In my head canon Silco stops bottoming after Vander. He will only top even though he hates it cause he hates the thought of being that vulnerable ever again more. When they first get back together he convinces Vander to bottom once just to see but starts crying half way through cause he hates the fact that he doesn’t feel as safe and loved that way and that’s always how he wants to feel with Vander.

I know ‘Ma Meilleure Ennemie’ is intended for Ekko & Jinx but boy did I wish there were a few background pixels of Vander and Silco during that scene since the lyrics speak so strongly to their relationship.

I mean…come on now:

There’s the explicit ‘Your past will follow you and wage war on you’ which is applicable to every character in this show. But the hereditary nature of Vander and Silco’s conflict which haunts the entirety of season ones narrative, reinforces the extent to how deeply routed their emotions were in this ideology and this commitment to Zaun and also to each other, until it wasn’t. Hence the doomed tragedy of it all.

The repeated blurring of lovers and enemies, and the line ‘why does your name hurt me when it hides right there in the vicinity?’ Does that not remind anyone else of when Vander was searching for Silco. And the paradox that was their ‘Vicinity’ where there was a physical distance between them yet they shared the mutual knowledge that they could always meet at The Last Drop if ever Silco wanted to contact Vander. Since that location was - emotionally - ground zero for them; ‘Blisters and Bedrock’, They were so close yet so far from one another during that time.

Somehow, whatever your interpretation, Alt universe Silco and Vander overcame those adversaries.

And since this song exists in-universe and is playing IN THEIR BAR, it means somebody added it to the bars playlist.

You know, I originally thought this was a kind of serene picture of Silco. He's young, working at the Last Drop with Vander by his side. The bar and Vander must feel like such places of safety that Silco could let his guard down and sleep.

My favorite headcanon to include in all my Vanco fics is that Vander had more of a hand in their falling out than the show lets on. I subscribe to the headcanon that the river scene happened before the bridge scene since Vander looks much older than in the flashback where he attacks Silco. (despite season 2....) Other than that, I almost always make at least one character in the dynamic trans. No one can pry that HC out of my dirty little hands even if they really, really want to LOL

I will die on the motherfucking hill that the writers NEVER intended on expanding on Vander/Silco relationship. They were solely there to serve as parallels for Vi/Jinx and I think their backstory was kept vague on purpose because the FOCUS was Vi/Jinx.

Vi/Jinx are the main characters.

Unfortunately, Silco and Vander became way more popular than they expected.

The main writers being on SM and most likely seeing fanbases grow for Vander and Silco probably surprised them.

There is NOTHING is S2 to suggest this bs writing was their game plan from the very beginning. I refuse to believe that many plotholes (most created in S2) and fuck ups in details were made when S1 is a work of art.

Fortiche was soooo detailed in the animation and I have a hard time believing so many continuity errors were present when the TINIEST details are ever present throughout the season. You don't go into that much detail to royally fuck up and major scene (Silco's drowning).

It's Riot's poor writing in S2 that was the big screw up. It was pure fan service and poor writing that comes from blah sources like MCU and Disney. Everything that made S1 so unique and brilliant was sidelined for the most cliche plot devices.

Felicia inhanced NOTHING. It would have been better to focus on Vander/Silco/Benzo and the fallout. Why does Silco detest Benzo so much in S1? We'll never know.

The addition of Felicia only created serious problems for the story and ruined character development.

I will say until I'm blue in the face that Vander/Silco fans (whether Vanco or not) had better HC and fanfiction ideas of why the fallout happened in that time frame.

It would have been better for Riot to leave it alone if they weren't going to do it justice. All they did was cheapen the characters and make them OOC that S1 doesn't make sense when it made perfect sense prior to S2.

The amount of character assassination in S2 is why I cannot watch it again. I watched all of S1 again and still love it. I don't need S2 at all.

if silco and vander were friends with felicia, close friends at that, he was probably around when the girls were born. at LEAST, when vi was born. i mean felicia told them both at the same time, vander helped pick a name right in front of him, he agreed to help make zaun a better place for those girls.

and maybe he and vander had a fall out due to clashing interests in how to go about piltover (though i find this unlikely), but their real fight only happened after felicia died in the war at the bridge, as vander stated in his letter to silco. a letter which also implies that they could have gone back to being close (as they do in the powder timeline).

this all makes sense to believe that silco knew the girls, and helped raise them. however young they were, he was around. and despite his fight with vander, the powder timeline also tells us that he wasnt SO resentful that he would abandon them forever.

