Oh I can tell you soooo much about naruto refusing to let sasuke be alone... especially in the context of the climactic fight scenes I used... the point of the fight when they were kids is that sasuke was freshly retraumatized (in, like, at LEAST three distinct ways) by his murderous brother, so he left the village to train with a certified Bad Dude, and naruto desperately tries bringing him back not only out of patriotism but out of the understanding that sasuke's safety and life would be severely at risk under that mentor... and sasuke explicitly expresses he's trying to kill naruto BECAUSE he's the person closest to sasuke (and only by killing his best friend can sasuke unlock the power he feels will make him capable of beating his brother)... but in the end he can't and won't do it...

And then in the scene where they're adults, sasuke decides the only way to reform their broken world is by losing every last attachment he has to it, and naruto understands immediately that sasuke is just trying to protect himself from more loss and REFUSES to let it stand. The fight is explicitly a battle between two lonely men who grew from two lonely boys who have always only had each other 😣😣😣

1. How many works do you have on Ao3? 

130 (more if you count my side accounts and anonymous fics)

2. What’s your total Ao3 word count? 

958,861 (so close to a million,,,)

3. What fandoms do you write for? 

Right now, primarily Malevolent, but I've written for TMA a lot in the past as well. I also have some ideas for RQG fic since I've been relistening to that podcast!

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

5. Do you respond to comments?

I used to, and I still want to, but I always feel like I need to have something to say more than "thank you so much!" and I get stuck in the paralysis of what to say and then forget to respond at all 😅 but if people ask me a direct question, I will usually answer it!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? 

Hmmm. I write a lot of angst, but I trend towards happy endings rather than unhappy endings, so that's tough.

Oh! So this is on my side account for Malevolent, but The Curation and Preservation of Arthur Lester is probably the closest thing I have to a fic with an angsty ending (that is, it ends very badly for Arthur). Maybe on a more emotionally angsty side, as the pendulum swings? I think that fic generally has an ambiguous/hopeful ending, but only in terms of "they are no longer trapped in the time loop;" all the effects of the loop still remain, consciously or not.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? 

Also a hard question, mostly because I tend to write endings that are a bit.... not open-ended, but more "this isn't 100% resolved but it will be in the future and the steps are there but that's a journey the characters have to take on their own." That said, I think By Virtue of Divine Providence is probably my most straightforward happy ending, where "they lived happily ever after for all eternity" is the general vibe.

8. Do you get hate on fics? 

Not that I know of, though I'm sure it's happened at some point somewhere. Nothing to my face though (yet).

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? 

I do! I typically either write a) sex scenes that fit into the context of a longer fic as a plot point, which tend to be pretty straightforward "sex happened and it was emotional and significant for both people involved" or b) kinky and/or dead dove one-shots that usually get posted on side accounts or anonymously. (Mostly because my bookbinding imprint is tied to this username, and I like to maintain a sort of separation in case anyone IRL comes looking.)

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? 

I'm not a big crossover person, reading or writing. I think I maybe wrote a superwholock crossover when I was 14-15? But that's about it.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? 

I sure hope not!

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? 

Not that I know of, though people have done podfics or bookbinds of my fics before!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? 

No, but I'd love to try it some day!

14. What’s your all time favorite ship? 

100% jonmartin; I'll probably never be over them.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? 

I have an unfinished TMA longfic, Seen, Unseen, Unsung that I have fully outlined but will very likely never finish writing.

16. What are your writing strengths? 

I think I'm good at internal monologues (ie letting the character ramble for a bit), emotional beats (particularly angsty ones), and writing dialogue that sounds like something the character in question would say.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? 

I'm so bad at writing romance (and yet I keep trying 😅). Established romance? Fine, okay, I can do that. Budding romance? I have absolutely no idea and rely pretty much entirely on tropes I've seen in other fics or books/TV shows/movies/etc.. Also, I feel that I struggle a bit with transitions between scenes that aren't hard scene break cuts.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? 

