Afternoons in the Nevermore library were quiet.

Aside from the occasional disturbance from shamelessly horny students, it was barren, so silent you could hear the clack of the librarian's keyboard echo clear from even the farthest corner of the room.

This innate desolation made it the preferred meeting place for both you and Wednesday to work on projects.

And a project was precisely the reason why you were there now. Granted, you intentionally arrived early to get in some reading time. Your roommate kindly offered to dogsit Choklit, and well, you certainly weren’t going to turn down the opportunity to read without having to worry about a small animal ruining yet another pair of your socks.

But you knew Wednesday would be there by the allotted meeting time. You’d done this enough times to know that she was never late.

As expected, she showed up at 4:15 on the dot, striding over and putting her bag down on the table as she settled into the chair next to you. While she readied her materials, you organized your worksheets, wholly unprepared for the bomb she was about to drop.

“Are you pregnant?”

The question was so far out of left field that you jumped in your seat, loudly hitting your knee on the underside of the table. The librarian sent you a look. Groaning, you sent her an apologetic wave while you rubbed your aching knee.

Once she looked back at her computer, you whipped your head over to Wednesday so fast that it made your neck hurt.

“What?”

Wednesday, for her part, didn’t miss a beat. “I asked if you were pregnant.”

“No!” you exclaimed; eyes still wide. “Where the hell did you hear that?”

“Enid told me that Yoko told her that you were pregnant with a demon baby.” She said it so matter-of-factly that you nearly laughed.

“I—demon baby??”

“Yes, Yoko said it was thrashing violently in your womb, thus leading her to believe that the fetus was a demon.”

A series of choked, near-maniacal laughs escaped at that. Because this was pure, unadulterated insanity—it had to be a ploy or some weird practical joke that the smaller girl was trying to pull on you. But when you looked at her, you were met with dead eyes, an impassive expression, and expectant raised brows.

She was being dead serious.

Your laughter died down, mouth parting in disbelief. You sighed, brought up a hand to message your temple.

“Wednesday, no. I’m not pregnant. Seriously, do I look pregnant to you?”

Her eyes dropped to your stomach and narrowed as if she was genuinely trying to calculate an answer to your question. “No, I suppose not.”

“Exactly!” you whisper-yelled, “because I’m not.”

“Are you sure?”

You stared at her, dumbfounded. “…Yes??”

“Yoko seemed very convinced,” she supplemented neutrally. Your eye twitched. Yoko’s immortality was going to be put to the test very, very soon.

“Well, Yoko was wrong,” you assured her with a grim, strained smile, and you leaped at the chance to change the subject. “Now, can we actually start our project?”

For a moment, you thought she would say no and force you to continue this conversation from hell, but she nodded, dragging her eyes over your abdomen suspiciously one last time before flipping open her textbook.

With that, you were left to ponder what had just happened and whether your sanity had finally abandoned you. And you did, for a solid sixty-seven seconds. But you couldn’t just sit there all day. Despite the bizarre interruption, you had a project to work on.

You took a deep breath, cursing Choklit’s terrible timing a final time, then forced yourself to focus on the worksheets, determined not to make this afternoon any more embarrassing than it already had been.

Needless to say, you and Yoko were going to have a very lengthy, entirely civil discussion about friend-to-friend confidentiality and spreading harmful rumors.

1. Complicated Creation - Elemental

Easily one of the best fics I've ever read. Great world building based on the Ghibli movie Spirited away. We love to see it. The writing and plot are both breath-taking.

It has quirkless Izuku, spirits, dragons, healing and a sprinkle of a classic trope in the MHA fandom, Dadzawa.

2. Hero Class Civil Warfare - RogueDruid

If you have been in the fandom space for at least a couple of months and have been reading fics, you have, 100% heard of RogueDruid. He has, hands down, some of the most captivating work in the whole of the internet. One of the classics, is HCCW. It has inspired a lot of other fics, which had gone the class War route (hmu if u want reccs). Incredibly well done, the EFFORT that went into this had to be astounding. There isn't a single miss.

Without spoiling too much, the class 1 A and 1 B, have a final exam. The exam in this world, is a war between villain and heros. Izuku is put into the position of the leader of the villains, the Kingpin while his rival, the Paragon, is none other than Katsuki Bakugou. We get a mastermind Izuku, characters from 1 B, that I personally never cared much for, before reading this fic and more.

