In comparison to year five, year six casted a rather gloomy atmosphere. You had anticipated the free periods were meant to deceive when you got your hands on the schedule. And you were right, free periods indeed served as an attempt to keep up with the amount of homework that was being set rather than for enjoyment, the bar high. Not only were you studying as though exams were everyday, but the lessons themselves became more demanding than ever before.
The sixth year was the year in which you and all of your classmates advanced to N.E.W.T. level classes — short for Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Test.
Based off your O.W.L scores — standard tests taken at the end of year five — and depending on the minimum requests of the professor teaching the subject at that time, you were allowed to participate in any number of classes as long as you met the requirements. Neither the core classes nor the elective courses were available to those who did not meet said requirements, holding some of your fellow classmates back. While you did have the opportunity to choose whether you wished to continue in particular subjects, those N.E.W.T. subjects you began studying in your sixth year were expected to be carried on into year seven, and to pass the N.E.W.T. exam in that subject as a form of graduation.
You could also elect to take part in Apparition lessons for a fee of twelve Galleons — to teleport to or from a place. If one was seventeen years of age, or would turn seventeen on or before the 31st of August then you’d be eligible for a twelve-week course of Apparition Lessons from a Ministry of Magic Apparition instructor. Nearly the entirety of the whole year applied, because for one it was a skill which could come in pretty handy and would certainly make things much easier. The class was scheduled to take place shortly after Christmas before the arrival of spring.
Destination, Determination, and Deliberation — the three D’s of Apparition.
The lessons consisted of students needing to apparate into a hoop by focusing your mind on the hoop and then to spin around with the intention of appearing in the hoop. Other Hogwarts teachers would be around to assist any students who had accidentally splinched themselves during the lessons. That’s when many of the most changed their mind due to fear, fear of getting splinched — or also known as the separation of random body parts which would occur when the mind was insufficiently determined. For some the price wasn’t worth paying for.
You would received a licence to Apparate by the end of April if you were successful enough. Luckily, you were and most of your friends too. Expect Arabella who was one of the majority who hadn’t finished the course due to her self doubting. Those who splinched themselves during the final exam, even in a minor way, would be forced to retake the test.
Other than that, year sixth managed to have you and the larger part of students burying your noses in books, succumbing to a cycle of getting up each morning only to end up utterly spent each night. Balancing quidditch, your social life and studies forced you to make a merciless sacrifice in your sleep schedule. Running low on energy while holding up your imagine along with grades was nearly impossible. One of your spheres had to experience a lack. The social aspect of your life receiving the low blow eventually.
When the Yule ball came to an end, the blossoming romance between you and the prince of Gryffindor’s quidditch only crossed the starting line. It soon became evident that the two of you would form a couple, extending everyone’s expectations. You spent the entire spring together, whenever it was walking around the Black lake or staying up late in the library after the curfew, stealing clandestine kisses from each other. You didn’t hold it against the other when you played on the field, one’s team surpassing the other. He quickly became accustomed to your ways with your friends, joining you on your trips to Hogsmeade regularly. He was kind enough to make sure you were fed and hydrated throughout the weeks before upcoming exams. He was there to console you when the Slytherin’s word ripped through your set up walls, comforting you about your academical abilities. He was kind despite his firm looking nature, he cared for you in way you wished someone would when you read fairytales as a child. For some time, it was all portrayed perfectly in your eyes. Flawless. Maybe it was because you often skimmed through lessons ahead, giving you a heads up, therefore you didn’t felt the need to overbearingly study as others, sparing time for your boyfriend. That didn’t seem to transfer into year six as it was a completely new custom for you. You panicked, picking yourself together barely with no effort left for a relationship at that moment.
Unfortunately, by that time, you guessed what Satoru Gojo meant by referring to your boyfriend as “someone like that”. The words which he spitted out after still lingering in your head during many of your sleepless nights too. It slowly began to go downhill in late summer of year six when you were already settled back at school, your banter changing for the worse. He started to pop by less and less, leaving you with your friends. His efforts in conversations became stiff and forced. You sensed how wrong it felt, the sudden shift. In the beginning of the downfall, you thought of the words the white haired Slytherin slurred out. Pushing them aside as they were surely only haunting your mind for nothing. However, as time went on it unraveled he might have been right to some extent. Not that you would ever admit to anyone.
You blamed yourself for the fall out between you, often engaging in conversations and apologising for the lack of anticipation from your side. Only for it to end the same as it always did. Him telling you to not worry about it since he understands how much your academics matter to you, promising to be and do better. And couple of days, if not hours, he’d be the same as before, depriving you of any explanation. Driving you further down the hole.
It was one of those foggy early mornings in potion lessons when you could feel your eyes shutting down in exhaustion, your body betraying you after you spent extra hours chatting with your impatient boyfriend last night. Trying to push away the inevitable, which was hanging in the thick air above your head, waiting patiently to grab you by the throat and behead you.
You were brought to life by a tug at your sleeve to warn you of the professor entering, the older twin saving you from earning yourself detention. Dorothy was the only one from your friends joining you on taking advanced positions as it wasn’t a fan favourite between the students for its need of precision. Arabella was one for herbology and taking care of magical creatures, while Beatrice thrilled in astronomy and divination, often practicing her reading skills on you. You too weren’t overly keen to potions, nonetheless you took the class, thinking about your future instead. You had it figured out back then, heading into the same field of work as your mother.
The main classes you chose for your advantage were: history of magic (undoubtedly your favourite), defence against the dark arts, charms, transfiguration and lastly, astronomy (since you liked to understand your friend’s rambling at least a bit and found it breathtaking).
The female professor clasped her hands in an attempt to gather your attention before greeting you with a cheeky smile. The lesson hadn’t started without her expressing excitement about how so many students joined her class that year, her voice dripping with honesty and gratitude. Truthfully, you still couldn’t pay close attention to what she had to say as the lack of sleep kept bothering you. You couldn’t recall the last time you had felt so tired. You blinked a couple of times, chasing the exhaustion away and in the process you caught a piece of artic locks cornered into the other side of the room. That damn bastard picked nearly the same advanced classes as you since he didn’t give a particular care about it, he was good at anything anyway, so he could pesk you even then. Your movements weren’t swift enough to not make out the sign of lazy smirk written all over his lips.
“This potion will may be appetising to you, young folks, for what is stupidity without youthful love?” the professor’s soothing voice echoed almost poetically in your mind, thoughts sliding over to the imagine of your boyfriend, her words scratching a place.
“Does anymore here know what is inside?” she takes a step closer to a pot, palm lingering over the lid to build up some sort of tension. Leaving all the students to go guessing about what is swirling within the walls of the pot, her words serving as a riddle.
“Amortentia,” you blurted out in a whisper, shocked that the professor managed to caught your words. She praised you instantly, removing the lid.
“Come closer and tell me what else you know, child,” she gestured for you to come closer with her hand, nodding her head gently in your direction. You took a sharp breath, steadying yourself before stepping closer to her, revealing your tired figure to the remaining students.
“It’s the most powerful love potion in the world. It is distinctive for its mother-of-pearl sheen, and steam rising from the potion in spirals,” you spoke deliberately with care, voice loud enough for everyone in the room to hear this time.
“It smells different to each person, according to what attracts them,” you went on, endless hours in the library granting you the information which was now basically engraved in your hemispheres.
“For example, to me it smells like,” your body inched closer to the pot, leaning over to see the bubbling pink liquid painted in the same shade as newly sprang carnations.
“Cinnamon,” was the first thing pushing up through your nostrils, the familiarity of it making your head spin. Your boyfriend carried the smell, you recognised it immediately.
“Quill ink,” as the second aroma took over you, the intensity made you nearly stumble. You couldn’t count how many times you ended up with quill stains after study sessions, who didn’t use quill ink? The diversity of the smell leaving you waver.
“Crispy winter air,” you mumbled as you sniffed the spiralling essence of the potion.
“White amber and..” you shallowed the dry lump in your throat when two other scents materialised. Peppermint cream? Your mouth couldn’t voice out the other smell out loud, not comprehending where it was all coming from as those notes were not something you were able to categorise.
You stepped back, eyes temporarily shutting to regain your sanity. You shook your head, clearing your throat in the process and then lined yourself back amongst the other students, pushing strands of hair behind your ear. You walked with your head low, only looking up at the sight of the older twin arching her brows at you in curiosity. You would definitely be under an interrogation later.
“Very good, love,” the professor congratulated you in addition.
“As you can see the advanced potion is strong to the point where the simple smell can be overwhelming to some. The usage of it in history is well known and registered, causing the produce of it to become very restricted for one should never underestimate obsessive infatuation,” the voice carries on, hinting causation while your senses still fumbled with the overwhelming scents, making your head pound.
“Please, feel welcomed to smell it,” she once again gestured with her hand, inviting everyone closer.
A line of curious students formed, the queue including both your friend and the white haired wizard as well. Dorothy first asked if you would be okay on your own for a moment to which you simply nodded, bearing a soft smile.
Some people called out what they were sensing, some kept it to themselves. Satoru was the one to keep quiet, he stood by the pod for longer than you intended he would. Your eyes calculating his movements, part of you curious what someone like him would proceed to smell in the watery attraction. The furrowing of his brows escaping your vision.

A layer of silent heaving pressed onto you as the winter break approached. There used to be a certain tenderness linked with winter in addition to the coldness, now it transformed into despair, leaving your heart bruised.
You were sprawled on a cushioned couch in the Ravenclaw’s common room, the place dead silent as most people already took the train home. The unusual void of businesses leaving you to drown in your sorrows. You sat by the fireplace, the silence so demanding you could pick out the sound of burning wood, the dancing spurts of flickering fire reflecting in your orbs as you pondered your troubled mind. This specific time last year felt like you were living a novel-like life, unlike these douses of misery you were being fed now.
For a while your life truly felt perfect, you were chasing a high so blindly that you forgot that the only way out from a high is to go down. Further down than you anticipated. And you also couldn’t believe that the next year would be your last at the school of magic, time flashing quickly before your eyes.
Your father’s health severely declined somewhere admits the seasons which is why you were advised to stay at Hogwarts for the break by your mother, exceptionally. It wounded her to leave you behind for such a holiday, however, she promised she and your father would make it up to you. Once they would return from the continent of America. They travelled overseas in search of a high quality doctor who could find an alternative treatment that might work for your father, because the ones they tried back at your hometown weren’t enough. It shred you to pieces seeing the life deflate from your father’s features. You begged your mother to let you come with them as you were nearly an adult legally. Though it wasn’t enough to convince her. She didn’t want you to see the cruelty of the situation through your own lenses.
“Finished packing?” you didn’t need to check who it was, your gaze stayed glued to the ceiling covered with paintings of constellations, the solar system and lonely stars.
“What are you doing here?” the question wrapped without any distinguishing emotion he could decipher, making him tilt his head to the side at your current state of misery.
“Relax,” he said teasingly “I was dropping something by,” he huffed out, hands hidden in his pockets. You navigated your head towards him for a brief moment, noticing he wasn’t dressed in the usual black robe with the uniform underneath. He was dressed casual. No, casual perhaps wouldn’t be the best word to describe him in any sense. His form was hugged by a burgundy jumper, a button up shirt with a tie tucked beneath safely. A belt securing his pleated jet black pants in place at his waist. An elegant black coat draped over his forearm which matched his pants. He must have been on his way home too.
“You got in?” you questioned as the only way to get in to the Ravenclaw’s common room is to solve a riddle given at the entrance, expression puzzled before you picked yourself up to sit. You straightened your posture to appear more put together, you didn’t want him to see you hitting rock bottom.
“Like it’s what? Hard?” his eyes austere and searching, shit-eating grin forming on his lips.
“You haven’t answered my question,” he called you out a moment later when he figured you wouldn’t be answering him. He took in your appearance, of course, the change in your demeanour impossible to overlook since it was so unlike your normal self.
“Yeah, I am,” you lied hesitantly, unsure whenever he already knew what’s been spread around or if he was clueless to your father’s state. You chose to lie, hoping he wouldn’t know any circumstances so you could get out of the interaction as soon as possible.
He is not ought to be informed, you thought to yourself. He was the last person on Earth you wished to cross paths with and explain the situation to so the universe must have hated you.
“Oh yeah? Then why aren’t you on the train home with Arabella?” he scoffed at your lame attempt of cover up, but his tone didn’t cary any trace of his usual arrogance.
“Were you spying on me?” you tried to dodge the topic once again, rolling your eyes in annoyance.
“I saw you two saying goodbye,” he mumbled, shrugging his shoulders as his expression transformed into a sheepish one at best.
“So you were,” you clicked your lips together, leaning into the couch. Your gaze wandered into your lap, fingers tracing out the delicate drawings of hearts on your pyjama pants. From what you heard his birthday was in winter, in December as a matter of fact. Actually getting to think about it, it wasn’t a breathtaking sacred fact, it made sense to a degree. His presence awoke the same energy as winter days of clear brilliance.
So his birthday must have been days ago, the thought sprinted across your brain.
“Don’t you go home every break?” the words shot up straight into your heart which instantly shattered a little over his innocent question. Satoru Gojo didn’t act with the intention to cause damage for the first time since forever, yet he still unknowingly managed to do the opposite of what he truly wanted.
“Something came up,” for the first time since the beginning of your times, you haven’t barked back at him as you were too preoccupied with your own wonderings to acknowledge such an option. It would be a lie to say it didn’t knock the wind out of Satoru’s lungs to see you deprived of your drive.
“Staying here, is it?” he nodded casually, scanning the common room and even propping his head back a little to catch a peak of the painted ceiling, his Adam’s apple bobbing in the process.
“Mhhm,” a hum of agreement slipped past your lips.
“Merry Christmas then,” the white haired wizard hadn’t felt an urge to poke you any further so he wished you happy holidays as a way to depart, sensing his presence wasn’t welcomed. Plus, he had a train to catch.
“Merry Christmas,” you whispered back dryly, letting him hang on for a second. He then nodded, sparing you one last look before taking his leave.
The conversation felt unlike any other you shared, it was force less and lacking in your dynamic. It worried the blue eyed young man. He reflected on the chat while on the train, cracking his head open on what could possibly bend you to your knees when his years of bickering and pestering couldn’t.
And soon it was March already. You opened the windows, spring floating in and kissing you on the tip of your nose. God, you have waited eternally — now the sun bathed the world in layers of lucent yellow. But the small delight from the awakening of the sun didn’t last as it wasn’t long till you found out it indeed wasn’t your boyfriend you smelled in the love sickening potion. To be specific, your ex boyfriend. You had no idea whose scents you sensed and it probably would be a little maddening to you if you wouldn’t be broken over the fact you got broken up with. Not only that. The quidditch star of Gryffindor mapped it out in a clever way, pulling you to the side after practice to spill the truth. Well, his own truth he built up in order to come out as the good guy.
His voice was gentle as he guided you through all the reasons why you weren’t able to form a match any longer, highlighting his own mistakes and taking most of the blame to make himself feel less guilty. You kept still as your throat tightened to the point where speaking was not a privileged you possessed at the moment. Tears prickled in the corners of your eyes throughout his way with words, your stubborn strength pushing you to leave your emotions in check. At least until he would be gone or you somewhere out of his sights.
It crashed down onto you properly days later when he promenaded himself through the hall with a new girl by his side. You understood then, all his indifferences and cold, vacant answers. The rush of pain felt like an arrow piercing through your flesh, blood gushing out of the wound as you remained unable to tent it. The news came to you from his distant cousin. A girl Arabella was seeing in a secret since the ball, making it even worse knowing there were three of you in the relationship.
Regardless of the changing weather of March, you ended up enveloped in the arms of your dear friend at the very top of the Astronomy tower where you occasionally went when you could tolerate each other’s presence only. It was a safe space for you. And you desperately needed a place where you could come apart.
“I wish there was a way to know, then I would never allow it to even start,” your shaky voice declared as your head rested against your friend’s chest, her vanilla scent gently attacking your senses as tears continued to stream down your cheeks. Eyes puffy and red from the amount of tears shed.
“Don’t be like that, it made you happy for a while. Isn’t that enough?” her fingers soothingly glided over your hair, bringing a sense of comfort and placing a bandage over your torn heart which bled and bled. The one she didn’t break.
“I was foolish,” your defeated form stated and as you replayed the whole relationship, the signs were there. You simply couldn’t seem them due to the blindness and stupidity of love which only left you feeling dumber now. Something not even the strongest love potion in the world could fix.
“It’s the price we pay for love. Stop being hard on yourself,” Arabella’s voice pressed, scolding you for degrading yourself, because seeing you so bend left a sore bruise on her as well.
“I, just- how will I be able to go around now?” you spoke softly in a muffled tone. The bare imagine of how it would feel to walk through the hallways, attend quidditch practices and lessons while having to face him shattered you down. Your face pressing into the skin of her chest harder.
“You’ll wake up one morning without the pain,” your friend went on with reassuring you, mumbling sweet nothings in an attempt to make you feel better.
“It will take forever,”
“The time will pass anyway,” she drawled out a soft chuckle, fingers neatly brushing your hair from your forehead — her words resonating with a part of your being.
The time will pass anyway. It both electrified and frightened you, the strength of those simple words carrying such a thoughtful meaning. It meant you would learn to bounce back just like your trampoline.
“And when did you get so wise, huh?” you whimpered with a snicker coming out along through the remaining sobs as you looked up from her chest. Nose sniffling while your heaving chest slowly rose back to a normal pace.
“Learnt from the best,” her tone teased you to escalate your mood higher, pinching your cheek with her fingers to which you only playfully winced.
“I love you,” her straightforward gesture of platonic affection charmed a weak smile to your lipd. Leaving you to repeat her words after bringing her into a tight embrace.
Meanwhile Satoru Gojo stood still underneath the stairs leading up to the top of the tower, tucked safely in the shadows as he quietly listened on the scene playing out. He should’ve left, shouldn’t have eavesdropped, however, something within him kept him glued to the spot. His fists were clenched since it was clear what this was about. Everyone saw the jerk parading his new partner days after your split, when some still not aware of it. Him included. Major part of him felt sort of relieved that you got rid off the bad influence masked in sheep’s clothing, smaller part of him was sorry for you. And the tiniest part of him spiralled with thrill as well, ecstatic he was right all along. Nonetheless, he knew you would live on due to having such friends by your side. You were in good hands.
Satoru Gojo did some of his best decisions in the upcoming days, he let his grades drop to ease the pressure he had been giving you. Allowing you to rest up, not having you all worked over stupid grades which didn’t matter to him anyway.
He did one other thing he was pleased with, one the white haired menace felt entitled to doing.
You weren’t supposed to be in the audience when the spring season of quidditch kicked off with Gryffindors playing up against Slytherin. The first match of the second semester. You decided to miss out on it. The wound was still after all too raw and could be torn open by the imagine of your ex partner flawlessly fleeting through the sky. But Arabella bursted into your shared room with urgency, which was rarely shown in her behaviour, dragging you to the match anyway regardless of your protests. You couldn’t stay locked away from the outside world, rotting in your bed forever and it was her goal to remind you of the little things you loved so dearly. So there you were, watching the players warming up for the actual match. A pang of nostalgia suffocated your heavy heart, meanwhile the Slytherin’s captain, Satoru Gojo, already prepared in his position.
