[ID: a gif of Ives wearing his military uniform. He turns to leave while saying "This is cowboy shit. You have no idea what you're getting yourself into if you go through that door. End ID.]
“Don’t,” Ives said grabbing Neil’s arm stopping him from getting up. It was one of the very rare missions in which Ives didn’t have to wear his gear. They were there to recruit you. Usually, Ives wasn’t involved in the recruitment, but nobody knew you the way he did. For this reason, Neil had asked him to join the mission this time. The two of them were sitting in a bar in their suits looking at you just a few tables away from them.
Neil turned to look at him confused. “What?”
“Don’t recruit them,” Ives said looking at him serious before glancing at you, busy with your book.
“What are you talking about? If we don’t recruit them, you two won’t ever meet,” he tried to make him reason.
“I can still go there and talk to them without recruiting them.”
Neil shook his head. “What is this all about?” He was starting to think it hadn’t been the best idea to take Ives with him.
Ives glanced at you then looked back at Neil and sighed. “It’s just… Our work is so dangerous, and it will bring so much pain in their life… I wish they didn’t have to go through that,” he said sincerely.
Neil understood but he knew there was no other way this could go. “I know, but they love this job, and they are our best agent, you know how much the world needs them.”
Ives sighed again and nodded. “I know.”
Neil patted his back. “Come on.”
“I’m just going to kill whoever hurts them,” he mumbled.
Neil chuckled. “I know you will.” Something caught his eye. “Oh, and take off your wedding ring.”
Ives looked at him as if he had suddenly grown two heads. “Are you crazy, they would kill me if I did.”
“I know but they can’t see you with the ring on now or they will think you are taken and won’t ever act on their future feelings,” Neil pointed out. Ives reluctantly took the ring off and put it on the chain of his dog tag.
They got up and walked to your table.
Feeling their presence next to you, you looked up and smiled at them politely. “Can I help you gentlemen?”
you asked noticing how handsome they were.
“May we join you?” Neil asked, since Ives seemed he had lost his tongue.
“Please, be my guests,” you said pointing at the free chairs around the table. You were curious to hear what they wanted from you. They clearly had a goal, it seemed as if they were on a mission.
They sat down and your eyes lingered longer on Ives. His blue eyes had captured you.
“I’m Neil and my friend here,” he gestured towards Ives, “is Ives.” You looked back to Neil and then again to Ives. “We are here to offer you a job.”
You looked at Neil wide-eyed. “What? You don’t know me, why would you want to hire me and for what job?”
“We have a feeling,” Ives said, talking for the first time and, boy, did that voice do things to you.
You stared at him. “Do you often hire people based on… feelings?” you managed to ask.
“Not exactly. We… kept an eye on you and we think you are the perfect person for the job. You would get to help a lot of people,” Neil explained, not quite satisfying you.
“Are you… are you secret agents?” you asked suspicious and a little scared. Those people had probably been following you.
“Something like that,” Neil said with a smile.
You stayed silent for a moment then gathered your things and got up. “It was very… creepy meeting you. Have a nice day, gentlemen.”
As you were leaving Ives pulled out a black business card from his pocket and handed it to you. “In case you changed your mind.”
You took it and looked at it. On one side there was written “TENET” and Ives’ name and surname in smaller letters, on the other side there was an address. You were unsure if you wanted to keep the card or not. You looked him in the eyes and decided to keep it, then you left. It was weird, you had no reason to trust them, in fact you knew that following common sense you shouldn’t trust them, but somehow you felt you could.
When you were out of earshot, Ives sighed and put his wedding ring back on. “They were right. It was very creepy, why did we do it this way?”
“Did you have a better idea?”
“I’m not the expert of recruitments, here,” he pointed out. “If I don’t get married to them it’s all your fault.”
Neil chuckled. “You already are married to them.”
It took you almost a week to finally decide to go to the address written on the card. You had looked “TENET” up on the internet, but you hadn’t find anything. So, either it was a super-secret agency, way more than CIA, KGB and MI6, or the men had lied. Somehow, the fact that there was nothing about that online, made you think that they were telling the truth. They had made quite an effort for the business cards, why not going all the way and create a website too to make their lie more believable, if they were lying? Right?
You simply couldn’t stop thinking about it and obviously the only thing you could do to be sure was to go and find out more.
You were surprised to find yourself in front of one of the most central and beautiful buildings of London. You checked the address twice to be sure it was the right one. It seemed it was, so you walked in and looked around. You spotted a receptionist behind a counter. You walked closer.
“Good morning. I’m here to see… Ives? Or Neil?” you said, sounding less sure than you would have liked.
“What’s your name?”
As soon as you told him your name, he nodded. “Please, follow me, Neil is waiting for you.”
Of course he knew you were arriving. You followed the man through a long corridor and then up the stairs. The place was quite busy, so you had to slalom between the people moving around. Some looked at you as if they knew you, other didn’t even look your way.
The two of you stopped in front of a door and your chauffeur knocked. A voice from inside, invited you in. The man opened the door and announced you, then let you in. Neil was there, standing behind a desk, smiling at you. He went around the desk and offered you his hand. You shook it and then you sat down as he had invited you to do.
He turned to the man that had led you there. “Please, ask Ives to come here, he should finish the training in a few minutes.” The man left and Neil went to take his seat behind the desk.
“I’m happy you came,” he said, and somehow you knew he was sincere.
“But you already knew I would, didn’t you?”
He smiled. He did. “I know this might sound a little odd, but I would really like for you to work with us. Our organization’s aim is that of preventing terrible things from happening.”
You stopped him before he could go on to explain whatever it was they did. “How is it possible that there is no record of your organization anywhere?”
“It’s because it is a very secret organization. Nobody can know about its existence.”
You weren’t fully convinced but you let him go on.
“Look, I think your knowledge and your abilities would be very helpful for us. Of course we would train you and brief you on everything you need to know to work with us. I can’t be any more specific unless you accept the job and pass the basic training.”
You snorted. “Of course.”
You heard the door behind you open. You turned and saw Ives coming in wearing his training clothes and he had no right looking that good in them. “You wanted to see…” he couldn’t finish the sentence because he noticed you and looked at you as if he didn’t believe you were really there and maybe a bit as if you took his breath away.
“Hey,” you let out.
He swallowed. “Hey.”
“Come in, Ives. I was telling them about the training, but I’m sure you could explain it better,” Neil said with a knowing smile.
“Yeah, I could give them a tour of the facility,” he replied, still looking at you.
“This is a great idea.” He got up and so did you. You shook hands.
“I’m sure I’ll see you soon.”
“Of course, you’re always very sure I’ll come back,” you pointed out.
He simply chuckled.
Ives held the door open to let you out and glanced at Neil who winked at him. Then he followed you out and closed the door behind.
“This way.” He showed you the way and you walked next to each other towards the nearest elevator.
“I don’t know what Neil told you, but I guess it’s not much,” he finally spoke as you reached the elevator, and he pressed the button.
“Nothing really. He just said that he can’t tell me anything unless I pass the basic training,” you replied.
He finally looked at you and smiled. You hadn’t seen his smile before then. It made his eyes shine. “You will.” The doors of the elevator slid open and the two of you walked in. “That is if you decide to join us, of course.” He pushed one of the many numbers. You were quite surprised to see there were so many and most of them seemed to be underground.
“And you know I’ll pass it because?” you asked arching your brow.
“Because I’d be the one training you,” he replied amused.
“Oh, I see you are all very sure of the future.”
“I guess you could say so,” he confirmed nodding.
You looked at each other for a long moment, nobody said anything. The elevator dinged and the doors slid open. Ives stretched an arm, inviting you to leave first. You stepped out and he followed you. You were several floors underground and everything looked very different and more modern there.
“I’ll show you how we train. It’s very similar to how they do it in the military,” he said walking closer to walls in which there were big windows that allowed to look down in a huge gym where people were either fighting or running or climbing the walls.
“See? Nothing too hard.”
“Are you saying you think I couldn’t do anything harder than that?” you asked pretending to be offended.
He smiled amused. “On the contrary, but I don’t want to scare you away.”
“Now you’re implying that I’m easily scared,” you pointed out, unable to hide a small smile.
He chuckled. “If you were, you wouldn’t be here.” He had a point.
“Come, there is more.”
You followed him through a door and found yourself in the firing range. You looked at the people that were already shooting there and for a second your mind played a weird trick on you because it seemed like instead of shooting, they were calling the bullets back to their guns. It lasted just a second, though, because then, Ives handed you earmuffs and glasses. You wore them and followed him to the nearest firing point.
“Have you ever shot before?” You shook your head. You thought he would have simply shown you how to shoot. You didn’t expect him to ask you to shoot.
“Come here,” he said in an unexpectedly delicate way. You just couldn’t resist, any doubt you were ready to voice was forgotten. You went closer to him. You took warily the gun he was handing you and he positioned himself behind you. He took your hands holding the gun in his and started explaining how to aim but you could barely focus on his words. Having him so close made it hard to think about anything that wasn’t his body pressed against your and his breath tickling your ear.
“Shoot,” he said, and you, without thinking, pulled the trigger. The bullet ended up exactly in the centre of the target, but you were sure it was all thanks to him holding your hands steady. A shaking breath left your lips and you put the gun down.
“Wasn’t hard, was it?” he asked with a smile, pulling back.
You shook your head and took off the glasses and the earmuffs. He took them and the gun and gave it back.
You took the time to calm down.
“Ready to continue?” You nodded and followed him again.
He showed you other training rooms and explained probably more than he should have but the visit ended way too soon anyway.
“I’m afraid that’s it for the moment,” he said when you arrived in the entrance hall.
You nodded. “Well, thank you. It was a pleasure,” you replied offering him your hand.
He shook it. “For me too. I hope it convinced you to join us…” he said looking sincerely hopeful. You wandered if he was like this with everyone.
You offered a small smile. “I will think about it.”
He nodded and you stepped away to leave. You were already halfway to the door when you stopped and turned to look at him. He was still standing there looking at you. “In case I refused, would I still be able to see you again?” you asked.
He hesitated and took a couple step to close the distance between you.
“That would be very hard. My life… My work is my life, and it is a work that doesn’t really allow us to have a life in the outside world… I’m not sure it would work.”
You pressed your lips together and nodded, then turned away and left.

«No. Non hai idea di quanto avrei voluto fosse stato così con me. Sei fortunato, Manuel.»
Lui torna a guardare Simone, con il quale i compagni si stanno congratulando, e annuisce. «Lo so.»
«E hai sentito male.»
«No, ci sento benissimo, io.»
Manuel e Dante restano soli.

[ID: a black and white gif. Chris Schistad, with a Penetrators hoodie and his backpack on his shoulder, walking by Eva and looking at her. She is giving us the back, she has her backpack on and she turns to look at him. End ID.]
You were leaning against the wall enclosing the school while waiting for your friends and you couldn’t take your eyes off your boyfriend who was talking with the other Penetrators across the courtyard. He flashed you some of his charming smiles from time to time and you couldn’t avoid smiling back and blushing. You were so caught up in your interaction that you didn’t notice your best friend.
“You’re staring” she pointed out almost as a greeting.
“Hello to you” you shot back smiling at her.
“You know, I don’t understand why you want to keep it secret, it’s not like anyone could really miss you smiling to each other all the times with heart-shaped eyes” Noora commented.
You shook your head. “I’ve told you already. Chris has an awful reputation and you more than anyone else should understand” you replied giving her a knowing look.
“Should I?” she asked smiling and waving at William, her boyfriend and Chris’ best friend.
Your eyebrows shot up and she couldn’t ignore your gaze anymore. “What? I’m past that, now everyone knows we are together and we are happy” she said while you caught sight of William and Chris leaving their friends and making their way towards the two of you.
“Hey” William said before taking Noora by the hips and kissing her while Chris shot a look that screamed ‘we could be that happy’. You averted your gaze and cleared your voice. They both got the hint and parted but didn’t let each other go.
“Isn’t it a wonderful day to let the world know of your relationship so that you too can kiss each other without bothering us every time we do so?” William asked you with a cheeky smile. That earned him a glare from you.
Noora and William, being respectively your and Chris’ best friends were the only two to know about your relationship but you were regretting letting them know since they both pushed you to let everyone know. You suspected Chris was behind all of this.
Before you could say anything you were joined by your other friends who were completely oblivious of the whole situation.
“Just think about it” he said briefly before kissing Noora on the lips.
“Let’s go Chris, bye girls.”
You didn’t miss the wink Chris sent Eva’s way and she didn’t either. As soon as the two weren’t in earshot, she let out a cry. “Oh my God, he winked at me!”
You were fuming and Noora shot you a glance. You didn’t react but for the rest of the day you said two words at most and that dark look didn’t leave you. It grew even worse as Chris seemed to be flirting with every girl that passed by and especially with Eva. You didn’t know if you hated him more because he was hurting you or because he was leading her on when she actually liked him.
