DGB Philly delivers again
Would for sure absolutely. Second picture is waaaay more appealing (probably better lighting?? The cheese just looks better). DGB Philly is a nightmare and I strive to go there when I go home—wait what the fuck I’ve passed this place before wait. Wait how have I never

I just finished reading Tender Is the Flesh. I bought it expecting it to be a satire on capitalism or some failed vegan guilt-trip thing and it's an okay book and I was just going to take a quick look at other people's reviews, just for funsies and they are just so funny because it got completely over a lot of people's heads?
Follow me. It's a book about a dystopic what if scenario where a (maybe government/big company caused) virus made animals improper for consumption but people liked meat too much and started to eat people. This is not a spoiler, this is the synopsis.
And all the reviews are like "this book is bad because its too gross" and I mean, you knew the dudes would be out there killing and eating people, you thought it would be sanitized (it kinda is tho, they develop a super industrial process to do it. It is as sanitize as the regular meat industry is)? "The protagonist and other characters are bad! I can't connect with them or their morals! They are not revolutionary and try to fight against the system and find out about the big conspiracy!" Again, it's about a society that collectively decided the minor inconvenience of the cannibalism taboo is not as important as the pleasure of eating meat (there is not even a good reason, everything else is good to eat normally, they just missed meat), what kind of people did you expect to thrive in this story? It's not that deep.

you ever read a book that you feel is perfectly average, and then see a whole bunch of people dunk on it for entirely stupid reasons and feel like you need to retroactively bump up your rating of it

Grace Petrie’s The Vegan Song is just the epitome of romance in my mind. It’s that thing about the small things people do to show you they love and care about you in a very domestic sense.
Like I’m vegetarian and if someone sung anything of the like at me I think I would propose right then and there.

forgot to mention we had a very nice mixed family meal last week and the various diets involved (kosher, kosher+vegetarian, kosher+gluten free, gluten free but not kosher, some other allergies) meant labels on everything (which was awesome and I wish it was more common, speaking as someone that doesn't even have food allergies) with this being the highlight:
