Save the Date: 2024 Total Solar Eclipse
On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will travel through Mexico, cross the United States from Texas to Maine, and exit North America along Canada’s Atlantic coast. A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. The sky will darken as if it were dawn or dusk.
Weather permitting, people throughout most of North and Central America, including all of the contiguous United States, will be able to view at least a partial solar eclipse. A partial solar eclipse is when the Moon only covers part of the Sun. People in Hawaii and parts of Alaska will also experience a partial solar eclipse. Click here to learn more about when and where the solar eclipse will be visible: go.nasa.gov/Eclipse2024Map
Not in the path of the eclipse? Join us online to watch the eclipse with NASA. Set a reminder to watch live: https://go.nasa.gov/3V2CQML

An annular solar eclipse will be visible across North America on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023. The October annular eclipse's infamous "ring of fire" will cross eight U.S. states from Oregon to Texas, according to NASA. If you're not fortunate enough to see it in person, the eclipse will be livestreamed for free so you can enjoy the wonder of the eclipse from the comfort of your own home.  During an annular solar eclipse, the moon appears slightly smaller than the sun. As such, it doesn't block the entire solar disk like it would during a total solar eclipse. Instead, the moon's shadow covers most of the disk, leaving the outer rim, resulting in a beautiful "ring of fire."

Photo from 2017
If you are lucky enough to be in the path of totality, PLEASE go out and enjoy the show!
If you don’t have eclipse glasses just use the pinhole trick. There are online things telling you how to make something, but it doesn’t have to be fancy. You just need something with a small hole or holes (sheet of paper, colander, leaves on the trees, your fingers, etc) and a surface for the light to shine on (paper, sidewalk, shoe, etc) It’s 75% here, so that’s what I’m doing.
It will absolutely be cool…
but
Don’t let all the folks talking about it being some sort of transcendent experience make you feel disappointed if you just go “Cool!” It’s perfectly fine for it to NOT be a life changing experience!
During 2017 I was Googling as I sat alone in a hotel room** and I came across a shocking little bit of trivia: Not too long before I was born a total solar eclipse had passed over my home town!!!!
A TOTAL ECLIPSE! Over my town!
Every single adult I knew growing up would have been around for it. My parents, who were science nuts and made pinhole projectors for partial eclipses, never mentioned it. My teachers in school, who at least passingly taught about eclipse, never mentioned it. Not one single adult ever mentioned it! People traveled to the area to watch it, yet none of the locals even passingly referenced it to us kids.
So, I don’t think it exactly changed their lives. No shaking of their view of the world. No awesome milestone in their lives. Nothing mystical. On with their lives.
And having seen one myself, what did I think?
“Cool!!! Very, very COOOL!!!! Now how do I get through this traffic….”
I haven’t forgotten. It was wonderful. But I’ve had a lot of natural phenomena that awed me more.***
Great if it changes your life, but don’t count on it or think there is something “wrong” with you for not feeling the way the hype says you should. Just have fun!
**My family has inherited land in the mountains, but no place to stay. My brother rented a cabin for his family and Mom, but he didn’t want me there. I spent the days wandering the mountain alone and then went to whichever hotel I had a place in that night. Was that trip the last time I stayed in a hotel/motel?
***Maybe understanding and predicting it makes it less awesome than the “What the heck???” stuff.

writeblr introduction
this is my fifth-hundreth time doing this, but i wanted an easy introduction that i could update without many frills, so here goes.
introducing....me!
online, i go by star! (she/her)
college student majoring in foreign langauges, with a chinese (mandarin) concentration and a linguistics minor
i hope to go into literary translation of some sort, but we'll see how it goes
in my free time, i like to watch asian dramas, listen to music, and read; i also dabble in video editing
i talk about the above and more on my main @astarlightmonbebe, which i also follow from
when it comes to writing, i love reading/writing
character driven stories with lots of complicated relationship dynamics (give me more of we-used-to-be-close, estranged or otherwise multilayered found family/sibling relationships, fated to be but hate it, etc)
magical realism, especially coming-of-age
low or middle fantasy
lore/mythology/religion (love folklore, legend, especially ones that change, grow, and are more real than they seem)
what i'm working on (current as of august 2024)
wip: godhood
naying yue’s father has been missing for three years. after stabbing her bff/lover in the eye and getting expelled from college, she decides to celebrate her twenty first bday by killing herself. however, her plans are derailed when she is attacked by monsters, rescued/kidnapped, and told her father abducted her as a young child, and that her real identity is the heiress to a powerful family who is part of the mysterious Outsider World…
new adult low fantasy inspired by/incorporating wuxia elements
drafting book one right now; will likely be at least three books if i get there
comic sans ppt
other ideas bouncing around
a high school sports wip revolving around a sport called cyclone, where biking meets medieval jousting to create a very metal sport. gil reyes, once a cyclone prodigy and now on limited time, finds himself dumped and kicked out of his cyclone crew. a street tournament with a cash prize and a claim to fame leads to him starting his own crew, recruiting the scholarly sprinter, aadya; high school dropout and underground stunt rider/racer, yama; the duo of sprinter winnie and bruiser jade; a rural girl with brute strength and a boxer’s instincts, elle; and a brilliant time trialist who knows nothing about cyclone, pazu.