It went on for the whole week and you just couldn’t take it anymore so you decided you wouldn’t go to the party one of his friends would host on Saturday. You couldn’t watch him flirting with every single girl in the house for the whole night.
No matter how many times Noora tried to convince you to go, you were even more stubborn than she was.
When you heard the bell ringing at ten you thought it was her, both your parents and your brother had the keys so it couldn’t be them. Annoyed you stopped the film you were watching and got up from the bed.
“Noora, I’m not coming to that stupid party” you shouted while reaching the door but when you opened it you found Chris instead.
“What are you doing here? My parents could be at home!”
“Noora told me they went out.”
You cursed her.
“Are you already tired of Eva?” you asked rolling your eyes but leaving the door open for him to come in while you went to the kitchen to put on the kettle.
He entered and closed the door behind, following you inside.
“You know it’s not-” he started only to be interrupted by you.
“I know and it pisses me off because she really likes you and you’re playing with her feelings, just like you’re doing with mine, like you do with everyone’s” you lashed out turning to look at him.
He raised his hands surrendering.
“I know I shouldn’t have, I’m sorry” he said calmly.
“You’re sorry? You’re sorry? How many times have I heard it before?” you asked rhetorically turning to put the water in the kettle and putting it on the cooker.
“It’s just- I was angry, ok? I was angry because you want to keep me as your dirty little secret so that your good girl reputation isn’t stained by mine.”
“That’s not why. You know why and it’s not like you ever try to prove me wrong, is it?” you retorted facing him, your tone now calmer.
He pressed his lips together and inspired. You were right and there was no denying it. “Fine, you’re right. I’m sorry and I’ll try to prove you that I really am changed” he said taking a couple of steps towards you. You relaxed accepting it. You would have to do with it for the time being even though you knew it wouldn’t last long.
You nodded and he hugged you.
It was always like this between the two of you. It had begun almost one year ago. You asked him to keep it secret for a while and he accepted if you let him tell it to William. You agreed but after sometime he eventually became tired of the situation and started pushing you to let everyone know. When you refused he started flirting with everyone he laid his eyes on just to piss you off. That time you almost broke up but then he pleaded you not to and you decided to give him another chance and for some time everything was great but then it happened again and again and again. You had become so used to it by now that you were always ready. You didn’t know how it could still be working between the two of you but somehow it did.
The next couple of weeks were great, you spent almost every day together when you weren’t at school, he didn’t seem to have eyes for anyone but you, he had completely forgot about Eva.
She didn’t understand what had happened to make him change so suddenly and she was talking about it with the girls for the umpteenth time. You weren’t really listening.
“I need to go to the toilet” you stated getting up from your spot on the windowsill. They barely nodded before bringing their attention back to Eva.
You were tired of listening to her talking about your boyfriend. You were so lost in your thought about him that you didn’t notice a door on you left flying open before someone pulled you in and closed the door. You were ready to fight but you recognized Chris and give him a small push on the chest.
“What are you doing?” you whispered hardly keeping from smiling.
“I missed you” he said pulling you in a heated kiss you couldn’t resist. Your arms went around his neck without you even noticing.
He pushed you against a desk. You sat on it and he made his way between your legs and started kissing your neck. You knew very well where he wanted to go but you put a hand against his chest and pushed.
“Chris, we can’t, we are at school” you reminded him biting your lower lip trying not to smile.
“I don’t care” he muttered against your skin.
“I know but I do” you said giggling. He pulled back. “I know you do, you always do” he replied bitterly and you knew you were back to fighting.
“Chris, please” you whispered tiredly. You didn’t want to fight but he apparently did. “No Y/N, I am the one pleading you. We have been together for almost a year and you still don’t want people to know” he pointed out.
“Because you haven’t changed as you always promise me to” you retorted hopping off the desk.
“I have changed; I’ve been only with you this whole time, why can’t you see it? Why don’t you understand that since you’ve shown me what love can feel like I don’t care for anyone else?” he asked, a pained look on his beautiful face. The bell rang.
“Because you keep flirting with everyone” you replied shaking your head and feeling the tears coming to your eyes. Without giving him the time to reply you left, not wanting to cry in front of him.
After that you didn’t see each other for weeks. He had exams and you kept to yourself; even Noora didn’t see you all that much, you didn’t really feel like staying with the girls.
As hard as you tried, however, you couldn’t ditch that damn party at William’s to celebrate the end of the school. You knew there would be no avoiding Chris there. As soon as you walked in you spotted him but you were able to go unseen for a whole hour before he found you in the kitchen grabbing the third beer of the night.
“We need to talk” he said right away.
You hesitated.
“Please” he insisted and he seemed almost desperate. You nodded and left the unopened bottle on the counter following him out of the flat and then the palace.
You stopped only once you were in the street and waited for him to talk.
“I... I’m sorry for saying it now that we’re not even speaking but I didn’t want to leave without telling you” he began and a shiver went down your back. You didn’t know it was for the chilly air or if was for his words.
“Leave? What do you mean? Where are you going?” you asked bringing you arms around yourself to fend the cold off. You hadn’t thought of taking your jacket with you.
He took his off and put it on your shoulders.
“I decided to join the army” he said and the world around you started spinning incredibly fast.
You felt the words getting stuck in your throat and tears came to your eyes instead.
“Why?” you finally managed to whisper.
“I want to get my head together and take my time to decide what to do afterwards” he said getting closer to you and putting his hands on your arms.
“It is not your fault” he added guessing your thoughts. Your tears started flowing and he hugged you.
“When are you leaving?” you whispered.
“In two days.”
“Two days?” you asked faintly.
“I’m sorry” he whispered squeezing you to his chest.
“Please tell me it’s going to be okay” you pleaded him. You knew it wouldn’t change anything but you needed to hear that from him.
“It’s going to be ok, I promise” he said and you nodded.
He pulled apart and looked at you. “Please don’t cry” he said drying your tears delicately with his thumbs.
“Just smile. I really need you to smile right now. I will need to think of your wonderful smile when I will be away and missing you.”
You tried to do your best but only managed to smile weakly. He smiled back and pulled you back in the hug.
Months had gone by and you still missed him as much as you did the first day. You didn’t know how it was possible. Before he left you both decided it would be better not staying in contact but you regretted it now. Not knowing how he was doing was killing you; the only news being those William passed you through Noora. It was her who told you he was back. She barely had the time to finish the sentence before you ended the call and put your jacket on leaving the house without bothering telling anyone where you were going.
You ran all the way there and when you finally got to the door you were spent. Still out of breath you rang the bell. You didn’t need to wait too long for the door to open showing an extremely surprised Chris.
“How...?” he began but he was interrupted by William. “Oh, wow, that was quick” he commented seeing you. “I’ll leave you two alone” he said winking at you.
“Thanks” you whispered, a small smile on your lips.
“We’ll see soon, yeah?” he asked Chris who nodded, still a little bit confused.
William left and you followed Chris inside.
Chris closed the door and as soon as he turned you hugged him.
“Please don’t leave ever again, I’ll tell the world that we are together, I’ll put banners around the city if I can get you to stay” you blurted out making him laugh. He hugged you back.
“So we are back together?” he asked and you nodded without hesitation. “I’m lost without you” you admitted.
“Oh God, I love you and I’m not leaving again” he said looking you in the eyes before kissing you deeply.

[ID: a gif of Chris Schistad surrounded by his friends. He is smiling at his phone. Someone shoves him and he turns toward them laughing. End ID.]
You were reading peacefully in the school yard, cup of hot black coffee on the wooden table in front of you and a book in your hand. You didn’t need much to be happy. The only think you wanted was people to stay away from you as much as possible, especially in the morning. What was wrong with those people who liked to talk in the morning you didn’t know, you simply hoped they didn’t try to talk to you. Most morning you were lucky, unfortunately that wasn’t one of them.
“Hey, would you like to be part of the theatre group?” a high-pitched voice asked and a flyer was put right under your nose, preventing you from continuing to read your book.
You looked up to see a blond, nice, stupid-looking girl with a bright smile on her lips and a girl who had a funny face and seemed to be there by mistake.
Your glare seemed to scare them a little. They almost jumped back and the blond girl left the flyer on your book. “I’ll leave it here, think about it” she said with a brief smile before leaving dragging her friend with her by the elbow.
You lifted your eyebrows. After all it was quick, you considered smiling to yourself. Your smile was wiped from your face as soon as you saw the last person you would ever want to see walking along with his friends towards the entrance of the building.
You crumpled the flyer and closed the book, taking your coffee and your backpack and getting up. You headed quickly to the entrance of the building opening the door some seconds before one of those assholes could and almost hitting said asshole in the face. You walked inside ignoring the comments and the glares that followed you almost everywhere. You had become very good at it during the years. It had begun the first year of high school. You and Chris had always been friends, you couldn’t remember a time when you weren’t, nobody had ever questioned your friendship until high school. Everyone started wondering why a handsome boy like him would be friend with someone as insignificant as you were. It hurt at the beginning but you still had him by your side as always and you thought it would be like this forever. How stupid and naïve of you. You almost didn’t notice as he drifted away from you, it had begun with him being included in an all-boys group. You were okay with that, you were happy he had other friends, he was a wonderful person and he deserved to be appreciated. He still made time for you. You spent some afternoons together doing homework or just hanging out, and you had movie night every Saturday evening. You had never loved parties but Chris always tried to convince you to come with him, until he stopped. What hurt the most was that he didn’t even tell you he was going to a party, you had found out the next day, when you heard the rumours of him fucking some random girl. You thought you told everything to each other. You had confronted him about it, he had apologized and everything was fine again or at least it seemed so. However, something was irremediably broken and nothing you did could bring things back to how they were before. He started making excuses to skip your afternoons together and he preferred partying to movie nights, till he simply stopped acknowledging your existence. He had replaced you with nothing less than William Magnusson, the most popular guy of the school. You didn’t understand why he was so popular: he wasn’t handsome or intelligent or kind. You were suddenly alone. The good thing that came with that was that after a couple of months of rumours about you and Chris not being friends anymore, you were forgotten. You were invisible and you loved it. It would have been a lie to say that his behaviour didn’t hurt you but at some point you just stopped caring. Sometimes you felt angry when you saw him with his new friends. He seemed happy and you asked yourself if maybe it was your fault, maybe he wasn’t that happy with you but then you remembered how he had treated you and nobody deserved to be treated like that, hence, the anger. Anyway, most of the times you just ignored it.
You always sat alone in the school canteen and you liked having a table all for yourself so you could read or write or do your homework without having to make conversation with someone and you had a lot of space. Everyone knew you were a loner, and nobody dared asking you to sit at your table after you had scared a first-year last year. Therefore, you were surprised to hear someone asking you if they could sit there. You took your eyes off your book and looked at the person in front of you. You recognised one of Chris’ asshole friends with a stupid smile on his idiotic face.
“No” you said going back to your book. He ignored it and sat on the other side of the table. You ignored him.
“You know, Andersen, books can’t fuck you, I bet you will die a virgin” he said. You heard his friends laughing from a table not far from yours.
“And tell me, who was the one who fucked your brain out? Because I can’t believe you were born that stupid” you replied not taking your gaze off the pages.
A chorus of “oh” rose from the group.
“Oh come on, if you go on like this, nobody will want to fuck you. Don’t you want me to fuck you?” he continued, not noticing that in that precise moment Chris had made his entrance in the canteen and was witnessing the scene as confused as he could ever be.
“Not even if you were the last man on the planet” you snorted closing your book and taking your backpack leaving him without another word. On your way out you bumped into Chris who was still standing on the door but you didn’t stop to apologise.
He was still confused and a little shocked. He made his way to the table where his friends were talking and joking about you.
“I mean if only she wasn’t a pain in the ass I would really fuck her, she is hot” said Julian.
“She wouldn’t want you to fuck her, I think she likes to be alone” retorted Theo.
“Wash your mouth before saying shit about her” Chris interjected angrily. The Penetrators looked at him surprised.
“I-I didn’t mean to...” Theo tried to say before being interrupted by Chris. “Save it” he said leaving.
He found you in the school yard, your book in your hands as always. He sat in the bench opposite to you, on the other side of the table. You looked up and rolled your eyes. “What the fuck do you want, now?” you asked, annoyance clear in your voice.
“I... I wanted to apologise for their behaviour.”
You snorted. “You wanted to apologise for someone else’s behaviour when you not once tried to be forgiven for what you did. Bold of you” you commented.
He sighed. “You’re right, I never told you how sorry I am for how I treated you, I was an asshole and you didn’t deserve it” he said sincerely. “I just really miss talking with you” he admitted.
You didn’t give any sign of having listened to him talking but he knew you had.
“I... I’m worried about you. You’re always by yourself; you don’t have any friend...”
