Shadowhunters fans, someone show this to the Herondales:

I mean, I was just doing homework today and suddenly I read "The Demon Duck of Doom". And like, what did you just say? Duck? Oh hell nah. Will and Jace actually had a point?

You didn't think i would forget our one and only golden boy birthday right? Cause i definetely didn't. Happy birthday Jace Herondale, thank you for showing me how much love a person can give, i wish i could tell you how much of it you deserve, cause it's a lot 🧡
Tumblr media
Every student, Shadowhunter and mundane alike, knew the name Herondale. It was Jace’s last name. It was the name of heroes.
"Just because you call an electric eel a rubber duck doesn't make it a rubber duck, does it? And God help the poor bastard who decides they want to take a bath with the duckie. "
“What’s the Nephilim motto again?” “ We are dust and shadows,” said Ty, not looking up from his book. “Some of us are very handsome dust,” Jace added.
"One minute you're munching on a faerie plum the next minute you're running naked down Madison Avenue with antlers on your head. Not," he added hastily, "that this has ever happened to me."
“What happens in the demon realms stays in the demon realms.”
I thought: classic Jace. Never makes a mess when a total catastrophe will do.
“I’ll find you something. Something that says Herondale.” “I could slay with my deadly sense of humor and wicked charm,” said Kit. “Now that says Herondale.” Jace looked pleased.
"I don't want to be a man," said Jace. "I want to be an angst-ridden teenager who can't confront his own inner demons and takes it out verbally on other people instead."
"It means 'Shadowhunters: Looking Better in Black Than the Widows of our Enemies Since 1234'."
"I've heard the word 'fear'. I simply choose to believe it doesn't apply to me."
“You are a great deal of trouble, Jace herondale.” “So I’ve been told” jace said.
"I'll just have them change the entry in the demonology textbook from 'almost extinct' to 'not extinct enough for Alec. He prefers his monsters really, really extinct.' Will that make you happy?"
He understands why people hold hands: he’d always thought it was about possessiveness, saying This is mine. But it’s about maintaining contact. It is about speaking without words. It is about I want you with me and don’t go.
"I swear on the Angel." He ducked his head down, kissed her cheek. "The hell with that. I swear on us."
"There is no pretending," Jace said with absolute clarity. "I love you, and I will love you until I die, and if there is life after that, I'll love you then."
"I know it's wrong - God, it's all kinds of wrong - but I just want to lie down with you and wake up with you, just once, just once ever in my life."
Jace, who had asked Alec to be his parabatai and then always pretended as if he did not need one. Alec was not fooled.
"Don’t carry the weight of the world on you Jace. It’s too heavy for even a Herondale to bear."
"You had - so much love, and so much forgiveness, and so much faith. So I started to think that maybe I was worth that faith. That I didn't have to be perfect; I had to try, and that was good enough."
"I only have two reactions to bad news. Uncontrollable rage and then a sharp left turn into boiling self-hatred."
"To love is to destroy, and that to be loved is to be destroyed"

K fun facts for the au’s:
- Alex does keep the key necklace on at all times. If asked he’ll say why he wears it.
- His parents are divorced ( this also adds to why Alex is so damn messy ) and his older sister, June, does exist. She’s hella protective of her brother, especially if the au involves Henry being Alex’s ex.
- He aspires to study law so he can help those who can’t help themselves because he truly believes he was put in this world to help out.
- He doesn’t want to run for governor or president but he’s aiming for maybe running for senate, much like his mentor Rafael did. And in Texas because that’s his hometown and where he wants to settle.
- Is a big animal lover but turkeys scare the crap out of him. He still can’t get over Cornbread traumatizing him as a teen. (Think of TMI and how the Herondales are scared shitless of ducks)
- If you want the angst, Henry can be his ex-bf. Let’s just say that when Alex stormed Kensington and told Henry that if he wants Alex to leave, he had to tell him? Well Henry did and he left. Alex not only got his heart broken that night, but also a part of his soul. If you choose this route then godspeed bc Alex is not the same person he used to be. He’s now more careful to fall in love with someone, has insane trust issues and when he does fall for someone, he clings to whoever he dates for fear of not being good enough for them and getting dumped all over again.
-if you don’t want Henry as his ex then it’s cool bc Henry can just not exist op writing that hurt me too ok I cry
- Whiskey and coffee all around. Those are his drinks of choice.
Safe to say, no matter the au, BOOK Alex is my canon and I’m here to answer any and all questions you may have.
Thank you and g’night.

🍏Will Herondale
Hi anon, thanks for the ask!!
🍏 - Will Herondale
My beloved, my absolute bestie I LOVE THIS MAN. He's so funny, and I love his friendship with Jem so much. Also goes without saying I am completely in love with him I just want him to give me a hug, and also to give him a hug cause he needs it. I just couldn't understand him at the start of tid when he was being mean (couldn't help but love him even then tho), and then finding out the reason why he was pushing everyone away was heartbreaking, and then to discover that it was all a trick was just... there's something so tragic about his childhood and how much he lost because of what happened, and it just like... I could cry I'm not even-
Personally I don't ship him romantically with Jem (obviously full respect for those who would disagree with me, no hate at all), I absolutely love their friendship and again it's so tragic how little time they got to properly spend together. Also his relationship with Magnus!! I love them as a duo it's so good 😂
I just like... I can't express how much I love him. Also he's Welsh, so that immediately scores points with me 😌 if they make a TV show of tid and make Will English I will actually riot
Also him sort of living on in the tmi gang, with Jace's general vibes (and fear of ducks ofc) and Alec's appearance makes me happy :)
In conclusion: 10/10, if he had a booktok I would follow it and turn notifications on for his posts, he's definitely one of my favourites I just love himmmmmm ugh
Also Jessa naming Mina after him 🥺 and he and Tessa doing the same with James and Jem 🥺🥺🥺

Reflections: She got better after Clace concerning tropes
(NB... this is gonna be my last Reflections because I've got uni and shit to take on in September 😗)
Okay, so we know Cassandra Clare uses age-old tropes in her books: enemies-to-lovers, strangers-to-lovers, friends-to-lovers, the evil seductress, the fearless warrior, the secret special snowflake, etc. However, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, becuse it’s sort of impossible to create written media without using any tropes. It’s how you use the tropes that makes written media interesting, and what I’ve noticed is that Cassie has gotten better at using tropes and paragons since TMI in her books by adding little twists and turns to them to avoid them becoming generic.
