15. hello! i have yet another hyper-specific itmf request, so no worries if nobody has any recs lol. i'm looking for any fics that involve a character having to relearn how to communicate with others. like, (re)learning how to speak mandarin or how to act "normal." recovery fics also might count? i've recently realized this is a type of fic i really like for some reason so i'm looking for more! any setting is fine :)

this is weird enough that i want to explain it just to be clearer, so,,,, some examples in fics i've read are: zombie wei wuxian, whose mental faculties are only just coming online after being braindead (in A Corpse Called By Name); and wei wuxian being displaced in time, forced to learn modern mandarin instead of the ancient language he speaks (in The Shade of Old Trees). i know this next one isn't a mdzs fic, but another example would be xie lian in A Long And Slow Recovery, in which he just got out of the coffin and is struggling to act human and recover fully.

Aflame (Crosshunt) – Hunter and Crosshair might be together now after Crosshair’s rescue post Outpost, but they haven’t really addressed, much less dealt with, everything they did to each other. They can only ignore it for so long. Last part of the Aloft series.

Breathless (Hunter/Tech) – Post-Bracca aftermath where Hunter and Tech explore choking as a way of coping with what happened there with Wrecker. Background polybatch.

Lead Me Unto Redemption (Crosshunt to Polybatch) – Hunter’s chip was activated by the Empire after his capture, and even if he and Crosshair are with the Batch again, they need to get it out before Hunter’s Imperial loyalties kick in. And then they need to deal with getting him (and mainly Crosshair) back. Last part of the Lead Me series.

Mirror Image (Crosshunt to Crosshair/Hunter/Crosshair/Hunter) – Post-S3 Crosshair and Hunter end up in the past before S1. Their mission is to save their family. Hunter’s mission. Crosshair’s mission involves making their younger selves hook up.

If only he could take the helmet off, just for a second. »Dank farrik,« he cursed under his breath.

For Marcus, we only have bullet points rn, a little convo between him and reader:

green: taking this as an excuse to yap about my current challengers wip! its set in the era when art and tashi were at stanford, but with two key differences: 1) tashi doesnt get injured, and 2) art and patrick hook up after tashi leaves their hotel room and they kind of just... never stop. its very fun because i get to write about them being extreeeemely messy but in a more "young and stupid" way and a less "angry and toxic" way, hahah. its also art pov, which is fun!! the only art pov ive written in the past is pretty short, and also i feel like college art has his own sort of vibe to him that's more outwardly expressive, so i'm having fun! the idea was sparked purely because i love reading about them in college and there's not enough college-era fic. be the change you want to see, etcetera

orange: here is a snippet:

She nods, the sweet weight of her approval settling into his skin. “It shows.” She speaks through a leaf of lettuce in her mouth, which for some reason leaves Art charmed, same as when Patrick does it. That observation feels strangely uncomfortable, so he shoves it aside and locks it up alongside the rest of his uncomfortable Patrick feelings. “It’s good for your game to get away from him, huh?” she adds. Art blinks, taken aback. “What? From who?”  Tashi tilts her head at him, knowing. “Art,” she says. “Come on.”  That’s fair, maybe. Who else would she be talking about? He shakes his head, though. “What do you mean?” It comes out too defensive, probably, so he tries to save his tone. “I mean, he’s your boyfriend.” Not better, Art.  The look she gives him at the emphasis on the word your is heavy. “Sure,” she says. “And he’s great. But you’ve been letting him walk all over you. Your tennis is better when you can focus.”  “I don’t let him walk all over me,” he argues, even though he’s never quite been sure if that’s true. Is it really letting Patrick walk all over him if Art usually likes the startling strength of Patrick’s decisions? Tashi forks more salad into her mouth. “You do.” She raises her eyebrows. “He says, Oh, Art, let’s skip our conditioning and smoke on the roof! And you follow like a loyal little puppy looking for a pat on the head.”  Jesus. Art just stares at her, feeling a little like she’d just kicked him in the ribs. “I don’t —”  “Art.” She puts her fork down, salad finished. “All I’m telling you is that it’s good for you to stretch your wings a little bit. You’re a technical player. Be a little selfish, sometimes.” She makes oddly heavy eye-contact when she says that last sentence, although Art’s emotions are too haywire to bother trying to parse it.  “I feel like I’m selfish all the time,” he says, finally, avoiding the weight of her eyes. And it’s true: every time he pulls Patrick in against him, every time he treats Tashi to lunch and doesn’t mention it to Patrick, he’s being fucking selfish.  Tashi stands up, looking down at him imperiously. “I don’t know about that,” she says. 