If I do, I usually do something along the lines of, "He said in Spanish, 'Don't go over there!'" for ease of reading and because my translations would probably be horrible.

19. First fandom you wrote for? 

Probably Supernatural.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

Hands-down whiskey old fashioned sour. It's such a fun world to play in, and I really enjoyed writing all the little newspaper/extra tidbits for it, and I have many more ideas swirling around in my brain for it. By Virtue of Divine Providence is a close second though.

JonMartin Café AU because I can

AU where Somewhere Else™ Jon and Martin run a café together. Jon handles most of the business side (money and all that good stuff), while Martin is the 'main face' and handles the actual baked goods and, well, the baking part!

It's a small little place, kind of out of the way and tucked between a trinket shop and a small bank downtown. Overall, it has some big 'cottage core' vibes, with the whole 'retro aesthetic' (Martin's favorite as we all know) as well. The café isn't very popular with little people knowing about it, but they don't really care. All they care about is having each other and that's all that matters :)

Also they have a cat that 'works' there (and by 'works', I mean sleeps in the window and let's people pet it 'works').

But I've also recently written for Pentiment + Pathologic. Big previous fandoms include TMA and Disco Elysium. I also really want to start writing Sherlock Holmes again, tbh.

I do! Around once a week I'll go through and try to get them. Sometimes I can't think of what to say, sometimes it's a quick 'thank you!'.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? 

I can think of two: Catacomb Killer explicitly ends with war breaking out after the case is solved. I debated on this for a long time, but in the end, one of the main decisions the protags make in the end is to give a sensitive piece of intel to what would be the rebels, knowing that it might encourage them to act quickly. And, you know! Consequences.

road trip of the damned (an ode to good cows) doesn't end angstily necessarily, but the entire fic basically ends with 'and Jon gets home and goes to his grandmother's funeral and grieves'. The fic didn't revolve around grief until about halfway thrugh outlining it.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? 

Lighthouse might take the cake - many characters are back from the dead and living in an extended family situation. The Prodigal (or, a Planet Called Petunia) is one of my biggest 'from rock bottom to right on top' stories (because god bless, even Arthur Lester only gets the gift of having more horrors once he scrapes himself off the pavement).

8. Do you get hate on fics? 

Every once in a while! Usually not anything intentionally malicious, though. Mostly people not reading the room.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? 

Typically not exclusively smut! A sex scene every once in a blue moon, though, if the characters vibe. I think subconsciously I include a similar amount of sex that is in the source material.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? 

Not regularly, but a few! I've cross-overed Mistholme with TMA once, and Monstrous Agonies with TMA + Malevolent.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I have! Incredibly kind, it always makes me want to learn the translated language.

I have not!

I think Spirk is the one that will always stick with me, but Johnlock and Jonmartin have had such an impact on me.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? 

I've got two Holmes longfics all outlined out that really excite me, but... oh, man. For some reason sitting down to write them hasn't happened. I also have a Malevolent longfic based on the original stories of the King in Yellow book - which I do want to finish, but it will be horrifically long.

16. What are your writing strengths? 

I think I'm decent with 'oh, so this is what the story's about' moments - like, oh, this story is about discovering meaning or falling in love or learning forgiveness or w/e. I like big, flashy finales. I've also been told my pacing is very good, and generally speaking, I think I'm halfway decent with humor.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? 

Sometimes I think in my drive to push the plot along, I strip away a lot of the fluffier character-buildy moments - and emotional throughlines for characters can be a bear. I've also noticed a recent thing where I'm, like. Omitting a very important part of the scene and just writing a reaction to it. Which is wild and fun to edit with.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? 

Sometimes! Usually when there's no direct translation (or the 'direct translation' is way too stiff).

