Ooo may we get a teaser for the regency wesper fic?

yes!! This is quite a long one BC I've not shared much of this au in a while and also I'm just charmed by the whole stretch of it:

When Wylan sits, their thighs touch. Jesper doesn’t mind. He just… takes notice. That’s all. He turns to Wylan (they are awfully close, aren’t they?) and stares at him. Wylan stares back. He says nothing, so Jesper clears his throat. “What’s with the cap?”

Wylan frowns. Self-consciously, he lifts his hand to brush his fingers against the dark material. “I didn’t want anyone my father knows to see me here.”

The thought makes Jesper laugh. The cap he’s wearing has mercher written all over it. It is staid black and velvety soft, nothing like the bright top hats and fascinators everyone around them wears. The chance of Wylan passing as anyone lesser than a marquis in something that drab is next to none. In a bid to be civil, Jesper doesn’t point that out. “You really aren’t meant to be here, are you?”

Quietly, Wylan laughs. “I snuck out. I’m meant to be practising the flute.”

Jesper lifts an eyebrow. “You play the flute.”

“Quite well.”

“Just quite well? No wonder you aren’t married yet. I hear it’s only the very best flautists that catch the finest ladies’ eyes.”

Wylan snorts. “Ghezen, I must be trying too hard. How badly do I have to play to put them off?”

anyone want to hear my six of crows x jane austen's emma au. yes of course you do don't be silly. the only person allowed to be silly is me as I descend into madness in the course of trying to cast this. (if you think 'I've heard this before' yes I've posted abt it before tho I think it was on my main)

kaz is emma, a bored, overintelligent rich bitch stuck in a country house with a bunch of shit idiot neighbours and almost no one to entertain or match him. fucking useless dad per haskell / mr woodhouse is a weaksauce hypochrondriac, and jordie / isabella has gone and got married and ditched kaz, the bastard. the only consolation is their neighbour inej / mr knightley, who is rich, sensible, popular, and elegible as hell... glory be, an intellectual equal for kaz!

in order to be less bored, kaz takes on a protege, mysterious randomer and natural son wylan / harriet smith, who kaz decides to mould in his own image and make a good match for. wylan is in love with gentleman farmer jesper / robert martin, but kaz is a snob and tries to push him towards local vicar kuwei / mr elton (I KNOW. I'M SORRY KUWEI), but that all goes tits up bc turns out kaz is a fucking terrible matchmaker, who'd've known.

meanwhile, unassuming and a little cold, but locally well-liked matthias / jane fairfax has arrived back in the village, and kaz busily commences hating on him because he's another accomplished young man and he makes him feel inadequate. hot on his heels comes the mysterious nina / frank churchill (NINA I'M SO SORRY I FUCKING HATE FRANK BUT THIS IS WHAT WORKS FOR THE COUPLES YOU CAN BE A NICE FRANK CHURCHILL ): ), who kaz is kind of fascinated by and enjoys sparring with, and hence kind of misses the really obvious signs that nina and matthias are secretly engaged, even though inej, ever thief of secrets, has lowkey noticed something's up, like matthias getting mysterious gifts from someone. kaz ends up being convinced that possibly it's inej that's pursuing matthias, which nina encourages because it helps her cover, and kaz kinda panics.

everyone has petty village drama which culiminates when kaz sneers at pekka rollins / miss bates (LISTEN. LI actually you don't need to listen bc I laughed out loud when I thought of this comparison but hear me out, if you just think of it as the equivalent of the church of barter scene except instead of 'I buried him' it's 'when have you ever stopped at three?' it kind of works. sorry to miss bates tho who is still kinda my fave austen character) at box hill, which culminates in inej going BOY WHAT THE FUCK IS YOUR PROBLEM and kaz is like wow she kind of has a point should I be a better person :/