paper tigers
status: constantly rotating around in my head on a hot plate
when moonlil acang's father, the warlord of the north, dies in a violent explosion of which the only survivor is a mysterious girl he has apparently brought back from the mountains, moonlil is forced into a position he's never wanted. setting inspired by 1920s china/chinese history. featuring: grave robbery, complicated siblings, mythological elements, and a dose of revolutionary, imperial, and military politics.
the phosphene phenomenon
status: sketching out the details, potentially plotting
three years after witnessing a total solar eclipse and falling into a coma, diyu wakes up to find himself with New Eyes and a ghost attached to him. lalita's been dead for years, but she knows nothing but her own name. tasked by death to help other spirits move on before she, too, can find her afterlife, lalita and diyu have no choice but to team up, along with sunny, the one person diyu has never been able to stand. featuring: a super intense rivalry (swear), self discovery journeys, ghosts and mental illness, agents of death, and so on.
previously on here i’ve successfully completed the first drafts of two wips, fairbone and the metamorphosis of the lost (tmotl), which still occasionally pop up.
i’m not always the most active, especially during the school year, where my focus is on trying to write a few words a day if any at all, but i’m always excited to hear and interact with other’s work!

tagged by @cryptidafter 🫡
tagging: whoever feels like doing this, but also @watertightvines @ratheralark @needsmoreresearch @chaos0pikachu @skalidris @thepurplewombat @evilhasnever
Do you make your bed?
yep! not like super neatly or whatever but it gets remade every morning to prevent the cats from causing problems.
What’s your favorite number?
seven--just like prev! dunno why exactly, i just vibe with it.
What is your job?
i'm an overworked government bureaucrat, which maybe explains why i think jin guangyao should get to murder whomever he wants.
If you could go back to school, would you?
nooooope. i've got my masters and that is more than enough for me. i've actually told my husband that if i start making any serious noises about going back to school, he has my permission to yell at me.
Can you parallel park?
y... yes. in that once i am parked, i am sure that my car is parallel to something, somewhere.
A job you had that would surprise people?
i'm genuinely not sure any of my day jobs are that exciting lol. uhhh i designed and administered sharepoint online websites for a major canadian university for a while and hated every second of it despite making bank while i did it. god i hate sharepoint so much.
Do you think aliens are real?
i think it's way more unlikely that we're totally alone in the universe.
Can you drive a manual car?
nope, never learned how to drive stick shift unfortunately.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
i'm not sure i feel guilty about it exactly but i do enjoy rewatching gilmore girls while very high.
Tattoos?
just the one, which will be a week old as of tomorrow 👀 it's a stylized rendering of the solar eclipse! my husband and the man of honour at our wedding also got matching tattoos, so it's a very sentimental tattoo for me.
Favorite color?
i'm a jewel tones kind of bitch, so deep forest green, burgundy, etc,
Favorite type of music?
i like a little bit of everything tbh but i mostly listen to grunge and bluegrass.
Do you like puzzles?
no 😤 they stress me out lol
Any phobias?
several, and broadcasting what they are on a public platform like this while knowing i have at least two hatefollowers sounds like a very bad idea.
Favorite childhood sport?
horse-riding! i also took dance and played soccer but riding horses was the most fun. also the cheapest since i just went down to our neighbour's farm and rode her horses lol
Do you talk to yourself?
oh yes.