Starting off with TMI and Clace for example, we see that Clary is the classic “special teen with hidden powers that discovers a new supernatural world”, falling into that category with Bella Swan, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, etc. Jace is the aloof hottie with a Dark Past, and operates like a modern day Achilles if he made it out of Elysium, lmao. He’s pretty akin to Edward Cullen, Peter Mellarke, Dimitri Belikov, etc. Clace and their character arcs especially in the first TMI trilogy were pretty generic, even at the time they were published. (NB but Jace really is Achilles man like he’s *golden*, has the military-type fighting skills and discipline, powerful daddy issues, best of the Shadowhunters kinda like how Achilles was the best of the Greeks, feared and lauded by everyone, believed he’s destined for tragedy).
But looking at TID, for example, Cassie went with the Love Triangle trope that was especially popular around the time that TID was written, and she was like “oh hell no” and then created the greatest thing in the world known as Herongraystairs *Spongebob rainbow gif*. The late 2000s were kind of a mild time, and the rule of thumb was that the the main girl just had to end up picking one man in the triangle but nawww Cassie decided that Tessa Gray (bless her) would get both of her male counterparts at appropriate times, love them equally AND have it happen without any hostility between them. She completely outdid the Love Triangle trope.
I made a post discussing why Jemma is a great ship and a great spin on the Forbidden Lovers trope already, but I also need to say that Julian is an exceptional character. He, without hesitation, takes on the most traditional of feminine roles in the series yet isn’t feminine at all- he’s a very masculine protagonist. Julian’s more masculine roles (being a leader in a political revolution, being a schemer, being a fighter) are perfectly foiled with the traits which often assigned to female YA protagonists (no sexual experience before Emma, raises his siblings and bakes and shit, isn’t the one who’s snarky and quips or gets violent quickly). In having Julian take on the main parent role in TDA, it allowed Cassie to show a YA male lead who’s secure and doesn’t depend on what others make traditional masculinity out to be in order to dictate his behavior.
Now let’s look at TLH lastly. I’m really partial to this series as you all may know *cough*. The trope here is Secrets and Miscommunication (which I know some of you absolutely hate, but I think some of said miscommunication is actually necessary given the social context of the series but alas, I don’t blame yall for hating TLH because of this at all, lol). See, what works about the whole secrets and miscommunication trope tho is that everyone is not what they seem. Like Matthew’s the Wildean Libertine right, but he’s actually managed to use that branding as a shield from the shame of his guilt (Oscar Wilde’s philosophy laudes beauty and love, yet Matthew himself does not believe himself to be worthy of this coveted love - Matthew’s soul has turned Gothic despite his self-branding as an aesthete). Grace is the Evil Seductress, the Femme Fatale who must be eliminated so the Good Girl can get the guy, but in reality, Grace is inquisitive and inventive and loving when she’s not guarded - the one woman who the world thinks is heartless is actually the one who hurts the most and enjoys hurting the least. Then we have the James who’s the Eligible Bachelor - he’s well read, a leader, good at Shadowhunting, polite, handsome, and desired by the ladies of London. Yet at his core runs Belial’s blood and his inevitable ties to literal Hell. James, who should be the classic charming hero, is running from something very unmistakably rotten within him (even though his heritage is beyond his control). So these societal paragons are all tinged with something unexpected that makes them interesting imo.
So yeah, to conclude: yes, Cassie’s writing uses a lot of generic tropes but I’d argue that her writing has improved to make age-old tropes and epithets interesting and novel as TSC progresses. I think we also could all attribute the creation of the Herondale to Cassie: obnoxiously attractive and poetic young male with a bottomless heart and strong opinions on the proclivities and capabilities of ducks? Yeah, that’s a Herondale.

Shout out to the one and only duck-fearing William Herondale, who even though he thought he couldn't be loved found love by his friends and family and kept fighting when it was hard and he thought he had to push everyone away. Tessa loves him, Jem loves him and so does the fandom.
Happy B-day!!🎉🎉

Is that you?
a short fic about what happens when jem dies because i need more angst in my life
characters: james carstairs, tessa gray, kit herondale, ty blackthorn, mina carstairs, jace herondale, emma carstairs, julian blackthorn, church, magnus bane
place: cirenworth hall
warning: death of a major character, lot of tearS
!SPOILERS FOR THE INFERNAL DEVICES AND THE DARK ARTIFICES!
the clouds were weeping the day jem carstairs died.
he was in his and tessa's bed, he looking old enough to be her grandfather, but to their friends and family they were just jem and tessa, tessa and jem.
people came and went all day, knowing it would be the last time they saw him. tessa was by his side the whole time.
magnus came and reminisced that time when will put his hands into that one fire for him but got carried out of the room because jem was dying. one of his oldest friends was dying.
jace came and said the time brother zachariah helped him, saved his life, and he would not be here without him. jem accepted this with a small smile.
emma and julian came, talking about the time he was there for them, bright and cheerful like a sun who would never go out. they had to go because emma was crying and shaking so hard because jem was dying. the man who was like a older brother and like a second father to her was dying.
church would not get up from jem's chest. magnus took him with him but the cat would not stop screaming and wailing.
mina, their beautiful daughter, was by their side all day, crying but not leaving his side. she reminded him of the time will's ghost taught her the demon pox song and she and kit would not stop singing it. jem was too weak to say anything, but he took her hand in his and squeezed it lightly. mina had to go because she couldn't bear to be by his side when he died, because her father was dying. one of the first people she ever loved was dying.
kit was coming and going like a small breeze, ty at his side. ty said with a wistful expression how beautiful the speech he gave at their wedding was. kit remembered how jem loved and cared for him like no one else did. he wasn't able to say much. because the man who loved him and gave him a home was dying.