red: oh boy. this one relies pretty heavily on a significant miscommunication, which is something i'm not the greatest at. some of them (patrick) think that they're all on the same page. some of them (art) are not even in the same book. i'm especially having trouble balancing THREE angles of a miscommunication for an extended period of time, so i'm a little stuck on the story as a whole. also, this is just a me-problem, but i always write out of order, so i've ended up with quite a few scenes and conversations that i think are really working well and just... kind of no real concrete plan to get me from one scene to the next. but!! like i said, this is common for me, and i usually find my way there somehow HAHA. im sure it'll all work out in the end

The Imperial Court - the au I created a system of 63 pronouns for, and the Emperor attempts to convince thejs eldest child to consider becoming heir, while in the town a family organizes a play, and a farmer debates starting a feud with a small mining company.

Animal Husbandry- Shay is not cursed- Halim is cursed, yes, wrapped in snake skin before he was born, and Trey is cursed, yes, molded into a beast by a furious fairy, and Deryn is doubly cursed both day and night. But Shay isn't cursed, because she still has to pay for law school, and she can't afford to be cursed too.

A Matchless Match- Masaki must keep the captured princes of Iida- his new husband and brother-in-law- alive, which is far easier said than done for a simple cupbearer

DCAU- Wherein Toshinori safely makes it to earth, and builds a mighty family indeed - even if it's mostly unintentionally

Mandoade and Jetisse- The Jedi Temple on Coruscant is investigating the strange circumstances surrounding young Initiate Izuku leaving, while Clan Ka'ra has their own travels evading the dar'jetii and training their youngest trouble magnets

DCU

Con Wayne- Superman died a year ago. Robin died six months ago. Superboy has spent his whole life trying replace better heroes, he isn't going to replace Bruce Wayne's son too. The offer of a name was nice, though- so he needs to make sure he makes the most of it. (Contrary to the synopsis and first chapter, this is a comedy)

Half- Custody- Jason Todd spends half his nights with an empty heart at Shelia's condo, and half his nights with an empty stomach at Willis and Catherine's apartment. But then his bad luck gets worse, and he figures he can claim at least half his own custody, since he's more than halfway to eighteen. (This is not a comedy but I am in awe of how many parents this kid can collect)

Little Birdie- oneshot how Dick became Robin in the Batman: The Audio Adventures universe

"the cursed sex" is this weird bizarre little Dedra character study I cooked up with a friend of mine after we spent a good few hours dissecting her in light of the bizarre faux gender neutrality the Empire cultivates. It was insane. The moment they said "she is a cis woman who has dysphoria because she wants power more than anything but to have power is to be an Imperial man" and my third eye BLASTED open and now I have a weird WIP about Dedra trying to have sex and failing utterly multiple times and it's all because her gender is fucked up. It's nebulously a prequel to 'Dacryphilia' but boyyyyy it needs to get up off the ground. Unfortunately I have no good excerpts (it's all just boring exposition-y stuff) but believe you me I'm still rotating it in my head.

"WHATEVERRRRR WHATEVER!!! WHATEVER!!! (fixations)" is the Bix POV followup to 'Dacryphilia' that I've definitely posted snippets of on here before. I just want Bix to put her fingers in her mouth. I don't have any reason for that other than my own id and unfortunately I don't have any good way to get Bix to that point other than sheer insanity, which is why this is still a WIP.

“Do you remember my name?” she asks her. Her voice is so tightly controlled that even she can hear it. She can feel her own blood rushing in her ears, roaring– then falling silent. “Is this an interrogation?” She smiles at her condescendingly, as if they were meeting over tea and Bix had just used the wrong spoon to stir it. “No,” she says shortly. “Do you remember my name?” She watches her weigh the pros and cons of lying. “Yes,” she says finally. “Bix Caleen. I interrogated you on Ferrix.” “Yes,” she says. “You did.” They stare at each other. Her eyes are as unearthly blue as she remembers. Like the sky in the middle of winter. "I have tinnitus now," Bix says suddenly. “Did you know that was a side effect of that machine?” Meero looks at her, silent. “It’s like you’re–” She taps her finger against her temple, harder than she meant to. “It’s like you’re in here, with me, wherever I go.” “Suppose I did a good job then, didn’t I?”

