and it’s up to the user to decide whether or not to take the advice of these voices.

started this superpower au like a month ago and finally got around to colouring the timeline I made for this insane batch of siblings. Won't go much into the au here just because I'm tired but if anyone wants to hear about anythin' specific I can respond :]
Also not set on the "Evo" surname, its more a placeholder than anything but it gets the energy a crossed lol. Any better suggestions are welcome.

I’m getting tired of people with hypermobility dominating every single discussion about terminal illness and death & dying especially when most of these people are literally just lying about how short their life expectancy is and will go on to live way longer than me or my mom ever will/did

wait do you have a fav boys character yet ?
i really like butcher but i feel like that's a basic answer and also the wrong answer. in another world id like frenchie but i can't get over how much i hate the actor. I love maeve theres never a moment she's on screen where im thinking get this woman outta here she's always entertaining to me. i like starlight but (and this is probably a bit nasty to say) there's smth a little uncanny valley about her sometimes where when she's talking im not listening but staring at her face trying to see what features throwing me off. I hate ashley but the actress played an insufferable character in jessica jones too and I really appreciate her ability to play The Most annoying woman you know.
centrist answer i like them all (except stormfront. hated her before i even knew she was a nazi. she was on insta live and i was waiting for her to explode and die) but my fave would have to be butcher bc i find im rooting for him the most and constantly justifying his actions. but sometimes karl urbans accent pisses me off. also black noir but he doesn't Do anything so it's hard to have him as a fave bc he's barely there.
#ameeras.got.mail#kieran tag#ik men like soldier boy so ill wait to see him do some evil disgusting horrendous thing that would make most ppl go ew he sucks but make#cis men ages 18-35 go wow hes soo cool#i like kimiko too but i dont think im allowed to say shes my fave when sometimes when shes like i dont want to be a weapon anymore :( im#mad at her and thinking get over it. i like mm but hes kinda this mother hen character and i dont rly tend to favour characters who are the#rational voice of reason like can we please get some conflict here#hughies whatever. i rly like his dad though lets go simon pegg#in the 7: homelander sucks. i find a train fun but his athlete storyline wasnt compelling to me personally bc the more i thought about it#the more i thought his superpower sucks. despite it all i find the deep kinda fun. i like that hes a scientologist.#didnt like transparent. was meh about lamplighter. didnt like whats his name sonicboom?? had a personal vendetta against that hijabi supe#we saw for like 2 seconds girl what are you doing there !!!!!! why are you playing into the diversity market !!!!#like edgar but in the way everyone likes giancarlo esposito's characters#nadia is whatever she was always meh to me even as a background character but i rly love the idea of having the superpower to explode#peoples heads with your mind i cant help but think of the xmen and think about if there was a mutant with the ability to explode heads with#their mind and that was their only ability and what a hard fucking sell that would be for xavier#(ive never read the xmen comics and have only seen some of the movies so i like to imagine charles xavier as lilo in the lilo and stitch#cartoon where every episode she would find an experiment with a unique function to destroy and would have to find it a home where it could#help instead. like yeah this experiment fattens people up and eats them lets put him in a resturant or smth#but with mutants#this mutant makes ice lets send him to a fridge company. this mutant explodes heads lets.... erm.#)

anime dudes looking at a piece of magical girl media and treating it like superhero media is killing me