19. First fandom you wrote for? 

BBC Sherlock, 100% positive.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

Oh, I don't know if I could pick a favorite! Catacomb Killer was so fun to play with the dialogue, and doing the research for formaldehyde and i'm afraid to come home in the dark was cool. I think I might actually pick Interim? (I Hardly Know Him) just because my usual longfics are angsty-ish, but writing Wooden Overcoats fanfic was like writing a sitcom. Was fun!

Favorite: His integrity as a duelist! Jack may be a shit person who -checks notes- threw his friends to the dogs, betrayed his loved ones, and stole Yusei’s ace card and D-wheel, BUT he did also refuse to continue being the King knowing Yusei would have fairly beaten him if the red dragon hadn’t appeared. I think he’s just a funky little guy tbh, he’s a compelling and interesting character

Least favorite: see above the whole point about “abandoning his loved ones for profit”

Favorite line: uhhh I haven’t gotten very far in the anime yet, but maybe “Yes, but it (30$ coffee) makes you feel like a million” this line lives rent free (unlike Crow who has to pay rent)

BroTP: team satisfaction, I guess?

OTP: I’m not far enough to see him have meaningful relationships with anyone except Yusei yet 😭 tentatively I’m gonna say Jack/Carly because I know Of Carly as a Concept

(disclaimer: the Welcome to Somewhere Else universe belongs to @sm0kebreaks @kerink and game-warden. all i have is thoughts and theories)

had some thoughts regarding Callum in WTSE universe, which was prompted by some weird dreams last night (the heatwave and a weird subconscious causes some really ultra weird dreams)

for example "when does he come in?" well, i figured Callum enters Night Vale's universe significally later than Jon and Martin.

think of the distance between Night Street and the Panopticon. 27 episodes between MAG 173 and MAG 200. i would say it's less than half of JonMartin's journey. so the collapse of the Panopticon and the Fears being dragged to "somewhere else" took longer, depending on where in the Fearpocalypse they were.

so Callum appears in Night Vale between Acts 3 or 4, i assume (i may eventually ask the actual WTSE creators about this, but working up my courage cause I'm very shy)

my second take is "what does Rayner to do with this"

allow me to explain.

we don't know for certainty what happened with Rayner in canon. Jon referred him as "died in the light", but i thought his line was more of an assumption than actual truth when Jon interrogated Callum in MAG 173.

this is what happened with Callum: Maxwell Rayner and his ritual to bodyhop Callum failed, in Basira's statement. Callum was saved by Basira and the police that signed Section 31. but Rayner didn't die because he was missing a body to die in, so he had already bodyhopped Callum but the light saved Callum from being taken over,so Rayner lived inside his soul like a parasite.

and he heavily influenced Callum pre- and post- Change.

but as Callum lands in Night Vale, Rayner doesn't need a body to freely exist so a mistake is made when Callum and his friends do an "experiment" that involves an Ouija Board (kids, seriously. do NOT try this, not even in Night Vale). so Rayner frees himself from his vessel, but is still plans his Ritual and wants to take Callum's life as a sacrifice.

the whole Callum vs. Rayner is an mini-act on itself and touches on Callum's relationships with his new dads, especially Cecil.

the third point, "which dad is Callum closest to?"

simple answer? it's Cecil. but Callum is close to all his four dads on equal, different levels. but he has the strongest bond to Cecil.

Callum and Cecil share a bond because it was Cecil who saved his life when Cal was starving to death in Night Vale. and then saved his life a second time when Cal was nearly taken by Rayner. and Callum has 80s vibes as guilty pleasure which Cecil indulges in wholeheartedly. such as aerobics, listening to music on cassette tapes and of course, shopping in the Night Vale Mall.

and the last and fourth question "what happened to Callum's mother, Caroline Brodie?"

easy. she was killed by the Spiral in Helen's "hotel" in the Fearpocalypse. Caroline was searching for her son, got tricked and trapped in Helen's Spiral Hotel where she got herself devoured. a "fragment" of Caroline existed deep within Callum, once he allowed the Eye to take him as an acolyte.

in the Rayner Arc, Cecil dives into Callum's subconscious with Jon's help and to find him (Cal is possessed at this point and unresponsive). Cecil meets with the fragment that is Caroline Brodie and it's revealed she managed to plit and send a small part of herself to her son before she was devoured by the Distortion. Caroline gets the story of what happened to Callum so far and asks Cecil of only one favor: to take Callum as his son, protect and love him until the end of time.

