i've already made posts about this so many times but every time the raven queen's ascension gets brought up and its talked about like she did it for immortality or purely for power it makes me go a little insane because the story of her being a follower of the god of death before her and taking his place specifically because he didn't respect death is one of the best things about her lore in my opinion. that one of the biggest differences between her and those who failed attempts at ascension is that she did because of faith and not to spite it.

thank you for understanding that any vaguely escapist vibes in deltarune are a setup for *deconstructing* that notion. it's the pins deltarune sets up in order to knock them right back down in the exact same way undertale set up the notion of an rpg enemy. this is an *inordinately* rare take and i thank you for being correct always

thank you! i do think there's a tendency to read escapism as a theme into the game's events when it really just isn't there. the only time it tangentially comes up is with queen, who is pretty blatantly mistaken about it — she assumes that noelle and the other lightners use computers like her to escape from and ignore their pain, but we're given evidence of quite the opposite — look at the fervent searches for dess in noelle's room or kris' worry over when asriel might be coming home. (of course, that use is still a part of the cruel cycle, but i'm sure most of my followers already know that.) and she assumes the same of why her world exists at all — that it must exist to provide an escape — but it's pretty clear that's not the situation at hand, either. just because deltarune takes place in a fantasy-genre setting (as many jprgs do) doesn't mean it's automatically an escapist fantasy.

Penelope is just a name at this point. We've heard it said before (still with extreme longing but that's a different ramble) but we as the audience of this musical have not met her yet. But you feel that excitement and utter joy at the thought of seeing her once more. Joy for this woman we don't know. Just how he says it tells you that this man would do anything ("horrendous horrifying actions" type of anything) to see her again and keep her safe/happy. You just sit there loving her just as much. With the first two lines, it's his men echoing his sentiment: Excitement to go home. But at Penelope, it's ALL those voices together with no echo. Penelope isn't waiting for them like their homeland is, they don't feel that way for her. But Odysseus' adoration is so profound that it needs multiple voices to even release it. Even the fact that the chorus is silent at "for me" is telling you that the fact that she's waiting is what's most important. PENELOPE IS HIS HOME. He's "just a man, She's everything" type of adoration!!!!!! He truly would trade the world to see his son and wife!!!

Even with how he says "Full Speed Ahead" after that kind of drifts off like he's already daydreaming about it and I'm just a fucking MESS. He daydreams in the Odyssey already and I love it so much.

I think the most fucked up thing is that when Crystal, in a fit of desperation, tries to appeal to Esther by offering her understanding, for just a fraction of a second, it works. She is visibly taken aback (tearing up, even) by someone reaching out to her, but it's way too late. There was never really a chance at redemption. But the spark of it was there for a second.

Hm like. The fact that the core companions in bg3, all of their arcs are about leaving a severely unbalanced and/or outright abusive relationship dynamic. They're all learning to be people again. How to be autonomous. Who they are beyond the person who controlled or manipulated them or set them on a very deterministic path.

And it's so interesting the variety we get? A goddess lover, a lich queen, a warlock patron, a goddess 'saviour', a vampire master, an archdevil.

Larian really wrote 6 fully fleshed out completely different companions and also said, actually everyone gets a recovery arc, everyone gets to learn freedom in their own way, the mechanism of learning to inhabit and be oneself ironically comes from being possessed by a mind flayer tadpole.