I find it so funny when stans say that Adrien and other rich kids in the show are "groundbreaking representation" or something because they're not. It's an overused trope that makes all of us appreciate how damn broke we all are because at least "we don't suffer like rich people do". What I mean is, you have Adrien, who's born super mega rich, but is trapped in this golden cage and isn't allowed to be himself. There's a clear link to his suffering and his status as a rich model. He also has an "emotional support poor", Marinette, who is "the only one who understands his pain" and is also "the only one who can ground him". Because unlike rich people, poor people don't have trouble with complicated relationships to their families. And this is very striking in miraculous, every poor person has a good relationship with their family (the biggest family issue was maybe the Luka/Jagged thing but even that got resolved immediately) while the rich kids all suffer abuse. And they do nothing about it not because the writers want to showcase how hard it can be for abuse victims but because they think that's the job of the poor friends they have, mainly Marinette. She is supposed to fix Adrien's family problems for him accordung to the bible, she was Kagami's first friend and had to talk to her mom to let her compete in the friendship game and she even tried to help Chloe's family situation! ... Sorry this got so long, it was just a thought I had and I felt like sharing.
Anon, you're literally so right.
Like, how many characters exist that are just like "privileged child of terrible parent feat. optional heroism or redemption"? I can think of at least 4 in Avatar: tla ALONE. (All of which were done miles and miles better than Adrien.)
Virtually every show, movie or book you point a stick at will have somebody from a privileged background with shitty parents/guardians do something that sets them apart from their background. Virtually every princess archetype is "wah, my parent is so mean by making me get married for the good of the kingdom (my only job). Being rich is terrible."
Like GIRL. "Rich character with sad background" is so overdone!
And Miraculous has got not one, not two, but at least 4 characters who are rich with sad backstories :((( Adrien, Felix, Kagami and Chloe. This isn't even including Lila, Prince Ali, Gabriel or Zoe. And, objectively, none of these characters have any compelling storyline. Kagami I have a soft spot for but objectively, she is also on this list.
None of them are compelling 'richy rich with sob story' characters. Sure, we can pity them, but they're not *compelling*. We're not inspired or moved or awed by them. None of them are original or interesting or unique.
But you're right, anon. They feel like a slap in the face. It's like, its almost like the creators are romanticising the working class. "Oh being rich is so hard, I wish I was like the normal people who work every single day and are so happy because money can't buy happiness."
it's really, really tone deaf, and honestly? Annoying. Like, at least if you're gonna make a rich kid with a sob story at least make them unique or compelling, like Batman or Zuko or Toph.

The Hollow - SuperHero School AU Power Discovery Backstories
SuperHero school au explanation post
Reeve:
- Reeve’s parents died when he was 3 on a Super-Hero mission.
- Once his grandmother took him in, she tried everything to get Reeve to discover his powers. She did this in grief, hoping that Reeve would have his parents powers and the that she’d be able to hold on to a small part of them.
- Because of this, Reeve’s incredibly complicated power was discovered incredibly early.
- At first, Reeve felt pressure, believing he had to live up to all the tremendous stories his grandmother told him about his parents.
- Eventually, his grandmother reassured him that he didn’t have to live up to those expectations. Reeve gladly decided not to care, growing into his own person outside of his powers.
Mira:
- Mira was adopted when she was 5. When her fathers discovered she had powers, It was assumed by them and by the school district that it was genetics.
- This was proven to be false when Mira decided to go back to a lake she’s had fuzzy memories of when she was a child.
- Mira discovers she was in fact slashed by an eerie unidentified creature, one that had somehow found its way out of the ocean and into the lake.
- For some reason, she cannot talk to this creature, but memories flood back and she remembers falling into that exact lake when she was 4, safely returning back to shore with only a small injury and two new powers.
Adam:
- Both of Adam’s parents were Normie’s, so it was a surprise when their son suddenly came home with the strength of a body builder and the agility of a gymnast.
- Turns out, the martial arts/self defense dojo they sent their son to (to stop the bullying) had an instructor who’d been impressed with Adam’s determination and drive.
- The old instructor was a retired Super-Hero. He no longer had a need for his power, a power that’d been passed down for generations. So, he decided to become a self-defense instructor in search of an inheritor.
- Adam was found worthy and was bestowed the power (unknowingly). Adam was given a note by the instructor, explaining everything, but when Adam went to confront him, the instructor was no longer at the dojo.
Vanessa:
- Vanessa’s parents divorced when she was 6. Her mother had floatation powers and her father was a Normie. Vanessa mostly lived with her mother, increasing the desire to have powers instead of being boring and normal like her father.
- One day, on vacation with her parents, she stood a bit too close to the ledge of a bridge. Vanessa bends down to tie her shoes, only to trip and fall off. Both of her parents are too busy arguing to notice her descent.
- That is until she flies. The crowd of tourists clap for her, bringing over her parents attention.
Skeet:
- As a kid, Skeet was a wanderer, constantly giving his single father heart attacks. One day, his father (a nurse) brings Skeet to the hospital to visit, and as always, Skeet wanders.
- Skeet stumbles upon an empty hospital room with a comatose patient. This super-powered patient has specific chemicals being pumped into them due to their super-power requirements.
- Skeet sees the plastic bag of chemicals dripping onto the floor, and being a curious 6 year old, dips his finger in the chemical puddle and licks it.
- His speed powers come in a year later with no explanation. Skeets father rushes him to the hospital and they explain that Skeet swallowed a substance that had a 90% chance of killing him. As shown, Skeet had luckily survived.
Kai:
- Both of Kai’s parents come from a long lineage of super-powered individuals that double in powers. Due to this, his parents have a sense of self-superiority.
- As time passes, Kai feels an immeasurable amount of pressure to have super-powers, especially when he showed no signs of them at the age of 6.
- His parents sent him to every doctor they knew. All they could say was that Kai was a late bloomer (since his parents left no room for discussion of their son possibly being a Normie).
- When he was 13 years old and still showed no sign of powers, his parents gave up on him and abandoned him in Davis’s care. They only visited every few months, enrolling him into The Hollow high-school for super-powered individuals, as a last ditch effort.
- Eventually, at the school, Kai’s powers are discovered. Yet they are still not up to his parents standards, since he only has one power, and its unknown how he received them.