“I did have a friend once and he left me for a group of assholes, I don’t want to have to deal with that shit all over again” you said coldly not looking at him. “And guess who’s fault it is if we don’t talk anymore” you said looking accusingly at him. You didn’t wait for an answer. “I’ll help you with that because staying with those brainless idiots might have fucked all your brain cells as well: it was you.”
Once more you closed your book taking all your belongings and left. Chris sighed.
 “Can I sit here?”
Seriously, this was starting to be a little bit too much. You didn’t need to look at the person in front of you to know who had talked. “No” was your abrupt reply.
He ignored it and sat in front of you making you roll your eyes. It had been going on for days. Since the day Chris had apologized, he had started to notice you again. He always greeted you, he smiled whenever he saw you, and he asked to be paired with you for group works and so on. You couldn’t take it anymore. You had been ignoring him as always but, apparently, it wasn’t enough.
“What’s so hard for you to understand in the sentence ‘leave me alone’?” you asked irritated.
“I just want to make things right between us because I miss you.”
“Save your time, I don’t want you around and I don’t want you to make things right” you replied trying to finish your fish as soon as possible so you could go away from him.
He opened his mouth again to say something but before he could, someone called his name. You both looked at the person and found a brown-haired girl in a Penetrators’ hoodie smiling widely while walking towards him. You shook your head and got up, even though you hadn’t finished your food yet and left without another word. When Chris turned back to you, you were gone.
Since you couldn’t finish your lunch, you decided you would at least have a coffee from the vending machine. On your way there you kept thinking about that poor girl that looked so excited, he had probably fucked and forgotten her, while she ingenuously had fallen for him. You felt sorry for her and your hatred for him grew just a little more. You were almost there when you heard someone running behind you. You turned to see the person and you found Chris, again. You turned and sighed keeping walking while he reached you.
“Why did you leave?” he asked out of breath.
“I told you I don’t want you around” you said stopping at the vending machine.
“I’ll pay it” he hurried to say putting some coins into the machine.
“There is no need” you replied annoyed. “I can pay my own coffee” you assured.
“I know, I’m not doing it because I think you can’t, I just want to be polite” he said while you pushed the button for the black coffee.
“You want to be polite? You should stop treating women like shit fucking them and then leaving them” you retorted taking your coffee and leaving him there. Apparently, you hadn’t been clear enough, because once more he was following you.
“Please, let me prove that I’m changed.”
“I know you are” you assured him.  “You changed for the worst and that’s why I don’t want to have anything to do with you” you said, for the first time you weren’t angry, just sad.
He didn’t stop trying to fix things between the two of you but he was somehow less annoying. Nevertheless, you kept rejecting his attempts.
You were in front of the school waiting for your brother to pick you up when someone stopped beside you. You rolled your eyes already knowing who it was. He hesitated for a moment. “I... I was wandering if you maybe would like to come to the party at my house tomorrow night. I would like to have you there” he said softly, almost as if in that way there would be more probability you would go.
You saw your brother’s car getting closer. “No” you answered quickly before getting into the car that had just stopped in front of you. Your brother leaned to look at Chris and he smiled waving at him.
“Hey Chris, how are you?” he asked friendly.
“Hey Alex, I’m fine, and you?” Chris asked back, genuinely happy to see your brother after such a long time.
Your brother noticed you tensing and understood.
“Fine, thanks. We should go now, don’t want to keep the princess waiting” he said with a smile, referring to you. You rolled your eyes. He always called you princess when you were alone but you hated it when he did so in front of other people.
“Sure, bye.”
“Bye.”
Then, the two of you were gone.
“So you two are friends again?” Alex asked earning a glare from you.
“Okay, sorry for asking” he said raising one hand in surrender while the other was still on the steering wheel.
You sighed and started explaining what had happened in the last few weeks and he listened.
When you had told him everything and you shut up he finally spoke.
“I think you should give him a chance. You said he invited you to this party, then go!” he encouraged you.
You snorted. “I don’t like the person he has become. He treats girls like shit, the drinks a lot and he is always with those assholes” you retorted.
“Well, he is spending a lot of time with you lately, am I wrong?” He looked at you, already knowing the answer and you nodded.
“Maybe spending time with you made him more intelligent” he suggested amused, winking at you.
“Maybe.”
He pushed a little in your ribs with his elbow making you smile. “Yes?” he asked smiling.
“Fine, I’ll go” you finally gave in, making him smile triumphantly.
“I’ll bring you there” he offered.
“There is no need. I won’t run” you promised.
“I’m going out with my friends anyway.”
“Okay, thanks” you said with a small smile.
You texted Chris to let him know you would go to his damn party but you regretted it instantly. He started texting you like nothing had happened between you and you still were best friends. You ignored him.
The following night your brother dropped you in front of Chris’ house. You smiled and kissed him on the cheek, thanking him and he told you to have fun and winked before leaving.
You had barely made it inside the house before Chris was by your side. You rolled your eyes.
“I need some alcohol before I deal with you” you announced and you found a glass full of what seemed vodka in your hand.
“Now you can deal with me” he said cheerfully. “I’m happy you came. Thank you” he added sincerely.
You downed the vodka in one go. “You shouldn’t thank me. You should thank my brother, he convinced me.”
His smile seemed to be a little less bright than before but it stayed there. “I will when I see him” he assured while you poured yourself some more vodka.
Two hours, six shots and at least ten girls trying to hit on Chris and just as many rejections from him later, you decided you needed some time alone. You excused yourself, leaving Chris before he could add anything else, and you headed for the toilet. You had to avoid way too many drunken people and you saw some couples snogging so hard you were almost worried they might be glued to one another’s lips for the rest of their life, but you made it to your destination. You sighed deeply as you closed the door behind you. You went to the sink and washed your face to sober up a little and ease the heat you felt on your cheeks. It wasn’t until you looked at your face in the mirror that you remembered you were wearing make-up. You weren’t used to have it on so you had forgotten it and now your face seemed an artwork by Pollock. You washed it all away using only some soap. When you were finally done, you decided to call your brother to come and pick you up, you had been there long enough. You took your phone and looked worriedly at the screen when you saw how many calls there were from your parents. They knew where you were so there was no reason for them to be worried about you. You immediately thought something terrible had happened. You called your mom and she answered after only a couple of rings. You didn’t have the time to ask what was wrong that she started talking. You could hear from her voice that she was crying. She articulated a whole sentence but you only heard “Alex”, “car crash” and “hospital”. You didn’t say a word for a while, too shocked to be able to do so.
“I... I’ll be there as soon as possible.” you were finally able to say.
“Please, be careful” she pleaded you in a tearful voice. You nodded before realizing she couldn’t see you. “I will,” you promised.
You stormed out of the toilet only to find Chris waiting for you outside the door. He immediately sensed something was wrong. “What happened?” he asked softly, coming closer to you and looking worried at you.
“A-Alex... Please, take me to the hospital” you pleaded him; your blank stare seemed to pass through him without seeing him. He didn’t wait any further. He nodded and took your hand, guiding you out of the house and to the car. You had a hesitation in front of it. Your brother was in the hospital because of that hellish thing. Chris looked at you expectantly. “Get on, we need to be there as soon as possible” he encouraged you softly, from the other side of the car.
You gathered your courage and entered and he did the same.
You don’t remember much of that trip. You were extremely rigid and didn’t move. Your blank stare was fixed on the street in front of you. You didn’t even notice you were shivering, but Chris did and put a hand on your arm, asking if you were cold. You didn’t answer but he turned up the heating.
When he stopped in front of the hospital, you seemed to pull yourself together and in no time you were out of the car. Before he could tell you to wait for him, you had already passed the glass doors and were heading to the reception to ask where he was.
The nurse asked if you were a relative because she couldn’t give any information to anyone who wasn’t. You said that you were his sister so she started looking through the folders, too slowly for your likings. You were getting impatient when Chris arrived and put a hand on your back, trying to comfort you a little. The nurse finally found what she was looking for, she said the floor and the ward and before she had the time to add anything else, you were running to the closest elevator pushing all the possible buttons. Chris was hot on your heels. You didn’t have to wait too long for the elevator but every minute was an agony for you. You needed to see your brother as soon as possible and be sure he would be better soon. When the doors of the elevator opened, you sprinted out, followed by Chris and started looking around finally founding your parents. Your mum noticed you first and as you got close enough she hugged you tight.
“Where is he?” you asked pulling apart and looking at her watery eyes.
“He is in surgery” your father answered instead. He was clearly trying to keep himself together but his voice was shaky. At that your mother started to cry again and you hugged her.
“Will... will he survive?” you forced yourself to ask your father even if you didn’t even want to think about the possibility of him leaving you. His eyes became wet, mirroring yours and he shook his head. “I-I don’t know” he admitted turning and covering his face with his hands, trying to hold in the sobs.
Chris was standing there, feeling completely powerless and an intruder in that intimate and delicate moment. Your mother noticed him and, despite all the things you had told her about him after you had stopped being friends, she smiled.
“Oh Chris, you’re here too” she said drying her tears on a tissue before hugging him. He hugged her back and smiled faintly. You definitely couldn’t be annoyed at them right now. You went to sit next to your dad and hugged him.
It had been hours since you had sat on that terribly uncomfortable and rigid chair and you weren’t planning on moving soon. You were tired but you didn’t want to fall asleep until you were sure your brother was better so you had downed three cups of coffee Chris had offered to provide. Somehow his presence was reassuring; it kept you in touch with reality.
When you finally saw a doctor walking towards you, you jumped from your sit drawing your father attention to the man. He got up slowly, as if he had a tremendous weigh on his shoulders, and so did your mother and Chris.
The doctor’s expression sent chills down your spine and you suddenly knew. You didn’t need to hear those words to know that everything was lost.
You stopped listening to him after “I’m sorry” and spaced out.
Your brother was gone and you now felt completely empty, for some unknown reason you weren’t even able to cry, talk or scream. You mother did it for you. She would have fallen on the floor if it hadn’t been for your father. She burst into tears and started screaming Alex’s name. Your father pressed her to his chest and stroked her back in a soothing motion which could nothing against that unbearable pain. He pressed a firm kiss on her head and closed his eyes trying to stay strong.
You couldn’t move, Chris put his hands on your shoulders and looked you in your eyes but you didn’t seem to notice.
“Yell, scream, cry, please, just say something, anything” he begged you.
“I-If you don’t hug me right now I think I might fall apart” you whispered. If he hadn’t been so attentive to catch any sign from you, he would’ve missed it but he didn’t and he hugged you tightly.
Most days you still wanted to cry since you woke up in the morning till you went to bed and it wasn’t unusual for you to fall asleep crying in Alex’s bed wearing his clothes. You went to the cemetery every day and spent hours there talking to him about anything, sometimes crying. He seemed to be your constant thought but there were some rare moments in which you smiled, forgetting for a few seconds that he wasn’t there anymore, and it was always thanks to Chris. He hadn’t left you and he had promised to never do it again and following Alex’s last advice, you decided to give him a chance. The two of you spent a lot of time together, talking, watching movies, doing the homework, walking, sometimes you just stayed silent and enjoyed the company of the other. At some point along the way you had become a couple. You were in the park, talking about how boring one of the lessons had been when he kissed you lightly on the lips. You were shocked for a moment and he was already starting to apologize when you kissed him.
As one could expect, you two were the new favourite topic of the whole school. Most of the comments were very mean and they were all directed to you. People just seemed unable to accept the fact that the fuckboy of the school was dating the loner. Some had gone as far as to say that he was with you only because he pitied you for your brother’s death. However, the comments died out when The Penetrators started speaking up for you. You still didn’t like most of them but some weren’t that bad and now that you were Chris’ girlfriend, they were always ready to defend you. You could definitely get used to this.

[ID: a gif from SKAM of William Magnusson and Chris Schistad with another Penetrator boy in the background walking towards the camera in slow motion. End ID.]
The first thing you heard, even before you opened your eyes, were two very familiar voices talking cheerfully in the kitchen. You made a face and a grunt left your lips. You turned and sank your face in the soft pillow. However, it did nothing; at this point you were already awake. You waited five minutes hoping you would fall back to sleep. You gave up and got up rubbing your eyes and yawning. You slowly made your way to the kitchen in your embarrassing pajamas with colorful unicorns on a yellow background. You opened the sliding door to the kitchen to see your older brother William and his best friend Chris standing and talking way too loud for your likings. Hearing the door, Chris turned to you and smiled widely. “Look, my favourite girl in the world finally decided to honour us with her presence!” he exclaimed drawing William’s attention. He smiled at you sweetly.
“You’re talking too loud” you complained making your way to hug Chris who had opened his arms to invite you in. You hugged him putting your head on his chest which shook with his laughter.
“It’s eleven” William noticed. He seemed unable to understand that you loved dearly sleeping in every time you could.
“It’s Sunday” you retorted. He snorted shaking his head amused. “Cocoa?” he asked already knowing the answer. You nodded and unwillingly pulled apart from Chris to sit at the table.