What movies do you adore?
god, okay, this is hard: the LOTR extended editions, the OG star wars trilogy, OG jurassic park, saved!, batman: the dark knight, captain america: the winter soldier, inception, sunshine, 1408, knives out, parasite, leon the professional, anything directed by hayao miyazaki, anything directed by guillermo del toro (except for the shape of water, which i can't watch because of the scene with the cat)--i'm sure i'm forgetting something.
Coffee or tea?
can't start my day without a cup of tea 👍
First thing you wanted to be growing up?
i wanted to be a veterinarian! but i also wanted to be an astronaut just as badly because i figured even aliens probably have pets, and someone has to look after them.

I must say, it's pretty poetic that I've gotten to season 6 of Vampire Diaries right before another solar eclipse happens in America. I certainly didn't plan it, but it does feel like my timing is very appropriate with this one. I do have questions about the accuracy of the eclipse portrayal in the show, though. I mean, a solar eclipse did in fact happen on May 10, 1994, and it was visible across much of the country, so that much is accurate. But I don't think Mystic Falls would've had quite as good of a view as they show it having. For reference, here's a map of the May 1994 eclipse path (credit: timeanddate.com):
Tumblr media
And, if you'll remember, Mystic Falls is like two hours from my old hometown just a stone's throw north of Lynchburg, Virginia, as seen on the locator spell map (this one's all over tumblr, forgive me for not remembering what blog I grabbed it from):
Tumblr media
So if you zoom in on the timeanddate map and pick somewhere closeish to there:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It looks like Mystic Falls would be getting a little over 77% coverage or so. It's also worth noting that the '94 eclipse was an annular eclipse, not a total eclipse like tomorrow's eclipse. That still means that the moon went directly in front of the sun, but it does mean that it was small enough/far enough from earth that you didn't quite get full coverage of the sun (thanks to weather.gov for the nifty graphic):
Tumblr media
So, I'm not positive whether it would've looked quite as dark as was shown in the show:
Tumblr media
Although, I must admit, in this video I found on youtube of the '94 eclipse, (part of me is shocked to find footage from then but I know I shouldn't be like yes they had cameras in the 90s) it actually looks more similar than I expected it to look, but I imagine it was most likely filmed within the path of totality:
youtube
But also, when Kai takes Bonnie to Portland, don't they see the eclipse again there? I couldn't find that clip on youtube just now, but Portland barely had any eclipse--only 42-43% coverage, so it would've been way milder of a visual effect, barely any dimming in the sky noticeable without eclipse glasses.
Tumblr media
The funny thing is, the area where I live is going to be sitting right around 80% coverage tomorrow. I was lucky enough to get to travel to Missouri for the 2017 eclipse to get into the path of totality, but I'm afraid that it hasn't worked out for me to do so this year, which is immensely disappointing to me as an astronomy enjoyer, but I do still plan to go to an eclipse party and I'm going to start saving to try and get to Spain for the next total eclipse in 2026, which is going to be right around my 30th birthday (screaming). Anyways, it isn't great, but here's my best picture from the '17 eclipse:
Tumblr media
I didn't even have a smartphone yet then, because despite it being 2017, I was somewhat of a luddite, so I had the purple flip phone I so stubbornly clung to and a point-and-click Nikon, but I still think this picture is pretty cool for what it is. Here's the zoom in so you can really see that ring of fire (and my shaking hands doubling the image):
Tumblr media
Obviously you can find thousands of better eclipse pictures online, but that one's still special to me because it's mine. Anyways, I'll report back with smart phone pictures from whatever I see of the 80% total eclipse tomorrow to compare and contrast with Mystic Falls's 70% annular eclipse of the 90s, because from what I've heard it's going to be much less impressive than full totality was, but I've yet to watch a partial solar eclipse, so I'll just have to find out. Also, if you happen to have any vampiric loved ones trapped in a magical prison dimension who you need help freeing during the eclipse tomorrow, let me know and I'll see what I can do! ;) Hahaha. Anyways, happy eclipse everyone, and may we all possess sufficient self restraint to avoid eye damage (says the woman who has looked at the sun unprotected so many times and is probably going to go blind because of it some day. I know what I've done lol. Don't be me.)

I mean I could go now and just drive through the night. but ugh. I just. ugh. I can but I can't yk#anyways everybody says that the Vampire Diaries writing quality drops off around here but I'm still loving it so far#it's incredibly frustrating sometimes but like. it knows how to give me The Feels(tm) and so I'll let it jerk me around all it wants#I would personally prolly want to stay in the prison world for at least a little bit to get to enjoy that eclipse from a bunch of angles th#like that's a rad as heck day to get trapped on imho. Thank you for tagging me @narisz !! ❤️❤️❤️
Favourite colour: Besides black, I'm really into deep turquoise right now.