at last when they were alone, tessa and jem closed their eyes and whispered of their memories. they whispered about the first time they met, the time they first kissed, the time jem proposed to her. they spoke about their meetings on blackfriars bridge, and they spoke of james and lucie and cordelia and alastair and cecily and sophie and gideon and gabriel and those who they loved.
but most of all, they spoke of him. they spoke of his fear of ducks, of how he protected everyone around him with a certain fierceness, but most of all? they spoke of how much they loved him and how much he did too.
does, they remind each other. he still does. and they do too.
they spoke of how their life was better with him.
dawn was coming. jem's breathing had slowed, and tessa was there with him, begging him to take another breath, that he could do this.
i can't lose you too, she said, tears dripping down her face like a steady stream.
you won't, he replied, i will be here and with you forever tessa, and so will he.
do you see him?
i do. he is well.
wait for me. tell him i love him. i love you.
i will. i love you too.
tessa took his hand in hers and closed her eyes. she didn't need to look through some magical barrier to know that he was here.
jem closed his eyes, a ghost of a smile spreading across his face as he ceased to breathe.
"will? will, is that you?"

Clary: well-
Cordelia: and your mom concealed information from you about a newfound sibling to supposedly protect you?
Clary: okay wait-
Cordelia: and you are introduced to a place that is foreign to you but you have a dreadful feeling there is so much chaos to be ensued

Ok imma be honest, this chapter moved me to tears and not the sad sobbing but the more inspiring kind. This chapter means the world.
She had told them her dreams were about ducks – since there were the only equally horrible thing she could think of.
Uncle Magnus had given her an odd look then, as if he knew she was bullshitting them. But he hadn’t said anything.
DUCKS AREN'T THAT BAD! HAVE Y'ALL EVER BEEN CHASED BY A GOAT?? I WAS CONVINCED I WAS GONNA DIE
Lexi would be royally pissed if this turned out to be some stupid pointless dream.
YUP
Even though she was only 7 minutes older than Lexi, Selena always acted like she was 7 years older.
That's so cute though
People looked at her pastel-coloured aesthetic immediately assumed she was the soft and sweet Fairchild twin. People saw Selena in her red leather jacket and thigh high boots and assumed she was in the infamous troublesome Herondale twin.
SMH THE DAMN STEREOTYPES
Why Selena hadn’t killed her in her sleep yet, Lexi doesn’t know.
BYE THAT'S EVERY SIBLING RELATIONSHIP EVER
The meals at the Academy were to die for – quite literally. Last week two students from the warlock fraction had almost killed each other over a blueberry muffin.
Oh how times change...they will never know the dreaded soup
NO ANJALI HAS BEEN GONE FOR OVER A YEAR???
IS JAIME OK?? PLEASE BE OK! HE CAN LIVE WITH TREATMENT SO I REALLY HOPE HE'S OK
Selena’s was Idris of course. She was kind of obsessed with it.
Max loved the shadow markets. Lexi thought they were very cool too.
Rafael loved his father’s office – which was weird. There was nothing to do in that room other than ponder about shadow world problems. Besides, the place still weirdly smelled like the tangerine perfume Anjali wore, even though the girl had left New York almost a year ago.
David loved the New York Institute – especially the library.
Gigi of course loved the dining halls.
Dining halls, kitchens, food trucks, vending machines - if a place had food with it, Gigi loved it.
It's so amazing how they all have their favorite places...(same David same)
“You’re supposed to pour the syrup on the pancakes not into your mouth,” Lexi chuckled as she sat down next to her.
“It ends up in my mouth anyway,” Gigi shrugged.
True enough.
AWW ROMAN MAKING GIGI PLAYLISTS!!
Someone make me a playlist.
“His parents fell in love in Rome when they were in Rome,” Gigi pointed out even though Lexi already knew. “I think it’s actually romantic.”
I had forgotten that-
Roman was nice. But not nice enough for Georgia. Lexi didn’t think there was anyone good enough for her parabatai – who was the most perfect person in the world.
Me @ anyone who tries to make a move at my best friend.
AWW GEORGIA LIKES HIM TOO!!
When's the wedding?
(you're telling me you didn't believe you were gonna marry your childhood crush? Liar)
“I like being his friend,” Georgia said. “I like spending time with him and all of that. But I don’t know if I like him…in that way. I feel like I need more time.”
Demiromantic??? YES GIVE US THE REP
Lexi sometimes thought life would be so much simpler if the world was full of women and everyone was a lesbian.
Ikr?? Life would be so much easier.
Lexi says Roman is too-nice-sus
Well well well
The kind of love that cheated death.
The kind of love that sustained memory spells put by princes of hell.
The kind of love that changed the world.
Trust me all of our standards are very high
Lexi successfully survived the class without falling asleep.
Me during English.
Ok who's the blond?
Lexi I thought we weren't gonna fall this soon-
Oh the girl's straight...sigh we've all been there.
which meant they had to hold hands. Kinda.
Lexi was a little scared of that.
Me.
Goddamnit, Alexandra. Get your gay together!
THAT'S SO RELATABLE LIKE?? YES
OH MY GOD IT'S EMMA AND JULIAN'S DAUGHTER GEIDIDHDOHDJSKSJSKGXJDHSODHKDGDDGDJHDJDGDJDGJDHD
Lexi knew Olivia liked boys. She hadn’t dated anyone officially of course. All the boys were kind of terrified of her father.
She could be bi or pan or omni. WE GOTTA HAVE HOPE
vegetable loaf... David I'm so sorry you had to go through this.
Lexi then decided not to do any of her homework over the weekend because she was not coming back to the academy. She was not going to survive the sleepover and whatever else Olivia had in mind.
Bestie...why is this me when I make eye contact with my crush.
“Good stuff?” Max snorted. “Rafe literally ran away from home cause shit got too intense.”
“I didn’t run away!” Rafael rolled his eyes. “Stop telling people that!”
“But you have rumours and shadowhunters getting thrown into silent city and cohort drama and all that exciting stuff!” Liv pointed out.
