Vox refused to disappear or stop the train he'd worked on building for so long; he told himself you'd want him to keep working, even though he knew you'd always tell him to take a break

All variations of that sentence were what you'd ease him with when he found himself walking a step too fast, pacing as he worked through every last concern of his

Constantly, he would overwork himself into a rebooted system, tech failing since he'd forgotten to update it, maintain it, and do all the things you'd remind him of

You could never forget his maintenance needs; you always wanted him to be healthy and presentable

Without you, he'd work himself till he broke apart

Worst of all was that now that you were gone, he had to put up with everyone alone

Vox was always irritated by Velvette's bitching and Valentino's whining; you'd listen to him rant in frustration for hours, making inside jokes about the other Vee's worst moments

It was all just bottling up inside of him, to the point where he felt he'd fallen back into his old routine

Nothing but a heartless machine, still trying to run off the high you gave him all those years

On the surface, the Vees celebrating their potential takeover of a "power vacuum" now that "Alastor's missing" doesn't make any sense, since Alastor or any of the other Overlords didn't die in the battle which is something the Vees are aware of. But even though Alastor didn't die, his fleeing the battle and being the only one to do so is proof that even he has his limits, regardless of his fearsome reputation. And if anyone's going to take advantage of undeniable proof that the Radio Demon "fled with his tail between his legs," it's going to be the Vees.

An alt-universe's version of The Owl House's final season

"Thanks to Them" - Luz, Amity, Willow, Gus, Hunter and the Palismans get stuck in the human realm after King's heroic sacrifice. Luz properly meets Vee and reconciles with her mother.

"HalfWay House Noceda" - The Demon Realm kids attempt to make themselves 'useful' to Luz and Camilla by doing chores around the house even though their magic/skills are a bit more of a detriment. Meanwhile Luz shows Camilla some videos she took of Eda to prepare her for meeting the Owllady and King and Camilla is unnerved but also thrilled.

"Abduction of the Innocents" - Vee and Hunter have a heart to heart while everyone else pretends to like Camilla's and Luz’s favorite movies, except of course for Gus, who is inspired by the images on screen to really explore his illusion powers for Camilla. 

"Next to Nowhere" - Luz begins school again and ruminates over accidentally helping Philip, but her friend's determination help's her to keep going. Also Amity and Luz bond over Azura with Amity being able to tell Luz that she doesn’t like the Azura movies. 

"Kids of Gravesfield" - The other Palisman have been noticing Flapjack pacing around and both hiding something from the kids while also looking for someone. Luz and Hunter investigate a certain feeling they have around town while the rest of the gang heads to the Gravesfield Historical Society to get answers. Unbeknownst to everyone, Belos is amassing power and does something to Jacob Hopkins. 

"Season's Feedings" - On Halloween Night the kids learn the story of brothers’ Wittebane. Through this Luz regains some of her glyph magic by finding the portal Evelyn and Caleb originally used. Hunter gets possessed by Belos who kills Flapjack, but Hunter gets unpossessed. With just enough Titanblood to take them to the Demon Realm, Camilla joins the kids after Belos while Vee stays home to cover for them being missing.

"For the Future" - A look as to what our Demon Realm friends have been doing all this time; King keeps the Collector entertained, Lilith and Eda try and reach the immobilized citizens, and Hexside becomes a safe haven for the unconverted kids of the Boiling Isles. 

"Outside, Over Here" - The Collector, King and the Clawthorne sisters begin actually knowing Collector and bonding over his past - but things get interrupted by the Owl Beast and further interrupted by Lilith being puppet-ized for 'bad behavior'. Or, is it? Lilith, Hooty and the Owl Beast begin their own psyche-plotting within their inner mind and find a way to communicate with Eda and King despite still being puppets.

"Revenge of the Bad Girl Coven" - Just as it looks like Matholomule is coming into his own, Boscha decides she's taking over the remains of Hexside after her Grugby Team are turned into Puppets and two new students appear on campus.