Last song: Blessed Be by Spiritbox 😍
Last movie/TV show: Brooklyn Nine-Nine (Fucking hilarious, though some of the jokes have aged poorly.)
Next on my watch list: Either House of the Dragon or finishing up the last couple seasons of HBO's His Dark Materials.
Last game: These days I watch the hubby play while I knit. Last game he finished was Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Currently on Elden Ring. Last game I myself played was Hogwarts Legacy (I know...I know. Fuck JKR and bring on the hate.)
Sweet/savoury/spicy: EVVVERYTHINGGG. I'm a sucker for a thoughtful sweet/savory blend. Like salted caramel or chocolate cheddar. (Trader Joe's sold that for a while and it was awesome.)
Relationship status: Happily Married and it's complicated :)
Last online search: How Brooklyn Nine-Nine is spelled out.
Current obsession: Still the Silmarillion/the rest of the Legendarium. Currently trudging through LOTR for the first time 😅 and I do intend to finish it! New mini-fixation right now is total solar eclipses; already excitedly planning for the 2045 one!
Greatest flaw: Definitely my overuse of emoji Probably my people-pleasing.

Monday's Solar Eclipse-Witchy Tips
The next Solar Eclipse is happening on Monday April 8th. Many will turn out to watch and even travel hours to see the sun play a bit of hide and seek. I'll be doing a bit of magic, care to join me?
Tumblr media
Here are a couple of tips for the witchy ones out there to help better harness the power and magic that a solar eclipse can bring to your work.
Meditation
Tumblr media
During the time that an eclipse is taking place its great for meditating. Especially for letting go of any negative situations your dealing with. When the sun reemerges all of those undesirable feelings are over and gone, everything is new.
Now if you cant see the actual eclipse that's ok! Just visualize it. I would recommend setting a timer for when the eclipse should be over so that when the timer goes off-Bing- time to imagine the sun beginning to shine.
Side Tip- Being a reader having what I am meditating on written down is very helpful in keeping me focused.
2. Divination
Tumblr media
Be on the look out for important messages. Messages meant for you can be found in a number of ways but are you looking? This is the time witches! Can I tell you a secret? This is totally my shit, I love divination and actually just recently bought a new divination mat for a pendulum I brought in Salem, Ma last October. Maybe Monday will be a good day to break it in what do you guys think?
Also- If you have a question you'd like me to ask, drop it in the comments.
Back to what YOU can do for Mondays main event. If you don't have your own set up. No biggie. Divination is not in everyone's broom closet. Visit your local witchy shop (in person or online) and have a Tarot reading, your palm read or see what else they have to offer!
Because I love divination so much I pulled out one of my favorite magic books - A History Of Magic Witchcraft & The Occult. And it did not fail to give me all the tea. Take a look...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
May you all have a wonderful eclipse event no matter what your getting into just don't look directly into the sun- magic or not.

Mildly annoyed at my body.
Probably venting. Mostly complaining. Some medical talk.
I kinda want to get a second shift job, but I just got a raise and starting this month, I will be making really good money. Like, double minimum wage money. I don't think I'll be finding that wage anywhere else with no college degree and only 5 years of office experience...
I want to put more of my books on the shelves, the ones still boxed in the living room and the basement. Go through the comics I probably have no real attachment to, maybe offer them up somewhere. Put the books I keep thinking about that somehow didn't get their boxes marked "FAVE" and thus weren't put upstairs when I moved. They're in the basement. I KNOW I have more books by my favorite author. I've been wanting to reread the ones I haven't unpacked.
But I just ate. I can't go up and down the stairs, let alone carrying 2+ boxes and unpacking them. Not to mention, some of them are practically buried in others' boxes... I can't exert myself by moving them around, either. I might be able to reach the ones by the shoe rack, but I don't remember. I can't stand up and bend over to look.
For my stomach AND my back reasons. Ever since I had the neurology appointment, during which they twisted me in ways that made my mostly-fine back start hurting at a Level of 5/10 Again, and when I said it started hurting they kept twisting and asked if it still hurt. Yes! Fuck yes, it hurt WORSE!