3. Mastermind: Strategist for Hire by Clouds

Staying in the villain Izuku waters, I present Mastermind. A part of a series called For the want of a nail, that follows different universes in which Izuku stays quirkless. Mastermind is a personal favourite. It's the second installment of the series and has an ongoing sequel. (The series includes Viridian: the green guide, Deku? I think he's some pro, Chet Code: support strategist and two more, which aren't completed yet).

Here, Izuku stays quirkless as he loses any hope left for the hero society. He, unfortunately for the world, is stupidly smart and easily gained a fearsome reputation, for being the best strategist for hire for villains. After realizing the world sucks and he, in fact, doesn't, Izuku becomes a villain the likes héroes have never seen before.

4. The Mystery of Student No.18 by cloud_nine_and_three_quarters

Another author, that has me by the scruff of my goddamm neck. Went for my throat every fuckin time. I will name the other fics later but lemme tell you about this one.

It's the second fic in the list, that has Izuku with OFA. This time though, Izuku stayed true to his self-sacrificing roots and got himself into a coma. While in his lovely sleeping beauty-esk state, OFA keeps giving him energy and thus an once of a lifetime opportunity to become a ghost. Yes you heard that right. He becomes a ghost and lightly haunts his class. The fic is golden, funny and just a little bit sad.

The other three fics, just as good as this one are Canary, Why are we here again? and Displacement.

5. Yesterday upon the stair by PitvViperOfDoom

Keeping with the ghost theme, we have the one and only YUTS. Again, world building is of the charts great. A great quirk and awesome themes with unexpected turns and plots. The gist is, Izuku can see ghosts. This story is one of the rare ones where Nana Shimura (my beloved) plays a bigger role than usual. Definitely chdck out the additional parts of the series though at that point it goes slightly into more crack waters but it's still incredible.

6. [Content] by Teobot

Taking a sharp turn into morally grey vigilante route, we get this great first part of an incredible ongoing series. There are two parts done and the wait is always worth it.

7. Assignment: Personality Swap by BelleAmant

First I wanted to recc their vigilante Izuku fic (Vigil, Ante and their vigilante antics) but I must admit, while a classic, it hasn't been as impactful to the fandom as Personality Swap has been. Both with its incredible humor, bit of angst and quirk fuckery the whole series has been nothing but hits.

8. Another form of power by Jade_Tatsu

Veering directly back into villain Izuku, this one was a breath of fresh air. I once got tired of villain Izuku that was either forced to be a villain or was just a vigilante but darker, so I went on a search and found this. The series All for power, is a 4 part ENTIRELY COMPLETED series, about politician villain Izuku. The first part is told mostly through the eyes of Kurogiri and I swear, it's my favorite of the all.

9. How Seven (7) Dead Heroes Stopped Being Bored by ScottishSunshine

Crack inspired, but more All for one focused that Izuku, but still most things happen because of the Midoriya family so it counts. It's good and fun and an interesting read especially of you're fond of Dad for one.

10. Prodigal by writerllofllworlds

And for the end, let's get our hearts crushed just a little.

An angst filled suspected traitor AU. In my humble opinion, very few have ever truly succeeded in writing a traitor AU, nearly as good as this one. I like it in most part because Izuku goes through hell and back, and I just am like that. It's epic.

Was this list an exuse to talk about fics I like? Yes. But do i feel like everyone who like BNHA should read these?

That chapter lowkey read like a date and like Yuuji really wanted to change his mind before the end and also get to know him more, learn more about him while baring parts of himself he never bared to anyone else (like sheesh... that's pretty deep). He was hoping for an equal exchange (I bare out my heart, you bare yours) but Sukuna wasn't giving anything (even him recognizing hydrangeas got brushed off as Megumi's memory... why is he so afraid of admitting he likes flowers smh)

It's really funny because with them every single thing works somehow? Like there's a solid basis for every interpertation regarding their relationship. Do you see them as enemies? Do you see them as reluctant friends? Do you see them as soulmates? Do you see them as two parts of a single soul? Do you see them as each other's curse? As each other's salvation? Platonically or romantically? Do you see them as lovers? Do you see them as reincarnated uncle and nephew? Do you see them as ??? aka "I don't even know"? All of those are correct interpretations because the ground work to cover all those explanations exists. That's why they're like crack cocaine to me. They are many things in a single package. Mirrors. Foils. Twins. Equals. Opposites.