"Watching and Dreaming" - Luz, Camilla and the crew return to the Boiling Isles and discover what's left of the Owl House and Hexside. They aren't alone, however, as Belos has also returned. 

"After All" - Amidst Boscha's reign of terror, Luz heads to the basement to recount her memories of Philip's shortcut to the head of the titan. The kids ultimately thwart Kikimora's takeover with the help of the Bat Queen though not before Willow finally looses her cool. Luz on the other hand finally meets her palisman, Stringbean. 

"The Brothers Wittebane" - Flashback episode that shows the complicated life of farmhand-turned Witch-husband Caleb Clawthorne and the brother he didn't mean to leave behind."

"Collector Says" - In an attempt to get more information on the archivists and what happened to the Titans, King and the Collector travel once again to the Titan Trappers, who listen to whatever the Collector says. Luz and Stringbean get separated from Camilla.

"How it shouldn't have Ended" - Luz, King and Eda all get reunited in an unconventional way while befriending Collector, while Belos makes a break for the Heart of the Titan to amas his final body.

"Inbetweens" - Belos' uses various hosts to get to the Titan's body which he takes over and starts destroying the Boiling Isles in his wake, but also leaving behind the now-mobilized hosts (Covenheads, Raine, harpy-Lilith) who each help Eda, Luz, King and Collector get to Belos from the inside out. Luz jumps in the way of the Collector being killed and appears to die herself, setting off Eda and King.

"Now Eat this SUCKAAH" - The puppet-ized kids regain their consciousness and begin fighting back and freeing the others under the Collector's spell. Luz wakes up in the in between realm and is helped out by King's dad in finding a way to get out and defeat Belos using the magic of the Titan. In the end Belos melts in the boiling rain and the Collector thanks everyone and goes to confront his family.

"Gone Bygones" - Peek into a bright, Belos-less future for all the characters.

Upside of this alt reality = proper Gus and Willow development, resolution to the Batqueen, actually seeing Caleb and Evelyn andbeebybaby Belos, an answer as to who really made the original portal door, more Stringbean, Lilith having her moment of bonding/actualization with the Owl Beast, resolution on the Titan Trappers, and just a final season overall to really close out the series and send off the characters we all love.

Downside to this alt reality = because Disney's no longer funding it the animation had to be finished by Dingo Pictures and all the voice acting is done by Chris Pratt. Also a nuke went off and we're in the middle of WWIII officially.

you seem like a Velvette fan so im going to prioritise her. there is a terrible dearth of shippy content with her, so i've included some platonic fics that you can squint at.

The Vees talk about how there room for them to takeover Hell. And like how. The extermination was only at the Hotel. We see that the other Overlord are still alive. There line makes zero sense. Respectless makes zero sense they talk a big game about fighting back but don't.

Wonder if some things in the post credit scene were also things they had plan to flesh out. Like Daruis relationship with Hunter being explore more. And Harpy Lilith. Still happy we got this. I also didn't even know about the post credit scene as it was cut off from Tv version. First I was worried about Vee as it the version that air in my country didn't show her. So I fear she was trap on Earth alone.

Yeah, most likely. I feel like a lot of things didn't get fleshed out as much as it should've. Like Belos and the Heart. Like if he could takeover it this whole time....why not do it before? He knew where Titan Blood came from, why was it such a huge surprise that the TITAN'S HEART would have magic in it??? Did he think it was a decoration? 😆 Also, why did the heart beat fast anytime he experienced pain or anger? I assumed he was connected to it somehow already.

I also thought a lot of the Collector stuff could've been cut down. Like we spent a lot of time showing what we already knew about them, especially with Collector truly wanting to play with King, Luz, and Eda. Also, him suddenly not understanding human emotions is odd. He used the same thing against Belos more than once. For example, how he made fun of Belos for being so nervous and how he's barely human. Also, this child laughed at the possibility of Belos liking killing the grimwalkers. Also, that rhyming thing he did when first met him about "taking revenge"?? Like...am I supposed to just forget that?