And it still hasn't entirely calmed down. The pain now is worse than it was before the appointment. Even two weeks later (or is it three?). Even with lidocaine patches and muscle relaxers. They want me to start steroid shots. (And do physical therapy again, but I already spent most of my PTO built up this year on Sisu's vet appointment and my teeth. I need to build up more hours for things in April, a concert road trip and taking the day of the solar eclipse off because I absolutely REFUSE to miss the eclipse, when I live conveniently RIGHT in the path of totality! I can't take 4 hours off work every week because the PT only has appointments during my work schedule.)
I need to do at-home physical therapy exercises more often anyways, but I can't lay down (let alone lay on my side for 10 minutes) after eating, and by the time my stomach's done making me uncomfortably aware of the food I've eaten, I need to go to sleep.
And tomorrow, I want to watch some panels at an online convention and go grocery shopping and clean the pet cages and shower. Maybe sweep my room and do dishes. I'm still debating if I want to wake up at 10am for a panel on something I've often wondered about (thanks in large part to the name of a roller coaster at Cedar Point), but that will sacrifice about 4 hours of sleep.
Precious sleep. Which is ALWAYS a struggle working first shift. When I worked 3pm to 11pm, I slept for 9 hours every night, no problem. (I was constantly exhausted for Other reasons, but sleep wasn't the problem.) But working first shift? I have to fight my body tooth, nail, and pharmaceuticals to get it asleep before 11pm. Half the time it doesn't happen. The meds make me sleepy, but won't KEEP me asleep.
I take melatonin, L-theanine, herbal supplements (valerian and lemon balm and passionflower and lavender), magnesium citrate, and an anti-depressant and muscle relaxer, all in the desperate hopes that I MIGHT be able to sleep for 8 hours a night. (I struggle with delayed circadian disorder. It's not insomnia, because I can easily fall asleep and stay asleep if it's within my body's natural circadian rhythm. Sleeping about 1-3am, waking about 10:am to noon.)
It isn't the ADHD meds that keep me awake because, once again, due to my stomach being a Little Bitch^tm, I can only take them when I'm having Really Good Days with my stomach. Which is, at most, about 1 in 5 days. It's rare that I CAN take them 2x a week. Let alone every day.
At the core of it, if I didn't work 40 hours a week and didn't have to ride a bus for an hour each way to and from work and didn't have to wake up at 7am every day, I'd have more time and more sleep to endure and work around my stomach's issue with Being Active After Eating, and work around Needing to Sleep or I feel Dead On My Feet.
....though with the raise, maybe I'll be able to get my temps again, and once I get my license, have the budget to start paying for gas and parking downtown...? I figure that's another $200/month, at least, but even if I break even with what my cashflow is NOW, I'd get about 80 minutes of my life back every day. That actually sounds really nice...
But currently, as it stands, my schedule is perpetually packed and my body is perpetually fighting me on doing Anything Ever. =_= Not to mention, the ADHD making it really hard to overcome that executive dysfunction...
It's just frustrating, wanting to do So Much but needing 2 weeks to recover my social battery after being at a wedding for 5 hours. I can't catch up on sleep when my duplex neighbors are massive inconsiderate assholes who blast music every Saturday morning. I want to wake up a little early to hear a really interesting topic discussion tomorrow, but it comes at the cost of spending the entire next week exhausted from sleep deprivation.
Where's the Quality of Life when the amount of life you can live is so small, you can't fit a lot of Doing Things in it anyways?
Worst of all, I've been too exhausted to write, whether that's roleplaying or fic. I'm lucky if I can come up with 5 words for my Pokemon character to tag on a blog post. I can't come up with New Things Happening very often. I really desperately want to continue some Old RPs with Dove, but my brain is fried mush. It's burnt on the outside and just a gooey mess on the inside. I can't jog it enough to Imagine New Things.
I'm not exactly depressive. I'm having fun at the convention this weekend! I'm glad for the 5 words I can scrouge up on the Pokemon RP blog! I'm eating good food and stealing every minute of personal time I can get! I'm watching Teen Titans and ATLA with my roommates once a week! I only have minor complaints with my actual job duties! It's not All bad.
I'm just frustrated that working 40 hours a week is so fucking much to work around that it's a chore all its own to try fitting my life around it without sacrificing sleep health.
Fuck capitalism.