The game established a clear winner in the first half of the game. Gryffindor struck a point after point because of the hurried and impatient pace the Slytherin’s obtained, lacking their witty and precise play-style. The captain of the team itself seemed to be off, you took a notice of their inadequacy. For the first time in a century you chose to be on the Slytherin’s side, praying they would leave Gryffindor bitting the dust and it turned out your favour was meaningless.
Your ex boyfriend fulfilled his position of a beater well, pushing the Blugders away from his teammates to save them from being knocked down. Satoru restored to his calm behaviour as he and his team kept losing, still, he was aware of the urge in his chest to let go of the restrictions all too well. And he was, oh, so close to snapping at the sight of a flashy smile belonging to the beater of Gryffindor, your idiotic ex boyfriend.
When the reality of having nothing to lose washed over him, the grip on his morals slipped and he allowed himself to clash into a one particular player of the opposite team. Moulding it to look like an accident the first time, the second time was suspicious but could still be passed on as unintentional. However, the third time justified his actions were spot on, non accidental at all. He lunged into him, nearly knocking him down to the ground, which your ex didn’t let slide that easily. The game rooting with corruption at their attempts at one another. The captain of Slytherin was disgustingly clever, flying lower than a normal player would as he knew the beater of Gryffindor would follow.
You rose from your seat in the audience, rushing down the stairs to look down over the railing. When you did, your ex partner was on the ground lying on his back with the white haired starlet straddling him. Fists flying his way down, crushing against the side of his face. Even up from the tower you could see the blood seeping out of your ex partner’s mouth. He fought back, kicking arms and legs in the process of trying to get Satoru off him. It did him no good, he eventually stopped fighting and took it until his teammates rushed down to tear them apart.
The Slytherins were disqualified from the game all due to the acts of their captain. A first win of the season falling Gryffindor’s way. And Satoru Gojo was banned from playing for two weeks.
Next time you found yourself in the air up against Slytherin, you couldn’t pass on the opportunity to fly over to the white haired disaster before the start of the match. Sensing it was right to address the situation even though you weren’t hundred percent sure the picked up fight wasn’t a coincidence. But since the poor guy ended up with a broken nose, curiosity got the better out of you.
“You shouldn’t have,” you empathised the words, hinting at the meaning but not saying it out fully. Strands of hair flew across your face due to the mild spring breeze as you spoke up despite the tight grip of the hair tie holding it in a ponytail, his hair moving in a similar mesmerising way.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he shrugged as he glanced down your way, discarding look written over his features which signalled you to go away.
“The fight-“ you proceeded to be instantly cut off.
“I was merely playing the game and protecting myself, don’t get ahead of yourself ” he frowned, voice laced with his usual overbearing arrogance which brought regret into your system in no time.
“Right,” you breathed out awkwardly but firmly, eyes unable to maintain eye contact as you weren’t sure how to react. You flew away on your broomstick without any further declaration, turning your overthinking off throughout the duration of the match.
Even so, the season of fresh beginnings, renewal and growth didn’t bring fruition at all. Quite the opposite, the world’s righteousness faltered and rotted away with the evil spreading and rising in numbers. The agenda against muggles, wizards mixing with non wizards and muggleborn wizards sparking controversy in the wizard world of politics. It alarmed you as your mother was undoubtedly a target to take down, her position at the Ministry of magic holding a powerful hand of cards. And as soon as the professors initiated any warnings or speeches during lessons, you sensed something ugly covering the world into its beguiling covers.
“We are entering dark times, children, so it’s important for you to know how to defend against your deepest fears” a professor responsible for the defence against dark arts pulled you and your classmates into an older class sitting at one of the highest peaks of Hogwarts for a special occasion.
“The Boggart sitting in the darkness within the wardrobe has not yet assumed a form. He does not yet know what will frighten the person on the other side of the door. Nobody knows what a Boggart looks like when he is alone, but when I let him out, he will immediately become whatever each of us most fears,” he spoke carefully about the extant being hidden behind the wooden door.
“Each one of you will try your luck. The key to the spell of Riddikulus is to phantom a funny imagine as a defence, which makes the Boggart take an official form of what you thought about,” he goes on with explaining the spell.
“Anyone up to go first?” the professor suggested lightly which earned him only one hand raised into the air. A hand of the exceptional young wizard with hair the shade of picturesque snow.
He confidently stepped up in front of the wardrobe, elm wood wand with dragon heartstring at its core stretching out at overwhelming 14.5inches in his hand, ready to preform the spell. An unfounded belief that only pure-bloods can produce magic from elm wands circled the wood of the wand he was holding. The truth is that elm wands prefer owners with presence, magical dexterity and a certain native dignity. Of all wand woods, elm produces the fewest accidents, the least foolish errors, and the most elegant charms and spells — these are sophisticated wands, capable of highly advanced magic in the right hands, which makes it highly desirable to those who espouse the pure-blood philosophy. The core, a dragon heartstring produces wands with the most power, and which are capable of the most flamboyant spells. Wands paired with Dragon heartstrings tend to learn more quickly than other types. While they can change allegiance if won from their original master, they always bond strongly with the current owner. The cunning dragon wand tends to be easiest to turn to the Dark Arts, though it will not incline that way of its own accord. It is also the most prone of the three cores to accidents, being somewhat temperamental. And Satoru fitted the picture of the typical wielded of the wand for sure. Just about to find out which direction he would head in.
As the handle of the wardrobe swinged the door open, immense coldness wrapped around you like a cloak while your stomach turned over with nausea. Satoru, the usual radiant and carefree young man found himself facing a mirror instead of a notorious beast, reflecting his beauty. Pair of the same lucent eyes staring back at him. He felt his heart pace quicken against the press of his ribs. Pure logic spilled from his brain, leaving him baffled as he watched the mirror starting to crack. The painful sound of screeching glass echoing through the quiet classroom where the fall of a head-pin could be heard.
“Riddikulus,” he called out after what had felt like an eternity, leaving your breath caught somewhere in between your throat and lungs. The Boggart transformed right away into a tiny music box, letting out funky tunes. Quiet classmates watching erupted in cheers suddenly, daring to pat him on his back for being successful. In spite of his cool and nonchalant demeanour, a part of him felt bare to the rest of the world at that precise moment.
You watched the people ahead of you in the line conquer the Boggart without a hiss of panic. And when it finally came to your turn, you hesitantly pulled out your 103/4 inch wand, gripping it tightly as you signalled for the professor to open the door once more. Vine wands are among the less common types, and their owners are nearly always those witches or wizards who seek a greater purpose, who have a vision beyond the ordinary and who frequently astound those who think they know them best. Vine wands seem strongly attracted by personalities with hidden depths, being more sensitive than any other type when it comes to detecting a prospective match. And wands with Phoenix feathers at its core, the rarest one, are capable of the greatest range of magic, though they may take longer than either unicorn or dragon cores to reveal this. They show the most initiative, sometimes acting of their own accord, a quality that many witches and wizards dislike. Phoenix feather wands are always the pickiest when it comes to owners, for the creature from which they are taken is one of the most independent and detached in the world. These wands are the hardest to tame and to personalise, and their allegiance is usually hard won. But you managed, the wand picking you for a reason in that shop all those years ago, leaving you to wonder what that reason is.
Second later you gasped when everyone including the professor got devoured by the darkness spreading around you, the now familiar chilliness embracing you like a tight hug. You twirled in each direction, sensing a presence within the spreads of the dark desperate to inch closer. You cursed silently under your breath, senses numbed by the anxiety and terror as you found yourself swallowed by the darkness. Your fingers tightened around the wand before lifting it into the air. Twisting it in a simple movement as you casted the spell, recalling a heartfelt memory between you and your parents. The Boggart dissolved into a plump orange cat which used to run around your neighbourhood when you were little, the mews of the animal sounding a little too similar to snorting . You averted your gaze to find all eyes were on you. A pair of machiavellian orbs amongst them.
At the end of the school year, all students from every year were gathered in the Great hall as an emergency was put together by the headmaster last minute. Everyone was wearing their summer clothing as the belongings were already secured safely in the awaiting train, ready to depart for the break.
“As you all know by now, our world is heading towards evil. I shouldn’t speak any of this to you, but I refuse to leave you in the dark. Invisible forces are toying with us to see how far they can go before they make themselves material, showing their faces to the world. I advise you to be safe during your summer, and bear in mind that we’re entering the making of history. See you all in the new school year,” the headmaster’s voice lined with fondness, bringing the words out with care and gentleness. You felt petrified as you listened, goosebumps appearing on your body. Nothing would ever be the same. You knew then, all was about to fall over the brim of change.
Satoru kept his expression neutral, not daring to let his facade slip. A gathering evil, a gathering evil he was part of. Numbness stored in his chest as gasps filled the Great Hall, hushed whispers of the younger fellow students heard in the distance. The world might have been on the undeniable turn for the worse, but so was he. He was in front of a crossroad. The thing which could stop him from submerging into the darkness stood a couple of feet away from the boy, a taste of the sun. One would never know, because the stubborn wizard would refuse to go against his family for something so fragile and unpredictable, that is if he even gathered the courage to acknowledge the goodness swirling through him whenever he saw you.
And just like fireworks receding into the night, you both felt your innocent youth slipping through your fingers like water, for two very different reasons.

The Jedi Order: a different view
From what I can tell the overwhelming majority of fannish content regarding the Jedi, their Order, and their Temple, relies solely on content from the now-discontinued Legends.
I understand the urge since it gives fans a veritable feast of trauma and whump for Obi-Wan and can help underscore the belief that Anakin was a misunderstood, maligned pariah who was never good enough for anyone in the Order.
However. It does get a little... tiresome after a while. Oh, people do some incredible and cool things to try and "fix" the Order, but they still start with the belief that the Order needs fixing. I wanted to ignore all that and start fresh.
Right! So! I'll focus on the Jedi on Coruscant, since they're the most relevant to the picture. I'll also start with the Temple itself, since it IS where everyone lives.
THE TEMPLE
The Temple was founded millennia ago and has been building on ever since in an effort to keep up with the growth of the city around them. I'd be tempted to base that at ground level, or the nearest equivalent. Given how high up Coruscant has now become, that implies layers upon layers upon layers, and of course they aren't going to add one level at a time, it'll be multiples.
I would absolutely love to see some archaeology-focused stuff. Jedi explorers delving deeper and deeper into the Temple's depths, discovering lost and forgotten histories, artifacts, art, books, etc. And also notes from previous Jedi archaeologists who also delved down.
With that in mind I've decided that the "Room of a Thousand Fountains" is a vast misnomer. The Temple Gardens extend downward, encompassing previous Gardens and lovingly maintained not only by the Agricorp (who aren't limited to just crops), but also bunches of Jedi, outside gardeners, and of course specialists for the different regions/biomes. There are plants in the Temple that have gone extinct everywhere else in the universe (credit to RoosjeM's Temporary Temple Guards for making me think of this possibility).
The point is, the Gardens are ENORMOUS. There are fixes and workarounds for the issues of sunlight, and I imagine there's a water reclamation/sanitation/whatever system in place to make sure everything (and everyone) stays as hydrated as necessary. I betcha there are secret depths to the Archives, too. Maybe museums full of ancient starships that regrettably had to be walled up whenever the surrounding city got too tall.
Jedi come from nearly every sapient species imaginable, and some of them have specific environmental needs. I know I've seen plenty of fics where Plo Koon's quarters are specially sealed so he can breathe his homeworld's atmosphere and not need to worry about goggles and an anti-ox mask. I think it'd be more interesting if there were entire sections dedicated to (or easily converted to) different atmospheres. This is easier and a lot more convenient when, say, there are multiples of a species in the Temple. Sure, individual room conversions can be done, too, but having a whole mini "neighborhood" of your fellow [species] can be nice as well. Walk freely. Chat with neighbors unencumbered. Enjoy meals together. Communal stuff like that.
I also love the idea of water-filled corridors for the aquatic types. Like that one comic panel that showed naked Kit Fisto happily swimming by on his way to somewhere else. Maybe an underwater training salle so the aquatics can learn how to fight/use their sabers in those conditions.
Dining areas would also be spread throughout the Temple, with some being "generic" fare to feed a wide variety of the most common species and others having a more specific focus, both in terms of species and cuisine types. Open-access kitchen areas for those who want to cook their own food, but not in their own kitchen (MUCH better ventilation in the public spaces, for starters). Also vending machines and automats for those on the go. (This shows up in K_R_Closson's All the Roads We Walk Are Winding and was goddamn genius.)
THE JEDI
In my version of things, the Jedi are much more considerate than fandom generally depicts.
A Jedi can never "age out." While allowances can be made if someone with basic control skills wants to leave, or if they want to find their own path when they reach their species level of majority, no one is ever forced onto the streets or "dumped" into a place not of their own choosing.
When an Initiate enters the Temple the biggest themes they are taught are "Community" and "Choice." Community means that they will always have a home in the Temple, no matter what. They can leave and come back if they choose. There are no legitimate mistakes that can get you thrown out. Failing a class, or multiple classes, doesn't mean you don't belong, it means that you need a more tailored learning experience to help you reach your goals.
Starting at an early age, crèche clans are taken on a "tour" of the various service branches; each one maintains a presence within the Temple itself, not only to maintain connections with the Jedi as a whole, but also to make communicating their needs (to the Jedi, to the Senate, to various interests) easier. And there is always at least one person available to chat about what it is their branch does. I did a whole separate post exploring how varied the Service Corps could be.
As the initiates grow older, they're encouraged to do a work/study thing that matches with their interests and gives them a better taste for what a particular field is like. This can, and usually is, done many times so an Initiate can find the best fit. And if they can't find a good fit, that's fine, too; there's no time limit on choosing a career. In fact it isn't uncommon for a Jedi to switch paths, either within an individual branch (Consular to Sentinel) or an entirely different discipline (Seeker in ExplorCorp to Crèche Master in the Educorp).
The point is, there are always choices available. It isn't shameful to not be a Knight. In fact it's expected that most will choose paths that don't involve a lot of political juggling and aggressive negotiations (although politics do creep into every field).
The whole mess with the Jedi being beholden to the Galactic Senate is a bucket of eels I'm not willing to handle at the moment, but I figure this is a good start to pinning down my ideas and I may venture back if I think of anything else.

In my works I often delve into themes such as pregnancies, abortions and parenting and Idk who needs to ear this, but I woke up with the visceral NEED to say a couple of things about it all:
I was born in an extremely religious country in which, strangely enough, abortion was legalised fairly early on. This doesn't actually mean it's easy to access to it, because of society's views on it, that trickle down on gynaecologists as well. About 70% of gynaecologists in my country consider themselves conscientious objectors, which means it is basically impossible to access voluntary interruption of pregnancy, except if the woman's life is at risk (or if you pay a shit ton of money in a private clinic, money that, often enough, one doesn't have). This (sadly) doesn't mean we receive any kind of sex Ed in schools (no, not even the crappy kind often showed in films) or any real help/guarantees for new parents, so basically you just have to pray that the condom won't break, because it's near impossible to actually have an abortion and you have almost zero support if you actually decide to keep an unplanned baby. That said my country is now also trying to make those laws even more restrictives (ex banning abortive pills, prediliging the hiring of doctors, nurses and anestheticians who are C.O.etc.), hiding the way our governement tries to rule over women's bodies behind our rapidly decreasing fertility rate.
One summer, while I was still in high school, me and my friends had to drive for over ten hours to reach the only region of my country where the objectors rate it's lower than 15% because one of my friends couldn't wait two months for the only gynaecologist who performed it in our area.
I was the only other girl in my friend group and, at my friend's request, I stayed with her the whole time. It was a traumatic experience, even not being the one having to undergo the procedure. Half of the nurses treated her like dirt and one of the counsellors (that are hired to help women or, more in general, people with a female reproductive system, in this kind of situations) started ranting about hell and damnation, while gripping my friend's wrist so hard it bruised. I literally had to pry the woman away from my friend and to throw her out, and I only managed to do so when I threatened to press charges.
While I always knew on an abstract level that in other countries, countries extremely close to my own, having access to abortion (or even to a morning after pill) was easy, easier than in my home country and decisely less frowned upon, it was all just news for me and I never really paid it much attention.
Then I left my country and studied abroad for a while and, during this time period, I met my partner. A couple of years later I discovered I was pregnant and I panicked. I was scared shitless because while I love kids, I hadn't planned on having one back then (or even now, to be honest). Even then I thought about it. If I decided to keep the baby I would have had actual support from the institutions, both economical and time-wise so my choice was actually mine and mine alone, not influenced by a frightening lack of resources.
I decided not to continue the pregnancy. I went to the clinic with my boyfriend and the procedure was quick, painless and nobody tried to make me rethink anything by guilt-tripping me with tales of eternal damnation.
I never felt any kind of guilt about it while living there. Nobody was forcing down my troath pro-life Ads or picketing the clinic when I went to do a check up specifically meant for people who had had a "traditional" abortion.
Even now, when I think about a traumatizing abortion, I don't think about mine, but my friend's.
Even now, when I see my nephews or my little cousines faces I don't ever regret having walked into that clinic.
Even then, the tinge of guilt in me resurfaces, sometimes, now that I live in my home country. A tinge of guilt I can't really explain, because I was lucky enough to be raised in a pro-choice familial enviroment. A tinge of guilt I shouldn't feel, because it was my choice (as it should always be) and I don't regret it.
What I am trying to say is that, even if you don't know it there IS a right way to do things and we should all fight to make them available to the largest number of people we can.
Religious guilt is never gonna be the answer.
My country tried to make it as such.
Now our fertility rate is at an all-time low from which I don't think we will ever recover and there are whole generations of women literaly terryfied of falling pregnant, because they do they are gonna lose their jobs and everything they worked for in their lives, without the possibility of actually making a choice on their bodies.
Religious guilt is never gonna be the answer, the possibility of chosing in authonomy for your body and for your future is.

Anakin Assists the Jedi Council While On Medical Leave
AU brainstormed primarily by @atagotiak, @gelpenss, and myself.
Basically, a fix-it based in Anakin getting a peek into the daily life on the Council early, and accidentally Figuring Some Shit Out along the way, mostly because Palps Fucks Up.
So, Anakin gets injured in a way that limits him to Coruscant for a few weeks. He can still walk and talk, but he can't fight. The specific injury doesn't matter, just this:
Anakin runs errands on behalf of the council and sits in on meetings to take minutes as a "you're on medical leave but we need all hands on deck, congrats you get to be the secretary until we can send you on stabbing missions again" thing.
Also, there just aren't a whole lot of people with Anakin's clearance level. They had to send out Stass Allie to handle the mission that was originally next on Anakin's roster, and Anakin's the most convenient person to substitute into her position.
He's not super happy about this but he can more or less understand the point of it. Given that he gets antsy about needing to fight almost immediately, he can acknowledge the worth of having something useful to do, if only as the person who's writing down who says what and making sure everyone has the right file on hand.
(Besides, Obi-Wan jokes in a way that Anakin thinks might be encouraging, this is good practice if Anakin ever wants to be on the High Council himself!)
(This is a very helpful conversation.)
BASICALLY, Anakin is resigned to this but agrees because "Usually we have Master Allie handle this but we need her running that mission that was originally set for the 501st, so you get to fill in for her until you can switch back. Think of it as training for eventual mastery or admin or--listen, we're just really stretched thin."