I-
Liv-
True though.
“Wasn’t there a serial killer when your parents were young?” David asked.
“And didn’t your uncle do necromancy?” Max said biting into a chicken wing.
True and true
“Sorry, Chouchou!” Lexi winced. “I, uh, sensed a mosquitoe on your leg.”
“Girl, your angel powers are weird as fuck,” Max laughed.
MAX LANGUAGE
“I don’t know,” the girl shrugged and threw her a wink. “I wouldn’t put anything past Lexi.”
Lexi looked at Gigi. She was one more compliment away from screaming.
But Gigi of course knew her struggle and therefore quickly stuffed a bread roll into Lexi’s mouth.
I need someone to stuff bread into my mouth when things get like this
There were rumours about David – and how Daddy had an affair. Lexi was yet to find those asshats and shove a witch light down their throats.
When you find them lemme know too.
“Or maybe it’s because you don’t need rumours be interesting,” David pointed out.
Max turned around, looking surprised at that. His cheeks turned purple. Lexi didn’t know why he was surprised. David only ever spoke fondly of Max.
JUST GET TOGETHER ALREADY OH MY GOD
“Oh. Oh! I did hear something a long time ago!” Gigi said suddenly. “Olly, is it true you were conceived at the beach?”
“Georgia, you can’t just ask people where they were conceived!” David sounded horrified.
That is very much possible.
“I heard you were conceived in hell?”
“Oh my god,” Selena looked horrified. “That’s not true! It must have been about Max!”
“Y’all I am adopted!” Max was shaking with laughter and then stopped. “Although our dads could have definitely had sex in hell. I wouldn’t put it past them.”
Oh yes. Both clace and malec.
Then they had of course continued to discuss that cursed topic until Rafael had threatened to tell the Consul about it.
LMAO
Lexi turned around and saw Liv waiting for her. Nope. She wasn’t going to talk a walk – a fucking stroll! – with Olivia all on her own.
“You are coming back to the institute with me or I will un-parabatai you.”
You know there being an un-parabatai ceremony would solve a lot of shit
What if their hands accidentally grazed or something? That shit was lethal.
RIGHT????
She is just trying to be nice. That’s what friends do. They are nice. And they give each other pretty dresses and say they would like to see them in it.
Honey that's gay.
EVERYONE ASKING HER OUT IM DEAD
Selena: Ugh boys
Selena: When I win back Idris, we are leaving all the men behind.
Lexi: Except Magnus? Lol.
Selena: Obviously.
Is that even a question Lexi? Duh.
ALEC LIGHTWOOD THOUGHT SHE WAS STRAIGHT? THE SHAME!
OH MY GOD IM CACKLING
Not everyone can kiss their partner in the Accords Hall. Some people didn’t have access to the Accords Hall.
And most important, some people didn’t have partners!
We're getting a lexi and Alec talk someone hold me
“I’m going to tell you something,” Uncle Alec said. “It might sound simple. It might sound ridiculous. But it’s the truth. So, you must believe me. Can you do that?”
Lexi gave him a small nod.
“It doesn’t matter what other people think,” Uncle Alec said. “Not when it comes to your future. Not when it comes to your identity. They don’t get to have a say in who you are and why you are the way you are.”
Lexi bit her lip.
“Alexandra, people will always tell what to do. But you shouldn’t let them. Never let anyone tell you what to do with your heart or your body. Neither belongs them. It only belongs to you.”
THIS RIGHT HERE MADE ME START CRYING BECAUSE DAMN YES!
“Yep,” she groaned and then hesitated for a moment. “Uncle Alec…Can I ask you something stupid?”
“Can I say no?”
“No.”
“Then go ahead.”
I love her so much
“I feel…I feel it’s something we have to bear, Alexandra. The fear of rejection. It’s something we have to accept as an inevitable part of our lives. Because no matter how much love we have around us, we will always be afraid of people not loving us – simply because of who we are.”
Yeah...
“Besides, they named you after me,” he pointed out. “I don’t know what else they expected.”
EXACTLY! Did they really expect a straight child after naming them after Alec?
“I do like shouting,” Lexi wondered out loud. “That’s good advice.”
“I didn’t mean it literally!” Uncle Alec looked alarmed.
“No, it makes total sense!” Lexi grinned. “Some of these people can be tone deaf. Gotta shout it out. Loud and clear. Awesome advice! Thanks, Uncle Alec!”
DO IT
“Hey, Lexi. I was wonderin-”
“MOVE, I’M GAY!” she yelled as she shoved him aside and kept on running.
ABSOLUTELY ICONIC
“I prefer she/her,” Lexi answered. "But sometimes I prefer she/they. But you can use she/her because some of y'all already shit at grammar."
That's exactly what I tell people when they ask for my pronouns. Istg people are shit at grammar.
alright girl im here to give you a lecture on how someone's dressing doesn't describe their sexuality
OH MY MY GOD THERE WAS A GENDER AND SEXUALITY CLASS IN THE ACADEMY ARE THEY RECRUITING???
One of the boys who had complimented cleared his throat. “So, uh, you don’t like boys?”
“That’s literally what I said,” Lexi rolled her eyes. “I’m gay. I’m very gay. I’m gayer than the Consul. Okay fine, that’s not true. No one gayer than the Consul. But I’m still pretty gay.”
Does the boy have hearing problems?
ALSO YES NO ONE'S GAYER THAN THE CONSUL
“Sexual orientation and gender expression are two different things,” she explained now, remember what Uncle Magnus had taught them. “Sexual orientation refers to who I am sexually and romantically attracted to. Gender expression is how I want to express my gender identity. Those two are not connected. Just because a woman wears feminine clothes it doesn’t mean she is straight. Just because a man embraces femininity, it doesn’t make him gay either. Does that make sense?”
“Ohhh,” the girl nodded. “Yes, it does. Thank you!”
“What I wear does not reflect who I like. It reflects who I am and what I like to wear,” Lexi explained. “And regardless of my sexuality, I like pretty things.”
Exactly.