Eff it, have some Crosshair x Rampart dub-con this fine surgery Wednesday (posting for WIP Wednesday again because I need something to do while in the waiting room).

Rampart put his datapad down as Crosshair walked in.

Crosshair knew military protocol, so he knew he had to stand in front of Rampart’s desk quietly, and then do whatever he asked, but he wasn’t used to reporting to someone who wasn’t… Hunter. Even thinking of him rankled, heart aching a bit. Still, he stood in front of a man that wasn’t a clone, and he was pleased with taking his orders because then Crosshair could give those orders to others. It was a wonder to see his skills finally recognized. He was pleased to be an officer.

Rampart threaded his fingers together, eyeing him. Crosshair promptly shoved down any surfacing emotions, including the ones that whispered that Rampart was attractive. How could he not be? What with his perfect mix of sharp and soft features, his hair always neat and orderly and showing off his jawline. He liked that his eyes were brown. Crosshair was used to brown eyes. Other eye colors just distracted him, and in the wrong ways. It was also easy to assume that Admiral Rampart was muscular under his neat Imperial military uniform, and—

Stop, he told himself.

“CT-9904.”

And there it was, the low, buttery voice that got to him, and seemed to run hot through his blood some nights.

“Yes, Admiral?”

Rampart waved a hand. “At ease.”

Crosshair relaxed his stance.

“Do you have orders, sir?”

“Not exactly,” he said, getting up, and then walking around Crosshair, looking him over from head to toe. “Tell me, if I were to order you to, say… bend over for me, would you?”

“Sir?”

“Would you do it?”

“I suppose I would have to,” Crosshair responded, confused.

“And if I told you to get on your knees?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Good,” he said, putting a hand on Crosshair’s shoulder. Crosshair stiffened, but decided he would not turn and stare where he was being touched. “Good.”

That hand ran down to his shoulder blade and traced along his tunic to his other shoulder blade, and then down his back.

“Hmm… You’re lithe, which is interesting for a clone.”

Crosshair kept his face neutral with great difficulty.

“Yes… sir.”

He circled him, hand now running up his ribs, up his pectoral.

Crosshair let out a surprised cry as he was suddenly grabbed by the jaw. His body instantly moved to fight back.

Rampart eyed his raised arms, and then smiled when he lowered them.

Crosshair felt heat rush through him from being forced to look directly at Rampart like this. There was a light in Rampart’s eyes that almost excited him.

“You’re not usually my type,” Rampart said, “but I find your story intriguing. Once part of Clone Force 99, but doing the right thing and marking them all as traitors for not complying with Order 66, and now an officer. How does that power feel?”

Crosshair responded honestly, confused and perhaps the teeniest bit turned on, “Good.”

“It is good, isn’t it?”

“Yes, sir.”

Rampart relaxed his hold on his jaw and ran his fingers down his throat.

Crosshair almost gasped at the fire those trails sent through him, down to in between his legs.

A small bit of pressure made itself known there, and he hoped to all the stars and back that Rampart wouldn’t notice anything.

“Power is everything. It can so easily get you what you want.”

He glanced down after his words.

A blush rose on Crosshair’s cheeks, and as he was about to apologize Rampart asked, “So you enjoy being touched, do you?”

When Crosshair didn’t have an immediate answer forthcoming, Rampart drew in close and grabbed him right where his slightly exaggerated bulge was.

Crosshair inhaled sharply, and seized up. His hands shook where he had them clasped behind his back.

“Don’t worry, CT-9904, I can touch you all you like.”

His hand started to knead, and Crosshair looked away. Rampart grabbed his jaw again, making him look right at him.

“Look at me,” he ordered.

“Yes, sir.”

“Any past sexual experiences?” he asked.

“N-no, sir.”

“Well, then this is going to be more fun than I imagined.”

He released Crosshair’s growing erection, and drew in close.

Crosshair gasped when Rampart leaned his hips in, and pressed his own hardness against him.

