“What are you doing in my house?” Usually Human would have followed that with a vehement and maybe even physically aggressive, “Get out!” But something about the huddled figure’s wet clothes and large amber eyes stopped them short.

They squinted. “Do I…know you?”

“Sorry,” the figure murmured. “It was raining so hard…and you’re the only one who’s ever invited me in. I didn’t know where else to go.”

Alanna Villin:

Alanna is the sad twin who, by the sad chance of fate, became a vampire and thus walks the streets of London looking for lovers who she feeds on. Consequently, this makes her extremely upset and regretful because she acts according to her instinct. Hating every second of her unlife, she waits hopefully for a cure

Lenore Villin:

Lenore is the twin who is confident and independent and cares a lot about her sister and her condition. Super interested in vampirism, she looks for solutions, potions and everything possible to cure her sister. Even seeking help in cults, groups and brotherhoods, she was never successful, but her fight to help Alanna will not stop until the day she dies.

(which will not happen, as Lenore also becomes a vampire in the future, to share the same fate as her beloved sister)

I just looked at a prompt basically saying in a world of vampires, humans are considered myths and scary meat eaters. Now I keep seeing and hearing a group of vampires being harassed by a minotaur and their human teenager screaming from outside the tavern “I smell BACON!!!” And then barging into the tavern searching for the bacon with a knife or axe and causing absolute chaos. Or some other shenanigans.

The Great Rivalry

I’ve been laid up in bed all week with covid and decided to read “Dracula” for the millionth? time  (hey who’s counting).  It’s a timeless story about good versus evil battling for dominance. Being the vampire geek that I am, I was again awed at the epic battle between Dracula and Van Helsing.  Dracula will stop at nothing to get what he wants from the humans around him, while Van Helsing will stop at nothing to protect them. This powerful human and vampire have become the paradigm for every human and vampire rivalry that has come after. 

One such rivalry that has always captivated me is Jerry Dandridge and Charley Brewster from “Fright Night.”  I admit that Jerry and Peter Vincent would be a better fit, but there’s always been a certain something about the struggle between Jerry and Charley that grips me in a such a way like no other. With the release of “Fright Night: Origins,” my interest in exploring their dynamic has piqued again.  Jerry and Charley represent the struggle between good versus evil, yes, but are so much more:  shadow and light, confidence and fear, corruption and innocence, vice and virtue, despair and hope, hate and love, respectively.  

 I could write a whole damn essay on this.  In fact, I think I will.

Bloody fingers streaked across the window, pounding and clawing unceasingly against the manor’s thick glass. But even if it did break? What was the difference? The vampire hardly invited anyone in their home. Certainly not the riffraff.

The vampire outside shrieked, baring it bloody fangs in feral desperation. “Let me in! Let me slit their throat! Let me drain them dry!”

The manor’s owner simply slow blinked in the pathetic creature’s face.

Suddenly the vampire felt a warmth behind their arm, hardly perceptible to another living thing, but to a cold-blooded creature like themself, it was like flame.

“You should be resting,” they said calmly.

“I-Is this really safe?” the human whispered, ringing their shirt in their fists and staring wide-eyed as the outside vampire began slamming its head against the glass.

The vampire drew the curtain shut, taking the human by the elbow and guiding them gently back upstairs. “A vampire needs an invitation to enter any private premises. Your safety is guaranteed.” They shot a dark grin. “The only vampire you have to worry about is me.”
