If baby moana can do THAT

How old is she her?! 10 months old at best?! I'll be nice and she's a year old but that takes real intelligence for someone so young. If she can do that, I'm sure she can weave just about anything she puts her mind to. And what if weaving was one thing Mirabel didn't know how to do/struggle with, and Moana made it her MISSION to teach her. Y'know, just as a friend...heh...nothing more.

But back to the Daycare au, I agree that it should be in a more modern setting. I also agree that it should be for the summer but mostly weekends.

Both teens are the most FAVORITE daycare attendants/babysitters of the kids (don't tell the other sitters that).

The first time the older attendants saw Mirabel they thought she had at least two cups of coffee, but Camilo was like- "No, that's just who she is"

The bags are a little but not enough to be a nuisance.

Both are fluent in ASL and SSL. Mirabel can speak basic Japanese and Camilo can speak basic French.

I don't know a lot of kids, but I've read somewhere that the best way to speak to a kid is by crouching down to their or sitting on your knees. Doing that shows you see the kid as a person and not someone to just talk down to or order around.

I can see Mirabel and Camilo doing this, especially when they see the kid having a hard time emotionally.

Both know rowdy kids are rowdy for a reason. The first step is to try to get them to calm down so the kid can explain why they are upset. 9 out of 10 times it works.

Other times the best solution is to get a little stern, not too much to scare the heck out of them, but to show them who's boss a little bit. If nothing is wrong with and the kid is just being a jerk they go to the unhappy corner.

Camilo HATES discipling the kids with a passion. Even if the punishments are very light it still hurts them. Seeing their little pouts is cute but still makes him sad.

The only kind of punishment that a bad kid will get is going to sleep early (which we all know kids can't stand) or going in the unhappy corner.

I think the most kids they should handle should be about 15 at a time, even that's a bit much.

Mirabel more than likely made stuffed animals/mochilas for kids that are frequent at the daycare. Why wouldn't she?

Both don't tolerate Karen's/disrespectful parents. It takes restraint not to tackle those people to the ground. And I have a feeling child service has been called more than once. These two don't play when it comes to kids.

These two come home covered in glitter, stickers, and marker drawings all over their clothes. Thankfully all three of those things are removable/washable.

I'll think I'll draw their uniforms; They'll have a teacher/kid core vibe to them. Mature but fun.

Also, I didn't know Mirabel's bag was called a mochila, so thanks for that.

i only speak english and spanish, so im very sorry if the arabic is inaccurate. i wanted to try something different that wasn't french or italian. also, because im half mexican and half puerto rican, my spanish is different. words are different compared to those who are from South America or Central America

Anyone who didn't understand your relationship would think you and your boyfriend were speaking gibberish.

However, you both knew bickering in your native tongues was very much normal, but it was mostly to yourselves since you didn't know Spanish and he didn't know Arabic. Today was different as you both were bickering about the damn English language. As easy as people made it seem, it was damn well difficult. How the heck was there words that sounded the same, but were both spelled differently and meant different things?

"Ine fakt la moana leh." (It just makes no sense.)

"No sé cómo la gente puede hablar en esa maldita idioma sin confundirse, de verdad." (I don't know how people can speak in that damn language without confusing themselves, honestly.)

"Lediham al-jaraa lekhbary baltehadth ballga al-inglizia?" (They have the audacity to tell me to speak English?)

Honestly, you both were confused as to how you managed to be in a relationship for a few months without picking up some of each others language. Well, Jake only understood very little thanks to Steven and even Marc, thanks to his time as a mercenary. However, it still wasn't enough, but if he was being honest, he wanted to learn more about your language. You only ever picked up on what he meant when he called you "amor" since that's his go-to nickname for you. "Teach me?" You raised an eyebrow at him. "Teach you what?" He smiled. "Árabe."

"You sure?" He nodded and you smiled. "I can do it I think. You just have to be good listener." He grinned. "Well, I call you kalabi which is 'my heart.'"

"So like 'mi corazón' for me?" You tilted your head. "That was what you mean?" He chuckled. "Yes, amor." You felt your cheeks heat up. It always got to you when he called you that. You assumed it was because it was in his native tongue and not in English as you were normally used to. "We say habibi." He held your hand. "Can you teach me to say te amo?" You raised an eyebrow, until you realized what he said. "Anna asada ahbak." (I love you too.)