Objectively— it's true that Yuuji chased Sukuna around, trapped him (frantically) in a domain so he could parade him around his hometown and get them to hang around (while Sukuna, unnaturally, obliged). It's true that Sukuna, no matter how much he claims he doesn't care, cares about him in a weird way. It's clear because he acts a lot more differently with Yuuji than he does with the rest (plus him being the only human for Sukuna who's different than the rest... you already know what canon said lol. I'll get carried away). It's undeniable that there's something very special between them. That's canon! So seeing chapter 265 as awfully romantic isn't a bad interpretation. Their relationship is just... undefined. They're weird and tied to each other, in a love-hate relationship <3

Now personally, I see them in many different aspects. I love them as a ship, platonically, romantically, as die hard enemies or whatever. Their dynamic is the highlight of jjk for me because nobody does it like them. Their chemistry is off the charts and they match each other even if they're so different from each other. Idk I'm insane.

Well, they are a bit iffy to ship to a lot of ppl because Yuuji's a minor (even tho he lived through hell and back at just fifteen and is more mature than actual adults in this manga) and because of reincarnated incest (uncle and nephew) which is invalid if you apply the logic of reincarnation– Yuuji doesn't have Sukuna's twin brother's soul, after all, (He's a completely different one. Biology doesn't equate soul sharing lol.) so it's not just about heteronomativity. After all, people have latched onto other m/m ships without problems but consider these two not shippable even if canon ties them together again and again and they embody good tropes and their relationship is 101 how you can write some damn good tragedies or redemption arcs (because their dynamic and them as characters just work so well together that it's insane).

As somebody who really doesn't care about all the problems this ship carries (because I see them as characters in a fictional world), all of that is irrelevant to me because I, like you, am rolling around in love and screaming into the void because Gege finally brought them together again. That was all that mattered to me! Now I'm excited for what's to come and am really curious how jjk will end.

I have to say it. I started my Shayne journey this week and honestly not mad at all. I just u know, love to see sometimes how Shayne will be looking at chance like he's trying to understand something in him, that he doesn't even realize. Always when chance isn't looking obviously, the other part to me is how gentle the interactions are, sometimes I feel like Shayne is afraid of Chance in a good way I think. Then when they laugh at the same joke, it's rare but curious. I sense like they could be really good friends, but there's something that doesn't let them be close in that way. Maybe they're not trying to be friends, maybe they will always see the other as someone dar away even though they actually have a lot of things to relate. The new video with the fanfic really highlights for me that strange aura around them, like a wall they're too afraid to be friendly, Shayne seemed nervous and I don't understand why, nothing bad really happens and he doesn't like the eye contact too much hahahaha. Those two are a funny little duo, like they would be the kind of friendship that act like they have a secret and wouldn't tell anybody and inside jokes. So I'm saying this to you now, thank you for sharing your love for this duo, they deserve more, even if it's only shipping, it works for me, I don't mind. Another thing is, I would love to see more banter between them in the next videos hahahaha. Chance did a great job in the fanfic, he really is a theater kid. Honestly, I think I like this ship just cause its so interesting and like you said, gentle? There's this sort of softness that I always associate with shaynse, and even any angst I imagine to be the same if that makes sense. I've said it before, but they really do give me the vibes of evermore (by Taylor Swift), Cigarettes After Sex, Lana Del Rey and maybe even Mitski. Also just throwing this in but I've noticed he's started to give Shayne the "Angela..." treatment, "Shayne..." and I think that shows a development in at least friendship. Like taking out any romance, I think you really can notice how they've gotten closer in videos and have great chemistry. I've also noticed in videos recently that they mirror each other a lot or even finish each other's sentences to an extent and I think that's rlly sweet! I've mentioned this before but Chanse often twirls his hair whilst he's listening or talking to Shayne, just an observation! I've noticed he does this kinda thing (not saying it's just limited to Shayne) where he responds to Shayne with this far off look in his eyes as he twirls his hair. Honestly that may very well not be a shaynse moment and is probably Chanse just zoning out, and quite frankly he's so real for that I relate to that so hard. And I'm sorry but my shipping self...the way Chanse looks at Shayne makes me insane sometimes!! Even when neither of them are talking!! And then when Shayne is talking, the eye contact from Chanse is so FIERCE. I've said before that the formula is that Chanse gazes at Shayne and Shayne cries at Chanse's jokes...and honestly now both things apply to both of them! Shayne also very much gives the vibe that he's nervous to compliment Chanse to his face but absolutely gushes abt him to other ppl (this thought coming from Shayne bringing up Chanse AS MUCH AS HE CAN).