And a lot of Belos's backstory is kind of just empty now. They wrote that he was "born evil". Like, no, this man had a genuine reason for his action and felt guilt over it. What do you mean??? Why put so much effort and thought into his backstory, as well as being a foil for Luz, if you're just writing him off like that?? And also have Luz mention their causes being the same AND with her being in Belos's outfit AND bring up the whole thing about forgiveness. Why give such a tragic character that kind of backstory and theme music, if he was just evil the whole time?

Also, the fact that Luz's, Eda's, and King's nightmare sequences being more like trailer fuel than having much reason to exist. I guess you can say about the light thing, but even Amity must've not remembered because she's shocked that it worked. (Unless she was talking about moving her puppet on her own?)

Btw, I know that NONE of this is the TOH crew's fault. It's all 100% Disney. I'm just so upset that there's so much still unanswered and that they were cut short like this. What I would give if Disney just allowed them to have a full season or even just a couple more eps.

What would your OCs do if they took over your phone/blog?

I have done this previously with Tumblr specifically, so now I will just do the phone generally! Also I am gonna do characters from both book 1 and 2 of my WIP series, Testaments of the Green Sea. Narul As with last time, unfortunately Narul is just a bit too big for most phones and would likely accidentally break it. However, should he somehow find a way to use the phone without breaking it, he would love the camera features. He would never take a selfie but he would photograph practically everything else. The sky, interesting trees, flowers, Ninma, small animals, interesting rocks, and so on and so forth. Ninma

Ninma be all over social media, starting up fights, and generally being a menace. She would be obsessed with mobile games and tiktok, gotta have that STIMULATION.

Istek would swing wildly between watching history documentaries, Rick Steves travel docs, and thirst traps on social media. After discovering the concept of nudes he would be incredibly eager to share his own with his partners, Dati and Sihunu, though as they wouldn't have phones of their own this would mostly consist of him literally showing them on the phone itself.

Would look up all that he can on birds. This is a jokey “hostile show takeover” episode, courtesy of a salty golden fish.

GILDEROY: SURPRISE! It’s me, Gilderoy, Live in the Demon’s Lair to give all o’ you a message, from the salty heart of Finnsmouth,

(DEMON surfaces out of the water.)

GILDEROY: Alongside me, the venerable Ancient Demon That Haunt The Waves.

DEMON: You all know who I am, or ya will, soon enough,(laughs). So, what’s got you so worked up, Gilly?

GILDEROY: Well, you see, Boss, a little Smallfry told me that there’s a World Tour going on, where artists all over the planet are getting a slice of the world’s stage….AND GUESS WHAT! No one thought to invite moi, Gleaming Jewel of Finnsmouth, Voice of the Devouring Abyss, to the party!

Vee: what’s one of your favorite outfits that s/i has worn?

Goodness, it’s nearly impossible to choose! However, if I must narrow it down, I would pick an outfit that Miss Pad.mé had gifted her as a birthday present. I would show you a picture of her in the dress, but I was so stunned that taking a picture completely slipped my mind. In fact, according to Kaiyo I was so still she was afraid I had rebooted! Miss Pad.mé has sent me a picture of the dress she took before purchasing it. It doesn’t have the same effect as Kaiyo wearing it, but in case you were curious to see it, here it is:

Oh, certainly. You know, I was surprised to find that out, actually, as most of the time it seems others are less than interested in what I have to say. However, apparently I’m somewhat of a phenomenon among droids for being one of the first droids to have a human partner, and for being without a master. In my job as spymaster, I regularly communicate with droids all across the galaxy, some of whom had admitted they look up to me. Hmph, at least some beings recognize my talents. As for Kaiyo, she drops by to help train some of our resistance recruits. She’s somewhat of an enigma to most of the other rebels because she keeps to herself, but some of them seem to truly look up to her. One day she came to me and said “Are we, like…role models? I’m so not a good influence, especially since I constantly drag you away from your duties…”. Nevertheless, I would say I rather like being somewhat of a mentor for the “new generation” so to speak. And I know Kaiyo secretly likes it too.