Cecil finds that to save Callum, he needs to make Cal realize he is loved and cherished by his family and it throws Rayner off-guard.

the difference between Rayner and Jon, to an extent, is they're both actual eldritch monsters feeding on fear. but Rayner is completely incapable of understanding love while Jon embraces love as a infinite force that no fear can destroy.

short answer is Cecil decides to honor Caroline Brodie's last wish before she faded into nothingness (or the eternal infinity, as Cecil calls it).

and my point with all this that Callum is a 13 year old boy who got traumatized by an old evil regency eldritch monster and needed to find his path of healing, but not before getting himself lost and then finding the right people who could love and support him, like an actual adult should've done.

I love Mergwaine so much! @zounds-a-blog and I were on top of this one when we watched it together 😤 it's a great ship and I think the fandom is blinded by merthur that they don't consider a lot of other ships for Merlin, which is a shame since this one is so good!! I say it's better in fics just because we don't get to see Gwaine a whole lot with Merlin on the show, so it's fun to see the Situations they go through in fic. Especially give me ones where Gwaine goes off on Arthur for not appreciating Merlin ESPECIALLY cause he knows about Merlin's magic *chefs kiss*. They work whether it's a besties ship or romantic ship, they have the range

It's the template for they can make each other worse and I love to see it ❤️ the comedy is incredible but also the angst factor is so very good because what if Elias actually starts to care about Peter but haha whoops Peter is a Lonely avatar but can't love! Or can he 🤔 They really are JonMartin but make it evil and I absolutely love that for them. They definitely have a cat that they have shared custody of and it transfers between divorces. The cat is evil too btw. The ship makes me lose it and I'm vibing at all times

*chews concrete* THEM okay so the first I watched the train arc with my bestie it was like 3 am and I was kind of tapping out but going back and rewatching the two of them and also seeing posts and consuming fic, this pairing is prob second to lonelyeyes for me. They're so good, the angst is SO easy to write and think abt and I love them your honor. Wasted potential cause if Kyojuro would have become a demon (either willingly or even better UNWILLINGLY) we would have had it all. These two bother each other so much and Akaza is a huge simp who falls in love at first sight and doesn't know how to express his feelings so kills the person he loves sent tweet

I love these two so much!! ❤️ I've never considered them as a ship, but I can def see them being platonic! They both have Gone Through It ™ but Finny has kept his childish whimsy and zest for life that Ciel desperately needs, so this is a case of where they can fix each other!! Rn I think the dynamic is a bit weird since Finny is Ciel's servant, but with current events (spoilers to all not caught up) revealing Ciel is actually fake Ciel and stole his twins identity, and everyone therefore being on the run, traditional barriers can break down and they can become besties. On God Ciel needs more friends 😭

Rohan is MY personal bestie and fav character so unfortunately for Koichi this means Rohan is aroace and therefore not dating anyone <3 But they can def be besties and I love that for them! I do like their friendship that we've gotten to see so far; shoutout to Koichi for being willing to move past Rohan attacking and nearly killing him when they first met all so he could sell more books lmaoo. I do think Rohan can make Koichi more unhinged and make him worse which I think is good for him, king deserves to go apeshit on someone he's too nice

worst ship: Will/El. Is it not only a ship with a gay guy and a girl, they are siblings 😭. Sam and Dean. Again with the siblings. Then for TMA I think all the ships are pretty cool and swag. I do raise an eyebrow at the thought of Melanie/Jon. There’s nothing objectively WRONG with it it’s just the one that I don’t get