I was too shy to tag it as ship since it didn’t feel shippy enough, which is kind of funny to me in hindsight bc I reread it and am like. Man I think only a zx shipper would write this NUFNVJVJV

Honestly my theory for why ppl r very set on the father/son interpretation is everyone’s immediate thought on to how to make the power imbalance between them seem less uncomfortable is to apply a parental interpretation to it. Which is fine ofc, I get it, but the way ppl push it as canon a lot kind of grates on me a little bc they’re usually incredibly passive aggressive and pushy even if u clearly designate ur post as ship OTL

Also not really a fan of the characterizations either since ppl tend to treat Xiao like a moody teenager Zhongli has to reel in (this is hilariously reminiscent of the post I made about how ppl handle scaramouche and nahida a bit ago haha). And idk I just feel kind of polarized about the headcanon overall bc I associate it with people being really uncomfortable and frustrating about zx

I just like how there’s sort of an imbalance to them, some zxs like them being more fluffy and functional but I sort of like it where it’s not like, entirely dysfunctional but I’m prioritizing a specific kind of character study over romance. This tends to be how a lot of my ships go ngl I just sometimes enjoy the intensity/intimacy of romantic feelings thrown into the mix if it makes it interesting but I’m not often interested in a lot of my ships following more standard romance plots(?) I guess? Unless it’s specific ones. Which sounds clinical when I put it like that but this is just bc I am very aromantic NHFBVJVJ

When I say codependency in zhongxiao honestly it’s sort of a theoretical(?) codependency—not sure how to word it? I think Xiao would be really fucked up if he didn’t have Zhongli in his life suddenly but I don’t think his relationship with getting attached to people invokes what people would majorly think of when they think of codependency in a ship I suppose. It’s moreso I just feel Xiao could be at his worst with dehumanizing himself in comparison to other people with Zhongli, because said mental state is driven by how he feels about debt, service, and duty which are very closely tied with devotion and how he would feel about someone he considers his god and leader, as well as someone who saved him

It’s fun this is paired with Zhongli who generally knows how to work with Xiao kind of understands the self destructive depth Xiao’s loyalty/devotion comes with. Also fun they have been around each other for a very long time and Xiao as one of the adepti is familiar with the past I think Zhongli appreciates having around. They work but it’s also a case where Zhongli is in such a position of power over Xiao its kind of very delicate situation that’s hard for both of them to navigate. Which is fun to explore. I esp love contrasting it with other Xiao pairings (actually i think i still have that xiaoven fic up on my ao3 where I tried to convey a specific interpretation of them in a similar exploration vein too)

I totally get why people wouldn’t like it (I feel a lot of my opinions on xiao ships just clash with a lot of fandom consensus so bad all the time And it’s just bc I’m like this I’m not even trying to be contrarian or anything. HELDINCJD) but I just tend to handle shipping in a specific way. It’s not I don’t enjoy fluffy or lighthearted zl and xiao stuff I actually enjoy it a lot I just like there being layers. This makes it feel more impactful when I think about how Zhongli looks out for Xiao in canon or how Xiao gets like textually flustered talking to him (lantern rite 2023 was so tailored to my tastes it’s not even funny)

Was wondering, over here -- what's your favorite type of Scout characterization(s)? I've been in this fandom for almost a decade, and (imo) everyone's got a slightly different spin on him, ranging from "category 5 annoyance, cartoonishly egocentric" to "earnest but afflicted with Early 20s Brain" to anything anywhere in between or beyond that. Got any specific hallmarks you're fond of? Stuff you tend to disregard?