for a character to be "of all time" they need to have smth that distinguishes them from the usual archetype they fulfill in an insane as fuck way. they need to leave you reeling with their every life choice. and those choices are always in character which increases the degree of insanity.

This is an incredibly niche and specific opinion, but I don't like Duke Thomas's eyes being portrayed as 'flecked with gold' or 'honey-coloured' or 'shining golden in the light' or whatever. His natural eye colour should be very dark brown, so that when they glow that bright gold when he uses his powers it feels momentous. It feels like another side of him. Something that came from an immortal, a being who might not even qualify as human; something that makes him question his own humanity and how much his powers are truly a part of himself, or one he wants to accept, at first. There should be such a striking visual contrast that, if the eyes are the windows to the soul, you can see how Duke and the Signal would look like totally different people. Paralleling the contrast of yellow and black in his suit. Also, dark eyes are beautiful.

Having been in the Vo/tron fandom from very shortly after S1 first aired and having stayed at least adjacent to it for the whole long slog up to present day is a curse for many reasons but also because it means most every time I see people try to explain the origin of the anti movement I have to cringe at all the things they are confidently getting wrong
And I’m not going to say anything, I did not save receipts or document this whole stupid phenomenon because it gave me a headache then and it gives me a headache now and I am simply not interested in being your discourse historian
But I am just standing in a corner like

Hanawa has established that he's a man who's interested in other people. In his first fight with Taiyo, I said that he seemed to be testing Taiyo, trying to see if he was as capable as the Yozakura name implied. This entire fight feels like another test. Specifically, I think Hanawa is testing Taiyo's emotional endurance.
It’s not enough to be a good spy physically and mentally. You also have to be a good spy emotionally—you have to focus on your target, ignoring all distractions and personal biases, and disregard all morality except your own (or that of your client’s). So in this fight, Hanawa (1) taunts Taiyo, (2) messes with his sense of right and wrong, and (3) manipulates his conscience. He's specifically aiming for the part of Taiyo that wants to save people, the part that Hanawa thinks motivated Taiyo to save that little girl.
But what does Taiyo do? He looks Hanawa in the eye and says "I don't care." He makes it clear that he's not interested in the "right" or "wrong" of the situation, even going so far as to admit that he never thought he was in the right. He's simply decided to protect what's important to him.
And to be clear, Taiyo isn't saying that he doesn't care about other people's wellbeing or that he wouldn't save them if it were possible. He's simply focusing his line of vision, streamlining his priorities so that Hanawa's jabs don't get to him. Mutsumi needs saving. Taiyo will save her. And if he needs to make a choice between Mutsumi or the greater good, he'll choose Mutsumi, consequences be damned.