A SERIOUS PSA REGARDING THE APRIL 20TH SOLAR ECLIPSE
Howdy! On April 20th, there will be a TOTAL eclipse worldwide! As cool as it may seem the risks of looking at the eclipse directly WITHOUT protection are extremely high so here is some information and tips to stay safe! But first of all, what are the actual consequences to exposing your eyes to a total eclipse?
The consequences are retinal burns, also known as “eclipse blindness” or solar retinopathy. The symptoms include the loss of central vision, distorted vision or altered colour vision, and can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days for symptoms to begin to show. There’s a chance it would only be temporary, but there’s also an equal chance of it being permanent, so… I wouldn’t be taking that chance if I were you.
1. Don’t look at the sun. Seriously.
It’s easier said than done, honestly. There are plenty of moments where you could accidentally glance at the sun, or when your eyes can be in direct sunlight, such as opening blinds or windows, driving, and just being outside in general is EXTREMELY risky. This also leads onto point 2;
2. Phone cameras, sunglasses, binoculars, and other types of unfiltered glasses will NOT protect your eyes.
Trust me, the temptation to whip out your phone camera and try to watch the eclipse through there is strong. But other then potentially damaging your phone camera, and the lens not being able to get a good picture of the eclipse at all, you could accidentally fry your eyeballs, so your best bet is watching it online or getting proper eclipse viewing glasses. Personally I’d rather just close my curtains, maybe watch it online and just wait the eclipse out, but if you really want to see the eclipse, proceed with caution and follow the rules below when choosing the safest eclipse viewing glasses.
3. How to choose the safest eclipse viewing glasses.
Find a trusted and official seller. So that’s a ‘no’ on the 2 dollar store glasses…
Make sure they meet general safety requirements and are manufactured to the ISO 12312-2 standard. Check around for labelling and make sure you’re buying them from a reputable source.
Wear your solar eclipse glasses at ALL TIMES.
Another note, solar eclipse glasses can get damaged. So before use, make sure the lenses aren’t scratched or torn, because if they are, they’re not safe to use.
Conclusion
That’s about it for the PSA. Make sure to stay safe, and if you or anybody you know have been exposed to the solar eclipse light and are experiencing any of the symptoms listed take them to a healthcare facility to get it checked out. Seriously, loss of vision is horrifying and you need to take preventative steps to avoid it.
Stay safe everyone, and happy birthday to anyone who happens to have a birthday at the time they’re reading this!

On Monday, April 8, a total solar eclipse will be visible through northern Mexico, parts of 15 U.S. states and southeastern Canada.  It will be one of the most-watched eclipses ever with over 32 million people living within the path of totality — a 115-mile (185-kilometer) wide route through Northern America where the moon will cover 100% of the sun's disk.

Ben Shapiro's eclipse panic
Tumblr media
Ben Shapiro, pagan conspiracy finder (source: Ben Shapiro at Daily Wire)
If there's one thing that Ben Shapiro is good at, it's watching TV and then promptly getting mad at what he sees. Is he particularly good at analyzing what he's seeing? Well no. But he is great at yelling about it on his podcast.
So, Ben saw a person on the View say something stupid about the eclipse and has now drawn the conclusion that environmentalism is a modern form of paganism. Lets get into it.
00:00, Ben Shapiro: "Well, yesterday was a pagan day in America. There was a giant solar eclipse, obviously, that moved all across the United States over the course of the day and it was pretty fascinating to see the responses. The reason that I say that it was a Pagan day in America is because there are a couple different ways that you could view something like a solar eclipse. So, if you were a normal person you'd view the solar eclipse as a wonderful example of science at work. An incredible example of the workings of the universe in which the sun is eclipsed totally by the moon and it has to do obviously with the rotations of the universe and the solar system -- all the rest of it."
Ok, so Ben's really hyped up about the Eclipse because he thinks that the way the general public reacted indicates that there's a form of environmental paganism sweeping the nation. Surely a large claim like this would have a lot of evidence backing it up....right?
00:40, Ben Shapiro: "Traditionally, traditional religions had always suggested, before they knew any of the science, that things like solar eclipses, which obviously appeared incredibly rarely and were very scary to people, they had suggested that that was celestial movings in response to human sin."
Yeah, most of the insane eclipse conspiracy theories that I've seen online have been coming from the right, many of them saying that the eclipse is the sign of the biblical end times. For example, Jack Posobiec declared that the solar eclipse "foretells the coming of the great leader" and Alex Jones declared that the eclipse would be used to "usher in the coming of the New World Order". All of the apocalyptic screeching about the Eclipse is coming from Bens side.