alright so naturally i’m always the type to drift towards characters who, even as you’re reading them, you can kinda see the lenticular way they can be interpreted. you can tell by the author’s tone how the character interprets themselves, and how they’re interpreted by the viewer, and how they’re interpreted by whoever they’re talking to—three-dimensional, in shortform. with grey areas. sort of taking them outside of their trope and giving them the leeway of, at times, even assuming that the media itself is biased regarding them.

which is how i approach tf2, as well—the medium they exist in is, by virtue of being an absurdist comedy, an unreliable narrator.

so when you posit the stances “scout is like if gaston was wicked annoying and 150 pounds max but didn’t notice” vs “earnest, flawed early 20s dude without a ton of perspective on his life”, as if they’re two ends of the spectrum, my answer is, they don’t have to be.

i’m not a huge stickler on interpretations of characters, to be honest, but i do have a few icks with some interpretations of scout. any interpretation that implies he’s one of those dudes who says things for shock value or for a reaction really irritate me, mostly because there’s nothing in the text of canon that would even remotely imply that. scout wouldn’t say some weird shit about a girl going to make him a sandwich or whatever, he’d draw a picture of spy getting hit by a car and then hand it to spy because they don’t get along. giving scout these weird greasy traits just because at a glance you might characterize him that way in the netflix live-action remake, it just comes across as like. like maybe you don’t know what you’re talking about actually. like, the cheapest easiest possible characterization. the wish dot com characterization.

and i know it might seem a little bit like the pot and kettle on this one since i do take such heavy liberties with the characters, but here’s the thing—my argument isn’t that changing the characters in your fanwork is Bad. that’s all fanwork. that’s all interpretation. my argument is that making tf2 characters weirdly bigoted and filling in weird shock value stuff for no reason is fuckin’ lazy.

it’s much harder, and much more vulnerable, and takes way more time and effort, to try to write these characters with good jokes, or with human personalities, or with actual motivations and thought into their behavior, etc etc. and going “scout says [insert alphabetical list of homophobic slurs], because it’s the 70s lol they hate gay ppl” just tells me you’re not capable of writing well.

that’s not to say i even want scout to necessarily be a good person. i think it’s actually kind of funny that he decided to like, learn manners and etiquette and put on a prom for miss pauling, because having a dude who kills people for money do some cute shit like that is weirdly sweet, in a roundabout way. i think the canon of the text would imply that scout tf2 is kind of a sweet dude. but like, y’know. obviously nobody on the team is mentally or emotionally well. mentally and emotionally sound people don’t die and murder for money. writing scout as particularly egocentric, overly concerned with his own life (either in an anxious way or a narcissistic way), loud mouthed, temperamental, a sore loser, unsportsmanlike, those are all takes i’ve seen that have been really interesting spins of his character.

my favorite traits in him are probably things like him being a hugely impulsive talker, way exaggerative of positive emotions (like whenever he or someone else does some cool shit), maybe a little overdramatic and whiny about the small things, him being dude who will see his friend punch someone across the bar and will sprint over to punch them too, a real ride-or-die guy, kinda stubborn. maybe a little catty sometimes, earnest in a weirdly brave sort of way, clumsy or bad luck or both. dude with a weirdly nonexistent sense of shame or embarrassment except about, like, if he finds out he was wearing his shirt backwards when talking to Miss Pauling or something silly like that. and not even necessarily all of these at once! i just like these characterizations in general, and scout tends to get these ones.

hi Ellie! Just wanted to appreciate ihm chapter 3 because you worked SO hard for us, giving us such an intricate and detailed chapter. I haven't wrote in a while so I'm gonna yap a little 😟

First of all, I apologise that you received such an inconsiderate ask from that anon. Your work deserves to be massively appreciated, especially because you spend the free time you have creating long chapters and imagionative plot lines, yet some people refuse to read the room.

It's so easy to just find a smut creator that willingly creates stories without a plot. You shouldn't be pressured into making smut you don't want to make whatsoever, take your time with your chapters and if you would like to add smut in the future, we will be super excited!

Plots are ten times as better when they are built up in my opinion. Just a simple touch could be added to the already simmering tension. And I believe a writer is truly great when they can build a plot to their own imaginations content.