“This doesn’t change anything. I hope you know that,” he told her. “I mean I have to change the pronouns in my shovel talk. But that’s not a big deal.”
Awwww
Also – my good friend Raziel told me that homophobia is a sin.”
“You mean homosexuality is a sin?” an older man asked.
“No, homophobia is a sin,” Lexi repeated. “That’s what Raziel said.”
“But that’s not-”
Someone cleared their throat. When he spoke, it was in the Consul Voice.
“Are you saying know better than Raziel?” the Consul asked.
Listen to Raziel you dumb shit
“Sure. Let me just call the Lesbian Alliance,” Lexi rolled her eyes.
Ugh I wish
OH NO NO NO NOT THE FAKE DATING. JUST CONFESS AND DATE FOR REAL
“Alexandra, I have a fucking undercut and I have pink highlights and I cuff my jeans and I literally walk around with a sword and I can quote Lady Gaga to perfection! Why would you ever think I was straight??”
Lexi your gaydar is broken bestie.
Don't do this omg this is gonna be a mess
Gigi: THIS IS A BAD IDEA. ABORT! ABORT!
Lexi: Relaaaax. It’s going to be fine!
Gigi: I’ve read enough fanfiction to know the fake dating trope never ends well!
Lexi: I’ve told you to include the ‘angst with happy ending’ tag!
LMAO
Also Gigi which fanfiction do you read?
Jace omg...
That's so him though.
“How about my peeps? It sounds very hip.”
“It does not,” Lexi replied. “Please don’t refer to us as your peeps under any circumstance."
IM SCREAMING ASHSKHSIDBSHSHDH
Her father chuckled at that. “Sweetheart, you’re a Herondale. Being problematic is what we do.”
EXACTLY
Daddy opened the notebook again. “I need names.”
Grabs flamethrower names
“Besides, the Lightwoods and Blackthorns have been hogging the gay genes for too long. Now it’s our turn. I say you gay it up.”
“Gay it up?” Lexi laughed.
“Yeah,” he grinned. “Go for the highest possible level of gay.”
DO IT
He blinked for a second and then it hit him. “OH MY GOD YES! DOES EMMA KNOW??”
Lexi laughed. Yeah, he can never find out it was a fake dating situation.
Hopefully he won't have to because it won't be fake :D
“To love is a privilege and to be loved is a blessing.”
THE GROWTH OH MY GOD
This chapter literally means so much to me. I don't even know what to say. I hope I too can one day have the courage to shout it in front of everyone and not be scared. See ya on Tuesday!
It means so much to me that this chapter meant a lot to you. I hope you find all the courage, strength and support you need. You are amazing.
And here. I made you a playlist.

Things Jem has said or thought about Jace
(all of it belongs to CC and is from City of Heavenly Fire and Ghosts of the Shadow Market)
"Herondales." Zachariah's voice was a breath, half laughter, half pain. "I had almost forgotten. No other family does so much for love, or feels so much guilt for it. Don't carry the weight of the world on you, Jace. It's too heavy for even a Herondale to to bear." - Jem
"Jace Herondale, once more a Herondale is the bringer of my deliverance. I should have anticipated." - Jem
When the boy landed on deck, feet spread wide and staff twirling between his hands, he was laughing. It was not a child's sweet laugh, but a wild exuberant that rang out stronger than the sea or sky or silent voices. He sounded young, and defiant, and joyful, and a little mad. Brother Zachariah had thought earlier in the night that he did not hear laughter often. It had been an achingly long time since he had heard a laugh like that. - Jem
"if you pretend to feel nothing, the pretence may become true. said Jem. "That would be a pity." - Jem
"Never fear, said Brother Zachariah. "I am fighting with you."
Zachariah could see the boy's thin back. He seemed braced to be a disappointment.
Robert said, "I am sure you're a good boy." Jonathan did not look sure. Robert saved himself the awkwardness by conspicuously examining the controls. The boy left the bridge, graceful despite the lurch of the boat and how weary he must be. Zachariah was startled when young Jonathan advanced across the deck to where Zachariah himself sat.
Jonathan carried Brother Zachariah's staff back to him, balanced flat as a tightrope along his palms, and laid the staff with a respectful bow on Zachariah's knees. The boy moved with military discipline unusual in one so young, even among Shadowhunters. Brother Zachariah had not known Michael Wayland, but guessed he must have been a harsh man.
"Brother Enoch?" the boy guessed.
No, said Brother Zachariah. He knew Enoch's memories as his own. Enoch had given the boy his first mark, though his own memories were gray with lack of interest. Brother Zachariah briefly wished he could have been the Silent Brother who oversaw the rite of passage for this child.
"No," the boy repeated slowly. "I should've known. You moved differently. I just thought it might be, since you rolled your staff to me."
He bowed his head. It struck Zachariah as a sorry thing, that the child would not have expected even the smallest mercy from a stranger
"Thank you for letting me use it," Jonathan added.
I am glad it was useful, returned Brother Zachariah.
The boy's glance up at his face was shocking, the flare of twin suns in what was still almost night. They were not the eyes of a soldier but a warrior. Brother Zachariah had known both, and he knew the difference. The boy took a step back, nervous and agile, but stopped with his chin high. Apparently he had a question. Zachariah was not expecting the one he asked. "What do the initials mean? On your staff. Do all Silent Brothers have them?"
They looked together at the staff. The letters were worn by time and Zachariah's own flesh, but they had been struck deep into the wood in the precise places where Zachariah would put his hands on them when he fought. So, in a way, they would always be fighting together. The letters were W and H.
No, said Brother Zachariah. I am the only one. I carved them into the staff on my first night in the City of Bones.
"Were they your initials?" the boy asked, his voice low and a little timid. "Back when you were a Shadowhunter, like me?"
Brother Zachariah still consider himself a Shadowhunter, but Jonathan clearly did not mean any offense.
No, said Jem, because he was always James Carstairs when he spoke of what was dearest to him. Not mine. My parabatai's. W and He. William Herondale. Will.
The boy looked struck yet wary at the same time. There was a certain guardedness about him, as if he was suspicious of whatever Jem might say before he even had the chance to say it.