01:16, Ben Shapiro: "Then there's the Pagan view. The Pagan view is that you sin against nature and then the Gods smack you and that is the view that apparently has been taken by a wide variety of people across the United States. The most obvious of whom is the signal (?) unintelligent person Sunny Hostin on the View."
Finally, Ben's gotten to what he wants to talk about. So, this story is about something that a co-host on the View named Sunny Hostin said. She tried to tie the Eclipse to climate change and was immediately shut down by her co-hosts. Ok, so a celebrity said something stupid and was immediately shut down for it, not a big deal right? Well, according to Ben it is because....paganism I guess.
Also, notice how Ben said "a wide variety of people". It was one person and she was immediately fact-checked for it, calm down Ben. This is like if I said that the entire right thinks that wet pussy is a medical condition because of the stuff that Bens said in the past.
01:45, Ben Shapiro: "Now, it may be that Sunny Hostin just doesn't know literally anything about science or it may be that you are supposed to, in Pagan circles, blame everything on mans sin against nature."
Only Ben Shapiro could dig up a pagan conspiracy in the show that your dentist puts on as background noise. Ben plays the clip from the View and then it's time for more pagan talk.
03:07, Ben Shapiro: "But there is something to what Sunny Hostin is saying and that is that if you live in this Pagan world where the world takes its revenge on you for sinning against the climate and you must pay homage to the climate - you don't have to try and solve a problem, it's not a real world problem that the climate is changing overtime and that maybe you adapt to that as human beings or you try to mitigate particular activities, instead it is a sin against the climate."
I don't know what on earth Ben is talking about here. Absolutely nobody is worshipping the climate and pretty much everybody is looking for practical solutions. Ben doesn't get to talk about "oh, we should be looking for practical solutions to climate change" because he's been opposed to every single one of them.
I'm also waiting for another example of someone else saying that the solar eclipse was caused by climate change. After all, a wide variety of people apparently believe this apparently so surely Ben has examples of other people making this claim. Unless he was making a sweeping generalization in order to underscore his weird-ass point about paganism.
03:30, Ben Shapiro: "And you see, sort of, this additional move towards paganism across the spectrum. It's really really weird, it's a weird thing that we're seeing."
He never really elaborates on this beyond "Well, everything that I don't like is Pagan".
03:58, Ben Shapiro: "It is very funny how everyone's mentality changes with regard to the eclipse. Like, none of us ever think about looking at the sun because you just instinctively don't look at the sun because, you know, don't look at the sun. When it comes to the eclipse we all become idiots."
Golly Ben, I wonder why someone would be more inclined to look at the sun during a solar eclipse. It's not like it's a rare astronomical event or something.
04:12, Ben Shapiro: "NASA didn't just have on scientists to discuss the eclipse. Again, it's NASA, OK. You're talking about a government funded space agency. And they decided that they were going to bring on an indigenous scientist named doctor David Begay to talk about the solar eclipse. And this is a weird thing, ok? It's just weird."
I looked to see if anyone else in the conservative griftosphere was pissed off about this....nope, just Ben. NASA did a short interview with an indigenous scientist, who cares? All that is happening here is a unique perspective being provided. It doesn't hurt anyone and occupied a short amount of time on the broadcast.
So, Ben's proof that America is goin' pagan is someone on the View saying something stupid and NASA interviewing an indigenous scientist. Neither of these stories are related outside of both directionally being about the eclipse, neither of the people that Ben's mad at are climatologists, and none of this is even pagan!
There's an ad break and Ben comes back still pissed off about this brief interview that NASA conducted.
07:16, Ben Shapiro: "I love that NASA has on this Indigenous 'scientist' (his air quotes, not mine). Kay, what he's not talking about is science, it is religion of one sort or another."
And that's why he wasn't running the show and just got a brief interview to provide an interesting and oft unheard perspective on the eclipse.
08:33, Ben Shapiro: "And it does tie into something that has a moral underpinning. And that moral underpinning is that we are supposed to take as wrote the idea that there are these sorts of sacrifices we make to the pagan universe and then we backfill the rationale for them."
Sacrifices? What?! Does Ben Shapiro yell "I WON'T MAKE SACRIFICES TO YOUR PAGAN GOD!!!!" when he is denied a plastic fork at McDonald's?
You know what I think of when I think of pagan sacrifice? Using a paper straw at McDonald's.