IWTV S2 - Pix11 clip makes me so sad for Claudia

As a New Yorker, I caught second-hand embarrassment watching the latest clip promoting Game of Thrones Ann [sic] Rice's Interview with a [sic] Vampire. 😭 But Jacob did his thing, as usual! 👏

Anyways, the clip itself was VERY interesting, from what I could tell with the audio + accents + French + lack of subtitles.

Sweet precious baby Louis, always the optimist in denial that things were getting better, not progressively worse. Louis of all people should know a thing or two about scar-tissue: some wounds only heal on the surface, but the trauma & PTSD can last forever.

I love how while Louis' waxing poetic about them "healing," Claudia's counting change (a la Bricktop 2.0--Louis "letting a woman count his money"); visibly holding back her frustration with their reality.

They had to pickpocket!? 😨 Louis! Don't stash Lestat's useless arse in a dump before making sure the alimony & child support checks get cleared! Like, I can understand them losing all their NOLA luggage while running from bombs & revenants in WWII Europe, but what happened to all Les' Parisian bank accounts!? You know how LOADED that guy is?! Louis, you really let your man take care of all the finances like that!? 💀

Now here's where the clip lost me; I couldn't understand a word he was saying in French--same, Claudia. 😅

But this bit right here really gets to the heart of the matter: "Truth and reconciliation;" them looking for the truth about vampiric origins & history (and the truth about Lestat's past).

Then we get this remark from Claudia:

I couldn't tell if this meant that A) Claudia was correcting Louis' French (Truth versus Trust, and her going "What?" cuz he got the translation wrong); or if B) Louis was correcting hers (her going "What?" cuz she still doesn't know any French). And if so, that got me wondering--Claudia lived with Loustat for 20+ years--how could she NOT know any French by then? 🤨

Like, I don't mean just through casual exposure/immersion; I mean cuz we learn in TVL that vampires are (preter)natural mimics. Lestat never learned how to play violin or even how to read or speak English. He picked it all up passively with the Dark Gift; a vampire who (barely) passed as human by mimicking them.

Which makes me NERVOUS for Claudia, if her powers are so dang low that she doesn't speak French by now. 😰

As for Louis, I had to laugh here; him calling French the "mother-tongue." Like, book!Louis was the same way about going to Paris--he wasn't born in America; he was a settler/colonist from France who got rich off of his Louisiana purchases in slave labor & plantations. Going to Paris really was going back to the motherland for him, and Louis was APPALLED when the Theatre mocked him for his French having an accent.

But French is clearly not AMC!Louis' native language (the DPDLs spoke English at home, NOT French--not even when Monsieur Bouillabaisse de Lioncourt came to dinner). And we also know from the OG pilot script that Louis knew (at least some) Haitian Creole, too, when he'd chat with Oncle Vervain Mayfair (GOD I wish they'd kept all that in!). French is more what bougie Creoles would speak to be cultured & educated & show off; not to converse with regularly.

If anything, French is more Louis & Claudia's father-tongue; from Lou's French White great-great grandfather; to the MIA Papa DPDL we never see; to Claudia's biological father "whose daddy gave her away to a mean old auntie" (and who left her for dead to die of PLAGUE in the books); to Absentee Father/Maker of the Year Lestat himself. What's more, French is the language of ANGER, VIOLENCE & verbal ABUSE in the de Lioncourt household/family/coven--Loustat only ever spoke it when arguing around/about Claudia.

So to have Louis talking in French to Claudia about mother-tongues is just hysterical, like boyyyyy if you don't stop--get Lestat's thumb out of your mouth for ONCE. 🤣

Vin really is very intimidating for the naked eye and I find it very funny how every one who reads him is like "he's a pookie bear" which yeah HE IS!! But also everything you said.

I like to think the teenagers he teaches actually do see his more intimidating side and they're also not easily impressed, hence why they're pretty cold to him. Children get all of his softy side, so they don't realize.