so why? WHY in hell did silco consider killing both vi and powder when he kidnapped vander?

he was okay with killing vi with his shimmer monster and all his other goons, and only wanted her as a weapon later. he considered killing powder with a knife when he found her near vander's body. he called her "little girl", as if he didnt know her. both her and vi knew about silco's abd vander's ex friendship. at least later on in life, they did. if they didnt they definitely would be more surprised by finding their stuff together and the letter.

still, s1 silco acts like he doesnt know the girls. considers killing them, or using them. as if jinx only grew on him later on and wasnt someone he already knew.

i feel as if the writers wanted to make a "big bad guy" out of him in s1, and didnt have the full scope of his moral compass and background in mind when doing it. he is inarguably made to be the villain, and they did it all to try and make him the worst possible, so that when he "turned out to actually love jinx and do things for her good" it would be more of a surprise to the audience.

except s2 breaks all of that. and its not to say i dont like his backstory, or him as a character. he was definitely one of my favorites since i first watched years ago, and i was so sad when he died. but if they intended on bringing him so close to vander, and at such a point in time too (because he could have been friends with vander BEFORE felicia, and then they had their fall out), why write him so detached in the first place?

not to mention, the reason why he and vander fought is left to interpretation for the most part. we have implications: that it was after the war; that they had conflicts of interest; that both of them were very shocked by felicia's death. and we also have others: that had he read the letter vander left him, they might have become friends again; that he wasnt SUCH a terrible person as to not forgive his closest friend.

but it is very confusing what the intentions were with his character and backstory, and it makes me sad because it could have been so much better.

A Dark Theory on Silco's Involvement in the Creation of Warwick

I think we all agree by now, the writing is on the wall, and Vander is actually being turned into Warwick by Singed. We get a glimpse of the work in progress in the finale :

Now, if we do accept it's Vander... then we have to wonder how exactly Singed managed to get his enormous, deformed corpse into his cave lab, which is near the top of Zaun (as per Viktor's memories) and far from the harbor. Because as Vander lies dead at the back of the cannery, I think Singed is a little busy with his fresh burns :

He's even shown to still be struggling with his bandages for them years later (which I'm baffled by, pls send HCs to explain this shit to me, pls don't let it be him wearing the same bandage for 7 to 10 years lmao).

So yes, I don't think Singed could realistically stagger out of the cannery's basement, clock Vander dead on the ground, and think "oooh, a prize!" and drag him out to his lair, X many kilometers away, while himself in critical condition.

I also don't feel like Silco would be walking away without a contingency plan for Vander's body, even if it's just a matter of having him rolled off into the bay to feed the fishes.

So here's what I propose :

The only able bodied people around the cannery that night are members of Silco's gang. He had them grab Vander. He gave Vander to Singed. He not only knows he's being experimented on, he probably greenlit the project.

Of course I hate it. I'm a Vanco shipper at heart... But I can't help feeling it gels with Silco's outlook on life. I think he's a materialist, but considers Vander truly gone and dead. His body is not who he is. I'd like to think he'd be horrified to realise Warwick retained vague memories or emotions of his past life.

But putting Vander's corpse to good use, when Vander himself would not be useful to the cause? Why not?

What Silco wanted for Vander

Sorry @arcane-ish for the delayed reply.

Here's why I don't subcribe to, and don't even understand, the theory that Silco planned to use shimmer on Vander.

1 - Silco uses Vander as bait.

He's put in the chair, everyone hides and waits. This is clearly done to see who is on Vander's team and ready to risk rescuing him, and getting rid of them. They would be the opposition of Silco's group. It's just sad that Vander has no one else but the kids, but voila.

2 - Silco literally uses a euphemism for "killing Vander & the children"

"Vander Fled Town" doesn't sound like "Vander is becoming my shimmer super soldier" to me...

3 - There is no proof that shimmer has any mind control abilities anywhere in the show.

Deckard is a little dipshit who takes no convincing to jump on shimmer despite his misgivings. He's been part of Silco's crew for unknown time. He wants to prove himself, and once he's addicted, you can safely assume he wants to keep pleasing Silco and get more shimmer, sure, but he's on Silco's team. All the people in the picture above go against Vi willingly after she lays all of them out, including the biggest guy of them all. They're clearly loyal and willing to risk injury for their boss. Maybe they're too confident too, sure, but like, team Silco doesn't need coercion.