Michael Knowles:
Tumblr media
Apparently this story about the View was oh so important that absolutely everybody at the Daily Wire had to be drafted on board to cover it. Somebody saying something stupid on the View is a highly important all hands on deck kind of issue and the Daily Wire is here to squeeze as many clicks out of it as possible. So, continuing to prove my hypothesis that he is a failed clone that was created with the combined DNA of Ben Shapiro and Matt Walsh, Michael Knowles leaped onto this story as well.
Daily Wire third-banana (maybe secondary banana since Candace Owens is gone now) Michael Knowles is the absolute last person should be talking about dumb takes on the eclipse since he recently hosted a pastor on his show who declared that the eclipse was a sign of the end times. One of the tags on this video is literally "rapture", he's ironically enough exactly the kind of person that Ben was talking about earlier and he works directly for Ben.
Tumblr media
If you think that the Eclipse is a sign of the rapture, you have absolutely zero right to ever criticize anyone of a take on the eclipse.
00:00, Michael Knowles: "While the internet raged with competing theories over yesterdays Eclipse. Was it a direct sign of the worlds imminent end? Was it a warning about some red heifers in the holy land? Was it something else?"
Yeah, one of those people was you Michael. Calm down.
00:17, Michael Knowles: "While all that idle chatter was going on, The Views Sunny Hostin came up with the obvious answer; the eclipse was caused by climate change."
Quick question, do people outside of conservatives looking for more content actually watch the View? The only places I've seen it are at the doctors office and on Dave Rubin/Ben Shapiro/Michael Knowles/Matt Walsh/Charlie Kirk type shows. The View, Rachel Maddow, and most commercials probably have a 75% conservative grifter viewership base.
Michael plays the clip and then immediately discredits himself.
01:29, Michael Knowles: "Well, hold on, Whoopi was actually being the voice of reason until right at the very end when she said 'God does not give you warning'. He does, he does. He gave a warning to Noah for instance, with the Ark."
"Oh yeah, I don't think the eclipse was caused by climate change, that's crazy. Now let me give you my equally insane theory about the Eclipse being a literal warning from God."
Conclusion:
When I started this blog I used to joke that Ben Shapiro is the most rational out of everybody that I cover on this blog. The last two episodes of his that I've covered have proven that boy was I incorrect.
Just to recap, the last two Ben episodes were "There's an anti-white conspiracy hidden in an AI image generator" and now "Sunny Hostin said something on The View and that proves that environmentalism is a pagan movement". Isn't this the guy who's all about "facts and logic"?
Also, Michael Knowles is a massive idiot but we aren't exactly treading on new ground with that. Cheers and I'll see you in the next one.

TGIWednesday: World Anxiety
Tumblr media
TGIWednesday News
Total solar eclipse, earthquakes, Mercury Retrograde, bizarro weather and even a comet named after the Devil, not to mention wars and political and financial unrest all roaming around on the movie set of Earth this week.  Feels more like we're in a simulated cataclysm video game than living on a planet.  This whole month we're focused on reducing anxiety, stress and tension. There's no doubt the planet is feeling all this mess right now as well.  What to do? As the Buddha would say, "Be an observer of the play, not a participant." In other words, it's ok to hear about or see it, but do your best to NOT become caught up in it and obsessing over it.  Some would say, do something as simple as "sending love" and that will go a long way. "What fun things are we going to do now?" my youngest son used to say.  How about lets do some calming things? a walk in nature, a visit to the beach or mountain, practice Yoga, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, read a good book, or meditate.  Do what calms you and make every effort to tune out the overkill or "fear porn" as someone once called it.  Find your happy place and visit there often!

"I just had an experience that reminded me of your Golden Key process. I am walking to the auto repair shop to get my car, and a golden key on the dirt caught my attention. A couple of strides later, I saw a break in the fence line. I kept walking, and heard a whisper to go look and see if there is a number on it. I did—There was! It was the number 55. I thought that was pretty cool, kept walking, and saw the next street was 55th West. "Of course," I laugh,ed to myself. I arrived at the shop, paid for the work that was about $100 less than the estimate, took my keys and started the car. The temperature was 55 degrees, and the mileage was 115540. I thought you might enjoy hearing about the experience, which was when I noticed your email address ends with the number 55! I love these little winks and nods from Spirit. Thank you, always, for the prayer work you do, and for being the positive force you are." Sincerely, Nichole