I also enjoyed the new kickoff chapter too! I'm glad that they're taking their time with their relationship instead of instantly sprinting off to the bedroom. ( That's 99% how it not works! )

So glad you're not taking bullshit from the rude askers and anons that merely hide away from personal preferences, instead of waiting patiently for a new chapter.

yeah i think refusing to read the room is def a big part of it. i get easily irritated over entitled ppl so it always kindaaa...angers me when i receive asks that demand/pressure/ask for things. it's funny i'm such a people pleaser until ppl actually tell me to do sumn 😂😂

i agree w you, like sometimes a touch or a simple gesture in a fic can hold a lot more tension or weight than explicit smut. i've watched romance series/shows where a simple kiss i felt more butterflies than any sex scene. and while i'm sooo super excited to write smut for my fics too, it's not appropriate for people to ask for it.

I had just had the most wholesome fluffy angsty could be a little smutty story for enzo (tbh enzo doesn't get that much love I need more fanfics of him his so cute) and I just NEED someone to share it with and maybe get them to write it down, someone who can bring it to light, and who can do it other then my favorite writerrr. I know ur currently full on working on protego and for all I care u can only react to my ask and say "yes that's cute but no" I will be full knowing that u at least looked at this and had the patience to read all of this cause this might be a little long.

Anyway this is the idea:

So the reader (gender neutral or female pls, also could be any house but Slytherin because my idea would work better if they we're another house, also pls if u could make them Hufflepuff it would be amazing) had started Hogwarts late but for a reason, they're family had tasked them to find someone to marry with a bit of a more... Bloody... Background, simply to not scare them away from they're family business (can be anything but not death eaters cause I see so many storys with them being ex death eaters or still death eaters) and who's better then to ask dear old childhood friend pansy for help! Anyway pansy is an amazing and does them the favor to help them, she gives them options ofc being Enzo, Theo, Mattheo and Draco, but before the actual match making we need to meet the ppl see who rubs them the right way and who doesn't. Now because they are from a different house then Slytherin some of the ppl in the group don't welcome them in as easily as one would hope for also teasing pansy for getting along with another house in the process of scaring the shit out of them(I also had the idea of like blaise or mattheo saying smt to pansy like "adopted a raven/badger/cub" because I feel like it would be cute and funny at least to me). Eventually everyone warms up to us and now we get to start picking who we want to choose as theirs, after a while we start to eliminate 3 of the boys ending up with wanting and catching feelings for enzo. While befriending enzo wasn't the hardest of the four getting him to like us back without him fully knowing that them needing to find someone to marry is the whole reason they came to Hogwarts. (This is as far as I went to think of the start and kind of the middle so from here I'm gonna kinds skip to start of the end yk) after a while of being happy, strugglong and making up with enzo they get a letter from dear old parents saying they have found someone for them marry and saying that they don't have a choice and that they will marry them because "they're done waiting for them to find someone they might like" this ofc shutters reader, not knowing what to do they lie to enzo saying they don't love him anymore and that they found someone better and that they'll be leaving Hogwarts the day after. Enzo poor boy lost the love of his life BUT pansy comes and saves the day by telling and showing Enzo the letter that readers parents sent (cause ofc she somehow found it, maybe reader left it behind hoping someone would find it I dunno). Enzo is now on a rescue mission to get his love back and infiltrates the wedding and stealing reader away in the process.

This is as much as I got. this is probably no actually the most I've ever wrote/put effort into writing smt I've never had.

If u did reader this whole think I do thank u and I will understand if u would want to decline my ask and would have no problem with it and I will understand if u do, I mostly wrote this to u because I wanted to share my idea with someone and now I have. If u do choose to make this ask I would be delighted and would get on one knee with a ring pop to propose to u. And I don't remember if I wrote this alright but I do know that ur focusing on the protego series and if u do write it I will happily wait 😊💕

I also just realized that I don't remember if u make enzo storys/fanfics. If u don't and I will check the moment I send this well...

I very much have a hyper-fixation with Enzo right now which is why he’s so heavy in Protego at the moment 😅

I really really love this idea but want to get a couple more chapters of Protego out before I hit any of the requests sitting in my ask, which I’m sure you understand!
