How To Make Wargames Terrain by Nigel Stillman, Games Workshop, 1996. This is a compilation of some of the simplest methods for building the type of terrain seen in 1990s White Dwarf. Stillman uses an effective teaching style, keeping the basic projects very simple then showing variations that can add more complexity. This volume was inspirational for a generation of terrain builders who were able to reproduce the classic green wargaming table with inexpensive supplies -- lots of recycled cardboard and masking tape -- then go on to develop their own ideas. The book's main downside is what I call the "English Heritage site" design style, with ruins surrounded by perfectly manicured lawns and no rubble.
Warhammer and 40K are referenced in the table of contents, but not on the book's covers. I wonder if this is one of the last products GW made for "wargames" instead of for "the Warhammer hobby (TM)."
MS_Paints recently pulled this book off the shelf and built his way through a table full of 90s-inspired projects straight from its pages:

Scatter terrain! I love scatter terrain, it's just nice to dress up a gameboard and make it look more like an actual little world. It's worth getting some extra bases, I'm using 40x20mm mdf bases from warbases, for making these lil bits.

The awakened spiked cactus! This was a fun project, first time I've done an organic concept art and then made a model from it (nice and simple one) It was enjoyable playing with this old concept and giving it a new twist.

"A trio of mecha advance into a small desert town, catching the local military presence off guard. Unbeknownst to them, enemy reinforcements are fast approaching..."

I maaay have found a new Mecha rpg system (The Mecha Hack, for those interested) and I maaay have been falling super hard for it and printing a ton of 6mm scale mechs and vehicles for it.
Somehow I keep forgetting how much I love 6mm scale. It can be detailed as all hell, but it's so small there's no pressure to make sure you get adsolutely everything right. You only do as much as you are comfortable with amd it always feels like a flex. :)

Gorkamorka Minefield

Here's some scatter terrain I've been working on for Gorkamorka (and more likely Necromunda Ash Wastes). A bunch of rusty Ork Mines/Sea Mines that are embedded in the desert floor. I wanted to include a crashed out trukk with dead Digganob as seen in the pictures above, and I also wanted to try out making craters which you can see in one of the other pictures below.

Overall I'm incredibly happy with how this project came out. This was my first time using glue and baking soda to make texture paint but I think it worked really well for the rust!

For the Love of Gnomes
My Dollar Tree had 10 different garden gnome huts that beautifully hit the vibe of my group's December Song of Blades & Heroes game.
So for $12, I've got myself a spritely forest village ripe for raiding. The scale is awesome for Dwarves, Halflings, Gnomes, etc. (sure, these would be one-room structures in real life, but they feel right on the table).
They'll look better if I repaint them someday, but it's awesome when something arrives "table ready" like this when you already have tons of other hobby priorities.
Full disclosure: I photoshopped the "skies" of the first two pics just to have some fun and make the scene a little more immersive. Real background is the brick you see in pics 3-4.

Fences!
Arguably one of the most boring miniatures to show off in a post. But they are done. End to end a little over 2 meters of them. Still at least its another box off this years progress chart as well as being useful in my games.

Scratch built cairn, Ringwraith for scale. Built it to get some background for more rustic undeads and #LotR horrors. Took inspiration from real world tumuli. Tested out long static grass - turns out I could've chosen even longer cut.