When Silco sicks the addicts on Vi, he's buying their work with shimmer. It's a straightforward "I will give you this if you do that". There are no orders being voiced. The show never shows shimmer as having mental effects beyond those of addiction. Otherwise I doubt so many people would be using it on themselves.

4 - Shimmer isn't ready, and Vander is an insane threat.

I don't understand how people see what Vander becomes with shimmer and think Silco would want even *risking* that. Shimmer isn't even properly finished. They're rushing their plan forward, and Deckard is, as far as we know, the first human being experimented on. I see absolutely no reason why the second human should be Vander? He's strong enough to go toe to toe with shimmer-deckard, after getting concussed, surviving an explosion, and shrugging off a concrete wall.

Vander is a monster sober. Why would Silco want to empower him and potentially risk him going wild?

Vander takes shimmer and keeps his sanity : he recognises Silco, reacts to the fear Vi shows, and makes a quick thinking decision instead of acting on urges. If Silco *had* given him shimmer, it would have been a terrible mistake. Clearly he would have broken out of the chair, and certainly killed everyone. I don't think Vander is the type to fold to addiction.

Silco KNOWS in episode 1 that Deckard will "volunteer" because he just got handed his ass to him by a teenage girl. In front of his gang. Deckard is a boy with a bruised ego, of course he folds under Silco's speech on power, and then he's addicted to the sense of power shimmer gives him. Vander is already extremely powerful, I'm sure it'd take a ton of mental torture for him to break down and be a slave to shimmer.

Conclusion - I have never seen it and hearing the HC has not changed my mind at all. I'm not headcanon bashing, because anything truly floats, but it's also a HC I don't understand and can't get behind. It just doesn't make sense *to me* in-world that Silco would ever want to go that route. He's way too careful and calculated and patient. If he did, he'd have to want to do a ton of experiments on shimmer first, to make sure he gets the desired effect. And yet he canonically voices to his entire group how Vander is basically like a dog "going to live on a farm upstate".

The only logic I can get behind is him killing him and then gifting him to Singed to try and engineer a mindless super soldier (even if it hurts my Vanco heart).

My reading of this entire scene is that Silco offers Vander a chance to rejoin the movement. Shimmer is the argument : with it they can truly destroy enforcers. Vander himself could take it, but even if he didn't, Silco would probably accept him in his ranks anyway (old sap). It's that or DIE. And Vander choses death.

"I'll show you what you really are" imo is just a threat. Silco will kill whoever comes for Vander in front of him anyway. He probably expects Vander to go apeshit at the sight (and I'm sure he would have if Vi had died).

What "Vander really is" is not a shimmer monster mindless slave. It's the Hound, a monster who drowns his best friend/ally/ex whatever to gain power. Silco is just infuriated by his meek act.

RE: the vanco anon. JayVik enjoyer here. Very occasionally, we'll get people in the tag going "omg why would you ship that, Jayce said Viktor's like his brother!!!1!!!!! How dare you HC him as anything but straight!!!!" (but the former "argument" not nearly as much as Vanco from my observations. My theory is cuz Silco says "brother" like, a million times in the show but that doesn't invalidate your points in the slightest) and the general response is to ignore the person and block them. Or go "lol fuck off" and then block if you're feeling spicy.

Oh I bet you have. In French we have a saying that basically if dumb people could fly, you wouldn't be able to see the sky.

I feel like people who throw these types of tantrums are forgetting that in fandom we're just a bunch of kids on the beach playing with dolls and building sand castles.

When one comes up to me and tries to tell me I'm playing with my dolls wrong, I have to look at them and calmly remind myself that no, I shouldn't throw a handful of sand in their face, that I might be building sand castles but I'm still a grown ass adult.

Some of these one track mind fandom police wet blankets are literal kiddos. The adults among them are worse than kids and the only way to go about it is to slap that block button like it's Silco's bonny ass (or Viktor's ig).

Bahahaha, what a great rambly comment! A reader thinking this hard about my fic is the reaction I love, no matter the content of the thoughts! I'm just painting my picture, but I can't tell you what to see and enjoy, but I can see you looking and that's the thrill!!

Regarding the politics, Silco's goals are all extensively covered in my main fic, Fathers and Daughters (from my hcs).