“Are you and the girls coming to the party tonight?” Chris asked while William was preparing your breakfast.
“I don’t know, maybe?” You replied unsure.
“You don’t know?”
“It’s morning and you’re asking too many questions” you said making him laugh. “Right.” He nodded.
“Why do you care, anyway? You’re not having sex with any of my friends, you know it, right?” you asked slightly more awake.
William put your cocoa and a plate with two slices of toasted bread with strawberry jam in front of you and smiled finding the whole situation very funny.
“Hey, we don’t have any agreement about not having sex with one another’s friends” he complained.
“We don’t” you confirmed biting a slice of bread “but I don’t want you to have sex with them and then break their heart, this happened once already and it wasn’t nice” you explained looking at your brother disapproving.
“Not again, please!” he said exasperated making Chris laugh.
“You didn’t talk with me for like two weeks, wasn’t that enough?” he asked making you shake your head. “It will never be enough until you will learn how to treat girls right.”
Chris was still laughing. “Okay, fine, I won’t have sex with any of your friends, I don’t want to be reminded of that one mistake for the rest of my life” he capitulated.
“Good boy” you praised him with a smile making the two of them smile amused. The three of you knew perfectly how you had the two most popular boys of the school rapped around your finger. Both of them were totally soft for you. They loved you with their whole heart and would move mountains for you but you loved them just as much. You had grown together and they had always looked after you and were always ready to fight to protect you. You couldn’t imagine a life without them. However, it didn’t mean you approved their choices. You didn’t like them fucking every girl of the school only to break their heart afterwards, nor did you like them picking fights at every occasion. For this reason you would always pester them with endless lectures about why they shouldn’t have behaved how they did and how they should treat people differently.
Will turned to put the dishes in the dish washer and Chris winked at you. It seemed like he had pushed an invisible button, because as soon as he did so, you had the feeling of your blood boiling under the skin of your cheeks. You didn’t know how it happened or why, nor you could stop in any way. You hurried to hide your face behind the big cup your brother had given you for your tenth birthday all those years ago. You took some huge sips and before you could even notice, your cocoa was gone. You quickly ate the second toast and stood up under Chris’ confused stare. You put your dish and cup in the dishwasher.
“I have to study” you muttered before making your way to leave the kitchen. You weren’t out yet that you heard Chris calling after you. You turned to look at him. “You have moustache” he said pointing at his own face to show you where you had cocoa on yours and he offered you a napkin. You blushed embarrassed and accepted the napkin to clean your mouth.
“Now?”
He shook his head.
You spent the rest of the morning in your room studying, forgetting about the events of that morning.
You heard a knock on the door. “Come in” you said not turning, finishing writing the sentence you were writing for your essay.
“Lunch is ready” Chris said from the door. You nodded and stood following him. He put an arm around your shoulders while you walked to the kitchen.
“What were you studying?” he asked curious.
“I was writing an essay for Norwegian” you replied shrugging your shoulders.
“Do you want me to proofread it later?” he asked politely. To those who didn’t know him, he could seem a person who wasn’t really interested in school, and they weren’t wrong, but the guy had a natural talent for writing. You had told him several times he should work on it and improve it but he didn’t really care. Nevertheless, he always offered to help you with your essays and you were happy to accept.
You nodded smiling. “Thanks Chris.”
You two made your entrance into the kitchen and you inhaled the good smell.
“Raspeballs?” you guessed cheerfully. You loved those big balls made of potatoes and meat and it had been long since the last time you ate them.
“Yes! Are you happy?” William asked putting them into the dishes.
“You know I am!” you exclaimed kissing him on the cheek. “Thank you.”
He smiled. He loved making you happy, that was everything he cared for. Your simple ‘thank you’ was worth everything to him. You took the dishes and put them on the table and the three of you sat around it. This wasn’t unusual; you and William had always spent a lot of time with Chris even when you were just kids. Your family wasn’t the best back then and you would take every occasion you had to stay at Chris’. Now your only family was William so you didn’t need to refuge at Chris’ anymore but you still spent a lot of time with him, either at your house or at his. The lunch on Sunday at your house was a tradition just as much as lunch on Saturday at Chris’. The first time you did it was to celebrate the fact that your eldest half-brother had left Oslo and since then you had never stopped.
The conversation flowed easily during the lunch.
“Are you going to play Super Mario with me after lunch?” Chris asked you at some point.
“What for? You never win” you replied smirking.
“I did once” he retorted.
“Right… we played plenty of times” you reminded him with a smile. “Anyway I’m going at Eva’s later.”
“Oh, okay…” he replied nodding. He seemed somewhat unhappy but you might have imagined it.
After lunch you put the dishes in the dishwasher, no matter how many times William told you there was no need and that he could do it, each time you replied that he had already cooked and you wanted to do something to help. Meanwhile, Chris was sat at the table proofreading your essay. Once you had finished, he handed it to you and smiled. “It’s not bad.”
“Is there something I need to change?” you asked and he shook his head. You smiled and kissed him on the cheek. “Thanks, Chris.”
It seemed as if his smile had become brighter and his cheeks a little red but you thought once more that was your imagination.
You dressed before going to Eva’s. On your way out, you stopped in the living room to say them goodbye. You stopped on the door. “I’m going; maybe I’ll see you at the party.”
“Come here and give me a goodbye kiss” William demanded pausing the game they were playing. You smiled and went to kiss him and Chris.
“Do you have something to put on for the party?” your brother asked and you showed him the bag in your hand in which you had put a dress and heels.
“Good girl, text me to let me know your plans, okay?” he said earning a nod from you.
“Bye guys” you said leaving and heard their goodbye before you were out the door.
It was a tradition to meet at Eva’s before parties or even just to talk or study together. That day you had agreed to meet to have something to eat and drink together while chatting about anything that came to your mind. You were the first one to arrive at her house always wanting to arrive a little early than a little late.
“Hey!” she smiled at you opening the door and let you in. She noticed your bag right away and without needing her to ask, you answered her question. “It’s a dress in case we decided to go to the party at Theo’s.”
“Why I didn’t know anything about this party?” she asked surprised.
“It was supposed to be only for third-years but Chris invited us, so I thought you girls might want to go” you explained.
“I’ll tell the others” she said typing a message for the group. You closed the door and followed her downstairs. Sometimes you wondered if they had taken you in their group only because you were William’s sister but they were actually good friends and you knew you could tell them anything.
In the next thirty minutes the others joined you. By the time Chris, the last one, had joined you, you were dressed for the party and were chatting with the others on Eva’s bed.
“So William invited us?” Vilde asked hopeful. “No, Chris did” you replied drinking your third glass of wine.
“Why did he?” Vilde asked confused.
“I thought it was obvious: he likes Y/N” Sana replied nonchalantly making you choke on your wine. You coughed. “Excuse me?” you asked chocking on your drink, your eyes teary.
The girls exchanged a look.
“What?” You asked again.
“Well… Everyone can see how he looks at you” Noora said.
“Like a younger sister as always” you replied right away.
“Then why inviting you at the party?” Eva interjected.
“He is interested in one of you” you explained shrugging. She nodded unconvinced and the topic changed but your brain seemed stuck on that conversation. They were wrong. They didn’t know him the way you did and you were sure he didn’t see you that way and he never will. You were his best friend’s little sister.
You were still in your head when the girls decided it was time to go and they had to call you three times before they had your attention.
When you arrived the party was in full swing. Five minutes later you had lost all the girls. You sighed and went to the kitchen to take something to drink. Usually you enjoyed the parties because everyone knew you and wanted to make you have fun, either because they were William’s friends or because they wanted to become his friends, while girls usually wanted to get in his pants. It was like you were the princess that everyone treated the best they could. You made it to the kitchen smiling and waving at a couple of people who had noticed you. Once you got there you took a deep breath. The room wasn’t as crowded as the living room, it didn’t smell as bad and the music wasn’t as loud. It wasn’t that you didn’t enjoy to party, you loved it, especially with William and Chris, you simply weren’t in the mood that day. You poured some vodka in a clean plastic glass and took a sip. In that moment you someone patted you on your shoulder and you jumped out of your skin spilling some vodka.
“Sorry, didn’t want to scare you” Julian said and you turned to look at him.
“Oh it’s you” you said taking a hand to your chest to calm the fast beating of your heart and noticing your dress was soaked with vodka.
“Oh sorry!” he said noticing it. He gave you some napkins to dry it and you thanked him dabbing lightly the fabric. He was one of the Penetrators, they were William’s friends and they had always been there for him. That meant they knew you as well since you were always by his side and you always had the feeling he had asked them to watch out for you and take care of his little sister when he wasn’t around.
“William was wondering if you were coming to the party. Do you want me to take you to him?” he asked and you nodded. You didn’t want to spend the night alone. When you got to where the boys were and saw the situation you regretted agreeing to join them. William and Chris were sat on a sofa and around them there were many girls who seemed delighted to simply be in their proximity. It seemed like a harem. You didn’t like it and you were actually thinking to go back. Chris was making out with a girl while William sat there, a girl by his side, literally all over him and some other girls around him, either sat or standing who were trying to get his attention without much success. He wasn’t looking nor listening at them and he was searching for someone in the crowd. Just before you turned and went back to the kitchen, he spotted you and smiled waving at you to join him. You sighed and thanked Julian making your way to your brother. He gave you some room asking a girl to get up. You gave her an apologetic smile and you sat between William and Chris feeling strangely out of place. You always felt well around them, they always made you feel welcomed, but that evening, surrounded by all those girls which weren’t more than object to them, you felt bad for them. William put an arm around your shoulders and smiled at you. “Are you having fun?” he asked. You nodded blankly.
“Is something wrong?” he asked slightly worried. You nodded again, unable to tear your eyes away from Chris and the girl, who were still kissing. William noticed and tapped on Chris’ shoulder to draw his attention. He pulled away from the kiss and finally noticed you. “Hey! Are you enjoying the party?” he greeted you with a big smile. You nodded. “Yeah, yeah… I think I need to drink something” you announced getting up from the sofa without waiting for their reply. They shared a worried look but you were already in the middle of the crowd. Once again you reached the kitchen and poured yourself some more vodka.
“Hey” you heard an unknown voice directed at you. You turned and saw a nice guy you vaguely remembered have seen around the school.
“Hi” you said back without much enthusiasm, taking a sip from your glass.
“Do you like the party?” he asked only to say something. It was the third time you heard that question in twenty minutes and it was beginning to get on your nerves.
You leaned with your back against the counter.
“No” you said sincerely. “I’m quite bored” you added taking another sip. You looked at the bottom of the glass as if it had personally offended you because you weren’t getting drunk.
“Well, we could do something fun” he said pulling you back to reality.
You were about to say something when you saw him look at the door and becoming pale making you wonder if he had seen a ghost.
You turned your head and saw your brother standing at the entrance with the stern expression he used to scare people. The boy quickly mumbled some kind of greeting and disappeared in the living room.
You sighed and kept sipping on your vodka. It wasn’t unusual for your brother to interrupt everyone who tried to flirt with you. Sometimes you got mad at him, but this time you didn’t care.
He joined you. “What’s wrong?” he asked worried.
You sighed and shook your head. “Nothing is wrong; I just can’t bear seeing how you two treat women.”
“Is that it? Didn’t someone or something bother you?”
“I’m just not in the mood for parties. Can I be or do I need to always be in the mood?”
You drunk some more under his worried gaze.
“Do you want to take you home?”
You shook your head and finished your drink. “I’ll go home with the girls. Goodnight.”
You put the cup down and left leaving William standing there astounded.
You made your way to the main entrance through the crowd not even trying to find the girls and got out in the chilly air. You walked to your house, letting the cold weave under your skin and in your bones and head clearing it. Without all that noise, smell and people, the only thing that you could think of was Chris kissing that girl. The words the girls had said before came back to your mind and you thought that it proved how wrong they were. He would never see you as something more then Will’s little sister.
One week later that was still everything you could think about. You didn’t understand why but it was annoying, especially when Chris was around and you could only think of him kissing someone. You were lost in thoughts about why this was bothering you so much when your brother burst in your room without knocking, making you jump in your seat. You knew why he did that. There was only one case that could have him behaving like that. That expression of horror on his face was unmistakable for you.
“He is back, pack your things, you’ll stay at Chris’.” His tone told you he wouldn’t take ‘no’ as an answer.
No matter what, it wasn’t like you to just shut up and do things people told you to do. “Maybe he is changed; I want to talk to him. He was so young, he knows he did something wrong” you began as William started packing your things, knowing you wouldn’t.
“I assure you he is still the same asshole.” Pyjamas, trousers, a jumper, panties, other trousers, bras and other random items were thrown in a bag.
You rolled your eyes.
“You don’t know, I know you never talk to him” you insisted.