Here's the key thing, though: Anakin isn't supposed to leave the Temple, for medical reasons, so Palpatine doesn't know Anakin is sitting in on Council meetings. They haven't met up since Anakin's last surgery, and because [muffled hand-wave reason] he didn't find out another way, like Anakin comming him or the Council giving him the heads-up about the change in attendance.
It's fine. He's just taking notes and doing preparatory research, he has the clearance, the Chancellor likes him anyway. Hell, they'd have had someone's Padawan doing this, before the war increased the necessary clearance levels. They'll toss in a quick message in the brief they send to Palps that he never reads anyway, and that's really all they need to do. Skywalker's getting some rounded experience and this way the medics won't be freaking out about him stressing his heart after getting electrocuted by trying to spar too early.
Palpatine doesn't talk directly to the Council, he just sends a recording the first time Anakin is there. It's a bit weird, but nothing goes wrong. Anakin's off-screen from whatever device they use to send a response, since he's not technically a member, just assisting for a bit on the part of Master Allie's duties that he's actually allowed to touch (and not the bits that are getting added to Mace, Plo, and Shaak's stuff).
The first four or so meetings are like that. Anakin starts having a bit of sympathy for the Council as he sees how many things they want to do that are hampered by the need for Senatorial approval, things that he would also want to do and didn't think required this much red tape.
About a week in, still mostly recordings with Anakin just sitting on the side playing paralegal, the wheel of fortune turns a few pegs.
Palpatine hands over a an order on the range of injury that a soldier should be treated for, "to ensure that republic resources aren't being wasted on clones that, while expensive, would actually be cheaper to replace than repair."
Oh, he dresses it up in prettier language than that. Anakin doesn't process it as such first.
The Chancellor manages to couch his phrasing in "prioritizing resources for taxpaying republic citizens and employees of the GAR," which... well.
The natborn commissioned officers pay taxes. The Jedi are employees. The clones are neither, because they're slaves.
Probably he frames it as the employees thing, very much the kinda language that sounds halfway ok unless you’re fluent in political bullshit.
And Anakin is really confused at first about why the council is upset by the order because, okay, he would PREFER to be able to use medical supplies on refugees when possible, but he understands prioritizing the soldiers?
He just looks up, totally lost, when someone groans and goes, "That's the third time this year, is he trying to get us all killed?"
And it vibes as such a genuine, aggrieved, sad reaction that Anakin is completely blindsided because it's not the sarcastic, petty resentment he kind of expected? It's just... desperate depression.
And someone gently has to explain that this is the third time they've had resources restricted to only GAR employees and that it's a polite way of saying "prioritize natborn officers, stop wasting resources on clones, we can replace them easier."
Or maybe he doesn't ask, because he's just there to take notes, not argue, and he can see the masters drawing up a response that amounts to "We would like to remind you that our soldiers do not fall into that classification, and to limit their access to our medical supplies is liable to cause a loss of life that we find unreasonably high. Please see the annotations attached to adjust wording so that the clones may receive the same level of care."
Anakin's internally just like "Yeah, that's phrased nice and addresses the main problem, Palpatine will obviously agree and change it!"
And then he comes in the next day and the response comes in and it's just dripping condescension about considering the clones actual people.
"This is why we can't use the bacta tanks on clones anymore, just the patches. We could use them at first, we had a few of the CCs get through fatal injuries with them, but they cut that off and said we could only use the tanks on Jedi and non-clone officers a few months ago. The Banking Clans keep tightening their belts on the army, and the Chancellor insists we put citizens first, and the clones aren't citizens. We've been arguing back as much as we can, but he keeps going on about the economy and we can't... we just can't, Skywalker. We're trying to save as many of our men as we can, but..."
Something like "Allocation of resources reiterated, the Kaminoans have assured the senate that the Jedi are far from exhausting the resources ordered."
And Anakin's like. He can't blame the council for lying about Palpatine's past or future actions. He just saw Palpatine's actions. Those actions were to order people under his control to throw away lives he saw as replaceable commodities.
These are his friends' lives.
His soldiers are being thrown away by a man in a tower that he trusted.
And then that man has the gall to suggest it's the council's fault.
Palpatine is good at what he does, especially in public, he dresses it up in flowery language and everything, but Anakin's just like "Those are my FRIENDS and also this is??? How slavers talked about their property on Tatooine???? FRIENDPATINE, WHAT THE FUCK."
Anakin can be passive aggressive sometimes as well as outright aggressive. So if he brings up the guidelines and why they make him upset in general terms, and Palpatine says something about how he’s sad the council doesn’t care about the clones...
Anakin, internally, having just watched the council scramble to save as many clones as possible within the guidelines that Palps handed down: Uh-huh.
(Anakin is just the gay horror teeth gif from queer eye.)
Tumblr media
Just. “Yeah, funny you say that, Palpatine! Because as I remember, you told the council not to waste more resources than necessary while Mace Windu was arguing to expand the treatment range!”
Palps doesn't even have time to salvage the situation or attack Anakin because Anakin just bulldoze rants for fifteen minutes and then storms out.
Anakin... maybe does a little treason and gets a copy of the orders so he can ask Padme "Hey, can you explain the politics of this?" and doesn't tell her who wrote it so she isn't biased (he tells her that this is why he's not sharing the author's/speaker's name), and just lets Padme pick apart all the 'this is a nice way of saying they don't view the clones as people' details.
Alternately, someone on the Council sees Anakin dithering and manages to get him to admit that he's not great at political language and wants to ask someone to help him understand the full implications. The person--Mace? let's go with Mace--is aware that Anakin is on good terms with Senator Amidala, if not necessarily aware of the depth of said relationship. Mace points out that he's probably going to be seeing her soon just because he usually does and, as a Senator, she can get easy access to these sessions since they're not about specific missions, just allocation of resources, etc. It's not an optimal solution, but she's got a bit more free time than anyone else Anakin knows with the clearance levels, like Order members that are actively involved in the war effort.
Anakin dithers and panics and Mace, trying to be helpful, tells him that plenty of Jedi have made friends among the Senate over the years, didn't you know Qui-Gon Jinn was a personal friend of Former Chancellor Valorum?
At any rate, Anakin goes to Padme and asks her to explain it to him, because she knows how to phrase things so he gets it.
Anakin has to have her pause and he goes outside and destroys some things halfway through.
(Anakin maybe thinks back to the times Padmé or Obi-Wan were really obviously frustrated and when he asked, they said stuff like “I can’t stand Palpatine rn, sorry Anakin I know he’s important to you and you don’t want to talk about politics, let’s just talk about something else.”)
(Obi-Wan: I don’t trust Palpatine Anakin: you just don’t like politicians in general Obi-Wan: yes that is also true)
(Obi-Wan does like Bail and Padme but he does also talk a bit about how politicians generally aren’t to be trusted.)

Waking Up Next to Him
Masterlist
Set platonically and within the adventure. It’s long so it goes under the cut!
Time
The bright sunlight winked just beyond your eyelids at an blinding angle. Your back was against warm though and was surprisingly comfortable despite the growing ache in your neck. There’s a weight over your shoulder, pinning you in place but doesn’t dig in. A thrown blanket is covering your body and the secret weight, even if half of it has ended up on the forest floor. You’re too tired to think of what the weight can be. All you know is that it’s comfortable and you don’t feel like moving. A heartbeat passes and the solid form on which you lay shifts.
A groan.
More shifting.
Heat flushes your face slightly as you resign to get up, trying to play the whole cool, once you realize what, or rather who you passed out against.
“Mornin’ Time.”
Your pillow takes a minute to assess the situation.
It’s early, none of the others are up yet. Too tired from the journey the day prior, but the resident chef wakes up the earliest to cook breakfast on time. He’s asleep now but won’t be for long. You thank the stars and your luck that you woke up before him. No pictures for him to take this time.
Time grins, seemingly unbothered by the events and sighs good naturedly. “Good morning.”
Twilight
It was a cold night. They told you it would be. Both your traveling companions and the breeze as you settled with the day’s end.
But you couldn’t have guessed how cold it turned out to be.
Sleep didn’t come easy. Discomfort and shivers kept you awake. Your blankets were warm but not warm enough. At some point, in the middle of the night, you gain the warmth your tired brain was waiting for before drifting off to sleep.
When you wake, you can’t breath.
Hairs tickle your mouth and nose and there’s a large and heavy being on top of you. At first you think it’s Wind because the shape is much to large to be four but smaller than some of your other companions.
Further analysis and you realize that it’s not hair but fur, that’s threating to enter your lungs and the color of the material seems awfully familiar.
“...Wolfie, I love you but you’re killing me. Get off.” You weakly push the beast away, not coherent enough to move your limbs and piece together how to be a functioning human yet.
The creatures blinks up at you, having just woken up as well and notices your open eyes. A yawn and crushed ribbed where he stepped to get off later and your freedom has been duel earned.
You take a breath of relief and grin, only now noticing the cold with the rising sun to be a little more barrable than the previous night.
“Thanks buddy, you’re a walking heater. I probably would have been a popsicle if it hadn’t been for you.” He nods in acknowledgment and swiftly turns away before you can reach behind his ears to thank him properly.
You look up and see Wild and Time already awake, not talking. Warrior looks to just have woken like you today. Not unusual but welcoming nonetheless. Wind and Sky probably won’t wake up for another hour or two and Hyrule and Four always wake up a little after them. No one knows for sure when Legend will get up because its never consistent and Twilight seems to be missing as well.
The ranch hand emerges from the tree line seconds after you realize he was gone to begin with. He smiles at you and waves in greeting.
You wave back and try to dust the wolf hairs off of your clothes.
You missed Twilight’s subtle smirk.
Warrior
It was a hard fight and not a safe place to stay put but the dungeon left you with little option. Separated from the group and low on provisions and healing items, you and Warrior realize that your both running low on fumes. Taking refuge in a secluded corner, hopefully far away from any potential monsters and threats, you rest.
Waking up is hell.
Sleeping back to back was probably not the best idea but neither of you wanted to risk an ambush. Shifts were supposed to be taken but given that you both fell asleep says something about your energy levels and the previous fights.
Your neck hurts, your legs are sore, your butt and hips are not thanking you for the treatment and everything ache will familiar but expected battle wounds. None major but each one takes its toll.
“You up?” Warrior stands up as if he wasn’t bleeding from the shoulder yesterday and he also didn’t sleep sitting for who knows how many hours.
“I am clearly sitting Captain.” You mutter. “I am not up. I refuse to be up.”
“You know as well as I do that we have to get to the others. What if they need help?”
“I’d argue we need the help. Everything hurts. We have no fairies and there’s more dungeon ahead of us with obviously more enemies and traps and puzzles...” The puzzles... were the worst. “Just five more minutes....Please?”
Warrior says your name in a way a tired mother tries to get her stubborn child to listen to reason. His face twists at the idea and when he attempts to look over his shoulder to check your surroundings, it instead contorts in a pained grimace.
So his shoulder pain was still there after all.
“Fine. Five minutes.”
Sky
As expected, Sky goes down for the count within the first few minutes of the mandated lunch break. Unfortunately after a rumble or two and strange smoke coming from the distance that decidedly wasn’t there when you first arrived, the group decided to investigate.
Legend goes to shake Sky’s shoulder in an attempt to wake him but it’s all in vain.
Sticks are drawn after a long and loud argument about what to do and yours in the shortest.
Everyone else goes to check out the commotion and you are stuck with babysitting duty. It’s not bad all things considered- he’s asleep- no actual babysitting happening. But part of you can help but grumble about missing the action so you sit non too gently next to him and decidedly not pout.
Your stomach is full and the sun light begins to feel heavy and warm and nice.
Your eyes close before you can fight it.
Some time later, you’re shaken awake. Adrenaline fills your system instantly but upon seeing the laughing face of Sky himself, you remember yourself and only marginally resist the urge punch him.
“Feel better?” You ask instead.
“I could ask you the same thing.” He chuckles and points to his chin.
You wipe across the area and your hands comes back wet, cold and covered in drool.
“You saw nothing.”
“Oh sure, but Wind did.”
Great.
Now it’s on his pictobox. That’s blackmail material in his favor, you suppose and refuse to acknowledge it further.
Wild
When you wake up, it’s still dark. Not even close to sunrise.
The fire burns bright and warm throughout the area but it’s not the fire that’s keeping you warm.
You also find out you can’t move.
You crane your head slightly to find long hair draped over your shoulder and a familiar scarred ear belonging to the resident champion.
He wrapped around you completely, hugging you tightly and pining you down with a leg to boot.
You attempt to shimmy out but his grip tightens instead.
You sighed and watch as Twilight comes into view. He crouches closer and squats on Wild’s side, whispering to you. “Do you need help getting out? I can wake him to take over Hyrule’s shift for the night.”
You take a minute to rethink about your position. It’s not painful. The opposite actually. It feel nice. You’ve seen Wild cling to who ever he can get his hands on when he sleeps so you’re not surprise.
You don’t need to pee or leave anytime soon anyway.
“No, I think I’m good actually.” You reply, whispering as well. “Let him sleep, it’s been a day for everyone.”
Twilight nods and leaves, but not without looking back once or twice in case you changed your mind.
You shimmy back in place and allow yourself to be held by your friend.
Sleep comes easier this time.
Hyrule
Gentle fingers card through your hair. Warmth, magic and the unusual feeling of safety plague your mind. Confusion hits you but the alarm that typically follows never comes.
“Oh thank goodness, you’re awake.” A voice fills your ears. It’s muffled and must have been quiet to begin with because you can’t make out who said it yet.
Organizing your thoughts feels like traveling through knee high mud.
Your eyes blink open and the light comes through.
The Traveler is leaning over you, thankfully blocking out most of the sun from immediately assaulting you.
“Hyrule?”
“You had us worried for a minute.” He visually sags with relief, a tired smile on his face and leans back. “You took quite a hit.”
Your head feels swollen but as Hyrule continues to push your hair back it dissipates as time passes. Your thoughts clear and with his help, you sit up.
A hand places itself by your temple. It takes a half second before you realize it’s yours.
It comes back covered in dried blood.
Sky runs over after tending to Four with what looks like a bloodied wet cloth. He sits down slowly and begins to clean your head in a familiar fashion.
“Thank you. Both of you.” You tired voice comes through and a worn out smile follows soon after.
“Anytime.”
Wind
It’s nice day.
According to some people.
Dark clouds cover the sky, the sun nowhere to be seen. It pours cats and dogs and the only cover for miles is a lone cave where your group currently takes up residence. Everyone’s wet and your clothes feel heavy and cold. No one is happy.
Wild, Twilight and Legend dive deeper, intending to check out if any monsters reside in the cave.
Hyrule insisted on traveling with them but Warrior’s concussion and Time’s bleeding leg call for further attention and Legend claims to have more magic restorative potions than healing potions.
He stays behind.
Four and Sky take over the food while he’s distracted, trying to make a half decent meal before he intervenes.
Wind is groaning, sore and bored but otherwise unharmed.
You don’t make any comments at your own pain, biting your tongue and taking a deep breath. As you lean against the stone wall, Wind stomps up next to you and sits down with purpose.
“I could’ve gone with them.” He slams his fist into his cheek with his elbow on his knee.
“But you didn’t. It’s not so bad.” You said.
“They didn’t want me to go.”
“You’ll live.”
“I’m just as good as them you know.”
“I know and you make a better pillow.” You says, throwing yourself sideways with your head landing on his lap. He squawks indignantly and attempts to push you off but you hold on. “Sorry, you make the best pillow.”
“NOOOO!”
“YEEEESSS!”
“Nooooo.” Wind keeps his hands on your back but you’ve misjudged your exhaustion. You’re out in seconds.
A moment passes.
“Hey, hey, hey.... wake up. You have to eat.” A small hand shakes your shoulder.
“Hm?” You blinked tiredly. There’s a bowl if front of your face and you don’t hesitate to grab it. “Thanks.”
“You’re heavy.” A voice calls from behind. The owner lets you take the bowl and begins to gently push you off into a sitting position. “I can’t believe you did that.”
“It was supposed to be a joke but thanks for letting me sleep.” You admit and smile at the pirate.
“You trapped me.” He pokes your side, trying to look annoyed but falling flat. There’s a joke in there somewhere. You’re missing something.
The others have come back while you were out of it, all either have hidden smiles or failing to hide their shaking shoulders and snickers.
Curious and a little self conscious you looks into the provided meal, your reflection greeting you as always.
A lightbulb goes off over your head.
“DID YOU DRAW ON MY FACE?!”
Four
There’s a force dragging you down but there’s two arms under you.
It’s very concerning for a moment but then....the size of them catches up to you.
Your head snaps up and comes face to face with a very surprised Four.
“Hello.”
“...Hi.”
“Lovely weather we’re having, don’t you think?””
“You’re leading with that?” Four snorts and continues walking, unbothered by your weight in his arms.
“How...?” You trail off trying to find the right words to explain what happening to you. You don’t feel any pain and nothing feels injured....but the lack of memories is a little concerning.
“How am I holding you?” Four smirks as he guesses incorrectly. “I’m stronger than I look.”
“I was going to ask how did I fall unconscious. I don’t remember anything. I’m more surprised by that than the fact that you’re holding me despite being half my size.” You blinked and try to keeping searching through your memory.
Nothing comes up.
“Wizrobe.” Four answers causally with a shrug. “It caused some chaos, fought another wizrobe and you got caught in the cross fire between the two of them before we could intervene. Their attacks canceled each other out well enough that you weren’t actually injured but uhh..... Well I suppose you’ll figure it out sooner or later.”
“Four.” You glare in warning.
“Maybe don’t look at your reflection for a while. Legend, Twilight and Hyrule all agree that it’ll fade with time but...”
“What are you talking about? What happened to me?” You sit up a little in his grip, Your arm reach over his shoulders and something wrong catches your eyes.
Your skin is green.
Your shocked silence stills your entire body. Four winces once he follows your eye line and stops to place you on your own feet.
“It could be worse?”
You stare a little while longer and look back to Four with hopeful eyes. “Think you can knock me out again?
He’s not amused.
Legend
You blissfully wake up for the first time in a week.
It’s been an easy week in terms of travel and attacks so the boys take it upon themselves to cause trouble and it hasn’t been merciful to your sleep schedule.
They are the very incarnation of that thing your hometown friend used to say. How did it go again? If there’s no trouble then I’ll create it? Something along those lines.
But this is different and you don’t plan on wasting it.
You close your eyes and attempt to go back to sleep while you can but hushed voices reached your ears, keeping you awake before you can tune them out.
“Should we wake them?”
“You know how Legend is. He can be as bad as Sky and he had a rough night to boot.”
“But he’s right on top of them and they promised to show me how to fight in hand to hand combat.”
“You have all day for that and they didn’t say it was going to be today.”
“But I‘m excited! I want to start as soon as possible.”
“Will you idiots keep it down?” A voice by your shoulder speaks up. It lacks the usual snark it posses but the intention for venom is there. “Some people took double shifts last night. Shut up.”
You breath a small sigh of relief as the voices abruptly cut off and don’t return for a long minute.
The body next to you stills.
Three heartbeats pass and the unnoticed weight gets off of you.
You pretend to be asleep still, not wanting him to push you away so early in your relationship. He’s just started to get used to you.
You’re determined to be his friend before everything ends.
He’s determined to avoid that.
It’s been a battle of wills.
An unstoppable force meets an unmovable object.
But this could tip the scales in his favor if you fail to play it off correctly.
“No one say anything.” Legend hisses. “Not. One. Word.”