Silco had explained, because he always does. He told Vi how his plan then had been to use shimmer to give people an edge during an attack on Piltover. Everyone would have been given a single vial, to use like a weapon. Withdrawal would have been shit and it wouldn't have mattered one bit, because Piltover would have been shocked into submission by then. Scared off from ever trying to police Zaun, forced to give them their freedom, or suffer another attack.

That's how I pictured the OG plan... The new plan was briefly mentioned, but will be delved in later, in much greater detail.

I am indeed not interest in the opnion of she-who-didn't-write-Silco-and-Vander-but-still-tweets-about-it.

I do like some of your ideas... They make me think! I feel like the timetable moving up is them going from the small single vial we see Singed using in episode 1, to the start of mass production of episode 3. And you're right, Silco is accelerating things because Vander's kids being the cause of all the chaos with enforcers is a fabulous opportunity.

My take, since I'm a rabid Vanco shipper, is that Silco wants the kids captured to get Vander back on his side, literally in any capacity. Either the kids are taken or Vander loses it and breaks his deal with Grayson by defending the kids. Given Marcus' failure, Silco moves anyway, wanting to capitalise on the unrest.

I think he had that faint hope, that Vander might still join... But is overall far too mistrustful for them to ever be equal again. And resentful enough that with everything gone to shit, the place exploded up, his entire plan potentially in flames around him, he risks his life to kill Vander and get his payback, if nothing else.

There's also an element of Vander being a drag for the entirety of Zaun. Because he's so respected/feared, Vander enforces the stagnation. The lack of conflict prevents people from rising up on their own. Silco probably believes that the least he can do for his "free nation of Zaun", afte having killed so many enforcers earlier that day, is to kill Vander now. In hopes that people would rise up again when payback comes around.

'Vander's a wall in the way of our progress, he has to go,' that was Silco's reasoning. 'Vander is the status quo that keeps our heads under water.'

See, I genuinely don't buy that Vander has any idea as to where Silco is. Because otherwise he'd be dumb as a rock to not keep eyes on him. And I don't think Vander would let Silco get away mass producing shimmer if he knew about it or where to find him.

He also looks so surprised when Silco comes out of the mist... Not the look of a man who's been keeping tabs.

That's why I ended up going with the angle of Vander being extremely guilty about what he did to Silco... but also not the type to look his errors face on (unlike Silco). He wants sooo badly to forget.

That's the duality of my Monster Within / Monster Without fics. Silco wants to master the name of Vander, and his emotions attached to it:

'Vander,' he says. 'Vander.' His amber black eye glows, his scared lip curls in a sneer, but the hatred doesn't blossom. His mind doesn't fog with bloodthirst. 'Vander—oh, I should thank you, one day,' Silco murmurs, fingers trailing down the gouges in his face.

While Vander wants nothing more than to stop hearing Silco's name, and forces him into further isolation by making the Lanes as a whole a place in which he can't safely exist.

Even as he settles in new routines, Vander's mind stays inflamed. He backhands a man for asking if Silco betrayed him. Punches another for comparing them. His knuckles are raw with Silco's name, and soon people stop asking questions. They fear the Hound and his short temper, the monster he takes no pain to hide away and wears like armour; but fear breeds respect and Vander looks after them dutifully.

I have had ideas on Silco killing Vander or vice versa, but no drive to explore them yet. I just don't find those narratives as compelling for these two, but I'll probably get there one day.

I do feel like Vander has no motif for killing Silco... Since he says he's "never forgiven himself" for what he did to him, and he rules with impunity, I guess he can take this superior approach to this small man he once nearly broke. Silco was weak. Silco is easy to kill. Silco is a dreamer. Silco was once loved. Silco (as Vander knew him) was not ruthless enough to be a real threat. And so Vander can afford to let him live, so long as he doesn't dare show his face.

And after 10+ years of not showing his face at all, he appears out of the billowing mist with a monster. Bet Vander did feel like an idiot then!

But all interpretations are good! I'm just building all my works off this pretty Dark!Vander take, with a very long gap between the betrayal and Act I, so I'm well aware I won't see eye to eye with She who should not tweet, and many other writers! Heck, I don't even give Silco a background in the mines, I'm basically a heretic by now!

A take on Vander knowing where to find Silco, the two of them co-existing actively, would be fascinating as well. It would make Vander even more complex. IDK if I could pull of the intricacies of these too running business in parallel!

This is a sad Silco/Vander fic, almost closer to Silco & Vander, for all that it has a kiss. One long, final kiss. This fic is canon compliant and is coming after your feels.