dracotok: a golden era in tiktok history

if you’re here, i doubt i need to introduce you to tiktok: the video sharing app. the ‘algorithm knows me better than my best friend’ app, the ‘spread misinformation with vigor’ app, the ‘yeah! i saw someone talking about it on tiktok’ app. the reason i chose it as the main subject of this blog is because while it is relatively new - compared to long standing things like twitter (or x), instagram, and tumblr - tiktok has a grip on the conscious of american consumers like nothing else.

the app is rife with content, absolutely saturated with users, and growing every single day. it’s hard to find someone born after the millennium that doesn't either 1) love tiktok and spend hours on it or 2) absolutely hate tiktok and continue to refuse to download the app.

something that will be mentioned on this blog that (at face value) has little to do with tiktok is the coronavirus pandemic. the spring of 2020 is when i finally folded and downloaded tiktok. i had a weird sense of superiority abstaining from the app previously, when it was still called musical.ly (and was mostly comprised of teen idols lip-syncing to justin bieber), but suddenly the pandemic hit and i, like everyone, was alone and stuck inside. thus we all turned to our phones and found solace in tiktok.

downloads of tiktok absolutely boomed in the first two quarters of 2020 and because of this parasitic takeover of the internet, previously existing groups of fans inevitably moved over to tiktok. this migration thus creating an entirely new and dominant chapter of fans on the app. one of the most infamous examples of this population increase is the subject of today’s blog post: DracoTok.

DracoTok derives its name from two things: Draco Malfoy and TikTok.

Draco, of course, being the popular antihero from the fantasy series Harry Potter and known for being not very nice but oh-so-very mysterious.

most communities on tiktok are called by their subject matter, followed by the suffix ‘tok’ (examples: booktok, cleantok, sportstok).

DracoTok was unique because it was the first time that a (quite large) section of the app was dedicated to one (fictional) person. amongst edits and fanfiction, the primary type of video posted on dracotok were P.O.V.s (point of view) tiktoks.

dracotok #povs (pronounced "pee-oh-vees", or "pahvs"), at their simplest, were videos putting the watcher (or the creator) in the position of someone adjacent to draco (mostly his girlfriend, but also his sister, best friend, etc.). situations and events (canonical, or more popularly, non-canonical) would occur and 'you' would be reacting/talking/acting with draco and then the video would end. it was formulaic but such is tiktok. and so, in 2020, with nothing but time on everyone’s hands, dracotok quickly infested the entire app.

within dracotok povs (and also povs at large), there are two main visual categories.

the first being you (the watcher) as y/n (your/name, a common placeholder for the watcher to inject their own name):

you could be either a blank space in the video, meant to be a spot for your imagination to insert yourself in (sitting next to harry in your hogwarts robes) or you could be a pre-existing character, retrofitted with y/n and previous character traits erased (common characters to replace: hermoine, luna, etc.). thus the movie scene would play and you could pretend you were right along with the cast as whatever situation unfolded.

secondly - later and more elaborately, tiktok creators started superimposing themselves into the harry potter movies:

creators would buy prop costumes and wands and would record themselves against a green screen to later edit themselves into movie scenes. these creators obviously were not in the original filming, but with color grading and convincing costuming, it looks like they were rubbing elbows with draco himself.

the audio portion of these povs were usually whatever songs or 'audios' were trending at the time. 'audios' are what make tiktok iconic – they're short clips of music/talking/dialogue that are either original or pulled from somewhere else on the internet - and tiktok encourages you to record videos against these ‘audios' (it’s what makes up most of the app).

because audios are tiktok's bread and butter, the dialogue exchanges in dracotok povs are usually purely in writing – captions written in time to the characters moving their mouths - with some morose song or badass quip playing over the scene. this allows for audio freedom and personalization – you can read your pov damsel in any voice you want.

these videos, at their core, are exercises in escapism. life in 2020 was strange and very scary, so people turned to the things they knew - characters they loved from childhood. it's an understandable evolution of content and a perfect encapsulation of pandemic loneliness.

there is a larger conversation absent from this commentary about fan-made work in general - but that is a very long post for another day.
