Corporal Miles James. Linocut. By Quinton Jennings-Sherman, aka Q5. 2018. This gentleman was a slave from what is now known as VA Beach that joined the Army at Fort Monroe on Dec. 28th, 1863. He was assigned to Company B, 36th Infantry United States Colored Troops. At the Battle of New Market Heights (Chaffin's Farm), he took heavy shrapnel to the left arm resulting in mutilation. In spite of this...he continued to load and discharge his weapon with his good arm in order to help his fellow soldiers advance. They were within 30 yards of enemy territory as he did this. This morning, I asked the cards "What will I learn about myself today?" I drew the Moon from The Wayhome Tarot. 🐺 A Wolf howls at the moon behind him. In the waters, I can see his shadow self who remains still. When I look at this card, I see a call to the wild and free, a cascade if moonlight and water bringing cleansing and clarity. However, this is a call to look deep within my shadow side and what it can teach me. 🐺 My focus is always on the positive and the light. However, I can't forget what I learned about myself in the dark parts of my life. That does not mean that I have to enter the dark forest again, but merely remember what I learned there. My shadow side saw me through very difficult times. 🐺 I need to remember that you can't have shadows without the light, that they are part of eachother, a fine balance. What I Learnt From My 21 Years Of Living.

I know for sure that 21 Years is not even close to the word “long-live”, but I think it’s safe to say I’ve been through enough to learn my lessons. Here are a few things I have learnt randomly, unexpectedly, without any hies or hellos, life just slapped me on the face and gave me some lessons to learn (which I will keep on updating throughout my life, probably)  : 

1) Life is about keep on going with what you have. Even when you have zero cash, zero degree, zero friend, not even a shoulder to lean on. Go forward with what you have, don’t ever be afraid to start because most of times, we actually got nothing to lose, except our minds told us so. 

2) You can never stop someone from doing what they want (and vice versa). Not your dad, mom, lover, sister, brother, and someone you love. People got secrets hidden from you, they do bad things behind your back, but so do you. What can we do is to forgive people, forgive ourselves, love them for the things they did right. If someone really appreciates or, loves you.. life will lead them to you no matter how far they went. 

3) You gotta go through so many, many rains and storms before you see the rainbow. I mean, getting something you want in life takes bloods and efforts, literally. I have been in those times where I got no hope, nothing, so far from where I wanted to be. The only key is to have faith and don’t let yourself give up. I once read that universe falls in love with a stubborn heart, and it’s as true as the rainbow I’m looking at right now  ♥

4) No matter how bitter people treat you, show them that you can treat them the opposite way. People will let you down, break you apart, they even will underestimate you.. just let them know that you are so kind-hearted that you can forgive, you’re so strong that you can get up without hurting them back, and you’re so motivated you’re so much better than what they think. Believe me when I say that a pure heart can change the world, little by little.  

5) And please, please never give up on your dreams. Opportunities are all around, if you wanna put enough effort to reach for it.If someone like me can get a chance to be where I am now, I’m pretty sure there’s so much hope for every one of you! ★ ♥