(it doesn't help that Sophia is very much a "my brother is LAME" teenager and queen of the mean girls)

I mean if you wanna make them a thing, I say you do you! You can find a way to make it work, there's too much crossover for them to not be important in each other's lives. For better for worse.

But huh! I guess... it depends how you want to define lovers? I mean, them having angsty nasty sex I can certainly see. Them being soft and tender and the (willing) emotional vulnerability? In the 1400s? Personally... I can't see it, or at least, not if you intend to keep it close to canon.

When they were small, i.e. pre Norman conquest, they were close for sure, but England didn't really matter to France's immediate neighbours and concerns (going through his own unification and the after effects of that split into East and West of Charlemagne's lands and, as well respected the Anglo-Saxons were for somehow being rich af and having a notable royal line... they're still across the water and isolated).

Once the Normans come, their relationship breaks and doesn't recover until the Tudors (sort of... it's really up and down in the 1500s), thereafter it continues undulating up and down until the end of the 17th century, then it's just down again until the 1830s. Then, it steadily rises until what it is today, with the occasional slippage.

At least, that is how I would map Anglo-French relations over a thousand years.

FrUK isn’t my favourite historical Hetalia pairing for either character - that goes to Toni and Francis (because there is your on and off again romantic rivals my god) and then Gabe and Arthur for anything pre 19th century. 19th yes FrUK wins (because what a turn around in relations from the start to the end of the century) and then yes, Ludwig and Francis and then Alfred and Arthur for 20th century. (Ludwig and Feli doing their slow burn nonsense in the background the entire time mind you). Francis' attention has always been more drawn to the continent. Not Arthur. Arthur is loathe to think of the mainland.

There's smatterings of DenEng and BelEng in there for Arthur and of course ScotFra on the other side but those are the main relationships. For me. Personally.

I think the two of them have long, long stints where their egos cannot stand the other, and Francis has very good reason to loathe Arthur, just as Arthur could see Francis as being the source of many of his own woes... 'Our dearest enemies' and all that. We've roughly fought 40 wars against each other. France won more than half of them quite comfortably.

I also think it's worth mentioning that France was a major power in Europe from like the 9th century. I wouldn't argue the same for England really until... oh God. I don't know. At least six hundred years later. France was always self sufficient in a way England wasn't. France had a larger population a better climate etc etc... England for a long time is a pain in France's arse, but he is not the most pressing concern for most of it. When England got to grips with banking by copying the Dutch, having a better political and legal system (thank you Napoleon for fixing that I suppose...) however, then things got more equal.

Arthur's greed is what gets Francis' attention, and not in like a good way. I think that is a fascinating dynamic, as is the fact that genuine affection can be born from them being such horrors to each other (and those unfortunate to be caught in their orbit).

On another note, I think England likes France more than they like us though. Personally speaking. I think Brits admire far the French more than vice versa. We're always going to be lesser than, to them. For one reason or another. We are too prone to cutting off our nose to spite our face, and they derive too much joy from the spectacle.

1. are you named after anyone? short answer, no. long answer, I'm named after a goddess, but it wasn't with the goddess in mind that I was named, it just sort of ended up that way. and I chose aleksandar because of the protagonist of a book.

2. when was the last time you cried? ok this one was funny. I was watching one of the tsn(?) promo vids they did for the pwhl. there was a girl, I don't even know who she is, but I had the most intense thought like "WHY AM I SO OBSESSED WITH HER" and I was TEARING UP!!!! so the tl;dr is that I am a lesbian and I like girls

3. do you have kids? no but I think about it a fair amount like... that's definitely not something that is possible for me but I love kids!!!

4. what sports have you played/do you play? as a kid I did a bit of soccer, ballet, contemporary dance and nothing really stuck... then in high school I discovered endurance running and it actually Changed My Life. then I got an injury before running my first 10k. which was a shame. and now I've not really picked it up again, but I do freestyle wrestling!! which is a TON OF FUN & I hope to keep at it for a long time

(I do still find soccer fun to this day I'm just terribly unskilled at it and sometimes get the urge to join 12 year olds playing it in the park)

Um. math was fun honestly? did a bit of html & js in college before dropping out, loved it also,.

