Belief Determines Conduct Through my Attitude of Trials

Sermon Recap

What do you do when things don’t turn out as you expected? How do you respond when faced with a difficult situation? Do you grow stronger or grow bitter? Who do you look to when things happen in your life that don’t seem fair?

We continue our study of James with the second sermon in the series. Today Pastor Ric helps us dissect James 1, verses 1-4, considering each chosen word carefully and what they mean for us as Christians. 

                                     Scripture Focus: James 1:1-4

The human experience is filled with bumps, twists, and turns, some expected- others not.  One day you are walking along smiling, and humming, listening to the birds sing, life is just great, when suddenly you trip and tumble into a hole, a pit, its dark, and cold, and lonely. That pit is not at all where you planned to spend your day, month, year, or how ever long it takes you to get out. But there is where you find yourself. Now what will you do about it? 

James tells us exactly what we should do, what we must do: 

Consider. Choose what to focus on, what you will have faith in. Trials can either strengthen your faith in God, or grow bitterness in your heart. Remember the parable of the sower in Mark 4:1-20. We are the soil, and Jesus is the seed. Which type of soil are you?

Know. Know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. All Christians will endure trials, age old trials spun to a uniqueness that is only for you.  For a Christian trials are not to test whether you have faith but rather, to grow and strengthen your faith. Like a school teacher God tests our faith with a loving dedication. Faith is a belief system, the object of our trust.  Are you placing faith in something, or someone, other than God? 

 Let. And let the endurance have its full effect, so that you be mature and complete, lacking nothing. Feel the full impact of the trial, and let it shape you. Do not run from it, hid from it, or make excuses for it.  Feel the pain, heartaches, and hurt.  Let it redefine you. Let trials produce within you a character more Godly than you previously imagined was possible. 

God works in your life through trials. Trials are often painful, there are times when we cant wrap our heads around why God would have us endure something so hard.  Be strong in your faith, knowing that what you are experiencing is ultimately good for you, and is for a greater purpose, even when its hard to see that. Let the trials you endure bring you closer to God, not further away. Remember that even Jesus did not wish to endure his painful death on the cross, He prayed HARD that God would find another way but since it was the only way, Jesus endured, as it was a necessary step on His journey to become the Savior of all. We must face our trials in that same manner, with a strong faith, and knowledge that God only gives us what we can handle.  

It is said that true growth happens on the other side of our comfort zone. Life’s trials place us outside our comfort zone in so many ways. When we are secure in our faith in the God who loves us we can endure hard things, knowing that He always has a grip on our lives and our circumstances. Our loving Father never tempts us to sin. The difference between between a test, and a temptation is our attitude about it.  How are you looking at the trials in your life? Are you letting them shape you to be more like Christ, or are you letting them harden your heart?

It's quarantine spirit week, and today's theme is Christmas!! Yay!! So I pulled out one of my ugly Christmas sweaters to celebrate. Small things can bring us joy and connection in this time. Across the front of my sweater is the word #believe. It's a question I ask everyday lately. In uncertain times, when you feel confused, it's a question important to help find stability. What do I believe? What do I lean on in times like this? Here are a few things I believe: ♥️I believe that kindness and love will help us beat this, and that it will shine far brighter than any of the bad. ♥️ I believe that we are given small and large blessings to hold onto during times like this. Look for them. ♥️ I believe that this will end, and we will come back stronger than ever before. Any trial helps you learn, adapt, and grow. It's up to you how you will let this grow you. Will you grow to be a light in the darkness? ♥️ I believe that the enemy is on the attack, but he will not win. ♥️ I believe in prayer and that God is bigger than this. What do you believe? How are you holding strong during this time? As for me I will keep what parts of a routine I can. I will pray often. Spread joy often. I will pay attention to and enjoy small things like #socialdistancespiritweek. I will be thankful for what I have. I will help those who need it more than me. I will ask for wisdom and discernment. How did we get here? • It is a question that has challenged scientists, philosophers, biologists, theologists, palaeontologists and of course, yogis. In the yoga tradition, it is believed that everything started with one sound and that sound is #Om. Everything we see today, the sky, mountains, the sea, the sand and all forms of life, came from that sound. And that sound carries all the energy and vibration that have created everything we see today. • @insideyoga and I recently had an interesting discussion at #thailandyogafestival about energy - by quoting the laws of #thermodynamics - that energy cannot be created nor can it be destroyed - it can only be transferred. From electricity to kinetic, from light to heat, etc. If you believe that emotions are a form of subtle energy, then as yoga teachers we are constantly transferring energy, or #prana, as yogis would call it. • I had the honour and opportunity to perform with the senior #insideflow team @ym_monika @yk_lucia @yk_lucia @irinayoga_ in the last few days. This newer style of yoga that teaches you how to feel, through the power of music (sound energy) - with the right intention, it will bring the very depths of your feelings. It makes me think again. Why do I teach yoga? • In my #mentorshipworkshop, I keep telling my new teachers that, at the end of the day, no one remembers how well you can teach their students #downdog, #handstand or #headstand, but they will always remember how they feel after successfully doing a handstand for example - the transformation and empowerment you as a teacher can offer. I think it’s the same thing with #insideflow. Afterlife?