"My says—said—a parabatai can be a great weakness."
Jonathan said the word "weakness" with horror. Jem wondered what a man who had drilled a boy to fight like that might have considered weakness. Jem did not choose to insult an orphan boy's dead father, so he arranged his thoughts carefully. This boy was so alone. He remembered how precious that new link could be, especially when you had no other. It could be the last bridge that connected you to a lost life. He remembered traveling across the sea, having lost his family, not knowing that he was going to his best friend.
I suppose they can be a weakness, he answered. It depends on who your parabatai is. I carved his initials because I always fought best with him.
Jonathan Wayland, the boy who fought like a warrior angel, looked intrigued.
"I think—my father was sorry he had a parabatai," he said. "Now I have to go live with the man my father was sorry about. I don't want to be weak, and I don't want to be sorry. I want to be the best."
If you pretend to feel nothing, pretense may become true, said Jem. That would be a pity.
His parabatai had tried to feel nothing, for a time. Except what he felt for Jem. It had almost destroyed Will. And every day, Jem pretended to feel something, to be kind, to fix what was broken, to remember names and voices almost forgotten, and that would become truth.
The boy frowned. "Why would it be a pity?"
We battle hardest when that which is dearer to us than our own lives is at stake, said Jem. A parabatai is a both a blade and shield. You belong together and to each other not because you are the same but because your different shapes fit together to be a greater whole, a greater warrior for a higher purpose. I always believed we were not merely at our best together but beyond the best either of us could be apart.
A slow smile broke across the boy's face, like sunrise bursting as a bright surprise upon the water.
"I'd like that," said Jonathan Wayland, adding quickly, " To be a great warrior."
He flung his head back in a sudden, hasty assumption if arrogance, as if he and Jem might have imagined he meant that would like to belong to someone.
Except Jonathan was a child, still trying to make a distant father proud even when death had made the distance between them impossible. Jem should be kind.
He thought of the boy's speed, his fearless strike with an unfamiliar weapon on a strange bloody night.
I'm sure you will be a great warrior, Jem said.
Jonathan Wayland ducked his shaggy golden head to hide the faint color in his cheeks.
Jonathan scuffed his shoe against the deck and peered up at Jem, and Jem realized he was trying to see his face beneath the hood. Jem drew the hood, and the shadows, close. Even though he had been rebuffed, Jonathan Wayland offered him a small smile.
Jem had not looked for any kindness from this hurt child. It made Jem think that Jonathan Wayland might grow to be more than a great warrior. Maybe Jonathan would have a parabatai one day, to teach him the kind of man he wanted to be.
This is the link stronger than any magic, Jem had told himself that night, knife in hand, cutting deep. This is the bond I chose. He made his mark. He had taken the name Zachariah, which meant "remember" remember him, Jem had willed himself. Remember them. Remember why. Remember the only answer to the only question. Do not forget. When he looked again, Jonathan Wayland was gone. He wished he could thank the child, for helping him remember.

So anyone who’s read the mortal instruments and the infernal devices knows the Herondales are a menace to society (but also super hot). Will had a fear of ducks which Jem loved messing with Will. Like one time he brought a duck home, ‘I just thought it was lonely. Just like my cat. I shall keep it safe.’ Will lost it after that and refused to leave his room until the thing was out of the institute. Tessa knew this as well and messed with Will too. When Jem and Tessa met the menace named Jace Lightwood-Herondale, they knew what they had to do. Jem first questioned into it, and quickly realized this fear of ducks was passed down. Tessa and Jem went to Clary and together the three of them bought a bunch of ducks to fill the institute. One day after being out for the day, Clary and Jace went home. Clary smiled to herself when they entered the building and saw a crap ton of ducks. Jace screamed and tried to run back out but Clary closed the door with an evil grin, ‘this is payback.’ ‘For what?!? This is just cruel! Clary don’t make me do this.’ He tried pushing Clary aside but was attacked by ducks. :) from then on he was always hesitant to enter buildings when Clary was with him.

Congratulations on 8.8k!! That's seriously so cool and you deserve every follower - you are so sweet 💗 I was wondering if you could do 📝 for Will, James and Lucie with the prompt “Do I make myself clear?” and I know we haven't been mutuals for a long time but maybe also 👀 - if not it's okay! Thank you and congrats again :-)
Hi! I know this comes too late (you sent this ask in August!) but I’m done with this prompt. I loved writing this because I love writing Will as a dad with young Lucie and James. I hope you like this 💜
Characters: Will Herondale, Lucie Herondale, James Herondale Rating: T Title:  A Walk In The Park
At 32 years old, Will Herondale could say he was satisfied of how his life had turned out. He was married to the person he loved. She wasn’t just his partner, but also his best friend. After they got married, Tessa had been worried that they wouldn’t be able to have children due to her demonic heritage. He had seen how her eyes followed the other children at the Institute.
“Wouldn’t you like a child, Will?” she asked one morning after breakfast. They had just been left alone after Will’s sister Cecily and their friend Charlotte had excused themselves because they had to take care of their children.
Will’s eyes widened. He tried to wear a neutral expression, and not betray any emotion. “I wouldn’t be against having children, of course,” he had said. “But I’m also happy like this.”
He had taken her hand in his. It was silent comfort. Tessa knew that Will was happy either way, and so was she. “So am I,” she had agreed, but there was a melancholic undertone in her voice.
Eventually, James came along.
He was unexpected. After years of trying and not succeeding, he was almost a miracle. A gift. Will had hugged Tessa and turned her body around the drawing room out of excitement, the day that they knew.
“I’m sorry, Tess,” he stopped after a few seconds. “I still haven’t realized that you,” he had looked above and shook his head in disbelief. “We are having a child.”
“Yes, we are,” she echoed, and they had both cried of joy afterwards. And not only then. Every time it was brought up around guests that Will and Tessa were having a child, he would tear up. No one said anything, because they knew that it might not have happened at all.
One year later, came Lucie.
Will thought that fate had been already too kind to them, by making James be born into this world. When Tessa found she expected Lucie, he thought that maybe they had done something nice to deserve another precious gift.