“You won’t either.” He fetched a couple of things from the toilet and put them in the bag as well. Then he closed the bag and, ignoring your attempts to argue, he took your hand and lead you out of the room and the flat.
You quickly grabbed your shoes at the entrance, knowing you wouldn’t be able to stop him.
“What about the things for school?”
“I’ll bring them later.”
He only stopped when you reached the car. You were out of breath. He put the bag in the car and climbed in while you did the same.
“You should give him a chance.” He started the car ignoring you.
“I get why you do this and if you don’t want me to talk with him I won’t, but at least you should. He is still our brother.”
“Half-brother and he is not changed.”
“He has friends now and he goes to university, I bet he is” you tried again.
“You won’t change my mind” he said ending the conversation.
You gave up and turned to look out of the window. Houses followed one another before your eyes each similar to the next one.
“I just don’t want you to get hurt” he whispered after a while. “I care too much about you.”
You ignored him, too angry to answer calmly. He sighed and parked in front of Chris’ house. You both got off the car and you took the bag from the back.
It took Chris not more than three minutes to open.
He welcomed you smiling but after seeing your faces and the bag on your side the smile fell. “Nikolai” he simply said earning a nod from William.
“Can you…?” your brother asked making a gesture in your general direction.
“Sure.” Chris nodded and moved from the door to let you in. You entered and left the bag in on the floor next to the door. You took off your shoes and went to the kitchen to have a glass of apple juice you knew the Schistads always had in their fridge. Chris and William talked for a while in hushed tones.
“I’ll bring her things for school later” you heard coming back and sitting on the couch.
“Bye, Y/N” William tried, hoping you weren’t angry at him anymore. You ignored him pretending to be watching the TV.
Chris gave him an apologetic smile. “See you later” he said closing the door and joining you on the sofa.
“Hey, I’m sorry…” he started but you shook your head. “No, I am. Every time you have to host me and spend your free time with me instead of doing something better” you said softly.
“You know I love to spend time with you, right? There is nothing else in the world I would prefer to do right now than to stay here with you and do anything you would like to.” He caressed your back and you smiled. “Thanks.”
He smiled back at you.
“I love to spend my time with you as well, I would just prefer if it wasn’t always because of Nikolai and William’s fear” you explained.
“He only does it because he is scared of what could happen to you, you’re the most important person in his life, he almost lost you once, he can’t let it happen again.”
“I know, I know… It’s just… Nik deserves another chance, to make things right. He’s never gonna give him that or…” A lump formed in your throat making it difficult for you to talk. Chris drew soothing circles on your back trying to help you calm down. “… or apologise.”
You took a deep breath hoping it would stop you from starting crying but it didn’t. Tears were already rolling down your cheeks. Chris took you in his arms. “Please don’t cry, nobody deserves your tears” he whispered caressing your back and leaving kisses on the top of your head.
You sobbed into his t-shirt already wet with tears.
“S-sorry” you mumbled pulling away and drying your cheeks.
“It’s ok, nothing to be sorry about. I just hate seeing you like that.” He stroked your cheek smiling at you softly.
“What about some sushi?” he proposed knowing how much you loved it. “I heard it takes all the worries away” he added winking at you, remembering what you once had said him to convince him to have sushi. A weird feeling enveloped your stomach but you ignored it, thinking it was due to the mention of food. You smiled and nodded.
You still weren’t talking with William, you were avoiding him and it was somehow incredibly easy even though you lived in the same house. You simply left early in the morning and came back late in the night. At school was quite easy as well. However, avoiding William meant avoiding Chris, since they were always together. You didn’t mind, in fact you preferred it that way because you didn’t know how to react to everything he did and said since the last time you had been at his house. You had slowly come to realise that you liked him. He was everything you could think about. You blushed every time he smiled, or winked or looked in your direction. It was embarrassing; hence, you were glad to have an excuse to stay away from him.
That morning you hadn’t been so lucky. You had met him in the hall; William was nowhere to be seen, so he had stopped you. While you had gone for a brief nod as a greeting, as it had become usual, he had taken your arm and had pulled you aside, near the wall.
“I know you are avoiding him but don’t do the same with me, please.”
That had left you speechless for a moment before you could find something to say. “I… it’s just that you’re always together…”
“I know but… I just really miss talking with you.”
Before you could say something, he had spoken again. “Can’t you forgive him? He is so sad without you. Please, just think about it.”
You could only nod. He had smiled and had kissed your cheek making you blushing so bad you were the same colour of the fire extinguisher you would need to stop the blushing. After that he had left with a soft “have a good day” you couldn’t reply to, still in shock.
Now you were walking unsteady up the stairs to your house completely drunk. Drinking was the only thing you could think of to forget everything. Once you reached the top, you took the keys out, dropping them on the floor. You cursed and bent to retrieve them. When you stood to open the door, you found it already open and your brother in the doorway, not looking very happy.
You smiled and waved at him looking like a five-years-old. He sighed and rolled his eyes. “Come in.” He moved to let you in and you did, stumbling on the doormat. He grabbed you by your elbow and pulled you upright leading you inside. He took your keys and put them away, then closed the door and took you to the kitchen making you sit down at the table. He filled a glass of water and put it in front of you with some bread before sitting next to you. You downed the glass and went for the bread. He got up and filled the glass again.
“Would you tell me what’s wrong?” he asked sitting again.
You munched the bread slowly before replying. “I’m avoiding you because I’m still angry.”
He nodded. “What else?”
“Chris kissed me.”
He was so shocked that he didn’t react at the beginning. Then he paled and stiffened and he tightened his jaws so hard that for one moment you thought he could break his bones.
“On the cheek” you added making him relax instantaneously. Now he looked confused.
“This isn’t strange, is it?”
You shook your head looking a little down. “No, it’s not” you confirmed.
He waited for further explanations but you only chewed on your bread without adding anything, looking at the table with a blank expression.
“Please, tell me what’s going going on, I’m worried about you.”
“I will never be good enough” you murmured, more to yourself than to him.
“What are you talking about? You so much more than just ‘enough’” he said taking your hand in his.
You shook your head. You had a blank stare but your eyes were full of tears without you even noticing. “If you don’t hug me right now I think I might fall apart” you whispered. Your voice was so low it could be taken for a gust of wind. Nevertheless, William heard it and took you in his arms. When he squeezed you to his chest, you burst into tears wetting his t-shirt.
You had forgiven your brother and had started to talk to him again but you still avoided being around Chris as much as possible without being suspicious. However, William didn’t miss it. He had tried to understand the reason of your behaviour for more than a week but when he couldn’t find an answer he started asking questions. You had managed to keep your secret but it was becoming more and more difficult as you slowly accepted that you were falling for Chris. At some point, anyway, it hit him. Seeing you interacting with Chris made him realise your feelings for your best friend.
“You cannot be falling for him” he said as soon as Chris had left.
“What?” you asked looking at him wide-eyed, taken aback.
“You like him; I can see it but remember that he is the guy that uses girls for his own pleasure before breaking their heart”
You snorted crossing your arms. “Really? I thought you were the one to do so. How does it feel? How do you feel knowing your sister likes a boy who doesn’t give a damn about girls and only uses them and that he could do the same with her?” you asked him challenging. “Think about it next time you use a girl and break her heart.” You went to leave the room but he spoke.
“If he does anything to hurt you I will hurt him very bad” he announced.
He wouldn’t. You knew he would never. Not that he needed to. Chris was always a perfect gentleman to you. However, someone else had hurt him. The Yakuza boys had fought with the Penetrators and they had insisted a lot on Chris, knowing he was William’s best friend. They hadn’t found William, so they had beaten Chris instead, but he had defended himself pretty well as he had said when your brother had brought him home.
When you saw him, his face all covered in blood, wounds and bruises, your heart stopped and you froze on the spot. Your brother had to call your name twice before your feet started to move and you went fetching the first aid kit in the bathroom.
You cleaned all his cuts and put cream on his bruises to help them heal. It was hard for you to not get distracted by his eyes and lips and only pay attention to what he was saying, explaining what had happened. William’s dark eyes on the two of you made you feel terribly self-conscious. When you finished, you gave the first aid kit to your brother, instructing him to put it back, happy you could have a break from his scrutinising stare.
“Thank you” Chris whispered.
“You don’t have to thank me” you assured him with a sweet smile.
“Yes, because you make me feel at home.”
You didn’t know what to say but he wasn’t finished. “I don’t know anyone else who can make me feel this way.”
You were about to say something but William came back. “Let’s put him to bed” he suggested. You nodded and offered to help Chris to get up but he refused. “It’s okay, I can do that” he assured. You nodded and whispered a soft ‘goodnight’ he returned with a small smile. William took him to bed and you were left alone in the living room staring into space. You were so deep in your thoughts, you almost jumped when William talked from the door.
“How bad is it?”
You looked at him wide-eyed. “Oh… he will be perfectly fine in a week or so.”
He shook his head and joined you on the sofa. “How bad is your crush?”
“Oh… Well, that won’t be gone in a week nor a month.” You sighed and passed a hand through your hair.
“You know the only reason I’m trying to talk you out of it is because I care for you and I don’t want you to get hurt, right?”
You nodded and he took you in his arms and kissed your head.
“You know it won’t work, right?” you said with a smile making him laugh. “Yeah, I know, you are too stubborn.”
You pinched his side making him jump and laugh. “I’m not stubborn, I’m decisive” you corrected.
“Sure, my stubborn little sister.” He messed your hair making you snort annoyed.
“Stop saying I’m stubborn, let’s talk about where you were while your best friend was being beaten” you said pushing his hand away from your hair.
“It’s time to go to bed” he replied getting up.
“No way!” You pulled him back down on the couch. Your eyes sparkled with an itch curiosity. “Where were you, don’t tell me, let me guess… you were out with a girl.”
He avoided your eyes and you knew you were right. “Do you like her?”
“Y/N” he called your name in his complaining tone, trying once more to get up but you didn’t let his hand free.
“Oh… you do! My heartless brother likes a girl!” you exclaimed excited before looking sternly at him now standing in front of you. “Are you treating her well?”
“I am” he replied, still avoiding meeting your gaze. You squinted trying to understand if he was telling the truth.
“She isn’t interested in me” he capitulated falling back into the couch.
“Why do you think so?” you asked surprised. He was always so sure of himself it was strange to see him so dejected.
“She told me.”
“But she came on a date with you…” you tried to see the bright side.
“I… kind of forced her…”
In that moment something clicked in your head. “You are an asshole and Noora is too intelligent for you, you don’t deserve her and you have no respect for me or my friends. I had begged you to leave my friends alone but you’re forcing Noora to go out with you and to do so you’re using Vilde.” You got up ignoring the tears forming in your eyes and left, deaf on his voice calling you.
Once more you were not talking to your brother. You had tried to convince Noora to tell Vilde everything and to stop seeing your brother. She kept repeating that she was doing it for Vilde. At some point you simply gave up.
You had tried to avoid Chris as well, hoping your crush would vanish if you stayed away from him because as much as you hated to admit it, your brother was right. However, Chris would have none of it. He would smile and wink at you every time making your stomach squeeze and turn and dance in your belly and your cheeks as red as the Norwegian flag. When you finally surrendered to the fact that your crush wouldn’t just go away, you decided to stop fighting it.
“How are the bruises?” you asked stopping him in the hallway when he wasn’t with William.
“They are better, thank to you” he said smiling.
You had exchanged a few more words before going to class.
Since then, every time he wasn’t with your brother the two of you would stop to talk for a while. Sometimes it almost seemed to you he ditched William to see you. Most of the times you hugged and he kissed you a lot: on the cheek, on the head, on the forehead, on the nose. You loved it. During those moments you spent with him you couldn’t stop smiling and giggling. Sometimes he flirted jokingly with you and you blushed. You weren’t used to it. He had always treated you like a sister and had never flirted with you, not even as a joke.
William was too busy hiding away with Noora to notice any of it.
“Y/N” you stopped hearing his voice calling you while you were heading out of the school with the girls. You bid them goodbye and waited for him to reach you. You smiled widely and hugged him. “Starbucks?” he asked already knowing the answer. You nodded and he put an arm around your shoulders. On the way you talked non-stop about anything that occurred to you. When you arrived your cheeks hurt because of how much and how widely you had smiled. He kept the door open for you, entering after you. Your conversation continued when you sat at one of the small tables and even when he walked you back home. When you closed the door behind you, your heart beat so fast it seemed you had had too much coffee but you knew you didn’t. Suddenly you realised it was the first time you hanged out with him without William being involved in any way. He wasn’t with you, he hadn’t forced you to stay with Chris because Nikolai was back, he hadn’t left you with him while he fucked a girl or fought with someone, you hadn’t even mentioned him once. That thought made you feel strangely good and guilty at the same time. You scolded yourself, there was nothing you had to feel guilty about, you did nothing wrong.
The vibration of your phone in your pocket brought you back to reality. You took it out while taking of your shoes.