15. dream job? so re: question 3 & question 4. my dream job would be to coach kids at wrestling, honestly. I love teaching & I love kids but I won't be going back to school to become a teacher, but being able to teach a sport would be, I think, the most fun I could have in a job... as of right now my current job plan is to go become what is essentially a handyman. it pays and I would like doing it!

No, although my middle name is a family name.

2. When was the last time you cried?

I think a few weeks ago? I watched "Everything, Everywhere, All at Once" and KJBSDFKBJD. Like that movie is such a fun mix of WTF is even going on craziness and contemplating the point of existence and exploring complicated family feelings and the end is weirdly heartwarming--particularly the interactions between the mother and daughter, which is what really got me. And I was watching with one of my best friends and like right after the movie ended he was like "if we were rocks you'd be the googly eyes"--which makes no sense if you haven't seen the movie but that made me cry again because kajdfbksjbf it was so oddly sweet. (Though that was a mixture of hysterical laughter and crying ajsdjfsvjhv in a good way though!)

3. Do you have kids?

nope. maybe one day if i ever get my life together LOL

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

idk if it's a lot?? though i'm probably single-handedly responsible for teaching my brother sarcasm (he's 7 years younger than me so when he was learning would have been right as i was entering those peak sarcasm years LOL)

sarcasm is still deeply engrained in me though, and i nowadays when i use it i definitely pay more attention to how people react to it (ie whether they picked up on it) because i tend to deliver it in a very matter-of-fact voice. like, one of my favourite stupid sarcastic comments to make is whenever something weird weather-wise happens i'll be "but thank god climate change is fake, right?" and KJABFDKSJBD i've gotten some WEIRD LOOKS saying that one around ppl who don't know me that well and then i have to explain myself 😭

5. What sports do you play/have played?

i used to figure skate!! my mom was a coach when i was growing up, so i would joke that i lived part-time at the ice rink. it was kind of inevitable 😂. but i was never good at the jumps. i prefered ice dance or synchronized skating (think synchronized swimming but on the ice)

and i also used to play hockey!? very different environment LOL and my hockey teammates would sometimes tease me for showing up to a game in a dress after skating practice on days i had both but it was all in good fun

now...now i really SHOULD do something kajsdkbfsj

happy endings. scary movies don't really freak me out but i guess i just find them sort of...low-reward? i'm not a movie person to begin with because it's hard for me to get invested in the characters in such a short amount of time. with horror movies that's even harder because they're all about shock value instead of getting to know the characters

i am very very good at puns. does that count? 😂

when i have energy/motivation i really enjoy cooking (or baking, but with baking i have to actually measure ingredients and with cooking i just sort of go with the flow). my new apartment is going to have space for a dishwasher--which really is the most exciting thing in my life right now--so i'm hoping that motivates me to cook more!!

12. Do you have pets?

yes!!! i have a ginger cat and her name is Curie (namesake Marie Curie because i'm a proud little nerd like that). I love her she's so stupid and has tried to eat plastic TOO MANY TIMES but every morning and night she will curl up on my chest when i'm in bed and she's just a precious bean

5'5.5 (166cm). but i would have been taller if my spine had known how to grow straight 😔

14. Favorite subject in school?

science!! i had the same science teacher in high school from grades 8-10 (aka the only teacher in the french immersion department who was really qualified to teach it 😂) and i ADORED HER. from day one i was hooked--like she even made syllabus day fun. so i owe my love of science in part to her, really.

in university i realized i liked chemistry best amongst the sciences, so that was my major. and my favourite class i ever took was intro to quantum chemistry (which is really just quantum physics but the math was geared more towards what us chemistry students were familiar with)

15. Dream job?

okay, avoiding the typical "i do not dream of labour" answer...i really don't know. which is a problem. like i genuinely have no idea what i could do long-term that would actually make me happy and i just hope i figure it out at some point akjsdkfsjbd ... I feel like I was not supposed to leave paragraph responses for some of these but akjfkdsjbgd i can admit i like to talk about myself, okay? Anyways! ive never left America, so no. im sorry, i wish i was more connected to it a lot of the time but it just feels too late for that to me.

he never taught me his language either (Tiv) though he did speak it when he was around the house. but he wasnt around a lot. when i asked him why he didnt try to teach us he just shrugged like it wasn't a priority. he started staying in nigeria for most of the year only coming back for a few months every now and then so i probably wouldnt have picked it up even if he HAD tried.