“I would be eternally grateful to whoever granted us with these two amazing children,” he told Tessa one night, while they were about to fall asleep.
She was reading a book, so she had to think a few seconds before realizing his words. “Will, cariad. There is no one to thank but ourselves.”
Will, understanding what she meant, had smirked. “Of course, Tess, I know. I was just saying…”
She chuckled, but her face contorted in pain a moment later, and she touched her already big stomach. “Ouch.”
“What’s wrong?”
“The baby just kicked,” she explained. “What…” she exclaimed, closing her eyes. “She wants to make her presence known. Here, touch.” Tessa had grabbed his hand, and put it over the spot where the baby had just not so nicely grazed her insides with their feet.
“I felt it!” Will had said excitedly, and they were happy.
Six years went by, and James and Lucie had grown. They were six and five now, and couldn’t be more cheerful and curious to discover the world. Especially Lucie, who seemed to like birds and insects a lot. James was more on the shy side. He had already learned how to read and was often alone with his head on a book. But that morning, their father had promised them that they would go to Regent’s Park to enjoy fresh air and be together. They’d also have a picnic on the grass. It would be just the three of them. Tessa, had told them that Cecily needed help with something and she offered to help, so she wouldn’t come. The kids rarely left the Institute these days because it had rained a lot in London, and they were always excited to go out whenever they could. They also loved spending time with their father, of course.
Will’s eyes were closed, but he was not asleep. He felt a little hand on his face before he heard the voice. “Papa, wake up!” said Lucie. “I told you that he forgot,” she lamented, but kept touching his face.
“He never forgets anything, Lucie. He’s going to wake up soon, I’m sure,” James told her. He seemed sure of it, maybe because it was the truth. Will never forgot any appointment he had, and he wouldn’t forget a date with his children either.
Will tried not to smile, but it was difficult. Lucie had started pinching his cheek, and he was about to move his cheek, because her hands were getting angry at his face.
“Papa!” Lucie almost shouted, but she was quieted by Tessa, who had sat down on the bed.
“Will, you better wake up,” she told him. “Or you’ll be late.”
He opened his eyes abruptly, and Lucie gasped. “Papa!” she said again.
And Will smiled.
One hour later, the trio left the Institute. Lucie held Will’s hand, while James held Lucie’s, since their father hand was holding a picnic basket in his other hand. They were talking about some thing their cousins had done while they walked towards the park, and he was grateful that his kids weren’t as chaotic as Cecily’s or Charlotte’s. When they finally approached their destination, Will stopped and looked at James and Lucie.
“Alright, Lucie. James. I’ve told you before we went out, but I want to tell you again,” he began, glancing at his children with seriousness. “We’re not going to the lake; do I make myself clear? That’s the only place that’s off limits.”
“Why, papa?” James asked innocently.
“Because there are ducks at the lake, James,” Lucie reminded him. “And you don’t like ducks either.”
James shrugged. “I guess ducks are okay.”
Will frowned, and Lucie continued. “James, are you taking the duck’s side?!”
He was amused for sure. He was comforted that Lucie had his back, but he wouldn’t say it out loud. The truth was that James had also disliked ducks for a while, until he had moved past from his fear. He didn’t know how he had managed to do it, but he was sure that he wouldn’t be able to forget it until the day he died. And not even then.
“Of course not!” James exclaimed, making a couple turn their heads towards them and frown.
They entered the park then, and roamed around until they were tired, and needed a break. A food break. Lucie and James arranged the blanked on the grass, and set up the things that their cook, Bridget, had prepared for them.
“She also made lemon tarts!” Lucie said with glee.
“We have to eat these other things first, Luce,” James chided her, and grabbed a sandwich.
Will grinned, then he also started eating his food. It had been a fantastic day. James and Lucie were enjoying the sun and the flowers and the trees at the park. They had avoided the lake with the ducks, of course, but he still felt like something was about to…
“Papa,” Lucie said abruptly. She was about to let her sandwich fall on the blanket. She was startled, nervous. He couldn’t say. James stopped eating as well, and looked at his sister.
“What’s wrong, Luce? Do you need water? Do you need the bathroom?”
Lucie shook her head. She was glancing at her father’s side, and he feared to ask what she was seeing. “Papa, behind you…”
At that point, James also directed his stare to Will’s shoulder. His eyes widened, and he opened his mouth in surprise, or worry. “Papa, beware!” he said.
Will turned his head slowly. There was a duck by his side, and he was about to bite his sandwich. It was too sudden, and Will gasped, rose to his feet, and retreated a few feet from the blanket and his kids. James and Lucie didn’t say anything as they stared at the duck who had joined their feet, and was finishing Will’s food. Luckily there wasn’t anyone around.
Will thought he was silly. Why did those ducks cause him so much distress? It was just an aquatic bird! They didn’t even fly. He could just… the duck eventually left. Thankfully.
“Papa, the duck has eaten everything,” Lucie said.
“I guess he likes tuna,” James agreed. “But, papa. Are you… okay?”
Was he? “By the angel, Will Herondale. Get a grip,” he whispered to himself and managed a smile. “Yes, papa is completely fine,” he said as he walked back to his children. “But I see my food is not.” The duck had left a few crumbs on the otherwise pristine blanket.
“Do you want to go back, papa?” Lucie asked.
“Because of the duck? No, Lucie. I promised you we’d spend the entire day here, and a duck won’t stop us.”
“Not even a family of ducks?” James wondered next, looking on the right.
“What?”
But he was kidding, and the three of them laughed. He didn’t tell his kids, but he was scared for a moment that James wasn’t joking.
Will really kept his promise. At six pm, the kids were back at the Institute, happier than they had been once the day had started. Luckily for them, no duck had bothered their lunch or their walks around the park afterwards. And of this, their father was really grateful.
“Did you have fun?” Tessa asked once they were eating their dinner.
“Yes!” both James and Lucie said, and their parents could see the joy in their eyes.
“My favorite part was when dad was attacked by a duck,” James said, making Will almost choke on his food.