 From Chris:
I had a great time today
I always have a great time with you
That first “non-date” as you called it in your head was followed by many others. You ate ice cream, pizza, sushi, you went to the park, to the cinema, ice skating, you talked, smiled, laughed and blushed a lot. At some point spending time with Chris had become essential.
At school everything went on as always and you were nothing more than friends, but when it was only the two of you, you felt special. It was like you were the only important person in his life. In those moments you forgot about everything else: your brother and his warnings, all the girls Chris had been with, all the good propositions to not fall for him you had at the beginning.
Parties were completely different. It seemed nothing had changed between the two of you. He still hooked with any girl who hit on him and you felt so bad seeing that that you most of the times made up some excuse not to go. That party, however, was different. You hadn’t found any excuse. It was on the Penetrators’ bus and your friends had been invited too so you went as well.
Eva tried for the whole party to have his attention but she didn’t succeeded. He seemed distracted, until he received a phone call which for some reason mobilised all the boys. Passing by you on his way out Chris urged you to stay inside and you saw your brother do the same with Noora sparing you a quick glance when he followed his best friend outside. You looked at Noora and then at the girls, all of you were confused. You were the first to leave the bus and go looking for them, finding them fighting with the Yakuza boys. You couldn’t believe your eyes. The last straw was seeing your brother hitting a boy on the head with a bottle. You and Noora left, disgusted.
You were pacing around your living room when you heard the door of the flat unlock. You stopped and turned to look at the two boys. You observed them to make sure they weren’t hurt. Once you were sure, you started screaming at them.
“What were you thinking picking a fight with the Yakuza boys? What made you think it would be a good idea?” you asked them while they silently took off their shoes looking guilty.
“We had our reasons to do what we did” William assured, talking to you for the first time in a while.
“So they hurt Chris and you, instead of going to the police, think is a good idea to fight them? When is this thing ending? You could have might have hurt that boy very bad today.”
“He will be fine” he said unconcerned.
It made you even madder. “I have no idea what Noora sees in you but sure as hell she isn’t happy about what happened.”
Chris glared at William before looking back at you. “You’re right, it wasn’t the best thing to do but, please, let us explain.”
You sighed and nodded.
“I need to call Noora” he excused himself leaving the room to go to his bedroom. You sighed annoyed.
Chris offered you an apologetic smile. You sat in the sofa, not as mad as you were before. He sat beside you and started explaining their reasons.
“I know it wasn’t the right thing to do but you know how impulsive I am” he concluded.
You got up and went to the kitchen to have a glass of water. He followed you.
“Are you still mad?” he asked while you opened the cupboard and tried to reach one of the glasses. He came closer to you and pressed his chest to your back, reaching one of the glasses without any effort and giving it to you. You felt suddenly incredibly hot.
“I-I always tell William he should put them where I can reach them as well but…” you started babbling. He was still so close to you.
“You’re so fucking hot when you’re mad” he whispered in your ear making you shivering.
“W-what?” You turned to look at him to make sure you had understood correctly. Your mouth was so close to his you could feel his breath on your lips. In a blink it was replaced by his lips on yours. The kiss started as soft and loving but it got heated soon. He took you in his arms and put you on the counter. He was in between your legs and his right and was on you waist while his left hand was on your thigh. He kept kissing you until you heard steps in the hallway. You pushed him away and jumped off the counter taking the glass and filling it. William entered the room.
“Did you talk with her?” Chris asked right away.
He nodded but before he could add anything, you interjected. “I’m going to bed” you said leaving the two of them.
You weren’t regretting the kiss, which had been wonderful, but you felt stupid for falling in the trap. He would most definitely go back to whoever he liked to fuck. You ignored all his calls and messages and avoided him as much as you could. It didn’t go unnoticed.
“So, what’s happening?” Sana asked sitting across from you in the cafeteria.
“What are you talking about?”
“First you start avoiding your brother and I totally get why but now you’re doing the same with Chris and I get he did something wrong but… I think there is something more than the fight” she explained.
“There is not” you said looking intently at your yogurt.
Sana didn’t believe you and continued staring at you. You looked back at her and rolled your eyes. “He kissed me” you capitulated.
“Kissed like… a real kiss… on the mouth?”
“Yes, tongue and everything” you confirmed.
“You don’t seem happy” she noticed. “I mean you like him, that’s bright as the sun.”
You shrugged your shoulders. “I feel stupid because he clearly doesn’t like me back.”
She rolled her eyes.
“What?” you asked defensive, your yogurt was now forgotten on the table in front of you.
“Are you blind? Didn’t you see how he looks at you? Like you held the world in your hand, like you were the moon, the sun and all the stars at once” she said like it was the most obvious thing in the world, almost annoyed by all that sweetness.
“Sure, and that’s exactly why he fucks all the girls of the school” you replied crossing your arms and leaning back in your chair looking unimpressed.
“Probably he does because you’re his best friend little sister and he shouldn’t see you as anything more and he doesn’t want to disrespect their friendship or something” she said shrugging her shoulders.
You simply looked back at her. When she understood that you wouldn’t say anything, she did. “You should talk with him” she insisted.
With that conversation in mind you walked back home. You still ignored Chris but you started wondering if you should at least give him a chance to explain himself.
You had been home for five minutes when someone knocked. You went to open, sure it was William who had forgotten the keys but when you opened you found Chris. It took a couple of seconds for you to react.
“William is not at home” you said starting to close the door but he put a hand on it not allowing you to do so.
“I’m here to talk with you.”
“I have nothing to tell you” you replied, still trying to close the door.
“I do, we need to talk about what happened.”
You let the door go and sighed letting him in. “Fine.”
He entered and you closed the door.
“He’s not here, is he?”
You shook your head going to the kitchen. “Tea?” you asked hoping to put off the conversation you knew was coming but knowing you weren’t able to do so.
“Yes, please.” He sat at the table while you filled the tea pot and put it on the fire.
You sighed and turned signalling him to start talking.
“I know what you’re thinking.”
You furrowed your eyebrows.
“You think that for me that kiss meant nothing, that you’re just another girl, but you’re not. You’re special. You make me feel alive and you make me happy. I-I love you. I’ve been in love with you for years now but you were William’s little sister and he wouldn’t have forgiven me if I tried to hit on you so I tried to forget you by… well you know” he explained. You could see in his eyes he was telling the truth.
“What’s different now?”
“Now I know you feel the same and it is worth trying. Maybe he will accept it eventually” he said hopeful. “I mean that’s obviously if you want to…” he added unsure when you didn’t say anything.
“I-I… it’s just that I’ve seen how you treat the other girls and I don’t want to be treated like them.”
He stood and came closer to you. “I know you hate that and you’re completely right but I swear I will treat you better than ever. Please, just give me a chance.” He took your hands in his and you lowered your gaze to look at them than you nodded. “Okay” you whispered taking your eyes back to his. He smiled widely causing you to smile as well.
The moment was interrupted by the whistle of the tea pot. The two of you chuckled and you turned off the gas. “Do you still want it?”
He shook his head. “I just want to kiss you now.”
You smiled and blushed. He took your face between his hands slowly reducing the distance between your lips and kissing you.
You and Chris had agreed to not tell William anything but some of the guys had noticed the difference in Chris.
“You’re looking at her again, at least try to leave some clothes on her” Theo told him. Chris’ eyes hadn’t left you for the whole party.
“Shut up.”
“Oh no, he is right, if Will saw you looking at his little sister like that he would have your balls” Julian added sipping his beer.
“Stop it” Chris spit looking at William who was talking to some other boys.
“Look, we are telling this because we care for you. You need to be more subtle if you don’t want him to find out” Theo continued.
Chris sipped his beer bringing his eyes back on you dancing with Vilde and girl Chris. You met his eyes causing you both to smile.
“He can’t” Julian commented. “I mean, look at his heart-shaped eyes!”
Chris rolled his eyes.
“Oh Y/N, I love you so much!” Theo imitated Chris voice, earning a light punch in his stomach from him causing him to sputter the beer he was drinking. The three of them started laughing at that and Chris patted Theo on the back.
For this reason they didn’t notice you making your way towards them.
Julian was the first to acknowledge your presence and he drew his friends’ attention clearing his voice.
“Hey Y/N” he said hugging you. “Hey Julian. Theo” you replied hugging them both. Then you hugged Chris as well and he kissed your cheek.
You pulled away. “Could you take me home?” you asked biting your lower lip.
Theo coughed to hide a chuckle and Julian smirked. Both earned a glare from Chris.
“What will William say?” Julian asked.
“Niko is back” Chris replied and that was enough to stop them from making fun of the situation.
“Sure honey, let’s go” he said smiling. You greeted the two and he took your hand and led you through the crowd to his car.
The following morning Chris was cooking breakfast wearing only his boxers when someone knocked.
“Honey, have you seen my hoodie?” he asked looking for it around the living room.
“Nooo” you yelled from his bedroom.
He snorted amused. “You’re wearing it, aren’t you?” he asked putting on a t-shirt instead.
“Maybe.”
He smiled fondly and went to open the door finding William.
“Hey Will…”
“You’re fucking my sister?”
Chris paled. “Look, I-I wanted to tell you but I knew how you would react…” he started.
William grabbed Chris’ t-shirt. “I would have never expected something like that from you.”
You jumped out of the bed and reached them.
“William! Leave him now!” you demanded.
“I told you to be careful with this one and… and now Nikolai tells me you two have an affair” he growled.
“He loves me, I love him. We love each other. We are in a relationship and Chris is a wonderful boyfriend” you hurried to say.
“He is a fuckboy.”
You rolled your eyes and crossed you arms.
“So were you before dating Noora but you’re in love with her now and you are different now, aren’t you?” you retorted.
“Do you love her?” he asked Chris who nodded right away. “I love her, I have for a long time but I didn’t want to hurt you and I thought she didn’t feel the same.”
“Does he make you happy?” he asked you. You nodded. “Very.”
Only then he let go off Chris. “If you hurt her, I’ll kill you” he warned him making you sighing. “William, stop, seriously, that’s ridiculous” you commented starting to lay the table for the breakfast. “Are you staying for breakfast?” you asked. He nodded and took off his shoes and coat.
Chris sighed relieved and closed the door joining the two of you.

“… and so I told her that’s not how it works and...” Chris’ story was interrupted by the arrival of Noora who threw herself at William to kiss him. You were just a couple of step behind her. Your eyes met Chris’ and he rolled them while you gave him an apologetic smile. This scene wasn’t new to the two of you; it happened every day, sometimes even multiple times. Since William and Noora got together, it was almost impossible to take them apart; they spent a lot of time together, mostly making out. You and Chris, being their best friends, were always the third wheel. You were both very happy for your best friends but sometimes it really got on your nerves. The good thing was that you got to spend a lot of time with Chris which, you soon discovered, wasn’t so bad. He wasn’t the fuckboy everyone knew, well not only, at least. He was a very smart guy and it was easy to talk to him. You were surprised when you found out how many things you two had in common.
Chris pulled a face to make you laugh and he almost succeeded. You snorted trying to keep yourself from laughing out loud but that wasn’t enough since both Noora and William looked at you interrogatively. Chris averted his gaze pretending it wasn’t his fault and you looked desperately for something to say when the bell rang signalling the end of the break and saving you. Noora and William kissed again and you greeted Chris who waved back with a little smile. Your stomach gave a strange squeeze and you cursed yourself for forgetting your snack at home. You and Noora left the boys to go to your next class.
You didn’t notice but William was looking at Chris with an amused smile. When you and Noora entered the building, Chris finally turned to face William and noticed his expression. “What?” he asked and William only mimicked the way he had waved at you and he run away laughing when his friend started chasing him.
***
You and Noora had left Eva’s house not long before and you were going home. On your way to Noora’s house you passed by William’s and your best friend looked at you with her best puppy eyes.
“No” you simply said, shaking your head.
“Please...”
“You can go to see him but I’m going home” you said firmly.
“But Chris will be there too” Noora knew what to say to convince you.
“And so what?”
“And you don’t want him to be the third wheel, at least not alone” she replied with a knowing smile.
You rolled your eyes. “Fine! But if Chris is not here, I’m going home” you surrendered following her.
Chris was there, sat in front of the TV with the controller in his hands, a videogame paused on the screen and not really happy to see Noora. He was on the verge of taking his things and heading home when you took off your coat abandoning it on a chair before sitting on the sofa next to him.
“What were you playing?” you asked pointing at the big screen.
“Mortal Kombat, do you want to try?” he offered you the other controller which you gladly accepted.
One hour and several fights later, you were still on the sofa, bragging about your umpteenth victory over Chris, Noora and William had disappeared in his room long time ago.
“Where did you learn to play?” Chris asked, finally accepting the defeat and giving up.
“At home,” you stated simply. “I like to play video games” you added shrugging.
Chris opened his mouth to say something when you heard a moan coming from the room and you both started laughing.