I've never even called myself Nigerian, not because I don't want to be but because of the embarrassment of having to explain that yeah im Nigerian but... not really Nigerian. I wouldn't want to disappoint any REAL Nigerians by basically being raised as a white American kid and knowing nothing about Nigeria.

i've only ever had pounded yam and okra i think, it wasnt bad but it also apparently wasnt made properly. my mom would make it and my dad would be like "this isnt even real pounded yam what the hell is this" and then nothing would change the next time around haha. so i dont think i can say ive ever eaten Nigerian food, sorry. my oldest sister has tho, when she went to visit him. i hate spices though, they hurt too much, so i doubt I'd enjoy it. which i feel kinda bad about. but ive got a lot of issues about food, and being forced to eat food, so. yeah.

im not very caught up on the political situation over there, but from what my dads told me its not good. my dad is mostly interested in the education system though, its like his life's work and all he's ever wanted to was to be put in charge of it and get kids educated so they have opportunities like he did or something. idk. he thinks education is the key to making Nigeria better and i dont exactly disagree with his life mission but hey, I don't live there. what do i know.

he apparently helped get the current president elected in hopes that he'd be good, but it doesnt appear things are going well. Every time he'd come home when I was younger though, that was the main thing he talked about. Getting his guy elected.

This gonna be a sort of rant/vent but I'm always confused as to how I'm supposed to describe myself in terms of race/ethnicity/nationality 😭

My dad is French, and my mom is Moroccan. So, the easiest thing would be to say that I am french and Moroccan, right? But like, I don't feel like I am both. I don't feel as connected to Morocco as I feel connected to France. And it's not just about the fact that I was born and grew up in France. Most people I know who are like half French half North African do have a link to their North African half, they speak Arabic and are Muslims (OR know a lot about Islam). If I present myself as part Moroccan, people will assume I can speak Arabic and am probably Muslim. And it's not something necessarily bad, I'd assume that too if someone told me they were (part) Moroccan.

But the thing is I don't speak Arabic and I am not Muslim. And I only have a very vague grasp on Moroccan culture. So how can I present myself as Moroccan too when I just have a vague sense of familiarity with it? Sometimes I'd rather not present myself as Moroccan, because apart from blood relations, I am basically not Moroccan. Doesn't mean I can't mention it (I have on this blog), but only mentioning my French half feels more appropriate because I do feel French.

And online, I can "hide" this. I can just not mention my Moroccan half if the topic doesn't need me to. I can't do that in real life. I very obviously look at least part Arab. So people assume right off the bat that I am mixed French and North African (my very French name + my appearance). And it's always awkward for me, especially when other North African ask, to explain that, no I am not Muslim, and no I don't speak Arabic.

And there's a part of me that feels ashamed. I am ashamed because I can't seem to feel that connected to my Moroccan side. I am ashamed of not mentioning it when I'm presenting myself. My mom always tells me that I shouldn't forget that I am also Moroccan. And yeah, duh. Obviously, I am Moroccan, too. I can see it. I am, but at the same time, I am not. I am in terms of origin, but not, let's say, in my "heart." I do have a bias towards Morocco. But that's it. I do have a sense of familiarity with the culture, the language, and the geography, but that's it. I don't truly feel Moroccan, even next to other half Moroccans in France.

I feel like I'm betraying my mom and my grandma. They used to teach me some words in Arabic. But they'd only teach me a few words when I'd be on holiday there. My mom never spoke to me in Arabic, and it's not like my dad would have been opposed to it. He also seemed interested in learning a bit of it. Then, at around 10, I started to "block." I didn't want to learn it anymore, like I was ashamed. I still don't exactly understand why, but I didn't seem to have any motivation to learn it. There was this attention I got when I'd say even one word in Arabic, and I didn't like it. It became increasingly obvious to me that I had no motivation to learn it, but that my mom wanted me to. And now I feel so awkward going to Morocco and having to have someone either switch to French to communicate with me or have someone translate for me.