Inside he wanted to break down and whimper, he wanted to rut against Rampart, but he held his trembling body in its position, but perhaps with his own hips canted away a little.

“Oh, the things you’ve never felt before,” Rampart mused. “I’m going to remedy that. And if you’re good, I could get you put on a special assignment. I’m sure that would look wonderful for Tarkin.”

Bear Castle Cycle 2.0

(actually there has been at least 4 different versions but let's not go there...)

I have officially un-shelved BCC after almost 2 years of hiatus. At the time I was very frustrated with it and felt like I didn't know anymore what I wanted and what was it's point. Now I have rediscovered a passion for it. With more distance to the story, I can more easily see the darlings that need to be killed and where I want to take this story. I will be rewriting some of the worldbuilding and restructuring the plot. Hopefully I get back to drafting it soon.

I drew some of the most central characters as I was thinking about the fashion. There's no big departures from my previous ideas, but I have much clearer image about the fashion in my mind now, so mission succeeded. I will use this as an opportunity to do a little re-intro to the characters. There is some changes to them, some older (which I never publicly introduced) some I have done since I un-shelved this WIP.

After six months on Dantooine, Vel takes Nemik to Coruscant to meet her cousin, the famed and admired Mon Mothma. 

It’s somewhere Skeen can’t go— his time in Imperial prisons mean his face is in the system and the moment he steps foot on Coruscant (or at least in the parts of Coruscant Vel is taking Nemik) he’ll be clocked in a way that’s too dangerous to risk. Being an ex-con these days is as good as being a criminal. It’s likely the imperial police force would scoop him up before he even had a chance to see the skyline, and then he’d never see the sky again.

He doesn’t like the idea of Nemik leaving Dantooine without him, or being left alone among the rebels himself, but there’s nothing he can do about it. Nemik is going– he’s determined to convince Mothma to take a firmer stance in the Senate, to be more public with her position. He’s determined to go, so he’s going. 

Nemik found a place among the rebels quickly, fitting in with the generals and civilian leaders who have come from all over the galaxy to create their infant rebel alliance. Nemik’s involvement on Aldhani carries caché, and these are people with power, real power. They listen to him. They’re sending him to meet Mothma, to push her, and Vel agreed to be the go-between. She likes Nemik anyway. She always has. 

Skeen has spent the six months lingering as a shadow at Nemik’s elbow. Standing behind him at meetings and planning sessions, rarely, if ever, contributing. They move in a tandem no one else understands. Sometimes Skeen will give his opinion, but only when directly asked, and largely only whispered into Nemik’s ear. Mostly he’s just there, listening and judging and grumbling. He’s there for Nemik, and everyone learns that very quickly. The rebellion is completely secondary to him. 

And now he’s going to be left among them while Nemik goes to meet the Senator. 

“Don’t worry,” Nemik says, adjusting Skeen’s collar for him. They’ve both largely kept to the rustic styles they’d worn on Aldhani, the rough hewn fabrics and functional, comfortable shapes. Now Skeen is dressed as he always is and Nemik is scrubbed and shined to look like he fits in with the cream of the upper crust. Vel provided a beautiful gold suit for him, with a high collar and flowing sleeves. He’s combed his hair carefully into whirling curls, precise and smooth. He looks like a little prince. “I’ll be back in no time.” 

“I should be going with you.” 

“You can’t. You wouldn’t be who you are if you could. And I love you as you are.” 

Skeen blushes and his eyes drop to the floor. 

Since settling on Dantooine, Nemik has gotten more open with his feelings, more expressive. He sees no reason to be shy. As Skeen once said, merely existing on Dantooine, in the heart of the rebellion’s operations, is a risk. Why not say what you feel, he thinks. Why not tell the people you love that you love them? They could be gone tomorrow. They both know that all too well.

“I’ll be back in four days,” Nemik says softly. He leans in to kiss Skeen on the cheek, going up on his toes, and feels Skeen smile. His hair has grown out some and is just starting to curl over his forehead and ears. He’d arrived on Aldhani fresh from some penal outpost, his hair buzzed down to nothing. He’d kept it that way for the duration of the mission. It was practical. It was in line with Imperial standards. It was a reminder of what he would go back to if they failed. To see him now, with his loose comfortable clothes and loose, curling hair, smiling and glowing and warm... It’s so soft it makes Nemik’s heart clench. It’s what life should be. 

