Salterri folk songs & poetry
I wanted to save some old folk songs and poems I had written for a worldbuilding game. I'll just put them here on Tumblr for somewhat easier finding.
The Tragedy of Captain Ia Zhoun
The thunder resounds across the horizon
With waves splashing water into my face
My heart thumps faster as I grip my gun
And for courage I recall my lover's embrace
She was a young maiden with hair white as rice
Her eyes pierced the darkness with verdant green light
I still hear her laughter when I close my eyes
And fondly remember the midsummer night
Oh how far I've travelled since the days I was young
I pray to the spirits that she will be well
And dream of our children to whom I have sung
Many a lullaby and stories I'd tell
The thunder resounds across the horizon
With waves splashing water into my face
My heart thumps faster as I grip my gun
And for courage I recall my lover's embrace
My hair has grown grayer since the first springday time
But she returns my glances completely unchanged
We had danced together just the day 'fore our crime
Of leaving our loved ones from us all estranged
But 'lo hold before us, in the Lord's dying light
The isle-wooden ships of the brigands set sail
Arm now yourself with faith and steel might
You young virile skimmers of the Isle of the Bale
She was a young maiden with hair white as rice
Her eyes pierced the darkness with verdant green light
I still hear her laughter when I close my eyes
And fondly remember the midsummer night
Remember so fondly whom remain in your homes
Guarding the hearthfire for when you return
The wives and the weres and the yet unborn come
With warmth of their love shall no pyres burn
I'll return you all from the first to the last
Your loved ones await you all back at the port
Let the good fight commence from the hull to the mast
May all of you live while yet death's my retort
Oh how far I've travelled since the days I was young
I pray to the spirits that she will be well
And dream of our children to whom I have sung
Many a lullaby and stories I'd tell

Battle Hymn of the Republic should’ve been the U.S. National Anthem. I’d say I’d die on this hill, but oh, who exactly was it that won the war? The Union? Yeah, sounds like I’m very much alive on this hill, unlike the Confederacy. This hill is Union soil, baby, glory glory hallelujah.

parce qu'on s'est crié des mots qui ont sali tous nos plus beaux dessins, on a hurlé des chaudières d'encre noire sur le bonheur
j'expose ma tête, mes yeux, mon cœur et mes mains
si tu reviens
something quiet, gentle, and romantic for today. I’ve been assured it’s suggestive enough for @goodomensafterdark ‘s smut war, so enjoy this soft interlude with suggestive tummy ❤️

This is how I'll keep them in my heart - safe, happy, and together, always ✧₊⁺
This show got me through the worst years of my life, providing so much joy, comfort, and inspiration, I'll never have enough words to express how grateful I am to everyone who's been a part of creating it, and the friends I made along the way.

🎵 They say there's a troopship just leaving Bombay, bound for old Blighty shore,
Heavily laden with time expired men, bound for the land they adore.
There's many an airman just finishing his time, there's many a twerp signing on.
You'll get no promotion this side of the ocean, so cheer up my lads, bless 'em all.
Bless 'em all, bless 'em all, the long and the short and the tall,
Bless all the sergeants and W. O. ones,
Bless all the corporals and their blinking sons,
'Cause we're saying goodbye to them all, as back to their billets they crawl.
You'll get no promotion this side of the ocean, so cheer up my lads, bless 'em all.
They say if you work hard you'll get better pay.
We've heard all that before.
Clean up your buttons and polish your boots,
Scrub out the barrack room floor.
There's many a rookie has taken it in, hook line and sinker and all.
You'll get no promotion this side of the ocean,
So cheer up my lads bless 'em all.
Now they say that the Sergeant's a very nice chap, oh what a tale to tell.
Ask him for leave on a Saturday night and he'll pay your fare home as well.
There's many an airman has blighted his life through writing rude words on the wall.
You'll get no promotion this side of the ocean,
So cheer up my lads bless 'em all.
Bless 'em all, the long and the short and the tall,
Bless all the sergeants and W. O. ones,
Bless all the corporals and their blinking sons,
'Cause we're saying goodbye to them all, as back to their billets they crawl.
You'll get no promotion this side of the ocean, so cheer up my lads, bless 'em all. 🎵
🎵 Nobody knows what a twerp you have been, so cheer up my lads, bless 'em all. 🎵