“Does it happen often?” you asked curiously while Chris was turning off the TV.
“What?”
“You being the third wheel” you replied simply.
“Well, now more than ever” he confessed with a sigh sitting again on the sofa. “What about you? Do you do that often?”
You nodded. “All the times: with Noora, with Eva, with Vilde... Everyone” you replied with a sad smile.
“Do they do the same for you?” he asked cautious noticing your shift in mood.
“It isn’t necessary”
“What do you mean?” he asked confused.
“That I don’t... That I’m not what guys look for” you explained with a resigned gesture of your hand.
“Bullshit” he snorted. “You are smart and gorgeous” he said sincerely, looking in your brilliant eyes.
You snorted lowering you gaze. “You only say so to make me feel better” you retorted.
He shook his head. “No, I really think you are.”
“Thanks” you replied unconvinced. He noticed but he didn’t comment.
“Come on, I’ll take you home” he said with a sweet smile. You nodded and quickly typed a message to inform Noora that you were leaving.
On the way home you talked about nothing in particular but you laughed a lot.
“Here we are” he said stopping in front of your house. You felt a pang in your chest, sad that you had to leave him already; you were having a good time together.
“Thanks Chris” you said with a smile.
“Thank you for keeping me company and not leaving me alone being the third wheel” he replied with a wink.
“That’s what friends do” you said shrugging.
“Is this you friendzoning me?” he asked jokingly making you laugh. “By the way, I was serious when I said that you are gorgeous and smart. You are a wonderful girl and boys don’t know what they are missing” he said seriously.
“Thanks” you murmured blushing and hiding your face in your big scarf to avoid him noticing.
He smiled and opened his arms to invite you to hug him and you didn’t think about it twice.
It was the first time you hugged him and it was surprisingly nice. You felt the need to stay like that just a minute longer but he let you go too soon. Distancing himself just enough to look at you in the eyes and for half second you thought he would kiss you. He did. He kissed your forehead and you were terribly disappointed. You missed it, my lips are way lower, you screamed in your mind. You only smiled and let him go.
“Goodnight” you whispered.
“‘Night”
It was only when you were climbing the stairs that your head stopped spinning and you came out of your trance. Did you really expect the greatest fuckboy of the school to kiss you because he had feelings for you and not because he just wanted to add a girl to the never-ending list? And since when you wanted to kiss Chris?
You shook your head. It only happened because he is a handsome boy and he is actually a nice person and we had a moment out there, or maybe I did. You said to yourself while bustling about with the keys to open the door which opened by itself before you could find the right key.
You lifted your gaze and looked at your mom. “Hi mom” you said with a smile that wasn’t reciprocated.
“You are late, you said you would be back hours ago, and who is that guy?” she said not even greeting you.
You sighed and entered. “I was coming home with Noora and she wanted to stop by at her boyfriend’s house, I thought it would be just a minute to greet him and then go home but she ended up staying there and his best friend offered to walk me home” you explained taking your shoes and coat off.
“Fine, but you have to tell me when you come home later, I was worried, you didn’t even pick up my calls” she said worried.
You took your phone out of your pocket and looked at it noticing at least six calls and three messages from your mom, two from your dad, a message from Noora and more than fifty messages in the group chat. You sighed. “Sorry, I didn’t hear it” you said feeling sorry.
“It’s for the next time” she said sighing. “Come on, dinner is ready.”
 ***
“So, you went home with Chris, yesterday?” Noora asked you sitting at your usual table in the cafeteria, a malicious smile on her painted lips.
Vilde abruptly stopped talking and all the girls looked at you curiously.
“Hi to you too” you said sarcastic, not taking your eyes away from your rice. Silence.
You raised your eyes and looked back at them. “What?”
“Wait, are we talking about Penetrator Chris, right?” Chris asked.
“Obviously we are” Vilde replied.
“What happened?” Eva asked ignoring them.
“Nothing happened” you replied with a deadpan expression.
“Yesterday, when we left your house, we stopped at William’s and Chris was there and Y/N went home with him because I stayed there” Noora explained with the same smile.
The girls, who for a moment had taken their attention away from you to listen to your best friend, looked at you wide-eyed.
“Don’t look at me like that, he only offered to take me home because it was late and we don’t live too far from each other” you said like it was the most obvious thing, and it was for you.
“It’s Penetrator Chris we are talking about, he doesn’t walk girls home unless it is to fuck them” Sana interjected.
You rolled your eyes. “We didn’t fuck. He left me in front of my house and that’s it.”
Vilde opened her mouth to talk but something caught her eye. All of you looked in the same direction and saw Chris entering the cafeteria. Silence fell and you looked around to see if people really shut up when he walked inside or if it was just you impression. You were surprised to find out that people actually stopped talking and were looking at him. Soon people resumed their conversations from where they had left them and you took your gaze back to him who was heading towards you. Wait, what?
“Hey” he nodded at you with a smile.
“Hi” you replied coolly, sensing Vilde at your left looking at him with wide eyes and mouth agape.
“I was wondering if you would like to come at my house and play video games sometime, I clearly need some exercise” he smiled.
“Sure, whenever you want, just text me” you replied shrugging.
“I... would need your number to do so” he said extracting the phone from his pocket and handing it to you.
You quickly inserted your number and saved it, giving him back the phone with a smile.
“Thanks see you.”
“Bye.”
He left nodding at the girls as a greeting. They waited till he was far enough before erupting in giggles.
“Shh... Stop it!” you tried to shut them up without much success.
“Play video games... Sure” commented Sana.
“He just asked your number” Eva stated the obvious.
“I didn’t notice” you deadpanned. Your eyes fell on Noora who was looking at you again with that malicious grin. You were surprised, she was never like that, she wasn’t the one who always wanted to talk about boys. You shook your head.
 ***
It was almost Christmas and you were carrying around the city heavy bags full of presents after a morning of shopping. You were satisfied with yourself; you had a present for everyone. You had presents even for Chris and William, even though you didn’t know if you should have bought them. You weren’t that close after all.
You were tired and you needed the toilet very bad, so on your way back home, passing by William’s house, you decided to try your luck and stop to ask him to use his toilet. You were lucky, he was home and he let you inside.
“Noora is not...” he started saying opening the door of his apartment before you interrupted him. “I need the toilet” you said leaving the bags on the ground and taking off your coat and shoes quickly. “Chris is showering...” he informed you before watching you hurry to the bathroom anyway with an amused smile on his lips. He followed you in the hallway wanting to witness the scene. You seemed very desperate.
“Chris, open up!” you started knocking repeatedly at the door. “I don’t care if you’re showering, masturbating or I don’t know, I just need to poop so bad that if you don’t open right now, I will explode and stain the corridor!” you shouted hearing a laugh from both William who was almost crying for the laughs and Chris.
You heard the key and the door opened right after. “Poop?” Chris asked with an amused smile, letting you in. You covered your eyes so you wouldn’t catch a glimpse of his nudity and headed for the toilet.
He soon finished showering and covered himself with a towel.
“You can open your eyes now.”
You peeked between your fingers, making sure he was covered, and when you saw him looking at you with the same amused smile he had before and a towel hanging on his hips, you decided it was safe enough to open your eyes.
It wasn’t that safe, anyway. Chris was there, only a towel covering part of his body, and countless drops of water rolling down his abs. You tried to concentrate on the tiles under your feet.
“So your toilet is broken or something?” he asked styling his hair, not minding the fact that you were using the toilet.
“Mh... No, I was buying presents for Christmas, my house is further and I couldn’t resist anymore.”
“Oh... did you buy me a present?” he asked jokingly, clearly not expecting a positive answer.
“Actually... yes” you replied not looking at him. He was surprised, you could feel that without looking at him because he fell silent for a moment, he clearly didn’t know what to say.
You finished all you had to do and went to wash your hands.
“So... what is it?” he asked curious.
You looked at him confused “What?”
“My present.”
“I’m not telling you.”
“Why?” he asked while you dried your hands.
“Because it is a surprise” you replied before leaving the bathroom.
“If you wait for me I can give you a lift home” he informed you before closing the door.
You didn’t know if you wanted to accept his offer, that morning had already been awkward enough and you had spent a total of five minutes with him. Your gaze fell on the bags and you decided that it wasn’t a bad idea to accept, after all. You waited for Chris talking with William.
“Is it big?” Chris asked out of the blue entering the living room, now dressed. You and William looked at him with matching confused expressions. “My present!” he clarified.
You shook your head. “Sure not as much as your ego” you replied making them laugh. You put your coat and shoes on, thanking William and picking three of the bags from the floor, leaving the other two for Chris to take. He peeked in the bags.
“Is the red dress” you told him, causing him to snort and William to laugh.
On the way to your house, Chris kept pestering you with questions about his present.
“Did you get me one?” you asked finally, tired of all his questions.
“I haven’t bought any Christmas present yet.”
He stopped the car in front of your house. “Thanks Chris and sorry for... for interrupting your shower” you said embarrassed.
“Don’t worry. I’ll help you with the bags” he got out of the car before you could protest. You followed. “You don’t need to” you assured him taking the bags he wasn’t already holding.
“Come on” he signalled you to precede him to open the door. You rolled your eyes at his stubbornness but you melted a little inside.
He took your bags up to your floor. “Thank you, you can leave them here, I’m sure I can take them inside without too much effort.”
“You’re not inviting me to come inside?” he asked jokingly pretending to be hurt.
You were about to say that your parents were home when the door opened revealing your dad. “I thought I heard someone talking” he commented.
“Hi dad” you said giving a hint of a smile. It seemed to draw your mom’s attention and she also came to the door, a tea cloth still in her hand. “Hi sweetie” she said before noticing Chris and smiling to him. “And you are...?”
“Christoffer” he hurried to say, offering his hand to her who shook it pleased and then to your dad who did the same. “Well, Christoffer, do you want to stay for lunch?” your mom asked with a smile.
“No, he was going home, his parents are waiting for him” you interjected hurriedly. “Bye, Chris”
Chris tried to hold back an amused smile. “Yes, I have to go but thank you, maybe another time” he said smiling politely at your parents.
“Sure, whenever you want” your mom said smiling. “It would be a pleasure to have you as our guest” your father added.
“It would be my honour” Chris replied smiling, you glared at him who luckily got the hint.
“Well... I’d better be going. It was nice to meet you Mr. and Mrs. Y/L/N” he said smiling, then, just before going, he kissed your cheek and your mind went nuts. It was the first time he kissed you on the cheek and he did it in front of your parents, that little bastard. You blushed, terribly aware of the presence of your parents in front of you and of Chris’ lips on your skin. It lasted too long to be in front of your parents and definitely not enough for your likings but it ended.
“Bye, see you on Monday.”
“Bye” you whispered still shocked, following him down the stairs with your gaze. When he finally disappeared, you looked back at you parents and blushed violently. “He... is just a friend” you hurried to clarify while your parents nodded unconvinced. “Sure” “Obviously”
You rolled your eyes and picked up the bags taking them inside. You heard the ringtone of an incoming message and you took your phone from your pocket to look at it. An unknown number had texted you. You unlocked the phone confused to read the entire message.
 Unknown number:
It’s because of my present that the bags were so heavy?
You snorted and quickly saved the number before answering.
 To P-Chris:
I forgot it at William’s
You didn’t have to wait long before receiving a new message.
 From P-Chris:
You didn’t
 To P-Chris:
I didn’t
 From P-Chris:
Pity, I could have just asked him what it is
You smiled at that but before you could answer, your mother called you for lunch and you had to leave your phone.
 ***
“So, Frankenstein was an epistolary novel” Noora repeated laying on your bed playing with a pencil, the English literature book open in front of her. You nodded while revising your notes sit on the floor with the back against the bed. Your phone chimed with a new message on the floor next to you and you looked briefly at it to see who it was. You took the phone and unlocked it.
 From P-Chris:
Are you ignoring me hoping I will stop with the questions about my present? Not happening.
You snorted and typed quickly an answer.
 To P-Chris:
Patience is a virtue
“Y/N, are you listening to me?” Noora asked earning a nod from you, your eyes still glued on the screen waiting for an answer.
 From P-Chris:
What is patience? A new cocktail?
 To P-Chris:
You will find out soon enough
“... and Mary Shelley had an affair with Shakespeare” you nodded without paying attention to what your friend was saying. “Y/N you’re not listening to me!” she complained. “Who are you texting with?” she asked trying to see the screen of your phone.
“Chris, she said she isn’t ready for English tomorrow” you lied locking your phone and putting it away so that she wouldn’t see it.
“Chris? So what does the P stand for?” she asked, already knowing the answer. “It stands for Poop” you said with a plain tone, as if you were discussing the weather.
You had just gone back to studying when your mom asked you if you wanted to have a break and eat something. You both accepted gladly, Noora followed your mom to the kitchen while you went to the toilet before heading there as well.
 From P-Chris:
Will I have my present just as soon?