You make the mistake of stretching.
“You’re up! You’re up! You’re up!” Wind practically pounces on you, knocking his name sake out of your lungs and demolishing any chances for a peaceful morning. “We can start now!”
“Can I eat first at least?” You groan out, not bothering to fight him off.
“Wind. Off.” Time calls out and the boy follows the command without question. He quickly kneels by your side though, practically vibrating on the spot.
You sit up and look around.
Looks like you were the last one up.
“Morning everybody.” You smile. You glance at Legend who unluckily has the tips of his ears tinted red. His arms are crossed and he’s avoiding looking at you, even greeting you as the rest of the group return your call.
You smirk. “Good morning Legend. Did you sleep well?”
He huffs and turns away completely, taking a few steps to leave.
You get to your feet, shadowed by Wind and head to take your share of the food from Wild.
A beat passes without any words exchanged and you tilted your head innocently at the Veteran. You refuse to let it be awkward between you so you pretend you know nothing.
The blush travels down his ears to his face and neck. “I did. Thanks for asking.”

The New Directions ranked by how much hatred for them baffles me
Reverse order to keep it interesting.
13. Finn
No surprise there. The combination of his questionable actions and the disturbing framing is enough to turn me into as much of an anti as I’ll ever be so how could I be surprised when people drag him.
12. Puck
People will never agree on how much an actor should influence how you view a character; I for one think it’s ‘as much as you want it to.’ Some will just never vibe with Puck and I respect that. His creepy in-universe moments don’t make it easier.
11. Artie
It would surprise me if someone has such strong feelings but truth is Artie didn’t get a ton and what he did get included being your local misogynist which wasn’t counterbalanced by a whole lot. Not that I don’t think he has plenty of likable qualities and he’s not all that polarizing but also not popular enough for me to be surprised about negative emotions.
10. Santana
Bet ya didn’t expect that, huh? Well, here I am as your local Santana stan saying that I’m not too surprised by those who happen to hate her. Part of it is expecting contrarians when a character is as popular as she is but part of it is just her occasional status as a villain that is bound to inspire haters. But, if I’m honest, I mostly think it’s contrarianism. Either way, not surprised when I see a strong push for “well but remember when she!!!”
9. Sam
The way his character changed over the years inspires at least some controversy and I feel like it’s easy to find people who are at least a little disgruntled with either version of him. Or people who just never liked him to begin with. Him being hailed as an unproblematic himbo can also inspire counterbalancing.
8. Blaine
We’re entering sort of baffling territory because, while I get why Blaine’s character could be annoying to some on certain levels I have seen levels of anti behaviour that I simply don’t get. Or I just don’t know enough about the intricacies of anti-Blaine reasonings.
7. Brittany
I think it’s easy to not take Brittany’s character as ~intended~ and when you apply a logic to her actions that simply wasn’t there in the writing itself, sure. It still confuses me when she’s treated as some sort of war criminal instead of comic relief and my own bias obviously doesn’t agree with it so I do find it confusing every now and then.
6. Quinn
With her story of many ups and downs and twists and turns she’s bound to be at least a little polarizing but I’ve seen people be so pissed at her, as if they were the not-so baby daddy she had tricked. Quinn will always be a traumatized teen in my eyes, with all her flaws, and it annoys me when people don’t at leats cut her some slack.
5. Rachel
You might think she’s too high on the list but it’s the result of the sheer vitriol the character faces from people who think disliking the central character is the ~cool~ thing to do. Rachel is an intentionally grating character and I get how that’s not endearing when the show loses sight of the point of her story every now and then but I simply don’t think she has any business being as polarizing as she is.
4. Tina
Similarly to Sam, the abrupt change in character was just a no-no for some but criticism against Tina tends to be so lazy I simply can’t give it the benefit of the doubt. “She’s just so annoying” is and has always been my least favourite sentence to hear about a character and I cannot, and will not understand it. What has she done against you?
3. Kurt
The fan favourite aspect, like with Santana, does come up but anti stuff also tends to be a bit more insidious, e.g. borderline or fully homophobic. If your big 2k22 Glee hot take is that Kurt was too much of a gay stereotype I think we’re all begging you to move on. Valid criticisms exist, of course, but the ones I tend to see also tend to be bs that baffles the mind.
2. Mike
It’s hard to rank Mike on any list. To be clear, wholehearted devotion and love confuses me just as much as ardent hatred because, like... what has he done? Seriously, Mike is just not enough of a character in canon to feel that strongly about. If you consider yourself a Mike anti, good for you, but I probably won’t think your reasoning is all that justified.
1. Mercedes
Apart from Quinn, Mercedes was my reason for making this list. There’s simply not a good enough reason to be an actual Mercedes anti and maybe I do make the rules, so that’s that. I can understand being mad that she didn’t get enough but that’s about it. That’s not to say everyone has to stan Mercedes, you do whatever you want. But actively hating her must have a reason and, imo, that reason can hardly be not sus.

Truth or Dare | Kenma
Read Start for it to make more sense. Kenma route. Other routes can be found in
truth or dare m.list
Word Count: 1.4k
warnings: 18+, clit spanking, degradation, slight humiliation kink, possession kink, temperature control, biting, mark up kink, and semi-public sex.
You sigh, deciding it was probably time you tell them. "I like Kenma, okay? But please don't tell him. He barely knows I exist, so I doubt he feels the same way." They both look at you sympathetically and assure you neither of them will tell him, but you sense something odd behind their supposed sympathy. This went on for a few rounds, their actions getting more and more suspicious by the second until the attention was once again back on you. "Y/n-Chan, truth or dare?" You, wanting to be bold, chose the riskier option. "Dare." Kiyoko looked you right in the eye, giving you a faux smile that lured you in a false sense of security. "Tomorrow, at Yachi's birthday party, I dare you to sit on Kuroo's lap until Kenma notices. Don't worry, I'll tell Kuroo in advance, so he won't gain any unnecessary thoughts or feelings." You were reluctant, wary even, but this would be a dead giveaway if Kenma actually did notice you, maybe even like you back. And that is the only reason you said, "O-Okay."
You had picked out your best outfit for this occasion, and after spending the whole night debating if the embarrassment was worth it, you also picked out your best set of underwear. You took a deep breath and clutching onto the bag containing Yachi's gift in it to hopefully calm down some of your nerves, you walk through the door of her home. The first thing you see is Kiyoko and Yachi, clearly waiting for you near the couch. And the second thing you see, is Kuroo and Kenma, sitting next to them. You set your friend's gift on the table with the others, take a deep breath, and then tread over with a confident façade plastered on your face. Kenma was playing a game on his phone, and Kuroo was whispering to Kiyoko, most likely about the little arrangement you all had prepared. They finally notice you, and Kuroo was quick to change his position into a man spread to make it easier for you to sit on. Your throat, suddenly feeling very dry, closed up, and your legs became wobbly. But, you pushed through it all, making your way over to the bed-headed captain, and plopping yourself right onto his open lap. You tried your best to contain the red-hot blush on your face and the shake in your hands, but your body denied all of your attempts to soothe yourself. "Hey, Y/n." Kuroo greeted, taking hold of your bare thighs to hopefully get Kenma's attention. The mention of your name had Kenma quickly glancing over to you, but then he did a double-take and his head shot up and glared at the big hands grasping your thighs. You decide to take it a step forward and lean back into Kuroo's chest, further fueling Kenma's growing irritation. "Yachi and I are going to get some drinks from the kitchen. Y/n, Kuroo, try to keep it PG." Kenma lets out a grunt, picking his phone back up, huffing as he aggressively taps the screen with his thumbs. Kuroo begins to gently stroke the sensitive skin of your thighs, the giggles coming from your mouth attracting Kenma's gaze again. You could almost feel the jealousy and rage radiating off of him, and that only egged you on further. You turned yourself around to face Kuroo, and rest your head under his chin inhaling the scent there. All that was left of Kenma's restraint snapped as he yanked you away from his friend and quickly pulled you into the nearest empty room, with only the worst intentions in mind.
"Filthy slut, teasing me like that, and with my best friend, of all people?" He backed you up against the sink, admiring the way you squirmed for him. "I-I don't know what y-you mean" You evade, letting Kenma's arms slam against the counter behind you. His breath was gently fanning over your cheek, his lips mere inches away from yours. One slight movement could connect your lips. "You think you deserve to be kissed right now, kitten?" The high-pitched whine that left your mouth made him smirk, moving away from your lips and instead heads towards your open neck. Kenma nibbles on your jawline, rutting his hardening bulge into you for added effect. The imprint of his cock rubbing against your dampened slit was enough to make you mewl out in impulse, wanting more of the delicious friction and more importantly, you wanted Kenma. Hearing your desperate sounds only pushed him further as he bit down onto your exposed collarbone lightly and began to suck, hoping to leave a mark for everyone to see once you both were done. Fingers grazed over your belly and then down the curve of your thighs before moving back up again to your cunny that was begging to be touched. "This cute little pussy is so warm, do you need some help cooling it down?" Kenma questions, looking into your eyes innocently while he taps the covered hood of your clit. "Y-Yes!" You respond, shivering when Kenma levels himself with your clothed cunt. He grabs the side of your panties and yanks them to the side, still looking up to you while he blows cool air onto your hot sex to watch you squirm at the contrasting temperatures. He moves on, directing the coolness at your puffy clit, the swollen bud throbbing from neglect.
You could easily see the strain of Kenma's cock through his grey sweats, a small wet spot evident from the most likely leaking tip making you feel hot all over. "K-Kenma, want your c-cock." You pout, eyes screwed shut when he licks a stripe up the seam of your cunny. "Hmm, is that so?" He replies nonchalantly, his hand going to push down his sweats. Your cheeks glowed as the bulge somehow looked bigger without the first layer of clothing blocking your view, and you can't help but wonder if it would be the same way when he removed his boxers. You flinch and twitch wildly as a slap echoed throughout the room, your little clit burning from the strike. You couldn't even hide the look of ecstasy that covered your face, nor did you want to. "Naughty kitty. Getting off to your little cunny getting slapped?"
The slanted eyes glaring up at you make you quiver in want once again, the wrenching heat in your tummy demanding something be put inside of you. "Yes! I'm your naughty kitty" You claim, eyes rolling back when he pinches your engorged nub as a reward. "Can this tiny little hole even take all my cock?" He hums, sliding down the last barrier of clothing preventing him from being balls deep inside you. "Yes, it can! I promise it can! Please fill me up, Kenma!" You cry, tears welling up in your eyes from the humiliation. Kenma stands to his feet, setting you on the cold countertop of the sink and leaning you back against the mirror. The tip of his dick taps your twitching little clit thrusting forward so the shaft rubbed the ball of nerves perfectly to give you that oh so wanted friction you had begged silently for minutes ago. You moaned out, watching as he pulled back once more, but this time sheathing himself into your tight cunny. Your gummy walls convulsed around him in a welcoming way, the wet warmth making his cock throb inside of you. "Yes! Thank you Kenma!" You call out, your walls clutching him so snugly he could barely move out. Kenma gives you no mercy, pounding into your sweet hole relentlessly and finally giving in to the itching urge to kiss you. His lips were searing hot despite blowing such cold air on your cunt earlier, but you weren't complaining. Your jaw gave way, letting your tongue fall out and your eyes roll back into your head, the pleasure becoming too much for you to handle. And the thumb that decided to press itself to your clit wasn't helping the sudden need to release. "W-Wanna cum! Please l-let me cum!" You plead, your tits bouncing the intense rhythm Kenma had set. Taking pity on you, he thumbs your little clit harder to force you into your orgasm. The fluttering of your walls milked his cock wonderfully, causing him to pull out and let his ropes of cum spray out onto your shirt. "Get ready, once we clean up, we're leaving. Make sure to let everyone get an eyeful of those pretty marks I left on you, kitty."

Yes she was fifth grader and don't worry most people at least the one I know doesn't even remember that detail, Shugo Chara just happened to be my comfort manga when I was younger that it stay in my head even after decade pases.
Also thank you for being level headed and understanding while providing the answer. People I saw in internet usually doesn't want to view amu and ikuto's relationship as a fan service and usually people didn't even read or read way past the first few chapters before making a judgement, especially people who keep saying that Ikuto is abusive and forcing himself to Amu even though he wasn't and there's always a reason behind his "problematic" act. So your honest opinion make me really glad that I decided to have this talk with you.
Me however feel defensive because I kind of expecting another whole debate about it because that's what I've been experienced for years and I'm sorry if my ask come out like that.
Hope you enjoy the manga. Cheers! -Shugo Chara Anon. (Because it's easier to call me that way lol 🤣)
Yeah I mean... the whole thing between Amu and Ikuto would have a plethora of issues in the real world, but from a fictional perspective, it makes sense why it's there. The whole manga's pretty fanservicey for Amu anyway, with how many people get crushes on her. Kairi and Nadeshiko/Nagihiko, for instance (though only the relationships with Tadase and Ikuto go anywhere). Even the cases where Ikuto's a little overly forceful make sense, it's part of the "well I'm not allowed to desire this, but this other person made me" thing that also explains why rape fantasies are common, even though most of the people who have those would never want it to happen in real life. It's one of the cases where you can really tell that Shugo Chara is aimed at tween girls and is meant to cater to them specifically. It also shows just how much Ikuto's attracted to Amu, which I mean, the idea that a hot bad boy high school student would be that into you as a tween girl can be a gratifying idea. Like this is the kind of thing I could see kids that age writing stories about, kind of like what happened in Turning Red, if you've seen that movie.
Actually it reminds me of Tokyo Mew Mew, which was the first manga I ever owned. Ikuto's a lot nicer than Kish is at least.
Also I actually finished the manga, I'd reread volume 1 earlier, and the library was missing two volumes so I skipped those (like I've said, I HAVE read it before, it's just been many years).
Plus I mean, I like plenty of "problematic" manga. The first anime I ever saw and at least one of the first manga I ever read was Cardcaptor Sakura. Beautiful art, great story, fantastic characters... but I wouldn't actually hand the manga to a kid in the target audience's age range because of the relationship between Mr. Terada and Rika (ew). Very glad they changed that to being a one-sided crush on Rika's part in the anime.
I don't necessarily LIKE when shows and manga have stuff that's squicky, but I'm also gonna look at why that stuff was included, and even in cases where I really think it shouldn't have been there, I might still enjoy the show/book for the other aspects of the story.

Aerith in light of healthcare provider
So, I've wanted to write an analysis about Aerith in light of her medical viewpoint for quite a long time but only recently got the chance to complete it. It is well known in the game that Aerith is the healer of the story. She possesses a great MP with a limit break to heal and buff people which greatly affects your gameplay. Of course, you can equip others with Healing and Prayer materias to render them useful for healing as well. But story-wise, no one can take away Aerith's status as the healer. We know in canon that Aerith provided herbs to the Sector 5 slums doctor to create medicine. And if you finished the Corneo Stash side quest in Chapter 14, you can return to the church and see a couple of elderly sitting on the pew praying. And when you come closer to them you'll hear them talking about how they didn't see Aerith around and they're sure she's alright and probably be around healing people. You know, since the Sector 7 plate just fell. (Even though Aerith is not alright actually coz she was kidnapped by Shinra by this time) Point is, we are fed by the NPCs on how much Aerith had helped around as a healer. She had been doing this for years.
While being in denial about who she actually is, being a healer had always been implanted in her. She is used to it. When you're used to being a healer, there's a certain level when you have a different reaction compared to others. The way you think is different. Apart from that, she's also a Cetra. And we knew for a fact Cetra had a certain affinity towards souls who are returning to the Planet. Meaning, as much as she is used to healing others, she's also used to sensing death.
My whole point is that being a Cardiac Anaesthesiologist and Intensivist as I am, I can totally relate my position with Aerith, as we both have constantly helped people and encounter death on daily basis. While I'm pretty confident that the majority of these might be coincidences (because I'm pretty sure there are no doctors in the SE team), I thought the coincidences are pretty cool to ponder upon and I'm amazed at how the subtle differences between Aerith's reaction to events from other characters.
I'm gonna ignore the meta part of Aerith, mainly because I'm not discussing how much Aerith knew, and if there was anything in jeopardy of what she knew whatsoever. So we're gonna focus on the fact that she is used to healing and feeling people's death. People who are used to death on daily basis had a certain unique view on life and death. And that affects how we act upon facing them too. While this is evident throughout Remake, I'm gonna focus on the plate drop event to be more concise. I will also use Tifa as a comparison to make it easier to see the difference between the reaction of the two. Let’s start!
1) Aerith is quick in emergency situations.
When you are used to people dying, you developed a certain immunity and you are able to have a sound mind and composure at the sudden change of event. As healthcare providers, we face stable situations turning into critical real fast. And we have a switch in our minds that turns us from standby mode to rescue mode. This is exactly what happened to Aerith when Don Corneo revealed Shinra's plan to blow up Sector 7's support pillar. Tifa is part of Sector 7. It is her home. Which is why her reaction showed how she was super devastated, she slowly stood up and muttered "They wouldn't..." because she couldn't believe it. Aerith? She had that switch in her mind, and she immediately turned and say "Come on, guys! We gotta go!". She switched into that critical mode in a second. It helps that she's also not personally connected to Sector 7, and thus her judgment was not as impaired. Of course, they both switched into the critical mode in the sewer, but it was at the moment of revelation that made it different. Just like how healthcare providers switched at the moment of revelation that their patients are at the brink of death—you immediately jumped into rescue mode.
2) She plans for the worst.
Remember after they defeated Abzu and Tifa started to question Corneo's information? She didn't want to believe it, because it didn't make sense to destroy your years of efforts building the plate just to get back to a small group like AVALANCHE. Think about the money they put in to build it, they're gonna have to put them all again. In fact, along their way out of the sewer, Tifa voiced out multiple times how this had been bothering her. But I'm intrigued with Aerith's reply "If he's telling the truth, then we should go. And if it turns out he was lying, then so what?". This here is exactly what doctors do. We plan and prepare for the worst. And if the worst didn't happen, then so what? If you ever had life-saving surgery, your doctors would tell you "You need this surgery coz you might die. But if you do the surgery, there's a high chance you'll survive, but there's a small chance you'll die too". And we prepare for that small chance that our patients die. No, we don't let our preparations lacking because we hope they'll survive. We prepare for the worst outcome possible and get all the equipment ready in case they'll die. If they didn't, then so what? It doesn't mean our preparations were futile efforts. It only means we were prepared. And that line of Aerith seriously hits home to me.
3) She hopes for the best.
Before they crossed the water sewer, Tifa once again voiced out how she couldn't stop thinking about what Corneo said, and she was still hoping that he was lying. And then Aerith said, "The future isn't set in stone". (Again, I'm gonna ignore the meta part of Aerith) And then she proceeded to set up that small date with Tifa. Believe it or not, this is actually what we do during bad calls. We'd talk about what we would do after all this ends; we'd go out dining, or playing games/darts, or go drinking, or whatever it is that makes us happy. Just to keep our minds calm and to allow us to hope for the future, even if it's just a few hours away. It gives us hope and courage to go on. We plan for the worst, but we hope for the best. The more critical the situation is, the more you need to be level-headed. And needless to say, after this point onwards, Tifa is much more calmed down from her struggle to keep herself focus.
4) She follows orders.