But I can't just proudly say, "I'm also moroccan!" either. It doesn't feel right.

I have never quite understood the race thing, we don't exactly have that concept in French (race in this sense translates to breed, and you can't really say black and white people are different breeds of humans...). And even before this happened, I saw my World History teacher in my dream having to teach us History again in Grade 11 (cuz we don't have history class anymore in Grade 11, so I'm kinda sad, but thank God it happened in my dream).

What are your stance on cultural appropriation? I feel like over the years it has been continuously changing as time went on. Now suddenly, people even attempting at being appreciative wouldn't be enough and more action such as gatekeeping culture would be necessary.

One of my friend for example used to feel insecure about his culture and used to say he was from somewhere else. As he grew older, he grew out of that phase due to possibly more representation on the media since he never used to see his country being talked about before unless it was a French channel. Whenever he shows his pride through K-pop, he would always have messages telling him to "gatekeep" his culture before anyone else takes it. Even just a light-hearted comment of us wasn't safe. He knows that he doesn't want to gatekeep his culture and would love to share it out to as many people as he could. In fact, when a Korean artist Penomeco made an afrobeats song, he felt like he was the only person cheering him on whilst the vast majority hated him since he was doing "cultural appropriation." This is literally the reason why he is now desensitized to any sort, even if it's real or not. People can be very insensitive to when they mention a very topic like this and just say it when people don't want to. It basically gives them the reputation that they always whine whenever someone does something and no matter what, there's no way of winning since there's a cult-like following that agrees with this sort of thing. Although I'm not black so I cannot really say if this is the case, but I can say that it is going a little bit too far that I'm losing faith in humanity every day. I've seen some with Asian culture which isn't as vocal as the others, and yeah it is just as dumb. I think since we grew up with stuff like "International Day" at school or wherever else, we basically grew open to learning about other cultures. It's super obvious that those people has probably never experienced that kind of thing that they wouldn't even know what is it like to share your culture by making food to bring along, dressing up in traditional clothing (or just a football shirt if you were lazy) and listening to music together. I'm from the UK so I don't know if schools has something like this as well. I feel like for the next generation, we should teach kids that we shouldn't gatekeep your culture because it's changing every day and every new generation creates more history to that said culture. You don't just represent your culture, you also represent the future of the culture. Sometimes, things change and that's what happens. The earth used to have one big continent and after millions of years later, we now have 7 since they're broken up in pieces, but do you ever hear about people complaining about that? Before Korea used to be one whole country, now it has broken up into 2. Why aren't we still calling our country Korea? Although you can say that I'm Korean, but they aren't the same country, at least for now unless the Kim family says otherwise. Mad to even think that we separated in the 1950s... just about 70 decades ago, we were one Korea!

It's fine and I agree I think there's a line between appreciation and appropriation. And it's not a thin line. The only requirement is respect and intent. If it's done in a respectful manor in a way to appreciate the culture with genuine interest and love then it's fine. Obviously there's things that hold a spiritual importance that is just off limits unless you are partaking in it and are invited. And that varies from culture to culture. As long as everything is done with respect and love than I think that's all that matters. I only see issue in things that shows true racial ignorance and prejudice. Like when cultural elements are used as a joke, and being mocked like that's not okay. Like if someone is reducing anyone to the consumable parts of they're culture and not seeing them as actual people who will never fit in the box they built for them. Thats when you need to reevaluate. But other than that. it's fine. Its important to share cultures with one another. I think sharing is a great thing and we should exchange our cultures

:LKFJDKFSJD:LFKJ oh boy languages and me... lowkey obsessed w learning them SO one set of my grandparents were german and didnt speak english so i know very basic german (my dad didnt think it was important to teach me. crying screaming throwing up.) and i got to be pretty okay at finnish at one point but i've forgotten ALL of it lol and i took 2 years of latin in highschool which was very fun but again i forgot most of it KLFJSFDLJK AND FINALLY i took a couple years of american sign language in middle school but i literally remember the alphabet and basic kindness' :'] ive also attempted swedish, norwegian, spanish, and french with ... immediate failure ! hehe
