story base idea tag

Jumping on an open tag by @tc-doherty to share the original base ideas for my WIPs!! (I'll get back to you someday, I promise.)

All the Queen's Horses: Started with me coming up with Fallon's character, and then deciding that I wanted to write a romance-focused story that would actually appeal to me.

Call of Shadows: Came to me one weekend while at my family's cottage. I don't remember the exact point of inspiration, but I've had a long-standing love of thief characters and also of "dark" or shadow magic, so that probably was the starting point.

High Fantasy WIP: Really just me thinking "I want to write the dnd-inspired fantasy novel of my dreams". I introduced its vibes as "Six of Crows meets D&D", and that is the eventual goal, even though the story doesn't even really have much of a plot or characters yet. The Narrator specifically was inspired by the Bartimaeus Trilogy and the Nevernight Chronicles.

Runaway Prince WIP: No idea where it came from, but the base idea was just "prince runs away, followed by his incredibly devoted bodyguard and accidentally ends up on a pirate ship". Looking back on it, the vibes for the Prince/Bodyguard relationship was probably indirectly inspired by Locke and Jean from The Lies of Locke Lamora.

Political Fantasy WIP: Also don't know where this one came from, tbh. But political scheming with a side of romance is the goal! (I think I just really wanted to write scheming, hahaha.)

Supernatural Roadtrip WIP: I was going back through the mess of my computer's hard drive and came across these picrews, and things spiraled from there.

Warforged WIP: A dnd character concept that I will probably never get to write. Weirdly has pretty strong Murderbot Diaries vibes for having originated before I even knew what Murderbot was.

Divinity WIP: Me finishing Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and thinking about how fucked it is that my character is basically an immortal angel now, when all her (extremely short-lived, even for a mortal) partner wanted was to live a normal life. (Also the game's secret ending where your character can essentially become a god.)

is your character an indoor or outdoor person?  Outdoors, definitely. He was kept indoors most of his life so he likes being outdoors when he can be. I think he would like hiking, but nothing very strenuous or hard, something more laid back and leisurely.

a memory that still makes your OC angry? He's not a very angry person, but one instance in particular is definitely anytime he was trying to keep things tidy or do something he was asked to do and someone else messes it up on purpose, which happens often. He’s a… bit picked on where he grew up :(

how does your OC handle death of someone they know? Hmm what an interesting question you chose about him specifically… He would not handle it very well. Mostly self blaming tbh. He would think it’s his fault, he should have done something about it (even if it was completely out of his control), he’s a curse, etc.

you brought your partner a flower bouquet. it isn’t something they often receive, and you felt a desire to change that. being a solemn, thoughtful person after thanking you they said;

“yes… it is sad that I’ll have to watch them die.” “they started dying the moment they were picked. kind of like humans, from the age of 25 their bodies officially begin to die.” upon hearing your words they look back at you, sharing a knowing look. “that is too short. I…” they clench their jaw for a moment. “humans have too short of a life span. we- I will find a way” soft, whispered words flowing between you two like a breeze on an early spring morning.

depending on the context behind their words, that perhaps brought you joy, that your loved one would go above and beyond to have as much time as possible with you. or it filled you with fear, knowing their history with such ways of life manipulation.

“no matter how much time we have, we will be alright. I cherish every moment I get with you. and once I’m gone-“

“please don’t say that.” their voice fell to a broken whisper. noticing the change in their body language, you moved closer, cupping their face, and matching their quiet tone you said, “let’s stay in the present. I’m right here, living and breathing. focus on me, on my heart,” you take their hand and place their palm on your chest. “on how it beats for you. for us.”

Ok, so who do I have to bribe on ACGAS to put Siegfried in this corduroy suit, so I can be the laziest cosplayer ever and just grab what's in my closet. 😅

(You all know I will be deranged about something, nonetheless. Am thinking about needle felting Volonel, Siegfried's pet rat.)

Suit by Cathcart Heritage (from where I'll order the full 3-piece tweed suit), will post more about the fit soon, as I'm wearing this to be twee at a thing in 2 weeks. Shirt is from Darcy Clothing. Vest and tie are not vintage, but work fine for this look. Pipe is from my stash back when I used to indulge.