This might sound weird to some, but the ability to cast away your worry and focus on what you can do, instead of what you should do, is important in emergency situations. You need to know what you don't know. You don't get in the way of your comrades. If you're not good at intubating, you don't insist to intubate in emergency situations just because you wanna help. Seriously, you'll just make things worse. When Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith were attacked before climbing up and out of the sewer, Cloud asked both Tifa and Aerith to keep going. Aerith immediately answers "Okay" and left—without a single but. This is significant because it shows that Aerith knew she'd be better off leaving. She doesn't need to offer help, coz her help was not needed. This is not the place where she could help. The ability to recognize this is very important for healthcare professionals. Tifa was a bit more reluctant to leave, but that's probably because she is a martial artist in-game. Also, the fact that Aerith could still joke "We're not delicious" is just so real lol! Yup, we joke sometimes when we're facing deaths—doesn't mean we lose focus in saving the dying person in front of us, don't worry. And then it happens again when they reached Sector 7 when Cloud asked them to stay with Wedge as he goes up, Aerith immediately answered "sure"—because she can "patch" Wedge up, it's where her abilities lie. This is even more accentuated when an injured Wedge argued that he can still fight when he clearly can't—making this point even more obvious. Aerith is someone with a healthcare mind, Wedge was not.
5) She supports her comrades emotionally even when she’s worried too.
When they reached the surface, they spotted a Shinra helicopter. Cloud assured them they're only on patrol. Aerith turned to Tifa and said, "Don't worry, we'll make it in time". This moment is also very iconic to me. As I mentioned, I'm an anaesthesiologist. We are the support doctors to surgeons and physicians. Those moments when we're operating on AAA surgeries and the patient is losing liters of blood and literally dying, we're pumping bloods in with our hands and get those Level 1 machines operating, and the surgeons would be panicking because it keeps bleeding? Yep, I did say it before. "We'll make it. Just concentrate on the surgery and don't worry about the bleeding", even though I'm sweating and dying here trying to keep the patient alive. But I pretended to be calm in front of my team and cheered them on. Because the whole team needs to keep calm. If one of the team loses hope, then bid your chance farewell. As an anaesthesiologist, we're almost like the anchor in the room. People look at us to know if everything's alright. I need to tell them it's alright, so they need not worry. Aerith knew Tifa is worried. And she tried to keep Tifa calm with reassurance. Even if she probably freaked out herself.
6) She doesn’t discriminate.
After they defeated the ghost at the haunted maintenance facility, Cloud tried to kill it, and Aerith didn't let him. When Cloud said that thing was dangerous, Aerith said she knows and added "but even so..." she didn't feel right about killing it. (Let's ignore the fact that the Ghoul was a lonely creature for now) It then goes to drop the train wreck which almost killed them had it not been for Cloud. Now this would have been avoided had Aerith let Cloud killed it—maybe. But here's the thing. When you're hyper-aware that people are dying left and right, you value life more. No one deserves to die, even the worst criminal in the world. You're a law-abiding citizen? You're a criminal? It doesn't make a difference to us. I know this is something super hard to comprehend. But technically only when the law subjects the criminal to the death sentence that a person should be left to die. I've been a doctor for eleven years, I was a prison doctor for two. I had the first-hand experience of dealing with criminals. It's not my job to determine whether they deserve to die or not. It's not my call whether they will turn a new leaf had they lived. I know this is something others find difficult to relate to and agree with—happens to my non-medical family and friends. The verdict to us is simple. It's a life. It's worth saving. Period. (Technically the ghosts are dead though but my point still stands)
7) She tries to her best abilities and lets go of what is out of her control.
Tifa's emotions are tampered with again when they confirmed Shinra was going to drop the plate when they overheard the Turks conversation. Her voice shook, we can literally hear it. Aerith's response was "all we can do now is keep moving". And she's right. When they reached Sector 7 and the Whispers were preventing them, she said "we have to get past whatever it takes". And later on, Tifa left to help Cloud and Barret, and Aerith agreed to get to Seventh Heaven to ensure Marlene's safety. Wedge had a short mental breakdown when he realized he was no good to anyone up or down the crime scene. And Aerith told him "We can still save a lot of lives", "That's no excuse to give up", "I need to know I did everything I could". Her encouragement helped Wedge save more people. Some argued, did she not care about the lives that already died? Now here's my point; no, we don't. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but really. What can we do for people who are already dead? Nothing. What can we do for people who are still alive? Everything. And this is the core of being a healthcare provider—we prioritize. Yes, we're also humans. We can get emotional when our own friends and relatives die. (Aerith might not be as calm had it happened at Sector 5) But when we put the healthcare provider cap on, we mean business. That is why when disasters happened, and we triage people with a black tag? That's when we know we couldn't do anything for them. We don't mourn at the black tags. We move on to the other tags instead. So that we know we already did everything in our power to help. And yes, it doesn't matter even if we lost more lives than we saved. It's worth it, even if we only saved one person out of thousands of deaths. Just like how Aerith saved Betty in Sector 7. That one life is worth it.

Mando’a Translation: Tor – justice
He always thought it would end like this. Never in some big blaze of blaster fire or with his ship, but in some back alley, bleeding out, alone.
Hell, maybe he deserved it. He’d killed enough people to warrant this end, slumped on the floor, too weak to save himself.
He didn’t deserve a warrior’s death, a Mandalorian’s death. Not after all he had done.
Of course, it was his duty, his honour as a Mandalorian and a bounty hunter but… that sacred Creed did nothing to stop the thoughts that plagued him at night, the whispers that hissed in his ear during his waking hours.
He almost laughed at himself.
The Creed was all he had.
Until…. Until the kid had come along.
Until he saw that little wrinkly baby in the crib and… it had all changed.
He couldn’t kill it, him, couldn’t take it back to the Client or his Clones.
One look at that damn little silver ball, and eveyrhting went straight out the window.
Fuck the Guild code. He would never kill a child, an innocent being that couldn’t even talk, could only make those little cooing sounds that even he had to admit were adorable.
Rescuing him… it had given him something to live for. Something to fill his days and a reason not to go hurtling helmet first into danger with no regard for his own safety.
Except… well, no. That wasn’t strictly true was it. He’d become more reckless since that moment, the rules that his bound his life for so long were slowly coming undone bit by bit. All of which made him so reckless, so… desperate?
You only had to look at the sheer amount of people lining up for his and the kid’s head to prove that.
So maybe he didn’t always make the smartest decisions, but they were still alive, weren’t they? Had friends to help them if he needed it.
In a short time, he’d gone from being Judge, Jury and Executioner, to being the person that people called when they needed help. Sometimes people didn’t even call him. He just showed up and offered his services.
And truth be told… he liked it. He liked people looking at him with hope and admiration, rather than fear and jealousy. He liked the way people fussed over the kid, asking if Mando was taking good care of the child. Like they were a family.
A Clan.
The sigil on his armour said as much. Him and the kid. A unit of two rogues.
That’s what it all came down to, in the end. Everything was to keep Grogu safe. That’s why he stuck to the Outer Rim, taking jobs that would draw him further away from those that relentlessly hunting them, those who wanted to harm the Child. Besides, he needed the credits that came with the big jobs. Taking care of the little womp rat was expensive. Not to mention there was always something falling apart on his ship.
So, when that guy in the hood had cornered him in the bar, given him the fob and told him about the bounty that no one could catch, he’d taken it without a thought. He’d had so many over the years that were supposedly uncatchable that the word had nearly lost its meaning. And this stranger had obviously sensed that, explained that it was true. Reeled off the sheer amount of hunters that had been sent that way, Imps, Trandoshans, Empire workers, IG-11 robots, even another Mandalorian. After hearing that list, Mando had expected some high-level bounty. An escapee from the deepest pits of the darkest prisons, someone who had done terrible, terrible things.
So… when he’d activated the puck, and the hologram of a woman’s face had come up… he was shocked. This woman… she was beautiful. Still young. She didn’t look like she bathed in the blood of her enemies, or killed children and babies, she looked… well, not exactly harmless. There was a glint in her eyes even on the hologram, a spark that warned of danger, promised pain to anyone that tried to hurt her.
A survivor’s look.
Something niggled at him, a feeling he couldn’t quite place. It might have been hesitation, but he ignored it. The bounty over her head was enough that he could take Grogu to one of those sanctuary planets and lay low for a few weeks. Maybe even a few months. The kid deserved it, to be able to play and explore.
And himself… Maker, he was just so tired.
So, he’d pocketed the puck and the fob, didn’t ask who the client was, went back to the Crest and then he was on his way to Sorgan.
Maybe it would take him a little longer than usual to bring the girl in, but it was nothing that he hadn’t done before. After all, stealing back the kid, breaking into a prison, everything else that had occurred recently… this was a walk in the park.
He still believed that, right up to tracking you. Even when he chased you.
He had to admit, he did love it when they ran, even if his back was killing him.
Something about the chase, the frantic fear of the prey as he hunted them down, the conclusion inevitable. It thrilled him.
But… this felt.. different.
You were different. You fought like it was a dance, whirling across the clearing and around his punches like there was a song only you could hear. And you were taunting him, laughing as you did. You lived for this, like you had been bred for it. No… you’d been shaped by it, shaped by the choice of cowering or turning into a wolf. A wolf, like those he’d seen in Lothal.
You were strong, you fought well, he had to give you that much. He knew he would have to work for it, but with the promise of safety lingering, he matched you move for move, determined to hold this out as long as it took.
He’d read your file, read what had happened and used that to his advantage. The words had come easily, even though they had stirred something inside him, perhaps a mirror of the feelings he was encouraging in you.
But then… then you just gave in. Straight away. And not like the others did. Not in the way that they had, thinking it would make him go easier, change his mind.
No, you had completely, utterly given up.  He saw it in your eyes. Saw that survivors glint gutter out, a wolf tamed back into her cage with her tail between her legs.
And… it threw him. He had touched something, caught something deep within you as he taunted you. Something broken… that again whispered to his own deepest thoughts. Like calling to like.
He’d ignored it, pushing that thought back into the part of his minds where his darker thoughts lay slumbering – for now. He’d carried you back to the Crest, shackled you to the wall and had made to leave you there.
Only, he had seen that the wound on your shoulder was torn open again, ripped by your fight and his jamming with the rifle. It was bleeding through your tunic, and even with unconsciousness heavy in your body, you still looked somewhat pained.
He’d hovered there, staring at the bleeding wound and having some kind of internal battle.
It wasn’t fatal. It was just a recent injury that had torn open. You’d be fine. He nodded, turning around and making all of one step.
But. A Trandoshan had been the last person to hunt you. They relished in the hunt, had probably fought dirty and used a poison. It might be infected. What if you died on his way back to dropping you off? Or got really, really sick?
Nevermind. The messenger for the Client stated you had to be brought back alive. Alive didn’t mean whole. He carried on walking, trying to focus again on something else… only to pause a couple of metres away.
Help her.
The Mandalorian had turned back around to look at you, a frustrated grunt slipping from his lips. He moved through the ship, grabbing a med-kit and then practically stormed back to you, nearly ripping your tunic as he’d eased up the sleeve.
It wasn’t too bad, a deep wound but it hadn’t been infected, yet. He cleaned it up, spraying it with the last of his bacta-spray and binding it with the last strip of bandages. He’d have to get some more soon, dig up some credits from somewhere.
A cruel reminder of why he took this job. What you were. A bounty. That’s all.
Muttering a string of curses, he finished binding your wound, wrenching his hands away and then made his way back upstairs.
A bounty. A means to an end. The way to getting a break that his aching body craved for.
He was hunter. You were prey.
That was the mantra he had to keep repeating to himself when he’d brought you up to the cockpit.
Had to keep repeating when you were teasing him, which simultaneously ground on his nerves but also made his skin tighten in a way it hadn’t for a while.
It had been a long time, so long since he’d that kind of verbal play with someone.
Hell, it had been a long time since he’d had any kind of play with anyone. He just didn’t have the time anymore, not with Grogu and not when everyone knew who he was. How could you trust someone enough to sleep with them when nearly everyone wanted to kill you?
His new mantra had echoed in his head when you began to verbally poke at him, hitting home about being lonely. He wouldn’t have been surprised if you knew you’d hit a nerve. But thankfully you stopped.
But not before that broken thing had called between you again. Your words were spoken with too much ease and casualness, someone who knew all too well the loneliness and starvation for touch and companionship.
Maker, he had to get rid of you soon.
It had almost been a relief to find the small bounty on this planet. You’d been asleep, the kid asleep too so he’d gone. He didn’t need to wake either of you up, you knew why you were here - he’d told you so this morning.
Besides, it was a small planet, easy prey to catch when everyone here feared the dark. He’d be back in a few hours.
With the way he was so wired, he’d probably be back in two.
That’s the way it was meant to happen.
Track down the bounty, disarm, bring him back, freeze him in carbonite and Mando would have you back in the sky before you’d even woken up.
And it had happened that way initially. He followed the sharp tailed bounty from the fighting pits to a cantina. Had to sit and listen as he boasted about some girl he’d bedded the night before and had screaming his name. He then, of course, launched into detail of said night, drawling about this girl in such a derogatory way that it took all his training and restraint not to just shoot this creep in the head there and then and be done with it.
But, the Mandalorian had endured it. Sat there for an hour or so and then followed him out into an alleyway. Mando kept hidden as the bounty had spoken to a friend, talking about another girl he’d seen. Apparently, this one was even better than last night. He had it on good authority that this girl would be game for anything he wanted to do and more.
And then Spikey had started describing again, in detail, what he would do. And Mando had been disgusted, angry that this creep was talking about a woman this way, such sick and derogatory things. Spikey’s friend asked if this ‘slut’ had a name.
And then…
Your name. That’s what he said.
And that’s when it went wrong.
Your name had barely come out of this animal’s lips when a red haze clouded over the Mandalorian. Everything in him screamed violence and his body went on autopilot, attacking this vile waste of space matter so quickly he hadn’t had time to breathe. Mando didn’t even notice the friend bolt, running away. He was just so focused on taking down the bounty, ripping him apart for what he’d said about you. This one would be brought in cold. He would say that it put up a fight, tried to kill him so Mando acted in self-defence.
His previous mantra of the last two days was forgotten, overtaken by a need to defend you, make sure this guy stayed the hell away from you. Bring him down, freeze him in carbonite and get off of this planet. He fell back into that haze, relying on his skills and instincts.
Except… except that when the haze cleared, he wasn’t leaning over the body.
No, he was the one being pinned against the wall by the bounty, with a strength he hadn’t realised Spikey possessed. What the fuck was he?
Escape training came to him now, but before he could disarm and kill, the bounty began to spew those vile thoughts about you again. About how Mando was keeping you tied to a bed, for his own pleasure. How he was going to take you, ask to keep you, use you-
And then for the first time in his life, Mando forgot his training. He forgot about blocking and defensive maneuverers. He forgot about the myriad of weapons on his body, the Whistling Birds, the flame-thrower.
He reached out in a blind fury to throttle this creep.
He left himself open to attack.
That was the first time he royally fucked up tonight.
Pain had suddenly become a living thing in his side and waist as he slid down the wall, and then his only thought wasn’t of survival, it was of the kid, and you.
You were back in the ship, both of you safe at least. Maybe you would know how to fly, know how to get yourselves out of there and run, escape. That’s what he’d hoped. You were smart, you were a survivor. You’d take the initiative and get yourselves out. Besides, he might not have admitted it, but he trusted you with Grogu.
And then like he’d fucking summoned you… there you were. Launching into Spikey Tail’s side and getting him away. He could only watch as you engaged him in the fight, taunted him with that same tone you’d used on him. Only this time, he could watch you.
Beautiful.
There was no other word for it, as much as he might not have wanted to admit it. You fought like it was a dance, that prowling wolf in you giving way to a viper, striking and falling back with all the grace of dancers he’d heard about performing in Coruscant.
He was almost breathless as he watched this deadly game – though that might have been the blood loss and blow to his head.
He thought he might be sick when the sound of your ribs shattering bounced off the slick metal walls, the muffled cry of agony it tore from you.
But still, the taunts kept coming, and he couldn’t help himself when you complained that Spikey Tail talked too much. You had possibly two broken ribs and yet you were still a cocky little shit. The impressed, huffing laugh that came from his lips was loud enough to be heard by you.
And that was his second fuck up of the night.
What started as an unexpected burst of warmth in his chest as you turned and smiled at him, had immediately frozen his lungs as Spikey slammed you against the wall, strangling you.
Fear shot through Mando, colder than his body had begun to feel. He tried to get up, tried to help you but he couldn’t move. His limbs wouldn’t respond to him.
He couldn’t save you.
He was going to watch you die defending him.
Just like his parents.
No, no, no. He couldn’t. He couldn’t do that, not again. He swore against his body, gathered every remaining ounce of strength that he had and reached for his blaster, just as those sick comments of degradation and ugly lust began to fall from your attacker’s lips.
All he needed was to give you an opening, just one tiny opening and you would do the rest.
Spikey’s lips were creeping toward yours, fear bursting in your eyes as you scrambled for the vibroblade sheathed against your thigh.
An opening, that’s all he had to do.
And he did. He managed to haul his body back from the edge of death long enough to shoot the guy in the back.
You took your opening.
He saw the flash of your vibroblade, heard the muffled, wet noise as it sunk into his bounty’s neck.
The guy fell to the floor in a dead weight. You dropped too and he managed to see you gasp for air, assure himself you were mostly okay before that flame of energy guttered out so quickly, he saw stars.
Darkness hovered around the edges of his vision as he felt his life slip through his fingers – literally, his other hand was pressed to his side in an effort to try and staunch it but he didn’t have the energy to.
This was it then.
The way he would go.
Nothing noble, or heroic.
Bleeding out in a back alley. The creatures in the dark would take him soon enough.
At least you would be able to take the kid and run now. At least there was that.
And then he felt hands knocking his way, significantly smaller hands push into the wound. He couldn’t even make a noise of pain; it didn’t hurt anymore. His vision cleared again and there you were once more, leaning over him with blood sprayed over your face, falling from a cut on your cheek.
No. No.
What were you doing??
You were supposed to escape. You were supposed to flee the mess he’d bought you into and take the kid and run.
He tried to speak, to convey these thoughts to you but his lips had stopped responding. His tongue felt heavy in his mouth. But somehow, it was like you got what he meant.
Your hands began to lift, and he had a weak wave of relief that was marred by the fresh soaking of blood that oozed out of his side. How much had he lost now?
Too much, by the cooling temperature of his body and the trembling that had begun.
He had come close to death before, so many times before but this felt different. This felt like he was losing something. Something that was just within reach but he hadn’t had the chance to grasp at yet. And it was being wrenched away, taken from him and trickling over the stones beneath him in a deep, scarlet puddle.
Maybe he’d begun to hallucinate too, because you were back, leaning over him, hands pressed into him again like they could stop the blood. He lifted his eyes and something in him curled up and panged when he saw that you were already gazing at him.
Gazing right into his eyes.
How you knew where they were, how you looked through the blackened visor without seeing, he didn’t know. But he could read the war raging inside of you, the battle off stay or go.
Go.
Mando tried to talk again, but only managed a faint noise, a croak that sounded so pitiful, he might have cringed at himself had he not started to hear a ringing in his ears. Time was nearly up, ticking away his life and that glimmer of something.
So, he instead just looked at you. You were clearly not made up yet, so he did something selfish.
He put his life in your hands.