 To P-Chris:
You will have to wait longer for that.
When you entered the kitchen, Noora looked at you wide-eyed. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“What?” you asked confused, still at the door.
“Chris took you home again”
You sighed and sat at the table. “He was just being nice” you stated.
“He was very nice” your mom commented.
“Mom!”
“What? It’s true” she shrugged and gave you a cup of tea.
“Okay, but where did you meet him?” Noora interjected curious.
“Yesterday I bought Christmas presents and I needed the toilet so I stopped by at William’s because it was closer and Chris was there, and since the bags were heavy he offered to give me a lift.” You sipped your tea thoughtful. “Even though I suspect he did it because he wanted to find out about his present...” you added.
“You got him a present?” Noora asked surprised.
“Yeah, I thought it was a nice thing to do, I got one for William too” you replied shrugging.
Your phone chimed but before you could take it, Noora did. “Is that him?” she looked at the screen. “Oh yes, it’s him! He says you are a tease” she read the message before you could grab it from her hand.
Your mom looked at you interrogatively and Noora voiced her confusion. “Why would he say that? You are not..., are you?”
“No, we are not, Jesus!” you retorted. “I just don’t want to tell him about his present, that’s all” you explained rolling your eyes and leaving the kitchen, leaving your tea almost untouched on the table.
 ***
“I’m just saying that I think he might have feelings for you as well” Noora insisted.
“But I don’t have feelings for him” you repeated stubbornly. She rolled her eyes not believing you. “There is nothing bad if you do” she said patiently. The argument had been going on for the whole morning. Now you were in the cafeteria during the lunch break waiting for the other girls to join you.
“There is, because he is the greatest fuckboy of the entire school. He is not going to change for me, for him it will always be fucking with no feelings, so I can’t fall for him” you clarified ending the discussion when you saw the girls approaching.
It was the third time that day that you walked by Chris and he didn’t wave back when you greeted him. The first time you thought it was because he hadn’t seen you, the second time because he was in hurry, but the third time you were sure he had looked in the other direction as soon as he had seen you. Your doubts were confirmed when you went with Noora to meet William. As soon as Chris spotted you, he left without a word, leaving you being the third wheel all alone. Was he really that angry at you for not telling him what the present was? You were determined to find out but for the rest of the day you were unable to catch him. You decided you would confront him that night at the birthday party of one of the Penetrators. That was easier told than done. When you arrived at the party there were so many people already and many of them were drunk that it was impossible for you to find him. After an hour of looking around and asking, you gave up, maybe he wasn’t there. You couldn’t even find William, even though you were sure he was making out with Noora somewhere. You sat on a couch with a bottle of beer in your hand, right next to a couple making out. You sipped your beer slowly, looking around to see if you could find at least one of your friends but it was useless, there were too many people. You had almost given up when you spotted Eva’s red hair. She seemed to be making out with someone but you couldn’t see who it was. You sighed and got up to leave. You headed for the door but it was impossible to cross the room, so you had to walk near the wall and pass near Eva and the boy pressed to it. When you got nearer you saw that someone else was kissing him and a third girl was dedicating her attention to his neck. You had a terrible feeling. You didn’t want to see who the boy was but you had to go near them to reach the exit. You tried to avoid looking at them but you couldn’t help it, your gaze fell on his face and in one second you regretted everything you had done in the last weeks, especially going to that stupid party. Chris was there, kissing three girls at the same time like it was normal. And probably it was for him. You had said it yourself: he was the greatest fuckboy of the school. Before you could realize, you were running outside, the bottle still in your hand and tears forming in your eyes. You stopped running only when you were far away from that house. You had to accept you had feelings for Chris in the worst way possible. Still crying, you took the bottle to your lips and drank it, too quickly for your standards. When you finished it, minutes later, you felt light-headed and totally drained of your energies. You were so tired and it was so cold outside, the temperature was way below the zero and you noticed you had forgotten your coat, with keys and phone in it. Great!
You headed home, hoping your parents were still awake.
Your father opened the door sleepy, not really understanding what was going on, which spared you any question. You went directly to your room and threw yourself on the bed still crying. You stayed like that till the sunrise, when you finally fell in a restless sleep. You didn’t even register your mother coming to wake you up.
“It’s late; you have to go to school.”
“I’m sick” you replied without opening your eyes before falling asleep again.
You woke up in the afternoon; you dragged yourself out the bed and to the shower. You looked at yourself in the mirror to take the make-up off and you saw how bad you looked.
After the shower you went to the kitchen to eat something and you found Noora talking with your mom in a hushed tone. When they noticed you, they stopped and smiled unnaturally.
“Hey honey, you’re awake! Are you feeling better already?” your mom asked gaining only a shake of your head as an answer.
“Do you want something to eat? There is some chicken” You nodded and took a seat at the table.
“Noora stopped by to bring you your coat. She said you forgot it yesterday at the party” she continued, standing to heat your chicken.
“Yeah, there is phone and keys, everything” Noora added cautiously. “Thanks” you said simply.
“You... you will find some calls from me and the girls, we looked for you before understanding you were gone forgetting the coat” she informed you, looking at you worried.
You rubbed your face with your hands and nodded. “Thank you” you repeated.
“Do you want to talk about it?” she said caressing your arm lightly.
You shrugged. “I think I got sick because I forgot the coat.”
“Okay but why did you forget it?” Noora knew you better that anyone else, she knew you didn’t just forget your things around.
“I was tired?”
“Okay...” she said unconvinced. “So... do you think you will come to school tomorrow?”
“No, I don’t think so, I feel very bad and tired.”
She nodded, still sceptical. “Okay, so I will tell the girls to drop by, they were very worried.” You shook your head before she could even finish. “You can tell them I’m just sick and that I will be better soon and we will see at school after the winter break” you instructed. “Oh... and please, give them my presents” you added getting up to fetch the presents you had already wrapped for the girls, William and Chris. “I put the names on them so it won’t be a problem understanding which belongs to each one of you” you explained coming back with a bag, interrupting a silent exchange between your mom and Noora.
“Okay” Noora got up and took the bag. “So... if you feel any better by Friday you could come to the Christmas party” she said smiling encouraging. You nodded. “Yeah, sure, I will let you know if I feel better”
***
Next afternoon she was back again.
“So, I gave your presents to everyone and I told them you will come back after the winter break. They were sad but they wish you a Merry Christmas and they were happy for the presents, the girls wrote on the group to thank you, didn’t you see?” she said throwing herself on your bed next to you.
You shook your head. “I think my phone is still in the coat, I forgot to charge it, it’s probably dead.”
“Anyway, Chris seemed surprised when I gave him your present, but you said he already knew, so I didn’t get the reason for his surprise” she continued, looking at you subtly, searching for a reaction which didn’t arrive. She paused.
“Who do you hate the most?” she asked seemingly out of the blue. “What?” You were confused.
“Do you hate more Chris or Eva?”
“Why should I hate them?”
She sighed. “When I asked William why Chris was so surprised by the present, he said he wasn’t sure but he probably didn’t expect to receive a present from you after avoiding you all day” she explained patiently. “Do you want to know why he was avoiding you?” she asked hoping again for some kind of reaction.
“Oh, he was? I didn’t notice” you said nonchalantly. She looked at you with a raised eyebrow, clearly not believing you. “What?”
“He was avoiding you because one of the Penetrators, I don’t remember his name, told him that he heard you say that he is only interested in sex and that he would never change for you” she continued.
“This makes no sense. Anyway, he proved me right at the party” you said suddenly dropping the pretence.
“He was hurt!” she retorted.
“Are you defending him?” you asked looking hurt at her. “He kissed Eva and two other girls at the party. I don’t mind who he fucks and makes out with but he can’t act all hurt when I only said the truth.”
She sighed. “He has feelings for you” she stated.
“He doesn’t” you said stubbornly. “If he did, he wouldn’t have kissed those girls, he would have told me what he felt.”
“Would have you believed him?” she asked. “... Probably not” you confessed after a hesitation.
“Will you come to school tomorrow?”
You shook your head.
“At the Christmas party, at least?” she almost begged you, but again you shook your head.
 ***
The next evening she was again in your room, ready for the party, still trying to convince you to go with her, she even had Sana texting you. She always had good arguments but even those weren’t enough this time.
Your dad came to your room to inform you that he and your mom were leaving for dinner with some friends and kissed you on the forehead wishing you and Noora a good night. Then your mom came as well to say goodbye. She exchanged a look with Noora. “It doesn’t matter how you look at her, I won’t go to that party, mom” you said annoyed.
“Oh come on! What will you do here all alone for the rest of the evening?” Noora asked, after your mom had left. “I will read a book” you said shrugging, earning an eye roll from her.
Not ten minutes later she left your house, heading to the party, disappointed that she wasn’t able to convince you. She knew how much you loved Christmas and this party. When she arrived, she had no problem finding William who was talking with Chris. “Is she here?” he asked as soon as she saw her. She shook her head.
“You said you would convince her!”
“I tried, I swear I tried but she was inflexible” she said feeling sorry.
“We tried everything possible” Sana agreed, joining them.
“You should go to her house” William suggested putting an arm around Noora’s shoulders.
“She will never open” his friend protested.
“Noora can text her saying she is there because she forgot something, so she will open” Sana said shrugging.
“Would you?” Chris asked Noora who nodded. “Sure, just tell me when you’re there”
You were watching a film when you received a message. Your phone laid on the coffee table in front of the sofa. You had charged it after Noora had left but you had ignored all the messages anyway. You glanced at it and furrowed confused seeing the sender. You unlocked your phone and read the message.
 From William:
Hey, it’s Noora, I forgot my phone at yours, so I came back, can you open, please?
You shook your head and quickly typed an affirmative answer. You got up and went to open. While waiting for her, you looked around to see if you could find her phone but it was nowhere.
“I can’t find it” you said hearing footsteps approaching and the door closing. You turned and you found Chris standing there.
“What are you doing here?” you asked, your voice cold.
“I need to talk to you” he said attempting a couple of steps.
“We don’t have anything to talk about, leave” you replied firmly, pushing him towards the door.
“Please, just listen to me” he said, resisting. “Let me explain.”
Accepting the fact that you couldn’t move him from the spot, you gave up. “Fine, I’m listening!” you said throwing up your arms and going back to the couch, followed by him.
“I’ve been an asshole” he began. “I’m sorry I ignored you and I’m sorry I hurt you doing such a stupid thing at the party... I... I kind of wanted you to feel like I felt.” You open your mouth to say something but he held out his hands in front of you. “Let me finish please.” You sighed and nodded.
“It was wrong and I regretted it as soon as I understood how much I hurt you but... I was hurt myself. You said that for me it will always be only sex without feelings and... and that you didn’t want to fall for me, but I had already fallen so hard for you... So when Julian told me what he had heard, I... I just stopped thinking and I did some stupid shit” he continued. “So, I know it doesn’t justify what I have done... but...” he hesitated. He wasn’t used to talk so openly about his feelings but he knew that if he wanted to have a chance with you, he had to be completely sincere. “I love you and, please, just give me a chance to demonstrate it, to make it right” he concluded looking at you. You had tried to not showing your emotions for the whole discourse, but sometimes you had failed, rolling your eyes or lowering them to hide how hurt you were.
“Why didn’t you just tell me?” you whispered raising your gaze to meet his.
“For the same reason you didn’t: I thought you didn’t like me” he said shrugging looking intensely back at you. “Especially because you had seen more than most people about me and I didn’t know if you liked it” he added biting his lip nervously making you lose focus.
“How is it possible to not like you, Christoffer Schistad?” you asked shaking your head and looking him in the eyes. “Those thing I saw are the best part of you. That’s the part that made me fall for you, because I had already fallen when I said those things but... I was scared you would hurt me and... and at the party you proved me right and... and...” You took a deep breath. “And I was so angry with myself for believing there could be something between us, something real, not something I had imagined” you explained feeling like you couldn’t hold it back anymore.
“There is, I swear there is” he said taking your hands with his own. “I... I understand if you don’t want to stay with me because you think I will hurt you, but please, give me the chance to make it right” he continued caressing your hands. You looked at them and bit your lip uncertain, then you raised your head and nodded. “Okay, you have one chance only, if you fuck it up it’s over, and if you cheat on me, I will cut your balls and I will hang them to the tree next year” you said trying to hold back a smile and sound serious. He snorted and nodded. “I won’t waste it, I swear” he said before leaning in and kissing you slowly and lovingly. You kissed him back and smiled on his lips.
He pulled back for a moment. “Can I know what the present is now?” he asked smiling amusedly.
“I’m surprised you didn’t open it yet” you commented.
“I’ve been a good boy and waited.”
“Then you can be a good boy for a little longer and wait till Christmas to open it” you replied caressing his cheek and kissing him again.
“If you give me such a wonderful distraction I could even forget about it...” he said between kisses, making you smile once more.