It’s been months since they were apart long enough to sleep in separate beds. How strange it is to realize that. How tenuous and delicate their happiness has been. 

“Just… be careful. You look great, by the way.”

Nemik blushes.

He goes to Coruscant and Skeen stays on Dantooine, scanning the holonews. Just in case.

Im in the mood for a modern au fic where lwj and wwx are in a committed relationship but break up due to wwx over-committment to the wens or jiangs. It can be because they dont get to spend enough time together or its taking a toll on wwx and they fight about it. Whatever it is - i want wwx to be the one who realises things and has to make amends. Happy endings ofcourse.

I have seen many fics along this plot line BUT lwj is always the one apologizing and putting in the extra effort to be accommodating. It might just be me but i dont think thats fair. So pleeeeeeease recommend some fics where wwx puts in the work to fix things

KILF (Knits I'd Like To Fuck in) by ScarlettStorm (E, 168k, wangxian, modern, sex work, fiber arts, 2nd in series) is a long fic but it has a fight at the end of chapter 17 which is related to WWX being overcommitted (partly to JWY, I guess), and he has to be the one to try and make that right. They don’t break up, but it is a significant fight.

It becomes a routine after that.

Miya comes in on Friday nights, some exorbitantly beautiful woman on his arm, and is always quickly seated at a table the front of house staff had kept waiting for him. A standing reservation.

Moments after that, he rises to approach you at the bar.

He’ll offer you some minute detail about his date (though occasionally it is mercifully pertinent to their drink preferences--like a spirit they enjoy, or a flavour they're partial to) and you're left to come up with a cocktail that will appeal to them.

“So, what’s the story with this one?” he asks one evening, a few months into the little ritual that has settled between you, leaning over the counter as you prepare a drink for his lady of the week (his hints tonight being: daughter of a mogul, refined tastes, wants to get fucked up.)

“Comes from Monaco. They say the queen devised the recipe herself--all the bubble of champagne but twice the punch. Ladies weren’t allowed to drink hard liquor without it being seen as unbecoming, so this was a way they could get away with it and still have a good time.” You strain the slightly green tinted drink into the waiting champagne flutes below the shaker, watching as the frothy liquid pools in the basin of the polished glass.

“Nice.” the man nods approvingly as you top both drinks off with a healthy pour of champagne. The colour of the drink softens even further with the addition of the effervescent wine, and in the dim light of the bar, you can hardly even tell it isn't pure champagne.

You slide the drinks over to his waiting hands. “Two imperials for your prim and proper date.”

“She won’t be proper for long." Atsumu winks at you over the counter and you wrinkle your nose in distaste.

Your interactions with your newest regular customer have also shifted in the weeks since he’d started bothering you with his patronage--far less professional than the tone you’d tried (poorly) to maintain on his first few visits to the bar.

“Revolting,” you mutter.

“Thanks again! I’ll let you know how this one goes.”

“Just leave me a nice tip,” you say dismissively, wiping down the bartop with a clean cloth to prepare for the next drink orders waiting to be filled.

“I always do,” the man chirps, flashing you the same grin he always does--charming, self-assured, and utterly carefree--as he steps away towards his waiting date once more.

But he's right: for all of Atsumu’s shenanigans, he always leaves you a very generous tip at the end of the night. He always makes sure to stop by on his way out--one arm wrapped around the waist of whatever absurdly good looking woman he’s conned into going out with him that week--to tell you that they loved their drinks and to slide a neatly folded stack of bills towards you across the counter.

He's annoying, but he's single-handedly financing your habit of buying the really good ice cream on your weekly grocery trip, so you don't complain much.

You watch as Atsumu crosses the length of the room to return to his table--this week he's seated at one not far from the bar, affording you the perfect view of him sliding into his seat, handing one of the two drinks you’d just carefully prepared to the woman waiting for him.

She takes a sip and smiles, and you watched as Atsumu reaches out to brush a piece of hair behind her ear, his touch lingering just a moment longer than is strictly necessary.

You look away with a roll of your eyes, setting to work on the numerous orders that had come in since you’ve been busy preparing his drinks.

He really is completely shameless.