If you left him here to die, he deserved it. It was justice. Justice for every ounce of pain he’d caused. The grief he’d doled out to mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, children.
Justice for the life of treachery he had all but dumped Grogu into.
Justice for letting his parents die for him and not save them.
But, if you let him live…
Then he would try harder. He would repent for his mistakes.
He would make sure you were dropped somewhere safely. You couldn’t stay with him, he wrought death and destruction to those around him whether he meant it or not
But he could take you somewhere safe, maybe to Greef and Cara.
Then he would hunt down whoever came after you next, giving you the respite that he was going to keep for himself.
They were the options.
A deserved death, or a new determination to set right his mistakes.
These thoughts swum through his hazy brain at a surprisingly rapid pace, only a few seconds worth of time as he still watched what you would do with this choice. He could see that you understood, understood the choice he had selfishly bestowed upon you.
Only it was too late.
Heavy darkness thundered over him in an unrelenting tidal wave and with a choked gasp, he was dragged under, so deep he might have imagined your arms winding around his battered body, hauling him to his feet as much as you could.
His brain giving him one last reprieve, perhaps, or maybe a cruel taunt to what might have been before he was sucked under and everything went numb.

hi! i can’t believe i’m doing this, being cowardly and asking anonymously, which is so not like me, but i’m really not sure about the feedback i’ll get from this ask so here goes. i really hope you don’t take this the wrong way. i just don’t know who else to ask and among the authors i see in tumblr you’re the one with all the headcanons and looks into their characterization and all huhu.
i just noticed that in the majority of angst(y) aus, sol (a) is always the one who is constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop, prioritising her family over hwi/not considering him her family, or ends up pushing hwi away and then the relationship turns out badly, and by badly meaning it ends. i understand the first one since that’s really been the case for the majority of what we get a glimpse of in her life. but i don’t understand the others and i want to understand because so many people are writing it that way, and i interpret it as: they see something i don’t. maybe there are things about her character that i can’t or perceive differently or my 21 year old brain lacks the wisdom for that i miss how it progresses to that. but since i’m too shy to interact with anyone i don’t have anyone to compare notes with, huhu. i don’t really understand the others them because:
she basically said she’ll root for him in his uncle’s place which isn’t something to be taken lightly, she knows the gravity of what she said and more than anyone else she knows what it feels like to have family leave you behind/alone and all (i hope u get what i mean here and that this is sufficient, it’ll get even longer if i add more explaining)
she has high EQ, she basically hit all the right spots in the before they uploaded the video part (if it wasn’t for assemblyman ko…) and this scene is also another example of number 3 where she ends up opening herself up to him again
she knows he understands her in a sense and has this certain level of trust towards him, it can be seen on how she told him about dan but not about anyone else, and even if hwi didn’t show up at that time it can also be seen that she somehow opens up to him in the drinking water as if its booze scene. I guess i just observed that in the instances where she takes the first step and tries to push him away, she rather ends up opening herself up to him.
hwi also has high EQ or at least towards sol (lmao) and combined with his high IQ and the fact that he understands her contributes to number 3
and not all of these scenes can be considered as “working out alright and happily and greatly” since there are challenges in them but somehow it never reaches to that degree :<
as i said i want to compare notes because i understand only a portion of where its based on. i’m not saying its ooc since there is a bedrock on where that could possibly come from, it’s just that i can’t comprehend how its probable to reach up to that degree based on my understanding of their characters huhu. if it is a writer’s thing though perhaps it’s most likely why i don’t understand since all i’ve ever done my whole life is read and not really the type that writes. huhu.
i’m really not complaining or insulting or saying anything bad about or offending the fics, honestly huhu. i just want to learn more about her character and i’m bad at saying things not bluntly :< i tried my best :<
also, if you’re not comfortable with answering posting the answer publicly but still considering to or want to answer my question (i’ve used tumblr for so long but don’t know how asks work) if know a way to kinda hide the ask but answer it and say you want me to dm you about it, i can :<
hello anon! thank you for this analysis that while lengthy, does give me a bit of insight!
I think all your points are valid! about why she’s the one that is the start of the angst, why she pushes him away and not the other way around! I completely get your meaning, and honestly i do see the things you are seeing too!
this is just my personal take on this and how i view sol as being the ‘start’ of angst, why aren’t there fics on joon being the ‘start’ of angst and all, so please do take this with a pinch of salt!
I’ve personally not written any headcanons/fics that are mainly angst centred yet, so I would have to draw on my understanding of sol and joonhwi as characters from law school.
for sol, she’s a big emotional girl. you could see from the way she argues in class, with her friends, with how she reacts all the time. she rides on emotions and uses her heart a little more than her brain. like the bad fama case, she couldn’t give up cause she was emotional about it. like you said, she has a high EQ!
a possible reason to the angst on her part is due to the emotions as well. being someone that follows her heart so closely, she’s easily affected by the people around her and swayed easily. it would make a little more sense for the angst to derive from her, maybe from feeling that she lacks the love for joon. or maybe, a certain incident and she breaks it off.
one other reason is her upbringing. we know that she has biological father that is different from her stepfather. we also know that it is implied that her biological father is not present in her life, and her stepfather is abusive to her mother. as such, this must have been hard on her. imagine growing up in a family far from perfect, would one believe in love? many cases, some say no. they have never seen a healthy relationship before, much less seen one grow in their eyes from young till adulthood. this is the same for sol too. she didn’t see a perfect family, she saw a broken family, no father figure and her mother who endured abuse. this ultimately might make sol think “why is there a need for love? will I end up like my parents? is joon going to leave me, like my biological father did?” it’s undeniable that she might have these thoughts in her mind. thus, it’s a more common catalyst of angst, in a breakup thinking she’s not good enough, or she’s not ready, or undeserving.
as such, most writers might maybe find it easier to draw on this aspect of sol as the angst starter. a short example of this would be in my ongoing “the fairytale you never had (would you believe again?)” fic and in my oneshots “worthy” !
however, I do wonder, “why isn’t joonhwi the one with angst? is sol the only messy one here?” quickly, I thought back to most of the scenes of joonhwi when he is troubled, confused or any sign of him showing emotions.
joonhwi can be an angst starter, but I think it drawn on less since it’s so hard to draw on. from the base line, we know he’s smart. we know he’s probably rich. we know his uncle is the closest person to him. we know his parents died. but all these are just facts, no emotions. in everything that joonhwi does, he does it out of compliance, law abiding, or of a moral code. very few instances does he act of emotions or show a raw side of him.
the only times we could see it would be when he’s confronting his uncle, or the moments with sol later on in the show. he rarely shows emotions, and it’s hard to understand him or his troubles when he doesn’t show many emotions and we don’t know enough about his life. we know he looks up to his uncle, but it’s impossible for him, an orphan, to not miss his parents or have his missing parents not play a role in his development.
thus, his angst would most probably derive from “can i trust her, even after this?”, “is she lying, to cover up something?”, “is sol really the sol I believe in? or was it an entire lie?” his angst would come from one of trust and not from emotions.
i would really love to give a full analysis, but im no good with this. you can always dm me on Twitter or tumblr and we can always have a chat on this! would love to draw from my fellow writer friends to pitch in on this too, since they are honestly better at the analysis. im just a free writer!
thank you anon for you query! do dm me on tumblr/twitter (whichever is comfortable!) and we can discuss more! i’ll keep your identity secret, no worries!

The first semester had been and gone by this point. You were settling into life at UC Sunnydale, found your friendship group in Buffy and the others. But one thing you still weren’t accustomed to, was living with Spike. He was hard to get along with at the best of times but living with him was a whole different thing.
He appeared to stay up most of the night and sleep well into the afternoon. He played loud punk music almost every waking hour and he smoked like a chimney. He never appeared to listen to a word you said and he pretty much did the opposite from whatever you said or thought anyway.
It was becoming really hard to live with him. Especially when he seemed to do everything he could to make you want to move out. He found it easier to live alone. To hide in the depths of what he knew than
Because of your current living situation you had started to branch out and pursue some of your interests. It beat staying in all the time and you really wanted to find someone that you could relate to.
You were a fan of musicals and the theatre. Poetry and literature. You liked reading and the way a writer could weave such intricate feelings. Scenes and spoken word able to explain your own feelings better than you ever could.
Your new friends didn’t really share your enthusiasm – even Willow was more into science and computers. Although your friend group were kind enough to listen to the way you spoke about your interests. They certainly didn’t make you feel bad about expressing your passions. But they just didn’t share your love and so you began to try to search out people that you could connect with. On some kind of deeper level.
You had been frequenting different bars that held open mic nights. Watching plays and listening to monologues. Letting the intricate wordplay wash over you. It could make you feel so many emotions. So many feelings were conjured.
Your favourite were the open mic nights. You pretty much never got up yourself, you usually would just listen. You were working yourself up to performing something of your own. You wrote things too it was just a matter of working on your performing skills. You were thinking of joining the clubs, maybe to improve your confidence in your writing. In your performing.
You walked back home from a play you had watched (and cried at) to find Spike sat there scribbling something. It was the first time you had ever seen him actually writing or appearing to do any work.
You were about to make a snide comment about it and then he noticed your presence. He almost jumped five feet in the air in surprise. He then hid the notebook behind his back and immediately got up to leave now you had returned. He left muttering something about you being a nosy bitch.
Spike had taken the opportunity, while he finally had time where he felt comfortable since you had actually left the house for once to write. This was something he didn’t like people knowing about. He wiped his eye as he stormed away. Hoping to God you hadn’t seen that. He couldn’t bear you knowing him that way. Laughing.
It was Friday evening and you had some friends over. There was a sudden knock at the front door. Spike had taken a baseball bat from his room and held it up as if he was ready to swing it.
Willow and Buffy’s eyes bulged at the object in his hand as they peaked from your bedroom doorway. Buffy was pleased they had convinced you to come to self-defence class now.
He walked slowly to the door, meeting you in the hallway skipping happily past him. He grabbed you back looking at you as if you were mad. He was expecting debt collectors. Again.
“Spike, it’s the pizza guy” You moved your shoulder from him before carrying on back to the door with the dollars in your hand, “What is wrong with you?” you muttered.
He scowled, jaw tensing as Buffy and Willow giggled at the way he had been so tense and he stormed away smacking the edge of the bat against the wall in his frustration. Leaving a small hole there.
You brought the pizzas back into your room (so you didn’t have to face spike again) and shared them out with your friends.
After you finished your meal and managed to calm yourselves down from whatever had just happened, talk of course turned back to Spike.
“So how is it… y’know…” Willow asked before mouthing “with Spike”. You hadn’t realised how much built up rage you had inside until you launched into your conversation.
“Well, I can tell you that Hell really is a place on Earth”
“That bad?”
“I can’t believe I’m stuck with him – if I even breath in his direction he has a problem with it!”
“Yeah, he’s always been a complete pig. Some people are just born evil” Buffy shrugged.
“Buffy! He’s not evil! He’s just… mean spirited”
“In the most evil way” Buffy added. She had never liked Spike. He was cruel and treated her as if she was dumb just because she was in a sorority and enjoyed cheerleading.
What you and the two girls didn’t realise, was that Spike was eavesdropping. You had all been laughing really loud and he was about to take his chance to kick Buffy and her little loser friend out. Until he found he was interested to hear what you all had to say about him.
You groaned, thinking about the way things had been. You needed to vent. So, you took the chance while you were in the company of your now closest friends.
“He’s inconsiderate and rude and also I’m pretty sure he never washes his clothes... but he always smells good. Weird”
“Totally weird”
“Well, we did like, warn you”
“And oh my God! He walks around naked all the time! There’s always some stranger he’s brought home and they are always so loud! He never studies and the plates are always piled high in the kitchen! It’s disgusting – he’s disgusting!”
“He’s always been so arrogant and gross”
“Hey, don’t wig, next year we can find a place. The four of us – right Buffy?” Willow offered, including her girlfriend. She comforted you as you caught your breath from your outburst. Willow rested her hand on your shoulder to reassure you.
“Really?” You asked with a smile as Buffy nodded. She was going to move out from her sorority so she wasn’t distracted for her last year she had already decided.
“Don’t worry, y/n. We’ll keep you sane” Buffy insisted.
Spike scoffed. The way Buffy acted as if she was saving you from him. As if he was a fate worse than death. You angered him. The way you had determined his character over a few fleeting conversations. The gossip your silly little friends told you.
You became enemy number one. Even more so than you had been before. He hated gossip and the way people would laugh behind his back. You reminded him of this every time he looked at you now, not that you knew this.
The annoyance for the other just kept growing. Yours had originally been fuelled by your friends rumours, but his actions were now getting worse. Spike was seething at your dismissive tone against your character. He didn’t even want a roommate, he only agreed the landlord to put the room up so he didn’t put up the rent again.
So he decided to try and make you leave. Properly this time. He didn’t care anymore, you reminded him of everyone out there. Everyone that he hid himself away from. Distanced himself from.
The tension rose uncomfortably. He was more rude. More gross. And he made sure to do everything he knew that he could to annoy you. It was petty, he knew it, but he knew it would get a rise out of you.
One afternoon, you had been scraping off some congealed red liquid that you had been concerned was blood. He hung out with a weird crowd, you only hoped some poor thing hadn’t been exploded in there. Although, upon further inspection it appeared to be tomato soup. But you would probably embellish the story a little to your friends.
You washed your hands and scowled at him. He had moved to lean against the doorway and just watch you clean.
“God, Spike, you’re so lazy”
“’Scuse me?”
“You don’t clean, you don’t study – what exactly do you do with your life?”
He was affronted by this. By the way you spoke to him. How he felt like you acted like you were better than him. In your frustration you didn’t care what he thought. He just didn’t care. You were trying to live your life.
He could hear Buffy or even Angel’s voice through your own. The way they had always berated him.
“And what? I should be like you? You’re not exactly making a proper go of it are you? Haven’t seen you do much of anything ‘cept follow them brainless bints around the shop. When you’re not doing that you sit in your room as life passes you by, livin’ through your little Musical shows rather than living in the real world - You’re boring. You’ll live your pathetic little life, stuck in your lame little ways until you die”
“Spike-”
“You’re all the same! You and your preppy little band of misfits looking down your noses at everyone and yet you can’t see the obvious, can you? You’re so bored with your pathetic, frigid little lives that you have to make it my bloody problem!”
You decided, seeing as that’s how he viewed you that you would treat him exactly like that. Like he treated you. Things got worse.
He started to invite people over all the time. You would call it a party but there was nothing celebratory about it. You were confined to your room most of the time as they all laughed and screamed along to their music. They were always drinking and playing music no matter what time of the day you saw them.
You usually avoided them, locking your door, but you had needed to slip out of your room for a moment.
“Who’s this?” One of the guests pointed you out as you tried to make it to the bathroom without anybody noticing you. Now everyone’s eyes were on you.
“Oh don’t mind them, they’re just for show hasn’t had an original thought their entire life” Spike shrugged.
“Aw, no, Spike. Another mindless automaton” One of his friends spoke up and he laughed. It was a cold laugh, there was no humour in it.
“Do you, like, want to-”
“Don’t, love. They’re nobody” Spike stopped the blonde girl from speaking to you more kindly than the rest. They all laughed at this and began to tease you.
You left, slamming the door and you heard them laughing, jeering at you for your reaction. It made tears sting the back of your eyes. You collected yourself, shrugging on your jacket. You walked to a place you knew you would be welcome.
You knew that you weren’t going to get on. But this was getting out of hand. You hated him. Hated the way he treated you. The way he judged you, despite him knowing exactly how that feels.
As you thought this, he appeared to be thinking the same thing. Which made Spike scoff and frown. Was he really better than any of the people he hated? He shook that thought away. Downing his beer and looking for another rather than reflect.
You had called Buffy on your way over and she had been quick to contact the entire group to tell them there had been a major incident. Everyone piled around to her dorm room so that they could support you. You had sounded upset on the phone.
You explained everything that had happened and they all comforted you the best that they could. Xander then showed you the stack of films he had brought to try to cheer you up. He had even found some Musicals just for you.
Buffy explained that she had called Angel but he says he’s sorry but he’s busy right now. Buffy appeared disappointed and when you asked her about it she explained. They used to date when they were seniors in college but they had broken up despite still both having feelings for each other.
She explained it had seemed the right thing to do at the time, but now she wished they were back together. You insisted that you would make it your mission to help them get back together which made Buffy grin at you. She really did value your friendship.
As the night wore on your friends began to discuss the idea of you taking your revenge on Spike. It had made you laugh as they suggested ridiculous pranks and ideas that wouldn’t bother him at all. But then they began to take it more seriously. Insisting that you should get even.
You said you weren’t sure. And left it at that. But they thought you had better do something or he wouldn’t stop.
You eventually went back to a trashed house after staying for the weekend with Buffy. You stared at the mess. Maybe you would have to do something.
It had been unusually quiet the few days prior and you should have known better than to hope he had stopped. You had heard a girl, one of Spike’s partners that came around more than most (Harmony but her sex noises were nothing close to harmonious). She explained that if they were to have a threesome it would have to be boy-boy-girl. Apparently, neither of them had been able to swing Charlize Theron.
You had overheard this conversation over breakfast one morning on. A rare occasion they were both awake (they hadn’t gone to sleep yet). You had immediately spat out your food in disgust of their blunt discussion.
It had been perhaps in slight exaggeration but you felt like you were allowed. You were fine with people having sex and having fun but you really didn’t want to have to hear about it over your breakfast. They could have at least let you rub the sleep from your eyes first.
He had scoffed at you at the time and now he had set this up seemingly just to rub you up the wrong way. As opposed to the right ways he was rubbing his partners.
He tried to push the thought down that this had been solely planned because of you. With you in mind. To get a reaction from you. Because that would start him questioning his intentions. His actions. How you made him so angry it was now near obsessive.
So, it appeared they had finally agreed on the logistics of it. And were now giving you a live audio performance. On some random Thursday afternoon just as you had settled down to study.
You swore they were doing it on purpose. Being as loud as possible just to get a rise out of you.
You pounded on the door. You could smell sex from where you were stood out on the landing. He opened the door and stale cigarette smoke appeared to pour out of the room with him. He had opened the door almost immediately. As if he had been waiting.
“Spike!”
“Problem, pet?”
“I don’t care that you’re having sex, the walls are just so thin – I have an exam coming up can you just be quiet? Or go to one of your, uh, friends’ houses…”
“Mm, someone’s jealous”
“I’m not-”
“Just ‘cause you’re not bloody gettin’ any” He prodded before he thought about it a moment, changing tac, “Oh no. I know what this is… You want me, you need me…” He teased, knowing it would make you flustered.
“I just- I just want to-”
“If you wanted a taste all you had to do was ask” He smirked, moving his hips slightly and moving his head smugly along with his words. Drawing your attention to his naked form. The people in his bed were calling him back and you were just staring at each other. All he was wearing was a single silver chain around his neck. He was attractive, you couldn’t deny this and he knew it too.
You were both furious at each other. Silently trying to gain the upper hand.
“You’re a pig, Spike!” You suddenly screamed, stepping towards him angrily. Which made him smile and just close the door in your face. That was what he had wanted. To get such a big emotional response from you.
You were so angry you threw one of your precious book at his now slammed shut door. He winced at the name you had used, one often used against him by people like Buffy. She even managed to get to him in his own home. You angered him. You angered him.