This isn’t my story but maybe it is. It has been coming to me like a novel here in the last couple of years. “It is the song of a tale that happened long before I was born. Perhaps this person is connected to me in memories and in time. But their story is similar to mine in that they were raped by their father. Only in this story they were raped by their mother too, the parents raped their own child together. This person was ripped apart and morphed into a monster because of their parents. They eventually turned around and killed their father. The mother took her child to court for murder. Of course the child plead not guilty because it was in defense of rape. The mother lied and made the entire case favor the parents making her child look like she had some mental illness from some trauma that happened at school (lies) and convinced the jury that she was mentally unstable and a pathological liar. The stories were too gruesome for them to believe and the murder was so brutal that they determined it was a planned homicide.”

In my life… it is like she redeemed herself. Instead of killing him… she got him to kill himself. My father is dead, after standing up to him about the abuse. I wonder in part if she helped with her own connections to life. She didn’t want me to go through what she went through. Homelessness is a prison in itself but at least I got to rebuild. She didn’t. She went to jail for life... or he... not sure. I wonder if I will repeat this life again… I definitely have a blood lust for my abusers. It is like she finds them and become their kin and raised by them. They harm her and it gives her the excuse to kill. She loves it because it is dark in there and it feels like winning an Olympic game of hide and seek with our souls, trying to find the culprit without becoming it yourself. Religious people call it by so many different names… in Science it is just the echo of life and death and the struggle and result in between, but I believe there is more to that science than we can see. Do I want to know? How would I know? But I can believe and be curious.

Do you trust Me? Do you trust Me to give you what you need? I believe when we tell God, I TRUST YOU, that He puts our TRUST to the TEST! It's EASY to trust God when the sun is shining, your health is good, money is good, family is good and things are on the up and up! But, do you still trust God when things are upside down in your life? Do you trust God in the valley? Do you trust God through the darkness? Do you trust God through your loneliness? Do you trust God when your finances and/or romance is jacked up? Do you trust God to fulfill His promises to you, even when you don't see any movement toward them right now? God wants to know if this is just lip-service or do you really trust Him? Do not worry or be concerned when trials and tribulations come your way. DO. YOU. TRUST. HIM? God's grace is sufficient and He is always with you in your darkest hours. Do you trust Him? Picked up some new books today. I'm at a point in my time on this planet that I need to start taking better care of myself. I get back into the things I love and treating myself better, and get back into the things I used to love was learning and trying to figure my shit out. I had a thirst for knowledge, and it was glorious! A long time ago, I used to have the most wonderful collection of Witchcraft and occult books and items. Sadly, l lost a large chunk of them to some shitty circumstances/people, others just were lost over time. I was lucky enough to be given a beautiful book over the summer by @j_roorda_photos that rekindled that need to learn,.