uhh what else even happens. there's a ball after nina massively encourages one, inej saves wylan from being partnerless and later dances with kaz (think of the gloveless dance scene from the 2020 adaptation? yeah? yeahh??). the regency gender conventions here are getting so messed up lmao, never mind. in emma harriet fancies herself in love with mr knightley and emma is forced to realise that she likes him, so let's say that wylan pretends to be after inej, in order to strong arm kaz into realising that he's wanted to marry inej this entire time. wylan's dad turns out to be minted (I'm stretching the book here to make it work w SOC but never mind) but that's after kaz has admitted he fucked up and sent wylan off to marry gentleman farmer jesper, yaaay. nina's relatives who are stopping her from marrying matthias die and hence there's a massive revelation with 'oh they were engaged this whole time lol', kaz is PISSED bc he didn't clock it. uh. everyone gets married and now kaz can escape the shit village and actually go places. the end.

it sums up so much about wylan and there's so much to unpack there, and i have almost all the dialogue written for the third chapter, but here's a little snippet for you :)

Wylan tilted his head. “You believe in Saints?” “I don’t believe in Ghezen,” Jesper shrugged. He wasn’t sure he believed in blessings either, but it felt like running in circles: everywhere he tried to run, the memory of the Prince was there, haunting, taunting. “That wasn’t what I asked,” Wylan said, stubborn. The lessons had paid off – Wylan did sound like a Prince. But Jesper had never been good at listening to Princes. Shaking his head, he picked up his hat again and put it on, letting one side drag down more than the other, more than was fair. “Lesson thirteen, princeling,” he replied, “we don’t always get what we ask for.”

fr though if you're asking which season of bridgerton it pulls from most it's definitely more s1 than the others but it draws vibes from the series/franchise as a whole!

“You know,” his father says, “there’s a lot to look forward to about marriage.” Jesper raises an eyebrow. His father carries on anyway. “It’s good having someone that you know will always be there for you.”

“Yeah,” Jesper says, slowly.

His father clears his throat. “There are other things, of course." His voice sounds… uncertain. Jesper furrows his brow, a little bit confused.

“Like…”

“Tax benefits,” Colm says. Jesper squints.

“I’m sure Wylan will be all over that,” he manages, still a little lost. His father nods, rather adamantly.

“Of course,” he confirms. “And you two will have your own home. You can find time to go shooting again.”

Jesper nods, slowly, just once. “Y—eah.”

With notable effort, his father sighs. “Listen, Jes. I don’t have much experience with the way two husbands… celebrate their marriages."

Jesper blinks. Oh. Oh, no. “Da.”

“I’m sure you know the… obvious differences, but I’ve been assured that with proper cleaning and care—”

“Da.”

“You may have already discovered this sort of thing,” his father says, lifting his hands, “and if you have—”

“All Saints, Da!” Jesper blurts. “Are you trying to give me a sex talk?”

it's wip wednesday and i've not shared a snippet in a while so this is from the next chapter of regency wesper au ���🌷

“I’m glad you could make it tonight,” Wylan says. When he speaks, his voice is rich like red wine.  

Jesper jerks his face away, certain it’s warm and certain he doesn’t want to think about why. “I wanted to get a good look at the inside of your house.” He reaches for a fresh, unsquished cake, lifting it to his lips and biting into it. It’s sweet, and does taste like orange. His favourite. Jesper waves a hand around the artfully decorated hall. “What’s the occasion?”

“Does there have to be one?” 

Jesper shrugs, and thinks, my birthday is in three days, and you know that. “I suppose not. Did your father just want to show off your flute playing to your suitors?”

“Maybe,” Wylan says. His lips curve into a dry little smile that Jesper might find a bit too endearing, considering what he’s been putting up with – and the fact that Jesper still isn’t certain that the two of them are even friends. 

Nonchalantly, Wylan brushes his knuckles over his bottom lip. It’s a careful motion, an innocent gesture. Still looking up at Jesper from under the curve of his lashes, he puts the end of his thumb into his mouth to suck off more smudged icing.  

Jesper blurts, “Shall we dance?”