But he turned back and the noises started up again and you knew for sure that they were doing it on purpose now. It was getting louder and louder. He couldn’t be that fucking good, you were sure of it.
You ran into your room and rummaged through the stack of CDs you had brought with you, selecting the perfect accompaniment. The soundtrack from your favourite musical. You turned the volume up fully and let the entire score play out.
You never wanted to see his stupid smug face again.

Yugiri's smile is everything. She has so many of them and they all mean different things. When she's relaxed, when she's excited, when she's confused, when she has no clue what's going on but everyone else is happy so she's happy, when she's relieved, when she's proud... She has so many different smiles and if Tumblr didn't have the 10 image rules, I would absolutely gush about every single one of them in detail. Unfortunately, if I do that, all of those posts will probably be eaten out of the tag, so instead, here are my top 10 favorite Yugiri smiles so far, images included. (Pre-Revenge episode 9)
10. Season One, Episode 2: The First Smile/ 9. Season One, Episode 10: The Sentimental Smile
Tumblr media
Episode 2 is the first time we ever see Yugiri smile. Before this, she seemed relatively nonplussed or generally disinterested in pretty much everything going on. Even though she was in a different time period with complete strangers and a madman demanding her to be something she has no knowledge of, she was fairly calm. Then the first time we see her smile, it's when she sees something completely familiar. Her own face. Not only that, but she directs that smile toward the character that is going to become basically her little sister. The first one means so much and it's so important.
Within the same vein, her smile to Kotaro in episode 10 is one during an emotionally heavy moment. It's the first time he's hit an actual snag in his plans. Sakura's singular focus on the Arpino show rather than on the bigger picture of the group as a whole would have been a massive roadblock had she not realized her mistake.
Yugiri is the only one who properly realizes the reason they were sent into the mountains in the first place. Instead of simply sitting on the information, she's proactive about it and actually goes to discuss the problem with Kotaro. She wants to understand his reasoning so that she might be able to help him. And when she turns toward him, she also gives him the observations she's witnessed throughout her new life. This smile may be low on my list of favorites, but it's still unbelievably important.
...Also, when they released the preview image of this smile, my brain short-circuited for ten minutes, so it had to make it onto the list regardless.
8. Season Two, Episode One: The Professional Smile
Tumblr media
This smile isn't much out of the ordinary for what we've come to expect of Yugiri, but it's on here because this was our first look at Yugiri after basically two years of very little. None of us knew how the group would come back, how the writing team had incorporated the unexpected pandemic, how things would play out, or what would be happening. The Promo showed Tae's hand flying off to knock off Sakura's head, but as 2018 displayed, the promos can't always be trusted. This showed that, even in this new world where she's only been awake for a year, she's putting her skills to use and working just as hard as the others. Thanks to the conversation from Episode 10 of the first season, we know she was trained as a geisha which would make service work much easier than it would be for the other girls.
I don't have too much to say on this one, to be honest. I do like that she's in softer lighting, as opposed to the others who were all surrounded by harsh lighting on their season two introductions. The softer lighting lends itself well to the lack of pigment and coloration in the girls' makeup, allowing Yugiri to look like she has some color, even if she still looks somewhat pale and tired. It doesn't give her quite the same sickly look the others have at their jobs. The red dress? 100/10. Perfect decision.
7. Season One, Episode Five: The Proud Smile
Tumblr media
SHE. DOES. GYMNASTICS. She has every right to this smile! I did the math for this specific part of the episode and Yugiri got third place. The judges liked her rope aerobics so much, they shot her all the way to third place even though her distance was zero meters. It wouldn't have gotten her interviewed, but it would have at least put Franchouchou at the forefront. I still applaud Tae snagging first place, but Yugiri deserves some praise. She really did go face first into the mud on a bike and said, "Never again." She's so proud of herself. I'll be gushing about the actual gymnastics part in a different post a little later, too, but she definitely deserves to be proud of herself. I'm really gay...
6. Season One, Episode Four: The Cute Smile
Tumblr media
Originally, this was just going to be me doing some keysmash version of a squeal or something, but there's something I'd like to draw attention to. I'm pretty sure that, by this point, Franchouchou only knows two songs. Yomigaere, which was supposed to be performed in episode 2, and Mezame Returner, which is what's being performed here. Of these two, Yugiri has more experience with this one, but from what the audience had been shown, it wasn't good experience.
Memorizing the lyrics would have been the easy part for her. It's that a good portion of the dance practice was also spent helping Lily get the steps down and potentially calming her frustrations. Then the performance itself would have been a complete disaster if Junko and Ai hadn't gotten over themselves at the last minute to finally help.
This is the first successful performance of Mezame Returner we're witnessing and it's clear the group's had more practice since then. You can see how excited and happy Yugiri is here because this one is actually going well. They had a bit more time to prepare, the two lead roles were actually involved this time, and the audience also was clearly enjoying the performance. She's so happy and it's just so heart-warming to see. Yes, even with the CGI. Don't @ me, she looks adorable.
5. Season One, Episode Seven: The Sassy Smile
Tumblr media
This one also was just going to be a squealing keysmash thing, but again, I have something to point out. Look how much more confident she is now that Junko and Ai have, once again, gotten over themselves. Yugiri sees the effect that Junko stepping in had on the others and just like the rest of the group, her movements are more relaxed and free.
It's more obvious, actually, if you look at the way the other girls are moving directly after Junko helps Ai up in comparison to how Yugiri is moving. She did a spin while waiting for Sakura and Lily to finish their segment, and she could be cheeky during her own. She sensed that the tension had mostly dissolved and because of that, she allowed herself to relax and could properly throw herself into the performance. When she throws out this smile and wink, it's not actually directed at the audience. It's Yugiri telling the others that they've got this without breaking the performance.
4. Season Two, Episode Four: The Gentle Smiles
Tumblr media
I put both of these here because Yugiri's just... so... caring? So much of what she does is passive that you don't realize just how much work she puts into relieving the stress from the other girls until long after the problem has been resolved.
In the first, she's speaking to Sakura. No doubt, Yugiri probably noticed how worried Sakura was about Junko. Even though Sakura was trying not to let the others catch on just how anxious she really was, Yugiri still knew that something was bothering Sakura as well as Junko. Yugiri knew that the key to easing Junko's mind lay in placating Sakura first. She's seen what happens to them all when they fall apart and she wants to avoid that at all costs. So, Yugiri lifts Sakura's spirits and gives her back the fire and determination to make a great performance.
In the second, Yugiri is watching Junko eat. Unlike the others, it's clear Yugiri knows that Junko is in much higher spirits than when last they saw her. Junko would likely have still been a stuttering, quivering mess otherwise, but she wasn't stuttering and her actions were purposeful and self-assured. Yugiri is very observant. She would have caught on that something had happened to make Junko feel better. What makes this smile even better is that she's not the least bit disappointed. The reason she made dinner was to help Junko, but she doesn't view the meal as a waste of time. She's so focused on other people, that she's happy Junko is feeling better at all and even offers her different platters to help keep her mood up.
These are high on the list for two reasons. One, they're a show of just how much Yugiri does for her girls. Two, YUGIRI COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS HEADCANON CONFIRMED BITCHEEEESSS!!! I GOT ONE RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!
3. Season Two, Episode Six: The Affectionate Smile
Tumblr media
I will be completely honest, I have no idea why this one is as high as it is. I admit, I did spend three hours replaying this single thirty second scene because it's really sweet and Yugiri and Tae don't interact very often, so seeing Yugiri not only be worried for Tae, but also be immediately reassured that Tae would be fine was just something my heart didn't know it needed until it had it. The sheer level of affection Yugiri shows toward Tae is too adorable. Especially since Yugiri usually only has moments like those with Sakura and, to a lesser extent, Lily. This smile's really cute, it's in the middle of a wholesome scene, and it made me love both Yugiri and Tae that much more.
2. Season One, Episode Three: The Excited Smile
Tumblr media
Once again, an entry that was going to be a simple squealing keysmash until I realized there was something to point out here as well. This is the first smile we ever see from Yugiri that's genuinely enthusiastic. She has plenty of them, especially during her performances, but this is our first time seeing her fully incorporate herself into the group as an actual member and actually look excited to do something with the others. This was an omen of adorable things to come and damn did it deliver.
Honorable Mentions.
I'm only going to touch on each of these briefly because to be honest, there are a LOT of smiles I could've picked.
Tumblr media
The first one is from episode 6 when the group is talking about their very first meet-and-greet. Lily asks Yugiri if she's keeping up okay, and Yugiri remarks that she's taking things as they come. This was a small look into the kind of character she is. As I mentioned before, she's very passive in the way she operates, but that's to the benefit of those she cares for. This is her admitting that she doesn't want to be a problem and it's just sweet that even though Lily is worried about her, Yugiri's still highkey thinking about everyone else.
To the right is a shot of Yugiri during Electric Returner. This one is just the squealing keysmash because she looks so genuinely ecstatic, it's contagious. She's NO DAMN CLUE what happened or why they sound so different, but she is absolutely living her best second life.
The next shot comes from the beginning of Yomigaere and is somewhat of a repeat of the above. She's excited to perform for such a big crowd, she's glad Sakura finally agreed to actually participate, and she's living her best second life. Whoever animates Yugiri's CG model? I love you. I want to send you a gift basket. She's always so happy during performances.
Then comes her smile after the group finds out Sakura's memories are back. She's just glad Sakura, her Sakura, has come back to them, that she accepts her crap luck and is still willing to stay. For Yugiri, this goes under the list of Best Possible Outcomes. Her family is whole again and she's so relieved.
Last in the top row is the first full frontal shot we get of Yugiri in the Saga Jihen music video. She's so unbelievably adorable here. I wish I could've gotten her first expression, but the curtain was still rising and without photoshop, I'm not editing an image to the degree needed to get her whole face lightened. Point is, she's cute and everyone deserves to see her adorable face on the first song she got to be center for.
First on the bottom row is Yugiri looking apologetic from episode 8 of Revenge. She's so cute. It was an honest mistake and she had no way of knowing the paper belonged to Kiichi. No doubt, that was probably why she offered to help him rewrite them later.
Next is how cute she looks in big sister mode. She's wiping the mud from Kiichi's cheeks and is taking such care with him. Throughout the entire episode, she treats him like a little kid and it's likely because her role was big sister for so long that she doesn't know how not to treat him that way. It really does shed light on just how kind she is to everyone, though, that she doesn't even think about her dirty kimono and focuses on cleaning him up a little first.
Then we have her smiling at Kiichi as she remarks on how beautiful his dream of reviving Saga is. She even says she hopes it comes true. His dream means something to her. She can't even fully see it, he can't even fully see it, but they don't need to. What Itou didn't understand this whole time is something Yugiri understood immediately just from listening to Kiichi talk. They don't need to see it in their minds, all they need is to feel it in their hearts, and that's something Yugiri knows.
And lastly on the honorable mentions, because this post is already super long, Yugiri smiling while she's cooking for her guests. It was a tossup between this or the pinwheel because it's just really nice that Yugiri can simply enjoy mundane things. I chose this one because it's a direct contrast to how she was at the beginning. Before, she ate with a disinterested expression, but now, she's cooking for guests rather than just for herself. The lift in her mood is obvious, and it's something so small but so heartwarming, I couldn't resist.
I would've put the pinwheel moment anyway, but unfortunately, as a com major, formatting and design are everything and an extra picture on the top or bottom without a balancer would've thrown the whole thing off. Maybe next time.
NOW FOR NUMBER ONE
1. Season Two, Episode Eight: The Softest Smile
Tumblr media
This should have been expected. There's something genuinely touching about the fact that Yugiri really does give her everything, even to complete strangers. These girls barely know her, everyone in town barely knows her, but because her dance students suggested Yugiri go out and actually experience, Yugiri gives it actual thought. She doesn't dismiss them, she doesn't deride them, she doesn't make them feel foolish or anything like that. She treats their suggestion the same way she would if it had come from a close friend. And she does actually take them up on it.
Later, we see her come into contact with Kiichi to demonstrate that even full-on strangers aren't exempt from her kind heart, but this means more. All we know is that these girls take Yugiri's dance class, and from the way they speak when we first meet them, it's clear Yugiri has a professional wall between herself and those she instructs. But she still treats them as she would the girls back in Shimabara. It's proof that, even in the past, Yugiri really was just as kind-hearted as in the present. It's a show don't tell kind of thing that just speaks so deeply to the writer in me. I love this smile. It's everything. Her smiles are everything. She's everything.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series: The Rewatch pt.3
Ok, full disclosure: I should not be doing this right now. But I've been thinking about it since yesterday and, well, I reckon I can go over 1x4 and 5, and then move on to my actual work. So here we are. I'm really, really excited for these two, so without further ado, I'll dive right into:
1x4: It's hard to believe that I couldn't see... the majority of what happens in this episode when I first watched it
Why is Nini such a pro at making a scene with whoever her current boyfriend is in the middle of a public place? I mean, I get it that she's upset about EJ going through her phone — who wouldn't be — but maybe - and this is just a friendly suggestion — she could try and discuss that in private, not start a shouting match within view of all their classmates. Just saying.
'Ricky would never steal my phone' — well, perhaps not, but he's not quite above deleting stuff from it, either... I wonder if whoever is writing this show knows that there are many other ways to make a relationship unhealthy... it's not funny anymore. Just repetitive.
Ahhh Natalie and her emotional support hamster! At least there's one good thing about this scene.
Sure, Ricky, blame Big Red for the fact that you misplace your stuff... a very nice best friend he's got, indeed.
Gosh, everything is so awkward and there is just so much tension all over the place — Ricky's parents, then EJ and Nini, and then Carlos just being oblivious to the fact that they just broke up... you know, that last part just made me laugh. And then Ricky's reaction to his parents legally separating just broke my heart. That boy's been through too much.
Big Red being completely clueless about theatre terms is super funny and endearing, but let me just put myself in his shoes for a sec. He's followed his best friend into a badly thought-out scheme to get back together with his ex, got dragged into joining the crew, and is now expected to know what everything is. I would not put up with that... ok, who are we kidding, I'm a massive pushover and would put up with anything, but my point is... he shouldn't have to. At least people are doing the bare minimum to help him learn and nobody's laughed at him for not knowing. That's the good thing about this crew.
Ok, so I have posted about my thoughts of their take on What I've Been Looking For before, back when the episode was brand new, so I won't go into detail about that. In short, I think they've got the arrangement all wrong considering that it is a plot point in the original movie, but... the execution is funny. The scene is about Nini and EJ's post-breakup tension and it shows. I just kind of wish now Miss Jenn had pulled Nini out and put Gina in, even just for this rehearsal — and I might or might not be saying this as a Portwell shipper.
Miss Jenn is done with the students' personal drama and honestly, I'm right behind her. These kids are being completely unprofessional — and well, I realise that we can't expect them to be professional at this stage, but... they could at least try to concentrate on rehearsal and not their personal lives for a second.
Ricky hugging a cushion is my spirit animal. That's it, that's the comment.
Ahhh the tension between EJ and Gina though... 'around here seniors don't follow sophomores' — well, we'll see how it goes, Mr. Senior.
What gives Nini the right to shout at strangers about their relationship? I am honestly so frustrated with her these days. Wonder why I never was during season 1. The reasons are all there.
'He loves you' — yeah, like a little sister, he does. Also, Ash is so precious, always trying to see the good in other people. EJ 1.0 is so lucky he had her as an example.
Ok, I'm not going to go into what an amazing best friend Big Red is because we all know that (plus I'm saving it for a certain scene in 1x5), but this must be so hard for him. I mean, he's trying his absolute best to help Ricky feel better and distract him from his problems, and Ricky is turning everything down. I mean, I guess I understand where he's coming from too, but I'm unable to look at things through the lead-centric lens alone anymore. I'm more aware of non-lead characters now (some more so than others) and this is putting a whole new spin on my perception of everything that happens.
I've got no idea how Big Red can sleep with all this noise, though. I could never. But to each their own.
'perfect on paper' — that's EJ 1.0 to a T. I've got to give Nini that.
Ricky wearing the pride t-shirt... we love to see it.
See, this is why I keep forgetting why I ever shipped Rini and then remembering again... their chemistry is just so on-again-off-again, and here it's definitely present, but I just need a couple with consistent chemistry, you know. Hey, isn't that kind of what All I Want is about? Kind of. I don't know. I've been unable to listen to that song ever since it got big irl. I have this... problem with media that becomes popular and mainstream... I mean, I never hold a grudge against things just for being popular, but I just... relate to underrated stuff much easier. Not because it's underrated, but it just so happens that nearly everything I like and relate to is underrated in some capacity. Even HSMTMTS itself — it's practically unheard of here in Bulgaria, so I would not have found it if I hadn't been looking for it specifically. Ok, this comment got derailed several times. I guess I'll just stop here and move right on to 1x5 at this point.
1x5: A bedazzled tablecloth, a perfectly balanced unicycle and bad reception at the barn... not the perfect ingredients, but they can still... Work This Out
'Miss Jenn says that's a life in the arts... well, that and almost constant unemployment' — alright, I know this line is not supposed to be funny, and that it's a painful reality for a lot of people, but... maybe it's the delivery. I just laugh every time.
See, this is what I mean when I say I want to see consistent chemistry — Seblos have it. I mean, I really don't want to jinx things, but... they do.
Big Red seems to be in a more... outspoken mood today, I guess you could say. Too bad Ricky is still shutting everything he says down. Seriously, Big Red and Seb should start a club for people who try their best to be there for their loved ones and still keep being shushed.
I might be super frustrated with nearly everything Nini says and does (can somebody please tell me why that is?), but... flushing her dress down the toilet? Major mood.
Listen, I love Miss Jenn and that she's close to her students, but... emerging from a toilet cubicle and inviting herself to Kourtney and Nini's girls' night was... Will Shuester level of questionable.
Ricky being the mature one about his parents separation is... I mean, it's admirable, but how did he move past the impending depression of last episode and towards being the one who tells his dad to get up and move on? Well, I mean, good for him. But I think the issue is far from buried yet.
'Friend of the year'? Ricky? I don't think so. First of all, if he were, he'd know that Big Red does not have two left feet. Wasn't it you, Ricky, who was stumbling over the steps in HSM a couple of weeks ago? You're one to talk. Plus Big Red's been listening and trying to help while you've just been spouting off about your personal problems for... how long has it been now? I get it, Ricky has issues that he needs to work through, but he's almost legally blind in both eyes when it comes to Big Red.
Ok, but Ricky is the epitome of 'cannot solve his own problems but has a suggestion on how everybody else should solve theirs' in this episode. Maybe take a step back and listen to your own advice?
'My parents think I'm bonding with the livestock' — I've got no idea why I find this line so funny, but I do. And I've got so much love for this entire scene. Carlos' reaction to Seb's response to his invitation is just... the most adorable thing ever! My heart might just burst. Especially given what we're about to go through tomorrow in 2x10... I am. Not. Ready.
The entire karaoke scene just reminds me of... pretty much every extended family reunion on my mum's side. Her cousins love karaoke and are also completely tone-deaf. I love it that they're able to have fun with it, but my ears are still recovering from my great aunt's birthday party two years ago.
'When did you become Nini?' — Why does Mr. Mazzara know so much about his students' dating lives? I mean, Miss Jenn does, too, but he doesn't strike me as someone as invested in them as her. Idk, it just struck me as kind of weird.