Tessa gazed at him, and he blinked. He was also grinning. “Oh, really? Your father had a close encounter with a duck?”
“Yes!” James confirmed. “He was eating his sandwich and the duck came behind him.”
“But we saved him,” Lucie added. “Before the duck would scare papa.”
“Ah, nice,” Tessa nodded. She looked at her husband again, but he was silently eating his food.
“I’m here because of James and Lucie,” Will said after he finished. He glanced at his daughter and his son. They had already forgotten about the conversation, focused on their plates. Tessa took his hand under the table, and she smiled at him, and murmured an I love you. He murmured it back.
At 32, Will was satisfied of how his life had turned out. This was a fact. What was he most grateful for? His family, no doubt. And not even an hungry duck could change his mind.

I like to imagine— one day, after years, Tessa is finally able to convince Will to join her for a picnic in Hyde Park. They pack sandwiches and lemonade. (Tessa secretly packs some bread crumbs too.)
On reaching there, Will is sure to not go near the ducks at all. But Tessa wants to feed them and he obviously can‘t let her go near those “blood-thirsty little beasts” alone. When he follows her, he sees an unusual sight Of his wife standing near the small stream, feeding those ducks, she looks happy and content and so Will briefly let goes of his fear and joins her. That doesn’t mean Will Herondale likes ducks. He liked feeding them with Tessa and watching the way her face lit up. To this date, Jem and Tessa sometimes make their way to the stream and watch Will Herondale’s blood thirsty little beasts in memory of a blue eyed boy who lit up with their worlds with his smile.

I need to hear more about Mark Blackthorn having ADHD please indulge me this concept sounds so interesting
Ok I have photographic proof from Lady Midnight because I didn't have the time or the patience to look through all of them and it's only the first few chapters, but I managed to get a whole bunch from just that. However if I posted the pictures then I would need to transcribe everything on the pages. So I'm taking the quotes directly from the books and you're just gonna have to take my word for it. Ok?
Some of the traits of ADHD just to name a few are Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria, impulsivity/impatience, irritability/being prone to aggression, risk taking behavior, stubbornness and also others but they aren't relevant right now.
RSD is defined as being very sensitive to what people think, say and feel about you, always assuming the worst. Those of us who suffer from RSD constantly think that everyone we love is going to leave us or that they secretly hate us. It creates insecurity and low self esteem and feeling like a failure when you don't live up to other people's expectations. Also very explosive anger when you think you're being rejected.
Evidence of RSD:
- "You don't hate me?" Mark said, lying in Kieran's arms somewhere in a high Alpine meadow. His unkempt blond hair brushed against Kieran's shoulder as he turned his head. "For being nephilim?"
- "I don't know where I belong, he said. "But if you let me, I will try to belong here."
- Mark glanced at his brother, and then the others clearly worried. "Was that helpful?" he said. Was it a thing I should not have said?"
RSD and irritability/being prone to aggression:
- "Speech and petitions," Mark spat. "Might as well do nothing. I knew- I knew they had not chosen to come for me. I knew they had abandoned me to the wild hunt." He swallowed painfully. "I thought it was because they feared Gwyn and the vengeance if the hunt. Not because they hated and despised me."
- "You won't fight for me either," Mark said. "That much is clear." He glanced around the room. "I have come back to a world where I am not wanted it seems."
Evidence of Impulsivity/impatience and irritability/being prone to anger and stubbornness:
- "No," Mark interrupted, his voice rising with fear. "You will tell me now. Where is my full blood sister, the daughter of Lady Nerissa? Where is Helen?"
- Something flashed in Mark's eyes. "If you won't go without him, we will not go at all." He said. "You cannot force me to give up the information."
Evidence of impulsivity, risk taking behavior and impatience:
- "I'll show you. Come with me to look for the place. Why wait? The investigation is urgent isn't it? We must find the killer."
- He stepped off the roof. "Climb down with me," he said and now there was an edge if mockery in his voice. This entire page is just peak ADHD. Like climbing down the side of a building? Peak ADHD!!!!
- "Not yet," Emma said as Mark ducked into the cave. "Mark!" She called. "Mark, don't-Mark!"
- Mark moved towards the circle. "Don't-" Emma lowered her phone. "Go in there," she sighed.
This is also evidence of an inability to listen to instructions which is also an ADHD thing.
And this final scene between Ty and Mark screams ADHD/autism solidarity. It's also evidence of irritability and stubbornness.
- "My turn," said Mark. Diana turned towards him in surprise. He was already stalking towards the training dummy. He strode directly up to it, his boots scuffing the ash and salt on the ground. "Mark," Diana said. "You're not supposed to-." He caught hold of the dummy and yanked it toward himself, ripping the stuffed head from it's body.
- She remembered what Ty had said about his brother in the library. It's not his fault if he doesn't understand everything, or if things are too much for him. It's not his fault. "Now we both have hurt hands," Mark said.
I cried so much reading that scene for the first time. I cry everytime I read it. I'm crying while typing this up. Because it's relatable. It's me and my stepsister who has ADHD. Me and my dad who is also autistic. Me and Alex. Me and Lauryn. Me and all of my friends and mutuals who have ADHD or autism.
Now we both have hurt hands is like a metaphor for our solidarity. It's a way to say, "I've got you. Even if no one else does."
Talking about Stars to Burn in perticular:
Ok so kissing Kieran and running away immediately afterwards is like PEAK RSD!! It's the Kit Herondale speed run! 😂😂
But seriously. It's also very impulsive too.
He's also hella insecure and self deprecating. People with ADHD (in my experience) tend to have a low opinion of themselves. I think this ties into emotional dysregulation. Also depression seems to often be comorbid with ADHD. He refuses to believe that Kieran loves him back because it just seems impossible to him. He does this with Cristina in TDA too.
Not only does Mark run away but he ends up running over a bunch of cliffs that are very slippery from the rain. He only realizes that this is dangerous and not a good idea after some time passes. This is classic little sense of the danger that you are in and impulsive decision making.
So yeah that's my arguement. Very lack luster Ik. But still somewhat convincing no?