'I didn't agree to photos' — please, EJ, I'm sure you'll want memories from your first fake-dating gig with Gina... once you're no longer fake-dating, you know. Boy, these two are going to have stories to tell to their grandchildren.
I've said some stuff about Nini, but... 'a bedazzled tablecloth' is the funniest description I've heard for Gina's homecoming dress.
'Maybe it's not actually about you at all.' Yeah, you tell him, Reddy! Ricky needs to get over himself.
The way Big Red sniffs out the drama, though... I was not-so-randomly reminded of that moment in 2x9 where Seb was like Carlos. and Big Red was like, 'Are you guys fighting?'...
Big Red doing a comedic lip-reading of Gina and EJ's dramatic scene is absolutely hilarious. I might or might not have sold my heart and soul to him after seeing that scene for the first time. But I just remembered how he said earlier that maybe he can't read lips and that just makes this 100% funnier — he was basically like a child who can't read yet making up a story based on the pictures in a book, and I mean it in the best way possible. He's a theatre dark horse, this one, and they should all be intimidated — or inspired, whatever they choose — by his hidden talents. Gosh, I love this guy. But can you blame me?
'You think I'm actually going to confide in you?' — Absolutely. You can't bully someone from your position of authority over them and then act like you're their friend. I do know now that Mr. Mazzara has hidden depths, but he had no right to be as rude to Carlos as he was in 1x3. He was right about one thing, though — Carlos doesn't need a dance partner to dance.
Ricky saying he was going to apologise to Gina and counting that as an apology is giving me major TJ/ Buffy flashbacks. I wonder why that is... * sarcasm *
Nini feeling like a fraud makes me actually sympathise with her for a second. But I feel like Nini's flaw of defining herself through boys and Ricky in particular has been addressed one time too many now, since it was first addressed here in this episode. If they make her and Ricky get back together again in season 2, I will riot. [side note: I feel like the Born to Be Brave scene says a lot about both Rini and Seblos as couples. Nini and Carlos both feel, in the moments leading up to the song, like they are incomplete without their partners. Ricky, too, has built his personality entirely around Nini at that time (and is still not completely over that in s2). And then the song comes in to remind them that they don't need a partner to be happy. I'm just thinking of Big Red's 'perfectly balanced unicycle' comment from the promotional materials, and of how he and Ashlyn, even when they're dating in s2, are never portrayed as being incomplete without each other. I guess there's a reason why they're the Beta Couple of the show — their relationship drama is nearly non-existent, and when it does exist, it's just caused by them caring too much about each other. Every other couple on the show should learn from them.]
Everybody supporting Carlos during the Born to Be Brave number just warms my heart so much... I am actually crying real tears. And then the end, when Seb finally shows up, right in time for the slow dance... I have a lot of feelings about this scene.
Seblos' dialogue here still kind of makes me cringe a little... but like, in a good way.
Yikes... Miss Jenn's getting into trouble... I mean, it was bound to happen sooner or later. But she's lucky she's had enough time with her students for them to love her enough to fight for her. Still, this is a topic for another episode, and so I won't expand on it in this post.
Well, that's it. That was 1x4 and 5. Those were pretty much my favourite episodes when season 1 was airing. And I can definitely see why, even if my views on some things have changed due to stuff that happens later. But, as I constantly say, that's what rewatches are for. In other words, 'once more, with feeling this time' as my choir director used to say.

Controlled Explosions
Fandom: Marvel
Pairing: Steve Rogers/Tony Stark
Warnings: Normal superhero shenanigans
Summary: Tony doesn't go out of his way to create explosions. He just happens to be in a lot of situations where things explode, and that's hardly his fault, is it, Steve?
Five times Tony is the cause of an explosion, and one time someone else tries to be. Written for MTH2020
Read below or on AO3
1. Define 'controlled explosion'
"You said it would be a controlled explosion," Steve said.
"Yeah," Tony said, confused, and still-- if he was being honest-- having a little trouble hearing. He'd been a bit closer to the bomb when it went off than he'd meant to be. "It was."
"That was not controlled!"
At some other time, it would be fascinating to see the differences between Steve in Captain America mode and when he wasn't. When he'd been in Cap-mode, talking to Tony about how setting off the explosion early might be a bad idea, he'd been very calm about it all. Now that he was just Tony's boyfriend, he was kind of freaking out.
Tony blinked at him in confusion. It had been controlled. "The previous location of the bomb would've brought the whole building down. I know you don't really understand chain reactions, but suffice it to say that we saved an entire city block by moving it."
"For fuck's sake, Tony! I told you to go ahead because you made me think it was going to be safe!"
"I never said it was safe. I said that it was safer than letting it go off where it had been placed, which was true."
"You said it would be a controlled explosion!"
"And it was. Maybe you should look up what an uncontrolled explosion looks like," Tony said, patting him on the arm then getting on his tiptoes for a quick kiss before leaving. He needed to take a shower and get some of this grime off. He heard Steve say something in response, but it was too low for him to really make out with his ears still ringing-- and not facing him, so he couldn't read his lips and try to piece it together. He imagined that it was something half-loving and half-derogatory, since that's what Steve usually did when Tony did something dangerous in the field. If it was really important, Steve would say it again.
2. Who knew that artifact would explode?
Despite what some people-- like Steve, Coulson, the rest of the Avengers really-- thought about Tony and his workshop, he did practice safe procedures. What they didn't seem to really understand was that there were situations where he could be safe and shit would still go wrong.
Like this. This was an alien artifact, and Thor was out of contact dealing with royal Asgard business-- presumably; it's not like he'd filled them in, just said that he had to go home and would be back as soon as he could-- so Tony was guessing. He had on thick gloves and goggles, and he wasn't even touching the glowing sphere directly, which was progress that he thought they should be appreciative of. He had tools. Not as easy to work with as his own fingers, but it was still good enough that he'd been able to pry away part of the outside protective, metal shell.
He gingerly placed the tongs on the inside and made to turn it so he could confirm that it was the same all around, but he didn't get the chance. An explosion rocked the workshop, leaving a crater where his table used to be and blowing him halfway across the room.
"Huh," Tony said, then started coughing. Bright side? He still had all his fingers. The tongs he'd been using were vaporized as best he could tell. In fact, everything metal within a foot of the sphere was now gone. Tony's gloves were untouched. He pulled one off and slid the goggles off his face so he could get a better look at them. The lenses were fine, as expected. Most of the components were plastic, but there were a couple places that had metal pins, just to help hold it together. The pins were gone. One firm tug, and the strap would disconnect from the lenses.
Half the team-- the half that had been in the Tower-- came running into the room. Tony gave a half-hearted wave, still coughing.
"What happened?" Natasha asked.
"Well, let's look on the bright side," Tony said roughly, pushing himself to his feet. "I'm still alive." If he'd been closer to it when it went off, it would've taken a chunk out of the arc reactor. Its range had been small enough that he was safe. It was obvious that things hadn't gone as wrong as they could have, so he didn't see why they were looking at him with that much concern. He coughed again. "Maybe I'll call the Fantastic Four to take this one over." He didn't want to, but he hadn't been having any luck with it before it took a bite out of his workshop. If nothing else, it wouldn't instantly kill any of them if they were standing too close. Besides, Reed was pretty good about passing information back to him. And if there was any superhero group he had to work with, he'd choose the Fantastic Four every time.
"Yeah, I don't think that really answered the question," Clint said. "You're lucky Cap's not here, or you'd find yourself wrapped in a blanket before you took another breath."
Tony flipped him off. He should probably go to medical. There hadn't been any smoke, but he was coughing like there had been. What a pain.
3. Oxygen works differently here
Other planets were weird. He could tell, just by breathing, that the air here wasn't what they were used to. The good news was that they were all still alive and were going to stay that way for a while. The Guardians-- short for Guardians of the Galaxy-- were explaining a few things to Steve. Apparently, the villain that had transported them here was one that had beef with the Guardians, and Steve wanted to be prepared in case it happened again.
Tony knew that he was going to have to wait until they were done with the official superhero talk before he had a chance to ask them about atmosphere, gravity, and what it was like to have more than one moon. He also had a few questions about the air, because this was definitely not the cocktail he was used to.
He was feeling... high, almost. It could be any number of things, but higher oxygen levels would be the answer easiest to solve on his own. If he lit a match and it burned bigger than usual, it was oxygen. If it was brighter, it was nitrogen. If it did both or a weird mixture of other stuff, he'd have no idea what it was without taking a sample of the air and analyzing it. Chemistry wasn't his strong point when it came to the sciences, but he knew the basics. Enough to make sense of breathable air, at the very least.
Nothing wrong with a little test. He had a laser in the armor, but that wasn't as predictable as regular fire even though it was easier for him to access. He had a lighter in one of the fingers of the armor, so he held his hand as far away from himself as he could for a better view, and activated it.
It went off like a fucking firework. Tony deactivated the lighter almost as soon as he'd started it, but the damage had been done. "Shit," he bit out, jerking his hand back, but he could tell that his hand had already been injured. The suit was protected from the outside, not the inside, and since it had been his lighter that had started it... yeah. That shit stung.
Even after turning off the lighter, the fire persisted. Tony cocked his head as the flames stayed where it had stared but lasted longer on its own than a fire could on Earth without something to hold onto. Despite knowing that nothing was helping it keep burning, Tony couldn't help but peer at it, trying to find a wick or gas line.
That was a bit more than he'd expected. It took a full eight seconds for the fire to burn itself out.
"Huh." Weird. He really should ask- that thought stopped cold when he turned and saw everyone staring at him.
"Dude," Sam said.
Steve's mouth was slightly ajar, like he wanted to ream into Tony for being stupid but didn't know where to start.
"In case anyone was wondering, this air isn't the same as what we have on Earth."
"Yeah, thanks Tony," Natasha said dryly.
"Always happy to help. Uh. Anyone got burn cream?"
"Is he like this all the time?" one of the Guardians-- a new one, Tony didn't remember their name-- asked.
"Yeah," Steve said.
4. Home-made, on a budget
"This has got to be one of the worst things we've done," Steve said under his breath.
"Is it?" Tony asked absently, looking at the chemical breakdown of the fertilizer. Hmph. Better for soil probably, but not really what he was looking for. He put it down and picked up the brand next to it. Ah, this was more like it. He set it down and squatted to get the big bag and add it to the cart.
"No weapons, no intel. Why aren't you freaking out?"
"No weapons is a very closed-minded view of the situation, babe."
"What, are you going to drown people in fertilizer?" Steve asked. He sounded genuinely confused, which was weird. Tony had thought everyone these days knew that fertilizer could be used in explosives.
"Just keep pushing the cart and leave this part to me," Tony said, because he figured that giving a quick chemistry lesson in the middle of the gardening section was a bad idea. See? He was getting better at this whole pretending-to-be-a-normal-person thing. No matter what Clint said.
"I'm not stupid," Steve said, and Tony was familiar enough with him to catch the irritation there.
"Never meant to imply you were, but I figured we should get in and out before we get caught." Ooo, Christmas lights. He didn't know what he would've done if they'd had to buy normal lightbulbs for this; it would've taken like five boxes instead of just the one, and they would've been less effective since they were for everyday use and used a completely different composition for the bulb covering. "Besides," Tony said, aiming a grin back at him, "you'll probably figure it out as we put these together."
"You're making stuff we can use," Steve stated, like he hadn't really known what they were doing here. Tony would like to pretend to be offended that Steve thought he'd be gift shopping at a time like this, but he'd done that during a crisis before. Then, "Are you sure it'll be powerful enough?"
"We're not blowing up a bunker. This'll be plenty. There's a lot more firepower in everyday household items than you'd think."
"Clearly," Steve muttered.
"Trust me, Cap, by the time we're back in the Tower, you'll know enough to be able to put together your own pipe bomb for the next time you get stranded like this."
"I'm hoping this is the only time."
"With our lives?" Tony asked, raising an eyebrow. "What kind of odds are you being given on that? I don't think even a hundred to one would be worth it when you know you're going to lose. Or rather, I know you're going to lose, and since I have more experience, I feel like you should listen to me."
Steve rolled his eyes, but with more humor than before. Apparently, knowing that Tony had the situation in hand was enough to soothe all of his worries.
"Hey, you should be happy this place even has a hardware store. There's like, one gas station with a McDonald's attached, and then this store. I don't think I'd be able to do a lot of damage with whatever I could find in a McDonald's."
"I have faith in Iron Man's ability to save us," Steve said, and when Tony glanced at him, he was looking at him fondly and with a healthy dose of love thrown in for good measure. He'd gotten used to that expression on Steve's face in a hurry.
5. Bucky agreed with me
It had seemed like a good idea at the time. Famous last words, Tony knew, but it really had. He'd tell Steve that he regretted it, if that's what he wanted to hear, but he held that it was a good idea. That it was bad for PR was hardly his fault, and frankly, he didn't understand why it would be bad for PR anyways. It was a Hydra base! They were Nazis, and everyone hated Nazis. If anything, him and Bucky should get a thank you card for performing a public service.
He got the distinct feeling that Steve wouldn't agree with that, though.
"What were you thinking?" Steve asked, looking a little frazzled around the edges. Given that he was having to deal with Tony and Bucky for this, that made sense. Normally it was one or the other. Now, he was outnumbered.
"It seemed like a good idea," Tony said, and Bucky nodded.
"A really good idea," Bucky added.
"You blew up a building!"
"There weren't any other buildings around it," Tony said.
"No civilian casualties," Bucky said.
"It's still personal property damage, and I thought we all agreed to try and cut down on that."
"Do we care about Hydra's personal property?" Tony asked, frowning. He'd been under the distinct impression that they didn't. For fuck's sake, it was Hydra they were talking about.
"Officially, the Hydra organization itself didn't own the building or the land," Steve said.
"How do you know that?" Bucky asked curiously, which was a good point. Since when did Steve pay attention to details like that? It wasn't exactly something he could know just from paying attention to the situation.
"Agent Coulson told me. As our handler, it's his job to know those details and share them with us as he sees fit."
"Damn, are you quoting the handbook now?" Bucky said, raising an eyebrow.
"Besides, if Agent is our handler, then it's his job to take care of the buildings we blow up."
"Tony, stop missing the point on purpose."
"Who said I'm missing it on purpose? Maybe I'm missing it on accident, you don't know."
Steve gave him a flat look. "You can't go around blowing up buildings just because you feel like it." He looked at Bucky. "I get that you want to, and as your friend, I support you. As the team leader and another Avenger, I have to tell you to stop. We don't get to do whatever we want."
"Yeah yeah, there are rules, we all agreed to them, we'll be better next time, all that jazz," Tony said, throwing an arm around Steve's shoulders and getting up on his toes to give him a quick kiss.
Steve just sighed. "I love both of you, but seriously, what the hell?" He put his arm around Tony's waist since he didn't move to walk away. "We've been fine on this for a couple years. What made this different?"
Tony and Bucky shared a look. They hadn't agreed not to tell anyone, but there had been an unspoken understanding that the less people knew about it, the better off they'd all be. "It was a research lab," Bucky said, and he left it at that. They didn't need to elaborate what kind of research, because Steve knew that any research Hydra was doing was bad news. The only way they'd had of making sure that none of the research was recovered was by getting rid of the entire building. Whatever hadn't been destroyed in the initial blast was then rendered unrecoverable when the roof collapsed on top of it all.
Steve glanced between the two of them. He knew that basic research wouldn't have gotten this reaction, but Hydra didn't do 'basic' research; there wasn't any point in being an evil organization if you were going to be moral with your experiments. Tony could see it on the tip of his tongue that he wanted to ask what kind of research, but none of it made it out of his mouth. "Okay. You know the speech. Don't do it again, formal apology if Agent Coulson says it's required, all that crap."
"Done," Bucky said immediately, and Tony gave Steve another soft kiss in thanks. They both knew that Steve was on their side for stuff like this, but sometimes he wanted so badly to be a good Captain America that it muddied the waters.
+1. Half-heart, Half-bomb
"I guess that's one explosion you finally don't have to worry about," Tony joked with a tremulous smile.
Steve smiled back, just as weakly. They were both pretending. Tony wondered how long that would last before Steve couldn't take it anymore and worried over him in a more obvious manner. It would probably last all the way up until they were back home, with the doors shut and no outside eyes on them. Then he was going to worry like the world's biggest mother hen. For now though, Tony was grateful for him trying.
The whir of the quinjet was comforting to him now like it had never been before. Tony didn't know what was wrong with him. He'd been in dangerous situations a hundred times before, as Iron Man. Hell, he'd been in more dangerous situations than the one he'd just gotten rescued from.
The problem, he guessed, was that... well, this one hit closer to home. It was the arc reactor. It was a part of him. Having that be turned against him felt like a betrayal, somehow.
Since becoming Iron Man, he'd done his fair share of starting fires and creating explosions-- more than his fair share, if you asked Steve. With Obadiah, he'd used the first arc reactor that Howard had built as a bomb. A small one, considering the amount of firepower it had, but a bomb all the same. To see the same thing happen to his own had been nothing short of a nightmare. The kind of nightmare that woke you up in the middle of the night, shaking and clammy. He'd woken up from a drugged sleep and seen wires coming out of his chest. He hadn't been convinced that it wasn't a vivid hallucination, at first, but it hadn't stopped him from panicking.
They got to the Tower, headed inside, and went straight to their room. Well, officially it was Tony's room, but it was only a matter of time before Steve moved in.
"You want to talk about it?" Steve asked.
Tony rubbed over the arc reactor reflexively. He couldn't feel any sensation from it, but he could feel the heel of his palm on one side, and the tips of his fingers on the other. The fact that his palm wasn't skipping over emptiness did quite a bit to reassure him that he was fine. The problem, of course, was that he already knew he was fine. He was here, and he wasn't in pain. Steve was here, and they weren't in a battle. He knew that everything was fine.
Now if he could just stop freaking out about it.
"It wasn't even a good bomb," Tony said, the words slipping out of his mouth one after another. "Like, can you imagine making a bomb out of someone's pacemaker, so it would kill them, but you're not even going to get the destruction radius that you want? The arc reactor has so much energy that you could easily level a city block, but with the way they did it, it wouldn't have gone more than ten feet. It wouldn't have made it through a wall if I'd been standing right next to it. What kind of bullshit villain do you have to be to not know how to properly make a bomb? The only one it would've killed was- me, and- it's not like there aren't easier ways of- doing that. It's like-" He was having trouble breathing now. He was talking himself into a panic.
Steve wrapped him up in a hug, and Tony hid his face against Steve's neck. "They're stupid, you're not. We're gonna wake up tomorrow and get to do whatever the hell we want, and they won't be able to. It's gonna be okay. We all know you're better at this than anyone else, right?" he added on the end, smiling a little to try and raise Tony's spirits even though he couldn't see him; Tony always said that he loved Steve's smile.
"Yeah." He took a shaky breath in. It was weird; he felt like he was closer to falling apart now than he'd been while it was happening. Once he'd figured out that he wasn't trapped in the middle of a nightmare, he'd been able to deal with it. Grace under pressure or something, he guessed. It didn't make much sense to him for why he should be so calm then only to fall into pieces now. And he did. Fall into pieces, that is.
Steve just held him and said, "You're safe now. I've got you."
He didn't cry, not really. Mostly he stood there, shaking and clinging to Steve like a lifeline. He knew that he'd feel better by tomorrow, but for now, he let himself feel bad.
